Well, you've read the notes, the notes noted the power of no power, and now it is time for you to post until the power tripping cows come home.

And the word of the day is: HERCULEAN!

There were two instances where we lost power for a week, both caused by hurricane damage. Those were the longest , but there have been occasional hours long or days long outages caused by hurricanes, blizzards or once a transformer explosion across the street
We keep battery operated lanterns on all floors of the house and we bought small generator than we can keep the refrigerator running now.
-
Then there were the great blackouts of 1965 and 2003
-
Good morning, all!

After the poor slumber of the night before, I would call last night's sleep mediocre. I slep[t well until a little after 1:00, and after that I slept for a bit, then woke for a bit, then dozed for a bit, and so on. At various times all three cats came to visit me and sleep next to me for a bit. Stella took up Thatch's regular time slot, and I seriously believe he was not happy about that.
-
I've been very fortunate with power issues, and I hope it continues. The first was the August 14, 2003 East Coast blackout that happened around 3:30p.m. and ended around 6:00 the next morning. The worst part was being stuck on a very hot August day with no air conditioning.
I had a votive candle and no flashlight, so navigating my way down three flights of stairs was frightening. Luckily, I was still walking fine with neither cane nor walker, and I made two trips up and down the stairs. The first time was to walk over to Barnes & Noble, where I was working at the time, and see if I could be any help in getting customers out of the sore and helping to secure it. Later I left the apartment to join my neighbors on the stoop outside 200 West 82nd Street.

In 2012, Hurricane Sandy hit New York hard. Former DR Ben and his husband Anthony were stuck without power for about a week. I am on higher ground on the Upper West Side, and our part of the city was fine.

I would gladly devour either tome: The Collected Randy Vicar or The Collected One from Column A. Most amusing.
-
Lighter side of blackouts included the movie starring Doris Day and Robert Morse, "Where Were You When the Lights Went Out?" based on a huge New York blackout.
I recall being very confused (I was younger then, and couldn't quite process that Doris Day was still a big movie star but no longer a recording star) that we were seeing a Doris Day movie with a catchy title song, and the song was not being sung by Doris Day. And then the catchy song never became a hit anyway.

TOD:
We were without power for over a week in an ice storm in Connecticut in the 70s - the one depicted in Ang Lee's movie.
And again in Connecticut for over a week in the early 2010s after another winter storm.

TOD
When we lose power here, we know it's either because down the road somewhere a tree has fallen on a power line, or because a transformer blew. A couple of times the transformer was somewhere nearby on our street, but occasionally it can be at the big power station a few miles away. Our electric company, whose rates now completely SUCK, is nevertheless pretty good about getting the word out as to what's going on when something happens. And we have a pretty active town group on Facebook, so people are always reporting whatever's going on.
The big outages for me were: (1) the August 2003 blackout for approx. the same hours as DR Elmore posted, (2) the Halloween Nor'easter in 2011, and (3) Hurricane Sandy in 2012. For the latter two we were luckier than most, our outages lasted only a couple of days. But man, were they freezing days. I can't even imagine what it must be like for those who go without it for a week or two weeks. Simply can't imagine.
Those latter two were also the instigators for getting the generator installed. We weren't willing to go through another freezing outage.
Oh yeah, number (4): When the "microburst" (with embedded tornadoes for us) came through in May 2018, we were out for five days, maybe part of a sixth. But we had the generator, so we had refrigerator, etc., air-conditioning, and lights. No TV or internet for those days, just cell service, as I recall.
-
The famous outages of the 1970s and earlier weren't experienced by me, as we were living in different parts of the country. There were likely some short ones when I was a kid, but I don't remember them.
-
I'd almost forgotten, but I have a Hitchcock movie to see tonight at the Bedford Playhouse: Shadow of a Doubt.

This just happened: I'm playing the piano/celeste book in Hello, Dolly! at a local school. Orchestra read-through Friday evening. No idea who anyone is, including who else is playing, who's directing, and who's music-directing, so that will be interesting. Rehearsals and shows are the week of March 10th, all week.
Starting this Saturday morning, though, I am keyboard 1 in The Little Mermaid at another school, which fills up all next week.
Then a week's break, followed by another keyboard job in The SpongeBob Musical at a school down in New Canaan. That fills the last week of the month. With three productions, this vies for being my busiest March in recent years.
-
At this point, I don't know SpongeBob from my ... er, elbow, so I have some larnin' to do. Then in late April, early May, I'm playing it again in another location.

I watched the filmed version. It’s rather forgettable. And since every song is written by different people, musically, it’s ersatz.

The only moment I really recall from Where Were You When the Lights Went Out? Was when Robert Morse, upon meeting Terry-Thomas notes that they both have a space between their front teeth.
-
In 2003 I had just taken off on a plane from JFK at the precise minute the blackout hit the east coast. Somehow they let us go, none of this known to me, until I landed in Houston for a layover and all the TVs said power was out in a huge chunk of the eastern seaboard.
-
I then flew to Oakland and drove with my sister to a wedding in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
-
Power went out here for a full day the year before last. Tree fell on a power line. Windy night like last night are always worrisome.
-
In the winter of 2021, Texas had a huge snowstorm that was eventually dubbed Snowmageddon. More than 220 people died, thanks to the ineptitude of state government officials. The power grid was incapable of handling the demand, or so we were told, there were rolling power outages for a week or more. At my house, power was on usually from 8 am to 5 pm, which meant I had to work since I had power. I then had to face nights in the cold, putting on extra layers just to go to sleep.
I found out later that if you lived within a mile of a hospital, your power never went off.
-
This was when Sen. Rafael (aka Lyin’ Ted) Cruz headed to Cancun, leaving his constituents to deal with the calamity by themselves.
-
I knew about the Texas blackouts and Ted Cruz being in Cancun and all, but I never took the trouble to get an understanding of how they structure and deal with the power grid there.
-

Yeah, I kinda can't wait to actually hear this thing.
Kinda.
I could maybe take a stab at it this evening.

I was supposed to usher for Momix tonight. Ticket sales were lousy, so they don’t need a full corps of volunteers. So, instead I got free tickets and will be going as an audience member.

We lost power for a long time during Hurricane Bob in 1991. But that was a long time ago so my memory is spotty on exactly how long or what we did.

TOD:
I have dealt with power outages of a long duration twice in my adult life (none before).
First, I was living in a nice villa in Naples, Italy, and came home one day to find no power. That wasn't unusual at that time, because the usage in the summer was greater than the supply at hand. We had minor outages or brownouts. But as the evening wore on, the power did not return. I figured it would be back on the next day, but when I got home, there was nothing. I visited my landlord and was told that the "power people" had come by and told them I had not paid my bill. Thing was, I never got a bill. I didn't even have a mailbox. So, I had to visit the Navy housing office the next day (all housing on the "economy" is negotiated through that office) to set it all up. They found out how much I owed, I bought the lira and visited the electric company's office on my way home. I paid. Still, power was not restored until the next day. From then on, I was billed through the housing office and all went well.
The second time was this past September when Hurricane Helene blasted her way up through the southeastern states. My power went off at around 3 a.m. on a Friday morning and was not restored until mid-afternoon on the following Sunday. Two and a half days, roughly. I had candles. I also had a small generator that I used to keep my phone charged. After that experience, I purchased two large indoor generators (wih solar screens for recharging) to offset future surprises. I was very fortunate. Some power in my county was restored only after a month or so.

I then flew to Oakland and drove with my sister to a wedding in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
Was this visit to Oakland the one where we got together for a dim sum lunch?

It's often worth setting goals and then achieving those goals.
Right now, a possible goal is to get to page 3 before noon (Eastern).

Hi DR Iris! So good to have you back and posting for a while.
Yes, I saw your comments last night!
That video was from my Dad's 100th birthday, which was Sept. 7 2020. That video with Bill and Maureen wishing Dad (in Miami Beach) Happy 100th Birthday from New York is a real favorite of mine!
Thanks to YouTube, and some help from iMovie, we were able to have a fun celebration, despite it being the height of the pandemic. (Dad passed away at age 100-1/2 four years ago.)

I don't believe I ever went to Pinnacle Peak Patio. That's where the tourists went.

Pinnacle Peak Patio was waaaay out in the desert. It's now upscale houses.

We did, however, start going to Bill Johnson's Big Apple for a while, just before they closed. My DH would always order steak and eggs when we went out for breakfast, and he'd always complain about the steak. So I took him to Bill Johnson's, which was kind of an ordinary people kind of place. He was happy.

I mean, really, don't order a steak at Denny's and expect anything good.

As far as chains go, I've been very pleased by the steak at the Times Square Red Lobster.

As much of a fan I've been of McDonald's, their steak and eggs bagel has gotten two tries from me, and I don't think I'm going to try it again.

DR Jeanne I wonder if this was the gel your eye doctor mentioned.
"Lacrifill is a gel-based treatment injected into the tear duct, offering a potential advantage over traditional solid plugs by minimizing irritation and discomfort, while also being less prone to accidental expulsion from the eye; whereas eye plugs are small, solid devices inserted into the tear duct opening, which can sometimes cause irritation or fall out easily."

One last La sonnambula review has arrived, but this is a big one. Instead of a long-time blogger, it's from San Francisco Classical Voice. They're the main source for classical music reviews in the San Francisco Bay area since the Chronicle's critic, Joshua Kosman, retired:

Congratulations, Jane!
-
Momix was great.
-
I’m exhausted.
-
Good night, all.

I’d like to know the make of that generator.
I’ll have to ask Vixdad. It’s very noisy though and runs on gasoline so it’s outside
-
Well not now, now it’s in the garage. It’s only outside when it’s in use
-
Momix was great.
Glad you enjoyed it, John.

Back from a fun rehearsal. Got everything done that was scheduled including the long Today is the Day for a Band to Play Number. Endless and needlessly long thanks to Joe Layton having so much damn dance music - we cut a bit of it because I could take no more. I got the bones of it done and it's fun, but it needs a little zhuzh now, so I'll figure out some stuff to add.

I was able to download the BBC Radio's Love Life (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0027m1q) by Kurt Weill.
-
This is just a placeholder because:
Opera North's Love Life to Receive Cast Album (https://playbill.com/article/opera-norths-love-life-to-receive-cast-album)
The album will be the first complete recording of Kurt Weill's score.
-
And then there was this article:
Shucked U.K. Premiere, Revised Brigadoon*, More in Regent's Park Open Air Theatre Season (https://playbill.com/article/shucked-u-k-premiere-revised-brigadoon-more-in-regents-park-open-air-theatre-season)
-
*The paragraphs in question:
[Drew] McOnie will direct and choreograph a new Brigadoon, performing August 2–September 20 and opening August 11. Scottish playwright Rona Munro has newly adapted Alan Jay Lerner's original book, about the mysterious town on the Scottish Highlands that appears for just one day each century. Danielle Fiamanya (Mandela) will star as Fiona opposite Louis Gaunt (Bridgerton) as Tommy, with additional casting (by Will Burton) to be announced.
The revival will feature set design by Basia Bińkowska, costume design by Sami Fendall, lighting design by Jessica Hung Han Yun, sound design by [Nick] Lidster, intimacy direction** by [Ingrid] Mackinnon, and music supervision and orchestrations by Tony winner Sarah Travis. The production is being licensed by Music Theatre International.
**Intimacy "direction"?? :-\
-
At least the revising playwright is Scottish. That's something in favor of it, I would think.
-
And not to get political, but here's some good news:
Judge indefinitely blocks Trump’s plan to freeze federal aid (https://www.msn.com/en-us/general/general/judge-indefinitely-blocks-trump-s-plan-to-freeze-federal-aid/ar-AA1zMniD?ocid=TobArticle)

What is this page six malarkey?
-
Seriously.
-
Not very sporting.
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
Certainly not here.
-
And George left.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
I don't get it.
-
I don't want to get it.
-
We're just sitting here like so much rotting scrod.
-
Why did George just disappear into the ether?
-
Riddle me THAT.
-
Oh, come on already.
-
Where the HELL is the next page.
-
Where the HELL is the next George.
-
Well, what can you do.
-
Not much.
-
Is there gaslighting going on?
-
See?
-
Ah, the page that shall not be named even though it's been named.
