Another note to those DRs who will be taking the Eating and Walking and Eating and Walking Tour next Wednesday...
9:30 AM
Rockefeller Center
Meet on the Plaza Level "behind" the statue of Prometheus (the one down in the rink area).
*And maybe we can all get on "The Today Show"!
Be there or be square!
*Otherwise, be at 1st Ave and Houston at 10:00am.
And for those DRs and lurkers who would like to head to Splash on Monday night... I guess we could all meet at 8:0, post-Barrymore's, around Barrymore's. Otherwise, see you down there around 8:30. Phone calls will be made, e-mails will be sent. Are you not coming to Barrymore's, DRJose?
Are you not coming to Barrymore's, DRJose?
Can one just show up at Barrymore's if one can make it, or does a reservation have to be made with a specific number of people?
Looks like my family may not be doing any Rosh Hashanah festivities on Monday night, so by my modified-religious views, I may mentally put off the start of the religious part of the holiday until Tuesday morning. :)
Hmm...This week's trivia question seems so straightforward, and I feel like it's something I should know off the top of my head, but I can't get all the parts to work out.
Oh good, New York 1's Onstage has brought back its weekly "Scene and Heard" segment. It was much missed.
O.J. Signs Autographs at Horror Convention
By LINDA DEUTSCH
AP Special Correspondent
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A decade after he was acquitted of killing his ex-wife and her friend, O.J. Simpson was back in Los Angeles autographing sports memorabilia for people attending a horror movie convention.
…
Simpson's appearance Friday night was a private affair in which he was presented with items sent in by collectors who paid in advance for his signature.
Fans who prepaid $95 a ticket to enter the convention later in the weekend will have the opportunity to buy memorabilia and also get Simpson's signature, as well as buy souvenirs of horror films and comic books.

And the word of the day is: TACTILE!Diplomats regularly gather for the Diplomat Convention at the world-famous Tact Isle.
A wonderful group called Faithful Friends (http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/DE16.html) is picking up Rocky today.October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month!

I am amazed at what a retired engineer with a camera coupled with a dedicated web-posting/networking lady volunteer can accomplish. None of this would be possible without today's hi-tech tools.

PS Beau is probably going to a foster home on Tuesday.
Thanks, DR Ben.
I barely slept last night as well.
I like going on trips but the hardest part for me is saying bye to Mom and the dogs. I'm always crying in the van on the way to airport and I know the guy thinks I'm nuts. I'm ok once we're on the road but till we get down the street......
DRMBarnum just called; he's on the bus terrorizing pasengers with photos of saggy ageing gladiators and Bollywood memorabilia. Their background cries for mercy were pitiful.

Then I located DR Elmore on the corner of 8th and 42nd...
WILL ARRANGE
FOR CHANGE
DRs MBarnum & Danise: Welcome to New York! Glad to know you guys made is safely.
DR Elmore: If you're requesting seating for 5-15, would it possible that I could join you guys on Monday night? I've been to Paradise, but I've never been to Barrymore's and I'd love to meet all the NY newbies. :)
I took some allergy medicine before bed and I slept WAY too much. I think I finally woke up around 2:30.
Still no word on Granny. No news is good news...
Of course, DRJason. Do you want to join us tonight?
I'd love to, but I think with Barrymore's on Monday and the tour and Cocina on Weds., I probably should save my money. And rent is due today! Thanks for asking, though...
I'm watching (don't ask why) SOUL TRAIN and one of the girls just took off her jacket to reveal her bra. It's not a sports bra...not a tank top...not a bikini top. It's just a bra. Tacky, tacky, tacky...
Speaking of SOUL TRAIN, you should hear what Miss Uggams does to "Stormy Weather"! At least she doesn't flash her bra.
Page 3 Dance in Honor of Michael (and others who might enjoy it)
Haha! Have you ever seen the video of Ms. Uggams singing "June is Bustin' Out All Over" for some 4th of July celebration in Washington, DC? It's hilarious...
June is bustin' out all over...
the bees flyin round the beezee boo...
with the heebees and the jeebees and the
hizm and the flizm and the bizy bozy flizm flazm
zoom!
BECAUSE IT'S JUNE! JUNE, JUNE, JUNE...
JUST BE-CAUSE IT'S JUNE!!
And as if that weren't embarassing enough, she forgot the words to the second verse, too!! And it's all on tape...
Hahaha!!
Does she at least sing any of Rodgers' notes? She invents most of the Arlen.
It's not a sports bra...not a tank top...not a bikini top. It's just a bra. Tacky, tacky, tacky...
Wth everyone coming and going, this weekend, I forgot to talk about Opening Night of MY FAIR LADY. The show went very well (all things considered). Higgins had a rather off night, lyrics-wise, but still a pretty good show. We received a standing ovation, which is rare for that theater, on opening nights. Still, I doubt I will be offering copies of the DVD (if such a thing existed) to any of my friends. The SCROOGE DVD (if it existed), was overall a better production.

DR TCB - Thanks for your opening night report. I will think of you tomorrow when my DH Richard and I see a touring My Fair Lady at Dayton's Schuster Center.
Celebrated national Pork Month by having Eggs Benedict
Thanks, Ginny. And remember, I am a much better Pickering than that guy in the touring company.::) ::) ::) ::)
DR FJL and others - The dinner on Wednesday will be at:
La Cocina
217 W 85th Street (between Broadway & Amsterdam)
Start time: 8:00-ish
We will most likely be downstairs.
*Anyone up for lunch at Artie's on Monday? ;)
-When I checked in with Artie's, I got a distinct vibe that they would be very busy next Wednesday night due to post-Rosh Hoshanah dining, and that they weren't too keen on parties possibly lingering - which is understandable. However, I still like their latkes and pastrami. :)
SURFACE is also repeating its first two episodes tonight at 8 on NBC.
The Ray Courts show seemed better attended today than it has been, but about two o'clock it seemed that the crowds had been and gone. Hisaka didn't recognize too many people, so she seemed bewildered by it all. We did have nice chats with Warren Berlinger and Mariette Hartley, and I saw a few other folks I know. I bought a couple of CDs, Mariette's book, and a couple of pieces of sheet music. Then Pogue, his friend Pat, Hisaka and I went and had some food at the Daily Grill (light, so as not to spoil dinner). Here is a photograph of Pogue, Hisaka, and Pat, taken directly after lunch.
And with out new nifty cable box (HDTV Converter/DVD Recoder combined) we can watch one channel andtaperecord another. It's also nice to be able to record and play back in HDTV!
I just wish we got ABC on HDTV - we get NBC, CBS, TNT, FOX, HBO and SHO
I must admit, HDTV is becoming addictive! Even the difference with the DVDs is spectacular! (And, boy, am I glad I switched to buying wide-screen DVDs long before I had an HDTV to fully appreciate them.
I must confess, previously I thought you were probably exagerating the big plus of HDTV and enhanced DVDs - but no more. I am a True Believer. (For me the best part is the backgrounds - the night cityscapes, waves breaking on rocky seashores, billowing clouds over mountains...)
DR Hisaka is even lovely than her avatar would lead us to believe. Of course, DR Charles, and friend Pat, are quite attractive, as well.
BK, has filled you in on the Ray Courts show. Both Warren Berlinger and Mariette Hartley were a delight! As was dear Hisaka who brought me the most wonderful gift! A Japanese Press Book of THE FLY. Boy, does my name look strange in Japanese. It was most kind and thoughtful of her. Thank you, Hisaka!
George & Cillaliz-enjoy your evening.
TCB thanks for the report. Congrats on the standing ovation.
Cillaliz I will have to wait until I see you for the details of the wedding
Bruce, Hisaka and Pogue have fun. :)
Do I smell Home Fries burning???
Does anyone have a copy of "The Murder of Mary Phagan" in their basement? Just tried to find a copy on the NET. WOW! maybe the price is a reflection of the demand for Kevin Spacey pics. (I don't think I'm alone).

It vaguely resembled his tune until she held the long notes, at which point her vibrato took over and practically did cadenzas of the operatic sort. But as long as she smiled through the song, no one caught on that she had royally screwed up Hammerstein's lyrics.I remember too well Ms. U's performance as the Witch in Into the Woods at the Long Beach Civic Light Opera. At the end of each of her numbers, she would throw her arms wide and give a beaming smile, resembling rigor mortis. She was breathtaking...but more in the sense of the exhalation final breath than exalting.
That used to be one of my favorites.Welcome, all, to Gay and Lesbian History Month!!!
However....
I decided to rename my favorite breakfast (which heretofore was called Eggs Benedict). Benedict is a vicious homophobic Pope bringing great despair to his flock and pain to his church! Unfortunately, the first known queer Pope was also a Benedict (IX), so I shall have to go with another Flame of the Vatican, Julius (III).
Henceforth, breakfast shall be "Eggs Julius".
der Brucer
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAME JULIE!And her voice is still a bit better than Mildred Natwick's (in the show of the same name).
70, GIRL, 70!
OH!
DR elmore et al - As for the possible late lunch/early dinner at Barrymore's tomorrow, Sunday, keep in mind that it's matinee day, and by the time we gather there, we would most likely be fighting the post-matinee crowds. So....
If you do want to keep it in the Theatre District, there's always John's Pizza - a great space, and since they're soooo big, there's never really problem with a group coming in at the last minute. Plus, it's just great pizza. -And since we will be meeting at Barrymore's on Monday night...
Or we could head further uptown too...
DRJose, remind me where John's Pizza is. i've only been there once.
...Here is a photograph of Pogue, Hisaka, and Pat, taken directly after lunch.I didn't realize until now that DR Pogue is so comparitively short.
Has anyone mentioned that City Center Encores! is doing 70 GIRLS 70 this coming season? Should be some interesting casting.
DR MattH - Why bother finishing "A Chorus Line"? It was bad the first time you saw it, and it sounds like it still bad on your current viewing... And don't you still have to get to "The Bostonians"?
;)
Nope, I wrote in detail about THE BOSTONIANS the other day, probably while you were playing those auditions.
It's nostalgic watching ACL, as bad as it is. I love the show, having done it twice myself for extended runs, and seeing the bits and pieces of the original show that are in the movie brings back fond memories.
BTW, A CHORUS LINE has a beautiful DVD transfer. Naturally.
Thanks for the pics, DR Danise. Always nice seeing our friends "in the flesh."
Ah, sorry - my bad...
As for the movie version of ACL... Boy, does Baayork Lee have stories about all that mishegas! -And I believe there's a book in process too, so stayed tuned.
I missed the BOSTONIANS review too! I shall go back and look.
Hilarious bit with Mike Myers and Kanye West.
DR George, I put the package for you in the mail today, so be on the lookout for it next week.
I've been home all day doing not much of anything. However, I have to shower and shave and go to work for a couple of hours. Right after that, I go downtown to the Washington Center for the Performing Arts and usher for a concert by the one and only Melissa Manchester! I can't wait! I've never seen her perform live and although I don't know all of her songs...or even that many ::), I really like what I do know. I also have the LA Theatre Works recording of the show that she wrote called I Sent a Letter to My Love (http://www.latw.org/catalog/item.php3?id=41&list=41&path=). I'm going to bring it on the off-chance that she'll sign it. ;D
