Title: TOO HOT TO HANDLE
Post by: bk on June 27, 2006, 12:07:06 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were too hot to handle, and now it is time for you to post until the too hot to handle cows come home.

However one that I was to in college was rather entertaining....

Especially after My friend and I had to teach her twin brother a lesson .... His punishment... Frozen underwear.....

One of the strangest parties was after having a few pints we went cow tipping.

The Topic of the Day:  The wildest party that I've ever been to (that I can mention on this here family site) was probably my 21st birthday/Disco party when I was in college (I've posted about this before...I hope you all don't mind).  My suite-mates made me buy the keg of beer (but they paid for it) and we gave out invitations and everything.  The invitations said that presents weren't required but that keychains would be preferred (I do collect keychains and I knew that since most were cheap, I'd get a lot...and I did!).  We played my ABBA and Donna Summer albums (this was 1987, so yes, they were vinyl albums!) during the whole party and everyone had a great time.  Even though I don't drink (and I particularly don't like beer), I choked down that darned beer. :P It took me all evening, but I drank it all.  And I didn't even get a buzz.  A few people were doing beer bongs (that was the first time I had ever heard of it) and FORTUNATELY no one got sick!  Just a lot of beer was spilled.  It was a great party and a good time was had by all! ;D

AND I didn't have to clean up...just return the keg. :)

And on that note (G#), I'm off to bed.  Good night, BK and DakotaCelt...and anyone else around. :)

It's been very hot around these here parts (record setting temperatures in the Pacific Northwest!)  My alarm clock has a thermometer built in it and when I went to bed last night, it said that it was 78° F!  And very muggy. :P

After enjoying all of this season's episodes of THE CLOSER so much these past few weeks, I broke down and bought the first season boxed set; it came yesterday.

So, I have some other things on tap for today, but since I am only interested in RESCUE ME and the rerun of BOSTON LEGAL (which I haven't seen) tonight, I'm going to try to begin rewatching this marvelous series at some point today.

A family site, so I can't go into details of the wildest party I ever attended. Suffice to say it was pre-AIDS, we were all in our 20s, it took place at a river party where folks were in Speedos (or less), and I'll never forget it.

Well, almost all. The storm front appears to be about 15 miles west of us here in Rehoboth Beach. We also have direct drainage into the Delaware Bay and  the Atlantic Ocean; further inland on the Delmarva peninsula, the drainage is into the Chesapeake Bay (that's where the cars were floating through the Wal Mart parking lot!)

der Brucer's post reminded me of something that happened to me in the hospital that I had forgotten all about.  In the first few hours after I was taken to my room following surgery, a hospital big shot and a couple other people who I don't really remeber came to my bedside.  Apparently, during the surgery, one of the staff members present poked themselves with one of the instruments that was being used to cut me up.  Obviously, the staff person and the hospital were worried about a possible HIV exposure.  They asked if I would consent to a HIV test (at their expense) to ease the mind of the staff person.

Well, since I was quite certain that, unless handshaking was a form of sexual contact,  my blood was untainted; I agreed.  Later, the big shot and the others returned to tell me that I was HIV negative.  I think they were surprised that I had not been more worried about the coutcome.

Hmmm...it seems we all have been to a wild party or two (or ten) that we can't completely discuss on this here board.  Untold tales of HHW'ers.

I can mention a wedding that somehow ran on to 4:00 am.  The rock band played till all hours and after they quit people ran out to their cars and brought in cassette tapes (this was during the 80s.)  Pizzas were ordered in and kegs came from somewhere and illegal substances were offered up.  The management staff of the country club never chased us out (probably because they were also partaking of the illegal substances.)  Girls danced barefooted, some guys danced bare chested.  Cars and girlfriends were misplaced.  General whatnot occurred out on the greens.  A good time was had by all.

And were you this "Goodtime" person?

I have been to any number of wild parties.  I've thrown a couple, as well.

I am not certain any of them were intended to become "wild," but various factors came into play.  I remember one party in which folks were chasing each other through the house, out of windows, over balconies, into the street, and back up the driveway and into the house.

The neighbors were not amused.  Before the cops got there, however...a miracle.  The folks doing all the running actually ran away into the dark of the night...not to be seen again until the next day at their own homes.  The cops never came to the door...just stood in front of a neighbor's house pointing out my dark, silent house and, presumably, wondering they they'd been called.

I could tell you stories that would make your hair curl...some might be overcome with giggles...and others might be shocked and dismayed.  There was this Halloween party in Indianapolis....I went as a commando.  And despite the fact that I knew many of the people there, only a couple ever recognized me.  Good thing, too.

All I can say is, each of us is the sum of the many experiences we have lived. The best we can hope for is that we learn, improve and move on.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

It is being rerun on Fridays on ABC (proper).

How many folks will catch the obvious screw-up in this publicity shot?

der Brucer's post reminded me of something that happened to me in the hospital that I had forgotten all about.

Thanks for sharing the story.  That's the first time I've heard of a hospital asking the patient to submit to an HIV test after an occupational exposure.  I suppose that saves the clinician from having to undergo post-exposure prophylaxis... Did they offer any pre or post test counseling or just roll out the test as they would any other?

TCB unbeknownst to me the Peace Corp tested Craig for HIV during his exit exam.  Since his mail comes here & I have to open it for him, I was the one who received the results of the test.  It was very strange to read his letter. Odd was my reaction before opening the letter, I hesitated while thinking I wish I didn’t have to keep opening his personal mail.  Most of the time I just rip this stuff open without thinking about it.  I suppose I should mention the test was negative. :)

They probably would have offered my counseling if I had wanted it, but once they started talking I told them that I knew I was negative so test away.  I would have more worried if I had been exposed to someone else's blood.

I've been to a lot of fun parties and hosted quite a few, but I wouldn't say any have been particularly wild or decadent.  No piles of naked flesh writhing on the floor or anything like that.

I suppose the wildest party I was ever at was the Stunt Ball in London, thrown by the British Stunt Society.  Certainly in terms of dancing and the amount of alcohol consumed and the late hour which it abated.  The Lovely Wife and I strolled out of The Grovesner House at 4 in the morning and there were still some die-hards left, partying.

A few years ago a gay friend threw his partner a thirtieth b'day party which I suspect got pretty wild...It was held in a Mexican Restaurant in West Hollywood and was beginning to get wild when TLW and I departed, the pictures I saw later seemed to confirm the wildness...guess they were just waiting for the straight guests to leave before the affair really let its hair down.

In college, my room-mate and I used to host (and he Mc'd) The Super Fantastic Original Corn-Eating Contest and Light Show With Selected Short Subjects...this was an annual Fall unofficial Theatre Arts department event (started as a bar bet with four inebriated theatre arts students wagering on what they could eat the most of) which continue long after we stopped hosting it.  The Light Show was the lightest contestant (of four) and the selected short subjects was the talent portion of the show where each contestant got up and entertained the crowd at one point.  The rest of us just gathered to watch how much corn could be consumed (I think the record was 23 cups...a female contestant, I believe), got drunk, and had a general good time.

I started off with last night's MEDIUM. Yes, I saw all the episodes during the season, but the show is so original and clever in its writing, particularly in the set-ups for each episode's story, that seeing the shows a second time is highly entertaining.

RIP, Moose!
This has been re-estimated in lately.  The first four years of a dogs life relates to seven years for a human to one year for the dog.  After the first four years, things slow down and the dog ages at a rate of four human years per dog year.

This would make Moose more like 76 in people years.

Next I put in the first disc of season 1 of THE CLOSER. Seeing the relationships Brenda has with her squad now makes watching how it all turned around even MORE entertaining the second time around.

The transfers are very sharp and colorful. However, I cannot BELIEVE that Warner Bros. issued this set letterboxed but not enhanced for widescreen TVs. I watch the show in high definition every week, so watching these now letterboxed but in standard defintion is truly irritating.

Finished the afternoon's viewing with side one of the ANASTASIA laserdisc which I never got to this weekend. I haven't seen the film since watching it in the theater all those years ago, and it's beautifully animated with a great cast of actors and singing doubles for stars like Meg Ryan who can't handle the vocal demands of their roles. Great surround sound on the laserdisc, too.

I've never updated to the DVD, but I may consider it now. Hearing some of the songs reminded me that Tara Lipinski skated to a medley of these songs the year she won her Olympic gold medal (I believe she used the music for her short program.)

My top-3 Superhero results are

Superman 65%
Robin 54%

The amazing thing is that the description of Superman is almost identical to the description of The Enthusiast.

I think you should take Rodzinski on the It's A Small World ride and then see the animatronic presidents (can you tell it has been almost 30 years since I have been there!).

Really loved my visits to both Disneyland and Disney World. Though there is naturally some repetition of content, each park has some items exclusive to its site.

My wildest party was a 1975 New Year's Eve party, and it was a great deal of fun.  That's all I will say about it.

My father continues to improve, and he came through the kidney scan quite well; he's staying in hospital to continue IVs and we hope he will be released on Thursday.

Re BUNGLA BOOT, or - as I prefer - Hill House:  it's getting a bit weirder.  Last night, the ghost knocked over my Fed Ex carton of BABES scores, which made me jump, and gave me reason to sleep with the lights on.  This morning, while I sat in the bedroom putting on on a sock, the other one disappeared while my attention focused on the foot I was dealing with.  I think the little boy wants to play.  I want the sock back.

I wasn't there, was I?  ;)

Back when DR Elmore and I were in community theater together, many of the cast parties were held in the very house where I now live with my family (someone else lived here then).  I always suspected the really wild things were taking place on the second floor.

Trust me:  they weren't.

No, DR Ginny, you were not around for the 1975 New Year's Eve party.  It might actually have been 1974 at Paul Scardino's in West Middletown.  It was a tie-in with the symphony's production of PIRATES OF PENZANCE.

I guess I have to confess to a party or two during my law school days that I can't talk about on the internet.  But switching subjects quickly, I paraphrase the words of Charlene:

Some times I've been to crying for screaming children
That might have made me complete
But I took the sweet life
And never knew I'd be bitter from the sweet
I've spent my life exploring
The subtle whoring
That cost too much to be free
Look honey, I've been to Disney World
But I've never been to me

Yes, honey, I've been to Disney World
But I've never been to meeeeeeeeeee.

Back from a perfectly perfect recording session.  Everything went more than smoothly - I wrapped the musicians early and the session early and everyone was very pleased.

Jane, Netflix won't have Late Autumn as it's not available in the US.  They should have Late Spring, though, and that remains my favorite of the Ozu films.

Must now eat.

Any Apple users?  I got the updater window, which had updates for iTunes, iDVD and iPhoto.  iTunes updated fine as did iDVD, but iPhoto's update effectively nuked all my photos - it's got nothing in it.  Is there a way to revert?  I'm okay, as they're all saved on my backup drive so I can get them back, but it's annoying.

The Sportsmen's Lodge is where Miss Allison Hayes had dinner dates with Mr Sy Devore, Mr Robert Gordon, and Mr Jack Pomeroy on different nights in the summer of 1959....as reported in Mike Connolly's Hollywood column.

She and Joanne Rio (Liberace's fiance) show up wearing the same style dress at Mocambo and sparks fly.  ;D
