Well, you've read the notes, the notes were eclectic, and now it is time for you to post until the eclectic cows come home.

For the TOD, so many of the classic comedians.  I'll. try to sort that out later.

Among the modern comedians, my recent favorite has been Jessica Kirson; I've only seen her on video, never live, but I really enjoy her comedy style.

Speaking of "The Eclectic Day":  I recall having a particularly wonderful dinner at a place called The Eclectic Cafe, just before seeing a concert presentation of a show at the El Portal Theatre, on my L.A. visit in 2002.

She had a lot of family in last weekend and you know how that goes. Anyway, she's taking her Sambucol and she thinks she'll be okay to get through the shows this weekend. Sunday is now completely sold out.

Wikipedia tells us that the very well-received (and 9-time-Tony nominated) musical SHUCKED partially derived from a HEE HAW musical.  SHUCKED even has a character named Lulu.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shucked

"Shucked was partially derived from one of [Robert] Horn's earlier projects, 2015's Moonshine: That Hee Haw Musical. Sources seem to differ on whether Shucked should be considered an evolution of or completely separate from Moonshine, as the only elements remaining from the 2015 show are two songs and that one character is named Lulu."

Speaking of Lulu Roman (R.I.P.), I have a freeform comedy/music/audio clips record by a guy named Murray Roman, who was part of the Smothers Bros. writing team and put out this curio called, “You Can’t Beat People Up and Have Them Say I Love You.” Hippie-era artifact.

Off to film class to see Tommy.

Enjoy the class, MichaelG!

Thanks! I did my homework by listening to the concept album yesterday. So I’ll be ready for any adaptation questions. 😀

WSJ had a column today about the Criterion release of Jean de Florette/Manon of the Springs. It didn’t really talk about anything Criterion did to the films, and nothing about extras, but the writer made me want to watch them again.

I am back from (as DR Jrand74 rightly notes) not one, but two (count 'em) rehearsals.

The first was the final band rehearsal before tech week for SpongeBottle. The second was a tech rehearsal for Saturday's concert by the Ridgefield Chorale, at which nothing tech-y was ready for prime time and the director was fit to be tied. But she's a fine lady and very smart at putting things together, and I know tomorrow's final dress rehearsal will succeed at doing double duty as both tonight's failed tech and its own rehearsal. If that made any sense.

Fortunately, the director said that with needing to reschedule the choreography that wasn't able to happen last night to next Wednesday, the stuff that C's P needs to go through can be done at that time, too, so that's good.
Title: Re: THE ECLECTIC DAY
Post by: George on April 25, 2025, 12:06:10 AM
It was really only a few pages with him and the Baker's Wife, so it wasn't such a loss of time.
Title: Re: THE ECLECTIC DAY
Post by: George on April 25, 2025, 12:06:41 AM
It's no skin off my nose, but as long as the director and choreographer can adjust, all is well. :)

Post by: George on April 25, 2025, 12:08:01 AM
And because of C's P not being there, B and B's W got to work a couple of other scenes that were planned for Saturday's rehearsal, so that time can be shorter.

Any particular favorites, either overall or individual performers / songs?

I have the:

Original Broadway cast recording (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Into-the-Woods-1987-Original-Broadway-Cast/2787)

Original London cast recording (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Into-the-Woods-1991-Original-London-Cast/1347)

Original German (highlights only) cast recording (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Ab-in-Den-Wald-1992-Original-German-Cast/24043)

Original Catalan (also only highlights) cast recording (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Boscos-endins-2007-Original-Catalan-Cast/11228)

Original Barcelona cast recording (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Boscos-endins-2008-Original-Barcelona-Cast/11849)

Original motion picture soundtrack (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Into-the-Woods-2014-Film-Soundtrack/28393)

2022 Broadway revival cast recording (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Into-the-Woods-2022-Broadway-Cast/47128)

As for favorites, of course, the OBC is definitive (in my opinion), but I love the pictures from the London production.  They're very European, and living several years as a kid in Germany (and having a German mother), I love the scenic and set designs.
Title: Re: THE ECLECTIC DAY
Post by: George on April 25, 2025, 12:37:33 AM
The German cast recording is kind of weird.  The Baker's Wife sings too prettily and much more in her head voice than any of the other recordings.  It's a choice, but maybe not the best choice. ::) And it's only highlights (and unusual choices there, too), so that's more frustrating than anything else.

The Barcelona recording is pretty complete, and I really enjoy all the performers on the latest Broadway revival recording, and the movie soundtrack is not bad (but I miss what's not in the movie, so that's frustrating, too).
