HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR BK! (A mere child next to Paul Newman - and much cuter.)

Happy BK Day!!!

How did I first discover the one and only (well, maybe not only, but the only one we give a flying what is it fish about) Bruce Kimmel?  It was through the One From Real A column at sondheim.com, which I came across probably in the fall of 1998.  I later found the Real A's unmistakable writing style at some site which I wouldn't dream of going near now, and finally had a name to go with the man.

Later discovered that I'd had a BK album or two for years and never realized it.  My first BK CD was the Merrily We Roll Along revival, which also happened to be my first Sondheim CD, which led to my Sondheim obsession, which led to my finding sondheim.com, which led to the Real A, which led to... well, we all see what a vicious cycle this could become!

May you have the happiest of birthdays, BK.

To celebrate, I'm currently listening to Lost in Boston III, one of my favorites of my BK CD's.

As I'm hearing it right now, I'm reminded just how much I love "Pink Taffeta Sample, Size 10."  One of my absolute favorite individual tracks on any BK album.  Other faves would have to include Karen Morrow doing the Ballroom tracks on Lost in Boston IV.

So what are the favorite individual tracks from BK albums of other Kimlets?

Paul Newman favourites: "Nobody's Fool", "The Sting" and "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid". My love for the music and lyrics of Mr Sondheim led me along the same route as DR Jed.
My favourite CD track produced by Mr BK is the Marin Mazzie contribution to the Stephen Schwartz album.

Good Morning and Happyest of Birthdays to you, BK!

I'm in rush--gotta catch the bus.  Back to the salt mines for me!

Will post and party and party and post when I get home tonight!

Have a happy, warm and safe day, posters and lurkers.  It's 41 degrees in the sunshine state at 6:28 AM!  I'm moving someplace warm--like Florida next year!

It is 3:30 am...the paper is almost done, wow am I tired.  Only three more days of this...just keep having to remind myself.

[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]HAPPY BIRTHDAY ESTEEMED AND BELOVED BK[/move]

I was first introduced to BK and the HHW world by DR Jed, as I'm pretty sure I've said before.  I also got the wonderful opportunity to meet bk in person when I traveled down to LA last spring.  I got to see, in person, the famed casa de Bruce...and all the lovely pictures he's shown us on the site.  His DVD collection is even more staggering in person, as is the CD collection.  And don't even get me started about the size of the TV screen...
At any rate, we had the loveliest of lovely visits, and he showed me many things on his large TV screen that I still remember with amazement...

Happy Birthday BK!

(I thought everyday was YOU day! jk :) )

When did I first realise your existence?  When I chanced upon the Broadway Radio Show and Jennifer and Ron's American Idol chat last summer.  At the time I had no idea who the heck Guy Haines was or why someone named Bruce Kimmel had a daily journal on Haines' site.  I still don't fully ;)

Also, and shamefully, I don't think I have listened to any of the cds you have produced yet (although I did get to hear JEEPERS CREEPERS over the BRS and enjoyed it thoroughly).  I will get Benjamin Kritzer for Christmas.  That I promise!

Have cake, relax and may all your days be poutine-filled :D

and sign the guest book at the bruce kimmel tribute site.

As for favorite single track way too hard. Bruce has produced over 125 albums and thousands of tracks and that's not counting the cretaive consultamt, concept by and executive produced by albums.

Over the next few months I will be updating and giving the site a fresh look.

Happy Birthday BK.  Your Sour Rude Dudes are on the way.

I first became aware of you with "First Nudie Musical" which is still one of my all time favorite films.

Paul Newman?  Anything except that awful revisal of OUR TOWN last year.

A very busy day at work so I may not be able to check in as much as normal (some of you are undoubtably shouting "hurray").

Happy Day to the one and only

[size=12]BK[/size].

Well, well, well and My, my, my (3 of each). I actually read all the notes for yesterday! At this point, since I'm not at work, it's a major coup. I am also caught up on today's notes but I am about to leave for the day. I will be packing gift bags w/Broadway Cares and then I'm off to see the Gypsy of the Year Competition where the Broadway community awards the Gypsy Robe and announces how much money the various shows have raised for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Will fill you in on my return.

I found this site because I was searching for Broadway show music. I found the "other site" first and they had Donald's old shows archived. When I ran out of them, I found more right here. That was in early 2002 and I've been here ever since, trying to post at least once every day but not succeeding.

Again, Happy Happy Day to the 8th Wonder of the World on this 8th Day of this 12th month, Mr. Bruce Kimmel.

I just finished reading Saturday's posts and haven't even hit Sunday's yet (although why  I should hit them when they've done nothing to me is a mystery).

You know Bruce that we already wish you the happiest of days.

I was just telling someone about Bruce last night as he (the other person-- not Bruce)  was telling me that so many of his favorite CD's were from Varese Sarabande.  This started out because he actually knew who I was talking about when I mentioned Jason Graae and Liz Callaway.  Thank God-- another person who speaks the same language!

Happy Birthday, Bruce.

My favorite Paul Newman movies would also be "The Sting" and "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid."  Although not a great movie and not a great adaption of the book, I also liked "Exodus".

I first became aware of you when you posted as the Real A on the Sondheim site, but of course did know who you really were there.  Not until after the reveal in the last column did I know who the Real A was.  For some reason I was never aware that you were posting "on that other site" so I didn't catch up with you again until you started this site, which I have been reading since its first day of inception.

A very happy birthday to you BK! I hope that on your happiest of days that Mr. Guy Haines will treat you to dinner..it is the least he could do for all the work you put into keeping HHW going!

I would think that I first became aware of Bruce Kimmel way back in the days of old when watching Laverne and Shirley, Partridge Family, and other assorted 1970s TV programs in which BK guest starred on. Only at that time I didn't know who BK was. I was just a child after all.

Favorite Paul Newman movie...I guess I don't have one. I have probably only seen one or two of his films. It isn't that I don't like the man, but few of his films appeal to me I guess...of course that might change if I were to actually watch some of them!

I also admire Paul Newman's Spaghetti Sauces and Popcorn... it's all about the foodstuff!

[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]A Very Merry BK Birthday to You![/move]

While waiting for ANGELS IN AMERICA to come on last night, I popped in ALICE IN WONDERLAND, and enjoyed that beautiful film with its very catchy and lovely score including "A Very Merry Unbirthday to You" which the above title should be sung to the tune of.

I first saw BK's name in print during the old Bay Cities days when these wonderful Broadway cast reissues of CHICAGO and FORUM on CD were being done so beautifully, and I kind of followed his career from there picking up tidbits along the way. However, between the occurrences of that place that will go nameless and coming to HHW, there was a year or so that I lost track of bk's activities. Just stumbled on someone who knew about this site and sent me here, and I've been a happy clam ever since.

Forgot about Paul Newman stuff. THE STING tops the list (please, Universal, won't you remaster and anamorphically enhance a special edition DVD of your 1973 Best Picture Oscar winner?) I also like HUD, COOL HAND LUKE, and THE VERDICT very much. And I've come to admire BUFFALO BILL AND THE INDIANS over the last few years, too.

There are WICKED tickets available in this section for the matinee on the 31st for $40 USD+$6 USD service charge (or $59 CDN) which am severely tempted to take...

The only problem is that I have the Gershwin is HUGE.  Will the actors become specks from such a distance? :(

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR BK!!!

May all your wishes be fulfilled.

My first brush with anything Kimmel was The First Nudie Musical, but, of course, I didn’t realize his contribution at the time.  My second brush with all-things Kimmel was when friends started talking about Lost in Boston CDs.  But it wasn’t until I stumbled upon this site that I began to appreciate the wit and wisdom of the man himself.

Favorite Paul Newman film:  That is an easy one for me -- Cat On a Hot Tin Roof.  Newman and Taylor are fantastic in the film.  And even as a young kid, the implied homosexuality of Brick was fascinating to me, especially when played by a superstar such as Paul Newman.

Yes, I have sat in the rear mezzanine of the Gershwin and Yes, the theater is huge.  Do you have opera glasses or binoculars?  Either would certainly help.  It is certainly not as bad as seeing a concert in a large arena, but, of course, you usually get a big screen TV for a concert.

The Gershwin is large by Broadway standards, but it is much smaller than many "road" theatres.  In fact I find that the sound is better in the middle or back of the Gershwin.  When I saw ON THE TOWN there I was in the 5th row and was overpowered by the sound, whereas further back I have never had problems.  If you will be here over the Christmas/NY holidays get whatever you can NOW because that is the one time of the year almost every show will sell out and there will be very few discount tickets available for any show.

DR RonP wrote this yesterday about Trading Spaces
(I wanted to reply yesterday, but I was having computer troubles):
Quote
What can be said about Hildy?

She's a crap designer!

She has a huge ego and no concern for her clients.

If it were my room that had been covered in feathers, they would NOT have been able to use what I would have said...and the preview of the corrugated cardboard wall treatment was beyond repugnant.

I hate her.  And her crappy answer when Page asked her if "she" would want feathers on her wall: "Well, my house is ALL WHITE!"  She "experiments" on these shows with all these little ideas that pop into her head.  Believe me, the synapses are not firing good ideas!

It figures.  Pretentious (w)itch!

It's going to cost those homeowners about $5,000 to undo the damage Hildy did for $992.13.

I LOVE Hildy!!!!  I think she's great.

I also found it weird that she said her house is all white. I remember Frank said the same thing. How bizarre.

I actually liked the feather room. Although I would have liked it better without the feathered walls. The bed and fabrics were amazing.

My biggest problem if a designer wants to try something new is that they try to do things that can be easily undone. I would have rather she put the feathers on large boards, vs directly on the walls.

Although I hate it when I hear people who completely redo their rooms afterwards. Why bother going on the show?

I think Hildy often does amazing stuff. Yes she does do outrageous rooms. And I agree, sometimes she goes overboard. She should always try to do something the people will like. And who knows what will happen with the cardboard next week. Looks very strange!

Now where are Doug and Vern. I miss them!!!

Hmmm...I first became aware of Bruce Kimmel after I started buying CDs from a website that dare not speak its name (this was about 2 years ago, I guess?) and noticed that they were all produced by the same guy.  I later found HHW through a banner ad on ATC, and that was it.  I was hooked.

I love all of the BK albums that I have, and look forward to buying more, including all of the Lost in Boston and Unsung Musicals series!  It is very hard to choose a favorite track, but let's go with the Primitive Man Medley on Sally Mayes' Our Private World album.

I don't think I've seen a lot of Paul Newman movies, so I shall withhold comment on this one.  I know, I know...I'm a bad movie fan.

Ann--Never went to a camp in San Juan, though it does sound lovely, (if too darn hot)!  The only one I've ever been to was Camp Ballibay, a performing arts camp located near Camptown, PA, strangely enough!

Argh! I am SO frustrated. The local ABC affiliate decided to show the Carolina Panthers game last night instead of ALIAS, but they did schedule ALIAS for 2:05 in the morning. I dutifully set my recorder and cable box for the show in the wee small hours of the morning, and wouldn't you know the football game went into overtime, and I only got about 20 minutes of the show, one of the most important episodes of the season! I'll catch the rerun someday, and the next new episode will have a synopsis at the beginning of it, but it's SO frustrating to do everything right except plan for the unplannable.

Thanks for the offer on ALIAS. An e-mail acquaintance told me what happened last night, so I am up to date on events. I just wish I could have seen them unfold for myself. I will, either in network rerun OR on the DVD set for Season 3 when it's released (probably in September before the start of Season 4.)

Happy Birthday, MR BK!  Here's hoping you are listening to Patty Duke by starlight tonight!

Favorite Paul Newman films:

From the Terrace, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Hud

And yes Miss Patricia Neal in HUD is tops!  Brandon deWilde and Melvyn Douglas are also tops!  Terrific movie!

I first heard of MR BK through DR JMK and came to the site.  Then of course I realized that I had MANY BK-Produced Cd's and the rest is history.  NOT ancient history, but history nonetheless.

Yes I'm sure they will re-run the episode soon.

Happy B'day, BK!

I first became aware of Mr. Kimmel when his name kept appearing as producer on all these soundtrack and show tune records/CDs I owned.  The name had also stuck with me when I had seen Nudie Musical on cable eons ago.  So when I accidentally met him and was introduced to him in my favourite book store, I actually had something worthwile to say to him other than "Oh, nice to meet ya."  I don't know if he remembers that initial ships-in-the-night meeting or not.  But I figured with his taste in music and his taste in bookstores he must be a man somewhat after my own heart.   Then I saw his Kritzer novels cropping up in said favourite book store and so when he did a reading about a year ago, I dropped in and the rest as they say is history.

Fav Newman flicks: I love the Left-Handed Gun.  I also like Nobody's Fool.  And I have weakness for a couple of fifties glossies he did...From The Terrace and The Young Philadelphians.  Also like Harper and The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean.

And now, since I have been up all night, finishing my latest opus,  I must go to bed as soon as the messenger gets here to take it to my agent.  And then I ain't doing a damned bit of work (except on what I want) until after the holidays.

Have a fun B'day, BK, when I get up later, I will drink a diet coke in your honour.

HARPER is a good detective flick. Which Paul Newman films haven't folks seen?

I haven't seen HOMBRE (and I noticed TCM is showing it sometime soon) nor THE LIFE AND TIMES OF JUDGE ROY BEAN.

Doesn't anyone here like the overheated melodrama of THE LONG HOT SUMMER (the film where he met Joanne Woodward)? And I don't see too many people mentioning that zenith of cinematic art THE TOWERING INFERNO!

You'll be able to give karma once you've got twenty or twenty-five posts behind you.

I'm partial to The Outrage and Hombre, and really like The Sting and Butch Cassidy, too.  He's very charming in Rally Round the Flag, Boys.

I can understand why BUTCH CASSIDY was/is so popular, but it's never been one of my great favorites. I guess the inevitability of their end kind of puts a damper on my fun, but it is beautifully made. I never upgraded from my special edition laserdisc box. I'm sure the transfer's better, but I'm not sure I'd watch the film enough to justify getting the DVD.

Granted, MattH, The Towering Inferno may not have been an excercise in great acting, but I still find it a very entertaining film.  I thought Newman, McQueen, and Robert Wagner were all very good in the film.  I don't think the same can be said about Mr. Holden or Mr. Chamberlain.  Still, I would gladly sit through The Towering Inferno a dozen times, than have to sit through Poseidon Adventure even once.

DR TCB, I find THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE infinitely more fun to sit through than THE TOWERING INFERNO, but it too is entertaining in a trasy kind of way. (I have them both on DVD, but I find I go back to POSEIDON more often for a quick viewing.) It's EARTHQUAKE which I find excruciatingly awful in every way.

bk, I'm learning that with few exceptions, the DVDs of films beat the laserdiscs of the same release by MILES in terms of video quality. I couldn't get over the difference in clarity between the LES GIRLS and SILK STOCKINGS DVDs and their laserdisc counterparts, and I thought the lasers were fine until I saw the DVDs. Made me want to pitch my laserdisc player out the back door. (I would give up on lasers entirely if there weren't still so many laserdiscs on my collection that haven't been issued on DVD.)

Oh, I wish that were my experience.  My laser of "Les Girls" is great, as is ""Silk Stockings."

My DVD of "Les Girls" looks "soft," and the audio levels on the DVD of "Silk Stockings" are way too low.  I'm not happy with them at all.  I love the movies, though!!!

I love "The Long, Hot Summer" and "From the Terrace."  I'm also very partial to "The Young Philadelphians" and wish someone would issue it on DVD.

My first BK encounter:  I didn't know it at the time, but I did rejoice at some of the Bay Cities releases and ordered them from my FPO address when I was in Italy.

Later, I became "somewhat" acquainted with him through a post on Filmus-L.  But it was the day after Oscar night two years ago when he jumped to my defense over on the rec.music.movies board when I was being assailed for having a tongue-in-cheek opinion about the Oscar winners and their various behaviors on TV.

I visited HHW.com that very day.

DR Ron, once you get a TV that can take advantage of the anamorphic nature of those DVDs, I think you'll see a big difference. There was simply no comparison between them when I synched them up and switched back and forth between them.

DR Ron, hard for me to know if you're teasing with me or not. But I'll answer on the assumption that you're not teasing.

I have the video and audio for both machines running through my receiver, so it's just a matter of pushing the receiver button for DVD or for laser (which is Video 1 on my receiver) to switch back and forth to compare.

I will always dislike the Towering Inferno for one sequence right after RJ gets it the dwell on the next five minutes or so as Susan Flannery chokes to death as the smoke and the fire creep towards the office where she is trapped. When she finally can take the smoke anymore she smashes the window and the are rushing in catches her on fire and the she dives out the window to avoid being burned and she falls to her death. Overkill if you ask me.

At least in the TV version that part as been edited out all you see is her reaction to RJ's death. She screams "DAN!" and runs away. It then cuts to the firemen fighting the reception area blaze. You know she will die without having to spend five minutes watching it.

The only plus side for Susan Flannery is that The Golden Globe awards gave her The Best Supporting Actress award for her elongated death scene.

I did my birthday well-wishing after midnight Eastern time last night.

I probably got to know BK from RATM  (all the initials! - it's PDQ!)

That's an interesting "justification" Bill Russell has, on the current Broadway radio show, for SideShow's having two distinct musical styles.  I say, if you can't stand to be "stuck in the music of the 30's" then you probably shouldn't write a show set in the 30's.  And, if you want to write disco, write Taboo, not Tunnel of Love

I guess I've never been much of a Paul Newman fan.  The Sting, I guess, would be my favorite.

Our DVD player no longer works...

But, I managed to ship out a huge number of CD's today.  And I now know how to save on shipping.

Looking at the the Golden Globes year 1975 when Towering Inferno came out. How some of these actors and films received a nomination is beyond me. All I can guess is that money, sex and drugs must ahve been involved)

No complaints about the Drama actors and actresses.

Here are some of the oddities: Helen Hayes (Herbie Rides Again), Lucille Ball (Mame) and this one is not so bad but is really a supporting role Cloris Leachman in Young Frankenstein. The winner was Racquel Welch for the Three Musketeers!!! The only true nominee was Diahnn Carroll for Claudine who went on to receive an oscar nomination with four of the five drama nominees. (Liv Ullamn's Scenes From a Marriage was ruled ineligable)

Drama film: Earthquake!

Comedy/Musical: Herbie Rides Again, Mame

Best Actor Comedy/Musical. Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau for the Front Page and Burt Reynolds for The Longest Yard.

Best Screenplay: The Towering Inferno.  (the flame crackes. People scream)

Best Music Score: The winner was Lerner and Loewe for The Little Prince. Other nominees, Paul Williams Phantom of the Paradise and Earthquake. (John Williams cribed from his score for the Towering Inferno which was much better)

Best Song: Nominees were: Benji's Theme (I Feel Love), I Never Met a Rose (Little Prince), On and On (Claudine), Sail the Summer Wind (The Dove) We May Never Love Like This Again (The Love Theme From The Towering Inferno) which is one long ass title.

Benji was the winner, but only this song and the one from the Towering Inferno would compete for the Oscars. A different song from Little Prince would be nominated.

Ever since the Pia Zedora husband bought her the folden globe the most promising new comer award has been discontinued. But that year it was

Female: Susan Fannery (Who is primarily a daytime tv actress and has one several Emmys for Days of Our Lives and The Bold and the Beautiful. Ann Turkel  (99 44/100% Dead) and Helen Reddy (Aiport 1975) both who no longer act anymore. Valerie Harper who never really had a film career and Julie Gholson for Where the Lilies Bloom who's first and last acting credit was this film.

Male: Joseph Bottoms for the Dove. Never an actor so aptly named. Started at the top and is now.........Owns and runs an art gallery now.

Lee Strassberg was 73 years old when he received this nomiation for Godfather II, James Hampton for the Longest Yard a good character actor who never was a star. Steven Warner for The Little Prince whose one other acting credit was the Boy in The Mayor of Casterbridge. The one true nomination was Sam Waterson who has gone on to a notable career in film, theater and television.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BK!!!

(And, yes, I'm SHOUTING that!)

Well, a good day off for me so far.  Got up early, met a friend for coffee, started baking... and just finished baking about 30 minutes ago.  Caveat:  When the recipe says it's made for a 12-cup pan, and you "think" it will work in a 10-cup pan... Ah, well.. After some smoke - and some crud that got burned onto the bottom of the oven - the chocolate sour cream bundt cake turned out fine - well the "overhangs" taste good.  ;-)

Well, I need to do some cleaning up in the kitchen...

Since we seem to be on a Golden Globes tangent, of sorts, it's quite hilarious to read their awards by year.

One of the most egregiously inflammatory nominations it ever made was for "Adventures of a Young Man" as Best Drama picture, and Martin Ritt for directing it.

I mean...COME ON!  That movie is one of THE dogs of all time.

And they never heard a movie score by Dimitri Tiomkin that they didn't throw an award at?????

Of particular interest is that Frederick Loewe was bestowed a Golden Globe for best ORIGINAL music score for "Camelot" one year but the next year "Oliver! by Lionel Bart was first nominated and then DISQUALIFIED!!!  What?  Did they discover that the show had been done somewhere else before it was a movie???????

Really, folks, it's a hoot and a half to see how scurrilously phony the Golden Globes have been in their past!  "A Majority of One" -- Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Director in the comedy category????  PLEASE!

First, and most important --

A Very Happy Birthday to the birthday boy, the stellar angel, the schoene punim, the big kahunah, the prodigal producer, the all-seeing, all-knowing BK !!

If I were in L.A., we would have a very mobile dinner tonight as I drove you around:   First, a nice platter of shrimp cocktail shrimp at Musso & Frank,  next a caesar salad at the Beverly Hills Hotel,  followed by Carbonara at Dan Tana's,  and finally off to C.C. Brown's for a hot fudge sundae.  Now that is what I would call a birthday dinner!

And then, if it were in my power, I would have Leslie Parrish waiting for you back at Casa Kimmel.

We hope you have the very best of evenings.

I first became aware of the esteemed BK through the prodigious listening and buying habits of DR Kerry.  So many CDs on which I really liked the overall sound, kept being produced by this same guy (no, not Guy, guy!)

Then DR Kerry emailed and communicated several times with BK during "the big unpleasantness."  After taking a look at a few posts now and then that Kerry would forward to me, I made the mistake of posting something one day, and now try to check in quite regularly.

I grew up really loving the humor of The Marx Brothers, I loved the unexpected things that would come from W.C. Fields mouth, and I really admired the off-the-wall sense of humor that could come from Oscar Levant.   After spending several evenings having dinner and visiting with Bruce, I can find elements of all of these people manifested in BK, and yet coming out as uniquely him.

Oh DR Emily: I forget that you are a NYC theatre virgin.

No the Gershwin is not as big as Salle Wilfred Pelletier. That is a huge barn.  The balcony seats there are so far back you are practically in another time zone.

Check out the seating chart for the Gershwin. It is one of the largest theatres on Broadway. But I'm sure the capacity is not that much. I just like to be able to see really well. And you won't be able to in the very back.

But if you go in expecting Salle Wilfred Pelletier, you will be very happy.

In my experience buying tickets once in the city works much better.  I have been to NY many times. And I have always gotten better seats when I wait till my trip. The first few times I panicked and bought my seats in advance (not getting great seats). Then my dad would travel to NYC and walk up to the box office and get amazing seats.

The codes for the end of December haven't come out yet. Although i know you're going New Year's eve, so I'm not sure how busy the theatres are those few days.

I get a bunch of discounts sent to me by email. When the ones for end of dec come I will forward them to you.

In going throught the guest book I thought I tried to see who this person was. We he could be a radio dj in denver or a porn actor. I jusy checked the PDA website... Salle Wilfred Pelletier has a capacity of close to 3000 seats.

It makes the 1800 at the Gerswhin seem tiny!

It also makes me think seriously about the tickets... $4o for row H and a chance to see Norbert?  hmmm....

$40 is in the back? Do they have standing room?

To me discount promos are the way to go.

Good luck.

Btw, has anyone else gotten fraudulent email from support@ebay.com (or paypal) telling you to update your account. I always check the links, and most of the time realize without even checking them.  I cannot believe that people are scamming others this way. I always make sure to report the offense, so hopefully the people involved will get caught.  The only time I HAVE EVER gotten a real message saying my account needed adjustment was for paypal. The message said that my credit card had just expired (and it had). So i went through the real paypal account. And sure enough it was legit.

I've gotten e-mails from Paypal and Amazon.com and others, but I never go to the site through the e-mail.  I always CLOSE my e-mail (just to make sure) and then go to the site through MY Internet browser's favorites or bookmark.  90% of the time no changes need to be made.  Like you, Jennifer, one time I also had to update my credit card exiration date (expiry date in Candadianese).

How I discovered BK?  Well, I was reading BWW.com and Juliana’s Journal.  I started exploring the site and saw the Daily Notes.  I lurked for a while to see what kind of board it was and when I felt comfortable, I posted for the first time.  I think BK and I (correct me if I’m wrong here, BK) posted on the same thread over on BWW a few times as well before I posted on this board.

Good vibes to Matt!  Hope you get the part you want.

First day back at the salt mine.  And I could say that’s more true than you know.  If you could just have seen my In-box and the e-mails I have to answer!  Job security, I keep telling myself, job security.

I was told they had a very quiet week.  Funny how when I’m not there they have a quiet week. I was even stopped in the hall by the director who asked why I wasn’t at the monthly staff meeting.  It seems it was noticed by all that I wasn’t there.  Small tear.  I was missed.

Read the below at your own risk--

HAIR UPDATE:   I was told that it was also noticed.  Everyone likes it.  One even mentioned I should get the name of the gal who cut it and go back.  HA!  The best was one of the guys from another floor who stopped by.  His first words were, “Oh MY God, she had her hair cut!”  He must have realized by the glare in my eyes that he was in iimmediate danger of either being decapitated or castrated because he quickly added,”And it looks good!”

I think I'm getting used to it.   ;D

I’m taping BattleStar: Galactica tonight and tomorrow  I’ll have to wait until Saturday to see it but I can’t wait!

I meant to say yesterday that I liked Sarah Jane from the Dr. Who series.

Still have some Christmas Cards to do.  Sigh.

As far as Paul Newman movies, I like the few that I've seen, mainly:

"Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"
"Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"
"Hudsucker Proxy"

Actually, those are the only Paul Newman films I've seen!  :-\  (I went to imdb.com and looked.)  Hmm.  I'm guess I'm really slacking in the Paul-Newman-film-watching department.  ::)

TCB - did you watch your tape?

DR MG and KERRY did you watch the rest of the shows on your tape?

Favorite BK produced track.....IF I had to choose just one, it would be "New Words" on the UNSUNG BROADWAY cd.  But since I don't have to choose, I won't.

I like FROM THE TERRACE because Joanne Woodward looks so silly trying to be glamorous and Myrna Loy is very good.   And actually they met they were doing PICNIC on Broadway and Joanne was understudying Madge and Paul was playing Alan, the boy next door.

BK should be home any minute....hope Patty is waiting for you!

STILL STANDING gets this season's SUDDENLY SUSAN/CAROLINE IN THE CITY award as the worst acted and written show on TV....not the the competition wasn't fierce!!!

Patty is STILL not here which means even if she arrives tomorrow I won't be able to get her until Wednesday morning.

I will have complete meal details later this evening, by which time I hope we have scads more posts.

Did I see the offending guestbook thing?  If not, Michael Shayne please e it to me - I might be able to shed some light on who did it.

Back from the long auditions, and I did as well as I could. It;'s in someone else's hands. I truly didn't see but one other person who would have been right for Sipos, and I've worked with him before, and his singing is very erratic in pitch. However, the director may have liked his look more than mine. Time will tell. We were told offers will be made by Thursday.

I came home, sat down, and had a glass of wine and listened to Jim Brickman's Christmas album. Very soothing after a tension-filled audition. Why is it that one can perform in front of hundreds or thousands of people and not blink an eye, but the audition process gives you goosbumps and butterflies and a queasy stomach? Also, you'd think after doing this for 45 years, one would get over nerves before an audition. For some reason, I've never been able to be totally calm before one, even when I've been auditioning for friends. [sigh]

Anyway, thanks to all for the good thoughts. It's great knowing there are people out there rooting for you.

DR Jrand --    Well, you are now certifiably loony, and great !!  The dubs of the old TV shows had a very unmistakable "Eales" stamp on them.

Where else, on the entire internet, could we be treated to an episode of My Little Margie that would also have a near-naked and youn Ed Fury in a guest role.

And then Bachelor Father, with none other than La Hayes as a guest star.

Many thanks for going to al the trouble to make up that wonderful collection for us.

I agree......it is a lot easier for my schedule than for Kerry's.  His hours have gotten a little longer during the Christmas season.

I have to go play an engagement this coming weekend, but then starting next week I am here for quite a while.

Well, we at least beat the lowest day and hopefully the partay will continue.  I had dinner at a local restaurant called Mezzo Mondo.  I had carbonara, and then I had my beloved Parisienne Cake with the unnecessary but yummiliscious addition of whipped cream on the side.  It was a lovely way to spend an evening.

Der Brucer and I spent the day buying dog food.  Or, rather, that was the reason we drove up to Dover today, because we were out of kibble.  Somehow, we managed to fill the car with lots of everything else, including a new vacuum cleaner which der Brucer bought at one store, then discovered he could get a better deal at another store, so we had to go back to the first store to return the first vacuum first, because there was no room left in the car for the second vacuum.

Such a bother.

On the other hand, I've got loads more flour and sugar and butter and brown sugar and chocolate chips...

TIME FOR MORE COOKIES!!!

Whew!  This has been one long day for me.  As of now, I've been up for 18 hours!  WOW!  -And, yes, I am tired, but it was a good day.  And I'm glad I didn't sleep through my day off this time.

My day of baking was generally uneventful.  Today's "menu" was:
Cantuccini (Almond Biscotti)
Ginger Lemon Pound Cake
Chocolate Sour Cream Pound Cake

The Chocolate Sour Cream Pound Cake was the 12-cup recipe that I "thought" would work in a 10-cup pan.  Ah, well...  I was doing the dishes when I started to smell smoke.  Uh-oh!  After a few minutes of scraping some of the overflow from the bottom of the oven - aluminum foil came in very handy - the whole thing settled, and it baked up fine.  I guess I'll find out tomorrow if the smoke got into the cake at all, but the trimmings tasted great.  -I used the recipe in this month's Cook's Illustrated.

I was going to make another batch of cookies, but settled in tonight in front of the TV to watch Angels In America: Millenium Approaches.  I kind of half-watched it.  Just wasn't in the mood to be get "involved" tonight in a movie - at least something as layered and involved as AiA:MM.  But, even though I was just half-watching, I did enjoy it, and there were some truly wonderful and moving moments.  Then came Letterman, Kilborn, and now Food TV.  I just need to wash one last pan in the kitchen, and I'm heading to bed.

-Oh, but I may bake one more batch in the morning, since I don't have to head back up to DC until the afternoon.

Once again, a very Happy Birthday to our own esteemed BK.

*And I still don't know exactly what a Parisienne Cake is.  Do you have a pic of one?  And was this one served at the restaurant?  Or did you pick up one at the grocery store.

**If I knew what a Parisienne cake is, I would have baked one today.  ;)

I first came across BK via his recordings on Varese Sarabande.  I'm a big time label/notes reader, so his name has always been associated with some of my favorite cast and cabaret recordings.  I also remember seeing his name mentioned in the sadly defunct Show Music Magazine in regards to said wonderful recordings.

Net-wise, I came across BK on the "other site", and then eventually came across HHW via a banner ad on some site - probably sondheim.com.

As for favorite track/album: Liz Callaway's "You There In The Backrow" - and the rest of that album.  But that first track got me hooked!  And I also have a special affinity for "Hey There, Soldier Boy" from Unsung Irving Berlin since I accompanied Shauna Hicks on it when she did a special performance for her alma mater, American University.  -And I had to transcribe it too since Shauna did not have a chart!

Well, time for me to wrap things up.  Until tomorrow/later today...

A local school here performed "Olivia" earlier this year. They could only find girls interested in auditioning. I believe it was quite entertaining. I don't know is there was Madame Fagin and Wilhemina Sykes. So how was tonight's rehearsal TCB?

Wasn't "smite" one of the characters in a Dickens novel?
Title: Re:THE ME DAY

Change of subject away from Dickens might be in order. Smite is associated with the wonderful noun "Smut". Try smut before attempting to move on to the more advanced smite.
