George and I got a little frenzied in the posting department!!
I will try and make it to chat but I do work and it will depend on how quiet it is..
A little??
;)
I'll be at work also. So will my supervisor. ::) I probably will only be able to pop in every once in a while. Maybe I can take my break and put up a sign saying, "I'm On My Break!"

DRMATTH - as you mentioned in passing last night....for some reason Walter Plunkett and/or the other MGM dress designers somehow decided that if a character lived in or was FROM the country, their dresses and skirts would be all rickrack, patterns, sweetheart necklines, ruffles, and curious sleeves.
Thanks to DRs Jennifer and Cillaliz for the Spoiler Warnings on their TAR discussions--I got home a little late last night and have yet to watch it. I shall view it tonight.
Did the producers of THE COLOR PURPLE withdraw their show from consideration? I knew TARZAN wasn't eligible for Oouter Critics or DD this season, but what happened with THE COLOR PURPLE?
Dan - WELL was eligible for the Drama Desk when essentially the same production played off-Broadway a few years back, so it wasn't eligible now.

I'm really not sure who will win. Because once someone is voted off it's hard to know where their fans will vote.
But I don't think elliot or paris have a chance. Elliot got the highest praise and was still most likely bottom 3. And paris has continually been in the bottom.
I am disappointed that kellie was voted off. Although i agree her confidence was way down the past 2 weeks, and that showed.
I still really hate it when someone gets voted off without being in the bottom ever. But i guess with all good singers left it's hard to know who to vote out.
I really think katharine has to be growing in popularity. If she could be top 2 after the judges' comments then that is great for her. And i'm guessing chris' fans just assumed he was safe last week (and that is why they did not vote for him).
Right now i would like katharine to win. I do like all the others though. I'm wondering if we will have a chris/katharine or a chris/taylor finale.
DR George, run to your library's CD sextion and check out a "Trial by Jury." It's a 45-minute piece of comic genius embodying everything that Gilbert & Sullivan did well: legal logic, opera parody, topsy-turvydom, and some insane situations, all served up with a lot of good tunes. I've always liked the EMI-Angel recording conducted by Malcolm Sargent with the wonderful Elsie Morrison as the Plaintiff.
Would it be a fair guess that's last night's music orchestrations drew more from the film than the orginal show?

Done! And the library where I work has the Malcolm Sargent recording! I also requested a video that has "Trial by Jury" with Frankie Howerd(!) and "Cox and Box" (which I've never heard of) with no one I've ever heard of.

The Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization has taken advantage of concerts, like this and the CAROUSEL with Hugh Jackman, to restore the shows from their original full orchestra scores and a complete overhaul of the vocal and orchestral materials for rental in their theatre library. I was proofreading their new edition of KING & I while they were rushing to finish the concert deadline for SOUTH PACIFIC.
How big a pit did the original productions of South Pacific have?
Will we be getting a "King and I" concert?

Dan - IIRC, weren't the plays GOOD and PLENTY running at side-by-side theaters at some point? I believe that GOOD was at the Booth while PLENTY was at the Plymouth. I thought I had seen a picture of the two marquees side by side.
A note on last evening's "South Pacific":
It was a real joy to have the work performed with so many musicians - all of Robert Russell Bennett's orchestrations right up there - front and center.
It's sad that today's musical theatre is reluctant to really fill out a pit and let the music shine; the "Wonderful Town" revival, a welcome exception.
Would it be a fair guess that's last night's music orchestrations drew more from the film than the original show?

PS It was nice to hear a Nellie that sounded like she was fromSmallLittle Rock.
Miss Christine Baranski in Mame
Not so crazy about Cable and Liat.
George, Frankie Howerd was Pseudolus in the first London production of Forum (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the). I have it on CD. They call it a "soundtrack" at Amazon but it's the London cast recording.
Forum (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000002SOL/002-1255842-6220042?v=glance&n=5174)
Someone on amazon.co.uk is selling the London "Forum" for £149.99!! :o That's almost $300!!
Cable seemed to be having problems with his mid-range.
And only a consumate professional like Alec Baldwin could loose his place in a reading!

Hoo and Ray, my Memorial Day plans are shaping up. I'm going (with a friend) to DC to visit other friends and to see Miss Christine Baranski in Mame at the Kennedy Center! My friend in DC is a KC member so she's taking care of the tickets. We will get in probably Friday night (it's a half day at my office) and return to NY on Monday.
It's out of print and hard to find but even I find that egregious :DDownright egreedious 8)
I donno--that looked a "bit" to me.
George, if you've had the London Forum for years I don't think it was me who sent it to you.
Gadzooks! It took me awhile to catch up after last night's Hainanigans. That's right, a new word: Hainanigans! That's HHW shenanigans for those seeking clarity.
20 pages! Excellent!
DR LAURA - I think MRBK mentioned opening the chat room at 4pm PST.

Amazon has The Best of Eddy Howard: The Mercury Years.
What happened to the Jupiter Years? ::)
That's when he recorded his Nep-tunes.

Frankie Howerd also had a very funny half-hour show called UP POMPEII which was a burlesque farce set in ancient Pompeii, very much echoing FORUM and its Roman comedy antecedents in style. He, of course, played the wily slave. I've got them in Video format...don't know if they ever came out on DVD.
I have the big valley here - I may watch an episode later tonight.
Glad you are liking the music from Mrs Henderson Jack.. Will Young is what entertainment is all about! A worthy winner of a format copied throughout the world with such commercial crass. He is a delight.
JRand - There's a show whihc is actually called "[title of show]" - it's about a team of writers' experiences creating a show especially to submit for a festival.
Everything was beautiful at the valetI was about to write that it is the support from FRIENDS on this here site (and their off site support too) that is so wonderful.

Dakota - I'm from Brooklyn - first ten years in Flatbush, then moved to Luna Park. Moved to Manhattan in 1986.
Soundtrack does have all the songs DR JRand.
I'd love Will to do an album of similar material - Ben's Ant. would love it.
Hi all!
Wow, I was very impressed by the new number of posts we had yesterday! I'm sorry I was not party to them.
I have many special memories of HHW. My first "live" meeting with a DR--which was Elmore. And then the March Meeting when a group of us met for BK's book reading and to see DR Pennyo's show. Then how can I forget the Walking Tour and the Girls Night Out With The Guys? What can I say about the very dear friends I have made here? The phone calls, the cards, the letters, the flowers and such an outpouring of friendship that enriched my life more then I can express?
But I guess one of the major memories I have is finding a place on the internet where the major theme wasn't to fight with everyone else on the board. What a joy to talk with people from all over the world that are different ages and more important, to see everyone here get along.
Did anyone else used to think that Cathy enjoyed a minuet, the Valley Roos, and crepe suzette?
(a full-circle PATTY DUKE reference)
How do you join the chat....

LOL DR GINNY.....can you try a different browser?

I left the chat room so I could be with those who can't get in.

Yes, I did. How is your trip going?
Uh, no. We will not be installing a larger pet door.
It's going fine. I made my way from Columbus to Cleveland today via the Longaberger Homestead. Sort of Longaberger Basket Disneyland. What days are you going to be in NYC this fall?
Pictures?

To my somewhat tin ear, the orchestrations sounded like the stage musical.
I thouroughly enjoyed last night's presentation. I was prepared, at the most, to be bored by it, but found myself loving the majority of it. I thought Stokes and McEntire were ideal in those roles. Not so crazy about Cable and Liat.
I never understood "a hotdog makes her lose control" until a couple of years ago.

What's going on in the chat room?
Goddaughter Charlotte was absolutely stunning in BABES IN ARMS, and I was extremely proud of her. Good band, a lot of laughs. I sat with my friend Evans Haile, who conducted the recording of BABES IN ARMS with Jason Graae, Judy Blazer, Judy Kaye, and Greg Eddelman. We laughed a lot and had a great time.
Charlotte's father is up for a Daytime Emmy tomorrow night. I have to remember to tape it for her since she will be in her show tomorrwo night.
Sorry I missed Chat. I love it.
And now, for your easy listening pleasure, as HHW makes its way towards 250,000, here's Ryan Adams' song "Easy Plateau"
Easy Plateau
Let's take a ride to the easy plateau
Where the cold don't come and the wind don't blow
Moonlight flickers on the water below
The orange grove blossoms
In the orange grove
Bad nights lead to better days
It doesn't matter but I think about it anyway
I want a easy plateau
Some place to rest my head
I want an easy plateau
Some place to rest my head
For awhile, for awhile, for awhile
For a little while
Sleepyhead, come on let's take a ride
To the easy plateau in the back of your mind
Up through the alley, take the door under the stairs
My head ain't feeling nothing but cats and rocking chairs
Bad nights lead to better days
It never happens but I think about it anyway
I want an easy plateau
Some place to hang my head
I want an easy plateau
Some place to hang my head
For awhile, for awhile, for awhile
For a little while
How do I hold on to you
If I can't hold on to me
How do I hold on to you
I want an easy plateau
Some place to rest my head for a little while
I want an easy plateau
Some place to rest my head
I want an easy plateau
Some place to rest my head
An easy plateau
Of my trip? No, I left my digital camera at home for DS Rob to use for a class project. If I'd had it with me here's what I would have photographed:
The Chihuly glass sculptures that are all over the Franklin Park Conservatory (where my seminars were Tuesday and Wednesday)
The exquisite orchid plant in the Conservatory's entrance
The Longaberger Main Office building that's designed to look just like one of the baskets

My mom had the same surgery last September and the hyp replacement is totally made of titanium!
Is your surgeon considering using such for you!

Back from the dialogue mix - we finished it, so tomorrow the editor continues letterboxing the show, and on Saturday our intention is to wrap it all up.
Oui, François, my current hip it titanium, and I assume from what the surgeon said; that they will be replacing it with the same material. Thanks for the website. I am considering asking the surgeon if I can have the old parts that he removes. I am visualizing a modern sculpture of some kind.
