Well, you've read the notes, the notes were your oyster, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're having clams on the half shell and have no idea they've completely missed the boat, oyster-wise.

I am hoping taht when Matt has to have a new Jennifer, that they screen test her since Missy Reeves is leaving. The recast would have to be the same calibre of talent as Missy or Matt for it to work.

We get rid of Reilly but Missy is leaving also... a bittersweet victory...

A mild correction, dear DakotaCelt.  Balto was a Spielberg production, under his Amblin company, and released by Universal.

Snow Dogs was, however, a Disney film.

Ta da!  It's Monday.

I have to go to do the Children's Theatre Workshop for the YOUNGER children this morning.  And since it is a 35 mile drive, I will probably just hang around town until rehearsal this evening.

yes DR RODZINSKI....I think there is still a Sam Goody in the downtown mall, but I could be wrong, haven't been there in a few years.  MEDIA PLAY opened with fanfare about ten years ago with three locations, and closed them all promptly about two and half years later.  KARMA still has a few locations, including one in my home town, but they are small and don't have a big selection of music...

Good morning, all!   Thank you all for the vibes yesterday.  Please keep them coming.  My sister-in-law called last night to say that my dad is ignoring all the doctor's current orders on diet.  My first reaction was that he's pushing for another hospital stay, perhaps the final one.  All this bodes no good, and my brothers need some relief from their babysitting duties.

I'm trying to get my calendar in order to return to Ohio.  I can't leave this week, but I could certainly go the following, so I'm pondering dates and the financial problems invovlved.  I've had little work this month so I'm not particularly flush at the moment, but I can possibly finagle something with the ticket I've already purchased for July.  Emotionally, I'm depressed, and I'd rather stay in bed than deal with any of this.

Animal stars?  Sorry, but today I don't care.

It's an hour later than my earlier post.  10 minutes aqgo, my sister-in-law called:  my brother is on the way hospital with my Dad, who's lost seven lbs in the past two days, and I'm convinced he will not return.  I pray I'm wrong, and any future move on my part is determined by what I learn today.

I hope I have better news later.

I watched the 2 hour TREASURE HUNTERS last night and while I didn't like it as much as TAR I did think it was interesting.

The things that make TAR so good (the filming, the detours, the host ...) were all missing. But this show really requires teams to be brilliant and physically fit.

There were quite a few teams that really bugged me. First off, the Brown team (with the overweight black guy). OMG, what on earth is this team doing there? They struggled so badly both physically and intellectually.

I also think the Miss USA team will have big trouble. And the team with the pastor is driving me nuts. I like the daughter, but the parents are so competitive.

I like the Air Force team. The CIA team. And the geniuses.  And the blonde graduate girls.

The challenges were really quite hard. Not sure why the geniuses helped the hillbilly team near the end. If they wanted to help them it should have been AFTER they got the combo. I did not really care for that hillbilly team (cannot remember their name). BUt they will probably go soon, since their idea of opening a lock was to hack it open! :)

Good Morning!

...And what a morning it has been so far...

To get things started, there was the case of the missing roommate/sublettor.  She left Saturday night with a friend to go out clubbing, and she did not come home Saturday night... Nor yesterday morning... Nor yesterday afternoon... Nor last night...  So... We all started trying to track down where she is working - she's from France and is here with an intern program for the summer - Well... After finally tracking down the right office - and the right phone number - and someone who got me to slow down enough so that he could understand me...  Of course, about five minutes after I had finished that phone call, she walks through the door.

Whew!

-Now we're just hoping that everything works itself as the day goes on, and that her supervisor at her office hasn't "alarmed" too many people.

I pretty much blew off TREASURE HUNTERS after the first fifteen minutes.  Aside from the SURVIVOR-like music and the way it was edited to over-dramatize events, there was the obvious use of titillation when the camera lingered on the team of hot girls as they stripped down to their swimsuits.  I'm no prude, but don't hype that your show is an adventure/puzzler and then insert T & A shots to appeal to the LCD.

I also went to see X-MEN THE LAST STAND this weekend.  Being a comic book fanboy, I enjoyed it immensely.  What I found very amusing was at the very end, after the credits and after about 95% of the audience had left, there was a brief but shocking scene that possibly sets up the next sequel (or at least the lead-in for the Wolverine spin-off.)

We had some significant cooling in Oakland over the past day and half.  Yesterday was nice, but today may be even nicer.

The air this morning has the sort of chill on it that I relate to water taken out of the refrigerator just before it gets really "cold."

And then since it is Monday, I had to move my car...  And when I got out there, it looked like someone had broken in.  The glove compartment was open... The contents of the glove compartment were all over the front seat... My back trunk area was "open"... My "emergency box" was open, and all of it's contents were all over the back seat...  However...

Since I had nothing "good" to steal in the car, nothing was stolen.  And from what I could tell, nothing was taken from the glove compartment.  Even the spare change was untouched.  My cassette case and cassettes were still there.  My box of Kleenex.  My window scraper.  My sun shield.  ...It was all still in the car.

Best of all(?), there was no broken window, no broken glass.  It looks like they just jimmie'd the locks and went in.  -And, alas, there is the possibility that I may have left one of the locks up, but since the locks that were up were on the passenger side of the car.  And while I was cleaning things up, I heard another guy on the street saying that one of his mirrors had been taken off his car.  Again, the same thing - no broken glass, no damage.  Whoever did what they did had tools and knew what they were doing.

-Back from moving my car back... And time for a couple of addendums...

As for the roomie we thought was missing... Yes, we called her cell-phone, but we kept getting that "out of range" message, and it would not kick into voicemail.

And as for my car - At least the contents of my glove compartment are now in order.  I threw out all the napkins I had been hoarding from Starbucks, McDonald's, 7-11, etc...  I even through out some sporks I've had in there for a couple of years.  I checked all the car documents and receipts that were in there, and they were all in place too.  Again, nothing was taken.  And after talking with some of my neighbors, they're guessing that since that school is out, the "kids" are looking for something to do.  And since most of my neighbors like sitting outside on their stoops, they're going to keep a "better" eye on things and everyone's cars.  :)

Of course, Asta and Lassie were both very good.  The orangutan in Every Which Way But Loose.  Zippy the Chimp in The Court Martial of Harry Speakup on The Phil Silvers Show (one of the funnies episodes of any series ever).  Lee Marvin's horse in Cat Ballou.

So, for the first time since starting to jog again back on April 2 I decided to change the end of my route.  I ran another half-block south and then ran next to the LA River wash.  The only problem is that every block is one-half block longer there, and then the block north back to my street is almost two blocks long - I'm ready to collapse.

Ahhh...that must have been lovely.  I've toured Biltmore several times.  My goal is to visit at Christmas.

I don't know if you ever saw/visited "All Souls Episcopal" in Biltmore...it was built by Vanderbilt at the time the house was built.  Most of the fittings, including all the stained glass, was bought in Europe...all priceless.  It's still my church of record...I joined that church when I was in college.

I am also quite sleepy, despite being on my 5th cup of coffee.

I have been exchanging e-mails with DR Rodzinski on the subject of W.C Fields movies and Japanese giant monster/superhero TV shows of the 70s.

Wow, what a roller coaster ride this morning has been!  My dad has been admitted to hospital and put on IV.  The diagnosis seems to be he's dehydrated from all the nausea and other gastric reactions to the chemo.  My brother Tom called me from his hospital room and I got to speak to him.  He says he's fine, which I'm taking with a big grain of salt, but Tom says he looks better now than he has for the past two weeks.  This calmed me down quite a lot, but I have decided to make a 2-week visit to Ohio next week, during which I may be E&T more than I like.  I'm going to rebook my July flight to June 28, give my brothers and sisters-in-law a break, sit around and ponder the universe with my father, and hoepfully see a few friends.

Thank you all for the vibes and support.

Thanks, DR Ron Pulliam!  When I  think of my dad, I think of Lear's Act 5 speech to Cordelia:

We two alone will sing like birds i' the cage:
When thou dost ask me blessing, I'll kneel down,
And ask of thee forgiveness: so we'll live,
And pray, and sing, and tell old tales, and laugh
At gilded butterflies, and hear poor rogues
Talk of court news; and we'll talk with them too,
Who loses and who wins; who's in, who's out;
And take upon's the mystery of things,
As if we were God's spies: and we'll wear out,
In a wall'd prison, packs and sects of great ones,
That ebb and flow by the moon.

I have had a VALLEY OF THE DOLLS orgy this afternoon here. I've watched the movie twice. The first time just to love the movie all over again. The second time to hear the commentary between Ted Casablanca and Barbara Parkins. Some interesting information, but I was very dispppointed Ted Casablanca would come to a screening of the film to record a commentary and not have all the facts of the film at his disposal.

Then I went to the special features disc and watched Tony Scotti sing "A Man and a Woman" and Barbara Parkins do the "Sparkle, Neely, sparkle" scene from the film (she auditioned for the role of Neely, not Anne!).

I also listened to the soundtrack album on the DVD and still maintain that Eileen Wilson does a better job singing "I'll Plant My Own Tree" on the soundtrack than Margaret Whiting did in the film. (Even Ted Casablanca admitted in the commentary that he didn't think Margaret Whiting sang all that well in the film.)

I have seen the "Backstory" special when it was on AMC, but I'll watch it again this evening.

Well it's been a busy but good day here at the office.  I'm sort of laughing. This morning I was wanting to not be supervisor anymore.  Bob doesn't want it because it doesn't mean any more money, but as the day has worn on I've just done all the supervisor things out of habit and really can't imagine not doing them, so I have a feeling that nothing will change in that regard, but that's ok.

I am very happy to be back and have a feeling we'll be back to normal much sooner than I expected.  That break was just what I needed to appreciate what I have.

Been working on ballad one for PennyO's show - I don't know why this one is so damnably hard but it is.  I feel thrilled when I get a line or two - the music is done, but the lyric has one strange rhyme thing, and it takes forever to get that section so it's not belabored or bad.

The doctor said that my infection was a symptom of suture rejection by my body (that would be a lot of rejection).  He prescribed antibiotics, but no pain pills (Dolls!).
This isn't all that uncommon, particularly with subdural sutures.  I didn't get an infection after that affair with my lip, but Angie did after her little operation.  She got a little pussy and oozy, and Doc Chris, our vet, put her on antibiotics, too.

Can you wash the area yourself, the way she can?   :o   :-*

Cillaliz -- what happened with the lost kitty that found you?

Not sure.  She was back yesterday so I went to my neighbor and asked if he knew who she belonged to. He didn't know but said she'd been around for about a week.  I noticed that she didn't seem to be around at night and he said he hadn't seen her then either.  We've had tons of rain and bad weather but her coat is shiny and clean and her collar looks brand new and not dirty at all.   My guess is that someone lets her out in the morning and in at night and in the meantime she goes looking for attention.  Just a guess.  I considered just keeping her, but I don't want to be a catnapper.

I think she's too young and tame to be let out to fend for herself every day. So does my neighbor.  I'm waiting to see if she shows up again. I've fed her twice, so if she's really on her own, she'll be back

LOL, I enjoyed some of it. Mostly I needed to unwind and I did. I got bored and realized that I really wanted to go back to work.  I guess I had to consider giving up what I have to realize that it's really what I want.   (How's that for deep thoughts) ;)

He actually hung himself from a tree.  A young girl found him.  He's in intensive care, spinal injuries and he broke his larynx.  His probation officer says he's conscious and can respond by nodding. He's schizophrenic and his family isn't real close to him.  I'm going to see if I can go visit him.  It's strange, he was doing so well. This one took me a little by surprise.  Especially the way he attempted it, in a tree along a busy street.

I am trying to think of upbeat topics!

I also watched a Lifetime (television for women) made for tv movie starring Stockard Channing as a mother who has a hard time accepting her daughter is gay.  It preceded the premiere of a new movie starring Mercedes Ruehl as a crusading mother pursuing justice for her transgendered daughter who was murdered by 4 men who discovered her gender of origin.  I'm guessing that the programming is in honor of it being Pride month.  But it made me depressed.  Especially when I found out that the latter movie is based on a real life case that took place about 30 minutes away from where I grew up.  Three years ago.  When are we going to move forward?

I then was in the mood for more guilty pleasure Fox dramedy so I put in MYRA BRECKINRIDGE. I hadn't watched this lately and had never listened to Michael Sarne's commentary (I did listen to Raquel Welch's commentary on the flip side when I first got the disc).

Of course, he blames almost everyone but Mae West for the failure of the film. He has really strong dislike of Gore Vidal, Rex Reed, and Robert Fryer, and said that Raquel Welch wasn't a major enough star to carry the film which is why he bent over backwards to get Mae West for the picture. In his eyes, she "saved" the film.

He also has very screwed up ideas about gay men and their tendencies to want to be women. (?)

Stopped by the Salvation Army near work on my way to the train and there was like 100% turnover in their record bin, leaving me no choice but to buy about 14 LPs. I kinda want to stop buying records because I'm running out of storage space, but they are so fun. And there was some legitimate values today. A very early Parliament LP in great shape, an album by psychedellic band Love, still shrink-wrapped. Question Mark and the Mysterians LP on Cameo. An odd Bob Crewe production of a pianist named Bhen Lanzaroni, two Perez Prados I didn't have, assorted other oddities...
Now I am too sleepy to finish listening to the haul.

Of course, everyone else says Sarne was utterly incompetent. He had only one film under his belt at that point. I'm sure there is plenty of blame to go around for that debacle. The use of classic film clips is the most heinous element.

For any NYC-ers looking for a great drink bargain, Pazza Notte on 6th Ave and 52nd (I think) offers 2-for-1 Martinis from 5:30 on.  Well, as I found out tonight, if you get the right bartender, he will extend that special to any drink poured into a martini glass.  -If it looks like a martini, it must be a martini.   And those are some very "generous" martini glasses!

Before imbibing, I headed over to Ars Nova to catch a benefit reading of a new play by Joe DiPietro (of "Over the River..." and "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" fame (among other projects)).  All the press material I had seen for the play called the play Men.  Well, when I got to the theatre, the posters said the play was called F*cking Men.  -Replace the * with the appropriate vowel - and it's not a, e, i, o or sometimes y.

It was a another modern day adaption of Schnitzler's "La Ronde".  The play starts off with one couple, then on to another one and another one, and so on and so on...  However, one member of each coupling goes on into the next scene/coupling... and then it eventually comes full circle.  Hello, Again and Blue Room are also based on the same source material.

I enjoyed the play.  Yes, some tweaking may need to be done, but it was a reading of a work in progress.  However, what I was most impressed with was the cast assembled for the tonight's presentation (which benefited Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS as well as a Youth Outreach Program):

Logan Marshall Green (The Escort)
Chris Chalk (The Soldier)
Anthony Rapp (The Graduate Student)
Barrett Foa (The College Kid)
Robert Newman (The Married Guy)
Jerry Dixon (The Other Married Guy)
Cheyenne Jackson (The Porn Star)
Alan Cumming (The Playwright)
Peter Sarsgaard (The Actor)
Michael Cumpsty (The Mogul)

Truly a wonderful array of talent - and good looks - on that stage.  And along with the usual Joe DiPietro zingers, there were some amazingly touching moments, as well as some starkly "honest" ones.

I could easily see this play becoming a sort of Vagina Monologues for gay men.  Get ten actors together, two stools, two music stands, some basic lighting cues and you're all set.
