Vixmom, I'm so sorry to hear about your basement flood.

It worked! I'm at the house where I'm house-and-cat-sitting and am able (finally) to log into HHW and post! It took me a while to figure out what to do. I had to muck around (and I hope that I didn't change any settings!) because when I first tried to get onto the Internet (and for about 20 minutes after that), nothing happened! And then I FINALLY realized that the DSL modem that's sitting right next to the monitor was not turned on. Dopey me. ;) Now it's turned on (no pun intended!) and working just fine.
-
Tomovoz, I figure that I should at least attempt to watch each of my new DVDs...they came all the way from England, just for me! ;)
-
As for weight loss...I, too, am officially going to attempt to lose weight, starting TODAY! I signed up (and paid) for NutriSystem (http://www.nutrisystem.com/), and the first box of food came two weeks ago. I dilly-dallied and procrastinated and decided this past Sunday that I would start the next day (which was yesterday). But I didn't start. I knew that the food that NutriSystem sends is not all the food that you're supposed to eat, but I didn't really have anything appropriate, so I couldn't start yesterday (Monday). So after work yesterday, I went to Costco and then Fred Meyer and, with my list of "recommended" foods, bought more food than I've probably every gotten at one time. Anyway, the NutriSystem food is all real food (not like the shakes that I had done before) but it's really just about portion control (of which, I have none ::)). So, I portioned out my breakfast, lunch and snack foods and will start my regimen in the morning. WISH ME LUCK!! I want to lose probably what BK totally weighs!
-
And on that note (H)...I'm going to bed. Good night, all!
-
And the word of the day is: BRONCHIAL!
I used to have an LP of Aaron Copland's Rodeo. On the cover was a picture of a cowboy riding a bucking bronchial.
-
Dang, this is too early to be up! If I didn't have to be at work by eight, I'd still be quite happy dreaming. :P
-
Favorite Elton John song:
Well, actually favorite album: Caribou. Great from start to finish. All sorts of fun, with a tour de force finale in Ticking.
-
I may not be on-line at home very often right now. We seem to be having phone problems which affect our Internet service. Anthony will be calling the phone company today to see if they can determine the problem. I know it's not the phone. I think it's in the wiring. There is terrible static when we speak to anyone on the phone. It's so loud that the person on the other end can hear it.
We also have a leaking kitchen sink. I have to call our landlord so he can send over a plumber. There are advantages to having a live-in husband who is free most days. The plumber can come over most anytime (if we can get one)
We watched the last episodes of Slings and Arrows on Sunday. What great fun. I'm really looking forward to Season Three. If you've ever worked with a theatre company the show is funny and rings so true.
Last night we started watching Mapp and Lucia. I had heard of the books and the television series (from the 80s I believe) but I never read or saw either. Anthony was talking with a friend who mentioned that he has the entire series on tape so we borrowed both boxes. Our weekend viewing (with a break for Anthony's trip to Virginia) will be blocked out for a while.

Good morning, all! I believe our DR Joey turns 21 today, but I could be wrong. I'm off to another trip to Toyland in the next 30 minutes, and I believe DR Ben's DP Anthony may be showing up for a bit to look at a 1905 theatre scrapbook.
DR Ben, the Mapp and Lucia by E F Benson books are classic English camp; the early books are wonderful and the last couple an ordeal. I read them all in the first two years I lived in New York. John Van Druten wrote an unsuccessful play based on them, but the tv production with Geraldine McEwen and Prunella Scales, and Nigel Hawthorne as I recall, based on two of the books was a delight.

...And in a couple of minutes I'm off to JFK to pick up Steve. I'm flying him in for the the opening tonight - and the week - as a Thank You for all his support and care and love over the past couple of years. I truly that I would not be "here" right now without his generosity and friendly "nudging".
But in the meantime...

...And now I'm off to JFK... And then the rest of the day is looking pretty jam-packed and action filled. Thankfully, I don't have too many last-minute things to do, so I don't think I'll be rushed at all - however, I've been saying that for the past week, and... Ah, well...
-I'm just hoping that the rain and possible thunderstorms hold off tonight - or at least for the walk from The Palace to the Time Warner Center.
Thanks again to each and every DR for, well, for everything.
...And regardless of what happens after tonight - if you get my drift - I've already fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine. WOW! To be living in New York City, and now to be part of a brand new Broadway show - and, basically, from the first day of rehearsal too! - Double-WOW!
Thanks again to everyone here for their Vibes and Love. It truly has made this special time in my life even moreso.

I'm up, I'm up - earlier than my usual 7:30 on a Tuesday.
Since no one has mentioned it (I think): Carly Simon - That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be - one of the most perfectly produced tracks ever.
-
Good morning!
Beautiful April morning, but it's gonna be a hot day (a Schmidt and Jones reference) with highs near 90. Argh!
Supposedly, thundershowers are heading our way, too, and they are supposed to cool us off so much that it won't get out of the 60s tomorrow!
You gotta love the Carolinas in April, a state of extremes! :)
-
Much good luck, crossed fingers, and best wishes to DR Jose on his Broadway premiere tonight!!! May the theater gods be with you!
-
I know very little about Paul Simon's solo career. I've never bought any of his recordings, and since I don't listen to the radio much, I've heard very little of his work after he and Art split up.
I do love "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Sounds of Silence," and "Mrs. Robinson" very much.
-
A great opening night bouquet to our very own dear reader Jose.
-
Massive broken leg vibes to DR Jose!
-
I wrote a half-page just now, just to get a jump on things.
-
I know nothing much about Elton John's rock heyday as I was totally a Broadway Baby, and he wasn't writing for Broadway then.
Obviously, I like very much the songs for THE LION KING, especially "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," "Circle of Life," and "Hakuna Matata."
I must admit I didn't like any of the music in AIDA very much (didn't much like the show either) and was dismayed when it won the Tony that year.
I will listen to LESTAT with great interest.
-
I hit the jackpot yesterday with two different shipments from Deep Discount (one was shipped a week before the other; they arrived on the same day, both shipped Media Mail. Explain that if you please, USPS!)
Of course, I have a fair amount of recorded shows on the DVR from last night, so I doubt I'll get to any of those DVDs until the weekend.
-
Bruce - you svelte and lithe hunky thing, you! Congratulations on regaining your boyish figure!
Jose, my dear boy! Happy Opening Night! and many more, bucko! Many more.
George, take inspiration from our BK - you can do it. There is no "try" - you just do what's in your heart, for yourself. New day, new start, new you. See you soon.

Happy Birthday to occasional DR Joey!
-
Elton John's music for the "Solidarity Forever" number from BILLY ELLIOTT is among the most stirring pieces of theater music I've heard in a long while.
-
I'm having a confidence crisis over the opening monologue of "... in the absence of spring..." The thing goes on and on, and all stream of consciousness, and almost every line references something that's important later in the play - and I am having my usual "What made me think I could do this" wallow - the humiliation potential is very high. But I said I was an actress, and they believed me, and now I have to figure out this long and rambling thing... the rest of the play is not so difficult for me. But, sheesh, oy vey! this monologue that starts the piece! OY!
Oh, well... we take a step. We begin... First rehearsal is two weeks from today...

Confidence vibes to Penny!

"Well I *@#$en didn't!", said the bat.

***MERDE, DR JOSE!!***
For any DRs who missed my thanks last night for the Vibes for DD - I'll repeat them now. THANK YOU!!!(Keep 'em coming - the actual procedure will be on Thursday morning in Hungary.)
I'll soon be getting my notes for something that's suddenly come together after a few false starts and will begin shooting in less than a month. Yikes!
I'm not trying to be mysterious, but can't give out details until the official press release. There's a director and a start date, but casting has just begun. I've been told that the notes, although numerous and detailed, are about minor details (some historical) and are minimal -- and that's excellent news. However, I write very tight scripts, so one small change can cause a Domino Effect which makes it a big change. I'll know more when I see the notes.

Well, I hope I didn't give the impression that they specifically got the computer for me. ;) They didn't. They've had a computer, but it was a very old and slow one. They had actually upgraded before the last time I house-sat for them, but I couldn't log in and wasn't able to ask them how before they left. This time, I asked when they were still in town and it all worked out!

I'll start with walking then work up to something more. I have no plans on ever joggin. Good for BK, though! The NutriSystem package came with excercise suggestions (including some yoga) and I have a set of tapes on walking aerobics.

Started my viewing the last night's NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE. There were one or two chuckles, but the writers went for some "easy jokes" (Christine mentioning her old nickname), and I miss the wit and farceical situations of OUT OF PRACTICE.
In an article in the magazine about shows on the bubble, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY gave OUT OF PRACTICE a "so-so" chance of being renewed. It was less optimistic about INVASION.

Favorite Paul Simon (from the Simon and Garfunkel era): Old Friends/Bookends. Bridge Over Troubled Water. And my fave, Frank Lloyd Wright. Also, America and The Only Livin' Boy in NY.

What is supposed to be the year the movie ends?
-
How were women in Texas wearing their hair in the 1960s?
Well, the last scene with Anne Hathaway wasn't in the 1960s; it was in the 1980s since that was twenty years into their relationship.
Of course, I would have no idea how women ever wore their hair in a period unless I looked at movies of the time. I'd have to look back at that scene. Of course, how Texas women were wearing their hair might have been very different from ladies in other parts of the country.
-
Speaking of forgetting I forgot to send
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]~~~~~~~~~~~~Memory VIBES~~~~~~~~~~ to dear PennyO![/move]

Yup I was thinking the earliest it might have been is '83 or '84....

This is one of the stars of the MALIBU BIKINI SHOP from 1986....and Mrs. Twist's hair was a lot like this....but had a lot more of the late 80's soft tease. 8)
-
And yes I am aware that Malibu is NOT in Texas.
-
Hathaway's character would have been in her 40s also, more than likely.
-
I'm going to watch BOSTON LEGAL tonight since L&O:SVU is a rerun. Sounds like it should be a fun episode.
Of course, new episodes from all the reliables: HOUSE, VERONICA MARS, etc.
-
There are still women in South Carolina who wear their hair in beehives...and that was Hathaway's "do" at the end, yes?
-
Nope Jack's widow had her hair soft teased and shoulder length.

Broken leg vibes to DR Jose tonight!!
-
Best of OZ vibes for Jose. Of course in OZ it is already April 26th so it is all over.. I can say that Jose was brilliant.
-
Off now to finish cleaning the den. I vacuumed earlier today and now need to dust. Then, on to tonight's TV.
I read somewhere that Elliott is going to sing "Unchained Melody" tonight. If that's true, he's going to have the memory of Clay Aiken's startling rendition to compete with, at least in my mind.
-
I was not planning to go out last night, but my sister and her husband (and baby) returned from their long weekend at 6pm. And they were hungry. And since i missed the baby (so much after only 4 days) I brought them take-out.
I will see my sis and megan tomorrow for lunch. And then hopefully tomorrow night she will be wearing her princess ballerina dress (i requested it). But it's gotten so cold out these past few days. :(
-
Oh I almost forgot IDOL was on tonight. Can't wait for that and GILMORE GIRLS!
-
...And now I'm off to JFK...
-And I promise to have pictures!!!!!
Laters... (I promise) ;)
Jose, I am so proud of you. I can't help but cry.
(And yes, folks, I am quite serious.)
-
I'm up, I'm up - earlier than my usual 7:30 on a Tuesday.
Since no one has mentioned it (I think): Carly Simon - That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be - one of the most perfectly produced tracks ever.
I agree.
-
Hi all! I can't stay for long but had to stop by to wish our Broadway Guy many, many, many broken legs and fingers on his BIG night!
I'm soooo proud for and of you, Jose!!!!!
I think about the walking tour everyday when I have a cup of tea from the tea store you showed me. In fact, I many just HAVE to come back up in October to get some refills. ;) :D
Healing vibes to DR Maria's DD!!!!
Memory vibes to DR PennyO!!!!

Well now that you've got all that wondering and worrying behind you, I'm sure you'll be fabulous!
-
Say it isn't so DR Dan(the Man)--
I found out last Thursday night that DARK SHADOWS producer Dan Curtis had died earlier this month.
:'(

PennyO! Shame on you. A monologue is no different than an aria or a song. You interpret all of them the same way.
And from what I heard about JEWISH THIGHS last year, you are one Hell of an actress.

Jose, I am so happy for you and proud of you. It's so wonderful to watch you make your dreams come true

Per VixMom:
My basement troubles are quite mundane however when I consider the issues many of my dear HHW friends here are dealing with so I shall try to keep my moaning and dripping (oh dear that really was an unintentional pun) to a minimum... ok its too late for that, I'll try not to exceed the recommended daily allowance then..... and please know that you are all, especially you Danise and Mom, TCB, OZDerek's dear friends and family, Elmore's dad and Maria's Dear Daughter in my thoughts and prayers
Your problem seems pretty rough to me, DR Vixmom. I wouldn't have a clue how to empty a water filled basement. Can't you just pull the plug and let it drain????? ;D
If not, they SHOULD have a plug and a drain. Maybe I'm the next American Inventor!!!! ;) :D

Malibu Bikini Shop has what to do with this here site?
-
Still waiting for the call to go to the editing room - probably closer to six is my guess. Tammy wanted me to help her with an audition, but unless she can do it later I don't see how it will work.
-
Dearest PennyO, if you bomb out in the boondocks, you're always welcomed and loved by at least two Noo Yawkers. Think of the monologue as an aria and sing it for a while till you find its rhythms. Love ya!

Actually elmore, I think you would enjoy Seattle. It is a breathtakingly beautiful city, and there is lots and lots of cheap porn. And the stagecoaches come through here almost every week, unless the Injuns get them first.

I live for the Wells Fargo, and I would love to see Seattle! My good friend Russell Warner, who's a telented musician, spends half the year in Seattle. One of my former Barnes & Noble colleagues works for the Seattle Opera.
I'm sure if I've got any competition in cheap porn trivia, it's in Seattle (wink, wink!).

I shall shortly be on my way to the editing room - haven't heard from Tams - she may be out of luck unless she wants to come by the editing room to work.

Well I must give my highest rating and kudos to the POLICE WOMAN box set. The commentaries by Miss Angie Dickinson are priceless, particularly those she does with Mr Earl Holliman (neighbor of MR BK).
They look great...and they are network versions NOT the edited syndicated versions.
EARL: That's my bathrobe...that's not wardrobe. I furnished that. And I still have it....
ANGIE: Well, Halloween's coming up....
____
ANGIE: You were a great dancer...remember when we had to tango?
EARL: You did okay.
ANGIE: I just stood there and you dragged me along....
EARL: I'm not talking about the dialog scenes, Ange.
-
Once again, the THEME FROM ANGIE, this time in honor of Angie Dickinson :)
Different Worlds (Theme From Angie) Lyrics
Let the time flow; Let the love grow
Let the rain shower; Let the rose flower
Love it seeks; Love it finds
Love it conquers; Love it binds
We come to eachother from different worlds
Drawn to eachother by the love inside of us
We give to eachother our different worlds
Long as we can do it
Life is gonna breeze right though it
Let the time flow; Let the love grow
Let the rain shower; Let the rose flower
Love it seeks; Love it finds
Love it conquers; Love it binds
We've reached for each other from different worlds
With love for each other that will stand the test of time
We're up to the challenge of different worlds
With this love inside us
There is nothing can divide us
Let the time flow; Let the love grow
Let the rain shower; Let the rose flower
Love it seeks; Love it finds
Love it conquers; Love it binds
Love it seeks and Love it finds
Love it conquers
Love it binds-ahhhhhh

It has been one of those nights here at work....
Lets see we have had the copshop and the fireshop here for a LOVELY visit... Now we are waiting for the Trades shop to show up....
It was steady night business wise and ungodly hot in this building for they have not turned the heat off yet.
Just about 40 minutes ago the fire alarm system went off... Checked the fire doors and they were secure and we started to get people to leave the library and within a few minutes we had emptied the library and everyone was standing outside. The cops and the firemen were roaming around the building looking for smoke but they could only find steam and stench.
Apparently one of the steam lines sprung a leak and the heat of the boiler room and the steam set the detectors off. The thermometer in the steam room blew up literally. They estimate the temperaure in the steam room to be over 200 degrees.
No wonder the thermometer on my desk which is on the next floor said 83...
After a period of time the cops let us back in and now they are trying to air the building out to reduce the temperature...
Who ever said working in a library was boring....

Good luck DR Jose!!!
Good luck vibes to DR GEorge!!

It's probably because DR JRand spoke of his next screenplay, Beach Brokeback Bingo which takes place on Malibu.

Enjoyed another MONK episode tonight. This was the one with Natalie (his assistant) running for the school board when she suddenly seems to become a target for a sniper. I remember liking the episode when I first saw it, and remember it so well that the mystery element was no longer present.
The actor who's currently Megan Mullaley's husband was the major guest star. I never can remember his name unfortunately.

I spent a weekend once in Seattle, the downtown environs. I found it a lovely city and would love to go back some day.

Still Crazy After All These Years—What a great bridge that song has. And sax solo. My dad used to just doze off listening to that LP, and I still have that same copy.
My Little Town is a pretty incredible song as well.

AMERICAN IDOL thoughts:
What should have been a terrific week for the singers was really a rather desperate one for them. With so much riding on every show now, and with no clear cut favorite, almost everyone tried TOO hard and oversang their material. This was particularly true with Katharine and Paris, neither of whom did themselves any good at all.
Katharine pushed some parts way too hard and hit some sour notes in that desperate attempt to impress. She also had an annoying tendency to fall off some of her higher notes.
Paris demonstrated yet again improper breath control and tried turning "The Way We Were" into a power ballad robbing it of any intimacy, delicacy, or meaning. She also changed some small words showing she really had no idea what the song actually meant.
Kellie was the one who did "Unchained Melody," and it was a Leah Ann Rhimes arrangement. Simon was right; it was endlessly slow though she did have all the notes.
That's more than can be said with Taylor whose song contained notes way too low for him but whose key couldn't be raised because his range barely got to the highest notes. His rendition wasn't terrible, but I thought it just missed being outstanding.
And that leaves the night's two best singers: Chris and Elliott. Both did fine jobs. Chris showed more control of his material, but Elliott's vocals were more involving for me.
Bottom three: Kellie, Katharine, and Paris. I think Paris may go home tomorrow night, and if not her, Kellie.

HOUSE had a very interesting episode featuring a teen faith healer. Surprising turns on the show tonight, and I really enjoyed it.

BOSTON LEGAL had some hilarious moments, too, I must admit. I can see why some HHWers are very fond of this show. It is lots of fun (though I wasn't so sure about that verdict on the racial profiling case.)
-
Oh, all you fine and kindly DR's - thanks for your vibage - seems to have worked. I had a very good day of work on the script, and I tell ya, nothing like the discipline of doing it to take away the jitters. One step at a time. Just do the work.
I am always like this, on every project. Even MY show, which I've done a LOT - when it's time to re-mount the sucker I get the same panic and dread. Then the work begins, I do the steps, focus - and it feels like home to me once more.
-
Hey! LESTAT must have ended an hour ago... Oh, boy, can't wait to hear from our boy!!! How wuzzit?????
-
MattH-
I did not like last night's MEDIUM. It was funny because while watching last week's, I remarked to TPunk that it was time to get an episode where we learn more about Detective Scanlon. My own psychic ability perhaps? But what a disappointment with the backstory they created for him. The show keeps falling into the trap of good beginnings, great buildup, then everything being resolved in the last two minutes. But I thought the whole episode was over the top. Except for the kid's storyline.

Great to hear you had a good day with the script, DR Penny. I am the same way when I get ready for a trial. I have the panic, dread and fear until I sit down and work my tail off doing prep work. Then I'm fine. I think you have to get that part out of the way so you can do your best

Rodzinski, you would have loved our library's book-sale. LPs for 50 cents. Nothing too exciting but a lot of fun spoken word, I got a few one is Dorothy Parker reading her poems and another is Boris Karloff reading a childrens story
-
Jose's probably rocking the LESTAT afterparty.
-
I did get a great set, I think it's 8 or 9 albums of big band music. 50 cents for the whole thing! I also got a set of the World's Greatest Operettas that includes.....BABES IN TOYLAND

I have been to Seattle and it is an interresting place...

Jose's probably rocking the LESTAT afterparty.
Hope so! Hope he is totally enjoying every moment of his first opening night as a Broadway Pit Musician

I sure would have loved it, Cillaliz. I find a lot of great and/or interesting stuff at just such places.
Why just today, I checked the Salvation Army on my way to work and found a sealed soundtrack to the 1974 HUCK FINN musical with Sherman Bros. songs sung by Harvey Korman, Roberta Flack, et al.
Also, what appears to be an LP of Spanish-language raunchy jokes.
And a Rupert Holmes LP...

Re: tonight's AMERICAN IDOL.
.
.
I thought the judges were extremely harsh on Kellie and Katharine.
It will be extremely interesting to see which of Kellie/Katharine/Taylor are in the bottom considering the judges comments. I'm not really sure which of them will be in the bottom.
I do think Paris will be one of the lowest. And i'm guessing that Chris won't be (he was very good). I wonder also about Elliot. Before the show, I would have thought that he would be one of the least popular. But with Paula's crying, i wonder if that will be enough.
I would think it would be paris/elliot/katharine. But i'm guessing either kellie or taylor will be in there. Although it's hard to know who is less popular.
I'm thinking paris will go. That's sort of what i hope happens.

I agree the resolutions have gotten too pat and abrupt. I did enjoy the Scanlon backstory much more than you apparently, but the wedding business with Lauren Valez (whom I just loved on OZ) wasn't especially well written/explained.
One thing that amazes me, though. After all the tips Allison has given them that have worked out, why is it that she's ever even questioned any more by those in charge who know her abilities? One would think at a certain point, they'd take what she says and work with her in figuring out what it could mean instead of sometimes dismissing it so stubbornly.

Scales and Arpeggios Lyrics
Ev'ry truly cultured music student knows.
You must learn your scales and your arpeggios.
Bring the music, ringing from your chest and not your nose.
While you sing your scales and your arpeggios.
If you're faithful to your daily practicing.
You will find your progress is encouraging.
Do Mi Sol Mi, Do Mi Sol Mi, Fa La so it goes.
When you do your scales and your arpeggios.
Mi mi fa sol sol fa mi re do do re mi mi re re.
Mi mi fa sol sol fa mi re do do re mi re do do.
Though at first it seems as tho' it doen't show.
Like a tree ability will bloom and grow.
If you're smart, you'll learn by heart what ev'ry artist knows:
You must sing your scales and your arpeggios.
If you're smart, you'll learn by heart what ev'ry artist knows:

Or the alternate rendition, perhaps?
When you sing your / scales and arppegios Lyrics
Maria:
Every truly cultured music student knows,
You must sing your scales and your arppegios.
Hear the music ringing from your chest and not your nose.
When you sing your scales and your arpeggios.

And we would love to have you and your lovely wife visit us, CP.
-
Not the reviews I had hoped to read about LESTAT, but unforunately very close to the rumblings about it that I had heard, even way out here in Seattle.
-
Malibu Bikini Shop was, of course, written and directed by pal David Wechter.
Back from doing the first night's audio mix - we're getting all the dialogue as clean as we can - then we add the play's few sfx including thunder, doorbells, clock chimes and incessant rain. We put in Grant's theme and it's great. So, we're two thirds of the way through act one and we'll finish it tomorrow and begin act two, which should go more quickly.
-
Tammy did come over to the editing room and we went out for a quick bite and then I helped her a bit with her audition scene.
