Well, you've read the notes, the notes were musically speaking, and now it is time for you to post until the musically speaking cows come home.

For the TOD, does that mean pop songs of the 1960s or also theater songs of the 1960s?

Back in the actual 1960s, before I was ten years old, I recall especially enjoying "Sweet Caroline" and "Sugar, Sugar."

(Looking back from now at songs from the 1960s, there are so many.)

I slept well for the most part, but my left arm and hand would be numb for a while, then return to normal, thern go numb . . .

I think the pinched nerve is in my right hip joint - since I sleep on my side - and it all depends on my putting pressure on it while I sleep. I'm not really a doctor, I just pretend to be one.

For some reason, the version of "Mary Poppins" that I recall listening to a lot in the 1960s was a studio version where Marni Nixon sang the "Mary Poppins" songs.

I can pinpoint what I listened to in the 1960s vs. the 1970s pretty clearly because in summer 1970, we moved from Flatbush (when the record player was in the living room) to Luna Park in the Coney Island area (when the record player was actually in my bedroom).

In the 1960s, since I was in Yeshivah and (for an under-ten-years old kid) therefore, rather fluent in conversational Hebrew, I was very taken with the Hebrew cast recordings of The King and I, Oliver and Hello Dolly.

It’s like the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang I know is from a cheapie version by the Richard Wolfe Children’s Chorus that my mom bought my siblings. Some memorable arrangements.

At least in the 1970s, when the Korvettes on Cropsey Avenue near Coney Island had one of their department-wide sales, with the color-coded pricing stickers on them, there were indeed bargains to be found

God damned Fed Ex! Supposedly, they delivered two 29-lb cartons of kitty litter to my lobby. Since the elevator was out of order yesterday I could not go down to get them. Jen told mer last night that she saw no cartons for me in the lobby.

Sure enough, this morning I took the trash to the basement and picked up my mail. No cartons of litter. Petsmart just placed a new order at no charge, thank God, but where the fat hell did a clearly dyslexic delivery person leave the litter?

The TOD is difficult for me, too.

But I guess I shall just post a few high points:

Lesley Gore - It's My Party

The Beatles - She Loves You, etc. right through Magical Mystery Tour.

Petula Clark - Downtown

The Animals - House of the Rising Sun

Chad & Jeremy and Peter & Gordon

Many Broadway & movie songs already mentioned....but POP music was what I was buying in the 1960's.

I did buy and love the OBC of HAIR - although I liked the Cowsills' version as well.

I should have included HAIR! Most of the other albuyms you list were shows I discovered in the 1970s. In collefe, I used to play in the dorm recordings of Jonathan and Darlene Edwards, Mrs Miller, and Anna Russell just to annoy my critics, of which there were many latent GOP members who thought I was weird.

With the ‘60s end came the end of the great era of instrumental chart hits. Of course there would still be some big ones, but I once did the math and there were more Hot 100 charting instrumental hits in 1961 alone than in all the years from 1970 to the present, combined.

I had a Letterman Greatest Hits cassette and we were driving one time with it playing their version of the Theme From a Summer Place. And we’re just humming along because we both mainly knew the Percy Faith masterpiece, but we both simultaneously came in after the bridge, “And the sweet secret of….” And we had to laugh at ourselves as THAT lyric had stuck in our minds separately o’er the ages.

Today we discussed The Godfather Part II watching scenes from the movie. There's a lot of obliqueness and ambiguity in it which made for fun discussions.

Great.

One of the more spectacular photos from DR JANE.

Did she/Keith take that photo? Or was that from a plane flying over all the balloons?

Keith took all of the photos except the ones of us.  I attempted to copy and paste Keith's wonderful description of our morning from my FB page. Maybe someone else can do that.

The two Don Ellis albums I got at Korvette's were Live at Fillmore and Tears of Joy. Fillmore is the height of his rock period, then Tears of Joy moves to the string-based band he used for the rest of his career. Both are great starting points for exploration. My other two favorite albums are Soaring and Live at Montreux.

I’ve never seen the Godfather films in full.

I think the first Godfather film is worth it; it's really amazing. Part II is too dark for me, but I liked it better watching it for the second time this week when I wasn't surprised by where it was going. Part III is fine but not up to the level of the others.

Don Ellis also scored the two French Connection movies. The Connection album traded in on that success but it only has two great original tracks, including the big band version of the theme. The rest of the songs are mediocre rock covers.

Don Ellis is perfect for adventurous jazz band kids. What with his wild time signatures. Not sure why he was never “cool” among real jazzbos. Too much big band, pop experiments, vocals, I guess. Most have sold a lot though. Easy to find in the dollar bins.

I think it was too much rock, too much flash. Jazz was getting swamped by rock at the time so there was a defensive reaction.

In the 1960s, since I was in Yeshivah and (for an under-ten-years old kid) therefore, rather fluent in conversational Hebrew, I was very taken with the Hebrew cast recordings of The King and I, Oliver and Hello Dolly.

I've never heard those, but I actually have the Israeli cast recordings of Annie (https://castalbums.org/recordings/-2002-Israeli-Cast/4205) (Strouse/Charnin version) and a version of Peter Pan (https://castalbums.org/recordings/-1993-Israeli-Cast/17250) (פיטר פן) by Yaron Kafkafi.

That's really crappy, Larry! >:( I hate it when things like that happen!
