Well, you've read the notes, the notes were eclectic, and now it is time for you to post until the eclectic cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BOUNTIFUL!
-
Congrats on the modern major miracle, BK!

And it's really cool that the producer of The Partridge Family is coming to see Drat! The Cat! :)

Congrats on the modern major miracle, BK!
Yes, fabulous modern major miracle news!
-
For the TOD, so many of the classic comedians. I'll. try to sort that out later.
Among the modern comedians, my recent favorite has been Jessica Kirson; I've only seen her on video, never live, but I really enjoy her comedy style.
-
That's too bad about the quality of the food at your dinner yesterday, BK - but good that the conversation was lots of fun.
-
Interesting and quite encouraging rehearsal update in last night's posts, George!
-
Speaking of "The Eclectic Day": I recall having a particularly wonderful dinner at a place called The Eclectic Cafe, just before seeing a concert presentation of a show at the El Portal Theatre, on my L.A. visit in 2002.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I did not sleep well with the usual aches and pains. Faithful Thatch stayed with me, and I think Stella came by at one point, but it was all in all a loudy night.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Vibes for a good day for all of us.
-
And it's really cool that the producer of The Partridge Family is coming to see Drat! The Cat! :)
It is.
-
I really enjoyed Pope Francis' music choices.
-
TOD:
Lucille Ball
Buster Keaton
Charles Chaplin
Harold Lloyd
Bob Hope
The Marx Bros. (Harpo by himself in small doses)
Bob Newhart
Carol Burnett
Madeline Kahn
Mel Brooks
Cloris Leachman

Really wonderful to read that!
-
Good morning, all.

Big day today, two rehearsals and a lot of schlepping around.
-
Good morning, friends.

And others.
-
Yikes, too bad that restaurant was such a dud (not milk) in the meat department.
-
Notes reclaimed. Illuminated.
-
Lovely day so far!
-
Slow posting day. Relatively slow voting day too.
-
Slow, slow, slow.

Indeed.....like a turtle.
-
I liked to see the comics on Ed Sullivan.....except a few that I hated and never thought were funny including:
Sam Levinson
Myron Cohen
Wayne & Schuster
My favorites:
Nichols & May
Joan Rivers
Woody Allen
Jack Benny
Totie Fields
Phyllis Diller
Allan King
-
Get out of here Page One.
-
Thank you.
-
I am now going to watch Solomon & Sheba on ScreenPix......I wish Tyrone Power had survived the filming and was the star instead of Mr Brynner - who is okay - but he ain't no Ty Power.
-
Interesting and quite encouraging rehearsal update in last night's posts, George!
Thanks, Freddie!

Indeed.....like a turtle.
I wondered if my post about my family might have put a damper on things. Just in case that was it, I took down that post.
-
Rip Taylor could always make me laugh.

I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.

Well, our leading lady is sick - a cold, like our leading man had two weeks ago. She didn't get it from him as I think it would have hit her sooner. She had a lot of family in last weekend and you know how that goes. Anyway, she's taking her Sambucol and she thinks she'll be okay to get through the shows this weekend. Sunday is now completely sold out.

Sending across-the-country wellness vibes to your DRAT! THE CAT! leading lady!

We saw with Jane and Keith that international wellness vibes might not be that reliable,
but across-the-country HHW wellness vibes should have some effect.

For those who found the TV show HEE HAW either a guilty pleasure or maybe even just a comedy pleasure - sad news.

Lulu could be pretty funny!
My parents were fans of the show.....because they were fans of Buck Owens and Roy Clark.
It looked good in color!
-
Vibes for MR BK's leading lady.
-
So what is the producer of the Partridge Family doing now?
-
This is really a good season of The Amazing Race.
I like all of the teams that are left - except one.
-
DR JED always had something interesting to post.
-
I can imagine that he is a good director.
-
The pair of keets are taking it easy today and enjoying the open window and the fresh air.
-
It is 81 degrees.
-
Wikipedia tells us that the very well-received (and 9-time-Tony nominated) musical SHUCKED partially derived from a HEE HAW musical. SHUCKED even has a character named Lulu.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shucked
"Shucked was partially derived from one of [Robert] Horn's earlier projects, 2015's Moonshine: That Hee Haw Musical. Sources seem to differ on whether Shucked should be considered an evolution of or completely separate from Moonshine, as the only elements remaining from the 2015 show are two songs and that one character is named Lulu."
-
Controversy sells tickets!
-
Did DR CHAS SMITH say he had TWO rehearsals today?
And that yesterday he accepted another gig?
He's gonna be rolling in dough.
-
Kin I borry $5?
-
Side note re HEE HAW and SHUCKED:
"Lulu" in the Broadway musical SHUCKED was played by Alex Newell, who won the Tony for that role.

Speaking of Lulu Roman (R.I.P.), I have a freeform comedy/music/audio clips record by a guy named Murray Roman, who was part of the Smothers Bros. writing team and put out this curio called, “You Can’t Beat People Up and Have Them Say I Love You.” Hippie-era artifact.
-
JohnG, that was my first time seeing Charley Chase. Can’t say I loved it, but now I see legs everywhere I go.
-
I do enjoy Lupe Velez though.

Kids these days would say the Pope’s musical taste is kinda “mid.”

-
DR FREDDIE that was a fun clip.
Who plays Sandra Dee? I couldn't pick out anyone in the bows that might be her.
-
I saw Charley Chase in a couple of shorts in those ubiquitous shorts compilations of the 1960's.
My favorite was one about a wedding and bride and groom.....
-
Yesterday at the getting place, I bought the ingredients for a dish I love but one that I have never attempted.
Tomorrow is the day.....I shall try it for my last non-theeder weekend.
We shall see what happens.

Side note re HEE HAW and SHUCKED:
"Lulu" in the Broadway musical SHUCKED was played by Alex Newell, who won the Tony for that role.
And Alex won for best actor in a musical.
-
I'd seen an interview with the creators of the show where they specified that the character of Lulu is cis-gender female. They just thought that Alex was the best person to play the role.

-
Watching a very bad motion picture, but I'll endure it to the end, as it's about a subject and era I know very well.
-
Horribly directed by one of its stars - that's part of it.
-
Terrible screenplay - that's another part of it.
-
Shot in Canada rather than where it takes place - so, no real sense of time and place.
-
That's another part of it.
-
Billy Crystal in his early stand-up days was pretty funny.

Thanks! I did my homework by listening to the concept album yesterday. So I’ll be ready for any adaptation questions. 😀

WSJ had a column today about the Criterion release of Jean de Florette/Manon of the Springs. It didn’t really talk about anything Criterion did to the films, and nothing about extras, but the writer made me want to watch them again.

For some reason I was feeling absolutely exhausted yesterday

I arrived home from WFO’s house about 715 and sat in the recliner
-
Closed my eyes for a moment to rest before making dinner

When I opened them it was 540

I used the necessary, had a glass of oj and my levithyroxine and sat down in the recliner

Immediately the alarm rang…at 7 am

I was still feeling tired all day

I wanted to try a Japanese coleslaw recipe, but it called for boniato flakes. I just didn’t have any on hand. So, I googled substitutes. Turns out I could use mackerel powder or dried shiitake mushrooms instead.

I am back from (as DR Jrand74 rightly notes) not one, but two (count 'em) rehearsals.
The first was the final band rehearsal before tech week for SpongeBottle. The second was a tech rehearsal for Saturday's concert by the Ridgefield Chorale, at which nothing tech-y was ready for prime time and the director was fit to be tied. But she's a fine lady and very smart at putting things together, and I know tomorrow's final dress rehearsal will succeed at doing double duty as both tonight's failed tech and its own rehearsal. If that made any sense.
-
DR Jrand74, when I collect the funds due me for all of this pye-ano playin', I'll be off to Washington DC to make those OTHER silly billionaires quiver in their boots.

You do what'cha gotta do.
-
Tonight's Into the Woods rehearsal went pretty well.
-
At the last minute...well, about four hours before rehearsal was supposed to start, our Cinderella's prince texted me, saying that a family thing come up, so he couldn't come to rehearsal tonight.
-
The only people called tonight were the Baker, the Baker's Wife and Cinderella's prince. ::)
-
Fortunately, the director said that with needing to reschedule the choreography that wasn't able to happen last night to next Wednesday, the stuff that C's P needs to go through can be done at that time, too, so that's good.
-
It was really only a few pages with him and the Baker's Wife, so it wasn't such a loss of time.
-
It's no skin off my nose, but as long as the director and choreographer can adjust, all is well. :)
-
And because of C's P not being there, B and B's W got to work a couple of other scenes that were planned for Saturday's rehearsal, so that time can be shorter.
-
Huzzah!! :D

Over the last several days, I've been listening to other cast recordings of Into the Woods.

I have the:
Original Broadway cast recording (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Into-the-Woods-1987-Original-Broadway-Cast/2787)
Original London cast recording (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Into-the-Woods-1991-Original-London-Cast/1347)

2022 Broadway revival cast recording (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Into-the-Woods-2022-Broadway-Cast/47128)
:D
-
As for favorites, of course, the OBC is definitive (in my opinion), but I love the pictures from the London production. They're very European, and living several years as a kid in Germany (and having a German mother), I love the scenic and set designs.
-
The German cast recording is kind of weird. The Baker's Wife sings too prettily and much more in her head voice than any of the other recordings. It's a choice, but maybe not the best choice. ::) And it's only highlights (and unusual choices there, too), so that's more frustrating than anything else.
-
Still page SIX?
-
What the HELL is going on here?
-
The Barcelona recording is pretty complete, and I really enjoy all the performers on the latest Broadway revival recording, and the movie soundtrack is not bad (but I miss what's not in the movie, so that's frustrating, too).
-
Well, at least we got past page six, but really.
