Well, you've read the notes, the notes were happy, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: INIMITABLE!
-
Welcome, 440 GUESTS!
-
Home and in bed.
-
Good night, all.

Notes started. Finished.

It's 26°F right now in Tumwater.

TOD: The Towering Inferno
I remember seeing that, and The Poseidon Adventure and Airport on TV when I was a kid. Those were probably my earliest.

I remember that both Deep Impact and Armageddon, which were both about asteroids in a direct collision course with Earth, were released within a couple of months of each other.
Deep Impact was a much better movie.
-
And just the year before, both Dante's Peak and Volcano (with similar plots) were also released within a couple of months of each other.
-
I didn't see Volcano, but Dante's Peak did have some pretty ridiculous moments.

Same.
-
Good very early morning, all.
-
I was up at 5:45 and am drinking my second cup of coffee, putting off the getting bundled up and going out there.
-
Fortunately, and surprisingly, I looked out and saw the driveway had had a first pass at being plowed. Our guy must have done that while I was asleep because ordinarily there's no way I wouldn't hear it. I wonder what ungodly time of night or morning he was out there. But he's got several properties in town to do, so I shouldn't be surprised he needed a good head start.
-
That by no means cleans everything up, but it's a wonderful start. I'll be starting up the snowblower and doing the parts he can't get to, then I'll go up and down the driveway at least a couple of times, widening and cleaning up the edges, etc. We've got to get it all as clear as possible, because whatever's left there is going to be there for days, given these ungodly subfreezing temperatures.
-
I know there are some "old" movies that qualify as early disaster films, but of the era we're talking about, I think Poseidon Adventure was my first. And for some reason, I think I first went to it somewhere in Westwood, but not one of the big theaters. No idea why. But I sure remember the film and the excitement of it all. I know I saw Earthquake as soon as it opened at the Chinese.
-
Well, I had better get my ASS moving. Later, folks.
-
Oh. As for snow, we didn't get as much as "they" thought we would. I think there's three to four inches out there. And that's enough, thank you.
It's laying in wait for me.
Waiting to mock me.
Counting the minutes till I appear.
-
Good morning, all!
-
And welcome to Trump's Reign of Terror.
-
It's very quiet here at the moment: the TV is not on, and I am not in the mood to listen to music.
-
I did have a scare around 5:00 this morning. Thatch was lying next to me, and he suddenly had a spasm, like a noiseless sneeze, that shook his body. Then there was a second, almost immediately after. He is now in his eighth year, and with his heart issues I worry about him. I never expected he would live this long and now I'm terrified that his borrowed time is running out.

Annabelle, by the way, is back to leaping up onto the filing cabinet to reach her bookcase hideaway.

Yes DR JOHN G - TCM and Classico are my go-to stations for the day.
Last night I watched The Seven Minutes on Classico which was really awful....and the print matched....but it was kind of "can't look away" cinema.

Good morning, friends.

DR George - does your family ever play Tiddlywinks?
-
That's fun step DR singdaw!
-
Done. For now.
By my eye (both of them, actually), we got four inches. It plowed and blew fairly well, but there's a stubborn bottom layer that needs salt and sand, so we've started that process and will do more later. But at this point the driveway can be entered and exeunted.

We are up to a balmy 2 degrees.

Good morning, all.
-
Time to face the day.
Spellcheck wanted me to say, "Time to factory..."
I hope that is not a portent of things to come.

I slept fairly well and uninterrupted sleep.

The dreaded sn*w is still in the forecast.

Need to get a move on.

But first ...

Three!

I slept fairly well and uninterrupted sleep.
Glad to hear that. Hoping it's a sign of feeling much better.

I'm up, I'm up - maybe three or four hours of maybe sleep.

DR John working the night shift is extra nice of you.

This photo was taken in 1946. The guy is Ken Shimizu. He is 35 years old with two children. Shimizu never runs, sleeps late, eats whatever he wants, even drink beer instead of water. He eats dinner with many kinds of food every night.
What does Shimizu do to get such a body? Shimizu doesn't have any secrets. Shimizu is the person sitting in the bottom left corner of the photo. As for the man standing in the middle, I'm not sure who that is.....

How in the HELL is it 3:00 pm? I would have sworn it's probably noon or maybe even 1:00. Where is my day?
I haven't gone near the TV or any news sites, just can't face that yet. I was up early and clearing the driveway, etc., for two hours, and have enjoyed some puttering around since. But I ask you: How in the HELL is it 3:00 pm??
-
That probably explains why I'm hungry. Lordy.
-
DR JOHN G I remember her being adamant about not wearing a bra and then seeing a bra strap as Stella climbed the ladder.

LOL DR GEORGE.
Nice picture.

It is all of 12 degrees here now.

THE FIX:
Virginia ham and swiss on rye with spicy brown mustard.
Dill pickle.
Dr Pepper Zero.

Back from the eye doctor - this guy was great. He pretty much knows exactly what muscle it is - he does want me to have the blood test for myasthenia gravis, but he does NOT want me to have an open MRI - he's fine with the CAT scan. So, my PCP isn't open today, but tomorrow I'll call for a referral for the CAT scan and schedule the blood test. Then I go back to today's doctor for another consultation when he has the new info - that' in eight weeks and after that HE will recommend the surgeon.
-
That is wonderful news, BK.

I left at eight-thirty. There was no traffic at all at any point. I got there in twenty-five minutes. Amazing. Same thing on the way home.

Bruce I am glad you like the new eye doctor. Were you referred to him by the other guy and are their specialties the same?

Did you block him before receiving something from him or after?

Did you block him before receiving something from him or after?
I never received anything from him. I searched his name and in his official profile, I saw the link to click if I wanted to follow, which I didn't, so I just went and blocked the profile.

DR Singdaw I wonder if it said recommended to follow him, or someone else signed you up.
-
I did a search on "President Donald" and none of the search results said anything but "Follow". So this apparently has not happened to me. I closed the page and left well enough alone.

Hello, everyone.
(The above came out as Hell, everyone. Which makes sense, too.)

Andy Borowitz has been asking what people plan to do instead of watching the Inauguration. I did laundry. Aside from the fact that it needed to be done, I’d prefer to do just about ANYthing else.

Hello, everyone.
(The above came out as Hell, everyone. Which makes sense, too.)
LOL. Hi DR Jeanne.
-
He will clearly get pushback on his agenda. It has already started. Public Citizen is suing him. It will be interesting. And many other things.
-
Hi, Jane.
-
I feel bad for the Federal workers who had permission to move away and work remotely.
-
The blame game has been going on since the fires started 2 weeks ago. Idon’t doubt there was some human error, but to say we weren’t prepared because the prepositioned fire equipment wasn’t exactly where it was needed when no one knew where the fire would start or if one even would just seems a bit over the top. Ugh!
-
I feel bad for the Federal workers who had permission to move away and work remotely.
That isn’t going to be very popular. And what’s wrong with working remotely? Oh, that’s right, we’re going back to the 1950s, when things were great.
-
And what about people who are in the midst of transitioning? So many of his ideas just aren’t thought through.
-
I guess I shouldn’t rant. But how can one not be upset?

Vibes to all. Stay safe and warm.
TTFN.

I did a bit of Swedish Death Cleaning.

I looked up best disaster films. I might have seen some of them on tv, however, they seem more like SciFi than disaster.
-
I will say that The Poseidon Adventure was my first. We went with friends and saw it when it first opened. It premiered at The Egyptian Theater in 1972 so I guess that is when we saw it.
-
DR Singdaw I just saw this on FB:
"All y’all may want to check who you are NOW following.
FB made almost everyone a follower of these two.
You will have to unfollow if that’s your preference.
Thanks Mr. Z
Note: I took this off a friend’s page"
-
Who wouldn't want to eat here?
-
Keith & I just checked my list of those I follow and they weren't on it.
-
Thanks, DR Jane. I think I am all set now re: FB.

While in there we "unfollowed" & deleted a number of groups or people.

Aside from cancelling my account altogether. Which is tempting.

Judi Dench is a marvelous Lady Macbeth. A statement that comes as a surprise to no one.
-
I finished Charlotte Chandler’s Billy Wilder bio. It’s chatty and fast. It’s written in a type of shorthand that lets people talk on without the author getting in the way. I both like it and find it lazy, perhaps because she injects herself so often into the narrative at other times.
-
McKellen’s Macbeth is slowly growing on me as he descends into madness.

I have turned off Macbeth for tonight.

Banquo's widow was having her big scene, which always gets to me.

Starting to watch Trevor Nunn’s production of Macbeth with Ian McKellen and Judi Dench.
That's what a bunch of us choristers watched before we started staging rehearsals for Verdi's Macbeth. I agree Judi Dench is magnificent in it, and I recall liking the whole cast.
