Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a little Sondheim music, and now it is time for you to post until the Sondheim cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: QUALITY!
-
Wordle 1,306 4/6
🟨⬜⬜⬜⬜
⬜🟨⬜⬜⬜
⬜⬜🟩🟨🟩
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
-
Love Sondheim's contributions in the notes, BK!
-
My computer is still restarting! :o What's taking it so long??
-
Finished the fifteen pages.
-
Showered and almost ready for bed.
-
Have to rinse with warm saltwater then brush them teeth.
-
Page one?
-
Really?
-
Just kidding.
-
1 degree with -6 feels like.....headed for 18 degrees.
-
DR FREDDIE yes MR BK explained the peplum movies. So called because of the costumes most of the leading men wore were similar to the peplums on women's jackets.

-
I watched Mark Forest - my favorite - in The Terror of Rome Against the Son of Hercules and Alan Steel in Hercules Against the Moon Men.
-
My sister Molly told me about a new free streaming channel called Classico.
I downloaded it to my tv......she says good movies.....no commercials....but I haven't watched anything on it yet....I may check it out later this afternoon.
-
I do have a home health visit scheduled for today.....we shall see what happens.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I spent the late afternoon and evening dreading another round of bad health, and fortunately nothing bad occurred. Then I surprisingly slept well. Stella slept at my feet, Annabelle had her princess pillow, and Thatch cuddled next to me. DR Laura was so right in 21017 when she predicted that he would end up being Daddy's boy.
-
The much-needed laundry will have to wait till tomorrow. The trash/tote bag on my walker needs to be emptied, so that's today's taks. Laundry must wait till tomorrow when the bag can hold the laundry and supplies.
-
The iTunes mess continues, but I am almost through the B's now.
-
Yesterday my lab results from Monday came in. My glucose levels are high, which I'm blaming on Christmas goodies, but my A1C, which I suspected would be off the chart, was not.
-
:D

That's so interesting! Thanks, Jrand!

Good news about your A1C!

Love Sondheim's contributions in the notes, BK!
Yes, really terrific and funny!
-
Good morning, friends.

And others.

PAGE TWO!!
-
I'll eat a bagel and I'll eat strawberry ice cream.
-
But I won't eat my hat.
-
Does anyone still wear a hat?
-
I'll eat humble pie.
-
Good news from DR elmore3003.
-
~~~VIBES~~~ for your home visit today, DR Jrand74.
-
Really enjoyed hearing (and seeing) about your night, DR John G. Yum!
-
I am also curious about your least favorite food on the planet
-
Good morning, all.
-
Let the record show that I just paid some ugly bills.
There are even uglier ones coming later, but that's it for today.
-
These bills are definitely unattractive.
-
They're quite homely.
-
And I've seen better legs on grand pianos.
-
You could put lipstick on these bills, and it wouldn't help.
-
These bills could stop a train.
-
I'd heard a few days ago that yesterday was to be National Hot Pastrami Day, and I'd intended to honor it but it got completely away from me.
-
I do, at least, have a couple of bagels here, with which I shall honor National Bagel Day.
-
Thanks DR FREDDIE and DR singdaw....we shall see after 3 p.m.
-
Glad you are doing better DR ELMORE.
-
It is 2 degrees here.....TWO DEGREES!
-
In vino veritas
-
I am sad for folks who HAVE to get out in this weather.
-
For many decades I was one of them.
-
It is 2 degrees here.....TWO DEGREES!
How most appropriate for page two!
-
Soon to be page three.
-
With just a few more posts.
-
All it takes is words.
-
One more.
-
PAGE THREE!!!
-
Loved the Sondheim parodies in today's Notes.
-
Really enjoyed hearing (and seeing) about your night, DR John G. Yum!
Those were such great food photos, John G!
-
I do, at least, have a couple of bagels here, with which I shall honor National Bagel Day.
You're fast approaching 37,000 posts, so today could also be a Millstone Day (maybe).
Page Three and now it is Three Degrees Here with NO Separation.
Iris, do you have a screen name in the New York Times reader comments?
-
Good morning, all.
-
Wonderful resurrection of Mr. Sondheim in today's notes.
-
I am also curious about your least favorite food on the planet
Yogurt.
-
I generally have a gag reflex as soon as a spoon of it goes into my mouth
-
Iris, do you have a screen name in the New York Times reader comments?
Yes, I do.
Sondheimgirl
-
I posted there frequently at one point, but not lately.
-
Freddie, there were a few times that you and I replied to each other. 😊
-
I am also curious about your least favorite food on the planet
Yogurt.
Ah, so it’s Nogurt for you.
-
Loved the Sondheim parodies in today's Notes.
So did I!
-
“Taco shells made from the crust underneath paella filled with hominy and avocado.”
John G., I love the way this was plated.
Are those resting on a bed of coffee beans?
-
DR Elmore, glad you’re feeling better this morning.
-
Freddie, there were a few times that you and I replied to each other. 😊
:) Hope it was always friendly! Did we ever chat about Sondheim in the Times comments?
-
LOL, now I'm probably going to spend lunch time trying to find any old Times comments to sondheimgirl!
-
“Taco shells made from the crust underneath paella filled with hominy and avocado.”
John G., I love the way this was plated.
Are those resting on a bed of coffee beans?
Uncooked black beans. Yes, I think that is one of my best food photos. Thank you.
-
Iris, did we already know each other on HHW back when you were posting in the Times comments?
-
My search of my Times comments isn't coming up with anything for sondheimgirl, but it's fun seeing some of the old posts over the years!
Well, if we ever did disagree in the Times comments, just remember I didn't realize that you were Iris from HHW! :)
-
So I still have time for lunch: I'm getting a McDonald's burger and a Filet-o-Fish, and calling it surf 'n' turf.
-
For what it's worth, the crunchy layer at the bottom of paella is call socarrat. It can't be burnt and it can't be too loose. It's an important part of judging a paella competition.
Decided to go out this afternoon for the Covid booster. I'd intended to do it back in the late fall, then my schedule went crazy and then Nathan had Covid a few weeks ago so I had to let that pass. But it's ketchup time around here, and I'm getting that this afternoon.
I still need to get the shingles vax and I'll probably get the RSV, too. But I'm doing them one at a time. I know you can stack 'em, and DR Elmore just did two of them successfully, but if I'm to have any reaction at all (usually a day of mild fatigue), I just want to know which one was responsible.
Smart. I had RSV, covid and flu at the same time last year, and one definitely knocked me out.
-
Or maybe it was the cocktail of all three.
-
I'm up, I'm up - six and a half hours of sleep.
-
Or maybe it was the cocktail of all three.
I should think it could easily be that, even if each one taken individually wouldn't have had any effect on you.
-
Freddie, there were a few times that you and I replied to each other. 😊
:) Hope it was always friendly! Did we ever chat about Sondheim in the Times comments?
Always friendly!
I know that there was a comment that I made that was published on the date that Sondheim passed away, where you and another reader responded.
I stopped submitting comments after several unpleasant altercations regarding the October 7 massacre in Israel. I am the daughter of Holocaust survivors, and many of my surviving relatives live in Israel.
I guess it didn't come up in my search because I didn't refer directly to your screen name in my comment.
Should I tempt fate and ask if we ever chatted on All That Chat (Talkin' Broadway)? (which is where I was all gaga about actually conversing with Bruce Kimmel! I didn't realize then that he'd met Skip years earlier)
-
I read All That Chat, but I’ve never posted there. Way too much drama for me!
It's not cold today, but it's cold.
-
gratuitous post 100!
Listening to a biography of physicist Roger Penrose, who revolutionized the theory of relativity. It's called The Impossible Man. I don't know that I understand everything it's about, but it's a fascinating story of a genius who doesn't quite fit in. He's British, but taught at UT Austin at the time of the Kennedy assassination. San Antonio is even mentioned once or twice.
-
Good to see the regular posts of Iris around here. Livens up the joint!
-
Note to George, my cc company informed me they judged in my favor regarding the fraud “Tower Records-Big Lots” purchase. So I was refunded. I assume you did not receive any of what you ordered. Let your cc company know, and I’d suggest replacing that card.
I don't know how successful since I definitely had a reaction to shingles or Covid. I may hold off on the hepatitus until March when I get shinglews #2.
My neighbor Mark, the jazz pianist, is a nice guy but a pain in the ass. Judy sent him over for a request and he stupidly let Stella out. Now I have to go find her. God damn it.
-
Well, I opened the door to step out and Stella walked right in. The least Mark could have done is retrieve her. He and Judy have three cats.
-
Thank you DR Freddie I am relieved the appointment went well.
-
Thank you DR George.
-
Thanks Bruce.
-
I had an appointment with a new ENT doctor Keith had raved about. He was right and she was excellent.
I was concerned my issue might be cancer but all was good :)
Yesterday I forgot to report that Keith got Wordle in three.
From DR John:
I’m feeling fat and happy.
I am glad you enjoyed your dinner.
-
John what was your least favorite food on the planet that you ate? I see DR George already asked ;D
-
I do have a home health visit scheduled for today.....we shall see what happens.
Good luck!
Good afternoon.
-
I have been out camping in the desert. Leonard is glad I am home.
-
Elmore, I'm glad I was right about Thatch. Joshie took a long time before he decided I was the best thing in the world. A couple of years. He was the best cat I ever had.
-
Leonard loves me. He loves me when he wants to love me. But Joshie was in my lap any time I sat down.
:( My dad is also a Holocaust survivor, and my Mom is a Holocaust refugee (got out of Germany on a boat at age 8 but lost her family in Germany). That's why I feel it's even more treacherous that my brother and his wife (the Macbeths of Cranford NJ) destroyed our family over control of our parents' estate. Their lawyers destroyed a Holocaust family Hitler couldn't destroy; I sincerely hope their lawyers are proud of being Hitler's clean-up squad.
Iris, I am pretty surprised the Times comment moderators let the back and forth get to such a level, to the level of an altercation. The Times comment moderators are usually more careful than that, aren't they?
But why let it stop you from posting comments in Theater or Metro about other topics?
DR Iris does your family in Israel live near where the attacks are and the people have to get in their shelters?
-
My family is fine, however, I have a friend that deals with this.
-
I am also curious about your least favorite food on the planet
Yogurt.
I like yogurt.
-
Do you have the same issue with similar foodstuffs like sour cream? Or is that different enough to not produce the same result?
Not that most people eat sour cream like they eat yogurt. ::)
Thanks for the info, Rodzinski. Nothing else untoward has appeared on my card, but I guess I really should deal with this. ::)
Fortunately Israel is good at intercepting ballistic missiles. This is what remained after a recent interception. This is not my friend's house.
The new governor of Indiana has ordered that all flags be flown at full staff for the inauguration.
Looks like they will be flown at full staff everywhere.
From NPR:
Flags will be flown at full-staff on Jan. 20 for Donald Trump's inauguration as president, despite an order from President Biden to lower the flags to half-staff in remembrance of the late President Jimmy Carter.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, a Republican, announced the decision to raise the flags to full staff in a message on X, writing: "On January 20th, the flags at the Capitol will fly at full-staff to celebrate our country coming together behind the inauguration of our 47th President, Donald Trump."
The flags will be lowered back to half-staff the following day to continue honoring President Jimmy Carter."
-
While I personally would prefer to see them at half-staff during the inaguaration I get it.
News update:
Among other provisions in the ceasefire, the Hamas delegation agreed to release 33 Israeli hostages being held in Gaza, dead and alive, in exchange for the release of 1,000 Palestinian prisoners.
The agreement will begin on Sunday, Jan. 19 and roll out in phases. The first phase of the deal, which would take place over six weeks, would include the release of the 33 Israeli hostages, as well as an undetermined number of the 1,000 Palestinian prisoners.
Met with a set designer - a young gal - liked her very much and we've hired her.
-
Picked up a small package at the mail place.
-
Got Popeye's for food - two mild breasts.
-
Home and eating.
-
Will resume writing in twenty minutes and will go to at least six or six-thirty. I must get seven pages done by then.
-
My home health visit has been postponed until Friday at 11:30 a.m.
Hoping that postponement works for you, Jrand.
Yes, hoping that postponing is fine with you.
Apparently, there is a ceasefire and hostage deal on the table.
I’ve been saying for some time that the hostages will be released on the day that Trump is inaugurated, as was the case with the Iranian hostages when Reagan was sworn in.
We shall see.
Fingers crossed it is before then.
There will only be 33 hostages released, according to reports, and only 23 confirmed to be alive. 😢
:(
That great, BK!
News update:
Among other provisions in the ceasefire, the Hamas delegation agreed to release 33 Israeli hostages being held in Gaza, dead and alive, in exchange for the release of 1,000 Palestinian prisoners.
The agreement will begin on Sunday, Jan. 19 and roll out in phases. The first phase of the deal, which would take place over six weeks, would include the release of the 33 Israeli hostages, as well as an undetermined number of the 1,000 Palestinian prisoners.
:(
-
Ah, the page that shall not be named.
-
Still haven't started writing - keep getting diverted and must now stop all that.
-
But the good news is I've cast our leading lady.
-
Congrats!
-
Before I forget to mention it, Keith got Wordle in three today.
Good for Keith!
Can Page Seven be named
-
if we're really close to Page Eight?
-
Page Eight!
-
Can Page Seven be named
Yes. I think we should name page seven Rupert...because why not? ;D
-
A dollop of Greek yogurt topped with something called blood orange sashimi and nestled in a lemon sauce.
-
Can Page Seven be named
Yes. I think we should name page seven Rupert...because why not? ;D
I like Rupert.
-
Reminds me of Robert DeNiro's character in King of Comedy.
That's possible, too.
Or Rupert Holmes.
This feels like a theater world shocker. Had anyone ever heard anything but good things about Casey Nicholaw?
Today was a day.
Open Enrollment is over. But it was hell getting there.
-
Watching the rest of Marriage Story. But I still have 26 minutes to go. And it's hard.
-
I wash my hands of it.
-
Open Enrollment is over. But it was hell getting there.
Glad you survived it.
-
Good night, friends.
And others.
Congratulations on getting through it, singdaw!
Starting an early Billy Wilder, Five Graves to Cairo. I think I have seen this, but it’s been years.
-
In the beginning, Franchot Tone is delirious. He doesn’t make sense, but he does mention the Lambeth Walk.
Lambeth, you’ve never seen.
Your skies aren’t blue.
Your grass ain’t green.
I dozed off for an hour, which I did NOT want to do.
-
But I've done seven pages so far and am probably in the last thirty-five to forty pages of the book.
-
Muse Margaret called and once again had zero notes and loved all the new pages. The one little sequence I mentioned the other day as a gift from above, was her favorite thing in this batch of pages.
-
I need a short break and I'll resume writing at nine.
-
I do feel that page nine is waiting in the wings.
-
See?
-
I can't find any of the German comedies and musicals that Billy Wilder wrote in the 1930s before immigrating to Paris, then the U.S. I figure if YouTube doesn't have them, they probably aren't available.
Happy news indeed.
-
Starting a Boris Karloff zombie flick called The Walking Dead. Edmund Gwenn co-stars. Michael Curtiz directs. It has a fun premise. But I can't stay awake for it all tonight.
I have been out camping in the desert. Leonard is glad I am home.
How nice, Laura!
Where did you camp?
What kinds of wildlife and birds did you see?
-
I am very fond of hummingbirds, quail, cardinals, roadrunners, woodpeckers, warblers, and every color finch.
I raised families of quail in my yard when we lived in Phoenix.
The babies running after their mom are really adorable.
-
But the good news is I've cast our leading lady.
That is very good news!
-
Good night, all.
-
But first ...
-
Ten!
-
I can't count obviously.
-
I guess it's because I am sleeping.
-
Toodles.
-
Ten pages so far, so I can definitely do five more after I post the notes.
-
I have another eye doctor appointment on Monday morning. The eye surgeon wants a few tests that he's not equipped to do - he's thinking depending on the results, we might not have to go the MRI route, and I'm all for THAT.
-
I'll write some damn notes soon enough.
Maybe there needs to be a HHW Parody Contest! ;)
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
I wanted some soup, but there are no jernts serving soup this late.
-
Damn them, damn them all to HELL.
-
I has spoken.
-
I really has.
-
I do feel that page ten is waiting in the wings.
-
See?
