Well, you've read the notes, the notes were perfectly Frank, and now it is time for you to post until the Loesser cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BLOOMING!
-
Welcome, 200 GUESTS!
-
And now, sans soup, back to writing.
-
I could have popcorn.
-
But I don't want popcorn.
-
I could have an egg and cheese burrito,
-
But I don't really want an egg and cheese burrito and I don't want dirty damn dishes.

BK, do you ever buy any frozen breakfast burritos? I've gotten some (I forget which brands) and have enjoyed them. I also use paper plates, so I don't have any dirty damn dishes. ;)

Loved the Frank Loesser lyrics!

How about Charles Strouss some time?

Loved the Frank Loesser lyrics!
So did I!
-
Good night, George.

Good morning, friends.

And others.

I am, indeed, without a scalpel.
-
Sad to say.
-
I'm also without a song.

LOL!

The last hour has been a bit crazy here, with all three cats bouncing off the walls. It must be "Let's drive Daddy mad" day and no one bothered to warn me. Now that they've had their breakfast, things seem to have settled down.
-
This is laundry morning, so I'll be heading to the basement soon.

Yes, the Loesser lyrics were really wonderful!

TOD:
Stephen Schwartz
Andrew Lloyd Webber
Rodgers and Hammerstein
Lerner and Loewe

Wonderful choices! (Although Rodgers and Hammerstein has been done). I would add:
Boubil & Schonberg
The Gershwins
Rodgers & Hart
Bock & Harnick
Cole Porter
Comden & Green
Lionel Bart
Meredith Willson
Leonard Bernstein

Fig Newton Day sounds like a great breakfast idea!

I wonder if Olivia Newton-John ever ate a fig newton.

Another suggestion for the TOD: The Notes in the style of the writers of GREASE
-
Or the writers of HAIR, for that matter
-
The Loesser notes were great!
-
I must cook something today - so I am trying to make a choice.

The last season of Leave It To Beaver is on ME Tv now......probably my least favorite. Beaver is more of an annoyance than fun.

The last season is your least favorite season, or the show in general?

A few to add to the lists:
Irving Berlin
Yip Harburg
Carolyn Leigh
Dorothy Fields
Hal David
Paul Simon
Neil Diamond
Bob Merrill

TOD
Could be expanded to include songwriters like:
Barry Manilow
John Lennon
Paul McCartney
Carole King
Elton John
Bob Dylan
James Taylor
Billy Joel

DR Iris, there was no wildlife. It's so dry here the birds have moved on.

Doing fine, post-vax. But there was something slightly different in the way she jabbed me yesterday, and I have to think that that "variable" has much to do with how we feel, or don't feel, soreness later. My arm was definitely "tender" during the night, and is still that way. It's no biggie at all, but it's noticeable. I often don't feel anything after a jab unless I literally press on the site, and that's definitely not the case this time.
-
Drove by BJ's yesterday, and noticed that the price of gas which had been stable at $2.54/$2.69 for MANY WEEKS with only a penny or two variation, had suddenly shot up to $2.61/$2.76.
-
Just the last season DR FREDDIE.
-
I watched three movies on Classico last night:
Giant of Metropolis
Duel of the Titans
The Misadventures of Merlin Jones.
There are indeed NO commercials, no sign up, just search your Roku apps and download.
Not sure how they show Disney movies and lots of musicals....weird. I guess I will enjoy it while it lasts.
The first two peplum movies were in W I D E S C R E E N and had the best prints I had ever seen.
-

Super bizarre unsold comedy pilot starring that great comic actor Pat Boone.

TOD: Lots of great suggestions already, to which I would add:
- Mel Brooks
- Tom Jones
- Bertolt Brecht
- Adler & Ross
-
DR Singdaw congratulations on the end of Open Enrollment.
-
DR Iris we had quail in Ashland. We called them the stupid birds because they would run across our long dirt road right in front of our cars. We found the large family groups very sweet and enjoyed watching them.
-
DR Bruce, vibes you do not need the MRI. Where are you going for the extra tests?

Yeah he’s unpleasant. And it didn’t help they were making him act like a six-year-old even though he was like junior high age.

I wonder if I even saw the last season or two of Beaver. It feels strange to even wonder that, because we watched the show religiously from the very start.
My parents always claimed I looked like the Beav back at the beginning, and I know that the slight resemblance was greatly exaggerated, but it was also a favorite show then. It's funny, remembering it from 1957-58 is easy, but I think about where we were in 1962-63 and what we were into then, and I'm not so sure we were still watching.
-
I'm up, I'm up - not too many hours of not enough sleep.
-
As soon as I'm coherent, I'll futz and finesse.
-
Leave It To Beaver moved from CBS in its first season for ABC for five more.
The music got a lot jazzier as it went along. And in the last season during the credits at the end of the show Beaver and Wally got into a fight.....

I don't really need a lot, but since we are going to be below zero all next week.....I'll stock up.

They had songs in AIN'T TOO PROUD and MOTOWN: THE MUSICAL.
I assume those retroactively count as show music.

I futzed and finessed and made a ton of little adjustments, which I knew I'd have to do. That took awhile, then I wrote a half a new page.
-
Then I did the smart thing - got back into bed and just rested for an hour, got a good idea, not sure I slept but it really helped.
-
Now I shall write for the next hour.
-
The meeting at the theater is at four - that gives me a LOT of time to kill after but it would be silly to go back home.
-
I'll have food, but I would love to have another hour of writing, but that will have to happen after the casting session.
-
I have just finished what is considered the worst Billy Wilder of them all, Buddy Buddy. It was not good. But I enjoyed it more than any of Ray Walston’s scenes in Kiss Me, Stupid.
-
I made another Wilder YouTube find: Music in Air. It’s a clumsy musical that doesn’t do entirely right by the Hammerstein-Kern source. Wilder worked on the script under the name Billie.
And it’s his first picture with Gloria Swanson, many years before Sunset Boulevard.

~~~AUDITION VIBES~~~ for tonight for BK & Company
Good afternoon.
For today's entertainment ......
-
..... I set the air fryer on fire.
-
Oh no!
-
How did you do that and is everything ok?
-
What a feat, Laura!
-
Air fryer flambe.
-
I have been reading Charlotte Greenwood’s bio of Billy Wilder. There’s not much depth, but she has quotes from everyone. Ginger Rogers does not come off well.
-
..... I set the air fryer on fire.
Oh no, Laura, are you OK?
-
Ginger Rogers only comes off well in her own autobiography.
There is the apocryphal story of Gower Champion walking out of a Hello Dolly! put in rehearsal and meeting Hermes Pan on the street in NYC.
Champion: Why didn't you tell me?
Pan: I thought you knew.
-
DR JOHN G I have a book about Billy Wilder written by Charles Brackett which is most entertaining.
-
I thought it was seven a.m. and just realized it is seven p.m.
What a world.
-
Not quite sure what happened. But I discovered it right away.
-
By the way, the smoke alarm in the dining room doesn't work.
-
Do you have the air fryer in the dining room?
-
..... I set the air fryer on fire.
Ay yi yi!
TOD Part II: Wait, how could I have missed Lin-Manuel Miranda?
Every Day a Little Death: Crime Fiction Inspired by the Songs of Stephen Sondheim
editor: Josh Pachter
publisher: Level Best Books
publication date: March 22, 2025
Releasing on the ninety-fifth anniversary of Stephen Sondheim’s birth, Every Day a Little Death will be the eighth volume in editor Josh Pachter’s award-winning “inspired by” anthology series, following collections inspired by the songs of Joni Mitchell, Jimmy Buffett, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, the Beatles, and the Grateful Dead … and the films of the Marx Brothers.
The book will feature twenty short crime stories, each inspired by a song from one of Sondheim’s twenty musicals (including the made-for-TV Evening Primrose and the final show, Here We Are). The contributors are a mix of established crime writers and members of the theater community who are tackling crime fiction for the first time, and the resulting stories seamlessly blend crime fiction with Sondheimian themes (and include a wealth of Easter eggs for those intimately familiar with Sondheim’s work to discover).
