Well, you've read the notes, the notes and the earth stood still, and now it is time for you to post until the standing still cows come home.

And the word of the day is: TOME!

Topic of the Day: I've never thrown a dinner party at all. ::)

I don't know if I've even ever been to a real dinner party. :-\

Congrats to MR BK on finally getting that package.
-
Why am I up so early?
-
The next three nights will be subzero temperatures.
Fun.
-
I don't think I have ever thrown a dinner party.....ours are more get togethers or pitch ins.
I have been to a couple of fancy dinner parties.....but I don't remember the menu.
-
Good morning, all!
-
This is definitely laundry day.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
We used to throw dinner parties all the time.
-
Not so much in recent years.
-
Fun song link, DR Rodzinski.
-
Thanks for sharing those photos, DR John G.
-
Sorry it was so cold.

I wonder if anyone ever tried to make a bobblehead out of tempura?
-
:)
-
Finished shoveling the driveway as soon as I saw some light.....then got all three trash bags into the bin that I had taken down to the curb yesterday.
Had some in the bin on the deck but I decided I may as well get it all out at once.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Driveway stayed clear all night, thank gawd.
-
It’s laundry day here, too.
-
More coffee!
-
I can probably skip laundry until next week.

I made some glop today - in spite of my diet.

Glop sounds like it must be really tasty!

TOD: If you define dinner party loosely as any gathering where dinner is served (as opposed to open house type parties where people come and go), I think the biggest dinner party people-wise would be one which involved HHW people. I believe fried chicken and deviled eggs were somewhere on the menu. Maybe also shrimp and franks in a blanket appetizers?

Possibly interesting development regarding Facebook/Meta.

Good morning.

DR Iris, Botanical Garden does luminarias along the paths during December. Phoenix Zoo does Zoo Lights.
We've gone to Zoo Lights in the past; this year the family was sick most of December.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I used to have dinner parties for Noche de los Rabanos. People would bring in various radish dishes (or not). I would make enough food for 30 and that’s about how many came one year. I can’t handle that anymore. I would usually order a smoked turkey and do up a half dozen appetizers like beer cheese, raw radish ravioli, shrimp salad, deviled eggs and the like. There were are plenty of desserts. I remember a friend making a lamb curry with radishes. Another friend made radish sculptures. Plenty of wine. It was fun.
-
Bronx Zoo has a really nice holiday lights festival, but we haven't gone to it since way before the pandemic. We're planning on it next year.
Kristi and Nathan worked it one year, helping to put up lights.
-
My glop is one box of bowtie pasta or rotini - whichever one is closet to its use by date.
I chop up a green pepper and put it in a skillet then add one or two pounds of ground beef......I didn't have a one pound package so I had to use the two pound one.
I add about four thick slices of Velveeta to the drained pasta and a few slices of American cheese.....then I add the meat and then top if off with some Manwich and stir it up real good......and I'm good until probably Friday.

Wow. Manwich, too?
This is sounding like my kind of comfort food.

I guess we’re going to JRand’s for lunch.

I'm hosting a gathering tonight. The speaker is going to speak about big cats: lions, tigers, panthers, bobcats, etc.

So you know I've got my leopard-spotted dishes out.

From DR Iris:
I am a towering 4 feet 11 3/4 inches.
I wasn't that tall when I first met Bruce in high school. I entered at 4 feet 10 inches. When I graduated I was 5 feet 2 1/2 inches.
I grew a bit more after I was married and made it to 5 feet 3 1/4 inches. Keith laughed at my always says that quarter inch so it made me smile to see you do not round out your heighth :)
I'm now 5 feet 3 inches.
-
I liked Gelson's which opened after we left LA.

DR John the photos of the botanical gardens are beautiful.

I have been texting with Keith's cousin as her brother put up photos of himself spraying around a home (he has been working there) using a fire hose. There haven't been any new photos of videos from him on FB so we hope he has evacuated the area.
-
The Santa Ana winds are fuming the fire :(
-
Hi cousin isn't going anywhere for now. He said he just saved two houses from burning. I think as long as the owner is there he will stay at the house and continue to water the area down.
-
I was just reminded it's been 2 years today since we lost Danise, such a sweet soul. With such a hard life.
I miss her.

That fire looks scary DR JANE.

I'm glad that I had been communicating with DR Danise the last months and weeks. I last wrote her on January 7th and never heard back from her. Then her good friend sent me a message :(
-
That fire looks scary DR JANE.
Very scary and it is right up to the house he is at.

OMG, the current video shows Keith's cousin standing on one side of a stone wall spraying flames on the other side. And he put them out!

I think it would have been a great combo - come in and get your marijuana gummies and have a piece of pie!

If your pet dog or cat eats a roll of paper towels, you can nickname them "The Bounty Hunter."

Seeing glimpses of the various Armed Forces in connection with President Carter's lying in state at the Capitol, I think we should all sing a round of "Semper Supra," the theme song of the Space Force.

SEMPER SUPRA
The Official U.S. Space Force Song
We're the mighty watchful eye,
Guardians beyond the blue,
The invisible front line,
Warfighters brave and true.
Boldly reaching into space,
There's no limit to our sky.
Standing guard both night and day,
We're the Space Force from on high.

Obviously.

That's something, DR Jane.
It is.

Glop would be the perfect thing tonight.
-
Keith got Wordle in 4.
-
As of 23 minutes ago the cousin is still posting so I guess he is alive ::) I feel bad for his sister who tried to get him to leave this morning.
-
I finally heard back from my brother who hadn't seen my message earlier. So far my nephew is ok and hasn't received orders to evacuate. Hopefull they will get the fire out before that happens. Wisely he took his dog, along with a friend and his dogs, to his mother's house. One less thing to worry about if they have to evacuate.
-
Yay, the cousin has left. Someone tagged a photo on FB showing that he made the news with a photo of him on the street with a person I am guessing is the owner of the house. It is possible they were forced to leave.

That's a relief!
-
Thank you it is. Between the smoke and Santa Ana winds I hope he hasn't damaged his lungs.
-
One year we were in LA during the Santa Ana Winds. If I had realized the danger of eating outside at a restaurant patio I would have eaten inside. I got terribly sick.
-
Page four? Really?
-
Not very sporting.
-
Had a nice breakfast, got a couple of items from Gelson's and then came home.
-
Page five? Really?
-
Once home, I began futzing and finessing, which really took a long time to get things where they needed to be. As I got to the last two pages I'd written I wasn't happy with the a timeline again. So, I had to completely rethink everything involving a character I was introducing. I tried three different timeline adjustments but in researching them for the details I needed, realized they, too, weren't going to work. That wasted a lot of time - the research part.

Better to have realized the problem early, though, isn't it?
-
Then it finally hit me how to do it, and that actually made everything work. But it took more research. But I got it done and ended a chapter and began another. So, basically, if I can get five or eight pages done before I leave, then I can probably do more when I get home. For now, Muse Margaret will be getting 110 pages.
-
One of the other things that occasionally slows me down is that when I start up on a new character, I get very involved with the personality of the character and the way they speak and so there was that, too.
-
Back to work.
-
I’ve started to take down the Christmas decorations.
-
It will take time.
-
Because I am now taking a break to watch The Fabulous Baron Munchausen.
-
So different from Terry Gilliam’s version, which I also love.
-
But the animation heavily influenced Gilliam’s work for Monty Python’s Flying Circus.

Paying property taxes. Yuck.

Today has been a long one.

Power is good.
-
A ginormous eagle-type bird has just made off with the Baron and dropped him into the sea, where he’s riding around with the fishes.
-
We just received a call from Keith's cousin letting us know her brother is on his way home. Not surprisingly there is lots of traffic so it is taking a long time.
-
I'll bet.
-
One to grow on.
-
Glad friends and loved ones are safe thus far.

It's nothing to mess about with.

In my opinion.

Good night, friends.

Congratulations John in your lofty new spot in the HHWheights
-
We had breakfast for dinner tonight
-
I made breakfast potatoes, sliced new potatoes bubbling in ( probably too much) butter with chopped green and red peppers and shallots
-
Broiled Campari tomatoes
-
Thick cut ham slices ( cooked over the top of the potatoes)
-
And some lovely steamed eggies
-
And of course a hot pot of tea
-
Stopped and visited WFO on the way home from work
-
Our trip to see wicked is on hold due to the terrible cold
-
I’m not liking this Wilder film so far, except for Marlene Dietrich. I guess I don’t like movies about Republicans who are irritating.

DR Iris, Botanical Garden does luminarias along the paths during December. Phoenix Zoo does Zoo Lights.

Hi, Iris! Great to see you.
Hi, John G.!
Love your photos!
-
Thinking of you DR Iris.
Very kind of you, Jane.
Much appreciated.
-
Have been following news coverage of the horrible fires in Pacific Palisades.
-
Jane, sending mega vibes for your family and friends who live there.
-
Have decided not to complain about our weather, as it’s nothing compared to what is happening in Southern California.
-
Saw the surgeon today.
Clear margins, but I will need to start radiation therapy for 6 weeks, 5 days per week.
-
Radiation doesn’t scare me, as I was married to a radiation oncologist for 22 years, and am very familiar with the procedure and side effects, which are nothing compared to chemotherapy and surgery.
Very glad that part is over.

I appreciate all of you so much!! ❤️

I haven't been out since Sunday. I think there's about 6 inches of snow, but the icy roads are the worst part.
KevinH, I hope your roads are cleared by now.
I was very nervous on my drive to see my doctor today, but they’ve done a great job here in the Baltimore suburbs.
-
Good night, all.

I could use some major vibes for my nephew that he has a home to return to.
-

Excellent.
-
My nephew got out with his dog and nothing else. He is at my brother's. His children at his sister. His wife was at work and I think joining him later.
-
What a crazy day this has been in every way. We're having an insane wind storm - huge trees toppled over blocking streets, certain sections evacuated. Driving to the theater was a little nuts.
-
After I told Muse Margaret she'd have pages in the morning, I decided to rewrite that same problem section for the fifth time because I still didn't think the timeline was right. This time, I really solved it and it involved a LOT of rewriting, but it's really good now, I think. Overall, I added about three pages.
-
The casting session was pretty well attended actually, which has not been my experience prior to this in any of the other shows I've done.
-
I can definitely use people who were there tonight. But we still have a lot of folks to see in about a week and a half at the next session.
-
Now my brother might have to evacuate :(
-
I got home as quickly as I could when we wrapped.
-
I finished the rewriting - took about fifty minutes and now, finally, I can move on to the next chapter and try to get at least five or ten pages done before bed.
-
Just as I was finishing up, the Internet went down.
-
But I now know how to get around it, by using the iPhone's hot spot and that's what I'm on now.
-
It looks like the Internet just came back up. Let's see.
-
Yep.
-
Whew.
-
More writing now.
-
Ah, the page that shall not be named.
-
I hope he doesn't, Jane.
-
Pasadena is evacuating.
-
It's really something.
-
I say BE GONE wind.

We don't need this aggravation.

We really don't.

Today was a day!

My niece too my mom to a procedure today (endoscopy...I don't know exactly why) and while there, my mom had a "heart incident." :o
-
MOST fortunately, the place was only one block away from St. Peter Hospital, and coincidentally, it's where my mom used to work!
-
My niece too my mom to a procedure today (endoscopy...I don't know exactly why) and while there, my mom had a "heart incident." :o
Oh no!
-
They were able to get her to the ER and do whatever they needed to do to make her heart beat regularly (they had to put her under for that)!
-
And do some other procedure, but everything worked our fine! WHEW!!
-
Are we still on this old page?
-
Glad everything worked out fine.
-
We brought her home, and she's feeling fine. Very scary at the time.
-
DR George best wishes your dear mother will be ok.
-
Except for page nine. That did not work out fine.
-

Thank goodness.

New notes are up.

At first, I was going to stay overnught...just in case...but she said that she didn't need me to stay.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.

Very scary.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.

Right.

-
In the middle.
-
We all went to the hospital when this happened, but there was nothing for us to do, so we left until I was able to pick her up.
-
Step to the rear.
-
Is page nine waiting in the wings.
-
See?
-
After I brought her home, we all played a couple of games of Sorry...not Phase 10, surprisingly!
-
And I won both games! ;D
-
We all ate some mini pizzas that my mom got at Costco, played Sorry, then we all went to our respective homes (and mom stayed at hers).
That was my day, today.
