Just wanted to pop in and wish everyone a good day.
Laters!
Sadly, the power ball was not won by me, because I did not buy a ticket :(
DR MATTH is correct about DDD delivery - so anything I WANT and MUST HAVE that I am not going to get at WalMart or Target (surprisingly well-priced DVD's) I get at Amazon. Otherwise, I wait....and wait....and wait.
And yes those Disney NON-soundtracks were always disappointing to bring home. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....especially since the Disneyland singers were NEVER too swift to begin with. I can bet tbat Walt scraped the bottom of the barrel for a lot of them.... And they are still being sold!
7 Faces of Dr. Lao: This is not (repeat, not) a joke--Michael Jackson owns the rights to this film and has been talking about starring in a remake of it for years. Let the jokes begin.....
The WINNIE THE POOH Disneyland LP is magnificent. It features the real voice of Pooh, though not Tigger, but great arrangements by the late Camarata.
DR ROn, I'm glad you liked THE 7 FACES OF DR. LAO. It is one of my all-time favorite fantasy films, and just reading your reaction made me long to see it again soon.
I also adore that sprightly theme music Leigh Harline came up with for the film.
Disney/Disneyland soundtracks: Well, try growing up in a household with a Sears manager for a father. :) Sears used to issue its own knock-off "soundtracks" and I'll never forget how angry I was at my Dad when he brought home the Sears version of Mary Poppins when my best friend Corey had just gotten the "real" soundtrack. I think this was the beginning of that long slippery slope of collecting "authentic" items. :P

Did anyone else ever think the song was actually "My body lies over the ocean?" It always concerned me as a child...
The 7 Faces of Dr Jackson
Toland and Hawks both look ready to take a bite out of her....

Has anyone else here received his or her influenza vaccine yet?
Tomovoz is gone. Without comment. Possibly without even having seen any comments made by me about his "lurking" status.
Just...POOF...he's vanished from lurkdom.
Perhaps, though, the Birds got him...swooped in upon him and disconnected his power and -- even now -- are roosting on every square inch of his property waiting for him to dare set foot outside.
I do hope Magnus and Fosca will protect him.
Walty and Killbot update- I have twice spied Killbot licking Walty's head and ear.
Of course when it happened just now, she followed it up with a chomp on the neck... but I'm feeling hopeful.
Powerball update: They just announced the winning ticket was sold in southern Oregon.
Jane....Keith....remember who sent you the lovely flowers as you drive to Salem to claim your winnings. ;)
The dancing I used to do in our garage while playing the above was, shall we say, interperative? ::)
Jose why is Patrick Cassidy a blond in the show? In the photo on his web-site he has dark hair. Any chance you will be with the show in April when it plays in Portland?
My one and only real children’s album was my Hopalong Cassidy storybook album. I could turn the pages of a book while listening to the stories. I could listen to it every day.
Playbill.com just announced that ONCE UPON A MATTRESS will finally air on Dec. 18.
Hoppy was my favorite. During some Christmas or other, I had a Hoppy outfit consisting of hat, shirt and guns. My mother has a photo of me wearing them somewhere.
I later got (and no longer have, drat the luck) a Hopalong Cassidy wristwatch.
Later, but while I was still a kid (9 or 10 instead of 5 or 6), I got a Paladin gun/holster set for Christmas. Even had the business cards (Have Gun, Will Travel! Wire Paladin, San Francisco).
I guess Annie Oakley was before your time, DR Jane.
Vibers for the Vixter.
I guess it's true what they say about Long Island being a real hornets' nest.
We will be seeing Jason soon at Chelsea Clearview Cinemas, Where Dreams Come True (just don't drink and drag, this could happen to you). Tonight's selection is Vertigo
Jane, thanks for the Danise update , I was wondering if I should call her at home but I think I'll leave it a day and let her rest.
I am concerned, however, that she may be in the path of this latest hurricane....it looks as if it's expected to go straight through her part of Florida. :P

Tomovoz was long gone before you appeared DR RLP. Sometimes names stay listed for oh so long.
Question for the movie guys: Did Jean Simmons ever get thown to the lions in a movie? Partner Colin thought it was in "The Robe". It isn't. "Spartacus? Androcles?
Yeah! I know it wasn't the "Lion in winter" or "Clarence the Crosseyed Lion" or "Born Free" or "The Young Lions"
...Love to hear some opposing opinions to Batman Begins - then we can do our own version of Ebert and Roeper right here at haineshisway.com....Der B just bought a copy. Have no idea when we'll get to it, though.
Question for the movie guys: Did Jean Simmons ever get thown to the lions in a movie? Partner Colin thought it was in "The Robe". It isn't. "Spartacus? Androcles?Oh, you mean real lions. I thought you were talking about critics.
Yeah! I know it wasn't the "Lion in winter" or "Clarence the Crosseyed Lion" or "Born Free" or "The Young Lions"
Those industrial shows can be quite enjoyable. I have one that is from a LIFE magazine holiday or anniversary party or something. It's called "Life, A Revue." There are songs about how to attract more subscribers, songs about why magazines are better than TV, odes to Governor Rockefeller and other time capsule material.
They are fun because they were never intended to be heard outside of a certain group of people, and yet the effort put into some of them is substantial.
If not "The Robe" or "Spartacus" could it be Demetrius And The Gladiators, the sequel to Androcles? I must admit a tendency for my memory to combine these movies, therefore I don’t trust said memory that says it is “Spartacus”.I only said it wasn't "The Robe". My questions were possibilities.
I only said it wasn't "The Robe". My questions were possibilities.
"Diana" is going on her way to be an Archery target at the end of "The Robe". Maybe she met Demetrius on the way.
I have them all confused too DR Jane. "D & the G" was a sequel to "The Robe".
Maybe it wasn't the lions. Did she and Victure Mature get pushed off the end of a cliff?
Just got handed Sondheim Sings Volume II, 1946-60. Cool.
Playbill.com just announced that ONCE UPON A MATTRESS will finally air on Dec. 18.
td have you returned to normal?
No....Victor reunited with Michael Rennie (TheBig Fisherman) and found anew his Christianity.
Susan (Messalina) stood beside her husband Claudius and vowed to be a proper wife for Caesar (historically inaccurate, of course...Messalina was the one who took on Rome's most prolific prostitutes in a brothel competition, and won handily).
I'm now wondering if you are remembering Debra Paget and Louis Jourdan in "Bird of Paradise".
Or, Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in "Joe vs. the Volano"?
TPunk I was referring to the Margaritas. I do not to go anywhere near that freaky, scary album. ;D
LOL.That's "The Robe"
It is one of the biblical movies. At the end the, very much in love, couple dies because they won’t denounce their Christianity. You don’t see them die, the camera just fades off into the clouds or something.
*I also spied they guy playing Pharaoh(Elvis) last night... Boy does he look good in that gold wrap thing around his waist.
Aughghghghghghgh! :D
If Jean Simmons was ever thrown to the lions, it would have been in "Androcles and the Lion."
We watched "The Robe" the other night. Hence the questions. Colin had misremembered the ending and was expecting lions!
As far as I can tell Danise & Michael Shayne only have storms to worry about. Speaking of Michael, where are you?
As anyone found a good site to track Wilma?
Well, I learned today that the Styne employee who held up my DARLING OF THE DAY contract from Sept 2004 to now is telling folk that I screwed up by not finishing the score for the April 2005 Muft performances. As I told him in April, I don't work without a contract and your delays screwed up the dates for the copyist to prepare the parts. I will not be a scapegoat for administrative incompetence.
I'm not sure that her performace "rang"true Michael.
Well certainly not Marlon's and Frank's performances!
What's the use of wondering.?
Margaritas at my house if anyone wants to get drunk and rip on it with me ;)
Hi Michael. Is it rainging? From what I can tell Wilma shouldn't head your way. Am I correct?
Wasn't that Shirley Jones?Clambaking before she took up partridge shooting as a hobby.
I need to get up and move around-'night.
Wasn't that Shirley Jones? No, it was Marni Nixon. . .
Just to remind that Kelsey Grammer's version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL aired on SUnday night last year during December to DISMAL ratings.
And ONCE UPON A MATTRESS isn't even a holiday-themed musical.
Wonder how many songs from the original will make it into this version. No TV version yet has done the music justice.
TOTD: DR Colin was (and still is) fond of "Sparky and The Magic Piano". Also Tubby the Tuba (To which I seem to have a resemblance these days).
I enjoyed "Peter, Paul & Mommy" and played it to my niece and nephew.
LOL.
I did not see "Joe vs the Volcano" after hearing the ending was horrible. I'm sorry to say I don't remember, or never saw "Bird of Paradise".

Jean Simmons was always beautiful no matter what happened to her.

An open letter to Joseph Brooks, whose new musical In My Life just opened at the Music Box.
Dear Mr. Brooks:
Congratulations! You've achieved something that few people ever will: You've written an original musical that's opened on Broadway. That takes a lot of determination, courage, and fortitude. I won't speculate on how it compares to making and scoring your own film, which you did with You Light Up My Life in 1977, but it's nonetheless a noteworthy accomplishment.
What's even more remarkable is that, as with your movie, you've done it all yourself: producing; directing; writing the music, lyrics, and libretto. Those are five hefty hats to wear - many of musical theatre's most respected talents never attempted so much. Lyricists have written musical books, composers have written lyrics, and some brave souls have written everything. But even they generally stop there, because they realize how vital collaboration is in the creation of great musicals.
After all, even the best writers need someone to help shape the material and provide an outsider's perspective. A writer can easily get trapped in his own little world, especially if he's directing his own work, and not realize what he's doing that's preventing his vision from being adequately communicated to the audience. In short, he needs someone to say "no" every once in a while.
And, Mr. Brooks, as you have apparently not been so blessed during the creative process of In My Life, I'm going to do that for you now.
<<<CUT>>>
I must be honest with you, though: I doubt In My Life will find the success those shows have. But whatever happens, you've likely written the weirdest Broadway musical that most people will ever see. Not the worst, mind you, or even the worst this season - Lennon and The Blonde in the Thunderbird have lowered that bar farther than you could ever reach. But you still have a lot to learn, though please, don't lose your passion or individuality. We're in desperate need of them right now.
Regardless, welcome to Broadway, Mr. Brooks, and feel free to come back again. But do us - and yourself - a favor: Don't return alone.
DR Ron Pulliam - Have you tried salt water up your nose? Very old-fashioned, but still very effective.
I'm going to head toward bed now.
Will hopefully be back tomorrow.
Good night!
No, it was Marni Nixon. . .
Tomovoz,-LOL. That was my first thought but you said it wasn't "The Robe". I know, it really wasn't cause they weren't tossed to the lions.
Aren't she and Burton heading to their deaths at the end of "The Robe"?
Joey: Every musical I was ever involved with became ingrained in my brain. I've been involved with some very good ones, too, but I think it would have been nirvana to have had "Sweeney Todd" a part of my life night after night.
No. Shirley Jones sang her own songs in "Carousel," including "What's the Use of Wonderin'".I think td was alluding to a previous post re Jean Simmons and "Guys & Dolls". "If I were A Bell".
