Well, you've read the notes, the notes were very French, and now it is time for you to post until the French cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: IMMENSE!
-
I was just about to post this last night. ::)
Where'd his burrito get to?
I actually had a Taco Bell Burrito Supreme with extra beef tonight last night. It dripped on my hands and shirt a bit, but was very good, as usual.
-
Red Balloon was shown to me in kindergarten, but as you say, no dialogue. So what was my first? Did I go from Le Ballon Rouge right to L’Age D’Or? Had to be something in between there. Maybe L’Annee Dernière a Marienbad. Not sure. Maybe Manon of the Spring.
-
As I am currently trying to learn French, I need to start watching these movies.
-

I remember seeing The Red Balloon in school, too! Otherwise, I haven't seen many French Film in French. :-\ But certainly, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is a favorite, as is The Triplets of Belleville.
-
Umbrellas of Cherbourg reminds me of this other film, anyone know the title? I think it’s Italian. Black and white. A big homeless encampment and the govt is trying to dismantle it. It ends with all the poor people flying away on umbrellas and broomsticks, singing a defiant song as they soar away.

You can order extra beef? Who knew?

Yes, most, if not all, items are customizable. :)

Rodzinski, it's Miracle in Milan, a wonderful film of De Sica. I watch it once a year.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
I know not from French.
-
.
-
:)
-
That's the sorrowful precis.
-
Good morning, all!
-
It's very chilly this morning. When the alarm rang at 5:30, I was cuddled up with Thatch and Annabelle, so I slept in. I got up at 6:30 wqhen three rambunctious cats were raising hell for breakfast.
-
He promised his wife it would fit.
-
I'm a little melancholy this morning. Today would have been my dad's 103 birthday. After 17 years, I still miss him. I hardly ever think of my mother; there's too much anger and resentment for her madness and other shortcoming, but I miss my dad every day.
-
Good morning.
-
Good morning, all.
-
My mother wanted me to make her meatloaf on her last Christmas she was in her house. I used Ina Garten’s recipe but cut back on the breadcrumbs so it wasn’t too carby. It did have a ketchup glaze, as I recall.
https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/meat-loaf-recipe-1921718.amp
-
Mom’s meatloaf was never very good. I think she doubled up on the breadcrumbs so as to make it more budget friendly. Whatever it was, it was dry.
-
I think the first French movie I saw was Cocteau’s Beauty and the Beast. It was on an afternoon TV matinee. It may have been dubbed. But I was heavily influenced by the visuals and remembered it clearly years later. I especially remembered the arms holding the candelabras.
-
When I started going to foreign films in high school, I remember seeing Cat and Mouse, The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shore, The Lady in Red, The Marquise of O, The 400 Blows, The Wild Child and The Green Room among others. Truffaut was my favorite of the French directors.
-
I have too long a day ahead of me.
-
But first …

Two!
-
I'm providing refreshments tomorrow for church, and I need to decide what to make.
-
This is the biggest thing I want to have to think about.
-
BK, great to hear about your having a little modern major miracle yesterday!
-
Rodzinski, vibes that the skin issues you mentioned in last night's posts are easy to deal with!
-
TOD:
My first French film? I think it may have been Truffaut's "La Nuit Americaine" ("Day For Night") mais, qui sait?
-
Good morning, all.
-
I had five years of French...three in high school (conversational only) and two in college, where I struggled with grammatical structure and later, French literature. But, i passed.
-
I have too long a day ahead of me.
Vibes for getting through the day, John G.
-
Been thinking about it, and I have no idea what my first French film would have been. In thinking about foreign language films in general, I'm wondering if Bergman's were some of my first.
-
This is the biggest thing I want to have to think about.
Vibes that you get what you want regarding that, Laura.
-
I'm pretty sure the first French film I saw in a movie theeder was The Mad Adventures of Rabbi Jacob, or Les Aventures de Rabbi Jacob.
There were a lot of TV commercials for it way back in the early 1970s.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mad_Adventures_of_Rabbi_Jacob
-
Nothing's wrong. I just like having nothing important to have to think about.
-
I think I posted that I entered a casual relationship with French via Duolingo some weeks ago. Just the free version for now, and I'm afraid only a few minutes per day, but I'm planning on jumping more seriously into it after the first of the year with (1) the paid version of either that or maybe another like Rosetta Stone, and (2) more time and concentration spent on it.
-
I think my first subtitled French film was Breathless......in the mid 60's our local channel 4 would show a foreign film each Sunday night at 11 p.m.
My favorite French film from France is Les Uns et Les Autres
-
It is 32 degrees headed for 49 degrees with rain.
-
A Generation At War will be shown on the Fort Wayne PBS station in February.
They are having a premiere at the local cinema on February 7, I think.
I got word that I am still in final cut which is nice to know.
-
After all the talk last night.....I may make a meat loaf tomorrow.
-
I think the only French films I've ever watched are La Cage Aux Folles and La Cage Aux Folles II
-
I like a beefy meatloaf, not a tomatoes one.
-
My mom made meatloaf with catsup and mustard big chunks of onion and green pepper and I never liked it
-
My meatloaf is made with Italian breadcrumbs, penzeys sunny paris and beef stock
-
Wordle i guess
-
Thanks so much for all the good wishes for my Dad's birthday!
-
My first French film was probably when they showed us Un chien andalou in high school. Boston theaters used to show French movies so I saw Cousin Cousine, Peppermint Soda, and others that I can't recall now.

I think (I said I think!) the first French film I saw was Diabolique in college foreign film series. The next French film, I think, was Pourquoi Pas, about a menage a trois, that I saw in 1979, one of my first films in New York. Other films I like include:
Amelie
La Ceremonie
Cyrano de Bergerac
Au revoir, les enfants
La Kermesse Heroique
La Femme du Boulanger
Queen Margot
Going Places
The Return of Martin Guerre

I upgraded this week to the Max version because you get “video call” conversations with the humorously blasé character, Lily. I needed to start conversational work.

I walked to the store to get some spices for gingerbread.

I'm up, I'm up - seven and a half hours of sleep with VERY weird dreams.

DR Vixmom is LaCroix less carbinated than regular soda?
-
It wouldn't be the holiday season without an annual viewing of this: 8)

LaCroix is flavored seltzer, so I think it's just that it doesn't have any added sugar.

Bruce are there any Daily Grill's left? The one near my brother closed years ago. I know the one in Portland is gone.

Pretty sure the Daily Grill is still at the Marriott across from the Burbank Airport.
-
Let's check.
-
Yep, still there, but with no delivery services.
-
A shame or I'd order the meatloaf.
-
To bed or not to bed.
-
That IS the question.
-
There's a bit of hammering from across the street, so probably not.
-
Maybe a bit later.
-
I think the one name in French films from France that stands above the others, IMHO, is Marcel Pagnol. I love the movies he made and those based on his books, including:
Jean de Florette
Manon of the Springs
My Father's Castle
My Mother's Glory
The Baker's Wife
The Well-Digger's Daughter
-
Thanks for the reminder, DR George. Earlier I meant to post {{{HUGS}}} for DR elmore3003 on the anniversary of his father's passing.
-
More hugs for DR ELMORE.
-
DR singdaw I don't remember seeing that O Holy Night video before......and now I will never be able to unsee it.
-
Lots of basketball games on today, tonight, and tomorrow.
-
I didn't discover Lelouch until around 1971 and after that you couldn't keep me away from his films. I own most of them on DVD now. Ironically, I didn't see his most famous film until about twenty years ago - A Man and a Woman. Not my favorite. But we released and sold out of it on CD, and we also did the soundtrack for Another Man, Another Chance.
-
Wordle in six.
-
Also very fond of the films of Claude Sautet, enjoy many of the Chabrol films. I run hot and cold on Truffaut. Like 400 Blows and Shoot the Piano Player, love Fahrenheit 451, Small Change, Mississippi Mermaid, Day for Night, The Story of Adele H. and a few others.
-
And of course, we haven't really mentioned the classics like Rules of the Game or Children of Paradise - I should watch both again, I suppose.
-
I find almost all of Jacques Demy at least interesting, frequently brilliant, and the only one I can't really watch is The Pied Piper.
-
Of the newer folks, Francois Ozon can be very good.
-
And I'm a huge fan of Georges Franju's Eyes Without a Face and Judex.
-
Also a fan of Louis Malle.
-
I discovered Jean-Pierre Melville only about fifteen years ago, but really enjoy many of his films.
-
Eyes Without a Face is most excellent.
-
Page Five.
-
And I absolutely love Patrice Leconte.
-
Instead of bread crumbs in the meat loaf, my mother always used saltine crackers.
I use an 8 ounce bag of TGIF cheddar/bacon potato skin chips crushed to a pulp. I used ketchup in the mixing bowl, some DICED green pepper, and some diced onion. I don't use any other seasoning.
And since I am OFF potatoes, I add a drained can of corn kernels to bake with the loaf.
And when it comes out of the oven, I add a ketchup glaze to the top.
-
And I'm good for three or four days.
-
Pretty sure the Daily Grill is still at the Marriott across from the Burbank Airport.
I'm glad some are still around.
-
Yep, still there, but with no delivery services.
Too bad you can't get it delivered.
-
I liked their broccolli and mashed potatoes.
-
DR Rodzinski do your children read the Dog Man books, or any of the other graphic novels by Dav Pilkey?
-
Jean Renoir’s films are excellent. I had started watching his complete works a few years back. I need to finish that project.
-
Had salad number one - these are pre-made and pretty good. I used my Good Seasons dressing rather than the tiny thing they included. Total calorie count - 350. So far, so good.
-
It’s 75 degrees out there.
-
Jrand and Elmore are both 14 posts away from round new millstones.
What are the odds of this happening - is this as unlikely as winning the lottery?
-
There are two French films based on the same Georges Simenon novel, Panique and Monsieur Hire. Both are very different and both are wonderful. And with their tonal differences, both are faithful to the original.
-
As I am currently trying to learn French, I need to start watching these movies.
Yes, you should.
-
I will say this, though:
Glitter should be outlawed.
:)) It should be.
-
Au Revoir les Enfants
Amélie
Umbrellas of Cherbourg
The Red Balloon
-
Glitter!

Wow DR FREDDIE I didn't even notice.

I found a bag of microwave popcorn and prepared it.

It tastes electrocuted......
-
......and now I will never be able to unsee it.
That audio has been around for quite a while, but the lip synching video of it I had not seen before, either.
-
Eyes Without a Face is most excellent.
I Want to Eat Your Eyes Without a Face doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
-
Up from a nap.
-
Still doing laundry.
-
We've got some precipitating going on, but (at least so far) it's not as dire as they were predicting.

We haven't had any measurable precipitating since August.

We have a microwave popper that pops our popcorn and is much better than bagged microwave popcorn.

Watching Hundreds of Beavers. It is hilarious. An almost silent movie with the right amount of silliness to it.

DR Rodzinski do your children read the Dog Man books, or any of the other graphic novels by Dav Pilkey?
My son owns most Dav Pilkey books, yes.
-
I remember many years ago when BK was on a Leconte bender.
-
I recall seeing Renais’ Mon Oncle D’Amerique in a college film class and really disliking it.
-
We watched Conclave tonight. I am glad I read the book first - they had to streamline and cut a lot out for the film.

Gingerbread!

I watched the Go-Between on TCM.
I had never seen it.
Very good. But I think I will need to see it again.

We are having some rain as well....expected to last into the early morning.

Well, I'm still in Seattle.
-
Earlier today, I worked concessions for another local Nutcracker ballet, and that went quite well.
-
We had a steady stream of patrons, both preshow and at intermission.
-
I didn't hear what the final count was, but the presold ticket count was 880!
-
And now that we're so close...
-
Gratuitous Post #200!!

Still on this damn page?

Four hours later?
-
Not very sporting.

Notes are written.

Healthy notes.

Anyway, after concessioning, I went up to Seattle because my friend David had an end-of-year party for where he works, and could invite a plus-one.

I'll try to be in bed by one at the latest.

George and his jam have become partay people.

I need to lie down on the couch and stretch and do my leg things.

And then after the party, instead of heading directly back to David's place, we walked along the boardwalk.
-
Midnight is nigh.
-
One must do one's leg things.
-
The time is nigh.

So sayeth the Brain.
-
the brainiest Brain.

It is actually Midt with nigh on the middle of it.

Here are a few pictures...
-
Here are David and I...

There is a Dory Previn documentary out there that I should like to see.

And this...

Winterfest looks classy. Nice photo!

I've seen them.

I've read them.

I wrote them.

They're healthy.
