Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a wide load, hit and ran, and were examined, and now it is time for you to post until the hit and run cows come home.

Topic of the Day: I don't remember what my first (or even earliest) ice cream bar actually was, but I do remember really liking ice cream sandwiches...and I still do! I would take two, then eat one cookie part of each, and put them together to make my own double-stuffed ice cream sandwich! Yummy! ;D

That sounds almost hedonistic, George!
The Chipwich ice cream sandwich was similar, I think. It had two very important food groups, chocolate chip cookies and ice cream.
-
Good morning, all!
-
It's a very chilly morning, but I am dressed warmly now, and the cats and I slept toasty warm all night.
-
BK, I am so sorry about your truck accident yesterday. I hope you can track Mr Big Load down.
-
DR George, your raisin comment last nmight reminded me that the chocolate candy I loved in college was the Chunky.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
Hope to hear from DR Ron Pulliam today.
-
DR George, that notation video was mind-bending.

I think today I need to deal with the holiday CDs; they need to be dusted off, weeded out and boxed up. Since I have no income work, I might as well accomplish some housework.
-
Who decides these things?
-
I think my first ice cream bar was the Popsicle, although I much preferred the Fudgsicle and the Dreamsicle. I also loved Eskimo pies.
-
Julie Andrews sings about cherry ripe in Victor/Victoria, but likely that is not referencing the candy bar.

Was there something I saw in a movie where she said she had cherry ripe for pudding?
-
Good morning, all.
-
I stayed in bed a leetle longer than I might have, and here I am, heading for the door. Another day of rehearsals, then a concert tonight. And so it goes.

There’s a big break in between, so back later!

And a great 18th century song it is! It also features in the first movement of Eric Coates' wonderful "London Suite."

Does anyone know a 1964 film Gonks Go Beat? It's a British beat musical version of Romeo and Juliet. Here's a taste.

I just saw on Amazon the city of Pensacola misspelled as Peniscola, which is a drink of a different sort.

Hope to hear from DR Ron Pulliam today.
How very sweet!
My colonoscopy went well. The Surgical Center was very busy, and I probably had a 40-minute wait until an OR was available for my procedure. The staff were extremely engaging and accommodating, and I was out of there by 9:20 a.m. (reported at 6:30 a.m.). Seven polyps were removed !!! Still, I was told I don't need another procedure for three years.
For the entire day, I was groggy from the anesthesia they had administered. That did NOT stop me from driving up the street to get food at lunch time. Meat loaf, green beans and squash casserole. I devoured it after having had three days of near-famine.
Yes, that's an exaggeration. But I had not been allowed veggies or red meat, so the lunch was almost inhaled.
The rest of the day is a blur. I napped, I watched TV, and for the life of me, I couldn't get too interested in anyhthing beyond a few minutes (a least in the arly afternoon).
I started watching a Peter Bodganovich film called "The Cat's Meow". An interesting premise with a sterling cast, some of whom were miscast, IMO, but I found I could not sustain interest beyond about 40 minutes.
-
Last night, I had a couple of White Castle hamburgers. Deliciously inhaled.
And for some reason, I began to watch "Ordinary People", a film I had admired in the theater when it was first released.
Amazingly, the film offered much more resonance for me than my previous viewing. I was devastated and in tears.
Timothy Hutton was brilliant. Donald Sutherland was superb (and should have received an Oscar nomination. Among most of his contemporaries, Sutherland was supremely consistent and engaging but taken for granted, IMO).
Robert Redford's master stroke was casting Mary Tyler Moore as Beth. It's an amazing performance. But...why didn't she win the Oscar for which she was so rightfully nominated? Her character is wholly unsympathetic, that's why. Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. Without her performance, those of her co-stars would not have been as powerful or resonant.
Ah, well.
-
And that's all I have to say about yesterday.
Today, this afternoon, I return to The Eye Guys and Dr. Gardner, to have my two-week post-op checkup on my right eye. In nine days, I have the second surgery for my left eye. I cannot wait!!
-
TOD:
I don't know what my first ice cream bar was. I remember loving ice cream sandwiches, but preferred ice cream cones and popsicles. Loved grape and orange popsicles. I loved cherry flavored ones, but could seldom find them.
Nowadays, I buy boxes of "Fat Boy" ice cream sandwiches at Sam's Club. They are delicious, very thick and quite filling.
-
Good news, Ron.
-
TOD:
Ice cream has always been a part of my life I loved the sweet sweet sweet flavors when I was a kid. Our dog Rocky was named after Rocky Road.
-
I have always been a sucker for an ice cream sandwich. In addition to the traditional rectangular chocolate cookie and vanilla ice cream, I like the lemon cookie/vanilla combo.
I also like to take store-bought cookies and make my own. Soften the chocolate ice cream a little, scoop it between two white chocolate ship cookies and roll the edges in chopped nuts. Refreeze. Repeat using different flavors and cookies.
-
The Mexican ice cream parlors around me always make their own flavors, such as gansito (a strawberry jam-filled cake) and rompopo (eggnog). They always have a pink pine nut flavor that I love and guava, though the seeds can be a bit much at times. The coffee is more like a cafe con leche, also a favorite.
-
I'm hungry for ice cream now.
-
DR RON PULLIAM thanks for the report & the run down of the day.
Eye vibes for today.
-
We got about half an inch of snow yesterday.....and it is sticking around.
-
I am taking my friend Jerry for a birthday lunch today.
He has chosen El Rodeo for the event.
We used to always go to O'Charley's.....but since they closed, we stopped going there.
-
DR JOHN G I don't know that movie, but now I want to see it.
-
I was asking about the pictures, because I finally read a newspaper account of the October 19, 1942, traffic stop that started all of the trouble for Frances Farmer.
She was stopped at Pico Blvd. and 16th St.
Imagine my surprise to see that at one corner of that intersection is Woodlawn Cemetery......it's my guess that the policeman were waiting on 14th Street in front of the Cemetery....
I am adding an opening scene to my play so that we get to see the title actress in the beginning.....
So now of course it will be titled Four Arrests of Frances Farmer which has a nice alliterative lilt to it.

Isn't there a song in HAIR that goes "Fat Boys are Delicious" - or maybe something close to that?

Nice idea for the opening of the play!

I'm up, I'm up - four hours of not enough sleep. I got up at six-thirty and went back to bed at seven-fifteen, but due to a severe case of ABS (Active Brain Syndrome), I could not fall back asleep. Damn them, damn them all to hell.
-
Ice cream bars - I suppose first would have been a Popsicle.
-
When the Good Humor man would come through the neighborhood I'd sometimes do Fudgesicles but didn't care for them, but I did like the Creamsicle.
-
I would occasionally by Bon Bons in the movie theater - nice and cold and a fun thing to eat.
-
DR JOHN G I don't know that movie, but now I want to see it.
There are multiple videos on YouTube. I will watch more later. It's not very highly regarded.

From The Good Humor Ice Cream truck, my favorites when it came around in my youth were the chip candy crunch bar and the chocolate eclair bar.

I mostly remember the vanilla ones, but may have had this flavor, too.

I want some now!
-
I think there's one company that makes something like it now - seen it at Gelson's.

I do believe that a few of the "The Planet of the Apes" sequels preceded all of the sequels for "The Godfather".

I misspoke. It was Pico Blvd. and 16 St.
16th St. comes to a "T" at Pico because of Woodlawn.

Mad Magazine has a Stocking Stuffer issue out. It’s $15 a copy. Wow.

Jrand, we used to drive past that cemetery whenever we'd go visit my grandparents - you know, the what is it fish people. I can remember that we kids were told if we held our breaths from the start of it until we were past it, we'd have good luck. I have never ever since then driven by there without holding my breath. And that's hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of times - and continues to this day.
-
Just filed a claim with the insurance company, they gave me a list of their approved shops and I chose one that's only a couple of miles from here. They'll call me by end of day tomorrow, and then I'll set up the appointment sometime after Tuesday next week. Don't have any idea how long it will take. I'm not gonna rent a car - I'll just Uber places.
-
Not sure about that, but you have a Millstone alert - the huge 147,000 post millstone is probably less than a day away!
-
Appointment scheduled for next Wednesday - oops, that's the day I get my permanent cap. Damn. Changed it from noon to three and all is well.

Good afternoon

I have nothing to say

Guess I'll wordle

I have no idea how long it will take to do the work, so I have to figure out my schedule for the next few weeks. I think I can actually use Instacart for all the Christmas Eve Do stuff, as I did last year, should it not be ready by then. My plan doesn't cover rental cars so I really don't want to spend that money. I guess for stuff I really need to do, I'll Uber.

TOD: I expect the first ice cream bar was Good Humor, but I have no memory as to what. Like many here I was more of an ice cream sandwich fan.

The first ice cream bars I remember eating were Fudgesicles. I purchased them in elementary school with the nickle I took to school to buy a little carton of milk.
-
Eventually the school figured out kids were using their milk money for Fudgesicles and raised the cost by a penny or two. I had to work to find the extra money to buy my treats ;D

Which at least is mercifully short.

Stopped at Trader Joe's and picked up:
their tarragon/chicken wrap for a late lunch,
the frozen carne asada burritos for tomorrow,
their private label bag of the (Kettle) salt & pepper chips which are fabulous, and
two (2) bananas.

I do remember being an ice cream sandwich kinda guy as a young kid at the ice cream truck. Also liked (and still like) what I knew at one time as a "King Cone", not sure of its actual name or if it varied in different regions.
I think we often had popsicles in the freezer, which were okay (I probably liked them fine as a kid), and I did like fudgesicles (what in the hell IS the spelling, anyhoo?) but I'll bet I wouldn't now. The chocolate covered ice cream bars, whatever they were called then... yes! Always messy, but... yes!
-
Isn't that what a Dove Bar is, kinda?
I'm not looking any of this up, which of course would give me some answers.
Anyway, Dove Bars are g-o-o-o-d.

I'd try one now just for the hell of it, but I really wonder how good they actually are.

Taco was very good. Burrito way too big and not all that good, so I ate half and called it a day. Perhaps the tummy is finally shrinking a bit.

I didn't usually buy ice cream bars from the Good Humor Man. I got either a sandwich, sundae cup, or a drumstick.

DRs, I no longer believe in HHW vibes. They didn't do one damned thing between 2007 and 2022 when we finally sold that damned property at a huge loss.
That said, I just cleaned up three diarrhea messes in the bathroom that I am convinced is Stella's making. She has got to see a vet, and there's no way I can get her to one unless a big job comes through. I don't want charity. I want work, enough to keep me afloat and pay for their vet trips.

I brought home a box of leftovers for dinner - and it was still nice.
-
Tomorrow is shopping day.
Since there was a two hour school delay because of the light snow this morning - I decided to postpone the trip until Wednesday.
-
Yes DR FREDDIE I have heard that life IS a cabaret!
-
This looks good to me:

I'm not sure I would care for it though it is very pretty.

What's the buzz? Tell me what's happening.......
-
Is no one else concerned about George??? I cannot remember the last time he didn't post during the day.
-
Rehearsal is done and was really fun.
-
Thinking I might need a little something else besides the earlier taco and half a burrito.
-
Taking a break from Christmas movies with Paint Your Wagon. Dunno why.
-
The framework of The Turn of the Screw is set at Christmas and uses the tradition of telling ghost stories at the holiday. There’s nothing about Christmas in The Innocents, is there?
-

Sometimes he doesn't though I can't recall when.

'night
-
Ordered some matzoh ball soup for snack.
-
Watching a movie from this year.
-
Wow, DR Ron Pulliam. You are brave. My place made me swear on a stack of bibles that I would not drive for 24 hours.
~~~BIOPSY RESULTS VIBES~~~
Bupkis.
-
It's fun to say.
552 Guests are viewing this board now!
-
I've made it to the intermission. This is not terribly enjoyable. Nobody seems to have brought their A game to the movie, except maybe Nelson Riddle, who makes the music sound good, even when the singers don't.
-
With 552 Guests, think of the page views the site must be getting.
-
If I were seeing this in a movie theater, I might not return after intermission.
Topic of the Day: I don't remember what my first (or even earliest) ice cream bar actually was, but I do remember really liking ice cream sandwiches...and I still do! I would take two, then eat one cookie part of each, and put them together to make my own double-stuffed ice cream sandwich! Yummy! ;D
That sounds almost hedonistic, George!
The Chipwich ice cream sandwich was similar, I think. It had two very important food groups, chocolate chip cookies and ice cream.
That sounds good too, but when I have a hankerin' for an ice cream sandwich, I just want the plain vanilla ice cream and chocolate cookie. Simple yet elegant. ;)
-
DR George, your raisin comment last nmight reminded me that the chocolate candy I loved in college was the Chunky.
Glad I could help...even without even knowing it! ;D
For elegance in ice cream, I also liked Frusen Glädjé - which seems to be gone now.
I remember reading that the name was completely made up. The company just wanted a foreign sounding name (to compete with Häagen-Dazs, I think) and that's what they came up with!
-
DR George, that notation video was mind-bending.
I know, right??
Julie Andrews sings about cherry ripe in Victor/Victoria, but likely that is not referencing the candy bar.
Was there something I saw in a movie where she said she had cherry ripe for pudding?
Glad George finally showed up. We don't have the why, but I guess he was super busy.
-
Good night, friends.
-
And others.
-
I don't think I can wait up for BK to reach his new plateau.
-
He is close!
-
I am slogging my way through Make Room For Granddaddy......I might make it through all 20 episodes.
I'm a bit more than halfway through.
I have fast forwarded a couple of times.
-
Hi, George. You've been missed today.
-
The Andre Previn songs in this movie are terrible, but they seem more tailored for Clint Eastwood's thin voice than the Loewe songs.
-
I have always been a sucker for an ice cream sandwich. In addition to the traditional rectangular chocolate cookie and vanilla ice cream, I like the lemon cookie/vanilla combo.
I also like to take store-bought cookies and make my own. Soften the chocolate ice cream a little, scoop it between two white chocolate ship cookies and roll the edges in chopped nuts. Refreeze. Repeat using different flavors and cookies.
Oh, my goodness! I've never heard of a lemon cookie/vanilla combo version! That sounds wonderful!
-
I was asking about the pictures, because I finally read a newspaper account of the October 19, 1942, traffic stop that started all of the trouble for Frances Farmer.
She was stopped at Pico Blvd. and 16th St.
Imagine my surprise to see that at one corner of that intersection is Woodlawn Cemetery......it's my guess that the policeman were waiting on 14th Street in front of the Cemetery....
I am adding an opening scene to my play so that we get to see the title actress in the beginning.....
So now of course it will be titled Four Arrests of Frances Farmer which has a nice alliterative lilt to it.
That's really cool, Jrand!
-
Just filed a claim with the insurance company, they gave me a list of their approved shops and I chose one that's only a couple of miles from here. They'll call me by end of day tomorrow, and then I'll set up the appointment sometime after Tuesday next week. Don't have any idea how long it will take. I'm not gonna rent a car - I'll just Uber places.
The last time I had to take my car in (to the dealer...there was a problem with the dashboard and it had to be replaced), I got a loaner for as long as they needed to keep my car. It was quite the convenience.
-
Yesterday by this time, George had already posted about 4000 posts - he was amazing. Today - bupkis.
I has arrived.
-
I went to my mom's (my niece was there, too) and helped her with some things, then I did a little shopping, then had to go to my sister's, and then came home after that.
-
Speaking of burrito, where the HELL is George. Yesterday, he'd already made 10,000 postings. What, he doesn't like ice cream?
I posted the first two posts after yours today and posted about ice cream sandwiches!
-
If you're not paying attention to anyone else's posts, then that's on you! ::)
;)
-
And speaking of burritos, today at my mom's, she made us some of her "enchiladas," which are essentially frozen bean and cheese burritos smothered in enchilada sauce and cheese and baked until delicious...and they were. ;D
-
Simple, but very good.
-
Went to the grocery store. Boring, I know.
Not boring if you bought some ice cream!
I did. A pint of Little Debbie Nutty Bars jumped into my cart.
I love Little Debbie Nutty Bars! I didn't know that there was an ice cream version!
These days, if I have an ice cream bar it is this one.
Those are good!
-
Isn't that what a Dove Bar is, kinda?
I'm not looking any of this up, which of course would give me some answers.
Anyway, Dove Bars are g-o-o-o-d.
I don't love Dove chocolate. I do know I'm in the minority.
-
Oh, look! It's PAGE NINE!!
Maybe someone should do a wellness check on George?
Freddie checked in. All is well with George. :)
-
Good afternoon.
DH: "What should I do with this melted butter in the microwave?"
Me: "Oh crap. I must have left it out of one of my baking projects."
:))
Too funny! I'll admit that I'm sure I did something like that at least once. ;D
-
DRs, I no longer believe in HHW vibes. They didn't do one damned thing between 2007 and 2022 when we finally sold that damned property at a huge loss.
That said, I just cleaned up three diarrhea messes in the bathroom that I am convinced is Stella's making. She has got to see a vet, and there's no way I can get her to one unless a big job comes through. I don't want charity. I want work, enough to keep me afloat and pay for their vet trips.
:(
Glad George finally showed up. We don't have the why, but I guess he was super busy.
I have since whyed. :)
Hi, George. You've been missed today.
Thanks, John. Glad to know that people care.
Yes. Yes. Yes.
I’m done for tonight.
-
Good night, all.
-
Gratuitous post 250!
-
All catched up!
-
My little sis when she was a tot and we were throwing a ball around would say, “Catch it to me, in the air!”
-
Yes, George, I saw the two posts from last night. It's all good. I pay attention to everything that's going on here.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
Ice cream. Where do I begin?
Probably Dairy Queen. A bag of Dilly Bars, yes, this was when each store made their own on premises and bagged them up, those were a precious commodity in my house.
-
Six kids. Maybe ten Dilly Bars in a bag. You did the math. If you wanted more than one, you had to get to them early on the 2nd day they were in the house.
-
Bay Area folks will know the “It’s-It.” An ice cream sandwich made with cookies and then dipped in chocolate. Excellent.
-
But the Mickey Mouse version of Dilly Bars you get at Disney and now in stores, those are great. Thick chocolate.
-
And the Snickers ice cream bar. Wow! It’s 10x better than a Snickers candy bar.
-
Before I cut sweets out to lose some weight, I got a box of strawberry eclairs, the kind ice cream trucks used to sell. They come on a stick. Brought back some memories.
-
Dipped cones from DQ are probably my favorite, especially if the DQ carries butterscotch flavor.
-
Body shops. Seems like they can take a long time. They gotta order the right parts, etc. Don’t know how many panels of BK’s car were affected.
-
Bumper and left side rear panel - the damage doesn't go to the driver's door but the panel does. So I think the bumper and that panel.
-
We ARE awfully close, aren't we?
-
I should do this before writing some damn notes.
-
The movie was pretty bad.
-
Actors were mostly fine but no one really had a chance with the script such as it was.
-
Closer than ever.
-
I do feel that page ten is waiting in the wings.
-
See?
-
Enter page ten?
-
And a new posting plateau of sorts. Someone grab it whilst I write some damn notes.
-
I agree completely about Edward Burns.
-
I prefer Edd “Kookie” Byrnes.
-
Even as a director.
-
New notes are written.
Thanks to MichaelG for immortalizing the new number.
Congrats, BK!!
We BOTH had impressive new numbers this week.
-
:D
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
And now they can be read.
-
By one and all.
-
Free.
Did you know that free spelled backwards is eerf?
