Oh ... no..... NOT... the... [shudder] ... h-p-o-o-r-o-r-s of life?
Aughghghghghghghghghghgh
VIXMOM - As Jane said, it's Dennis Weaver who's responsible for Ron Howard existing, not Tony Dow. Does that clear that up? :) :) :)
I don't know that rule of HHW netiquette.
Ginny how are Richard and the MIL this morning... and how are you? I hope you are well rested after a good night's sleep and having viewed the DVD of your choice.
Vixmom - Did you get my PM?
Jose - Row A loge were the seats that were popping up on Telecharge yesterday for $75. Do you know if they ended up papering, or are you too much of a gnetleman to say?
"Papering" means giving away free tickets to people interested in seeing a show so that it looks like there is a paying audience in the house.

Jose - I don't know what was planned before Feb. 16th. But the "cheap" tickets went on sale on Feb. 16th, and at that point, it was definitely clear that the seat locations they were selling were at the Beaumont. I had bought a few tix (for the friends who watched our dogs the other day while we were on our trip) and the charge slip is dated Feb. 16th and the locations then were clearly Beaumont locations. I think the dinner after the show was always planned to be within Avery Fisher Hall somewhere. I think that had this show not been so soon after Cook's sold-out appearance at the Met and Stritch's heralded stint at the Carlyle, ticket sales (especilaly the benefit tix) would have been even better. But there was some feeling of "Oh, just did that a few weeks ago" among the ardent fans of both Cook and Stritch, as far as I could gather.
I like the thirties...double-breasted suits. Tails and white ties. Elegance, panache. More importantly actually dressing when you went out for dinner or the theatre. We still had some sense of personal style beyond just the clothes we wore.
Yesterday Ron Pulliam postedDear Ron,
It was NOT the hpoorors of LIFE, it was the hpoorors of the LIE (Long Island Expressway) and if you had ever seen the hpoorors you would know why I do so dread having to face them, they're terrible drivers!!!
love Vixmom
(tap dancing as fast as I can)
Dearest Debra (vixmom): Conside the "f" to be a "parenthetical" insertion into the acronym...i.e., the Long Island f****** Expressway".
;D
and this one is sent with love to Der Brucer
One day a fourth-grade teacher asked the children what their fathers did for a living. All the typical answers came up-- fireman, mechanic, businessman, salesman, doctor, lawyer, and so forth.
But little Justin was being uncharacteristically quiet, so when the teacher prodded him about his father, he replied, "My father's an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret and takes off all his clothes in front of other men and they put money in his underwear. Sometimes, if the offer is really good, he will go home with some guy and make love with him for money."
The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other children to work on some exercises and then took little Justin aside to ask him, "Is that really true about your father?"
"No," the boy said, "He actually works for the Democratic National Committee and is helping to secure the nomination of Hilary Clinton, but I was too embarrassed to say that in front of the other kids."
Tomorrow I will begin dosing myself with some Lem-sip from our cache, but said cache is limited and I've yet to find anyone locally, in any English or Irish gift shop that carries this marvel of a British remedy, so I must use it sparingly, in case The Lovely Wife should follow my lead and also get afflicted with this crud. Why we don't have the equivalent of Lem-sip on this side of the pond baffles me. It is the best stuff.
Uhg, I am home sick today..just felt cruddy..but nothing serious...howeve, Vixmom's little ditties made me laugh heartily...and now I feel much better! LOL!
...but not good enough to go to work ;)
Feel better vibes for DRs Charles Pogue and Dan the Man!
I'm certain you've already looked into it, but you can always order online.
This outfit ships internationally:

It's gone now.
...and for DR MBarnum, too!
Has anybody seen or heard from DR Elmore today?
Joy, the best of wedding vibes to Amanda!
And I thought I had concerns before my wedding, only one really but it was a biggie. I didn’t know if my mother would be sober. She didn’t make it to the rehearsal, which was just fine. To the wedding she made it, and stayed sober throughout. :D
I need to hop to it!
Namely March--wasn't she the little-discussed sister in LITTLE WOMEN?
I just nabbed an appointment with my doctor who is fortunately located just three blocks away. I need to hop to it!
And while we are on the topic of politics:
Is there no one in the United States Congress capable of explaining to President Bush that the concept of a foreign entiity such as the United Arab Emirates "operating" our ports, having ANY role whatsoever in HOW our ports operate, is NOT OKAY.
NOT OKAY....
NOT SINCE 9/11.
The very notion that this president THINKS it's okay negates everything that 9/11 did to this country and everything he has done, the good and the mostly bad, in reaction to it.
It doesn't matter if the U.A.E. is an ally. It doesn't matter if the U.A.E. would "only" be "operating" the port.
The idea that this president would endorse an Arab nation managing a U.S. port is like pouring salt on a wound on the national psyche.
It must be considered as one of the single MOST STUPID things ANY administration has ever tried to spin.
Oh you're preaching to the choir my friend!!
Oh, Vixmom, LOL! I am a Democrat, but I thought that joke was funny! :D
I'm up, I'm up. I see bits of blue sky trying to peek through the gray, so perhaps our "storm" is short-lived.
Hi everyone!
I've been doing a LOT of sleeping the past couple of days but I finely am starting to feel pretty good.
I'm off of the pain pills (which I think was causing the aforesaid LOT of sleeping). I still slept in until about ten thirty and am yawning as I type this sooo a nap may be in my near future.
I hope everyone is doing well.
It's very good to read that you are feeling better, Danise.
Don't rush anything, either. I know hospitals like to to do fast turnarounds in getting patients out the door following surgeries, but that doesn't mean the patient needs to resume normalcy right away! HEAL and rest and come back stronger than ever!
DR elmore - Thanks for the info.
-And I guess since I actually got out of bed before Noon today - well, even before 9:00! - I guess you could blame me for your late start today.
;)
One thing about daytime TV. It sucks. I'm watching the old Battlestar Galactica on the Sci Fi channel right now. "The Gun on Ice Planet Zero".
I think I'm going to change over to the things I Tivoed over the past few days.
Yes, I'm a figure skating geek.
Just finished watching Bride & Prejudice, which I loved! It was the perfect thing to do on my "recovery" day.
LOL, DR Ron Pulliam! Years ago, when we bought a small TV for our guest room, my husband and son told me it was the "figure skating television." Do you have a complete collection of the Olympic Ice programs? I only saw a few of them and would love to see the whole series. Can you duplicate the DVD?
Oh and good news for all you DR's who have carelessly lost weight recently... I seemed to have found it! Please come and collect same at your earliest convenience
Dang... Tony Dow is responsible for something... oh now I remember... breaking DR Jane's friend's heart... the rat
So how is Dennis Weaver reponsible for Ron Howard?
What a beautiful day it turned out to be here. 70 degrees and just beautiful weather all around. And even warmer in the days to come.
So how many people here will watch tonight's 2 hour premiere of THE AMAZING RACE? I know I can't wait. This is one of my absolute favorite shows!
Yes DRMATTH - Smoke Gets In Your Eyes from the aforementioned LOVELY TO LOOK AT is very romantic, but I didn't see it until recently.
I only knew them from their names and appearances on shows like THE BELL TELEPHONE HOUR - and the ONLY married celebrities I knew of were Lucy and Desi. And even married people like Howard Duff and Ida Lupino aka Mr Adams & Eve had different last names, so my mind decided Marge & Gower were brother and sister.
DRMBARNUM - Monica didn't die in CARAVAN, did she? The last I saw of her she was tied up and rolled off the bed onto the floor....but I might have missed something. She had a great number that could have taught Ann-Margret a thing or two....and she did get the DVD cover picture!

Won't that just make you dizzy?
Oh... At first I thought you had typed, "I need to hop on it!"...
Nevermind...
;D
And my thanks, aussi, for the vibes sent today.

DR D-t-M, did you watch the conclusion of BLEAK HOUSE?
Is it queasy bein' green?
We bought a DVD set of Hill Street Blues Series One about a month ago and have just started watchingit over the past few days. Disc Two is exhibiting problems, pixelating and freezing.... we no longer have the receipt. Do yu think we could contact Fox directly and get a replacement disc or are we just outa luck?
I am glad you enjoyed if DR Ginny! I wish my sister and brother-in-law would return my copy...they can't seem to find it. They didn't care much for the movie....my sister, evidently, doesn't "get" musicals...I think I will have to disown her.
I was at Jane and Keith's wedding, and i do remember: Jane's mother WAS, indeed, sober throughout. Plus, she actually paid for our less-than-flattering-but-better -than-most bridesmaids' dresses... She had her issues, but she was basically pretty decent.
Today is Zero Mostel's birthday. He was born in 1915. He would have been 91 years old, if he were still alive.
Sunday was Jackie Gleason's birthday. He was born in 1916.
I don't know when either of them died.
And that's Today's Useless Trivia of the Day. ;)
My mother had a great heart, when she was sober. She was a bit like the girl with the curl. :)
Good Evening!
Well... I was able to sort of crash the group sales presentation for Mary Poppins, and managed to snag some swag in the process too: a CD sampler, and a parrot-head umbrella(!). Actually, I snagged two - with the assistance of DR Jason. I'm keeping one for myself, and then giving one to Steve since he is the one who introduced me to "Mary Poppins" in the first place. *I hadn't seen the movie in it's entirety until about five years ago. And since I'm heading back down this weekend, I can present it to him sooner than later.
DR Laura, YES YES YES I want to see the wedding pics!
Oh Cillaliz, don't leave Mrs. Beasley behind!
I think, as George mentioned, the 20s and the 40s both had style and good looking fashion. The 70s and 80s produced some of the ugliest fashions in recent memory (although some stuff from the 60s creep in there as well).
Does anyone else want to see Jane's wedding photo including PennyO in the less-than-flattering-but-better -than-most bridesmaids' dress?
Here's a pic of the dress my sis picked out for me for her wedding. Please keep in mind I have no makeup on and my hair is a hot mess. :D
Hope all those who weren't feeling so hot this am are feeling better. DR Elmore, I didn't want to get up today either and thought about calling in sick, but instead just took my time and told them I was running late. By the end of the day I got my energy back and just worked a little later.
I once wrote a song for the flute and piano. I called it The February March. I should play it at midnight..lol
Oh, here's an LP cover. "I Love Accordions" by the Bell Accordion Symphony, a bunch of young-looking 50s kids from Chicago. Why do we not have accordion symphonies anymore? My mom took accordion lessons.
