Well, you've read the notes, the notes felt very act two-ish, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they'll be home as soon as act two is blocked.
-
And the word of the day is: LISSOME!
-
George meets PennyO (continued): The reading of the show "...in the absence of spring..." itself was interesting, and very well performed. The actors mainly just stood on the very small stage with their scripts in hand, but actually acted the parts. It's about several people who are affected by a tragedy seven years earlier and how they learn to let go so that they can move on with their lives. According to a review of the off-Broadway production in the New York Times (http://theater2.nytimes.com/mem/theater/treview.html?_r=1&res=980DE4DA173BF936A15756C0A9649C8B63&oref=slogin) (FYI, the first two paragraphs are repeated), it was inspired (my word) by "the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, which plowed right through Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988." It takes on a whole new meaning after 9/11, but was written between 1995 and 1998.
-
And needless to say (but I'm going to anyway), Penny was just wonderful in the role of "Mama." She also played another character near the end of the show who had a Julie-Andrews-kind-of-British-accent, but during the Q&A, she was able to demonstrate her Scottish accent (which she would have preferred to use) to the delight of the audience! ;D

From the Los Angeles Times:
The movie version of Mel Brooks' hit Broadway production of "The Producers" did not repeat the Tony winner's phenomenal success in theaters, although the stage show based on Brooks' 1968 comedy is still ensconced at the St. James Theater on the Great White Way.
Reviews for the movie were decidedly mixed when it was released last Christmas, and the film was a commercial disappointment as well — even though several members of the original Broadway cast repeated their stage roles, including Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Gary Beach and Roger Bart. Uma Thurman and Will Ferrell also star. Susan Stroman, the Broadway show's choreographer and director, oversaw the movie version.
The extras on the DVD, however, are a kick — especially the funny gag reel with Lane and Broderick, several deleted scenes, including a big production number, "The King of Old Broadway," and a "making of" featurette. The only downside is the commentary from Stroman, who comes across more as a peppy cheerleader than a director.
Emphasis mine. And it could explain in one phrase why the film flopped.

Good morning, all! I'm hardly awake and a bit down today. My sister-in-law sent me the results of my dad's PET-scan, and it seems there's more cancer in his body than I had anticipated; no, I am not happy today.
On the positive side:
1. DR George, great photos! I'm so happy you were our eyes and ears for DR PennyO's reading.
2. DR Cillaliz, I hope your break will be refreshing and stimulating for your body ad soul; if your peregrinations should bring you east, it would be wonderful to see you.
3. This afternoon I see my retired press agent friend who knows everybody, and I look forward to more scandalous tales of Ethel Merman and many others.
4. I have a great network of friends, many of them you wonderful DRs on the most popular site on the internet.

No nomination for Jonathan Pryce. I think there were no other possible nominees so even though it would have been nice to see him get a nod since it was a single person they probably decided not to do it this year.
-
Wedding Singer has no chance of winning Best Musical (IMHO) but it filled out the category. I think the contest will be between Drowsy Chaperone and Jersey Boys. I'm glad Color Purple got some notice. While it's a problematic show it's not terrible (again IMHO) and I think La Chaze and Felicia P. Fields both deserve their nominations.
-
I think History Boys will sweep the Play contest. I'm trying to see it. Tickets are very hard to acquire. I don't remember if the Broadhurst has standing room. That will be my best bet.
-
I am my own frenzy again
-
Cynthia Nixon has a very strong chance of winning for her performance in Rabbit Hole. All the plays for Best Actress nominations have closed.
-
All Best Actor nomination plays are still running.
-
I must get back to work.
Later!

Off to work soon for my first workday with the new assistant manager of my department. He's only slightly older than my son ::)
-
Good morning!
Another gorgeous day here with cool morning temperatures and lots of sun. A walk seems imminent.
-
Sorry to read about your father, DR Elmore. I'll keep the good thought during these trying times.
-
I can't say there were too many surprises over in Tony nomination land. Most things that got praised got nominated, and though there were omissions (Maria Friedman, for example), you can't say someone untalented got her spot. I forgot that CHita's show was categorized as a musical contender, or I would have put her in the actress category for sure.
I think Tyne Daly and Cynthia Nixon both have excellent chances to win for RABBIT HOLE. They both got raves when the show opened.
Hmmm.... neither Sir Elton nor Phil Collins got nominated for their Broadway work this year. Surprise? Nope.
-
Managed to get two more hours of sleep for a total of five. I just happened to see the Tony nominating committee names - makes the whole thing sort of a joke, actually.
-
In not giving a replacement Tony the first year out, I think that's a bad idea. There WERE other nominees than Jonathan Pryce. What about Rachel York in the same show? How about the replacement for Dan Fogel in SPELLING BEE? How about some of the parade of people who go through CHICAGO every year - John O'Hurley, for example (who's now on the national tour).
Are only big stars allowed to be entered in this category?
-
I saw that ABC is moving GREY'S ANATOMY to Thursday nights in the fall. Brave move but necessary if they're serious about scoring some of those major ad bucks that are available for Thursday night. They haven't had a viable slate of shows on that night for years.
Also saw that THE O.C. was renewed for next year along with CLOSER TO HOME on CBS.
-
Good morning, and good bye! Elmo - sorry about your dad... happens to us all, and that is no comfort. I am so glad you had a nice visit with the whole family. And we are wit' you, now and always, honeyboy.
-
Best of vibes to you Elmoore and your father!
-
I don't think it's a matter of big stars. I'm not sure why they didn't do it this year especially after making such a big deal about the new category. I, honestly, don't think Dan Fogel's replacement in Spelling Bee is giving a Tony-worthy performance. He's perfectly fine, but if he was in the show when it opened, I don't know if he would have been nominated. Perhaps it has to do with re-reviewing a show. I know that Jonathan Pryce was reviewed when he went into the show but I don't think Rachel York got the same press that he received. I doubt that any of the stars going through Chicago will get nominated as years go on and Chicago stays open. Eileen Atikins could have been nominated in this category although I didn't see her in the show, I saw Cherry Jones.
Who knows.
-
Vibes to Elmore and Elmore's dad.
-
I am waiting for a phone call from the same person I waited for in vain last week. Let's hope she's a little more prompt today. In the meantime, I must prepare for lunch with Rodzinski.
-
On to more important news, at least to me and my HHW fans (and the others who don't read this here board).
My BBC Radio Interview CD arrived this morning! It's got the entire show, all 55 minutes and 9 seconds!
HOO AND RAY!!!
I don't know why it took 5 months or what happened to the other three copies Bridget sent out but the 4 time is the charm. It's here and I will make copies and send them out. Don't know when exactly but it will happen in the next month or so, since my husband won't be around for six weeks I'll have some time on my hands. I may even try to break it up into separate tracks (as George did when he recorded the 25 minute version). We shall see. But right now, I'm back on Cloud Nine!
-
I will also watch Martha make awkward conversation with whomever she has on her show today.

DR Ben, thanks mucho for posting the Tony noms. I can't seem to get too excited about the show nominations--the only thing I manage to see all year was SWEENEY TODD. But I do find all the other categories interesting--so many terrifically talented peeps.
Last night I watched 24 for the first time ever. Strangely, Jean Smart's First Lady character kept appearing in my dream.
-
Did a crazy thing and went out and jogged pre LACC, since I don't think I'll have time later. I shall now be on my way, after which I shall return.

Some good DVDs coming out this summer...August to be exact...James Stewart's THE FBI STORY and STORM WARNING starring Ronald Reagan, Ginger Rogers, and Doris Day..two of my favorite movies!
I remember as a little kid, waiting for STORM WARNING to start at noon on channel 2's Dialing For Dollars movie...I knew it had Doris and Ginger in it and was certain it would be a colorful, happy musical! Boy was I in for a surprise! LOL!
-
Speaking only as one who saw the San Francisco production and not the much-revised version now on Broadway, I still have to declare I find it surprising that Carmello would be nominated for featured actress in a musical -- in the role of Gabrielle, Lestat's mother -- but not Allison Fischer, whose Claudia -- the most haunting creature in the Rice tale -- was the most brilliant and mesmerizing thing about the production I saw.
When Fischer arrived on stage, the show became magical...and her performance was astonishing. I don't doubt Carmello made magic of her own with her material, but to deprive Fischer of a nomination when her turn in this show is so incredible....well, I think something is horribly wrong here.
-
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
-
So sorry you didn't get better news about your dad, Elmore. We'll all be keeping him in our thoughts and prayers.

This morning I went for a walk, and I saw this curved-bill thrasher nestling in the cactus nest:

I'm fixing barbecued chicken for lunch, so I need to head downstairs now to get started on it.

It is going to be a very long summer -- and not just because of the heat. The political ads for next November's elections have been playing for a month already -- and I can tell the mudslinging will begin soon.
-
Mud WILL be flung this summer!
-
And Slung.
-
Imagine Liza singing:
Sling that mud!
Come on! Come on!
Sling that mud!
-
I'd like one of those barbecued thighs, DR MattH...if you have one to spare.
And some tater salad?
Or a devilled egg?
Got any green beans?
-
All caught up. I am very sorry to hear the bad news elmore.
You, your dad and your family will continue in my daily prayers and the prayers of my congregation each week.

A sad day for 1950s B-movie fans:
Both Paul Marco and Betsy Jones-Moreland have passed away
I met Paul Marco at the Ray Courts show a few years back...he seemed like a very nice guy.
I adored Betsy Jones-Moreland...in recent years she worked a lot with cat rescue groups.

I am eating a banana and thinking about Benjamin Kritzer. I hope I am eating it more quietly that his older brother did!

Has the ABC line-up come out yet? I know they cancelled HOPE AND FAITH.
I'm happy about CLOSE TO HOME and THE OC.
I'm not even sure if there is anything i watch on ABC other than LOST, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES and BOSTON LEGAL (btw, the 2 hour season finale is tonight).
Oh re: NBC, did they not announce whatever show REGIS PHILBIN is doing? I didn't notice that on their schedule yesterday. I know it will be on this summer, and then preceed the APPRENTICE on Sunday nights in January.

DR Ginny, re: your gala last night, what a nice tribute to your DH Richard. You must have been very proud!

Dan (the Man) I never caught my skirt in the chain of a bike, but then my skirts were much shorter than how the ladies wore them way back when.... ;D
I did catch my foot in the spoke of one while riding on the back of my sister's bike. The entire neighborhood heard my reaction to that event.
-
George, nice photos & detail on the play/reading-thanks. :D
And I agree-DARN!
-
And "Invasion" is cancelled...darn, too. :P

Off to work!
-
Ben I’m looking forward to the CD. :D :D :D

I posted these earlier (hence the few comments about "gators" that don't make sense without the reference). I acted hastily. Someone who saw my photos online told me the photos I had were not from SC, but from Florida and he showed me an item identifying the location as Lake George in Ocala. I then went to Snopes and discovered a number of folks have used these photos alleging them to be from Florida or Louisiana (Lake Moore near Shreveport). In point of FACT, according to Snopes, they ARE from South Carolina, so I give my mom her props...she sent me correct info. These photos were taken by a TV news chopper crew (the one here and following) over Lake Murray in Columbia SC...and that's a DEER in the gator's mouth. This lake is not in the marshlands...it's in central South Carolina, a coupla hundred miles from marshlands and the coast.
-
And this one from a different angle:
-
The Florida Gators seemed to have been lunching on ladies lately unfortunately... three in the past couple of weeks from what I 've read somewhere.....
-
George great pictures from last night. Isn't our PennyO a talented lady?! I loved her and her show here in NYC last year
-
Ben, please put me on the CD list! I am looking forward to having you (or at least your voice!) accompany me on my commute again
-
As the days grow warmer, I find my thoughts turning toward the South...to gentler days...days of deep shaded verandas, jalousied windows and breezes choked with the scent of honeysuckle.
Ah-h-h-h..................CHOO!
-
Anybody around these parts remember days when neighborhood kids would gang up around "the ice truck" and relish the few chunks of ice that the ice man would toss out at them?
-
Nope, just remember buying ice cream. When you had the Helm's truck on a daily basis the ice cream truck just wasn't as exciting.
-
Sorry to hear the news about your dad, DR Elmore.
-
Good thoughts and vibes to DR elmore & his father.
The same for DR Danise, her Mother and to Bear.
-
It seems to be my lucky day where discs are concerned. After I ate some lunch (egg salad on a role with a banana and water) I went over to Academy. I usually only look at the CDs and usually only the cast recordings and film soundtracks. Today, though, I wandered over to the used DVD section. There, in the boxed set area, was a boxed set of Volumes 3 and 4 of DANGERMOUSE for only $15. I couldn't pass it up. I now have approximately 5 hours and 22 minutes of DangerMouse to watch. Hoo and Ray again. Perhaps I should play the lottery today. I hope at some point I can find Volumes 1 and 2 for DM and Penfold.
-
Dan (the Man) I never caught my skirt in the chain of a bike,
I did. When I was working at the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake. We're talking the Ice Age -- 1975. I was a hippie chick actress back then and always wore long skirts. So, I was on my way to a rehearsal or a performance (can't recall which) -- riding down the middle of the main drag -- the town filled with theater tourists -- and I got said long skirt caught in the spokes of the bike and fell over. Thwack! But that wasn't the end of it - because I couldn't get the skirt out - and therefore couldn't really get up without dragging my bike with me. It was a very embarrassing situation for a "dignified Festival artist" to be in. I think I finally ripped out the bottom of the skirt and made my way to the theater. (Where I wore a really cute diaphanous Egyptian number in Caesar and Cleopatra. Never wore that while riding my bike!)
BTW - I'm going back to see a show at the Shaw this summer - for the first time since I worked there 31 years ago. Should be fun!
-
"I Was A Hippie Chick Actress Back Then" is a good name for the short story I plan to write.
-
DR Ginny, re: your gala last night, what a nice tribute to your DH Richard. You must have been very proud!
Yes, DR Vixmom, I was quite pleased that Richard, who has been retired from the program for 3 years, was singled out for such an articulate tribute. He and Rob were pleased, as "alums" of the program, both to win doorprizes. They were given their choice of a hanging basket of flowers, a GATE T-shirt, or a Barnes & Noble gift card. Guess what they each chose?
-
Thank you all for the kindly vibes and sentiments. I appreciate it very much. I tried to call my sister-in-law this morning for an update on my father, but no one was home. I'll try again in about an hour.
DR Maria, the Shaw Festival is doing HIGH SOCIETY, which I assembled with Peggy Serra for Tams-Witmark from the Broadway materials. The MD Paul Sportelli tells me it's doing well.
I'm off to Joe Allen's around 4:30, and I'm presently writing notes on a Victor Herbert parody, "Reuben Glue," from THE LADY OF THE SLIPPER.
I'm still pondering the TOD finding all the DRs choices quite interesting.
Did you all hear that Joan Diener passed away? It was on the Cast Recording List.
Also, Peter Filichia gave wonderful reviews to the new Eilkeen Heckart book and the great William and Jean Eckart book.
-
When you were a kid, did any of you ever consider yourselves lucky to find yourself in possession of a large cardboard box...something that a refrigerator might come in...or something a bit smaller....but something that became a fort, a store, a hideout, or what-have-you?
If we had large pieces of cardboard, we'd use 'em to slide down hills in the summer....cardboard will slie pretty well on fresh grass!
And on the really hot days, I always found those boxes appealing as shade something to drag into area where there were trees/shrubs ...I'd just open up both ends of the box, stretch out and nap.
-
I was just about to mention Joan Diener (original Aldonza). I can't find an obit except for the New York Times. I won't post the link because you need to register to read it.
-
Yes, the Peter Filichia reviews make me want to read the books, especially the Eileen Heckart tome.
Looks like Grey Gardens will be moving to Broadway. It's going into the Walter Kerr now that Doubt has announced a closing date. I'm very glad. I will go see it again. If it had been on Broadway this season I'm sure Christine Ebersole would have been nominated as Best Actress in a Musical
-
Great news about the CD, Ben!! ;D

Joan Diener obituary from the NY Times:
By ANTHONY RAMIREZ
Joan Diener, whose lush beauty, showstopping stage presence and operatic
voice made her a favorite in musicals, especially in the original 1965 "Man
of La Mancha" as well as its revivals as late as 1992, died on Saturday in
Manhattan. She was 76.
The cause was complications from cancer, her daughter, Jennifer Marre, said.
Ms. Diener was best known for her role as Dulcinea in "La Mancha," a musical
version of "Don Quixote" by Cervantes, with music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics
by Joe Darion.
Ms. Diener, a blonde, played the brunette country wench Aldonza, who becomes
the princess Dulcinea in the fevered imaginings of Cervantes's knight
errant. (Sophia Loren played the role in the 1972 film version.)
Ms. Diener said she was grateful for the work because it was a showcase for
her vocal range and saved her from being typecast as a blonde.
In 1965, when she was 35 and starring in "La Mancha," Ms. Diener told an
interviewer that when she was first noticed as a young actress, the only
offers she received were for "the Jayne Mansfield-type part."
"And really that's so foreign to me," she said. "I don't do it well. If I'd
had to work, I'd have taken them. But since I was married and wanted a
family, I could afford to wait."
Born in Columbus, Ohio, on Feb. 24, 1930, Ms. Diener attended Sarah Lawrence
College in Bronxville, N.Y., where she majored in psychology and moonlighted
as a stage actress. [M: Her Broadway debut was in the revue "Small Wonder,"
in 1948.]
A Life magazine photographer noticed her in a bit part in the 1950 comedy
"Season in the Sun" and she was prominently featured in the magazine. The
publicity led to more parts and eventually to a featured role in "Kismet,"
the 1953 musical set in old Baghdad. "As an abandoned hussy, brazenly made
up and loosely clad, Joan Diener looks like a fine case of grand arson,"
Brook Atkinson wrote in The New York Times.
But the production was troubled; Ms. Diener left a London production in 1955
under disputed circumstances. In 1965, after a 12-year absence on Broadway,
she opened in "Man of La Mancha," directed by her husband, Albert Marre, who
had also directed "Kismet."
"La Mancha" began at the ANTA Washington Square Theater and then moved to
Broadway. "Joan Diener's performance is a puzzle," John S. Wilson wrote in
The Times in his review of the original cast recording. "She has plenty of
voice when she chooses to open up in operatic style. Most of the time,
however, she uses a rather flat, colorless manner of singing. "
Still, Ms. Diener remained a favorite of audiences and producers, starring
in "La Mancha" revivals in Los Angeles and New York. In the last weeks of a
1992 Broadway production, she succeeded Sheena Easton, the pop singer, who
had left the show.
[M: Diener also starred in the short-lived "Cry for Us All" in 1970 and the
ill-fated "Home, Sweet Homer" in 1976.]
In addition to Ms. Marre and three grandsons, all of Brooklyn, Ms. Diener is
survived by her husband and a son, Adam Marre, both of Manhattan.

Vibes for DR ELMORE and family.
-
I think DR DtM mentioned the Doris Day Special coming up on PBS....I will check my local listing, I have pre ordered it.
DR VIXMOM - NY Leos should be ready to hold ground and greet interlopers with determination.
-
DRMBARNUM - Betsy Jones-Moreland does a great interview & commentary on the Roger Corman Puerto Rico Trilogy DVD that came out earlier this year.

When I was little my dad worked at an Aluminum plant and one day brought home a HUGE box (about the size of 6 refrigerator boxes) which had housed some peice of equiptment for the factory. He put it in the basement and turned it into a playhouse for me complete with a dutch door, windows with shuuters and a toy wall phone. I had hours of fun in that box.... I wonder what ever happened to it?

Off to Austria.....

Sending vibes to Larry and his Dad.

Did someone mention that HISTORY BOYS was a very hard-to-get ticket? I assume the best seats ARE very hard to get, but for the moment broadwaybox.com has a few discount codes that seem to bring up some fairly decent seats (although in the mezzanine) when I tried the codes out a little while ago.
-
The Florida Gators seemed to have been lunching on ladies lately unfortunately... three in the past couple of weeks from what I 've read somewhere.....
"Here's to the ladies who're lunch, don't they all cause gas..."
-
Yes, FJL, I had mentioned that. I had heard through the grapevine that it's very difficult to get tickets. I shall try this weekend and see what happens. Thanks for the tip.
-
Back from a good rehearsal - I really flew today and we got everything but about twenty pages of act two blocked and ten of those twenty pages that are left all take place in one location with the entire cast onstage and with no music, so that should go very fast. Again, I'm not spending the kind of time I'd like to on things, but it's at least serviceable - now if I could only get my pianist to show up on time, spend some time learning the damn stuff, and get him to some rehearsals before the show date.
-
Most excellent vibes to elmore and dad.
-
I am at work...bored...I have a ton of work to do, but just don't feel like doing ANY of it.
-
I just learned today that the original Elektra "Baroque Beatles Book" arranged by Joshua Rifkin is being released on CD! Excellent news.
-
Yes, I read about COMMANDER IN CHIEF last night being gone along with HOPE & FAITH, INVASION, and FREDDIE. ABC had a lousy year of developing new shows this past season. Not one of their new dramas is returning (unless you consider WHAT ABOUT BRIAN a drama.) Luckily for them, they're still flying high with LOST, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, GREY'S ANATOMY, EXTREME MAKEOVER, and DANCING WITH THE STARS.
-
Wanna do my invoicing, MBarnum?? It all has to be done by tomorrow!
;)
-
Yes, I had read about Joan Diener earlier this morning. Her cast recordings are among some great listening pleasures of the last century.
-
Thanks, but no thanks DR George. The only thing I am really in the mood for is to shop on the internet but sadly I have no money.
-
Was Joan Diener in MAN OF LAMANCHA when Keith Andes starred in it?
-
Watched OLD CHRISTINE this afternoon. An amusing half hour, and we got to see a little more of NEW Christine making her a more sympathetic character.
-
I also watched SUnday's THE SOPRANOS this afternoon. Oh, some bad decisions made during the show which will have major repercussions later.
-
Put in a simple sweet gay movie that came in last week - REGARDING BILLY. A very quiet, mild little film but left me with a warm feeling and some moist eyes. Nice.
-
And I ended the afternoon watching some of GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK again. I didn't get very far into it, but will continue it when I go back downstairs.
-
I am at work...bored...I have a ton of work to do, but just don't feel like doing ANY of it.
DR MBarnum - I have the BLAH's at work today, too. And I have to stay until 8:30pm :P

And our building is so warm, you can hardly breathe. That doesn't help.
-
I love the Baroque Beatles album - what great news - and I adore Joshua Rifkin.
-
It's almost time for me to go back to LACC - can you believe it? I'll rehearse until six-fifteen and then head over to my beloved Bird's to meet up with Pogue. Oh, the dish we shall dirt. No, that's not it. Oh, the dirt we shall dish.
-
The weather cannot nmake up its mind today, either it is black as night and pouring like crazy or the sun is brilliantly shining... and it has been bouncing between the two extremes all day
It is currently shining but I am sure it will immedaitley revert to rain as soon as my key turns the car ignition
which I hope to do momentarily... LATERS!!!!!!
-
TPunk, your AIDS Walk Link worked! Do you have a goal figure?
That's great. I do have a goal of $500 which I am much closer to reaching thanks in part to some of the folks at this site!
-
And even though I am broke I did still buy a few CDs from Indiaweekly.com.
Last night after Penny's play reading, I went to Tower Records and bought four, count 'em FOUR, CDs! I got Pins and Needles (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000029BP/sr=8-1/qid=1147814002/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-7701208-5864855?%5Fencoding=UTF8) featurning Barbra Streisand, Martin Charnin's Upstairs at O'Neals'[/u] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004RD5R/qid=1147814074/sr=11-1/ref=sr_11_1/002-7701208-5864855?n=5174), and the 1961 (for both) original Broadway cast recordings of Kean[/u] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000068QV9/qid=1147814134/sr=2-2/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_2/002-7701208-5864855?s=music&v=glance&n=5174) and Sail Away[/u] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EUMK90/qid=1147814217/sr=2-2/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_2/002-7701208-5864855?s=music&v=glance&n=5174), the latter released by DRG with two bonus tracks of songs cut from the Broadway production and a whole second disc of Noël Coward himself singing songs from the show!
-
If you've never heard KEAN before, you will love it. Or at least, I did!
-
Off to do chores and then on to a VERY full night of TV.
WBBL.
P.S. Go Elliott!!!
-

I showed those same discounts to a co-counselor at GMHC and she was able to get orchestra seats for an upcoming performance so I guess it's not super sold out.
-
Many vibes for Elmore's dad.
-
I thought of KRITZERLAND today because there was a copy of the JAMES THURBER CARNIVAL LP in the thrift store bin. Worth owning?
-
E&T I was while my little play finished. It went quite well, all things considered, and I ended up having a lot of fun watching it.
It was running "in rep" with ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD, so I saw that Saturday night, and that was quite enjoyable, although I did not know it was so long, nigh 3 hours.
-
Tonight I shall take in SHINING CITY, about which I know nothing except Oliver Platt is in it, and Martha Plimpton. Or is it Oliver Plimp? I like him in any case, so we'll see how that goes.
As for the Tonys, on performance I liked that was ignored was the lead guy in RABBIT HOLE.
-
Good to see a special Tony to Sarah Jones for Bridge and Tunnel.
-
Nothing for THE BLONDE IN THE THUNDERBIRD though? Shocking!
-
Anybody around these parts remember days when neighborhood kids would gang up around "the ice truck" and relish the few chunks of ice that the ice man would toss out at them?
The Christmas day before last I was out lunching with my sister and friends - one of the other diners at the restaurant who my sister remembered as her driving instructor, said hello and then said he remembered me as one of the young kids when he was "The Ice-Man". (about 1950 I guess)
Of course most readers will have memories remember the day they first had a refrigerator in their home. NOT.
Good memories DR Ron

My workplace is a ZOO tonight!

Thank you all for your best wishes....it is all set. Tomorrow I have off to surprise my mother at the PEO meeting where she gets her award for being a member for 60 years. She doesn't know about the award or me being there, so that should be fun. Then I drive to Des Moines for our office seminar on Thursday. Friday I tie up loose ends then leave and don't have to go back to the office until July 10th!!!!!! And it's all paid leave. I feel tons better already.
Ginny, I know what you mean about a week not being enough. I haven't taken more than one week vacation probably since 1993 or even before that. I'll have to keep that in mind for future reference
-
And DR Jane, yes, I have the note.
-
I would love to stay to chat, but actually I have to go back to the office. I have many loose ends to tie up and have to take a lot of stuff with me to Des Moines for other people to cover my cases while I'm gone. I've done it for them so I have no problem letting them do it for me.
-
DR Elmore. I don't plan to take any trips during this break. But I've always wanted to see a great airfare on the weekend sales and just jump on a plane and go. With this being a busy season, I'm not optimistic about it, but if I find a really great airfare to NYC, I may just pop over for a couple days.
VIBES TO DR ELMORE AND HIS FATHER~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And doesn't it seem like the day just draaaaaags when it is like this.
And don't the days seem dank and long
When all goes right and nothing goes wrong
And isn't your life extremely flat
With nothing whatever to grumble at?

Someone with taste telling her to steer clear of Broadway, perhaps.

I have fun memories of sliding down the hills at Will Rogers State Park. The cardboard worked just fine on dirt.

We have five dogs.
Angie has found a new family, a grandmother with three grandlads of her own, ages six, four and two. Der B took her to meet the family yesterday, well really Gramma and the Two, and she took to them instantly, teaching the Two how to play fetch and having a wonderful time. He felt good enough about what he witnessed to leave her with them for a test night, and all seems to be working well.
She has even been given a new name, Dulcey, as in "sweet." Which she is, of course.
What isn't sweet is the reaction from two of the ladies in the rescue group. How dare he leave her with these people, who haven't filled out the paperwork or handed over a cheque! How dare he leave her with these people, when she hasn't had all of her shots or been fixed! (Mind, the doc we took her to see was the one who said she was too young for the operation.)
We may have trouble getting another foster, if these ladies don't get off their high horses. That der B has had a much better record over the last two years placing pups (this makes five) than they have, combined, isn't going to factor in with their misplaced idealism.
*sigh*

I just watched Judy Kuhn drown in LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT. Pity.

I did. When I was working at the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake. We're talking the Ice Age -- 1975. I was a hippie chick actress back then and always wore long skirts.
1975? Hippie chick? Lucky you didn't get the hair under your arms caught in the spokes!

DR MattH, I have some great news for you. VERONICA MARS has been renewed! Yippee.
And for those who watch apparently the WB's ONE TREE HILL will be back. But not EVERWOOD.

FYI, today is Liberace's birthday. If he were still alive, he'd be 87 years old. It's also Janet Jackson's 40th birthday. Just had to share. :)

Johnnie Wilder Jr, lead singer of the 1970s R&B/pop group HEATWAVE passed away at age 56.
HEATWAVE sang one of my all time favorite songs ALWAYS AND FOREVER....and of course they had a big hit with BOOGIE NIGHTS, as well!
Intersting to note that Johnnie was in a car accident that left him paralyzed in 1979, but continued singing with HEATWAVE even after that.

Ben, please put me on the CD list! I am looking forward to having you (or at least your voice!) accompany me on my commute again
I would be cuirous also

Watched more of GOOD NIGHT AND GOD LUCK and struck all over again with the wonderful cinemastography. I have nothing against color, but the movies lost something special when B&W was abandoned by most filmmakers.

That is great news about VERONICA MARS, but I think they got it backwards in regards to ONE TREE HILL and EVERWOOD. They're letting go something good and keeping something, well, mediocre.

IDOL tonight.
I think Elliott blew it, and not because he gave bad performances but he simply gave accomplished performances without any "showoff" moments and used songs which would be much less familiar with the general public, a problem which has plagued him for much of the season. While I could appreciate the quality, I'm not sure without a "wow" factor he's going to make it into the finals. I know *I* voted for him for two hours solid, but the one time I tried everyone's three lines each, they were ALL busy. So, everyone's voting heavily this close to the end.
Katharine had the best vocal of the night ("Over the Rainbow," but it wasn't the revelation the judges seemed to think it was. She overdid the melisma with it as well) and also the worst vocal of the night (her first song where she missed the key change and had her usual screechy high notes).
Taylor by far had the most confident air about him; I'd truly be shocked if he didn't make it to the finals.
Since Simon went on TV last night and proclaimed Taylor and Katharine as the probable and deserving finalists, it didn't surprise me that he overpraised her tonight to aid her so he could look right.
-
Congrats on your A's TPunk...
I have not heard on my yet...
-
HOUSE had an interesting episode involving an old friend. Very tense show tonight.

Time will tell Matt on AI....
-
LAW & ORDER: SVU took its plot from the headlines involving Tom Cruise's condemnation of drugs for dealing with psychiatric problems. A movie star was changed to a rock star, and the problem was bipolar disorder instead of postpartum depression, but it didn't take a genius to know where the story came from.
I found the case interesting but the trial sequence anticlimactic.
-
Time will tell Matt on AI....
I hope I'm wrong. I'd love to see Taylor and Elliott in the finals.

Wonder what the Kimmel-Pogue party is talking about? Probably US!

SOUND OF MUSIC looked about as you would expect it to at this point in rehearsal, but I think it will be OKAY.
Lots of good people, and some kids who don't even know what a musical is, let alone be IN one....and here they are!

Put up a few drab rehearsal pics....

PAGE EIGHT!!!
Fingers crossed for Elliot, I voted for him, too. But I think the E Train is going to be derailed by the Hiccup Hicks and the Kitty Litter.

Thanks everyone for the congrats!

I'm heading off to bed now.
Good night!

I've deliberately boycotted M:I III because of Cruise. On the other hand, der B and I are planning on seeing The Duh Vinci Code on Friday, just because of all the negative hooplah.
That's a story I'd like to hear or read: The Randy Vicar and the Smoking Hooplah.
-
Back from another productive afternoon rehearsal, and then a lovelier than lovely dinner - I ate way too much, although it didn't seem like it. I think my stomach has shrunk a bit. Thanks goodness I ran this morning. I had 1/2 roast chicken (great) with two sides - a very small Caesar Salad and some cole slaw. So, since that's all I ate today, not too bad, but I'm ready to barf I'm so full. Oh, yes, I left out the part about the eight onion rings. Still, I don't think it was that heavy a meal. We had much fun catching up and dishing the dirt - and let me tell you the dirt was dished in spades, baby. Now I must sit on my couch like so much fish.
-
No postings since 9:30. This truly is a revoltin' development of the WUSSBURGER kind.

I watched the 2-hour season finale to "Boston Legal." Right now, I'm watching a tape of last night's "The Apprentice." They're down to the final five, split between two teams, and neither team seem to be doing well, at all.
-
Another loooooong day. Finished rewriting a script. One more pass tomorrow and it goes in. Then I think I might have a bit of time to catch my breath.
Right now I'm too tired to get to bed.
-
I hate it when I'm watching a tape of a TV show and I forget that I'm watching a tape and I sit there waiting for the commercials to end.
