bk, you may want to give Weill's Symphony No. 2 another chance. I find it very similar in style to Seven Deadly Sins and Der Silbersee, which were all written around the same time. The Symphony No. 1 was much earlier and pretty much a student exercise.

I guess I'm confused because maybe our screens are just different.  On your screen, aren't the names of the HHW-ers fairly large even when there are no avatars?

I'm so used to reading the comments sections of the New York Times which really have no avatars other than the screen name, or All that Chat where it's just the screen name next to the postings.  And even Facebook - While Facebook has profile photos next to the comments, they're so small that the profile photos don't identify anyone for me.

Got some piano work to do this morning before I head out to an early Chicago rehearsal.

Tonight I must listen to a recording of a song for which we have a decent sheet music transcription, then make my own recording of the accompaniment for our singer.

And of course, since it's been a few days, there will be a covering-to-an-inch of you-know-what tonight.

I'm just hoping for no "mix", since there will supposedly be some to the south of us. Just give me something I can leaf-blow away, please.

Please.

Cookies.

When I was a kid, we'd just have store bought ones around - Fig Newtons and Oreos, certainly, but also some oatmeal and chocolate chip, or just sugar cookies. Nothing too interesting from my perspective now, but I'm sure I enjoyed all of them then. I was probably less enamored of the Fig Newtons, though. I never enjoyed eating as many of those in one sitting as I did others.

Fast-forward to getting out of school and moving to L.A. -- I'm pretty sure the next kind of cookies I warmed up to were Mrs. Field's chocolate chip, when I was out and about, and a little later, David's, which seemed even better to me although I never compared the two side by side. I never did develop the habit of keeping cookies around at home, though. I didn't have that kind of sweet tooth in those years.

Later, I'd start buying the dry mixes at the supermarket and making some from those now and then. I really liked doing that, and controlling how chewy or crisp they'd be. Definitely love the chewy, always and forever. Oatmeal raisin and peanut butter were favorites, and those really are my favorites today, regardless of the source.

In recent years, it's store bought ones, but the type from the bakery departments, not the packaged national brands. An exception to that is an occasional purchase of Oreos. I especially like the mint ones because the flavors remind me of the Girl Scout thin mints. Lately, though, post-pandemic, I've been so pissed at the downsizing AND price increase on the bakery ones I liked that I've bought very few.

We finished the season of THE LINCOLN LAWYER last night.  After watching the first five episodes one per day, the plot really took off and we stayed and semi-binged, watching episodes 6 through 10 in one evening.

Another clever twist at the end of the final (tenth) episode, that for fans of the series, make you really look forward to the next season.
Title: Re: THE FIX IS IN

Elliott Gould, whose performance in LINCOLN LAWYER episode 5 seemed off and I was surprised they didn't choose to reshoot, was better in episode 6, but still a bit off.

It was enough to make me wonder if Mr. Gould himself is OK.

Keith got Wordle in two.  His opening word was very good, and then he picked the correct word out of several options.

That's fantastic!  Congrats to Keith!

Do Oreos not have expiration or "use by" dates on them?

They might DR FREDDIE but I doubt that any of the packages reach that date.

If you didn't get to see the Men's Short Program, I think it is being repeated in Prime Time tonight on NBC.

Lots of fun.

The skaters work so hard.....but I think some of them defeat themselves by their music choices....and some of the costumes are....outre....as they say.

I am looking forward to the L O N G program in a day or so.

Go, Ilia!!!

So different from Nathan Chen....who was great....but in comparison was kind of boring.

Had a really fun conversation with actor Barry Gordon, who you might remember from his childhood days - starred in A Thousand Clowns on B'way and in the movie, but began way before that - he's in The Girl Can't Help It briefly but memorably with Jayne Mansfield.

The big change this time is no overtly political attire. Before you couldn’t wear something or someone that was on the ballot. This time, no MAGA hats, no anything pro or anti Republican or Democrat. Pride shirts are okay, though.

Because there were really young kids there, they whitewashed a few lyrics. My favorite was Cunegonde singing “If I’m not sure, at least my jewels are.”

;D

Well, that's better than "This and That" in A Chorus Line.

In Anything Goes, the singer didn’t mention silly gigolos, but men who write smooth prose.

I've seen kids perform "I Get a Kick Out of You," and they, of course, change the line about cocaine.

Topic of the Day:  growing up, I think my mom made either chocolate chip with walnuts (my favorite) or peanut butter cookies (probably next favorite) most often, but for store bought, I have always loved Oreos. :)

I really like the Oreo Cakesters, but I guess they really are small cakes rather than cookies.

I've found that I like the idea of them more than the actual cookie-cake.  They're certainly not bad, but for me they're just not quite right. :-\

I got the photos posted okay, but they're showing up as big blank spaces - trying to fix that, but if you click within the blank spaces they do show up. Then you have to use your back button to go back to the notes. Hopefully, it will be fixed shortly. When they do these updates, then the security protocols change and have to be reset.
