Well, you've read the notes, the notes were like a rollercoaster, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently watching some Ozu films and then they'll be right home.

Serendipity... Unexpected happenings... It is lovely when it happens. For me I guess it would be meeting people I never expected to meet or something that comes along in genealogy research that puts allthe pieces together....

Serendipity is nice when it comes to writing... Inspiraction can occur in the strangest of places...

It would truly be an act of serendipity if I ever met Matt Ashford, Pierce Brosnan or Liam neeson.

I still have episodes 7-10 of The Sopranos to view. I'll watch a couple of them this weekend as I ride the exercise bike. It's a good way to pass the time.

I'm having dinner on Saturday with a group of friends. We do this every Saturday before the Pride celebration on Sunday. We have dinner in a Village Restaurant called Cafe Loup, a French-influenced restaurant. We then walk around the teeming village until around Midnight and then head over to Washington Square Park and look at the Empire State Building which is bathed in purple light. They turn off the lights at midnight. We then head home bathed in our own pride  ;)

Sunday I may watch some of the Pride Parade (it's supposed to rain) and I'm also scheduled to have a late birthday dinner with a friend. He was out of town on his birthday (last Saturday) so we're getting together Sunday.

That's the report from Chelsea.

Back to AT&T!

Didn't anyone watch BILLY WILDER SPEAKS on TCM last night? This is a series of candid interviews Wilder gave with the stipulation that they couldn't be shown until after his death. Promises to be very candid.

I understand it's subtitled as he spoke in German for the interviews, but as a BIG fan of his films, I am looking forward to seeing this today at some point.

Friday morning greetings from your resident information waitress!  It's the fifth day of my work week, so I'm waitressing all day today.

Delightful story from BK about the email/phone call from long lost Jeannie.  Makes me think about people from 35-40 years ago with whom I've lost contact.

TOD:

CD - The Benjamin Britten Beggar's Opera, which DR Elmore sent me.  I tried listening in the car and decided to wait until I can give it my undivided attention and use headphones.  You see, I was his rehearsal assistant for a production of this piece back in 1979.  I also want to try to find a program from that production to fully immerse myself in nostalgia!

DVD - Get Shorty

MattH, I watched the Billy Wilder thing, the later showing, until I fell asleep. It's kind of slow-going at first. He talks on videotape, mostly in German. It gets going when it gets to some personal recollections, about Monroe, Tony Curtis, etc.  There's also a powerful story regarding how the studio wanted to make STALAG 17 palatable to German audiences. There wasn't a whole lot of overly surprising stuff, but it is interesting.

One wishes the interviewer were a little more thorough; the guy interrupts Wilder a few times, but I guess we take what we can get.

Just had a call from UPS - the guy said my package was sitting there with a note and he didn't know what to do with it.  I said, "Why don't you try delivering it, which is what they were supposed to do at six pm yesterday."  So, it will, according to him, be delivered today to my mail place.  These people.

Just playing devil's advocate...but that note may have confused the situation...he may not have understood what the writer of the note expected....either for it to be delivered or that the customer would come in and claim it.

I'm sure the note was confusing - what else is new?  The guy yesterday promised he'd get it delivered to my house - instead he wrote some note that wasn't clear, left for the day, and there it sat.  What else is new?  Will it get there today?  Who knows?

We had a boon last night...a blessing...one of the great natural wonders....

The Bay ARea has been in the grips of a heat wave this week....and yesterday was the hottest yet, inland, with temps well into the 100s.  But something WONDERFUL happened along the coast.

The "Marine Layer" (aka the fog) advanced closer to the coast and the day was blessed with some ocean breezes (for San Francisco and Oakland, at least), albeit warm breezes.

And then....suddenly last summer night...the fog crept in over the city of San Francisco...and we, here in Oakland, began getting really cool breezes.

The day is going to be another hot one, but the fog will again roll in tonight to cool us all down.

And THAT'S why I moved here....!

Ok, I gave in.....when the men came to mow my lawn this morning I stepped outside to greet them and "the cat" came running up the stairs and made a bee line straight for me wanting me to pick her up.

The little girls across the street had named "The Cat"   Bootsie.   When I was growing up there were 2 cats in our neighborhood. One was Callie and another was Bootsie - so Bootsie she'll stay. The girl next door who's about 5 or 6 said "Well, I think Bootsie is her REAL name"  How can I mess with that.

Bootsie goes to the vet in about a half hour. They'll be keeping her for the weekend. She'll get her shots, defleaed, i think she has ear mites so they'll take care of that, test her for feline leukemia - the whole shebang.
On Monday morning she'll be spayed and late Monday afternoon she'll be home to stay.

Still having some minor computer weirdnesses - AOL was being peculiar, so my guy talked me through getting it fixed - now it's fine except that all my old and sent mail has disappeared.  We're hoping that since that stuff is archived on AOL itself that it will just show up at some point today - if not, it's all saved on my external hard drive so we're protected that way.  Had some Airport wireless issues that seem to have fixed themselves now, so that's good.  I guess there will be little bugs to work out for a while.

Still little bugs going on on Ye Olde Computer.  This time, I clicked on Safari, which is supposed to bring up my Adelphia.net home page.  it didn't.  I had to go into preferences and re-input the home page address.  Very annoying.

Bootsie did well at the vet. She wanted me to hold her for awhile (there was a dog emergency so it took a little while) then she curled up and went to sleep!

Her blood tests were all good.  She has no fleas only ear mites.  So she's there for the weekend and Mon after surgery she'll come home.

She is about 7 months old and weighs 5.3 pounds. Just a little pip squeek.

DR Ginny, there is no question - she adopted me. I had very little to say about it, just to give in and say ok.

I skipped discs 3 and 4 so I could go directly to disc 5 and the special features. Not great featurettes on SUPERMAN IN COLOR and the man responsible for the show's special effects (he seems to still be alive), but nice to have them.

There was a short excerpt from the LOOK UP IN THE SKY documentary, but just a small little taste from it. Warners wants folks to shell out $$$ for it on DVD.

Today I attended the graduation and moving up ceremony at the school I used to intern at.  It was a wonderful presentation and each of the classes presented a song.  I was only able to see 2 of the 4 kids I worked with as one was hospitalized and another is in a crisis residence :(.

But it was good to pay the place a visit and catch up with my former co-workers.  I attended with a group of other former interns with whom I became close (it's amazing how close 4 girls can get when they share a tiny office).  After the ceremony we had lunch together and visited two of their apartments.  Later on I met up with Rodzinski in Union Square for a bite to eat and now we are relaxing at home.

Tomorrow I have to attend the funeral for the man that was basically my surrogate father when I was growing up.  He and his wife (and their kids) were our next door neighbors when I was a kid.  I probably spent as much time at their house as I did at my own.  He put my bike together for me one Christmas, he taught me how to water ski, he was there when I wanted to talk or when I needed to talk.  I loved him very much.

Have fixed most of the little buggy things, but I'm having trouble with Final Draft because I used someone else's disc and their info and I can't remember what any of that stuff is.  I'm not about to spend $500 to purchase it, either.

Media Check:

CD: Two vintage albums downloaded from Weirdomusic.com OOOOOOOH! NORMA by Norma Bengall (star of the Italian film PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES)

When I first assumed, being a person of culture and taste, that you were listening to Bellini's NORMA I fell on the floor.  Reading further, I realize how foolish assumptions can be.

Oh Tom!  I am very sorry for your loss. How wonderful, though, that he was there for you.  Cherish the wonderful memories and I will say a prayer for his soul.

I have a vague memory of this Loretta character. But I can't remember what her deal was. There were some characters who appeared for a bit, got a little play, and then never returned.

Like what the heck happened to Rerun, the little brother of Lucy and Linus?
Or the boy named "5"

I miss my mornings with Ben, Danise, Michael S, and Tomovoz!  As you can see from the above, the bitch found a keyboard.

All is not so hot today at Middletown General Hospital.  The insurance company wants my dad out; they know full well there are precious few premiums coming in to pay his bills, and the hospital wants to keep him if his appetite doesn't return. He ate a small bit of breakfast, no lunch, and only a few bites of supper.  I don't know if it's a lack of appetite cause by the chemo, fear of mor gastric problems, or his body closing shop for death, and we're all quite worried about him at the moment.  I was with him today from 9:30 AM to 8 PM, and he slept most of the day, except for visits from the doctors, the nurses, and a handsome physical therapist named Steve who ran him through a series of in-bed (calm down, DR TCB!) leg exercises and then walked with him down the hopsital corridor.

He wants to go to my brother's house, but if the hospital doesn't release him, he'll have to go to a nursing home.  we are not happy at the moment.

DR TCB, I am so sorry about your friend.

TV NEWS
TV Producer Aaron Spelling Dies at 83
Jun 23, 9:56 PM EST

Aaron Spelling, a onetime movie bit player who turned to television production and created a massive number of hit series, from the vintage "Charlie's Angels" and "Dynasty" to "Beverly Hills 90210" and "Melrose Place," died Friday, his publicist said. He was 83.

Spelling died at his home in Los Angeles after suffering a stroke on June 18, according to publicist Kevin Sasaki.

Spelling's other hit series included "Love Boat," "Fantasy Island," "Burke's Law," "The Mod Squad," "Starsky and Hutch," "T.J. Hooker," "Matt Houston," "Hart to Hart" and "Hotel." He kept his hand in 21st-century TV with series including "7th Heaven" and "Summerland."

He also produced more than 140 television movies. Among the most notable: "Death Sentence" (1974), Nick Nolte's first starring role; "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble" (1976), John Travolta's first dramatic role; "The Best Little Girl in the World" (1981), which starred Jennifer Jason Leigh.

During the 1970s and 1980s, Spelling provided series and movies exclusively for ABC and is credited for the network's rise to major status. Jokesters referred to it as "The Aaron Broadcasting Company."

I think he drew Rerun all the way to the end. On my Peanuts daily calendar, I'm in the midst of the running jokes of Rerun wanting Snoopy to come out and play with him, and this calendar is using strips from the later years.

The syndicated newspaper strip has now gone much farther back in time. Sally Brown has just been born in the newspaper.

Had a full evening of video. I began with BILLY WILDER SPEAKS. While it was interesting, I was a tiny bit disappointed that so many films weren't mentioned or we barely touched on. I also thought there would be a little more scandal. The stories about the dozens of takes required for Marilyn to say "It's me, Sugar" and "Where is that bourbon" have been told endlessly (the number of takes has increased over the years). That little snippet about Tony Curtis' fear of being seen in women's clothes was the only really new factoid I gleaned from the interview. Had heard the Audrey Hepburn story before.

Was James Cagney a conservative Republican? If that's true, it was a surprise.

You are right. I just spent the last hour reading a wonderful FAQ site about Peanuts on the peanuts collector club website. Rerun disappeared for awhile then reappeared, aged up a bit, and appears even in the final strips.

You have one of the Kritzer books and it's Kritzerland?  And you're reading that FIRST???

How far are you?  If not far, you should stop and get Benjamin Kritzer, the first book, which should be followed by Kritzerland, and then Kritzer Time.  They work much better when read in order, although they also work as stand alone books, I'm told.
