I'm soooo tired, but I'm up and I'm not ready to go to bed yet, so here I am, here I'll stay, with our late night Hainsies/Kimlets. Anyone for pancakes?
Well, it seems DR Shayne either has a stange snese of time, travels by Tardis, or is a leg-puller cause:
Yesterday he posted a pic and asked:
"Does anyone out there in LA know if this place still exist? I took a picture of it a couple of months ago"
Well, according to http://www.gardenofallah.com/GOA_original.htm (http://the Garden of Allah) website:
In its heyday 'The Garden' was home to, amongst many others; Robert Benchley, Ernest Hemmingway, Gloria Stuart, the Marx brothers,
F. Scott Fitzgerald, Sheilah Graham (author of a magnificent book, "The Garden of Allah" Crown Publishing 1970) Dorothy Parker, Errol Flynn, Greta Garbo, and Humphrey Bogart. It was torn down in June 1959. In attendance was Francis X. Bushman, famed for the silent "Ben Hur." He and his wife Iva had attended the opening party as well. It is now a pink strip mall with a MacDonald's, a Subway Sandwich Shop, and a pizza place - but no bar.
They even offer this pic:

TARDIS--I see a fellow Dr. Who Fan!I'm afraid I'm the one at fault for getting GeordieMc (a.k.a. der Brucer) at all familiar with the Doctor. I was hooked on the series when we first met, which created a great deal of ribbing. Needless to say, he ended up finding out a great deal about the series as time and space went on.

Who (no pun intended :) ) is your favorite Doctor, Geordiemc? Tom Baker Rules!
Well, this is an unpleasant first - logging on at 12:30 and finding no one perusing this board.
OK, DR Ron threw down the gauntlet last night in expressing his extreme recommendation for STRICTLY BALLROOM, and one other person chimed in with support. He has assured me that it is not in the frenzied, headache-inducing style of the same director's MOULIN ROUGE, so I would love to hear some other opinions about this film. I will eventually rent it to be "in the know" about this director's films, but do others share this same overwhelming enthusiasm for the movie as DR Ron does?
A HUGE happy birthday wish to DR Jane, one of the nicest people to ever grace the HHW forum!!! Hope you have a wonderful day!
, but I think the best season of the series was The Key to Time, during Tom Baker's run, which I would like to have on DVD some day..
DR MBarnum has a new photo up.
He doesn't say who it is, but it favors him.
It looks like a photo from the Eisenhower 1950s (black and white photo, well-dressed young man with a crewcut!) or the early. pre-Beatles 1960s.
Oooo....just thought of another good question for discussion for DRs! If you were doing a cabaret show, what would your theme be? Would you focus it around a certain composer or idea?
And ohbytheway! Is anyone else as concerned as I am that Jennifer is playing with a glue gun? That there is actually a glue gun in her house???????
We have all learned why this is not a good idea, but shouldn't there be some licensing involved?
Jennifer: The Hildy segments of "Trading Spaces" are not instructional! They edit out safety precautions that everyone should take when actually applying those melted glue sticks to surfaces.
And ohmygoshbutwhatwereyougluingwhenyouburnedyourinde xfinger? Youweren'ttryingtodofeathersyourselfwereyou?
That is indeed me, myself, and I. A buddy of mine took that picture a not too long ago when he was taking a photo course at Chemeketa Community College. He used me as a project for taking portraits or something. I wanted a nice photo to use for the back of a book cover if I should ever write a book.It is indeed a very nice picture, and makes you look quite butch!

Jane and BK celebrating:
Tell us more about that dance floor, dear Jane.
And tell us what foodstuffs you're having for your glorious birthday.
It is indeed a very nice picture, and makes you look quite butch!
Thanks for the nice comments on the picture. It is the first time I have been able to get a picture up that didn't turn out blurry!
Some think that I look like my dad, and for a truely vintage photo here he is circa 1945. Eventually he turned into Wilfred Brimley, however.
Hey! If you send me as large a scanned image file as you can of that old photo I'll touch it up and get it looking as if it were taken yesterday. Email it to me at mark@hijinks.com if you're interested!
Oh, and chat in ten minutes.
C'mon, Jane, do tell.
I hope you are having the most marvelous birthday because you are a most marvelous gal.
The best selection of cabaret songs I've seen recently was about a year ago at Don't Tell Mama:
You There in the Back Row
The Kid Inside
Stools
Hello Tom
Nothing Really Happened
Fifteen Pounds Away From My Love
So Many People
Watching the Show
I Can Do This
You Can Be a New Yorker Too
I Have Found
Everybody know these songs? And who sang them?
And did anyone ever answer my query as to who wrote "Not Exactly Paris"?
Noel-
NOT EXACTLY PARIS was written by Russell George and Michael Leonard and is on Nancy LaMotts's" LISTEN TO MY HEART "CD. The last CD she made,I believe.
And ohbytheway! Is anyone else as concerned as I am that Jennifer is playing with a glue gun? That there is actually a glue gun in her house???????

Noel--love the ditty...which is entirely facetious of course!
