Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of a piece of Mahler's and a smooth run-through, and now it is time for you to post until the smooth cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BEHEST!
-
Notes Ormandied, almondined.
-
I couldn’t find the moon or my glasses, not necessarily in that order.
-
I couldn't see the picture in BK's notes that he said he posted. :-\
-
Hey! I can see the moon!
-
Not a great lens for zooming, though. ::)

Good morning, friends.

Thanks for keeping us posted, DR DR Iris.

More mega-vibes and love and hugs for DR Iris!

BK, congrats on having an actual copy of your new book! And it looks great!
-
BK write in the Notes: "in fact, it became a fictional drama with not a thing based in actual fact except for what I was saying."
Sorry you're going through that, BK!
We kid here at times about whether gaslighting is going on, but I think that may be part of the very definition of someone trying to gaslight people - trying to get others believing their fake version is the factual version.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept very poorly between 1:30 and 5:15 - leg pains, anxiety, general discontent - so when the alarm rang at 5:15, I turned it off and went back to sleep, with the attitude I'll get up when I want to. Annabelle and Thatch stopped by to cuddle with me. I vaguely remember one dream in which I think I was a British policeman.
-
This teacart, a really generous gift from Ann and Jen, has turned out to be a real piece of shit: two weeks ago Sunday, while I was pushing it - loaded down with my dinner and the cat's dinners - a wheel fell off, creating a mess but not as bad as it might have been since I was able to hold the cart upright from my end. After I cleaned up the mess, I was unable to screw the wheel back into its base for two reasons: it was a "special" screw requiring a non-standard screwdriver and, no matter what I did, to get the screw to feed into its base, nothing worked. So, I used Super Gorilla Glue in frustration.
-
Then, last Sunday, the damned wheel fell off again, along with a second wheel! At this point, I decided the manmufacturing was the issue. I used my Gorilla Glue again - I need a cart and I cannot afford to buy one until my damned IRS refund shows up, if ever - untill last night, while Annabelle was riding it. Both wheels fell off, resulting in kibble all over the floor so I had nother gluing job along with have to vacuum the floor. I cannot waitr to throw this piece of crap out.
-
Last night I watched episodes 3 & 4 of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. It's got me hooked.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Bad night of sleep. But must head to the hill country and soon.
-
I missed the eclipse.
-
Mega vibes, prayers and hugs for Iris!

Five years ago yestertday, March 13, 2020, was a Friday. On that day, I had a delightful lunch with Jack Vierte, and when we parted, I to home and he to the Encores! rehearsal of Love Life,, little did we suspect that within four hours New York and the world we knew would shut down because of a plague the GOP called a Democrat hoax and the president claimed would be over by summer.
-
DR Iris, I'm so happy yiu have a diagnosis for your rash and so sad for your news. I thought you were getting radiation, not chemotherapy. Am I getting that right?

Broadway theaters had gone dark on Thursday March 12, 2020, by order of Gov. Cuomo. Were LOVE LIFE rehearsals still going on March 13? Was the shutdown expected to be short-lived at that point?

Back from a medical appointment. I asked about a measles booster; they ordered a titer (thanks, DR Jane!) to see what's what.

Thankfully, this morning and afternoon and clear for me. Time to relax for a bit. A show tonight, then two shows tomorrow, followed by the closing matinee on Sunday.
I'm REALLY glad next week's gig got canceled. It will afford me some good ketchup time on some things, and prep time on other things.

Two new books I’ve been reading this week have dealt with the pandemic. Raising Hare was a touching memoir of a woman who saves a hare and gains a greater appreciation of nature. Small Rain is about a poet who discovers he has a life-threatening illness during covid. So far, it’s about navigating the hospital system during a time of medical shortages.

Of course at the end of the song they all ran off and left me to do my solo "I'm Calm"....as they left I called after them "Cowards!!"

My quote last night was from the musical movie Goodbye, Mr. Chips.
Spoken by the brilliant Welsh actress Sian Phillips who portrayed Ursula Mossbank. It remains a very underrated film. Phillips was, at that time, married to Peter O'Toole. Some may remember her from "I, Claudius",
-
My one involvement with Forum to date was nominally as music director (when I knew NOTHING about being an MD) and pit pianist, said pit consisting of a spinet piano - backstage (in a 100-seat jernt) - with a friend on a tiny amateur-level second keyboard and set of drums and sound effects. It was 1998, and was my first time working with the friend I sometimes refer to as "my director" who had years of experience doing literally every job there is in theater, in various venues including summer stock and dinner theater. That and the following shows taught me so much about what's required, and instilled in me the love of actually working in theeder.
Videographic evidence exists in the form of several nights of VHS tapes I still have. I really need to digitize one of those and get it onto a DVD or put it on a private YouTube page. It would be a hoot. Some of the stage action should actually be pretty good and funny, and I probably played it acceptably, but I just remembered this aspect which ain't so hot: they'd wanted to use some of the music from the Nathan Lane revival, and not knowing any better, I laboriously took it down from the CD which took a bloody long time. And of course you're not supposed to do that anyway. Shame, shame, shame. Um, maybe I *won't* upload it. 8)
-
A "P.S." to the post about the brief run of "A Funny Thing...". We had originally planned on "Guys and Dolls". Fifty people showed up for auditions. About 30 were cast. Two rehearsals later, we were getting about 15 people only, so we decided to do "A Funny Thing...".
And the brief history of the revival (!) of the Naples Little Theater (Naples, Italy) ended. The theater had been one of the community's main attractions for a couple of decades. It started in the late 60s and did very well until an earthquake devastated the local area in the early 1980s. While the local military remained in the same area, people who worked there moved further away into newer housing facilities. Travel took longer and folks, apparently, weren't interested in small parts if they had to be on the road 30 minutes or more just to get there.
FWIW: The military community was international. Lots of U.S. Navy, but also Brits, Turks, Greeks, Italians and civilians. The Naval Support Activity was near the NATO Allied Forces Southern Europe headquarters. There were more than 10,000 able-bodied, English-speaking people looking for fun things to do. Many lived near the bases and barracks were also within that area. After the earthquake, people moved into newer housing and newer barracks were built further away.

PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE ALERT
I have so few old photos of things I was a part of, and some of you have posted yours, so here goes. The guy on the left is my friend the keyboardist/percussionist. The strange-looking dude is a 1998 version of someone you already know. Don't bother embiggening
-
And my memory was wrong, he had two keyboards set up there. I'm sorry none of us had the presence of mind to take one of the spinet piano.
-
DR Iris, I'm so happy yiu have a diagnosis for your rash and so sad for your news. I thought you were getting radiation, not chemotherapy. Am I getting that right?
Larry, I had six rounds of chemotherapy starting last July, surgery in December, and radiation started a few weeks ago. I get chemotherapy injections every 3 weeks through July.
I thought that this awful rash was due to the radiation. It is possible that Grover’s disease is caused by chemo and/or radiation.
-
DR Iris, sending Mega Vibes your way and praying they work. I completely understand your decision to stop. I do hope you have the engery to write one letter to Hopkins with a copy of your Grovers biopsy and a complaint of how they treated you. There is no excuse for their attitude.
-
Radiation is excruciating because of the rash, so I will not be able to continue the treatments.
And that’s enough about me.

Nice stories from DR RON PULLIAM and DR CHAS SMITH.
That's quite to keyboard set up!
And all those dames from the House of Lycus.
So many funny lines:
Hero: She's from the House of Lycus......is that bad?
Pseudolus: Well there's no way to make it seem like an accomplishment.

In my experience, bookcases always go fast unless they’re obvious crap. But the poor table. A picture should be taken of it, right where it is.

I did not realize that on the evening of March 12, 1971, David Burns was performing in Philadelphia in the pre-Broadway tour of 70, Girls, 70. After singing "Go Visit," he left the stage and collapsed in the wings, later dying at the hospital. The show's creators then turned the song into a duet for two other characters, and that is what we have on the cast album and what opened in New York.

Tonight we will be watching the 4th episode of the 2017 show Taboo. There was supposed to be a season 2 which unfortunately didn't happen. I am completely engrossed in this show.

As a Protean I also had to be a soldier and I recall one night spending over an hour with all of us trying to figure out this one entrance where we were supposed to march on to some musical cue and all collide into each other, basic funny business, but there was an extra beat in there we couldn’t figure out, and we couldn’t time the march properly to make it work. Home from a bit of dry tech and run-through. We now have our plan that we'll write the rest of the show during the cue to cue. We got half of act one done in an hour today, so we should be able to do it. I'm not making anything difficult. She brings up lights, we decide on the "look" then finesse and move on.

I've been thinking about getting their release of Funny Girl, but haven ordered that one, yet.
