Well, you've read the notes, the notes reminisced about the Time Lady, and now it is Time for you to post until the Timely cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SARDANAPALIAN!
-
Welcome, 333 GUESTS.

-
Yup...last night I zonked out. ::)
-
Fourteen pages so far. I'll shower and try to do one more.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept rather well with many dreams, none of which I now remember.
-
I forgot to take care of my laundry card yesterday, so laundry day has been moved to tomorrow.
-
I've never seen a printed copy of "The Bells of Hell," but I knew the song from two wonderful Joan Littlewood productions, The Hostage and Oh, What a Lovely War!, but I cannot remember if it's sung in the 1969 film version. I first heard the song around 1965 on the original London cast recording of Oh, What a Lovely War!. It's also sung on the wonderful Columbia Records recording of The Hostage with Julie Harris.
-
Why oh why has the soundtrack recording of Oh, What a Lovely War! never been released on CD?
-
It's on iTunes, at least.
-
It says "Original London Cast," but the date is 1983. So perhaps that was a revival.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
.
-
I'm going to go cuddle up with my beans.
-
Monday morning greetings! We are snowbound and it’s snowing - again.
-
Same here DR GINNY.
Our county is under a Warning meaning only essential travel!
-
I shoveled the porch and sidewalk but NOT the driveway.....i would guess there's about six inches of the stuff- maybe a bit more.
-
Additional 1-3 inches today.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Is there an echo in here?
-
It says "Original London Cast," but the date is 1983. So perhaps that was a revival.
As far as I know, there are only two recordings: London cast and oundtrack.
-
We’re getting flurries.
No, actually, it’s a light snow. Still hoping for no accumulation to speak of.
If there is some, I shan’t speak of it.
-
I have the Hostage recording, but not that show or soundtrack.
-
And the word of the day is: SARDANAPALIAN!
I prefer anchovies to canned sardanapalians.
-
But what do I know?
-
Uno mas.
-
Two!

Last night's DVD-off-the-shelf draw was The Italian Job, another I'd never seen. The young Michael Caine, the older Noël Coward (definitely worth the price of admission), and a single-scene almost-a-cameo Rossano Brazzi. Amusing and entertaining enough, but I don't know if it has real repeat value.
-
The snow band has moved a little to the north and we're getting some. It still might not amount to much more than an inch, but I think it's going to be a little more than they'd forecast.
-
Re the Time Lady:
My earlier memories are from my early teens in Fort Lauderdale, and I'm pretty sure it was a local bank that sponsored the service. The voice would give a brief one-line blurb about the bank, then give the time.
My more solid memories are from L.A., in the late 70s and early 80s. As I recall, that was a purely time-of-day service, not a sponsored thing, and the message would update every ten seconds. "At the tone, the time will be eight-twenty and ten seconds (beep), at the tone, the time will be eight-twenty and twenty seconds (beep)," etc. You could listen to several of those, then it would hang up, but that would let OCD people like me set their newfangled prized Casio digital watch to EXACTLY the right time, and it was supposedly coordinated with the official time clocks in Colorado or Washington DC or such places. :)
-
Sorry about the snow, ChasSmith.
-
Snow safety vibes for those who need them.
-
I don't recall calling the Time Lady, but I remember Dial-a-Joke, which was quite entertaining.
-
But wait, there's more!
Once I really got into the habit of using the service, I learned that there was another number for brief weather updates. The phone number was similar enough that you could remember both of them easily. I have a 1984 South Bay phone book here (worth its weight in gold to me) that lists (213) 853-1212 for the time. I don't see the weather one, so some research is in order. But I think the -1212 was the same, with maybe only a one-number variation in the prefix.
I guess the So. California weather was such that you could do a one-sentence update and have it be accurate enough. :)
-
The 853- didn't sound familiar, but I've always remembered the -1212.
I also might be remembering this from a different area in L.A. I likely dialed it from Beverly Hills in the late 1970s and from West Hollywood in the late 1980s. Probably different prefixes.
-
.
Who would have guessed there was a Thank God It's Monday Day?
-
Maybe that would apply to actors and crew in shows that had Monday off after a 4-show weekend.
-
In other news:
January 6 State Of Emergency In Maryland For Record Snow Today And Maybe More To Follow
-
There are at least 8 inches of snow out here, and the roads are extremely treacherous.
The news at noon showed many car and bus accidents, and we have been strongly advised to not go out.
Lots of children on sleds in my parking lot, having lots of fun.
-
I, however, am not having fun.
Pretty sure that I will not be able to keep the very important appointment with the surgeon tomorrow, as everything is predicted to freeze over tonight.
-
Hi, Freddie!

Monday morning greetings! We are snowbound and it’s snowing - again.
Sorry.
-
I came up empty on a weather-info phone number as far as the 1984 Redondo Beach phone book is concerned. They list the time-of-day one in a few places but nada on weather.
-
Same here DR GINNY.
Our county is under a Warning meaning only essential travel!
Enjoy resting at home, not that you are truly resting when you need to shovel snow.

Do you need your driveway clear in order to go anywhere?

Never having experienced a sponsered time service I never knew one existed.

I liked calling the Time Lady to check my watch and clocks were acurate. I can't remember that I ever knew a number to call once we left California.

I just watched the certification of thew Electoral votes. It completely enrages me that in ywo weeks a fat incompetent felon will swear 0n a Bible that he will uphold the Constitution, which we all klnow is bullshit. Watching that fat piece of crap and his disgusting cronies is like watching a mafia movie starring the Three Stooges.

DR John I just read that your governor sent condolences Rosalynn Carter on the death of her husband. Had you read this?
Yet another sign of brilliance by Governor Abbott.
-
Here's the original full statement by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott:
"Cecilia and I mourn the loss of former President Jimmy Carter alongside millions of Americans across the country. Our nation remains the greatest beacon of freedom and opportunity in the world because of our fearless chief executives who are our guiding force through the best and worst of times. For that, we owe President Carter our enduring gratitude for his service as the 39th President of the United States. Having led a life marked by selfless service to the American people, President Carter leaves behind a great legacy as a husband, father, naval officer, governor, and Nobel prize winner, and he will be greatly missed by many. Cecilia and I send our prayers and deepest condolences to First Lady Rosalynn Carter and the entire Carter family."

I then wrote one page, had a telephonic conversation, went to the mail place and got the errant and truant package, got a Subway spicy Eyetalian sandwich for food, came home, ate the sandwich, and finally, at six, buckled down Winsocki and wrote without interruption until seven-thirty. Seven pages.
-
Took a break and now I'll try to do another five to seven by ten-thirty.
-
It must be done.
-
And I must be the one to do it.

Tonight at the botanical gardens
DR John G., those photos are incredible!
That’s something I would LOVE to experience.
-
There was an illuminated desert garden in Phoenix that I never missed over the holiday period when I lived there.
I see they have one this year that is so popular, it’s been extended through mid-March.
-
LIGHT BLOOM by HYBYCOZO is a limited-time exhibit where nature and light converge. This mesmerizing display invites you to explore the Garden transformed by stunning geometric light installations that illuminate the beauty of the desert landscape in a new way. As the sun sets, LIGHT BLOOM comes to life, casting intricate shadows and vibrant hues across the Garden. Wander the trails and let the enchanting installations transport you to a magical realm where the natural world meets the abstract.

Hmm…
I may have been thinking of ZOOLIGHTS at the Phoenix Zoo, which I loved.

New notes are written.
-
I wish more new pages had been written.
-
But I'll stay up until one and see how many more I can get done.
-
I'll shower now and get that out of the way. That is always in the way.
-
Shower is done.
-
We've been on this damn page far too long.
-
Of course, Georgy boy isn't here.
-
Of course, Georgy boy isn't here.
Uhh...yes, I am. ;D

Didn't do much of anything this evening.
-
But I'm still here.
-
The prodigal George shows up.
-
And even then, we're STILL on this damn page.
-
I had some leftover meatballs that I had gotten from my mom, so tonight, I heated those up with some spaghetti sauce and some cream cheese and just ate them. :)
-
Is there gaslighting going on?
-
See?
-
PAGE NINE DANCE!!
-
Enter page nine.
-
Just in the nick of time.
-
Just made it under the wire and over the rainbow.
-
I made too many meatballs, but I ate them all.
-
I'll post new notes right at midnight, so I can attempt to write two or three more pages.
-
One really must.
-
Otherwise, I shall go in the corner and flog myself like Judge Turpin.
-
Gratuitous Post #251!!
-
Here come the notes.

Any second now.
-
Otherwise, I shall go in the corner and flog myself like Judge Turpin.
Just don't cut the song...too many productions cut the song. ;)

Up are new notes.
