Title: HAZARDOUS WASTE
Post by: bk on December 07, 2003, 12:14:16 AM
Well, you know what a special day it is if you've read the notes, so let's party until the cows come home and then let's chat until the cows come home, and let's post until the cows come home, too.

I knew SOMEONE would get in a last post and upset the balance.  I am now setting the balance right, because to be unbalanced is unseemly.

I also remember a store near Bookstar that sold costumes from the studios. But Ibelieve it is gone now. I tried to post this on the previous board but I was too late. This was a carry over from where Bruce said he saw the film Mr. Quilp at the movie theater on Ventura in Studio City that is now Bookstar. I never knew it as a movie theater, but I thought that it might have been one. It Looks like one.

I am not usually up this late but I fell asleep while watching Where Eagles Dare. A favorite of mine and woke up with the last twenty minutes to go. Even though I have seen it many many times it is is an exciting conclusion. Dear Clint Eastwood must have killed more people in this film that all his other films put together. I am not usually the last poster on the previous day or am I the first. So I am not trying to prove a point. But it is a free for alll dat afterall. TOM FROM OZ posted the poster from SORDUD LIVE> A film I really enjoyed seeing. I cannot reccommed it highly enough.

How wonderfully exciting!  I always knew that December was a time for celebration, but now that I have joined HHW I truly know the meaning of celebration.  Not only do we have those religious holidays (Christmas, Hanukah) and cultural holidays (Kwanza), but we also have all these wonderful birthday celebrations for various and sundried Kimlets.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JANE![/size]

(And BK, who is going to be responsible for cutting up all these ham chunks?)

The Chicago City Limits show was delightful.  I thought of Swishy Sarah (her sister, actually) as we improvised a musical about a soccer-playing Seventh Grader.  (She sang "Oh, soccer ball - you're black and white and black and white and black and white all over.")

It's really a shame that this troupe (which has their own theatre) is closing after roughly a quarter century.  In playing for them, there's a mirror image for me.  My first job was as the first musical director of Off the Wall on Fairfax Avenue, which went on to run for about 20 years.  And now I catch the tail end of CCL.  I feel like Dave Righetti, going from being a starter to a closer.

BTW, I cannot type properly today.I do not want to use my left index finger.

I was using a gluegun last night while hildy was "feathering" and I touched something I glued and got hot glue on my finger.

I could have sworn such things had happened before. But I was in so much pain I could not bear it. I took an ice cube and the pain went away. But the moment I took my finger off the ice cube I was in immense pain. I ended up just sitting with my finger in a mug of water and ice.

But my 11pm I was tired. And still in much pain. So I took an ice pack with me and placed it on towels. The pain didn't stop till 4am. So I am sooo tired. And I'm trying not to use that finger. So typing is hard.

For Swishy: Just read your account of your audition.

THAT SOUNDS TERRIBLE!!

I cannot believe that they treated you like that.  Sorry. But don't let it get to you. You did your best. And at least no matter what you have this audition experience.

Thanks Jen..

Well ladies and gentlemen, I am off to school to go and study for my upcoming exams. Unfortunately, i've been behind in my readings so for the last few days I've been catching up on the readings. Now I can properly study. And hate it. I hate the library during exam time. The library that I wanted to go to (Birks reading room) is closed, so I must go and study with the mostly likely unwashed and over perfumed masses in Club Redpath. (known as club redpath cause the girls actually wear clothing that would be better suited to clubing to study-- oy!)

Bonne Fête DR Jane

Happy Birthday, DR Jane! Hope you have many more (and stop counting them as I have been forced to do!)

I will not be at chat tonight. HBO is premiering ANGELS IN AMERICA: MILLENIUM APPROACHES tonight at 8 p.m. EST, and there is no way on earth I'll miss it. According to my local guide, it's also being broadcast in high definition which will make watching it an added pleasure. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to seeing this much publicized work. I saw both parts of the stage version, and I'm really excited about seeing a $60 millionfilm translation handled by real pros and written for the screen by the original author.

OK, DR Ron threw down the gauntlet last night in expressing his extreme recommendation for STRICTLY BALLROOM, and one other person chimed in with support. He has assured me that it is not in the frenzied, headache-inducing style of the same director's MOULIN ROUGE, so I would love to hear some other opinions about this film. I will eventually rent it to be "in the know" about this director's films, but do others share this same overwhelming enthusiasm for the movie as DR Ron does?

"Happy Birthday to YOUUUUUU!
Happy Birthday to YOUUUUUUU!
Happy Birthday DEAR READER JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNE!
Happy Birthday to YOUUUUUUU!"

"And many morrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre"
:)

DR Andrea:  Birks is closed during exams?  How strange... Although I will admit that as the Religious Studies library you will have a far less chance of spending your afternoon watching a girl with low-rise jeans and a backless sweater. :)

DR Michael Shayne:  Is it just me, or is that cheese plate in the pic you showed absolutely too over-the-top "cheesy"?

I'm off to study for my Women and the Christian Tradition exam tomorrow afternoon.  Cheers!

Well, it seems DR Shayne either has a stange snese of time, travels by Tardis, or is a leg-puller cause:

Yesterday he posted a pic and asked:

"Does anyone out there in LA know if this place still exist? I took a picture of it a couple of months ago"

Well, according to http://www.gardenofallah.com/GOA_original.htm (http://the Garden of Allah) website:

In its heyday 'The Garden' was home to, amongst many others; Robert Benchley, Ernest Hemmingway, Gloria Stuart, the Marx brothers,
F. Scott Fitzgerald, Sheilah Graham (author of a magnificent book, "The Garden of Allah" Crown Publishing 1970) Dorothy Parker, Errol Flynn, Greta Garbo, and Humphrey Bogart. It was torn down in June 1959. In attendance was Francis X. Bushman, famed for the silent "Ben Hur." He and his wife Iva had attended the opening party as well. It is now a pink strip mall with a MacDonald's, a Subway Sandwich Shop, and a pizza place - but no bar.

They even offer this pic:

I really did take this picture a couple of months ago. I had heard about this place and was wondering if it still existed. It is a standing set at Universal Orlando. I am reposting the picture so we can compare the older photo that der Brucer posted.

I am having a wonderful birthday so far.  I love weekend birthdays.  Bogie left me a funny card this morning, then Echo delivered her own card, and of course Keith had a sweet one for me.  Then I came here and there was this BIG birthday cake greeting me.  So now I have a birthday cake.  All of the greetings are fun and making me very happy.

I want pancakes now.  How about DuPars when I’m in L.A.?

Good afternoon.

Well, I read my usual three sections of the paper - at least the Washington Post: Arts, Travel and Sunday Source (kind of catch-all section of fun stuff).  Hmmm... A 3-day winter vacation in Paris for only $385 - hotel, airfare and some touristy things included... hmmm...  Something tells me I'll be calling the tourism office tomorrow.  *If anyone is interested in checking this deal out: franceguide.com.

I also google-d over to the West Virginia Public Theatre site (wvpublictheatre.org) - DR Jason's production of Scrooge actually opens tomorrow night, December 8, and runs through the end of the week.  Unfortunately, there's no production info on the site, you have to call for info and tickets.  In any case, Good Vibes should be sent out (again) tomorrow - although Good Vibes during tech aren't a bad thing either.  -I wonder if Jason's cell phone is working... hmmm...

Well, I think I'm going to be productive for a bit and get some laundry done - even though I don't like doing small loads, just don't like using all that water.  At least I can adjust the water level in the machine, but still... I'll see what else I can gather to make a full load.

Danise, I do watch Jag.  I haven’t had time to watch in awhile (Keith doesn’t watch with me) and have several episodes saved for a future date.  I haven’t done my Christmas cards either, in fact, for the first time in 34 years they won’t be done at all.

Geordiemc the dog pictures are cute.

Tom from Oz thanks.  Echo seems fine.  The sun just peeked through the clouds so we shall try for a walk now.  I was too busy cooking yesterday and we didn’t get out.  She was a bit peeved at me and kept barking.

I'm afraid I'm the one at fault for getting GeordieMc (a.k.a. der Brucer) at all familiar with the Doctor.  I was hooked on the series when we first met, which created a great deal of ribbing.  Needless to say, he ended up finding out a great deal about the series as time and space went on.

I just asked him, interrupting his crossword puzzle solving in the process, and he's torn between "The guy with the old car" and "The guy who wore the celery stalk."  (That's Jon Pertwee and Peter Davison, the third and fifth Doctors, for those who have trouble remembering.)  I've also got a soft spot for Davison, and for Sylvester McCoy, the seventh Doctor, but I think the best season of the series was The Key to Time, during Tom Baker's run, which I would like to have on DVD some day.

While we're at it, who were your favorite companions for the Doctor?  I always liked Lalla Ward as the second Romana, and Janet Fielding as Tegan.

Maybe everyone has had a break in the bad weather and are all outside basking in sunshine!  We're having such a break here in the Bay Area...the skies are blue and the sun is shining for the first time since Wednesday.

You should be eating lots of this today:

Well, I had a lovely sleepover at my friend's house.  She, our friend Steven and I went to see "Love Actually," which I thought was witty, sweet and adorable.  Hmmm....here's a question....who is the cuter British rogue, Colin Firth or Hugh Grant?  I can't decide.

I want to see "Strictly Ballroom." Luhrmann isn't my favorite director, but his aesthetic sense is hard to top.

Swishy--I'm sorry to hear about what happened at the audition!  I haven't heard you sing yet (STILL waiting for voice clips, ahem) but I'm sure you are definitely talented enough to have your pick of cabaret shows to perform in.  You don't need to be working with people who are going to hold your age against you.

Have you thought about developing you OWN cabaret show?  I have one friend who did it and even performed it in NYC when she wasn't much older than you.

Oooo....just thought of another good question for discussion for DRs!  If you were doing a cabaret show, what would your theme be?  Would you focus it around a certain composer or idea?

Well, I have to write a paper for American Lit but I will def. be around for chat. (Wow, reading Juliana's Journal is having an effect on me!)

Hey DR Danise: Did you notice your post says Happy Birthday Ann :)

My feet are hurting so bad.  Just came home from a long day of shopping.

Something interesting happened when we got to the cash.  Our item scanned at much less than what it was supposed to be.

I will be getting (for Christmakah) a nice comfy long fluffy pillow. It was marked reduced for 12.99$. There was a huge sign in front of the pillows. And the tag on the pillow said 12.99.  My mom was buying it so I wasn't paying attention, but I heard her say, "did you see that?". And when i looked at the price that it scanned at it said $7 something plus tax.

Now I LOVE when this happens. It's a nice surprise.  And even if it was a mistake, they have to give it to you at the scanned price.

Although wouldn't more people buy the stuff if the proper discount was advertised.

A similar thing happened today for my pajamas. It said $34.99, but there was a red tag on them. When we asked, the cashier said they were an extra 25 or 30% off. Yet there was no sign on the rack!

Happy Sunday to all.

Shoot, I can't type anymore, my finger now has a big blister on it. And unless I want to type with one less finger, I must stop now.

And btw, it's still snowing lightly here :(

OK, DR Ron threw down the gauntlet last night in expressing his extreme recommendation for STRICTLY BALLROOM, and one other person chimed in with support. He has assured me that it is not in the frenzied, headache-inducing style of the same director's MOULIN ROUGE, so I would love to hear some other opinions about this film. I will eventually rent it to be "in the know" about this director's films, but do others share this same overwhelming enthusiasm for the movie as DR Ron does?

MattH -- It is a wonderful film and Paul Mecurio is superb.  I also disliked Moulin Rouge, but Strictly Ballroom is a winner.

What can be said about Hildy?

She's a crap designer!

She has a huge ego and no concern for her clients.

If it were my room that had been covered in feathers, they would NOT have been able to use what I would have said...and the preview of the corrugated cardboard wall treatment was beyond repugnant.

I hate her.  And her crappy answer when Page asked her if "she" would want feathers on her wall: "Well, my house is ALL WHITE!"  She "experiments" on these shows with all these little ideas that pop into her head.  Believe me, the synapses are not firing good ideas!

It figures.  Pretentious (w)itch!

It's going to cost those homeowners about $5,000 to undo the damage Hildy did for $992.13.

Opps, I fixed my goof.  I'm sorry both to Ann and Jane!  I've been thinking (note not working) on my Christmas card list.  Must have gotten the names mixed up.

That happens when you live in the sea.   :)

I've been trying to get my scanner to work all afternoon but can't.  I wanted to show you fellow Dr. Who fans some pictures.  Since that didn't work I had to settle on using my digital camera.  Sorry they didn't turn out so great.

Really loved the new picture DR MBarnum, but it can't be from the Eisenhower era. He's not old enough to have been around then, much less a teen as he appears to be there. My goodness, how handsome!

I spent part of this afternoon watching an old tape of THE ODD COUPLE episodes from TV. Was that a hilarious show or what? The movie ODD COUPLE is a very good version of the stage hit, but I think Klugman and Randall are pitch perfect as Oscar and Felix in the TV series. I laughed and laughed.

My, my, my (that's 3 mys) I was actually able to read all the posts in a quick spurt on this late afternoon, kinda like the old days. I'm just checking in to say hello. I have so much to catch up on but I doubt that I will be able to do that.

Before I forget

Happy Birthday Jane

Glad I could be here for at least one of the festivities. As I remember, there are plenty of festivities coming up in the next few days. I will try to be here for some of them.

I still need to eat dinner and finish the NY Times. Don't know if I will be around for chat. I will try to be there. A friend is taping Angels in America for me. I saw the stage production (one of the finest pieces of theatre I have ever seen, it easily goes on my list of Top Ten) and I want to see this film version also. Part of the ending of my saga with Time-Warner Cable of NYC included me cancelling HBO so I will have to rely on the kindness of my friends who continue to have HBO. They will tape the final episodes of Sex in the City and both parts of Angels and Six Feet Under for me.

I'll try to be here later. TTFN.

I had some friends who were mad about DOCTOR WHO, but I could just never get into it. But isn't it great when a favorite show gets released on DVD so you can have it to watch whenever you want.

I was so disheartened when Fox Home Video announced it wasn't going to release any more seasons of THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW because the Season1 boxed set sold so poorly. I bought it, and I do like Season 1 very much, but I felt the show only got better as the years passed and the characters became richer and fuller creations.

I feel like I complain too much on the board. I come home and I vent about my day. There shall be no more of this! No more big complaints from Swishy.

Noel: How funny that you remember I have a seventh grade soccer-playing sister! Good memory!

I did NOT get cast in the Cabaret show, but when the director called, she said I had a wonderful audition, and she wished there were more spots in the show, or they would have cast me. Although I'm not in this show, I now have an automatic role in Valentines Follies in February, should I want it.

I don't even know what that is, I just smiled and said Thank You. I won't ever understand adults, no offense to the majority of the board.

Maya: I would have a romantic theme for my cabaret night, with swoon-worthy songs being sung. That's really cool about your friend, elaborate!

I'm off to a local church's youth group program with my friend. The church has a really fun thing called SNL (Sunday Night Live), with a band, games, etc. My friend was nervous about going by herself, so I'm keeping her company.

Oh, and wasn't there a birthday today? ;)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JANE! I hope your day is filled with smiles :).

Speaking of smiles, at the restaurant today, a man asked me if he cold have a straw. When I gave him one, he smiled the most GENUINE smile I've ever seen, and said "Thank you so much! You're the greatest!" in a completely sincere tone of voice. I was smiling for at least an hour afterwards, it was the nicest thing.

I just came back from my second visit today to the Studio City Farmers' Market. Why did I go twice, you ask. (And even if you don't, I'm about to tell you.) Well, I've been looking forward to checking out this once-weekly market. Missed it last week, so today, rain or shine, I was going. And I decided to take my faithful dog to give him a treat. He was very excited, knowing the way dogs do, that something interesting was about to happen. I drove along Ventura and parked a slight distance from the market. Abie (faithful dog) was now even more excited as he trotted along the Boulevard. We got to the market and were greeted by huge red signs: NO ANIMALS! Is that an outrage or what? Abie was very insulted. We walked along the outskirts of the market, peeking in like interlopers at HHW (nice ones) and then left. I have to say that the Farmers' Market in Boulder, CO welcomes dogs. I don't miss Boulder at all, but this one feature I do miss. And to add insult to injury, after I took Abie home and went back to the market, I saw a rather large woman with a tiny dog go right in like she owned the place.
...On a more pleasant topic - I want to once again wish Jane the happiest of days.

DR MBarnum has a new photo up.

He doesn't say who it is, but it favors him.

It looks like a photo from the Eisenhower 1950s (black and white photo, well-dressed young man with a crewcut!) or the early. pre-Beatles 1960s.

That is indeed me, myself, and I. A buddy of mine took that picture a not too long ago when he was taking a photo course at Chemeketa Community College. He used me as a project for taking portraits or something. I wanted a nice photo to use for the back of a book cover if I should ever write a book.

DR Sarah. Smiles are such wonderful things. I would much rather a sincere smile than a thousand robotic "have a nice days". At least your name and voice are known now and the Valentines thing could be fun. AND You now get to see "Mama Mia" (I think that was the show) so indeed good news win or lose.
I make Cds for elderly folk (older than me would you believe?) and their thank you letters give me much joy. Sincerity is still out there in the world. Thanks for sharing your "smile story". The straw that did not break the camel's back.

Otherwise, I'm off to have some pancakes and stuffed crepes at IHOP.  I had some last week and they weren't too bad.  And since they (the stuffed crepes) are only available for a limited time, this will probably be the last time that I have them.  However, the pancakes will be available for a much longer time.

More need not to know information. Way back in 1973 I stayed at Bed & Breakfast place in Cornwall. I loved the area and asked if I might stay for two more days than I had planned and then after that more days - the extra days were free. I have corresponded with the couple running the B & B every Christmas since. They are now both 92 years old. Sad I know but I always wait for the card each year before I send one back. God knows, they will probably outlive me anyway.

Just finished watching the most enjoyable Bollywood movie. It was called ANAND, and it is the best Indian film I have ever seen, in fact I now rank it as one of my top ten movies of all time. It was made in 1970 and was so uplifting! It is about a man who has terminal cancer but spends his remaining months bringing as much joy as he can to those around him. The star is the very hunky Rajeesh Khanna and I highly recommend it to anyone, Bollywood fan or no!

BK, have you watched any other Bollywood films other then GUMNAAM? There are so many good ones out there!

Oooo....just thought of another good question for discussion for DRs!  If you were doing a cabaret show, what would your theme be?  Would you focus it around a certain composer or idea?

The best selection of cabaret songs I've seen recently was about a year ago at Don't Tell Mama:

You There in the Back Row
The Kid Inside
Stools
Hello Tom
Nothing Really Happened
Fifteen Pounds Away From My Love
So Many People
Watching the Show
I Can Do This
You Can Be a New Yorker Too
I Have Found

Everybody know these songs?  And who sang them?

And did anyone ever answer my query as to who wrote "Not Exactly Paris"?

Oh, and

You don’t remember? ???

I’m just having leftovers from our dinner last night.  Guacamole dip, delicious artichoke crepes, wild rice, and sting beans with sautéed onions and portabella mushrooms.  For dessert I made a new recipe, pumpkin carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.   We were more than pleased with the dinner, so much so I decided not to go out tonight and just finish the leftovers.

I did not have an official birthday cake.  My favorite birthday treat is a Baskin Robbins white cake with chocolate chip ice cream, but eating an entire cake can be rather fattening.  Keith might have a piece or two but that’s it.  He prefers the non fat ice cream.

Well, dear readers, der Brucer and I have had an interesting day, to say the least.  We were already scheduled for a reception and a dinner, when from out of the blue we suddenly get a phone call from his daughter.  They (meaning her husband and his assistant) had a couch to deliver to us, and would we at all mind if they (meaning her husband, his assistant, plus the grandlads and herself) dropped by this afternoon?  This request was made when the five of them were already on the road, and less than an hour away.

You've never seen two men leap to house-cleaning so fast, making things at least half-way presentable.  It's amazing how much dander five dogs can shed in a month!  And then I got a batch of Toll House cookies going, as well.

So we now have an oversized couch in the living room, very used but more comfortable than the picnic bench that was sitting there before.  Of course, they listened to der Brucer explain that we had other events to attend...and still didn't make any move to leave.  Of course they heard der Brucer explain that we had wanted to introduce the dogs to the family one at a time, but still they came as a gallumphing herd (the family, not the dogs).  The dogs were not pleased.

They (the family) finally got a move on, and we were able to get to the first function, a fundraiser for a woman running for the local state assembly seat.  During that, we discovered some inconsistancies between what we had been told before on how county politics works in regards to one major political party (let us call that the Lucy X party) and the other major political party (let us call that the Jessie Y party).  (Those are not their real names, of course.  Anyone not getting THAT reference around here has problems.)  We had been led to believe that the overdevelopment going on in Rehoboth was the fault of the Lucy X party, but it turns out that the County Board of Commissioners are instead dominated by the Jessie Y party, and it is the CBoC that says yea or nay to the development projects.  Der Brucer and I are going to have a lot of fun with the political scene around here, I can tell you!

Anyways, having met some interesting people at the reception, we were on our way to the dinner when the cell phone starts ringing.  It's der Brucer's daughter.  They had forgotten to pick up the fiber-optic snowman they had asked us to buy for them, and had already driven back and were almost at our house.  Would we mind if they just popped in and got it?  As a matter of fact, we WOULD mind, thank-you, as would the dogs!  Besides, the fiber-optic snowman was in the trunk of our car.  Well, could we meet them somewhere?  As another matter of fact, we're already late for the dinner, what is so important about a fenorkin' fiber-optic snowman!!!?

We finally told them where the car would be parked, and left the fenorkin' fiber-optic snowman on the back seat with the car unlocked.  We also made a point of not leaving the dinner until we absolutely had to, almost overstaying our welcome, just to make sure we had avoided another meeting with der Brucer's daughter.

There are times contact with family should be limited to very tiny doses.  This is especially true when the family doesn't understand what the phrase "very tiny doses" means.

On top of which, they took with them half the batch of cookies that I had baked.  I really need to make more cookies.  It's good therapy.

*sigh*

Okay, now for the waltz story.  I was invited by friends of the family to a dance for MGM employees.  I had recently met Bruce, so I was fifteen, almost sixteen years old(?) and asked Bruce to take me.  I can’t remember where the dance was but believe Bruce does.  When the band took a break the crowded dance floor cleared out.  From somewhere music began to play again, but the dance floor stayed empty waiting for the band to begin again.  Bruce decided we should dance.  I was absolutely embarrassed to be the only ones out there.  My embarrassment quickly passed as he twirled me around the entire dance floor.  I suppose that was the closest I ever came to feeling as if I were dancing with Gene Kelly.

Good vibes to Jason for opening night tomorrow and for the rest of the week!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sarah, I'm sorry to hear that the lady at the audition was rude to you. You'll get to enjoy Mamma Mia now, though, plus you have audition experience. Btw, on the topic of SNL (this probably will only make sense to Sarah :))...I went to SNL once or twice last year. I too have a friend who wanted to go but was too nervous to go by herself. Anyway, Ryan (not Sco) invited me, along with my friend's future boyfriend (now ex). I felt really awkward, but I didn't participate in their service, and no one pressured me to do so. (I'm Catholic and very comfortable with my faith.) Later that night, during the actual SNL (the fun and games part for teens :)), my friend, Ryan, Jeremy (the ex), a few other people, and I had a lot of fun just sitting around and singing. (I love singing, and I actually got to "perform," which is something else I enjoy lol.) Anyway, my friend (another Laura) really enjoyed the night and wanted to return the next week, so when she asked, I said I'd go with her because she's pretty shy. Unfortunately, SNL that week was not a blast. As soon as we got there, everyone was leaving to go to a meeting at someone's house. Jeremy had Laura and me come along. You know whose house we went to? Drew's. That's right...my ex-crush who had indirectly caused me to lose a friendship with a girl who was a very close friend. I was completely mortified for the entire night, especially as he and his then-girlfriend sat about 5 feet away from me the whole time. eek. He and I are still friends, though, which is good. That was my last time at SNL (in like October of 2002). I was still grateful that Ryan and Jer had invited me, as Ryan was a popular guy at school who seemed to be reforming, but something happened a few weeks later that caused me to lose a lot of respect for him...I don't want to bore people with my stories, but if anyone is interested, I'll share some more. Sorry for the rambling!

Jennifer--I hope your finger gets better! When I was in eighth grade, I was working on a French project/poster board the night before it was due (as usual). I was using a hot glue gun, and I accidentally dropped a piece of fabric with the glue on it on my forearm. I went to peel off the fabric, and some skin came with it. I still have a somewhat noticeable scar there. (Question for all DRs: Do you have any scars? How did you get them? I have one on my left knee from when I was 6 and jumped off the roof of a car.) Anyway, hope your finger gets better! I know how you feel. My hands are really chapped and cut up from the cold weather and because I wash them like 25 times a day. They hurt a lot!

While I still have a few hours to say it... Happy Birthday, Jane!  Glad to hear you've had such a wonderful day.

Chat was rather brief, but fun and lively as always.  Matinee went quite well today.  Smallish audience, but they got a good show.  And now some nights off!

Swishy Sarah we enjoy your postings and venting.   “Speaking of smiles, at the restaurant today, a man asked me if he cold have a straw. When I gave him one, he smiled the most GENUINE smile I've ever seen, and said "Thank you so much! You're the greatest!" in a completely sincere tone of voice. I was smiling for at least an hour afterwards, it was the nicest thing.”  That certainly isn’t complaining.  It is certainly a happy story.  :) :)

Oh I missed the chat!  Sad Sad Sad.....

Yes that is the picture that DRMBarnum uses at the Scarlet Street site where he is listed as part of the staff!  It is indeed a nice study.

Angels in America....part two next Sunday!

So many things in the notes - Sarah congratulations on the Valentine Show - if you want it - work breeds work, so if you are interested at all in working at the venue in the future, don't turn down a part!   That is advice from one of those "mature" people you don't understand.

No dogs at the Farmer's Market??!!!!  Abie is right to be outraged!

New info from SWW!  And on and on....

The best selection of cabaret songs I've seen recently was about a year ago at Don't Tell Mama:

You There in the Back Row
The Kid Inside
Stools
Hello Tom
Nothing Really Happened
Fifteen Pounds Away From My Love
So Many People
Watching the Show
I Can Do This
You Can Be a New Yorker Too
I Have Found

Everybody know these songs?  And who sang them?

And did anyone ever answer my query as to who wrote "Not Exactly Paris"?

I will answer these songs

You There in the Back Row -----The only person I know who sang it and recorded it was Liz Callaway

The Kid Inside and Nothing Really  has been recorded by many people. They were written by Craig Carnellia for a musical called Is There Life After High School. and he recorded The Kid Inside  in his own cabaret act.

Hello Tom. I am wondering if it not Dear Tom from I'm Getting My Act and Taking It On the Road by Nancy Ford and Gretchen Cryer

So Many People of course is by Stephen Sondheim and was written for Saturday Night. Many people have recorded it.

You Can Be a New Yorker too was written by Charles Strouse for the off-broadway musical Mayor

I am wonder if the complete title for I Have Found is I Have Found Out and then it would be from the musical Great Expectations

And Not Exactly Paris was recorded wonderfully by Nancy LaMott and was written by Rusell George and Michael leonard

Not sure about the other songs but if I had time I might look them up for you later

Actually I think it was her first cd. The last one (so far) was released after her death which was What's Good About Goodbye?

I echo DR Michael's comments about ANGELS IN AMERICA: MILLENIUM APPROACHES. It was truly as wonderful as I was hoping, and the play has held up fantasticly. I was most impressed with Patrick Wilson because, to be honest, I thought he was as bland as white bread in THE FULL MONTY, but he really is exploring his character to its depths, and I was SO impressed. It also is SO great to get to see deeply into the actors' eyes (which you can't do at a play). Adds 100% to the effect their words have on you (or me at least).

Three choir concerts in two days...and another tomorrow night.  Oy vey.  But both of the ones today went really well.  I was rather hoping that chat would still be going on when I got home, but oh well.  I'll try to catch the next one, whenever it is.

Michael-

I believe that Nancy LaMott's last CD was LISTEN TO MY HEART...Beautiful Baby was her first.

WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT GOODBYE was released after her death and the contents of said recording where made long before the making and release of Listen to My Heart.

I'm here, I'm posting, and now I'm leaving. I need sleeeeeep.

And I'm probably going to be semi-E and T tomorrow, I might not get home until late. I have school, then after school choir rehearsal, then a Banquet that I'm singing carols at, and then volunteer service for the Banquet. I don't have a clue when it ends, we shall see.

And since it's midnight here on the East Coast, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BK!

Good drive back to Richmond - and it was so nice getting back before midnight!  Actually, I was back by 10:45!  Even had time to head to the restaurant on the corner and get a burger and fries - really good burger and really good fries.

Unfortunately, just two blocks from my house there was some major car accident.  It looked like at least two cars were involved, but from the amount of glass on the roadway, it might have been more.  But the police and EMTs were doing their job, and I hope everyone involved only had their vehicles damaged.

I'm planning on watching Angels in America: Millenium Approaches tomorrow night on HBO2 - love those plex channels!  But before that...  I'm hoping to have a nice long day.  I've even made a breakfast date with a friend to catch up over coffee and knosh at Starbucks.  -Although, Starbucks doesn't really qualify as a true "knosh" place.  And then it's baking time.  -I need to do some cleaning and prep work in the kitchen before heading to bed.  Run a few errands, have a nice dinner out, then watch TV.  Sounds like a good day off, huh?

Well, I'm outta here for now... I'll check back right before turning in.

It wasn't because I didn't know the songs.  I was suggesting that everybody here should know these rather obscure songs, because they're really good.  And "who put them all in one wonderful cabaret act?" was another of my guessing games.

I Have Found is an excellent song by William Finn from that still-not-yet-produced musical comedy The Royal Family and I wrote I Can Do This.  Indeed BK was the first to record Watching the Show and You There In The Back Row.  Those two albums, by the way ("by the way" in internet lingo) are my favorite BK-produced albums.  I play them all the time.

But look at the time!  Could it be?  Yes, it could!  Hold your hats and hallelujah, get out your ham chunks and cheese, and perhaps more of those "pigs in pigs" (hot dogs wrapped in bacon), it's somebody's birthday...

 :D :D   :D :D :D  :D   :D   :D

Happy Birthday, Bruce!

Everybody sing:

You're past your prime...

You're past your peak
You'se an early antique
Look at this physique
Just hear the old bones creak!
Where there was a glow
There ain't a glow no mo'
Now the wrinkles show

Chat was fun tonight, if small.  I finally finished my American Lit paper....while I HATE doing analysis papers, I suppose I am relatively okay at them.

I saw the first hour of Angels in America but left early for chat.  My mom taped the rest, which I intend to watch tomorrow.  I can only say that based on an hour of viewing, I can see why this is considered one of the greatest plays of the twentieth century.  Incredible.

Happy early birthday to BK, even though it technically isn't his birthday on the West Coast yet!

TCB--looove the hat on the pic!  Absolutely adorable!

Ann and Jed--glad that your respective recital and show went well!

Hmmmm...if anyone is interested some Macbeth pics were posted, and I thought I would amuse you with one:
