Ooo...I'm getting real close to a millstone!

Just got back a little while ago from watching Wicked Part 1 which was as fantastic as I was hoping for. I thought it was perfectly cast and wonderfully directed. Jon Chu is a local hero in our town as his father is the proprietor of our most popular Chinese restaurant.

Wow, 196 Guests viewing the board so early on a Sunday morning - or have they just not left after a busy Saturday night?

Good morning, friends.

Hello, 2 guests!

Good morning, all!

I slept rather well. Stella took up most of the bed and the room was too warm for all the blankets I was under.

This year was the first Thanksgiving since my infancy that I had zero turkey. You’re welcome, turkeys.

I am having significant shoulder pain since Thursday. Hoping it just kinda goes away. Was able to get a tree and get it decorated. But I can’t do any lights outside yet.
-
I had a most peculiar dream: a former teacher and I went to visit DR John G, who was living in Manhattan, and a very young Madeline Kahn, looking no more than 20 years old, was there. The apartment was small; there was a bathtub in the living area, and I was looking at magazines as well as the sunday NY Times Book Review. Madeline was telling us how much she hated Hollywood and how shew only wanted to work on the stage and take classes. I wanted to ask her about her operatic training when I woke.
As to the former teacher, I don't know who she was!
-
Lil Rodzette is funny. She sits at the tree and plays with the ornaments just as I did when I was a kid. You can ask her about any ornament and she knows its location and history.
-
DR Jeanne, your CD inquiry raises a lot of questions: what kind of music does your friend like? classical orchestral? classical vocal? any particular composer or singer?crossover? pop? jazz? country? holiday? show tunes?
I'd be very happy to suggest a few things, but I need more help from you.
-
It would be great to hang out with Madeline Kahn.

It would be great to hang out with Madeline Kahn.
I spent a week with her at the Brroklyn Academy of Music around 1988. She was great, but others like Chris Walken and Bob Dylan were too weird.
-
This morning I need to book Access-a-Ride. After that, I have no plans whatsoever.

I googled the Brooklyn Academy of Music Gershwein Celebration; it was 1987. It was a gala night, for which I was one of Michael Tilson Thomas' assistants, followed by a run of wonderful concert performances of Of Thee I Sing and Let Then Eat Cake. I only worked on the gala, which included the following artists: Chita Rivera, Julia Migenes, Madeline Kahn, Maureen McGovern, Rosemary Clooney, Greg Burge, Larry Kert, Bob Dylan, Christopher walken, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Leonard Bernstein, and Johnny Green. I'm sure I've forgotten someone important.
It was a great experience, and besides being a bit of a zoo, it was a wonderful concert.

I adored her. Her vocals in On the Twentieth Century were incredible.

Do you think GoLytely's play on the character name Golightly was intentional.

Happy December to one and all! The latest Broadway Radio Show is now up on the website... it's an At This Theatre episode where we look at the history of the musicals that have played at the Richard Rodgers Theatre (formerly known as the 46th Street Theatre)... from Good News in 1927 right up to its current hit tenant Hamilton!

I spent church in the kitchen, washing the sinkful of dishes that was there from whenever. We are having the church Christmas party on Saturday night, so we wanted an empty sink to start with.
-
So ... the family next door .....
-
(Here comes a Vixmom-type story)
-
Mom and Dad are a little older than my kids. Mom and Dad and son.
-
Mom has young adult kids from before. Dad has young adult/teen kids from before.
-
A few years ago, Mom's grandchildren came to live with them, because their mother was "away" for a few years.
-
That mom now back from being "away," so the kids have a mom.
-
Now another daughter, who was also "away," is there also, with her newborn.
-
So there are lots of people living next door.
-
These daughters seem to be the ones baking. And I'm so glad they are doing this with the kids.
-
And I'm all for it! They need to be doing this with the moms.
-
I think I know what to give them for Christmas.
-
A few years ago, Mom's grandchildren came to live with them, because their mother was "away" for a few years.
What does "away" mean? Inquiring minds want to know.

No idea about that, but one thing's for sure: Page 8 looks brightly in view.

TRACKER is also darkly lit quite a bit, but never so darkly lit that you can't really see star Justin Hartley's biceps and tight T-shirt. He's definitely worked out a lot since he was in THIS IS US.

They have a nice budget for TRACKER, so you'd think they could afford to give the lead actor T-shirts that fit.

Those of you on FB with former DR Penny, if you look at the calendar here you will notice today really isn't her birthday. The first time I saw her birthday pop up on FB I pointed out to her that she left the 8 off of her birthday. Nope, it was intentional on FB ;D

-
DR Jeanne, your CD inquiry raises a lot of questions: what kind of music does your friend like? classical orchestral? classical vocal? any particular composer or singer?crossover? pop? jazz? country? holiday? show tunes?
I'd be very happy to suggest a few things, but I need more help from you.
The backstory:
She says she grew up listening to the big R&H musicals, but also likes Indie Something I Never Heard Of. She said she likes fiddle music, so last year I gave her the lovely A Fiddler’s Holiday with the Jay Ungar and Molly Mason Family Band. (Ashoken Farewell was used as the theme for Ken Burns’ film The Civil War.) when she opened it she said, “I never heard of them!”, as if to say “They can’t be any good.” So I’m not trying to educate her or greatly expand her musical knowledge, just find something that she will relate to and find acceptable. She listens to KUSC (classical music) at the office and she likes that, but doesn’t recognize any of it. I don’t think she’s a jazz fan, but she said she likes the blues, which surprises me. I’m thinking classical or Broadway might be the best bet.

I am having significant shoulder pain since Thursday. Hoping it just kinda goes away. Was able to get a tree and get it decorated. But I can’t do any lights outside yet.
Sending HHW vibes that the pain goes away on its own.
Much better today. Still a little tender but I was comfortable enough to cover our outdoor tree in a delightful vomit of colored flashing lights.

Thanks for shoulder vibes, folks. I think they worked.

I enjoy Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I saw it for the first time in a Times Square AMC, which paid off during Downey’s narration directed toward Times Square theater audiences.
-
The best is the DVD commentary track with Downey and Kilmer being quite hilarious the whole time.

Notes are written and I'm now going to shower so I don't have to do that in the morning.

Crazy making.

Lil Rodzette is funny. She sits at the tree and plays with the ornaments just as I did when I was a kid. You can ask her about any ornament and she knows its location and history.
That's really cool, Rodzinski!

I love the recordings of Of Thee I Sing and Let Then Eat Cake with Larry Kert and Maureen McGovern. :)

It would be great to hang out with Madeline Kahn.
I adored her. Her vocals in On the Twentieth Century were incredible.
I agree! I do also love Judy Kaye's videos.

Here's one where she and John Cullum are performing in modern dress:
