Well, you've read the notes, the notes had the bad, the ugly, and the good, and now it is time for you to post until the ugly cows come home.

Good morning, friends.

CONGRATULATIONS to BK on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!!!

And CONGRATULATIONS on your new car!!!!

I don't know what most of those things are.

I was up too late watching a so-so Amazon Prinme documentary, knowing I had to be up at 5:30 for an Amazon Fresh delivery. I got to bed around 10:30, slept until 2:30, then spent three hours dozing and cuddling with Thatch and Annabelle. Amazon Fresh just arrived. I think, for the thired time in a row, there's a missing bag. Also, whoever packed the frozen goods just screwed up and I have a half gallon of mush, not ice cream.
-
I'm on the phone with Amazon Fresh. Looking over what I did not receive, I think there are two missing bags. Damn!
-
It took two phone calls to straighten out the Amazon Fresh mess. I blame the fact that every Amazon customer service person these days seems to speak English as a second or rthird language.
-
Good morning, all.

It's gotten so I dread calling ANY company about ANYthing because of that.

I don't know how BK has survived this car-buying experience thus far. An ordinary mortal would have been defeated by it before now.

Good audience last night. (I say that about this show because there are a few scenes with surprise audience participation, and they always "land" because they're constructed just well enough for the cast to maintain control and build to the proper points.)
But never mind. TONIGHT IS CLOSING NIGHT. Thank the Lord.

Good morning.

I have two batches of sugar cookies chilling. I'll spend the day decorating them.

That damned at Stella has now escaped the apartment two days in a row while I tried to lug out of the apartment yesterday a huge load of laundry and today a shitload of broken dopwn cartons and all the roled up Amazon Fresh bags. Since I cannpot chase her down I have to wait until she decides to dcome back in. One of these days, she's going to pull this and I will beat her to death with my cane. I am really quite furious at the moment, for her getting in the way and for the shitty life I've had since June 2020.
-
Good morning, all.

Here's hoping you get Stella back safe and sound, Elmore.

Maybe think about 2024 this way, even if you're struggling financially - Such an overwhelming percentage of artists would be filled with joy to even have one such great credit as you've had two of in 2024. An interview in the Times Arts and Leisure AND a credit in the Playbill of a hit Broadway show.

Saturday morning greetings! Today is the day we had planned to be driving to Illinois for Christmas with our granddaughters, but midweek we postponed to tomorrow because of my cold.
-
Yesterday, at Richard’s insistence I finally sought medical attention for my wheezing cough. PA heard “scraping” in my lungs, but chest X-ray was “normal.” Even though it’s not “full-blown” pneumonia she prescribed an antibiotic and rescue inhaler. Official diagnosis: acute bronchitis.
-
There’s still a possibility we’ll go tomorrow, but more likely Monday. Worst case is that we postpone until after they get back from New Year’s with the other grandparents.
-
Oh, Stella! Behave!
-
Once in a while Leonard takes off out the door. He never gets very far. I keep telling him that he's just a plain black cat and nothing special. No one else will ever love him like I will, so he should stay home.
-
It doesn't stop him from trying, though.
-
He would hide from everyone and never let anyone catch him. So unless he would go into a trap and be taken to a vet to be scanned, I wouldn't ever get him back.

And how long have you been wheezing? Thank Richard for me for his insistence.

Jen came down with a phillips screwdriver and fixed my walker's loose screws since I cannot find mine. Ann brought me brownies. They are off to Boston to pick up Ann's father for Christmas.
-
There's a wonderful holiday movie on Amazon Prime, The Man Who Invented Christmas, if you'd like to see a wonderful film stolen by Christopher Plummer as Ebenezer Scrooge.
-
Even though yesterday was not a Friday the 13th, BK certainly had the travails of one.
-
Congrats to MR BK on his new millstone.
Vibes for the money coming through!
And no don't get a new Medicare Card each year. You probably get a new card from the insurance company.....but your red, white, and blue Medicare card is only sent once.
I guess if you lose it, you can ask for another one.
-
Maybe MR BK's new car was once Laura's Mercedes....that was stolen by Roger Thornhill.
-
It is 30 degrees here headed for 33 degrees.

My Friday began with a trip to the Verizon store in Belvedere SC, just 18 miles from my home.
I finally gave up on my iPhone 11 Pro. While it still functions in most ways, one important way was in its function of making and receiving telephone calls. I was no longer able to receive calls, all incoming calls immediately going into my voice mail. That is very frustrating. And even more frustrating was making calls that wouldn't ring but would immediately go into someone else's voice mail.
I did not have any blocked calls, and all the online (so-called) "help" for that situation was of no use.
So...off the Verizon store in Belvedere where I had once taken my Aunt Doris when she needed a phone. It was a toss-up between that store and one in Aiken SC where I bought my iPhone 11. That store, however, is on a busy road on the other side of Aiken and was abut 27 miles away. I opted for Belvedere and arrived at the store by 9:55 a.m.
There were four people ahead of me, three customers being attended to and only two Verizon employees. One told me I would be helped shortly.
In the intervening 35 minutes, I learned that the people ahead of me had been waiting as much as a half hour BEFORE I arrived. I left the store, PO'd, of course, at 11:10 a.m.
Discouraged, I was, but I had other fish to fry. I returned home, visited the post office, went to a florist to pick up the urn for my parents' grave (red and white roses), drove to the cemetery to place the flowers and have a chat with their spirits, then drove to the recycling center to drop off a ton of cardboard, and continued my adventures.
I went to Edgefield to the Pool Room and bought a gift certificate for my cousin Butch's Christmas present (the Pool Room is where folks buy the best hamburgers and hot dogs in the area), and then went to McDonald's for a McRib, some fries and a Dr. Pepper.
-
Happily devouring the fries as I drove, I headed toward Aiken to visit the Verizon store there.
All was well until I got on the main road for all shopping in the area: Whiskey Road. While it moved, it moved stowly, and the Verizon store was a good ways down that road. Traffic was only backed up going up that road while it moved briskly in the opposite direction. But, it was the lunch hour.
I go there about 12:20 p.m., entered and checked in. Lots of folks there buying phones, two people were ahead of me, but they had about six employees helping customers (as opposed to the two in Belvedere).
-
My wait was about 15 minutes. When I got my turn, I explained my problems, my needs and expressed my desire for the iPhone 16 pro.
The associate told me the best deal she had: A one-for-one trade-in of my iPhone 11 for a new iPhone Pro, plus an apple Watch and an iPad. There was a one-time start-up and set-up fee of $257, and my monthly bill would increase by about $52, including the operating fees for the iPad and Apple watch.
I took the deal, and the transfer from my phone to the new one began. That ate up about 45 minutes or so, and then i was out the door and headed home where I arrived by 2:15 p.m.
-
And then....and then......
-
Stella come home vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
Feel better vibes for DR GINNY.
-
I would love to tell you that I am in complete heaven over all of this, but I cannot because of one thing: In order to actually use any of these great things, I need my Apple password. The only one I have a record of did not work as the system told me it was compromised. I would need a new password. I attempted to set one up and was directed to use my old phone to do this. My old phone directed me to use my new phone to do this. Once I tried that, i was told I provided insufficient information to change my password (I gave them what they asked for: My e-mail address and telephone number). I was then told I would need to wait several days while the system ensures the safety of my account.
What the fudge???
If none of this sorts out by Monday, I'm off to the Verizon store again.
-
That's too bad, DR Ron Pulliam. And very frustrating. I wonder if it could be solved over the phone with Apple without having to wait so long.
-
Oh. But you don't have a working phone.

The DH just ordered a new computer (at ruinous cost). The current one has slowed to a crawl. Delivery is not until next Friday.
-
We got an inch of - fortunately, powdery enough - sn*w before dawn's crack, which allowed me to blow it the HELL off the driveway with the backpack leaf blower.
That's MY kind of sn*w, man. Let's have it. Bring it on.
-
Thank goodness you didn't fall on your ASS, DR ChasSmith.
-
I've got to turn my phone in soon, like, in January after the dust has settled on this insane month of this insane year.
All of our phones have come from Verizon, because (1) we wanted their coverage in the first place, and (2) the three of us are on their family plan so we're supposedly getting whatever benefit there is to be gotten from that. So Verizon it shall stay.
The phone is actually working well for the most part, for its age. It's an iPhone 7-Plus from 2017. It had a wonderful then-new camera that has served me incredibly well -- and still does, for the most part. But it's slowing down some. I think the battery life is deteriorating, and this phone suffers from something that got a lot of people some money back from Apple (which I know about in time, so I didn't get it). There's a defect that causes the volume adjustment on phone calls and voicemail listening to be extremely limited. You can get it only so loud and no louder. And I'm here to tell you that "only so loud" ain't loud enough. So I've suffered with that long enough, and next month I'll waltz in (maybe not literally) to the local store and see what's what in current iPhones.
-
Thank goodness you didn't fall on your ASS, DR ChasSmith.
Exactly, DR singdaw. There was potential for that in one shady spot where a little bit had collected yesterday evening and I'd driven over it, so there was a micro-thin slick spot. At least to the feet. Might not have been noticeable in the car. I caught myself just in time, and gave that area some salt.
-
Got my hairs cut.
-
Did some grocery shopping.
-
I'm ready for a nap.

Searching for a bright side, doesn't that mean the ruinous cost will be tax deductible in 2024?
Or is there no such luck?

Thank goodness you didn't fall on your ASS, DR ChasSmith.

DR Elmore, I first noticed the wheezing when trying to sleep Wednesday night. Richard’s been taking care of me with this kind of illness since we were in “Beggar’s Opera” rehearsals, so he knows when intervention is needed.

New iPhone update:
I kept futzing with this new phone, getting the same message over and over. It also told me calling Apple Support could not speed up the process of changing my password.
I then had a crazy idea: I used my HP laptop and logged into Apple.com. I followed its instructions about setting up a new password, which echoed everything my phone had told me to do. But, i tried one more time and a different password which i have no memory of assigning to Apple, and it worked. It "took".
I am not fully functional yet, because all my apps must complete their download now that the system knows it's "me".
Will keep you posted.

That's beautiful, John! You are braver than I am!

I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.

As I feared, nothing is going to happen today. Hopefully, Monday morning. I really don't want to write another e-mail about it.

Bruce, congratulations on your new car and having it home with you.

I would not get a two door car again.

From Bruce:
So, at four-thirty I finally left. I drove to the onramp to the 218 freeway east, transitioned to the 2 freeway south, and transitioned to the 134 west where, to my surprise and shock, there was no traffic. And we moved right along all the way to the off-ramp to the mail place. Amazing and appreciated.
WOW!
-
DR John G. got buche'd. Congratulations!

No, really. I shouldn't be posting cheap pull-quotes like, for example,

That's just an example of what it's just too unseemly to post. Unless needed to pad the postings, of course. Then, anything goes.

DR FREDDIE I would never be interested in a movie called MY OLD ASS that stars two women.

This time of year always makes me think about family and questions and interesting thing such as......

Back from mail place, picking up laundry, and Gelson's who, amazingly, had the creamy tomato soup, which I got, and a sale on Diet Coke for 5.98 for a twelve-pack. I got three of those and I'll go back and get three more.

Fun learning about the car. I'm finally getting used to where you put it in gear. I'll take some photos tomorrow. I thought this would have a backup camera, but unless I have to do something in settings, it doesn't seem to. When I take it to an indy Mercedes jernt I'll ask what that cost would be because it's something I'd like to have. And the place I found that gets great reviews is literally four blocks from here.
-
The Timberwolves are playing at 8 p.m.
I wonder which shoes Luka Garza will be wearing?

The Shortest Day of the Year!
And it just seemed like yesterday that the days were still getting shorter.

Very nice, Vixmom!

vixmom, you're getting very close to really special posting millstone, 75,000.
That's a milestone of a millstone!
PUUUUUUUSSSSSSHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Did Stella come back home?
-
Who would become vice-president?
-
DR FREDDIE I would never be interested in a movie called MY OLD ASS that stars two women.
I think DR ELMORE and I should be the titular stars.
Can we say titular on a family site?
-
More vibes for Ginny to feel better so she can have Christmas with the young'uns!
Thank you, DR Laura. I really need some Vitamin C(harlotte) and H(annah).
-
Who would become vice-president?
I didn't search that far.
-
Can we say titular on a family site?
You and DR Jrand74 just did. 8)
-
:)
-
After inauguration day....
"The new president nominates a vice president. This nominee must be confirmed by a majority vote in both the house of Representatives and the Senate."
-
:)
-
I forgot how long the process takes.
"The office of vice president was empty for a couple of months in 1973 after Nixon's vice president, Spiro Agnew, resigned, until Gerald Ford was cleared to fill the spot. When Nixon later quit in August 1974, and Ford became president, he had no vice president for more than four months, until Nelson Rockefeller finally was confirmed by Congress"
-
DR John I began reading Dandelion Wine. There is a nice forward by Bradbury.
-
An interesting thought, what would be the process any elected, but not sworn in yet, can't be sworn in due to any reason. Does the elected, not sworn in yet, VP become the next president? I'm going to google this and see if I find an answer.
I was wondering the same thing, did you find the answer? abswer?
-
Just as I feared, the vice president-elect would become president.
Ah you did.

~~~Quick Recovery Vibes for Ginny!!~~~
I
How did Ford become president when Agnew resigned?
Did Nixon just appoint him or did Congress vote for him?
-
I shoukd really read ALL the posts before I ask questions
-
Did Stella come home?
-
Jen came down with a phillips screwdriver and fixed my walker's loose screws since I cannot find mine. Ann brought me brownies. They are off to Boston to pick up Ann's father for Christmas.
That was very nice of them, Larry. :)
My cookies are a hot mess. But the kids will like them.
I am sure they will.
-
Interestingly, adults won't take the cookies -- but kids love them.
I would take one.
-
Glad Rodzinski's kids are feeling better.
We have not had an update on how the family is doing.
Back from more grocery shopping.
-
And sweating a bit.
-
Ah, the page that shall not be named.
-
Not by me, anyway.
-
Tried to watch some dopey Eyetalian crime movie from the 1970s with Yul Brenner - dozed off.
-
Now watching another French film from France but it's a crime film that's too lackadaisical for the likes of me.
-
The search goes on.
-
As we all do.
-
We are the ones who go on.
-
That was immensely and intensely profound profundity.
-
But was it meta?
-
Speaking of going on.
-
Is page eight waiting in the wings, perchance?
-
See?
-
Enter page eight.
-
And with time to spare.
-
Just a few more to go here.
-
Oh, I see BK filled them in.
-
To get us off the page that shall not be named.
-
The name that shall not be paged.
-
Does anyone still have a pager?
-
Does anyone still page a haver?
I had silly food for food - the soup, and then I wanted to try those new chicken nuggets from Taco Bell - and you know what? They weren't bad at all. As the food idiots on YouTube would say, good crunch, moist chicken. I had one taco but they didn't put the taco sauce in the bag, and one small burrito thing, in honor of George's Jamburrito.
-
Later, I'll probably have some cheese and salami for a snack.
-
Who's gonna stop me.
-
I think I'm still in the right calorie range.
-
I wonder why such a large percentage of takeout orders are either plain wrong, or missing stuff.
-
It's infuriating, really.
-
Yep, just looked up the calories for my three items and we're good.
-
It shouldn't be that hard to get it right.
-
My Three Items - that's the title of my next novel.
-
If takeout is wrong, I don't wanna be right.
-
I ordered plain as day three mild sauce packets. It wouldn't be a problem, but last week I tossed out all the extra sauce packets that were taking up too much room in the cupboard.
-
My Three Items - that's the title of my next novel.
It's like My Three Sons, but with items.
-
All right, I'll keep searching for a movie that interests me.
-
Or My Three Iotas.
-
I have to look at the ones I've saved recently.
-
I'm sure one of them will suffice.
-
Whatever happened to the Flying Wallendas?
-
It's like they dropped off the face of the earth. So to speak.
-
I have to call Robert Yacko now.
-
I still have some groceries to put away.
-
I just do.
PAGE NINE FROM OUTER SPACE
-
Is that page nine waiting in the wings?
-
See?
-
That was FAST.
-
Faster than a speeding bullet.
-
We are quick, here at HHW.
-
We have a reputation for being FAST.
-
Did I phrase that right?
-
Will people get the wrong impression?
-
OK. Now that we are safely on page nine,
-
Good night, friends.
-
And others.
-
Back from the housewarming party. People seemed to like the buche de Noel. I wasn’t thrilled with the frosting, but the cake and cream filling were excellent.
-
Most of it was eaten.
-
I came home and made a chocolate peppermint pudding pie for tomorrow night. That one was easy.
-
I would love to tell you that I am in complete heaven over all of this, but I cannot because of one thing: In order to actually use any of these great things, I need my Apple password. The only one I have a record of did not work as the system told me it was compromised. I would need a new password. I attempted to set one up and was directed to use my old phone to do this. My old phone directed me to use my new phone to do this. Once I tried that, i was told I provided insufficient information to change my password (I gave them what they asked for: My e-mail address and telephone number). I was then told I would need to wait several days while the system ensures the safety of my account.
What the fudge???
If none of this sorts out by Monday, I'm off to the Verizon store again.
Oh, my goodness! That's terrible! >:(
-
Be careful out there, DR John G.
I like the Brian Setzer Orchestra. I have a couple of their CDs and DVDs.
-
I did listen to The Nutcracker and the Mouse-King this morning. I knew the girl wasn’t Clara. It was changed for the ballet. It was Maria.
I'm now out in the lobby for the first act of The Nutcracker.
-
The prerecorded orchestra sounds really good. ;)
-
New iPhone update:
I kept futzing with this new phone, getting the same message over and over. It also told me calling Apple Support could not speed up the process of changing my password.
I then had a crazy idea: I used my HP laptop and logged into Apple.com. I followed its instructions about setting up a new password, which echoed everything my phone had told me to do. But, i tried one more time and a different password which i have no memory of assigning to Apple, and it worked. It "took".
I am not fully functional yet, because all my apps must complete their download now that the system knows it's "me".
Will keep you posted.
Huzzah!!
Watched an oldie called Star Witness. It was pretty hard hitting. I’m thinking it was pre-Hayes Code.
-
I am exhausted.
-
I think I need some sleep.
-
Good night, all.
-
Finished with my viewing.
Another horrible thriller, this one from 1987. One interesting plot twist doesn't make up for the endless absurdities, writing, directing.
-
Barely released.
-
I have a feeling page ten is waiting in the wings.
-
See?
-
Having some cheese and bits of salami as a snack.
-
Why shouldn't I?
-
Everybody has the right to some cheese.
-
Even me.
-
Even you.
-
Is it cheesy to like cheese?
-
If you're smart and like cheese, are you a cheese whiz?
-
I would not get a two door car again.
Me, neither. :P
DR FREDDIE I would never be interested in a movie called MY OLD ASS that stars two women.
I think DR ELMORE and I should be the titular stars.
Now, that I would pay to see! ;D
-
On another note.....several psychics have said that DJT will never be sworn in as Prezzident......and my own card readings and personal judgment say the same....
I don't know what will happen in the next 30 days....but we shall see.
From their (and your) lips....!!
-
Fun learning about the car. I'm finally getting used to where you put it in gear. I'll take some photos tomorrow. I thought this would have a backup camera, but unless I have to do something in settings, it doesn't seem to. When I take it to an indy Mercedes jernt I'll ask what that cost would be because it's something I'd like to have. And the place I found that gets great reviews is literally four blocks from here.
What year is the car? I thought that back-up cameras had been standard for several years. :-\
-
Looking forward to the photos of the NEW CAR.
Ditto!!
Just as I feared, the vice president-elect would become president.
But then, who would get the job if that person was also unable to be sworn in??
I had those chicken nuggets last night with my Burrito Supreme with extra beef, and I thought that they weren't too bad.
-
I probably would've liked them more if I hadn't had the Burrito Supreme with them. It was all too much for me after eating a LOT OF chips and dip during the card playing. :P
-
Today at my mom's (before I went downtown to work concessions for one of the several local productions of The Nutcracker), we had pizza from Costco. Quite delish!
-
I ordered plain as day three mild sauce packets. It wouldn't be a problem, but last week I tossed out all the extra sauce packets that were taking up too much room in the cupboard.
I have a bag in my kitchen with all the extra sauce packets that I've gotten. ;)
Tomorrow, my friend Shelly and I are taking our friend Margo to a local restaurant and then to the movies to see Wicked: Part 1 for Margo's birthday, which was last Wednesday!
