Title: MEMORIES OF BUD
Post by: bk on February 12, 2026, 12:36:19 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes contained memories of Bud, and now it is time for you to post until the memories of cows come home.

Last night on TCM I caught part of yet another movie I somehow never saw, Charley Varrick (1973) with Walter Matthau. I'd never had any idea what kind of film it was, and it looked interesting enough that I will make sure I see it all the way through one of these days.

Up next (at midnight) was another Matthau one called Voice in the Mirror (1958) which I don't know at all. I wasn't up for trying to stay awake through it so I recorded it to the DVR for proper watching. Maybe this evening.

My favorite Bud Cort performance was in Robert Altman’s Brewster McCloud. And of course, Harold and Maude was up there too.

Last year, or thereabouts, the Bedford Playhouse showed Harold and Maude on one of their classic film nights. I hadn't seen it since sometime in the previous millenium, and it was something of a revelation, seen properly on that screen.

Since we're short on posts, I'll add a presumably unnecessary 107,000-post Millstone Alert about John G - feels like it could be any time now.

Wonderful notes!

The two films mentioned by DR JOHN G, of course.

My brother and I went to a drive in one Sunday night and the two features were Judge Roy Bean and Harold and Maude.

I liked it so much I went back the next four nights Mon-Thurs to see H/M.....twice by myself. The shows changed on Friday.

From Bruce,

Quote
Images in the notes are fixed. Tomorrow he'll see what's what with the avatars. On Friday or the weekend, the board will go down for a couple of hours again while they split the board to its own thing so it's not tied to the notes part - that will solve most of what's been plaguing us.

I'm glad the images are fixed.  I seem to be the only person who has trouble actually reading the notes now, at least I didn't receive a response when I asked.  I need the print darker.

Since I reminded Keith of his Wordle post on my FB page four years ago, he posted this today.

Four years ago today, Keith bravely entered the arena known as Wordle.

What began as a humble five-letter fling turned into a full-scale campaign of linguistic domination. Fast forward to today: the beast has been tamed, the archives exhausted, and the dictionary now trembles slightly when he logs in.

Current streak: 895

Yes, eight hundred and ninety-five. At this point, vowels reveal themselves voluntarily. Indeed, Wordle wakes up each day hoping Keith sleeps in!

When James Van Der Beek announced his diagnosis....he didn't really say much about his treatment.

But in a People Magazine story about it, he was shown wearing a t-shirt and doing some exercises.

I saw the outline of the ostomy bag & related items - which I recognized because it's what I wear.
