Well, you've read the notes, they were brief and to the point and also to the point and brief, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're attending a bris right now.

And the word of the day is: HUBRIS!
-
Broken leg vibes to Linda's show!
Continued broken leg vibes to Deceit!
Also have a safe journey to Whittier tomorrow bk....
found a nifty book that the library was weeding from its collection....
a beat up copy of 10 Little Indians by Agatha Christie. I got it for a dime.

Poor Tammy has a sore neck. We believe it happened on Thursday's performance rather than last night's, when Matt had a brain lapse and accidentally did something earlier than he normally does - we think she had a bit of whiplash. I told her to ice her neck, relax, think positive thoughts, and then to take a nice long hot shower to wash all pain down the drain.
-
HUBRIS, baby, HUBRIS!
-
Had trouble logging on, and now everyone's gone. :(
-
No HuBris here, just a HuBarMitzvah.

It's quiet in the City of York that is New at 4:30 in the morning. I thought this was the city that never sleeps.
On to take the day and an early flight.
I could have used a trivia question to get my brain going, but I guess coffee will have to do.
-
I hope it's OK to do this, Danise - I'll say a prayer for you to heal very quickly while I'm at the Shabbos service in Boca later this morning. Continued vibes to you, this time it'll be from within your actual home state.
-
And with that, time to wake up Skip and really get into the day. We haven't done back-and-forth travel in one day since we went to see Dear Friend Maureen in FALSETTOS in Pittsburgh lo these many years ago.
Good Shabbos, all.

Morning all. Wish I had better news but I had a pretty rough night. I miss my hosptial bed.
I could move it up and down to get out of it. I had a very hard time laying on my flat bed and even harder time trying to get out of it. I just hope I don't hurt myself inside.
Maybe I should have stayed in the hospital another night or two.
-

Thank you, DR FJL. I'm honored that you would think about me. :)
-
Good morning, all! And a special good morning wish for speedy recovery to you, DR Danise! Yes, maybe you should have stayed an extra day, but I understand the urge to get out of there as soon as possible! I suspect the pain has less to do with your injuring yourself as much as your body is realizng the pain from being cut and stitched. Still, at the first sign of anything not good, call 911!!!!!!
I went to bed at 9:30 last night, totally exhausted, and slept until 9 this morning. This means I'm either fighting something or my body needed a long pause to reconnect the dots. I'm now puttering about, I will work on Toyland at home for a bit, tidy up, and maybe hit the NYPL Theatre Collection at noon.
DRs TPunk and Rodzinski, I would have loved to see CAPOTE!
DR Ann, incontestable proof? What's on that video DR Jed sent me?
TOD: Right now I can think of very little British fro mthe 1960s except for the Beatles and "Ferry Cross the Mersey," which our neighbor Jean Tilton thought was "Very Customary," but the costumer in the Miami U Theatre Dept thought "Mr Tambourine Man" was "Mr Tangerine Man."

Good morning!
And a special hello to DR Danise whom I see on-line. Sorry you had a rough night. Hope you can rest throughout the day to regain strength little by little. Best wishes for continued recovery.
-
Once again, we have a gray day here (but not cold). The clouds may remain today since they're predicting a shower later today.
Tomorrow supposed to get cold for the day and then a slow warming trend through next week.
-
Speaking of uncomfortable nights, I strained my back a couple of days ago - the small of my back very sore, so lying flat in the bed is not especially comfortable for me, either. I had a horrible night of sleep two nights ago, but a better one last night.
I have a sofa here that has heat and massage capabilities on each end, and I've been partaking of its comforts for 30 minute stretches a couple of times during the last two days.
It's just hell getting old!
-
Today, I'll finish LILI while preparing and eating lunch. Then, I'll probably watch WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS or KISS OF DEATH.
Tononight, I'll finish the first disc of FIREFLY and then put in Disc 3 of the CSI set which I was surprised to find I had skipped when I was going through the set during the past couple of weeks.
-
And the word of the day is: HUBRIS!
I have a friend named Hugh, but I don't think he had a bris. No, I really don't think so at all. He and his partner, Len, are very main line Philadelphia, quite old school and old money. Then again, I could always ask, the next time I see him. He'd probably be quite amused by the question.
-
One thing I wondered about while watching LILI last night. In Leslie Caron's first dream sequence when she's dressed voluptuously as a rival to ZsaZsa Gabor's Rosalie, in the long shots that had a few quick steps, was that director Charles Walters as Paul? I didn't pause the DVR to study the figure but it didn't look like Mel Ferrer there.

DR Elmore, I heard that Patrick Wilson has started "Barefoot in the Park". I have no real interest in him but his father is the news anchor on one of our local stations.

Mother didn't allow rock and roll in the house, British or otherwise. It gave her headaches. I was forced to listen to showtunes instead.
No, really!
-
I'm up, I'm up. Why am I up? I didn't have to get up until eight-thirty and yet I'm up at seven o'clock.
Excellent vibes and xylophones to Danise.
-
DR Elmore, I heard that Patrick Wilson has started "Barefoot in the Park". I have no real interest in him but his father is the news anchor on one of our local stations.
John Wilson, Patrick's father, was news anchor here for several years while Patrick was a teenager. He (Patrick) was well known in theater circles here as a kid.
-
Yes, I really don't have an answer for today's topic because I simply was not into rock 'n roll during that period (or ever). Any music I heard like the Beatles was played by my brother, so I'd hear "She Loves You" or "I Saw Her Standing There" coming from his bedroom, but I didn't pay much attention. I'd go into my room and crank up the cast album to MAME.
-
Would Petula Clark's million sellers be considered British rock/pop, or were they American? If yes, then I would say I loved "Downtown," "My Love," and "Don't Sleep in the Subway."
-
Page Two BROTHER BEAR Dance!!!
-
Bear has been a really good boy. Mom said he missed me while I was gone. He went to my door and cried--she tried to comfort him.
He climbed up in bed with me last night. Very gently I might add and as I type this, he is laying next to me.
I'm trying to stay in my chair since the bed isn't as comfortable as I thought it would be. I will switch to the couch in a bit so I can take a little nap.
That was the best part of coming home. I finely did get some good sleep.
-
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr....must go to work NOW.... Some people have emergencies EVERY day!
TOD: Concrete & Clay
-
Saturday greetings! I've been at work almost 2 hours, now, DR JRand (if that's any comfort).
Speaking of comfort, I hope you get some, DR Danise! I was going to suggest a recliner chair for sleeping for the next few days.

I must say, Ferry Cross The Mersey was always in my top ten Brit rock-and-roll songs.

Ferry 'Cross the Mersey? I always thought it was Fairy, like the one in the garden.
Well, that changes everything, doesn't it?

When i was growing up I was not an overly large fan of the oldies station so I am gonig to take a wild guess who was British.... My first taste of music from the 50s and 60s was on American Graffiti and the tv show Happy Days. MOre of a fan of stuff from the late 70s to today....
These are a few songs from Brit Invasion that I do like...
Downtown by Petula Clark
American Woman by the Guess Who
Beatles stuff.... I know they were from the 60s....
Bee Gees -- I think they also recorded back in the 60s.
Looking at the other posts I recognize the songs but had not idea who sang them :)

From George:
Thanks Jane and everyone for the Vibes! I'm feeling a bit better now and I was actually able to take a nap for a couple of hours after getting back from Costco, but I will certainly sleep well tonight.
I usually got the LitterPurrfect brand at Costco, but they didn't have any. I had to get the big giant bucket of Scoop Away that claims to be 99.9% dust free. WRONG! I dumped it into the cat box and POOF! dust everywhere. Fortunately, it settled and Ebonie (my cat) doesn't seem to have a problem with it...so far.
Glad you are feeling better.
It was the LitterPurrfect we used for close to a year before realizing the negative effects of it.
-
From M Barnum:
I should go and see Capote while it is still playing in Salem...but I really want to see 8 Degrees.
I say yes, see 8 BELOW! Did you like Capote? We thought it was great.
-
Bruce, I'm so sorry about your Actor. LA is crawling with 40-ish character men... a plethora could learn the piece within a few days, and feel privileged to step into such a richly drawn part. Go for it.
Just by the way, I had the wonderful experience of being directed by BK when I was a nineteen year old wannabe - he is very much a collaborative artist, an actor's director. However, he does DIRECT - with an eye to the WHOLE show. I can see how an actor who is blinded by his own greatness would be hampered and constrained by having to mesh with a playwright's story and other actors' performances during a run.
-
Good Afternoon!
Hmm... Looks like I have a bit of catching up to do...
In the meantime...
Talk amongst yourselves...

The "Guess Who" were a North American Band Dakota Celt.
The Seekers and The Bee Gees were (for the most part Australian but recorded internationally. The Brothers Gibb (not including Andy) were UK born. Judith Durham (lead of the Seekers) was born in Sri Lanka.

Ferry 'Cross the Mersey? I always thought it was Fairy, like the one in the garden.

-
Why would a garden fairy be trying to cross the Mersey River?
To get a new pacemaker?

To get a new pacemaker?
Or a new Gerry?

Or possibly to find a "Randy Scouse Git".

Back from errands to find us on page two? This will NOT do, oh, no, this will NOT do. Some people feel a song comin' on - I feel a bitch-slappin' comin' on and let me tell you I will bitch slap everyone from here to eternity and hell and back at the slightest provocation.
That said, I shall now be on my way to Miss Linda Purl's and we shall then be on our way to a place called Whittier for a walk-through and then the performance.
I do hope to see many, many more posts upon my return much later this evening.

I did not realize that the Guess Who was American, thanks for the clarification....
Love the Bee Gees. A good friend of mine actually got to meet them several times.... Lucky Girl!!
I feel woefully ignorant of that time period... Now later 70s into the 80s, I would do better...

Love Paul McCartney and Rod Stewart and both are fine singers...

I have heard a few of the tunes that Tomovoz has listed.. Dusty Springfield was British?
Sorry to be so ignorant but when you are a little kid as I was at this time, one tends to rebel and refuse to listen to what your parents like.... Also a lot of ND stations were country at that time....
-
Don't be frightened, little children. Come sit on my rod. I mean, my lap.

Whoops! Should have checked. Guess their "American Women" threw me off the nationality.
-
"Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying" Great choice.
Also, MBarnum with The Tremeloes. My fave is "Silence is Golden"
Freddie and the Dreamers, "I'm Telling You Now"
Zombies "Time of the Season"
Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich: "The Legend of Xanadu"
Badfinger: "Day After Day" That's a brilliant song...
-
The Guess Who is actually Canadian!
Rodzinski is back!!!
Did not know that...
The only Canadian artists I know of fairly well are Bryan Adams, Jan Arden, Loreena McKennit, Ashley MacIsaac, Natalie MacMaster, Michelle Shocked, Laura McDonald, Bare Naked Ladies, Gordon Lightfoot, Anne Murray....
They are all later 70s to today...
-
Winnipeg it seems.
Clap Hands For the Wolfman and for Rodzinski. The Albert Flasher of HHW. Well maybe not.
Forgot all about the Bachman Turner Overdrive Connection too.. I'm losing it.
-
Forgot to list Dave Dee and friends.. "Bent It" was a terrific song too. Also loved much of the Hollies material. (Great Band in concert). Love "Stop Stop Stop" and "Bus Stop" is a cute story song.
Manfred Mann's pop stuff was also great as was the Paul Jones material.
-

Nah, you are not loosing Tomovoz.....
-
Now you're rolling, Tomovoz!
Hollies: "Pay You Back With Interest" and "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother"
Those are my faves.
-
Who else is Canadian?
Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Rush, Alanis Morissette...
-
The "fifteen minutes to closing" announcement was just made here at the library. Bye for now!
-
I don't know from 60s or 70s British groups...or British groups, really. ::) I remember in the mid-1970s, my parents had an album of songs by British groups like (The?) Herman's Hermits, but I don't remember which songs were sung by which groups. Actually, Herman's Hermits is the only group that I can remember from that album and the only song that I can remember is "Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter."
-
Another two big 70s Brit hits I loved:
"Billy Don't Be A Hero" by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods
and
"The Night Chicago Died" by Paper Lace
-
"Gasoline Alley Bred" is excellent too.
Lesser known song "I'm Down" has brilliant lyrics with which I can identify very strongly. (Mr Nash's autobiographical stuff with C,S & N is also very interesting).
-
Who else is Canadian?
Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Rush, Alanis Morissette...
I forgot abotu those three...
I like Alanis's Jagged Little Pill album
Joni Mitchell has recorded with the Chieftains.
-
I meant to list that song, George. My sister married into the Brown name, and so I can sing that song to her about my nieces. Actually two of my sisters married guys named Brown, but unrelated guys. The other sis has a boy, no girls.
Other Hermits goodies for me: "I'm Into Something Good" and "No Milk Today"
-
I'm not the only one losing it! LOL. I feel better now.
Bo Donaldson is from Cincinatti. A cover version of Paper Lace's British Hit.
-
"Answer song" by Sharon Black - "Mother Dear You've Got A Silly Daughter" should be of use to you too Rodzinski!
-
Who else is Canadian?
Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Rush, Alanis Morissette...
...Avril Lavigne ...
-
Glad you are feeling better.
It was the LitterPurrfect we used for close to a year before realizing the negative effects of it.
I liked the LitterPurrfect. I may have to take the Scoop Away back, though! It says right on the bucket "99.9% Dust Free," but even just scooping out the litter produces so much dust that it's starting to bother me! And I've only had it a few days! :P

Paul Anka
The Diamonds
Four Lads
All from Canada but perhaps more associated with late fifties/early sixties music.

Yes, I am in a support group. I'm up to step 5: I have admitted to God, to myself and to another human being (i.e., HHW) the exact nature of my wrongs. However, I am not quite (step 6): entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

British? I never knew. It is one of my all time favorite songs.
Press story here was that Paper Lace were so full of themselves they expected to be given the "key to the city" for their "tribute" to Chicago.. Good Grief!

I might need to join Joy's support group, we have volume 1 & 2 in the jukebox.
Worldwide sales figures would suggest that I'm the one that should be in the support group!
The songs are great - the performance is not.

I’m listening to THE NIGHT CHICAGO DIED. :D
Tomovoz of course Ella was THE greatest, doesn't mean I can't enjoy Rod.
-
Well, the rain arrived right on cue, and made the gray day even drearier.
A great day for curling up by the fire with a good book, spending a leisurely afternoon on the phone with a good friend, or indulging in some great movies on video. I did two of these.
-
Just get Noel to intevene and destroy the Rod Stewart collection.
It's digital... if only he knew how the computer works, he could perform such a dastardly deed. ;)
Go back and listen to Ella's songbooks and all will be forgiven and taste restored.
Oh, I have that stuff too... and my iPod apparently LOVES her 10-minute "Mack the Knife". It comes up every time I do a shuffle. That, and "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight", by England Dan and John Ford Coley.
-
BTW I am not anti Rod Stewart. I really like his "covers" of "Sailing" (the Sutherland Brothers) and "Reason to Believe" (Tim Hardin).
I'm also not anti pop stars singing standards I love the Ronstadt versions and the Nilsson ones.
(I even have Ringo Starr''s "Sentimental Journey")
-
I finished LILI this afternoon. Wonderful, compact film of great joy and tenderness. How wonderful to see it again!

Ella is to Rod as Big Nick's Burger Joint is to McDonald's.
And I LOVE McDonald's. Or, used to. Back when I didn't mind being a fatass.
I would have said McHale's instead of Big Nick's, but... alas. :'(
-
Tonight I'll watch another FIREFLY episode to finish out disc 1, watch the CSI episodes from disc 3 I skipped, and then move on to WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS.
-
A great day for curling up by the fire with a good book, spending a leisurely afternoon on the phone with a good friend, or indulging in some great movies on video. I did two of these.
Yes, curling rocks!!
-
DR Joy. The "I'm not talking about me moving in" line in "I'd Really love To see you" is possibly the hardest ever line to "pick up" in a pop single when every other line is so clear. Great song though.
-
Tomovoz, it’s okay you don’t have to like Rod’s songbook ;) . I too love the Ronstadt versions.

If I were the City of Chicago I would have given Paper Lace the key to the city.
"Daddy was a cop. On the East Side of Chicago. Back in the USA. Back in the Bad Old days!"
Great stuff!
Some people took issue with the fact that Chicago is more of a North Side, South Side town, and has no "East Side", per se. But heck, every place has an east side.

Good. I saw "The Platters" in Branson and I was so confused. ???

There goes my career as a Drifter as well..
Sort of a Bobby Goldsboro reference there.
LOL DR Rodzinski.
Can you make it as a "Supreme"?
-
As usual, right in synch, Tomovoz. I was listening to some Goldsboro earlier today. A Halloween musical he wrote called LUMPKIN THE PUMPKIN.
Maybe I'll change the spelling and go out as a "Supreem"!
-
DR Joy. The "I'm not talking about me moving in" line in "I'd Really love To see you" is possibly the hardest ever line to "pick up" in a pop single when every other line is so clear. Great song though.
I know just what you mean.

Tom-
TPunk and I would rather be skinned alive than listen to Rod's standards collections.
That's what my father-in-law said. Then one day we were having dinner and his wife had a mix cd on that included a Rod Stewart Songbook number, and, after humming along for awhile, he said, "This is great! Who is this singing?"

Ha! I had always thought it was "talkin' 'bout the linen" and that was on there. When my band performs that tune, we have some fun with the challenging lyrics.

I don't think it was Mr Goldsboros's fault that some of us left the Straight Life behind.
-
Yes, I heard from DR td the other day. He's working very long and very unusual hours. DOing fine.
-
Thanks Joy. I would have voted for the Bolivia line!
-
Yes, I read that about Don Knotts earlier. Sorry to see him leave us. Always a wonderful comic actor.
-
Tomovoz, you are a funny little clown!
-
Off now to do some catch-up cleaning chores. Got a little behind with my back strain, so going to see if I can follow-up with them now. Then, off to TV-land.
WBBL.

...I can't believe none of us have metioned THE LEFT BANKE'S Walk Away Renee as a favorite 60s British song! I just now remembered it!
-
THere are a number of groups from the 70s that I like and they went on to record in the 80s:
Fleetwood Mac -- Rumours is my favorite album
Genesis / Phil Collins: There are a couple of albums I really like but a scattering songs I love...
Abba (I know some will find it cheesy but it is fun to dance to)
Bee Gees: Too many to list....
Eagles : I like most of the songs....
Donna Summer (Yes, i was part of the disco scene when I was a kid)
I also liked Pure Prairie League....
Ambrosia
Melissa Manchester
Don McLean: American Pie
Cher had a couple of nice songs then... Bay City Rollers...Blondie.....
does the Dirty Dancing sound track count... I do like soem of the songs onthat one.....
"Do you love me?"
What if funny give me the later editions of Trivial Pursuit and i do very well.... Baby Boomers Edition and I BOMB big time....
-

Possibly because they were a New York group!
I'm in the minority but I always liked the version by The Four Tops.
-
Joy we have had a slew of work people here recently and they have all been pleasantly surprised to learn it was Rod Stewart singing.
I have never been a Don Knotts fan, still I find his passing sad.

Winnipeg it seems.
Clap Hands For the Wolfman and for Rodzinski. The Albert Flasher of HHW. Well maybe not.
Forgot all about the Bachman Turner Overdrive Connection too.. I'm losing it.
BTO recorded, at least, one of their albums in a recording studio in Seattle. The piano part in the song TAKIN' CARE OF BUSINESS (Hmmm, TCB, again) was done by a guy I went to school with in junior high named Norman Durkee. Norman stunned everyone in school when in the 8th grade he performed the WARSAW CONCERTO at our winter band concert.
-
I just heard the news that Don Knotts has died.
-
BK - I did a week long improv workshop at Esalen with Stephen Book back in about 1990. It was great! If you see him again please say hello. Not sure if he'll remember me, but he may.
-
I shall now go and give TCB a spin!! Not the dizzy actor in the NW.
-
I finished LILI this afternoon. Wonderful, compact film of great joy and tenderness. How wonderful to see it again!
Didn't I read that CARNIVAL might return to Broadway?
-
Well today was moving day part 2. I don't think my handy man had any idea how much stuff was left there, but after 5 hours of packing hauling and tossing stuff, we are almost done. I do have about 2 or 3 boxes to take over and fill, but then it's done. The handy man will come back next Saturday and do some work on the old house. Then I'll arrange the cleaning crew and the carpet cleaning and the house will be on the market! Hoo and Ray
-
Didn't BTO get their inspiration for "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" from someone in Tacoma?
Of course that may have been their songs "Flat Broke Love" or "Gimme Your Money Please".
-
I have emptied a number of boxes and found some broken antique glass. Not a lot and nothing that valuable monitarily or sentimentally, but it's broken nonetheless. I really can't do much about it because it's in a box I didn't unpack from the move from the lake. So I don't know who broke it. Such is life

I know that Randy Bachman once knew Tacoma's favorite son, Ted Bundy, but I am not sure what inspiration he would have gotten from him.

He was certainly not the inspiration for popular Oz drink "Bundy and Coke"
(Bundaberg Rum).

There's a production at Papermill Playhose in New Jersey. Disney, I believe, had an option on CARNIVAL for a while.

La da da dee da da!
It's all happening here at the zoo....I mean at HHW.
The Tremeloes singing "Here Comes My Baby" always reminds me of Sunday evenings at the roller skating rink, because the DJ always played this song at least 4 times....it was a LOT of fun to skate to.
"Funny Little Clown" - I really like Brian Hyland's version....but he is NOT British at all!
-
Today in the mail I received my home made DVD of THE STRAWBERRY STATEMENT, so I think I will watch it after a new MADTV.
I am hoping that Ms Linda Purl's show gets a great reception.....the opening number is perfectly chosen!!

DR Jason and I attended a performance of a new play at the The Public Theatre last night called "Measure for Pleasure" by David Grimm. It's an interesting piece. On the posters for the show, there is a Parental Advisory warning of "Explicit Verse". It's basically a quasi-Shakespearian/Restoration/Moliere-ian/Comedy/Drama with a 20th Century twist. I'm not sure if it truly succeeds in blending a style of the past with modern day references and slang, but there were some nice moments along the way.
The cast:
Michael Stuhlbarg
Wayne Knight (yes, Newman from "Seinfeld"
Saxon Palmer
Euan Morton (who spends most of his time on stage in a dress)
Suzanne Bertish
Susan Bloomaert
Emily Swallow
...Handle the material very well - including some rapid-fire rhyming couplets and tongue-twister-like patter. However, they all also seem to come from a different regions of the British Isles. -Who knows? Maybe the "inconsistency" is/was on purpose, but I found it a bit distracting.
The plot has many twists and turns - MANY! - and I even lost track of one important plot device early on. I also thought the play was a bit too long. One act too long. The whole first act seems almost superfluous after the fact. And then the ending... "Where did that come from? and Why?" So...
I can't really give the show a pan or a rave at this time since it just started previews this week. However, I do think some judicious trimming would suit the piece very well. There are truly some long stretches in the play that seem long. -And, yes, I will admit to nodding off a time or two. -And I kept myself awake in the second act by watching other people in the audience try to stay awake. ;) *And the second act runs longer than the first act too, which also added to sense of "long". However, it was plotted better than the first act.
-
Thank you François. Hopefully all those films will get a release here in OZ.

Oh!....
And as DR Jason and I were wrapping up dinner at the Renaissance Restaurant, DR Rodzinski happened to drop by with some goodies for Jason. And then since he was also heading downtown, he joined us for our trip on the subway.
-
DR François - Merci beaucoup for posting the list of the Cesars. And it's nice to see that "The Beat My Heart Skipped" took home a couple of awards - especially since it was an adaptation of a American film. -Usually it's been the other way around with the American product being a bit lacking.

Had a fun evening of DVD entertainment.
First up was an episode of CSI from the disc I skipped in the Season 5 set. Very entertaining as usual.
-
Jose, how much weight have you lost?
You wanna know what?!?!?!?!?
;)
Well...
According the first* number on my scale, I've lost 17 pounds since Thanksgiving. Not bad. -The slower it comes off, the slower it goes back on. Yes, I would have liked to have lost a couple of more pounds by now, but I also haven't been as diligent in my efforts the past two weeks while getting resettled back here in New York City. However, I'm still losing a pound a week - very sensible.
*Now, according to the second number on my scale... I have one of those body-fat measuring scales... I've dropped four percentage points... So... After crunching some numbers, it looks like I've lost about 20 pounds of fat and gained about seven pounds of muscle. Not bad at all.
And, finally, I'm down two inches in my waist, a couple of inches in my chest, and I can definitely see that my legs are not as big as they used to be too. And that's the best "feeling" of all the numbers. I have about eight more weeks until Lestat opens... Which means I have about seven more weeks until I buy my new tux and/or suit for Opening Night.
:)
-
DR DearReaderLaura - Well... At least you got to spend some time with your DD and DR Sandra.

My friend John came over tonight for a movie night. We haven't done one if quite a while, since MILLION DOLLAR BABY about six weeks ago at his house.
Tonight we started with DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS with Steve Martin and Michael Caine. He and I both enjoyed the musical version in NYC so much this summer and wanted to revisit the film. I hadn't seen it since its original release which was in the late 1980s, I think.
Anyway, it's lots of fun, but I sure missed the Yazbeck music.
-
And speaking of SCOUNDRELS, who's seen the original version BEDTIME STORY? I only saw bits and pieces of it on TV decades ago. It seemed very dull to me at the time. Wonder if I'd like it beter now?
-
...And I spent another good chunk of time with DR Jason...
I had been wanting to head back to the Reservoir in Central Park, and since Jason hadn't been there before... We had a wonderful stroll around the Reservoir. Lots of pics were taken, and once I transfer them from my camera, I'll try my best to post a few.
It was a great afternoon for a walk in the park. The skies had cleared, the sun had come out, and the temp was not too cold. We enjoyed the scenery and changing vistas of the New York Skyline as we circled the Reservoir. -And we also enjoyed some of the scenery that was running by us.
:)
-
Next, we watched THE FIRM. I never read Grisham's book, but it's hard to think it could be any more suspenseful than this fine film version. Thoroughly enjoyable suspense drama.
-
So, that will leave FIREFLY and the rest of that CSI disc for tomorrow for sure. I'm thinking with the Olympics closing tomorrow, there will be a raft of reruns on TV tomorrow night which might mean the DVDs come out again during prime time.
-
I just checked the TV schedules. Surprisingly, there's a lot of new programming tomorrow night opposite the closing ceremonies.
ABC has the DANCING WITH THE STARS final show. CBS has a new COLD CASE. Fox is showing some new comedies. So, looks like they're aggressively counterprogramming against the Olympics. Good for them!
-
Jose, that's fantastic, congratulations!
I wish I had a body fat scale... I've lost 28 lbs since October, but I have no idea about body fat. I should have the gym measure.
-
Oh, tomorrow night there's a new GREY'S ANATOMY for fans of that show here as well!
-
After our walk in the park, we headed over to DR elmore's abode for a visit. What a great visit! It was nice to see Larry again - I haven't seen him since I got back to NYC - and it was the first time that Jason had seen Larry's library(!). Larry "held court", and regaled us with many a story about many a show and many an actor and actress. Reputations were made, and no one was spared. No one.
;D
We then headed to dinner around the corner where we had one of the quietest waitresses in the world. -I believe she was in training. The food was very good, and the conversation continued to flow. And, best of all, Larry ended up picking up the tab!
Thank You, Larry! -A truly pleasant surprise, and much appreciated.
-
Okay, gather ye vibes...
I just got a phone call about the possibility of a MAJOR job opportunity... nothing is definite yet, but it would be a dream come true. Please keep your fingers, toes, ankles, arms, legs, and eyes crossed for me.

I am hoping that Ms Linda Purl's show gets a great reception.....the opening number is perfectly chosen!!
My hope would be that the show might get recorded...maybe on a fairly new record label.
Just a thought. ;)
-
I'm sure he'll enjoy Orlando even if it is a "working trip."
Naturally, we'll want a full report when he returns.
-
DR George - Hope you're continuing to feel better too.
I am...thanks! But not quickly enough.
-
My hope would be that the show might get recorded...maybe on a fairly new record label.
Just a thought. ;)
I think it would be a wise investment for her even if she underwrote part of the expenses. It would be a great way to get her show out there to prospective producers.
-
As for the Topic of the Day....
"Ferry Cross the Mersey" - David Lanz does a nice instrumental version of this song.
"The Night Chicago Died" - I fell in love with this song in fourth grade. My teacher would usually play it - and "Kung Fu Fighting" - during our lunch period. :)
-
I think that';s wonderful news about the diets of some of our DRs. Gives some of the rest of us great incintive.
-
Today in the mail, I got the Elaine Paige highlights CD of Evita! I've had the album for years, but never the CD...until now. ;D
-
I have to admit I was a little bad tonight having some margaritas with my company. It's the first alcohol I've had in quite some time. Of course, it gave me the nibbles, so I took out some chips, and, well, you know . . . .
-
A friend I met on-line sent me the 1984 Tony Awards show on a DVD he burned for me. I had the tape for many years and then stupidly and inadvertantly recorded over it, so it was nice to get a replacement.
-
OOHH!!
One interesting note about the Playbill for "Measure for Pleasure"... -Which DR Rodzinski had tipped us off to...
Due to some weird(!) computer(?) glitch, there are pages of the program that missing various letters.
Sometimes it's a "v"... Consequently, on the Notes from the Artistic Director, the playwright's name appears as "Da id Grimm".
Sometimes it's a "y"... "Don't miss an of our exciting 50th Anniversar Shows!", "Thursda , March 9"
Sometimes a "u"... "J ne/J ly 2006", "www.officiallye anmorton.com"
Very strange... And possibly a collector's item. ;)
-
Well, I'm ready to head down to bed.
Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the evening.
Good night!
-
Poor Tammy has a sore neck.... we think she had a bit of whiplash. I told her to ice her neck, relax, think positive thoughts, and then to take a nice long hot shower to wash all pain down the drain.
I'm surprised Tammy doesn't get hurt more often. She takes a beating.
-
BK, I might even drive back to see you perform in your play.
-
Well...
That's all for me today...
Goodnight.
-
Just want it known that I did not edit that Playbill! :)
In fact, those pages came to our guy "camera-ready" from the production, and the letters appeared in all proofs until the book printed. A rather mysterious thing, that.
-
I have lost about 10 lbs. recently.
-
I rarely am nuts about modern "important" movies made by Hollywood. But the last two films I saw, CAPOTE and GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK were remarkable, and so I must briefly rave about them.
Great lead performances at their core, but also great, subtle direction. And I find period detail in these sort of movies is often so overdone, seeming overly glossy or overly obvious, but these two films do a fantastic job recreating their time periods, again subtly. And the final bit of subtlety is in the films underlying themes. Not a heavy handed moment in either! One is not pounded over the head with the grim irony of Capote's situation or the connections between McCarthyism and our current situation in GOOD NIGHT. Two wonderful films and powerful achievements.
-
Today's reasonably obscure playlist entry: Noel (son of Rex) Harrison's "A Young Girl of Sixteen".
The American release called it "A Young Girl" I think.
-
Listening to a really excellent LP I found online. Irish folk crooner Mick Hanly's A KISS IN THE MORNING EARLY. Lovely, lovely.
-
Playing at the moment - "Hugo & Luigi's "La Plume De Ma Tante"
-
I love my collection of 45 rpm discs.
-
There is always a market for Irish crooners.
-
And now for Bobby Goldsboro's "Molly".
-
DR Rodzinksi, you have about a weeks worth of LP album covers-of-the-evening to post.
-
And I certainly agree with you about GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK...what a good film. I still have not seen CAPOTE.
-
I watched one of my favorite 1950s Universal-International films tonight..THE RESTLESS YEARS..You know that John Saxon was one heck of a good actor and so was Sandra Dee.
One of my recent interviewees, Dorothy Green, is in the movie...during the interview she remembered that she played someones mother in the film, but couldn't recall who...at first she thought she played Sandra Dee's mom, but then wasn't quite sure (and I couldn't recall, since it had been several years since I had seen the it). It turnd out she played Luana Patton's mom...a lush. She didn't have any scenes with Luana, so that is probably why she couldn't recall who her kid was in the movie! LOL!
-
I think Saxon is from Brooklyn. They have a stone with his name on it when you walk through a sort of walk-of-Brooklyn-fame at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens.
-
I found some good 45s this week, Tomovoz. "Philadelphia USA" by the Nu Tornados, "No Matter What Sign You Are" by the Supremes, some Ronnie Dove, a couple others.
One was a single by someone called Son of Pete which I bought because I like the Berserkley label, but it turned out to be a novelty: Get this, two sides of total silence (one called "Silent Knight"). What a waste of vinyl.
-
I do have the Nu Tornados disc and the Supremes track also. For some strange reason the Nu Tornados disc actually cracked the top 40 here! Perhaps it was magic record.
-
Guess you'll be burning copies of the Son of Pete disc or transferring it to CD.
-
"Magic Record" is the better side as far as I'm concerned! Fun tune.
"Goochie-yama-giggly-goo, I cast a spell of love over you!"
-
I remember seeing "The Restless Years " at the movies Michael. I've not seen it since 1959!
-
You're right MBarnum. Well here is one anyway. Janet Stover's EASY NOW. I have tried to no avail to find any info about this woman. The LP is from 1976 or so. There are at least three outstanding tracks on there that Carole King would have liked to have written. And the LP concludes with a song called "Too Much Production and Not Enough Song" about overproduction in music. Very trenchant and funny.
What complicates my search is that there is a rodeo personality named Janet Stover who has actually recorded a couple songs. I contacted her, and she said she wasn't the Janet Stover of this LP. So, not much can be done. It was produced in Dallas in a little studio.

I am surprised she doesnt also...

I'm back from a lovely day and evening, about which more later in the notes, which I shall now write and post in about twenty minutes.
Re Tammy - the scene in question is carefully choreographed - every beat of every movement right down to hand gestures. The problem with this current thing actually happened before the choreographed part when Matt just forgot where he was and did something early - that's the way people get hurt. Tammy told me that tonight's performance was very good.

DR STephanie also went to the play tonight and said the saem thing.. She even chatted with Tammy.

I'm listening to my MP3 watch and it has really good sound. And like my first watch, the song order is all over the place. :P It seems to be totally random. Well, at least I can listen for 16 hours without a repeat...a recharge of the battery, yes, but no repeat. ;D
