Well, you've read the notes, the notes started a joke and you have to finish it, and now it is time for you to post until the herd of cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BEVY!
-
Page ONE?
-
Really? :)

George must have been waylaid by a burrito.

I had a little dinner salad - not the best ranch dressing, but it was fine.

Fine and dandy.

Even though I got it in 5 tries, it rook SUCH a long time because so many of my guesses weren't real words! :-\
-
My third and fourth guesses were just to make guesses for other letters, even though I knew that they wouldn't be the real word for today. ::)
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept rather well. Stella spent most of the night pasted to my side, and to my irritation, Annabelle has decided to abandon her princess pillow next to me to sleep smack in the middle of the mattress. I really hate it because her 10 lbs of sleeping beauty prevent my restless legs from moving aboput the mattress. She and I need a discussion, which I know I will lose.
-
I have a doctor's appointment today, and then I think Joshie is delivering the Gypsy Bows and Exit Music.
-
There's a senior citizen/infirm program called Freedom Care that advertises heavily on the TV. I decided that I could use its aid, so I called yesterday and spoke to a nice young lady, who then transferred me to a woman with a cursory connection to the English language. I understood maybe one word in fifty, and I finally in frustration hung up on her. So, I need to call them again today.
-
I was crazy about the John Huston film of Moby Dick when I was a kid, and although I have no memory of why my poor, low-income parents would pay for me to see it more than once, I swear that I saw it twice. I then spent months drawing ships and whales. I'd like to see it again.

Well, you've read the notes, the notes started a joke and you have to finish it
Isn't there a joke that goes something like: Faye Dunaway walks into a bar, screams at the bar for getting in her way.
-
I am up, ready to go (as I'll ever be) but won't be leaving for just under two hours. My cousin Debra is driving and accompanying me.
Am reasonably calm, slept well, and am looking forward to this time tomorrow.

I start on Medicare in May 2025. I've got to start paying attention to the TV commercials for senior health care.

Have we discussed possible Ruths for the upcoming WONDERFUL TOWN at Encores?
https://playbill.com/article/wonderful-town-replaces-the-wild-party-in-2025-city-center-encores-season
"Wonderful Town Replaces The Wild Party in 2025 City Center Encores! Season
Zhailon Levingston will direct the classic Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, and Adolph Green musical comedy."
Strange to realize that the Broadway WONDERFUL TOWN which starred Donna Murphy, and then Brooke Shields, (and which started in 2000 at Encores) was over 20 years ago!

When does it start?
The sign-up date starts three months before turning 65, so dare I hope the Medicare literature will wait until after the Christmas holiday rush?
-
Sorry; not really sure. But come, it will. They know where you live.
-
This is just a little post of my own making.
-
Forgot to mention that I watched and enjoyed the Noel Coward documentary that BK wrote of a few days ago.
-
I'm told (by a high school friend who turned 65 this past August) the approach, on top of the automatic plans A and B, is to pay for a prescription plan, and if there's an affordable plan G, to get that. (This is all word salad, or some kind of salad, right now.)
-
The prescription coverage is Part D.
-
Depending on your situation and needs, you may want to get additional supplemental coverage that covers more than A and B.
-

MediCare A and B are standard. They cover some, but not the most. of what you may need, like hospital stays, prescriptions, minor/major surgeries.
United Healthcare has medical plans for all kinds of needs. When I retired and moved out of California, I forfeited my comprehensive Kaiser medical plan, BUT, my retirement included a monthly allowance to purchase insurance. United Healthcare Plan F is what I have, but I understand "F" is no longer available to newcomers. In many cases, my needs are covered 100% as long as they are short-term or one-time.
When you talk to someone about Medicare, get the facts on what is covered and what isn't. Either go with an additional medical insurer or, at the least, inquire about Medicare Part C. An additional insurer is better for you in your "decllining" years.

Good morning, all.

I slept fairly well, but I am tired.

More dreams of waiting in line and breaking up into smaller groups.

Good morning, all.
-
I don't feel like stirring yet.
-
I need to go grocery shopping.
-
I emptied most of the fridge before I left.
-
Came home and it was still empty.
-
Amazing how that happens.
-
I will start on Moonflower Murders.
-
And I must clean some corner of the house.
-
But first ...
-
Let's move on ...

Three!
-
We watched the Huston Moby Dick a few months ago and it was most enjoyable. I had meant to look up the composer, and didn't. BK has now kindly done some of my work for me.
-
I had my "wellness" exam yesterday. Nothing much to report. Which is of course usually better than if there IS something to report. I've got bloodwork to get done next week.
I'm still in this strong allergy spell which had the doc unconcerned. He said many are dealing with it, and I might even have had a small virus that left me with a lot of post-nasal drip. It does feel like that.
-
I reckon that by now, DR Ron Pulliam is en route to his cataract surgery. Looking forward to hearing it all went swimmingly.
I dozed off and on the rest of the day after mine -- partly from the drugs, but also because I didn't see well enough until that evening or the next morning, because your eye is super-dilated and it takes that long for it to settle down and let you focus. And you're initially wearing an eye shield for a while.
-
Access-a-Ride and I both screwed up this morning. My ride was scheduled for 8:45a.m. Around 6:00 I got an AAR text saying my ride wold arrive in fifteen minutes. WTH?
Then, at 8:15 I called AAR since I had no idea where things stood. I was told the car would be there at 8:45. Then I got an AAR text at 8:30: your car has arrived; the driver's name is Vassily. Usually the texts include a phone number; there wasn't one. So, I grabbed the walker and headed for the lobby. I figured I would call AAR from the lobby and ask them to have the driver call me so I copuld find the damned car.
As I opened the door to leave, my stomach did several somersaults, and I spent several long minutes in the bathroom being sick. While I was there, I called AAR to cancel my two trips and then called my HMO to reschedule today's appointment. WTF!
-
Oy!
Feel better, DR Elmore, and sorry to hear about the screwed up trip.
-
Good morning!
-
Belated birthday wishes to DH Richard.

Wordle: 6/6. Didn't think I was going to get it today

Amazing how that happens.

I love this for him.

Hope your tummy mellows out, Dear Elmore.

While Mrs R’s away (and sometimes when she’s here) my kids sleep in our bed. They sound like your cats. They take up all the space. My daughter isn’t able to sleep unless she’s paralyzing my arm. Etc. But it’s cozy.

Feel better vibes for DR ELMORE.

DR RODZINSKI The Brothers Four have always been a great favorite of mine....I have most of their LPs, I would guess, and a couple of CDs.
Always a great listen.
I always like to listen to a quartet as opposed to a Trio....except of course The Chad Mitchell Trio.
-
That’s cuz the Brothers Four were the Best Music On/Off Campus!

The Bro4 (as the kids call them) have so many deep cuts.

Eddystone Light rocks!

Good morning.

Re Medicare programs:
Tell your husband to make the decision and you won't complain about it.

Did I ever send you the recently discovered Chad Mitchell Trio recording of "The Ballad of Murder Incorporated"?

John, I think we began watching the Moonflower Murders and then turned it off after Keith realized he hadn't liked Magpie Murders. I didn't really care.

I made it though 1.5 episodes this morning. It's okay, nothing more.

I think it's time for a nap.

I had to sign up for Medicare a couple of years ago but since Vixdad and I are still working and we're covered under his insurance I haven't had to use it. But I guess I had better start researching since he's talking about retiring .

I agree that you need a prescription plan even if you don't currently need prescriptions.

DR Fred,
When we first went on Medicare, with secondary insurance, it wasn't an issue with our doctors. Moving here, it took us a long time to find a doctor that took it. That lasted about a year when we were warned that we needed to switch to Medicare Advantage through Medicare or privately. We switched to Regence Advantage which includes perscriptions and dental. An all in one package is nice.
My advise, make sure you get insurance that doctors in your area actually take.
-
A friend has loaned me his 5-disc The Sound of Music restored soundtrack blah blah blah CD package released last year, so that's what I've been listening to today. Every note in the film, incredible detail in the documentation, and of course super glorious sound.
He doesn't have a Blu-ray player or drive, but I can play the fifth disc which is Blu-ray Audio, and I believe that's the first one of those I've tried. Absolutely glorious. That disc also has a Dolby Atmos (which I don't have) mix of the original album tracks, so even I am not hearing all that's available.
-
OMG DR ELMORE.
Thank you so much.
That was wonderful. It rivals Hang On The Bell, Nellie as my favorite.
Brook-Lye-En!
-
Amazing how that happens.
;D

Only he is talking about retiring? I thought you might do it together and move to Florida.

When we lived in Michigan it was a rare treat for me to visit the John King bookstore. When I first went to Powell's in Portland I was a bit disappointed as it, for me, didn't equal King's.

I saw something about Kings on FB which is why I am mentioning it. Over time I forgot the name and was very excited to see it.
-
Of course I could have asked DR Ginny :)

Thanks for that info, Jane.
Right now, still at 64, I use a Fidelis Care plan which my primary care doctor and his associates takes, and it includes my prescriptions, subject to a small deductible, usually $10 - and approval of the prescription by Fidelis, of course. I'll make sure to check what's included when it's time for Medicare in six months.
-
On a prescription where they can give me 3 months at a time, the deductible was $30.

Page Five!

Not bad. What if the cost of the prescription is less than $30, or does that never happen?
-
My Synthroid is more money through the insurance than buying it through the company. I remember when I first when on it the cost was extremely low.
-
OMG DR JANE....I have never heard of that bookstore.
I am gobsmacked.
-
When I went to the store I spent $85 for four small bags. Outrageous.
-
Of course I bought two bottles of wine and two bottles of vodka....but still.

Not bad. What if the cost of the prescription is less than $30, or does that never happen?
Sometimes, it's under the $10 for a month's supply, like there was a prescription a few weeks ago which was under $6.00, and one which was 51 cents.
I started being insured by Fidelis a little over a year ago, and the prescription out-of-pocket costs have all been very reasonable so far, so I haven't been trying to figure out the logic of why the numbers are what they are.

Maybe they have a Medicare plan.

I just looked over the John King Books website. Incredible. That's almost (not quite, but very nearly) as seductive as Larry McMurtry's shops in Archer City. And of course Powell's, and sadly, I've never been up that way. It also brings to mind the dearly departed Acres of Books in both Long Beach and Cincinnati.

On one of my trips to King's I purchased a couple of old books. Keith was unimpressed and said they weren't worth much. I knew, just liked how they looked and I wanted a keepsake from the store.
Those books are still sitting out on an end table in our living room cuz they look nice.

Here's Judge Jeanine Pirro's take as performed by Cecily Strong on SNL
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-kInWtLOlk
"Judge Jeanine, are you drunk?"
"Colin, don't be silly, I just had a glass of wine with dinner."
"What was dinner?"
"Two bottles of wine."
Watch for the "winter tickle" in her throat at around 1:20 in. :)

Even though we did our research before getting our insurance, both times we still used a broker to help us finalize our decision and to set it all up for us.

Yes, I'll definitely use a broker to navigate Medicare.

Ron, hoping all went well!
-
Laura, I love the "Wheel of Fortune" tribute in your "Treat yourself a round of sausage" quote!
That poor contestant!

Am home, have just awakened from a two-hour nap during which time I was listening to the Audible app and Al Pacino reading his book "Sonny Boy". I had no idea of how steeped in poverty he and his family were. It's an interesting story.
The surgery went very well. Of course, I was there for quite a while before the actual procedure was accomplished. And while I was aware of what was going on, I couldn't tell what was being done and felt nothing. It was relatively quick, as such things go.
On the way home, I found I could read signs I hadn't been able to before and this was without eyeglassesd. I am wearing a clear eye piece over the eye, and that bothers me a bit...my eyelashes keep brushing against it. Otherwise, no pain even after all the drops wore off. I have been told to expect the dilation to continue through tomorrow and possibly Saturday, but I already know things are much, much better, sight-wise.

DR ChasSmith called it correctly...his experience was the same for me.
I still feel groggy. I wouldn't trade it for anything, though. I anticipate better days.

Thanks!!

That's great! I did not care for my patch though I was only required to wear it at night. Doctors have different opinions on wearing the patches.
I was shocked how long my eyes stayed dilated.
-
Great news on the successful surgery, DR Ron Pulliam!

Great news, Ron.

Six!

TOD: The most memorable for either actor (probably due to recency) was Ian McKellen as Macbeth with Judi Dench as Lady Macbeth. When we did Verdi's opera, a bunch of the chorus got together to watch this before staging rehearsals started.

When I was in Germany over Christmas a few years back, the radio station my sister listened to played Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah over and over again. Since when did this song become a Christmas song? It’s now the opening song on Jennifer Hudson’s Christmas album? Do people just not pay attention to the other lyrics?
-
It’s like Republicans not paying attention to Born in the USA.
-
That annoying eye shield protects the eye from being rolled over on in sleep, accidentally rubbed, that kind of thing. I found that experimenting with shifting it a little before re-taping it kept the eyelashes from hitting it. My doctor had me wear it while sleeping for a week, for each eye.

I never really paid attention to the words. Curious as to why it is considered a Christmas song I found this article. https://variety.com/2022/music/news/hallelujah-leonard-cohen-book-excerpt-alan-light-expanded-edition-1235281084/

This is truly stupid compared to Hallelujah.

I never had a problem with my eyelashes and the patch, on me, was very large. I needed a lot of tape to keep it on and the tape bothered me the most.

I'm up, I'm up - a bit over eight hours of sleep.
-
Tons of e-mails to respond to.
-
I've shaved and will shower shortly.
-
Now have my appointment with the doctor who does the eye surgery on 12/2, the day before the first Kritzerland rehearsal. It will be a visit to determine which muscle or muscles are causing the issue and then I'm hoping we can set the surgery appointment right then.
-
I have my physical in two weeks.
-
Thanks for the heads up, DR Jane. I just "liked" John K. King Used & Rare Books on FB.

You've heard of Elf on a Shelf?
Well, get ready for Martha on a Mantel!

Thanks for the update DR Ron Pulliam. Sounds good so far. Glad for that.

Excellent news you have an appointment. I expect, unless he can't determine which muscle it is, you will book the surgery before you leave the office. Vibes you can book it then.

Well, get ready for Martha on a Mantle!
Scaring the holiday spirit away.

Showered and cleaned up and waiting to be picked up. Then it's food and concert.

Have a great time, BK!

FWIW: Watching TV, I am greatly aware of a vivid difference in colors and brightness between my left and right eyes.
I had heard that this might be the case. I didn't realize I'd notice it quite this fast.

Yes vibes for MR BK.

Good to hear that DR RON PULLIAM's surgery went well.

I think the worse your cataracts are at the time of the surgery the more you notice this. While I noticed a difference I don't believe it was as great as what you are seeing.

I fixed my spelling of mantel. But it doesn't automatically correct in all of the quotes. Oh, well.

Until today, I had never heard of the Brothers Four.

A question for the pundits: When the dreaded Page Seven appears before 8 pm (Eastern time), is it still dreaded?
-
I love this for him.

My third and fourth guesses were just to make guesses for other letters, even though I knew that they wouldn't be the real word for today. ::)
Keith also does that though I think he fills in the blanks with an x.
I do that a lot, too.

Glad all seems to have gone well, Ron!

I had to sign up for Medicare a couple of years ago but since Vixdad and I are still working and we're covered under his insurance I haven't had to use it. But I guess I had better start researching since he's talking about retiring .
Only he is talking about retiring? I thought you might do it together and move to Florida.
He's two years older than me, my plan has been to work until 70 and collect the maximum SS since I have no pension

Congratulations on successful surgery Ron!

I am currently on the train heading home after seeing a new show at NYU Skirball Center: The Civilians Sex Varients of 1941

She was great as Judge Jeanine! :D

Eight!
Eight...is great!

That's wonderful, Ron!

No. They don't. ::)

Good night, all.

Back from dinner and concert. Seven people at intermission came up to me and sweetly asked me why I hadn't directed the concert, because they'd ll seen the huge 90th birthday concert I directed. Listen, it was emotional because we all loved Richard, even those who didn't know him well. But I'm just a stickler about concerts and that's never going to change - this was all a bit too loose for me, the show order wasn't quite right, and it ran about two hours and forty minutes, and I think you all know I'm a two hours in and out guy. Some lovely performances, though, and, you know, it's the Sherman Brothers. They did have a nice montage of images to start the show and even though I was quite sure they'd leave it out, they had Levi there. They didn't sing anything from it, but it was sure nice to have even the tiny acknowledgment. Lots of heart. I'm sure the producers were very proud - Howard Green, Don Hahn, Gregg Sherman, and Tim O'Day. It was mostly open seating, but Howard made sure I was in the reserved section, so we had assigned seats. In fact, I was sitting two rows behind Elizabeth Sherman, so we had a nice chat and I'm going to visit her in a few weeks.

Now I must write some damn notes.
