Sorry accidently hit the post button.

My favorite episode was the episode where the murderer got away with it.

The episode guest starred Sam Jaffee, (the victim), Janet Leigh (the killer) and John Payne (arrested for the murder).

Janet Leigh was an actress trying to make a comeback and her husband (Jaffe) was trying to put they kybosh on it. Unknown to Leigh but to Payne, but she was dying of a brain tumor.

Leigh didn't remember the murder or even doing it. (The Brain Tumor) Payne who was in love with Leigh admits to it so she can be happy with the time she has left. Columbo agrees to the deception and Payne says he will recant when she dies.

It was fun to see film clips from Leigh's musical Walking My Baby Back Home. It was also strange to see Payne not looking anything like the way he did when he was younger. My mother told me he was in car accident and his face was reconstructed.

Well Spencer & Bailey whose offices were at 77 Sunset Strip were pretty nifty....and they were joined by Gerald Kookson a bit later.

And the boys at Surfside Six were mighty fine, too.

Paul Drake was Mr Perry Mason's right hand man ALWAYS coming in the with clue just in time.

I can't choose a favorite, at the moment....but very close would be THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO, a Quinn Martin production with Mr Karl Malden and Mr Michael Douglad.

Thursday morning greetings!  Lovely photos of BK, TPunk, Rodzinski, Jeanne, and Dino.

TOD - I have fond memories of watching Gene Barry's Burke's Law with my dad back in the early 1960's.  Later in the '60's, one of my college roommates, her boyfriend, and I watched Mannix after attending Michigan football games.  Nowadays, it's Mark Harmon and crew in NCIS.

I have spent the last hour perusing this year's Emmy nominations. Among the happiest surprises:

Christopher Meloni nominated for Oustanding Drama Actor. After years of wonderful performances on shows like OZ and a couple of his own comedy series, he finally gets nominated. I couldn't be more thrilled for him!

Lisa Kudrow's nomination as Best Comedy Actress for THE COMEBACK, one of the most unfairly judged and underappreciated comedy shows in the past year. Michael Patrick King also got nominated for directing the series finale episode.

THE OFFICE garnering a Best Comedy Series nomination and Steve Carrell being nominated for Best Comedy Actor. Love him and love the show.

Stockard Channing getting a nomination as Best Comedy Actress for OUT OF PRACTICE, another unfairly dumped comedy series that deserved far better treatment from its network.

Leslie Jordan winning a guest actor nomination playing Beverley Leslie on WILL & GRACE.

Among the disappointing shocks:

No nomination for any of the DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, not even Marcia Cross who had a masterful year on the show.

LOST not being nominated for Best Drama Series after winning the award last year. This year's show was just as riveting.

No nominations for any of the artistic personnel of THE SHIELD, one of the best dramatic shows on TV. I was certain Forest Whitaker would score a supporting actor nomination. Nope. Nothing for anyone on the show.

I too was a BURKE'S LAW fan with all it's fabulous guest stars, usually playing eccentric suspects.

SUNSET STRIP was a weekly, I enjoyed the American Living Network's revival of the shows and I also got into Hawaiian Eye, especially that crazzzzy theme song.

Though not really detectives, I suppose, I loved THE UNTOUCHABLES!  The best!

SIX FEET UNDER got a number of prestiege nominations (Best Actor and Actress for Peter Krause and Frances Conroy, best writing and direction for Alan Ball for the series finale), but the show wasn't nominated for Best Drama Series.

The nominees (all deserving): '24,' GREY'S ANATOMY, THE SOPRANOS, HOUSE, THE WEST WING.

I've said this before, but my all-time favorite detective/mystery series was ELLERY QUEEN with Jim Hutton. It only ran for one season, but those mysteries were the most well written, tight, and surprising hour mysteries I've ever seen on TV. It was also done in period (late 1940s) which gave the show even more allure.

I'm having a real "Dilbert Day" here in the ol' cube farm.  There are IT goons fooling with the wiring and "checking" stuff on our computers - hollering across the room in the process.  And I had to spend about an hour untangling a snafu with our doctor's office that, in the end, resulted in my losing an appointment that I'd made several months ago.  Can they not tell the difference between my mother-in-law and myself?

Hiya - I love the photos!!! I WANT TPunk's white dress - so pretty. Was Jeanne in our drama class? I don't recognize her at all. A lovely girl. Show us pix of the Prom!!!

Yesterday was cold and cloudy, today is more of the same. I was on the phone quite a lot, arranging for my nephew's motorhome to be fixed in San Antonio (his grandfather just died and left it to him) while said nephew is in Montana on a research project. I'll have to go to Texas next week and drive the thing to LA to my brother's house - then the boy can live in it while he's in grad school at UC Santa Cruz. I called a few trailer parks up there to get prices and reservation info. Sheesh! Lots to do... and he's already toilet trained and literate! Still, it is a pleasure to be able to help him out. What a great boy! He gets back to Seattle Aug. 1 - I'll help him pack up and move down to Santa Cruz. At some point, he just HAS to get his driver's license...

Good morning, all!  The past 16 hours have been a whirlwind of ugly emotions and resentment, and a move.  We are truly in KingLearLand now:  my father in the late 1980s dvided the company he had founded in 1965 between my two brothers.  I had turned down his offers to work for the company and moved to New York in 1979 while my brothers went to work for him.

I'm no Cordelia, but I've always been the one my father came to when my brothers were in conflict, and I have no resentment toward either brother.  I've always loved them both and I'm proud of their accomplishment.  Last night, after my father and I had reconciled over Sunday's disagreement, one of my brothers and his wife decided to let me know how much he resented my father's insistence that his estate, which is fairly large, be divided three ways since most of the estate was generated by a company I had never sweated blood over.  My sister-in-law also turned on my dad to let me know how much of his living expenses in thr past 12 years were covered by the company he no longer owned.  I am still reeling by my brother's insistence that I am entitled to nothing of my father's estate, and boggled that such anger and resentment exists within them.

My father, since then, has removed himself from their house and care anfd is now moving into the home of my brother and sister-in-law where I am a houseguest.  Except for the knights, it sounds like Lear to me.

Today, I will make an effort to restore peace between my brother and me.  I'm sure he'll claim it was too many beers and too much stress.  I will accept his apology and return to New York to lick my wounds.

Oy!

Elmore - I'm confused about something from an ethical perspective.  While your brothers were sweating over the business, weren't they being properly compensated for their work and living financially secure lives because of the business?  I'm confused by their resentment over your father's wishes to divide his estate three ways.  You gave up the security in order to pursue a much more risky career, but they did get a certain amount of security for their hard work.   Or am I misunderstanding something here?

The fact is that Elmore's Father's estate is HIS estate. Whether that estate was largely derived from his business or not is irrelevant. One assumes that whatever came from the business that enlarged his estate, he was entitled to, those were the business arrangements, and that whatever he has earned from what was his original business the sons have no propriety claim on just because they now run the business.  The business may no longer be his, but his estate belongs to him.  He can divide his own private monies and property anyway he sees fit.

DR FJL, I even reminded my brother that if I had stayed, he'd have 33% instead of 50% of a company now.  He's resenting what he feels is a third of an estate his company helped build up going to a nonpartisan, no matter how my father feels.  I never saw the blow coming, but when my grandmother died in 1962 with an estate of only $10,000, the seven children were in two factions over who deserved the most.  It's totally ridiculous what the promise of impending money can do, and I refuse to play into it.  If my dad were to decide tomorrow to leave it to his lady friend or his coffee buddies, I wouldn't mind:  it's his to hand out as he wishes.  That will not be the case, but if it would let my brother sleep easier, I'd be all for it.

There was absolutely NO grief over the $$$ when my parents died - we had all promised them that the Family would stay intact, no matter what. No squabbling over their bones. Nobody saying - "It isn't FAIR!!" We promised to honor them with our own harmony, after their deaths. Their legacy is a strong family, sticking together and helping each other - that's what they wanted, that's what they got.

Elmore, I wish that for your family.

Thanks, DR PenyO!  I thought we were all together before this blowup occurred.   That's what so amazes me over last night's events.  I do suspect that my sister-in-law has a touch of Lady Macbeth, and my brother and sister-in-law with whom I'm staying feels she was behind last night's events.  Who knows?

Is this a rejected screenplay?

 POWER-SAW! (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,202403,00.html)

Quote
NYC Subway Rider Critically Injured in Power-Saw Attack

Thursday , July 06, 2006

NEW YORK  — A man grabbed two cordless power saws off a subway station workbench and went on a rampage Thursday, swinging the saws at riders and slicing open a man's chest before running away, police said.

The 64-year-old victim, whose name was not released, was hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Police were searching for the suspect, described by witnesses as a thin man in his 30s, who had earrings in both ears and was possibly carrying a teddy bear.

The attack occurred before dawn at a subway station a few blocks south of Columbia University.

Wielding a saw in each hand, the man took a swipe at one rider on a platform and missed, police said. Moments later, he cut into the man's chest at a turnstile before bolting out of the station, still carrying the power tools, which were later found in a trash can.

But what happened to Teddy?

Watched some fun things this afternoon.

I started with TWO TICKETS TO BROADWAY which I had never seen before.

I'm just guessing, but I think Howard Hughes must have seen the MGM musicals and decided he wanted to make one of those at his studio. So, he borrowed a passle of MGM talent including four of the top billed stars (Tony Martin, Janet Leigh, Gloria DeHaven, and Ann Miller), also Busby Berkeley to do the dance numbers, and then hired Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn for the new songs, Technicolor, and viola, he had a musical.

Except, the movie lost $1.1 million after it was released.

To give it its due, the songs are delightful, and I've never seen Tony Martin dance (really!) in a movie, and he's not bad at all partnering Janet Leigh. I would have thought he had two left feet, but he doesn't at all. Of course, he's about 10 years too old for the part he's playing, but he's still in great voice. Bob Crosby has a funny number complaining about his "rivalry" with brother Bing, and there's an acrobatic troupe that does some remarkable aerial and tumbling tricks.

Negatively, Eddie Bracken wears out his welcome fast, and Smith and Dale's comedy shtick is pretty old hat, too.

Finished off the afternoon watching a few more ANDY GRIFFITH SHOWs off the second season DVD set. One of my favorites featured Will Wright as stingy old Ben Miller not wanting traveling salesman Sterling Holloway to take away any of his business.

Also enjoyed the one with Aunt Bea supervising town drunk Otis' rehabilitation turning the family home into "The Rock," a maximum security prison. Very funny.

I can empathize with bk's remarks over not remembering when certain pictures were taken. A photo I posted here a few months ago featured the male principals from a 1982 version of SHENANDOAH that I was a part of, and I had NO memory of that photograph ever having been taken even though it was definitely a posed shot and not taken from any moment on-stage.

DR Elmore:

Since your father has felt it necessary to withdraw from the angry son's house into another, it might be wise for "someone" to suggest to the angry son that your father might think to divide his property 50-50, cutting out the angry son altogether.

I'll bet 33 1/3% of something would seem much better to him than nothing whatsoever.

It's truly sad when some "heirs" presume to believe they're more entitled than others, despite the wishes of the person they've inherited from.

I justed noted something interesting.

Neither of last year's winners for Best Dramatic Actor or Actress (James Spader in BOSTON LEGAL and Patricia Arquette in MEDIUM) were even nominated this year in those categories. Neither were previous winners James Gandolfini and Edie Falco for THE SOPRANOS nor Felicity Huffman for DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES.

Hugh Laurie wasn't nominated for HOUSE despite the show getting a nomination.

The new Emmy nomination system certainly threw a few logs onto the fire!

Was I mixing metaphors?

My angry brother was just here, primarily I believe, to check out the lay of the land.  We were cordial, and my other brother and father were here as well, watching the 5:00 news.  I know he's embarassed that too much beer and his wife got him going, and I'm not going to hold a grudge.  My hurt feelings will heal.  The truth is, I love my brothers, and I won't let this megillah separate us.

I'm really not being noble; I am quite proud of my two brothers' accomplishments and abilities.  Always have been and always will.  I still want to kick his ass today.

Tom Cruise's Least Fave 'South Park' Episode Up For Emmy

LOS ANGELES (July 6, 2006) -- One of the Emmy nominees for best animated program is the episode of "South Park" that's said to have angered Tom Cruise and Isaac Hayes.

The episode called "Trapped in the Closet" implies that Cruise is gay and makes fun of Scientology.

Cruise's fellow Scientologist Isaac Hayes reportedly quit because he was upset with the episode. And when it came time to rerun it, Cruise allegedly called Comedy Central and demanded that it be pulled. It was, even though Cruise's people denied he asked for it.

Ken Lay's Last Evasion
To Some, CEO Is Cheating Them One More Time
By Henry Allen
Washington Post Staff Writer

Thursday, July 6, 2006; Page C01

...

Many people had looked forward to knowing more about Ken Lay, especially how he liked prison.

But now that he's died of a heart attack in the luxury of his Colorado getaway while awaiting sentencing for his crimes, none of his victims will be able to contemplate that he's locked away in a place that makes the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel look like Hawaii; that he might be spending long nights locked in a cell with a panting tattooed monster named Sumo, a man of strange and constant demands; and long days in the prison laundry or jute mill or license plate factory, gibbering with anguish as fire-eyed psychopaths stare at him for unblinking hours while they sharpen spoons into jailhouse stilettos.

He will not be ground into gray jailhouse paste by listening to the eardrum-scarring symphony of 131-decibel despair that is the Muzak of penitentiaries, by gagging on the dead prison air, by choking on the deader food, by watching the blue sky taunt him with freedom over the exercise yard, and by feeling his nervous system rent by the cruel grenades of memories -- explosions of nostalgia for the days when he knew he'd be swanning forever through the comfy laps and cool lawns of luxury and infinite possibility. Sweet Gulfstreams through sweet skies, the pools, the jewels, the Maybach limousines, a life in which he didn't just pimp his ride, he pimped the entire world as he knew it.

Unfortunately, his death may well mean his conviction will be expunged (or in the words of a FoxNewsHead channeling Sheridan: "his conviction will be extinguished".)

What an absolutely exhausting day this was.  I'm really all in.  But, as I said, all packages are on their way (we have ten copies left of the signed DVDs - spread the word), and I spent the entire latter part of the day dealing with this program called Constant Contact, which is an e-blast program so that you don't have to deal with the peculiarities of AOL or any other e program.  It gets through spam filters, the images show up beautifully - it took a while (my helper basically did it all) to figure out, and then we imported all the e-mail addresses from every e-mail account that I have.  Two categories - one just for Kritzerland News, and one for General News about me, me, and me.

TOD: Detective stories? I have never been much interested in the fictional ones. The forensic science programs on the Discovery channel I find interesting.

I saw on the television today that Ashlee Simpson has a new look. I couldn't care less.

Yes, Twist is about the Twist and other dance crazes of the 50s and 60s.

I have the TWIST dvd....but I knew THE TWIST was dead when I was a kid and Arlene Francis and Bennett Cerf talked about doing it the night before at some club in NYC.

Ashlee Simpson needs more than a new look.

No one in the jernt.  History repeats itself.  Or does itself repeat history.  I know not.  I care not.

Finished Twist.  I actually got off my couch and began to twist at some point.  It was both shocking and pathetic and oddly endearing.

BK, are the cabaret tickets general seating or reserved seating?

General seating, but if I know you're coming I'll reserve a table for you.

I would appreciate that. Sandra and I plan to come -- but I'm waiting to hear from Kerry. Do I pay when I get there?

I also like Prime Suspect series that was from the BBC. Helen Mirren was excellent as the detective.

On the local news, they are interviewing giggly girls dressed as pirates who are camped outside a movie theater. It must be a slow news day.

Dear Reader Laura, it's best if you book now via the reservation line - there are only 100 seats - Susan is selling very fast, for example.  I think you were on the e-blast list, but if you weren't let me know and I'll send you the info.
