Well, you've read today's notes and therefore you can discuss all that is within or without them.  To it, I say.

Good morning, Good da.. well, Good morning.

-The bed is calling me... what it's calling cannot be printed here, however.   ;)

Just finished up in the kitchen.  I thought I was all done, then remembered about the crud in the oven.  All the burned bits cleaned up easily, it was just inconvenient.

As for Robert Redford, the two that come to mind at this late/early hour are The Great Gatsby (right? that was him, wasn't it?) and The Natural - the smile, ah, that smile!

Once I get some sleep, I'll be able to post some more... but until then....

Zzzz.....

I am glad that was a late night AO post Jose.
Redford:"BC & TSK" and "The Sting". Much prefer his work in "Ordinary People", "A River Runs Through It" and my absolute favourite of his contributions to the world of film ' "The Milagro Beanfield War".

I gave another listen to the gorgeous "The Robe" 50th Anniversary Edition CD and it gets more glorious with each listen!

I watched Part I of "Battlestar Galactica" on the Sci-Fi channel and it was really well done!

Sorry about your rehearsal, TCB.

I remember sucky rehearsals.  They happen!

I also remember auditions.  I have a combination of feelings when I audition -- trepidation, doubt, and then, when I watch others audition, I start becoming competitive.   At least, I used to.

What I hated about all of it was the agony that comes when the last performance has been given and the set has been struck.  Everyone then just goes their own way.  Sigh.

I think my favorite Robert Redford performance would be in The Hot Rock. I also like his work as director in Ordinary People.

As a director:

Yes, I'm still up?!?!?!?!!?!?!!?!?!

OH, and I guess I could include Ordinary People since he directed it.  Thanks for the reminder DR TFO!  I watched it the first time in Sociology class in high school.  Got to me then, still gets to me now.

Well, I like auditions... At least playing for them.  However, I have been on the other side of the piano, and totally sympathize and empathize with actor/singers.  But you want to talk about a bundle of neuroses: Opera auditions!!

Hmmm.. I'm digging VH1's Insomniac Music Videos Theater Late Night Whatever They Call It Show... :o

And now..... one more attempt to log off and get to bed...

Good Morning all.  An early one, it is.  I liked Redford in "The Great Gatsby" and "The Sting" and "All the President's Men."  I've never been a huge fan of his, although I also thought he was good in "The Way We Were" (A flawed film witha few good moments here and there, in my humble opinion-IMHO).  "Inside Daisy Clover" is a guilty pleasure, and he has the right sort of detachment for the role.  I love Natalie Wood in that movie, but I'd have given anything if Gavin Lambert had stuck to his own book when doing the screenplay.  What a great movie the book would have been.

Hope Jane and Bruce are still having much cake and will save some for the rest of us.

DR Diane: I watched it (Average Joe). I am so disgusted by the outcome. I can't believe they edited it that way. I realize they like to make you think it's one person, when it's really the other. But don't they realize that by editing to seem like it will be the guy you want, and then by having it be the other, PEOPLE GET DISGUSTED and nobody will want to watch next season.

I loved Adam. He was no average joe to me. I mean he was cute, sweet, thoughtful, kind and nice. And he was a freakin millionaire. I loved, loved him.

The other guy was beautiful, but he wasn't that bright, had no prospects. I get that she was attracted to him. But Adam was a catch, this guy is good looking, but that's it.

And doesn't it defeat the whole purpose of the show, if she picks the pretty boy they added in at the end? :(

I enjoy Robert Redford in everything he does. He has a conviction about him that translate well, and even in something formless and messy as LEGAL EAGLES, he's just SO ingratiating that you love him.

Favorites include THE STING, THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR, INSIDE DAISY CLOVER (perfect casting). He's too old to play the college jock in the early scenes of THE WAY WE WERE, but he's just right for the rest of it and one of the most gorgeous creatures ever put on earth. And he's excellent in ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN, one of the greatest films of the 1970s, I think.

I have not seen DOWNHILL RACER or THE CHASE, but I'll catch up to them one of these days.

I think his best directed feature is QUIZ SHOW.

I like Robert Redford, but honestly have not seen many of his films...actually my two favorite performances of his are from television...his episode of TWILIGHT ZONE is very good, and he had a good role on an episode of PERRY MASON.

Goodie day at work. I am chowing down on elk saugage, crackers, and cake donuts with sprinkles, and downing it all down with hot coffee! Woohoo!

I've never been much of a Robert Redford fan.  He's always reminded me of the guys in high school (and later in life) who always assumed they deserved better treatment because they were so good looking.  I'm sure Redford himself is a very nice and decent person, and he's certainly contributed a great deal to the film industry, particularly in his support of new filmmakers, but really don't enjoy looking at him.

Let's bring back radio.  I'd love him on radio.

I could have sworn Robert Redford made two appearances on THE TWILIGHT ZONE, but quickly perusing my TWILIGHT ZONE COMPANION, I could only find the one reference where he plays Mr. Death.

Okay the other guy was beautiful. But I just didn't like his personality.

The thing is Adam wasn't average to me at all, even in looks. He was very cute. Maybe not gorgeous. But he was still good looking.  Plus he didn't just have brains and a personality, he was a millionaire :)

(although we only found out about this last night, and he's been my favorite since the first week).

I know it's only a tv show. But man, they totally manipulated the editing in a BAD WAY.

I guess I should tell this story about my Christmas decorations. If you recall, last week when we were talking about how we decorated for Christmas, I mentioned I didn't do a tree because I find it depressing to do one alone. As I've been single for the last seven years, I've had no tree. Well, on Saturday morning, two of my dearest and closest friends rang my doorbell and brought in a table top red aluminum tree and to put on the tree were WIZARD OF OZ ornaments and ruby red slipper lights. I went and got a red towel from the linen closet to use as a skirt, and now I have a totally red Christmas tree.

Aren't friends the most priceless gift a person can have? Needless to say, I was extremely touched by their thoughtfulness. They told me they had been planning this for a year.

I am glad that you ended up with a Christmas tree DR Matth! And it sounds very cool....red metal, neato!

I am not going to put up my regular Christmas tree this year as my new cat, Freddy, would very likely want to play with it and I can just see it constantly toppling over (my precious cat, Buford, never bothered with the Christmas trees)..however I did go down to Big Lots last night and purchased a little 1 foot tall tree for $1.99 which I will use this year so that there will be some sort of tree up in the house!

Belated birthday wishes to BK. My introduction was via a local radio program, Say It with Music. The host talked about BK's label - and after I played my first BK albums I spotted his name on a couple of favorites that I had grabbed from the "reduced" bucket at the hoity-toity L'Atelier Grigorian on Yorkville Ave. (A Doll's Life; The Anastasia Affaire.) And I came to HHW via Maya.

As for Robert Redford. S. Woody White did a nice job summing up my feelings. I remember liking Brubaker quite a bit, though.

DR Charles Pogue - I meant to congratulate you yesterday on sending off your mini-series, but got busy and forgot. Mea culpa. As a fellow-scribe, I know what a MONUMENTAL ACHIEVEMENT that is. Redford:  "Inside Daisy Clover" was my first exposure to hm and I was wowed!  Next came "Barefoot in the Park" and I was a Redford fan bigtime.  I also loved him in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", "The Candidate" and "Downhill Racer."

"The Way We Were" is a VERY special film, and he is an integral contributor to that specialness.

I was touched by "The Natural," even though he seemed a bit long-in-the-tooth for a 30-something ball player.

And he was totally miscast -- and is the only flaw -- in "Out of Africa," one of my favorite movies.

Last night's "Battlestar Galactica" on Sci-Fi reminded me of how great Mary McDonnell is at playing disheveled/unfortunate heroines.  She was haunting and poignant in "Dances With Wolves" as the white woman wholly absorbed into a Lakota tribe; in "Independence Day," she was quite affecting as the mortally wounded First Lady; and now, as a politician who is 40th in line to succeed the president (of Caprica), she gets sworn in on a trasnport ship after a Cylon attack wipes out most of the planetary population.

She does distress and confusion and assertiveness very well!

It's not my favorite - I don't have a particular favorite - but I don't think anyone has mentioned BAREFOOT IN THE PARK. Redford was so wonderfully befuddled in that. And if you don't like him, Mildred Natwick is worth the price of admission.

Panni:  Kindred minds think alike.  While I was writing mine, you were writing yours.

"Barefoot in the Park" is a totally wonderful film.  Redford is perfect in it.  Fonda is totally fun, and Natwick is a scream!  A perfect movie comedy, though light and airy...!

Robert Redford huh?

Glad you had a good birthday - albeit a workaholic one, Mr BK!

RR Directed:  QUIZ SHOW, although the script was a bit compressed.

RR acting:  BAREFOOT & CLOVER.  I also liked him in a movie called DOWNHILL RACER.  And of course THE STING.  I also like him with Mr John Saxon in a movie called WAR HUNT. ;D

I've got - oh yes, I've got it.  I have the flu and will be visiting the doctor in two hours.  Hopefully I will return to work tomorrow. :P

MG & KERRY, glad you enjoyed the tape, yes the episodes were chosen with care and with just those elements you mentioned in mind!  Glad you appreciated them.  It was fun to see them again as I made the tape. :P

TCB glad you watched the interview....Betty is something isn't she? :D

Good morning!  Good Yawning!

Oh wait - it is 12:15 PM as I write this.

Good afternoon!  Good not-Yawning!

Okay so the coffee has definitely hit my system.  I am once again doing the egg-nog instead of cream and sugar thing and am loving every sip.  I should market this! :)

Today I have to go meet my mother and grandmother downtown to go shopping.  Every Tuesday they go to Mass at the big Anglophone Cathedral (St. Patrick's) which is right smack dab in the middle of the shopping district.  I think I understand why my mom likes going to church so often...

JOSE - Ya got an IM, kid ;)

Topic of the Day:

Robert Redford?  Hmmm... Now there is an example of beauty NOT ageing well.  I will admit he was absolutely gorgeous until about 1990.  Then I think the California sun turned on him reaaaaaallly badly.  Wrinkle city.  I do admire him for Sundance though and his dedication to young actors and directors.

The movie that I always think of when I hear the words Robert Redford in THE GREAT GATSBY partly because he is great in the role of Gatsby, but also because my middle-aged English teacher showed it to us when we were in Sec. 5 and basically instructed us (all girls' schools come in handy) on how to swoon over him.  She was a Redford fanatic in extremus.

Toodles everyone... I'll post later. :)

Dear esteemed, seasoned, zesty, lithe, and  younger-than-Springtime  BK --

Here's a little trivia snippet that I thought you might find interesting, as far as early days of So. Calif. TV shows.  Do you remember me asking a while back about Molly Bee, and Cliffie Stone??  Well, in my mind I had gotten it all jumbled together that Molly Bee sang on the Spade Cooley Show (The Hoffman Hayride) on KTLA, and that Cliffie Stone was a musician on that show as well.  (My grandpa used to love to watch Spade Cooley).

It turns out that Cliffie Stone (a guitarist of pretty high esteem back then) had his own show called "Hometown Jamboree", and it was on that show that Molly Bee was a regular singer.  It was on from 1950 to 1958.

Spade Cooley (who played country-swing violin) had a couple of regulars also on his show, which ran from 1948 to about 1956....the announcer was Dick Lane (Leatherbritches !), and there was a regular "comic" on named Les Chatter who used the character name of "Lotta Chatter."  And do I remember right that "Lotta" was a character in drag??  I'm not sure.

Just some useless past trivia to maybe brighten your work day.   8)

OUT OF AFRICA. I agree completely. It's a beautifully made film and it never ceases to bring me to tears a couple of times while watching it (When Meryl Streep gets on her knees to beg for the dwellers on her land, I always lose it). Nevertheless, Redford is dreadfully miscast. EVerything else about the movie is so wonderful. I wonder who at the time would have been better in this part? Today I'd cast Clive Owen and be done with it, but who in 1985?

Knowing how you love the widescreen anamorphic effect, the DVD would be your better option.

At this point, I'm not at all sure you'll enjoy it one bit.  We seem to share strong likes for so many things, but then we don't share likes for other things.  Perhaps this one is one of those.

There is absolutely no question about it – The Way We Were.  I love that movie.  I have probably seen it two dozen times.  Granted, it has it’s flaws, especially the hasty wrap-up of the plot and the screwy editing job at the end that leaves you wondering what happened that finally split them up.  Still, the scene where Katie brings a very drunken Hubbell home from the bar and he has sex with her, remains one of my all-time favorite scenes ever filmed.

I have enjoyed a lot of his other films as well, such as:

Butch Cassidy
   The Sting
   Downhill Racer
   All the President’s Men

LOL, Diane!  Dorks are the best!  And some of them grow up to be confident and self-possessed, and then show up at their high school reunions and wow the hell out of all the people who used to make fun of them.  At least it always happens that way in movies.

I sooo wish I got IFC.  Bravo has just about stopped showing the kind of films I like....I mean Queer Eye is one thing, but Celebrity Poker???  It DOES look funny, but shouldn't that be on Fox more than it should on Bravo?

There is a reason I stick to my HBO!  ;)

I'm seriously considering satellite for the new year!

Really, really tired of cable, and especially our provider, ComCast.  Prices have gone up 25% in less than a year and we got nothing more for the money.

I pay nearly $40 for one step above basic cable...no premium anything (unless you think the Disney Channel is premium).

I'M DONE I'M DONE I'M DONE!!!!!!

Well, okay, technically I still have to get through finals next week, but ALL of my papers are done and turned in, and I never have to write an undergrad paper again!!!!  Last night marked the second night in a row that I went to bed at 5:30 am and woke up and 8 to get to class.  so a grand total of 5 hours of sleep in three days.  I am so very loopy at the moment, but now I have to go to a voice lesson I haven't prepared for and explain to my teacher that the fact that I cannot attend a masterclass tonight because my jazz choir is singing for the president of the college does NOT mean I'm flaking out on her...I told her about the event before she scheduled the masterclass, she just assumed I'd be able to get out of it.  She wrote me a very condescending e-mail last night saying how she was "very sorry that I didn't appreciate the value of performance opportunities."  Hello?? What does she think I'm DOING with the jazz choir, selling popcorn??

Okay, ranting done...I'll post a more sane post later

Rather than just do as requested (list my favorite Redford film), I'll buck the system and drop my favorite Redford STORY on all of you:

When I was in film school, one of my buddies came to class one day and told me how 'something very strange' had happened to him...

My friend had been sitting in his house when he noticed that some 'weird guy' was sitting in his car across the street just STARING at my friend's house.

The weird guy sat there for hours... simply STARING.

My friend started to get wigged, and began thinking about calling the police, when the weird guy got out of his car and approached my friend's front door.

Crazy as it seems, my buddy decided to answer the weird guy's knock at the door.

The weird guy seemed pretty nice, and explained to my friend that he lived in this same house as a kid... and kindly asked my friend to please check the attic for an old steamer trunk. The weird guy went on to say that he hoped it might contain his little league uniform. With that, the weird guy left a phone number and drove away.

My friend, of course, hightailed it to the attic... and, sure enough, found the trunk along with the uniform... photos... and other mementos from this guy's childhood.

You've probably figured-out that the 'weird guy' was Redford... and my buddy was a young Michael Bay (VERY pre-Armageddon). Weird world, huh?

One other twist: I told this story years later to another friend, Richard Schickel (film critic for TIME magazine), who is very close to Redford and his family. Schickel told me upon hearing this story that he had a similar experience when he visited the Redford home in Sundance: on Redford's mantle were some old tin toys.

Schickel asked why an old toy held such a prominent position. Redford explained that he visited his grandparents old home in the SF Valley (I guess Redford went thru a reflective period of visiting old homesteads??), and surprised the current (elderly) owners when he graced THEIR portal.

When he shared some old memories of playing with his toy cars in his grandparent's backyard, the old couple's eye's lit up, and they dragged him around to their garage. There, on a shelf, was a tin car covered in dust and cobwebs. Redford instantly recognized it as being one of his old toys.

And that's... the rest of the story.

Oh, Frabjous Day!  Callooh!  Callay!  I'm done, I'm  done with my frigging epic! (At least this draft).  It's wonderful to be able to sleep late, lounge, watch TV, fart around on the internet totally guilt-free, not thinking I should be writing.  I now shall celebrate a leisurely Christmas.  Today what minimal Christmas shopping I have to do...and puttering around the house.

Panni, thanks for the Congrats.  I had my post-partum depression actually a few days before I finished it.  Really, really low.  But actually the writing doesn't get me down...It's usually having to defend the writing later to all the myriad of soulless creatures that want to take a piece out of it on its way to fruition.  I always say I love my work; I hate my job.

The work is just me and the blank page.  The job is trying to staunch the blood-flow from all those "wonderful" notes you usually get from all those illiterate cretins who get to hack at it with their dull, blunt opinions.

As this was addressing studio notes (I actually have very good executives on this one so far...but it's the opinions of those who green light you have to worry about...those guys who have read it just once, usually too quickly and with not enough attention, and are going to give it the thumbs up or down.  This business is utterly back-asswards), it was something of a challenge to cut, revise, and maintain artistic integrity.  But so far I don't think there's been any major diminishment.  I'm very happy with it, we'll see what opinions come down from the mount.

The SS Ocean Queen was actually the SS President Wilson of the United States Line....NOT the SS Constitution of the American Export Line which was used on I Love Lucy - for some reason, I thought it was.

SATELLITE is a good choice....I am much happier with it than I ever was with CABLE.

DRMATTH and other DR's I love STRICTLY BALLROOM - has some problems, but most of all I love it because the actors all do their own dancing....and it is just so damned clever.

AND remember there are NO new Federation Steps....

I think that The President Wilson and the United States Line is the company that (at least in later years) just went around the Hawaiian Islands with tourist cruises.

I was on them several times, but by then the ships had gotten pretty run down and crummy.

Well, dear readers, while I don't have the dreaded flu as DR JRand seems to have (a speedy recovery wish for you, sir!), I do have a nasty little head cold.  This is evidenced by the fact that I currently bear a striking vocal resemblance to Harvey Fierstein, with perhaps a touch of Bea Arthur thrown in for good measure.  Never a good sign when I can hit an A-flat an octave below bass clef.  I've been a bit stuffed up the last couple days, but it has now moved down to my throat.  Oh well, just so long as it's outta here by my next show Friday night.

Robert Redford - All the President's Men and The Sting.  Actually haven't seen Barefoot... should probably rectify that.

They hauled out as many former Miss Americas as they could cajole into making a TV appearance some years ago (in the 90s), and Marian McKnight was still stunning!  It made me SO PROUD!  Sniff.

Yay for slacking off at work.  My boss is in England at the moment, so I get some much needed downtime.

Warning...ranting ahead...
So at the bookstore where I work, the back desk area is where I spend most of my time if I'm not at the register out front.  There is a register back here, for when things get too crowded...also faculty members sometimes like to come back here for department charges.  But since my boss is gone at the moment, the register is closed, locked, and I don't have a key to get it started.  So just now a lady came over, dumped a whole load of stuff on the counter, and looked at me expectantly.  I explained very politely that the register was closed for the day.  She glared, really GLARED at me and said "Are you sure?"  "well, yes."  "Even for department charges?  I work here, you know."  and I really felt like saying "oh, well in that case, I'll inform the register that you work here and it will of course automatically start itself up."  but I didn't, I just smiled and showed her to the front desk.  Argh!!!  The nerve of some people!

Yes DR MG - the United States Liners ended up touring the Hawaiian Islands, and Susanna Pomeroy was surely missed...shades of Benjamin Kritzer.

I think I know who won the Miss America Title in 1958 - didn't she later become Jed Clampett's daughter in law?  Meow.

Trivia question:  Why was there no Miss America 1950?

Allison Hayes was of course Miss Washington DC in 1948.

And here she is just a few years later, shortly after declaring that she wanted to play GBS' Joan Of Arc...

Top the evening, all!

Can't say anything about BattleStar until I see it on Saturday.  I did rewind a bit of the tape (I always go over by about 10 minutes when I tape something to make sure I get the ending) and it seemed there were a LOT of commercials.  I think I will be glad I taped it instead of watching it so I can FF them.

Received my shipment of Babylon 5 Season 2 & 3 today.  Yay!  Highlander Season 1 is backordered.  Thank you again, Craig for the discount code.  How often to they have them?  How do you find out about them?

I never really cared for Robert Redford so I can't say anything about his movies.

I also prefer satellite instead of cable but I like my cable modem much more than dial up.

Sorry to hear JRand is ill.  Hope you had the flu shot, just it case.  Get well soon!

Glad to hear that papers and themes are done.  Keep up the good work!

Taye Diggs as Fiyero could be very interesting.

Norbert Leo will get a chance, I suppose, to spend Christmas with family out of state.

Taye is Idina's hubby so they'll both be very happy.

It's nearly pitch black outside right now.  Major storm brewing (has been all day) but has only been spitting rain, blowing leaves off trees and it's cold.

Will probably be a torrential downpour in time for commute!

This is Norbert (Leo Butz)

He had leading roles in The Last Five Years, the tour of the Cabaret Revival, Thou Shalt Not and took over for Adam Pascal in Rent (he was a swing in the OBC and then moved up).  Wasn't there also a non-musical straight play last year he was in too?  I remember being surprised at his nomination at the most recent Drama Desk Awards.  The name escapes me.

One of the reasons I really wanted to see Wicked was because I adore him on the Last Five Years cast album.  Oh well.  :(

A frustrating day, or so der Brucer claims.  He set out to find some cheap planters, for transplanting the rosemary "trees" we bought earlier, and there were none to be had!  None at all!  Or, rather, none as cheap as he wanted (meaning, nothing under $2 each).

It seems all of the gardening departments and shops in our neck of Delaware have either closed entirely, or are dedicating themselves to selling Christmas trees and other holiday goodies.  For some reason, none are selling cheap planters.  Could it be that IT"S NOT PLANTING SEASON RIGHT NOW???

Sometimes, der Brucer can be so silly.

On the other hand, we did find a very nice angel to top our tree, all done in sparkley golden wire.  That, and he found an entire menagerie of animal ornaments.  As it stands, we're going to have more ornaments than there will be room on the tree!

Well, well, well.  Actor Christopher Sieber, who plays the good-looking gay dad on It's All Relative being interviewed in next week's TV Guide, answers the obvious question with, "Yep, I'm gay."  No hemming, no hawing, no "that question is off limits"; just a plain and simple, Yep.

Don't worry SWW - I will be enjoying myself thoroughly WICKED or no-WICKED.

The thing is I am travelling with two very downer people (i.e. Andrea and my other friend) who have not been able to get excited about ANY of the plans I have tried to made (and who haven't SUGGESTED anything either).  So hearing about the one thing I reaaaalllly wanted to see kinda disappointed me more than it would otherwise since right now I am my one person cheer squad.

These same people also are either cheap or uninterested enough to accompany me to more than one show (and I refuse to go alone) so I have to make the one I do go see amazing.

Oy.  But I am still really excited to go.  Really.   It's just the stress of being the only person of my travelling entourage who has any interest in making any serious commitments to plans or to the one thing I actually want to do  :(

JRand and Jed: feel better soon!

A little girl at the 7-9 year old kids' dress rehearsal tonight said the funniest thing to me. (The dress rehearsal was for the showcase that the kids will perform this weekend at the performing arts academy where I work.) I tried so hard not to laugh because she was so serious. First, the drama kids got into a discussion about marriage, which turned into a "Miss Laura, are you married?" When I said no, one girl turned to me and said, "You can marry my uncle! He's 27 and plays basketball and has muscles this big. (formed large circle with her hands) [I think] he's a very attractable ( :)) man, even in the nude." I almost fell over. Luckily, I regained my composure quickly and changed the subject.

Oh! I had a happy day! My aunt gave me a very nice Christmas present--a ticket to the Philly Pops Broadway concert with Sutton Foster. I also bought a ticket to Sutton's first solo concert. I have a seat at a front row table. I can't wait!

As I walked in a little while ago after doing errands, the phone was ringing. It was the bank saying that I had left my daybook there. Every phone number of anyone I know in the entire world is in that book. And the bank is now closeduntil morning! Which means that tonight I can only phone people whose numbers I know by heart. I feel cut off from the world. (Not that I had intention of calling people tonight - but the POSSIBILITY is now gone. Aaaarghhh!)

Emily - why do you refuse to go to the theater by yourself? If you want to see something and the others don't, then go see it. I actually find there's something quite cozy and secure in sitting alone in the dark as the action unfolds on stage. And during the play you wouldn't be talking to your companion anyway. As a bonus, theaters are great places for people-watching at intermission. So why miss out?

Wow - as I was writing to Emily, I suddenly lost my breath, my heart started to beat like crazy and I almost passed out. Now I really wish I had my Daybook. (I'm feeling a little better now. )

A swing is a performer that can fill any role in the ensemble at a moments notice. He or she must know everyones part including lines, songs and choreography. They don't appear in the show but I believe they stay at the theater just in cast. They are one big ass understudy

DR Emily: I don't care what DR Andrea and your other friend want to do, but you simply must go to see as many shows as you can. Going alone is easy. I've done it before a number of times. I've even done it when my sister and I wanted to see different shows.

Plus it will be much easier to get a ticket.

You love the theatre. I'm not sure how many shows you can fit in. But I think you will be disappointed if you only go to one.

Going with other people requires compromises. But I don't think you should short change yourself.

I don't think anyone answered the question "what is a swing?".  A swing is an understudy for the chorus... someone who can take over all the various roles (the "track") for a number of different chorus people.  Most shows have a couple of swings of both gender.  The first time I can recall seeing the term used was in the Playbill® for the original BYE BYE BIRDIE, but now you see them listed (with pictures and bios) for almost every Broadway musical that features a large ensemble.

Charles Schulz must be turning in his grave at the new Peanuts special.  I immediately followed it with the DVD of the original Charlie Brown Christmas to take the bad taste out of my mouth.

MBarnum: I love your new pic. Tres beau!

Panni: I certainly hope you get good response to your writing! ANd I also hope you get your notebook back! I hate losing things so important as that...my friend Renae lost her cell phone this morning. I took mine out and offered to call hers, to see if anyone would answer it, but it was on silent! Kind of a bummer.

Em: I agree with Panni. Go by yourself if you really want to go! What other shows were you wanting to see?

Re: Yesterday's notes: I don't really remember how I found BK...I *think* it was through Juliana's Journal, but it might have been earlier...I can't remember. But I emailed Bruce and he emailed me back, telling me to join the party here at HHW, and I've been here ever since. I remember being SO intimidated when I first "arrived". You were all so smart and ready to educate me!

And I also want to tell a little story that you might not have heard on the BRS. After being here for a few months, I told Laura II how wonderful this site was. For those of you that remember, this was during BK's "KISS MY ASS!" phase. Well our Wauwa thought BK was serious, and didn't want to post in case he became angry with her.

Isn't she cuuuuuuute? :) I am so getting yelled at when I call her in a few minutes.

I got my show choir dress/tights/shoes/bloomers today. The dress is very red and sparkly and flowy and sequiny. I like it :). But since I'm so frickin' tall (ERG), I have to get the straps lengthened. I look like I'm wearing a little girls dress, it's above my knees!

BTW- DR Emily: Did you pre-order Wicked from amazon.ca.  I did and have been watching my account daily (because sometimes they switch the delivery dates). Anyhow, even though it's only being released on dec 16th, they had no release date mentioned. Yet they had said "would ship in 3 to 5 weeks". Well today they changed that to "5 to 7 weeks".

I decided to email them to find out what the problem was. I clearly stated that the release date was next tuesday.

While I think the customer service people are getting more and more helpful, they continuely surprise me. They don't know how to read.  She sent back comments about how they didn't know the release date. But when they did, they would update their system and let me know. So I assume they will figure this all out shortly after next tuesday.

The other bizarre thing is that she said she would release the rest of my order (without my even asking).

I will say this though, at least they are no longer sending me form letters.

Well, I'll check back in the morning and read today's posts...

Oh, and we had an earthquake in Virginia today...  I didn't feel it, but talked to a bunch of people who did...

Hmm.. Maybe that's what did my back in - the earthquake...

Tonight I've been watching the reimagined "Battlestar Galactica."  I remember the original series, but not enough to feel that a reimagining it is a bad thing.  So far, it's pretty good (there's a half left).  It's a completely different concept of the story, but I like it, although I don't quite understand what happens to the Cylons' bodies when they "die" (that's not really a spoiler...you find out something about that early on).  If watching it a couple more times doesn't help I'll have to wait for the regular series to start...assuming that it does.  I'd read that it's not for sure that the series is actually going to happen.

DR Tom From Oz:  Anita Bryant was second runnerup to Miss America for 1959.

I was and am correct about that.

However, if the pageant for 1959 billed itself as Miss America 1958 because it was held in that year, that's a totally different thing.
