Title: 200,000 POSTS

Well, you've read the notes, you are suitably impressed by our new plateau, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - there are 200,000 cows and it's going to take a while.

And now - Dino at the piano.

I tried to answer a post from yesterday's frenzy, but it's locked. I don't know how to quote from a previous day, so I'll do it "manually."

bk you said,,,
"Apparently you're impressed by all that hogwash."

And to that I respond...
I'm not, actually. I thought that was the point I was making by wondering if anyone looks at and votes for material because of the packaging.

I did a Google search on "Monique Vermont" and the very first link that came up was a column from October 12, 1998 on Sondheim.com (http://www.sondheim.com/features/column_a/55.html), by someone known only as "The Real A." (I wonder who this could be?? ;)) Anyway, there is a paragraph that references Monique Vermont...I hope BK doesn't mind me quoting it here:

Mr. Gordon was not my first acting teacher. No, that was Jerry Bloom, who owned the Jerry Bloom Acting School For Young Adults. My parents, in order to appease me, sent me to said acting school. I have very little memory of it, other than that I was very shy and would never volunteer for any of the weird exercises Mr. Bloom would have us do. This was in the summer just before I began high school. Interestingly, there were two people in that class I've never forgotten. One was Monique Vermont, who was a little younger than I and a nice freckle-faced girl. On my first day, I walked in, saw Monique Vermont sitting there and I went into shock. Because Monique Vermont had played Amaryllis in the motion picture of The Music Man! Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I was in acting class with Amaryllis. I found that extremely neat, and we became friends and even spoke on the phone quite a lot. And then there was a girl named Steffi, who was a bit older than I, and who, I'd discover a month later, went to my high school. I recognized her immediately too, because she'd been in the film of Bye, Bye, Birdie. She didn't have a speaking role, but she was instantly recognizable from the film, because she had fiery red hair which I'd noticed when I saw said film. We became fast friends, too, although when I began high school we drifted apart, as she really couldn't be seen talking to a first semester student. I often wonder where Monique Vermont and Steffi are, and if anyone has any information please let me know so I can send them this reminiscence. Jerry Bloom I know about....

I'll stop here and let you all find out for yourselves what happened to Jerry Bloom. :o

:P

Oh, my, oh, my. What a catch up!

I am now all caught up and will proceed.

Congrats on the new plateau/milestone. Although I wasn't part of it, I'm happy to be part of this here site.

I was at the theatre last night seeing Jan Maxwell's replacement in "Entertaining Mr. Sloane" That's why I posted the link to the Playbill article yesterday. The production was OK, not great. Barbara Sims, who replaced Jan Maxwell was fine in the part. The theatre was freezing cold, so cold in fact that many of the audience members were complaining to management and to the ushers. At the end of intermission a voice came on saying "if you used your cell phone during intermission, please remember to turn it off again" The woman in front of me said, loudly enough for the entire audience to hear, "I'll turn off my cell phone if you turn down the air conditioning". Much laughter from the rest of the audience. I read in the paper today that one of the reasons Mr. Baldwin exploded earlier in the week was because he felt the air conditioning in the theatre was not high enough. He sweats profusely in this production and he wears glasses and it was difficult for him to see so he wanted more air conditioning. He got the icebox he requested. He also lost a co-star. Oh, well.

We also made some "lifestyle" changes at Chez McLaughlin/Morelli. After enduring years of increased prices and decreased satisfaction with cable television (we had another price increase in February) when the bill came last week I looked at it and decided not to cancel cable altogether but to downgrade to Basic service. I would cancel altogether if I got decent reception but we live on the fourth floor of a small building with no big antenna. We are surrounded by tall apartment buildings which make TV reception iffy at best without cable. We decided that as long as we got the broadcast channels and PBS we could live without anything else and the bill goes down from $57.94 to $24.96. It would be even less if we were not gouged by excessive fees and taxes (over $10 in fees). The change hasn't taken place yet, we're still getting the 65 channels we used to get but I won't miss a single channel. We just don't watch enough television to justify paying so much money for so little quality.

Almost 8am. I need to get to work.

One of my fondest memories is meeting DR Kerry and former DR MusicGuy (Lyn) in 2003 when they came to New York City for their 30th Anniversary! We went to dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria (along with former DR Jason) and then up to their suite for post-dinner conversation. What a wonderful evening and what a wonderful couple.

Bye for now.

Good morning, all!  I've just had to wade through 12 pages of notes accumulated after I went to bed.  I'm glad you all had a good time.  I'm happy that a new plateau has been reached.  Congrats to all.

DR George, run to your library's CD sextion and check out a "Trial by Jury." It's a 45-minute piece of comic genius embodying everything that Gilbert & Sullivan did well:  legal logic, opera parody, topsy-turvydom, and some insane situations, all served up with a lot of good tunes.  I've always liked the EMI-Angel recording conducted by Malcolm Sargent with the wonderful Elsie Morrison as the Plaintiff.

Back to the laundry.  My favorite HHW moment?  Reading the interviews.  We could use some new ones.

Of course meeting some fellow HHW'ers in person has been a highlight.

That would be DR GINNY and DH RICHARD and DR JOEY and DR JOSE at a production of MAMMA MIA!  Then later GINNY, RICHARD, and son ROB when they stopped by the World of Wisdom and brought me cake.

And of course meeting DR's RODZINSKI and ANTONIA last December when they too stopped by the World Of Wisdom!

The most memorable benefit of this site has been getting to know BK.  I loved doing my unseemly interview and answering BK's loopy questions. I miss the late night frenzies when BK, I, George, and a few other late nighters would be the only ones posting and doing the limbo. I like to listen to the radio show.  And, of course, it's always nice to find one's name mentioned in the notes when BK is describing the happenings of his eventful day.

Good morning!

But so far it hasn't been one for me. I had one of those infrequent nights last night where it was impossible to turn my mind off and fall asleep. I tossed and turned and finally right before 3 a.m. just got up, came into the den, and turned on the TV. More about my viewing at that absurd hour later.

It's been raining all morning and is very cool. Supposed to stay that way, too, so when I go out today for lunch with friends, I'll be wearing long sleeves and long pants. Hey, just like a grown up!  :)

Then, I watched the CSI: MIAMI rerun I recorded from Tuesday night. After getting into the story, I did remember seeing it this season, but the story of a movie screenplay suggesting real-life murders was an interesting episode, and the ongoing story of Ryan Wolfe's struggle with his eyesight after taking a nail right above the right eye has been the one character story this season which has held my interest.

Then, I plucked FORBIDDEN PLANET off the shelf. Knowing that a new, improved edition of the film is coming this fall, I figured this may be the last time I will probably watch this particular DVD of the movie. I got about 15 minutes into it when my eyes started getting heavy.

So, I saved my place and by now it was 5:45 a.m., and I was able to sleep about three hours. I suspect there will be a nap in my future at some point today.

My favorite moments at HHW have been the Oscar nights. Because it's live all over the US, there are no need for spoilers, and we can all post away about the fashions, the winners and losers, and everything Oscar.

I have also felt very fortunate to become acquainted with some very knowledgeable people in the show biz world and glean from them many different points of view regarding all things entertainment. We may not always agree, but I do often value the opinions offered.

And another bit of thanks to those DRs who have shared so generously of their collections of films, CDs, LPs, etc. I have tried to return the favor when possible, but just wanted to pass on how appreciative I am to those who have been so generous. You know who you are.

Favorite things about this site have been meeting some wonderful DRs in Portland, Los Angeles, and New York...plus getting wonderful movies and music from DRs in such places as Indiana and Australia!! And simply having the opportunity to get to know DRs from Florida, Washington, Japan, France, Arizona, North Dakota, and just all over...and of course I wouldn't even know what a Bollywood movie was if not for this here sight...nor would I have delved so furiously into the films of Hong Kong or Mexico.

I frankly am relieved Kellie Pickler was "picked off" IDOL last night. She had totally lost her confidence in the last few weeks and watching her struggle through the last two performances had been rather painful. I found her entertaining and unpretentious, but she's too unseasoned to be able to compete with the far more experienced competition left on the show.

And even though she's from NC, I have not been voting for her at all (other than the occasional call to see whose line was busy).

I'm guessing now that this contest is Chris' to lose.

DRMATTH - as you mentioned in passing last night....for some reason Walter Plunkett and/or the other MGM dress designers somehow decided that if a character lived in or was FROM the country, their dresses and skirts would be all rickrack, patterns, sweetheart necklines, ruffles, and curious sleeves.

Glad to see that the BMI Musical Theater Workshop and the York Theater got well-deserved special Drama Desk Awards.

Based on the hot word of mouth, surprised that [title of show] got no nominations, especially since there were categories it could have been nominated in where they were stretching to find nominees - very odd.

Re: what DR Cillaliz said about the frat boys.

I do think they are very confident.  And i'm sure many would find them quite arrogant.  But I still like them. They crack me up.  And they are really good at the race.

Re: giving the hippies money.  I think it was very generous for fran and barry to give them the money. But i don't fault the frats for declining. They are trying to win a million dollars, and the hippies are their stiffest competition.  I really don't know what I would do in their place.  But I really thought what they did was much funnier than how rude mojo was. Obviously the hippies felt the same way, since they were so mad at mojo (threatening to yield them). Since the frats are the hippies greatest competition logically they should want to yield them!

Here is the list of Drama Desk nominations

DD Nominations (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/99343.html)

I, too, am surprised at a couple of things. As Fred said, nothing for [title of show]. I'm seeing it tomorrow evening but based on word of mouth and extensions I was sure it would have picked up something.

A show that I'm very surprised to see pick up so many nominations (8) is Wedding Singer. I thought it was pleasant fluff with some problems but I never thought it would be strong enough to pick up nominations in Outstanding Music and Outstanding Lyrics - OMG, what were they thinking. The show opens tonight and it may be a bigger hit than I thought it could be, perhaps even nudging out Lestat or Tarzan for a Best Musical nomination at the Tonys. I said earlier that it would have to work awfully hard to reach that point. Well, I may be proven wrong.

Oh, well, what the hell do I know? Many of the current musicals are not written with me in mind anyway so that shows me  ;)

Re: last night's AMERICAN IDOL.

I'm really not sure who will win. Because once someone is voted off it's hard to know where their fans will vote.

But I don't think elliot or paris have a chance.  Elliot got the highest praise and was still most likely bottom 3.  And paris has continually been in the bottom.

I am disappointed that kellie was voted off.  Although i agree her confidence was way down the past 2 weeks, and that showed.

I still really hate it when someone gets voted off without being in the bottom ever. But i guess with all good singers left it's hard to know who to vote out.

I really think katharine has to be growing in popularity. If she could be top 2 after the judges' comments then that is great for her. And i'm guessing chris' fans just assumed he was safe last week (and that is why they did not vote for him).

Right now i would like katharine to win. I do like all the others though. I'm wondering if we will have a chris/katharine or a chris/taylor finale.

Absolutely shocked that, with only three nominees in the Drama Desk's Best Book category, they must have made an absolutely determined decision not to fill the category out to the usual six nominees.  So they clearly must have been determined not to honor with ANY nominations COLOR PURPLE, [title of show], and others that might have easily qualified in that category.

I tend toward avoidance and procrastination and fear and self-doubt with my work... What our Fearless Leader accomplishes on a daily basis is so  inspiring to me. He's a shiny example. So there.

Re: last night's AMERICAN IDOL.

.
.
.

Anything can be rationalized if you want it deeply enough.

Last week, Chris was bottom TWO.

This week, Elliott was top THREE.

I think it really depends on how well they do from here on.

I was surprised that La Chanze did not get a DD nomination for Color Purple. The show is problematic but she was wonderful! I'm also surprised that Stephen Lynch got a nomination for Wedding Singer (here I go again) but Laura Benati did not get noticed. He's OK but Benati deserves better.

A note on last evening's "South Pacific":

It was a real joy to have the work performed with so many musicians - all of Robert Russell Bennett's orchestrations right up there - front and center.

It's sad that today's musical theatre is reluctant to really fill out a pit and let the music shine; the "Wonderful Town" revival, a welcome exception.

Would it be a fair guess that's last night's music orchestrations drew more from the film than the original show?

DR George, run to your library's CD sextion and check out a "Trial by Jury." It's a 45-minute piece of comic genius embodying everything that Gilbert & Sullivan did well:  legal logic, opera parody, topsy-turvydom, and some insane situations, all served up with a lot of good tunes.  I've always liked the EMI-Angel recording conducted by Malcolm Sargent with the wonderful Elsie Morrison as the Plaintiff.

Done!  And the library where I work has the Malcolm Sargent recording!  I also requested a video that has "Trial by Jury" with Frankie Howerd(!) and "Cox and Box" (which I've never heard of) with no one I've ever heard of.

DR DerBrucer, you heard the original Broadway orchestrations.  The Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization has taken advantage of concerts, like this and the CAROUSEL with Hugh Jackman, to restore the shows from their original full orchestra scores and a complete overhaul of the vocal and orchestral materials for rental in their theatre library.  I was proofreading their new edition of KING & I while they were rushing to finish the concert deadline for SOUTH PACIFIC.

I saw the broadcast of TBJ and C&B, and they're both wonderful.  COX AND BOX is based on a British one-act farce, BOX AND COX, and it's very silly with a wonderful Sullivan score.  The video is the only complete recording of C&B; al recordings have cuts ands omit the gambling number.

I don't know anything about a KING & I concert, nor do I know how many musicians played in the original pit of SOUTH PACIFIC.  I do know that Richard Rodgers liked a large string section, that CAROUSEL in 1946 had around 40 players in the pit, and that SOUND OF MUSIC had 33 players.

I got a postcard from a friend doing Rosencrantz and Guildenstern at the Milk Can Theatre. As I read the [size=0.4]incredibly small print[/size] I see as part of The Hamlet Plays a name I recognize. It's you! This is where you're doing the 10 minute plays. I hope to see my friend Lawrence in R&G (I love that play, I used to use a monologue from it for auditions) and I will try to see Hamlet Plays also. It might not happen though since you open in a couple of days and our schedule is tight with Anthony leaving in about 3 weeks. I'll try though. I'd love to see CG (AKA Carrot Girl) in action.

According to the Internet Theatre Database (which isn't always 100% correct but in this case I think it's right)

Good began previews at the Booth Theatre on October 13, 1982 and ran through January 30, 1983 and Plenty began previews on December 28, 1982 and ran through March 27, 1983

so the shows were playing next to each other for a couple of months an in the Good Plenty order since the Booth is next to what was then called the Plymouth Theatre and is now called the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (the theatre next to it was called the Royale and is now the Bernard Jacobs Theatre).

Overheard 50 years ago:

Comments Made In The Year 1957
==============================

I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are,
it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $20.

Have you seen the new cars coming out next year?
It won't be long before $2000 will only buy a used one.

If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit.
A quarter a pack is ridiculous.

Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime
just to mail a letter?

If they raise the minimum wage to $1, nobody will be able to
hire outside help at the store.

When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would
someday cost 29 cents a gallon.
Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage.

Kids today are impossible.  Those duck tail hair cuts make it
impossible to stay groomed.  Next thing you know, boys will be
wearing their hair as long as the girls.

I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more.  Ever since
they let Clark Gable get by with saying, "damn" in "Gone With The
Wind," it seems every new movie has either hell or damn in it.

I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to
put a man on the moon by the end of the century.  They even have
some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas.

Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract
for $75,000 a year just to play ball?  It wouldn't surprise me
if someday they'll be making more than the president.

I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would
be electric.  They are even making electric typewriters now.

It's too bad things are so tough nowadays.  I see where a few
married women are having to work to make ends meet.

It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire
someone to watch their kids so they can both work.

Marriage doesn't mean a thing any more; those Hollywood stars
seem to be getting divorced at the drop of a hat.

I'm just afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to
a whole lot of foreign business.

Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government
takes half our income in taxes.  I sometimes wonder if we are
electing the best people to Congress.

The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather,
but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.

There is no sense going to Lincoln or Omaha anymore for a
weekend.  It costs nearly $15 a night to stay in a hotel.

No one can afford to be sick any more; $35 a day in the hospital
is too rich for my blood.

If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a hair cut, forget it.

Yup, the Hamlet plays. We're opening Saturday, as you could see. Last night was our first rehearsal in the actual space!

The writers had to pick a character from Hamlet to write a play about. My friend chose Ophelia.

It is a cute piece, and it was taking some time to gel. But I think we've turned a corner and it's going to work. Ah yes, Carrot-stick girl... She has some comedic skills. Have had to get rid of some weird mannerisms she sometimes develops, but haven't had any carrot-stick issues. She was eating a burrito yesterday prior to rehearsal, so I have heard her eat.

Thursday afternoon greetings from Cleveland, OH!  I've been on the road since I left work Monday and was only able to peek in on the posts once Tuesday (at Bexley, OH, Public Library, where chat rooms are forbidden) and once Wednesday (at the Columbus, OH, Apple Store, where I had to pretend to be interested in buying an iBook).  Actually, that pretending wasn't too difficult, because DH Richard and I have decided that we're going to have to have something portable for traveling.  Anyway, I'm here in Cleveland now at my favorite Hampton Inn which has a very nice business center for guest use and lots of great shopping nearby.

My seminars in Columbus Tuesday and Wednesday were very worthwhile, but my hotel (a Hampton Inn) was in a pretty crummy part of town.  I stayed in both evenings, which I didn't mind, because I got to see part 1 of the HBO Elizabeth I and the PBS South Pacific.  Tonight, I'll see Part 2 of Elizabeth I.  I thought I'd just have to wait for the DVD, since we don't have HBO at home.

I'll be going out soon to find some dinner and will try to check back in during the chat!

I don't have any particular "favorite" memories of this site. I'd never posted on a site before I posted on this one (bk suggested that I post and I resisted - couldn't see the point. But he can be persistent.) I like the people here and have made many friends all over the world through HHW. As I spend most of my days alone, writing, with imaginary folks (real to me) running around in my head, it's a great feeling to know that with one keystroke I can usually find some friends with whom I'm pretty comfortable to either talk with or simply watch. That's why I returned after my long absence. Even though I kept in touch with many of my HHW friends outside the site, I missed the 24/7 feeling of friendly souls a keystroke away -- the idea that I wasn't alone at my desk. (And yet I am - which is the best of both worlds. Because if there were actual flesh and blood people in the room while I was writing, it would drive me crazy. ...And if Mr. Kimmel were present, he'd add, "Not a long drive." So, as my good deed for the day, I'll do it for him.)

Well, remember MRBK, that we all write line by line.....

And as Mr Irving Thalberg complained to his writers:  What is this writing business anyway?  It's not that difficult.  It's just putting one work after the other.

And Mr Charles MacArthur said:  Excuse me, Irving.  But it's putting one RIGHT word after the other.

I have just written the word: CURTAIN.

Eighty-five very full pages (the nature of writing in Final Draft).  I'm sure I'll be adding another page or two of additions, although who knows.  I like the ending very much.

And some people on this here site will be very happy to know that there is an extended little tribute to Valley Of The Dolls and especially Miss Patty Duke, with one line in particular quoted several times - it is, in fact, the final line of the play (should I be happy with what I just wrote).  That is because the leading male character's name is Peter Neely - but he hates his first name, and his close friends call him Neely.  I'll let you all figure out the quoted line.

Frankie Howerd also had a very funny half-hour show called UP POMPEII which was a  burlesque farce set in ancient Pompeii, very much echoing FORUM and its Roman comedy antecedents in style. He, of course, played the wily slave.  I've got them in Video format...don't know if they ever came out on DVD.

There are isolated cries of racism over on another chat board because of the Drama desk nominators completely shutting out COLOR PURPLE.  I don't want to get into the fray over there, lest I be decried as a suck-up to some of the nominators, but they also completely shut out [title of show] after all.  I'm not sure I agree that disliking a show is a reason to shut out all of its elements, but racism is a tag that just doesn't seem to belong in this situation, in particular when you look at the history of these nominators as a group.

I'm getting senile too. I forget, did I mention I'm seeing [title of show] tomorrow evening? My friend lives across the hall from the creators and he has heard the show through the walls in rehearsal and through revisions. It's closing on Sunday. No word yet, at least that I've heard, on whether it will move. I hope it doesn't move to Broadway because from what I hear it's just not a "Broadway" show. I know it's hard to make money off-Broadway but some shows don't belong on Broadway. There are lots of nice stages available. If it moves I hope it goes someplace small. The Vineyard size is good. It's closing because the Vineyard's next show has to go in and they can't extend anymore. It's why Grey Gardens is closing also. Playwrights has to open the next show, The Busy World is Hushed, with Miss Christine Lahti. Anyway, I babble. I will stop babbling.

BTW, FJL, I agree. I don't think racism was the cause of the Color Purple shutout at DD, although as I mentioned, I do think that La Chanze should have been noticed for her work.

Hi all!

Wow, I was very impressed by the new number of posts we had yesterday!  I'm sorry I was not party to them.

I have many special memories of HHW.  My first "live" meeting with a DR--which was Elmore.  And then the March Meeting when a group of us met for BK's book reading and to see DR Pennyo's show.  Then how can I forget the Walking Tour and the Girls Night Out With The Guys? What can I say about the very dear friends I have made here?  The phone calls, the cards, the letters, the flowers and such an outpouring of friendship that enriched my life more then I can express?

But I guess one of the major memories I have is finding a place on the internet where the major theme wasn't to fight with everyone else on the  board.  What a joy to talk with people from all over the world that are different ages and more important, to see everyone here get along.

To my somewhat tin ear, the orchestrations sounded like the stage musical.

I thouroughly enjoyed last night's presentation.  I was prepared, at the most, to be bored by it, but found myself loving the majority of it.  I thought Stokes and McEntire were ideal in those roles.  Not so crazy about Cable and Liat.

I agree, DR DtM.  Got a kick out of Alec Baldwin losing his place and Reba's reaction.  I cried at the end, and cried even harder when Reba fell apart.

Goddaughter Charlotte was absolutely stunning in BABES IN ARMS, and I was extremely proud of her.  Good band, a lot of laughs.  I sat with my friend Evans Haile, who conducted the recording of BABES IN ARMS with Jason Graae, Judy Blazer, Judy Kaye, and Greg Eddelman.  We laughed a lot and had a great time.

Charlotte's father is up for a Daytime Emmy tomorrow night.  I have to remember to tape it for her since she will be in her show tomorrwo night.

Good for Charlotte, DR Elmore!  Someday, I'd like to meet her.

My meeting tomorrow is at the Cleveland regional office of the Foundation Center.  I learned Tuesday that the new Spiderman movie is being filmed along Euclid Avenue, right in front of the building in which the FC is located.  In fact, the film company trailers are parked in the lot where I usually park when I visit this location.  Hmm, guess I'll have to find another place to leave my car.

A little celebration music (or lyrics) in honor of the new plateau.  It's almost the weekend, after all.

Stomp Lyrics

Steppin' out the weekends open wide
Fill it up let's blast the jams and ride
While we're cruisin' around in the street
Listen up for the party in feet

Slap me five that's the place we've arrived it's alive
Ev'rybody take it to the top we're gonna
Stomp all night in the neighbourhood
Don't it feel all right gonna
Stomp all night wanna party
Till the morning light

Runnin' runnin' runnin'
The set is hot there's people wall to wall
Old ones young things short ones standing tall
So Grab the one with the smile on her face

And hit the floor and stay right on the case
The heat is on and the funk just won't leave us alone
Ev'rybody take it to the top we're gonna

Stomp all night in the neighbourhood
Don't it feel all right gonna
Stomp all night wanna party
Till the morning light gonna

Stomp all night in the neighbourhood
Don't it feel all right gonna
Stomp all night wanna party
Till the morning light

Stomp

(x 3)
Stomp step down in it put your foot
Where you feel the fit
Stomp you don't want to quit
Put your heels where you're feeling it

(repeat - fades)
Stomp all night in the neighbourhood
Don't it feel all right gonna
Stomp all night wanna party
Till the morning light

And now, for your easy listening pleasure, as HHW makes its way towards 250,000, here's Ryan Adams' song "Easy Plateau"

Easy Plateau

Let's take a ride to the easy plateau
Where the cold don't come and the wind don't blow
Moonlight flickers on the water below
The orange grove blossoms
In the orange grove
Bad nights lead to better days
It doesn't matter but I think about it anyway

I want a easy plateau
Some place to rest my head
I want an easy plateau
Some place to rest my head
For awhile, for awhile, for awhile
For a little while

Sleepyhead, come on let's take a ride
To the easy plateau in the back of your mind
Up through the alley, take the door under the stairs
My head ain't feeling nothing but cats and rocking chairs
Bad nights lead to better days
It never happens but I think about it anyway
I want an easy plateau
Some place to hang my head
I want an easy plateau
Some place to hang my head
For awhile, for awhile, for awhile
For a little while

How do I hold on to you
If I can't hold on to me
How do I hold on to you
I want an easy plateau
Some place to rest my head for a little while

I want an easy plateau
Some place to rest my head
I want an easy plateau
Some place to rest my head
An easy plateau

Since it's a little quiet around these parts, here's a song from Nirvana called, simply, PLATEAU:

many a hand has scaled the grand old face of the plateau
some belong to strangers and some to folks you know
holy ghosts and talk show hosts are planted in the sand
to beautify the foothills and shake the many hands
there's nothing on the top but a bucket and a mop
and an illustrated book about birds
you see a lot up there but don't be scared
who needs action when you got words
when you're finished with the mop then you can stop
and look at what you've done
the plateau's clean, no dirt to be seen
and the work it took was fun
well the many hands began to scan around for the next plateau
some said it was in greenland and some in mexico
some decided it was nowhere except for where they stood
but they were all just guesses, wouldn't help you if they could

GUYS & DOLLS continued to be fun. I got basically to the end of where Act I would have been when the gamblers rush out of the mission after Sky and Sarah return from Havana.

Neither Brando nor Jean Simmons is the world's best vocalist, but you'd look hard to find a more effervescent performance than Jean's of "If I Were a Bell," and Brando's reactions to her playfulness are loads of fun. I think it's the best number in the movie.

SMALLVILLE had an entertaining episode but resorted to two of its old standbys:

spoilers - - - - - - - -

1. The villain with a ready supply of kryptonite to use against Clark.

2. A visitor trudging up the steps to the barn loft at the end of the episode to have a heart-to-heart with Clark. How overworked that device has become in the years this show has been on the air.

CSI had an unusual episode tonight

spoilers - - - - - - - -

with the team carelessly losing the evidence and spending the rest of the hour backtracking to solve the case anyway. Greg's laconic Raymond Chandler-like narration of his segment was pretty hysterical, and George Eads had his t-shirt cut off him in a very provocative scene. Some nice eye candy for us fans tonight!

I meant to mention that on CSI tonight, Veronica Cartwright played the corpse. Usually, a celebrity with that kind of name recognition isn't hired to play the corpse, but there were so many flashbacks used in the telling of the tale that she actually had one of the biggest roles in the show this week.

When I think about HHW, it isn't the moments or the memories that come to mind first.  As others have already said, it is the wonderful family of people who care so much and share so much at this site.  I have made a lot of life-long friends here, even though I haven't met all of them them face to face, yet.  I think the key to the heart of this site is BK himself.  If someone asked me if I knew anyone in, say, New York, or Florida, or California, or Australia I would very truthfully have to say, yes.

WILL & GRACE had one of its latter day best episodes that mixed poignancy with humor as Will dealt with the aftermath of his father's funeral. Lots of guest stars this week as the show winds doiwn its eighth year. Looks like they're trying to get the WILL & GRACE family of guest actors who have had recurring roles during the series' run to have a concluding episode for themselves.
