Title: THE MISSING HOURS

Well, you've read the notes, the notes moved along like a gazelle with a hickey, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're off trying to find The Missing Hours and, of course, The Hours are off trying to find The Missing Cows.

Late last night, I watched the "Deceit" video with the commentary and I must say that the comments were quite enjoyable.  When it was over, I really didn't feel like the entire show went by...it seemed to go so quickly.  That is really the way commentaries on DVDs should go. :) I remember when one of Barbra Streisand's movies was released on DVD last year or the year before and the big advertising was something like "special Barbra commentary on select scenes."  In other words, probably not even 10 minutes of Babs' commentary during the entire movie (whichever one it was). :P

Finally arrived yesterday. Watched it twice.
I enjoyed it. I was able to figure out some of it while watching it, but not everything. It was fun to see BK acting again. A little taken aback when some 4 letter words were used (not a prude) I wasn't expecting them. Tammy acquitted herself quite well in her first "adult" role. Having seen her in various stages of her career it was nice to see her "grown up".
I always knew Matthew Ashford can act. (When I used to watch Days)Whe he is given good material to work with. He can do comedy and drama very well (He still manages to shines when he is stuck with bad story lines)

I must be out in left field--I didn't realize that DR TPunk and Rodzinski were out in CA!!  Welcome home and I'm glad you had such a good time!   :)

DR Dakota Celt,  my very best vibes to both you and your father.

I haven't said it on the board but I guess maybe I should.  One of the reasons I haven't been able to post like I used to is because the doctor has told me that my Mother is terminal.  I've been trying to spend as much time with her as I can.

The other reason is because the routine mammogram I went for awhile back was not normal.  I've had to go for more tests and will be seeing a surgion next week about having a biopsy.  The “C” word hasn’t been brought into play  and I’m hoping that it is just a cyst or something else that’s benign.  So not to worry.   :)

I'm just doing the best I can and taking it day by day.  It's just that some days I manage it better then others.  So if I seem a little out of it, forgive me.

Anyway, enough of that.

On Sunday Ant and I watched the Ken Burns documentary on the Brooklyn Bridge. Don't know why it was on but it was certainly worth watching. It made Mr. Morelli realize that he had never walked over the Brooklyn Bridge. One of our activities on either Saturday or Sunday (both days are predicted to be hot ones in NYC) will be to walk across the bridge!

Thank you so much for the birthday greetings.  I am home this morning waiting for the AC guy to come back and finish. I woke up at 5:00 AM when the garbage truck went by and decided that since it is my birthday I could be obnoxious and wake Paul up at 6:00AM to meet me at Panera. So that's what we did.   I don't have any plans. I'll work at home until the AC is installed and working then I'll head to the office.

Bruce, I'm coming out of lurkdom for a few moments here.  I'm one of the Administrators of the Connotator, the website for Matt and his character, Jack, on Days.  Sarah (DakotaCelt) has been wonderful about keeping us abreast during the play-to-DVD process of Deceit.  She's been a good ambassador!

I got my copy yesterday, watched it last night, and wanted to tell you personally how much I enjoyed it.  I thought it was clever, with tons of witty dialogue, delivered perfectly by all three of you.  The twists and turns were dizzying and the ending was fantastic.  Thank you for making the DVD available for those of us who live too far away to see it in person.

It's been a roller-coaster week for us Matt fans.  We had the excitement of receiving our DVD's, coupled with the news that he, once again, has been let go from Days of our Lives.  I saw you posted that you'll be seeing him this weekend.  Please let him know, for us, how sad, angry, disappointed, devastated, and any other negative emotions you can think of, we all are at the Connotator at the news of his imminent departure.  I know he's not too computer-savvy, but I hope he can find a few minutes to check out the Connotator and read all the posts, about his release from the show, as well as his performance in Deceit.  They are all in support of him, and Missy, for their futures.

And thank you, Bruce, for seeing the talent that Matt possesses, and for always having a kind and supportive word about him.  It's meant alot to us at the Connotator.

Good morning, all!  Posting from my own eMac, I am happier than a gazelle in spring.  I did have parts of a lovely, but necessary, visit to Ohio.  My dad is doing quite well now:  this last round of chemo left him neither sick or debilitated, and I have hopes he will be around for longer than I could have hoped.

This morning, I have a trek to the Post Office, possibly a meeting with the composer of THE TRAGIC AND HORRIBLE LIFE OF THE SINGING NUN, and - alas - I have to deal with my intern Dylan, who's been a good friend and who took great care of the place while I was gone.

He has decided he does not want to live in New York, but his current depression on what he wants to do with himself has led to inertia:  one of the reasons I let him move in was that his share of the rent would help cover trips to Ohio.  So far, I've got next to nothing from him, and I could use the money.  He's complained about his B&N colleagues being morons, but they're paying more rent money, I'm sure, some of them going to school as well, and surviving.  I'm not a charity and I'm only sympathetic to a point.  I knew he had psychological scars from his horror of a mother, but I cannot repair years of damage.  And she's still playing mindgames on him, which only increase the inertia and depression!

Oy!

As for Dylan, it does sound like classic depression from your comments.  Inertia can be a symptom of the condition, as well.  Has he been seeing a doctor about his condition, and getting medication?  It sounds like he need it, more than moving to another place.  In fact, the energy required for moving could aggravate what is going on.

Walty is comfortably ensconced at the vet. While I was there dropping him off, a days old kitten came in accompanied by 5 firefighters.  After they left we had a chuckle about how it took five of them to bring in a teeny tiny kitten.

I found this in the news section over at IMDB:

Quote
'Pirates' Movie Producers Sued by Screenwriter

The global success of the Pirates Of The Caribbean sequel has been tainted by a Hollywood screenwriter, who claims the whole idea for the franchise was his. The megahit, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, smashed box office records in eight territories - including America and the UK - over the weekend, but writer Royce Mathew is keen to halt the celebrations. He claims he created "drawings" and a "screenplay" for a project he called Supernatural Pirate Movie - and now he fears his ideas have been turned into a Disney blockbuster. Royce states he even called the pirate ship in his film treatment the Black Pearl - the same name used for Johnny Depp's craft, and the subtitle for the original film. And he also created a lead characters called Will Turner - the same name as Orlando Bloom's swashbuckler in the Disney films - and Elizabeth - the Christian name of Keira Knightley's character. The screenwriter insists he registered the drawings and his screenplay with the US Copyright Office, and is now suing the The Walt Disney Company, Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Touchstone Home Video and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, claiming movie bosses used his ideas as a blueprint for the Pirates of The Caribbean films. [/size]

Now, I don't know about anyone else, but it strains my credulity even more completely than any product by Gerber that this fellow, Royce Mathew, is only now suing Disney et al.  After all, the first PotC movie came out three years ago - didn't Mr. Mathew hear about it then?  Especially since every element he claims to be his was included in said first film.

Of course, according to his IMDB biography, in 2003 he was doing nude modeling for art classes in NYC.  Maybe he just couldn't find his clothes, and they wouldn't let him into the theaters.

Getting stuck with deadbeat "roommates" is a pain, DR Elmore. I've had two in my life. One stayed 5 months, and the other an incredible 14 months. I only let the 14 month one stay because I was in love with him and hoping he'd come around. Woody,

It is typical that this sort of lawsuit happens when almost any movie becomes a mega-hit.  I know Terry Rossio And Ted Elliott...the credited writers of the first movie and the only writers of the second...very well, good enough to regard them as pals, have been up to Terry's Mullohand home on several occasions, have done panels and guild business with Ted and used to frequent their website, Wordplay, more often than this one...they still have articles of mine posed.  They are hard-working honest guys and deserve their success.

Any success like this has people crawling out of the woodwork, claiming their ideas have been stolen...very rarely to these charges amount to anything.  It will also be very hard for this guy to claim his ideas were stolen when the movie is basically based on an amusement park ride.  Hell, maybe I should sue because when I was with Disney in the late eighties, I suggested doing a movie based on Pirates of Carribean, my favourite ride (though I had no specific story at the time).  No one took me up on the idea at the time...story of my life, missed timing.

I was very distressed to read about Matt Ashford's release from DAYS OF OUR LIVES. The comings and goings from these soaps is often a head scratcher for me because it's certainly NOT based on talent. When I've gotten involved in certains soaps, I've always been shocked how untalented lunks continue on year after year while more talented folk either get axed or placed on the recurring list where we might not see them for months on end. Very frustrating and one of the reasons I take long sabbaticals from the soaps.

Good morning!

The forecast says thundershowers this afternoon, but until that happens, it's hot and sticky here. Miserable, in fact. Near 80 already this morning. Ugh!

We are already at 78 at 920 am central time....

They are predicting 95 to 105 for the rest of the week for Fargo and it has been even hotter west of here.

But you must be happy! You were asking for some hot weather a few days ago. I, on the other hand, will be unhappy about this for the next few months until we can get to some more moderate temperatures.   :-\

I guess I will return to the first season box of THE WILD WILD WEST this afternoon, at least for one more episode or so. I would like to see a full length film today, too, and there is nothing on of interest to me tonight on network TV, so DVDs will continue to be my primary entertainment source today.

Something silly just occured to me.

Do soap actors ever get written out of shows because the writers run out of ideas for stories for their characters?

Mr. Ashford could well have been given the axe not for anything he has or hasn't done, but because the writers have run out of things to say about his character.

Could happen.

In any case, it seems to me that he'll be able to find other work, and quickly.

Running out of ideas for characters is the most often quoted reason for letting soap actors go, but often that's used as a mask for other trouble behind the scenes.

I don't know anything about the merits of the Pirates case, but it seems that the fact that it takes someone a few years to actually sue is irrelevant, as long as they made some attempt to resolve the matter without going to court prior to that.  The statute of limitations (limit on time to sue) should be just that, a period of time a person has to bring a case and if they choose to try to resolve the matter without the courts and then only sue if they get nowhere, I personally feel that shouldn't be held against them.  But that says nothing about the merits, and I'm sure Pogue's point of view is more relevant about the merits as to the actual movie industry.

You guys are too sweet and are really making my morning.  Thanks again.

This will most likely be an uneventful birthday.  I celebrated with my parents on Sunday. My mother likes my red couch so much she bought me a set of poppy dishes to go with it.  When she said it was to go with my livingroom, I said "But Mom, we aren't supposed to eat in the livingroom, remember?" They will be fine in the kitchen or dining room and I really do like them but it was fun to tease her after all the years of hearing I shouldn't be eating in the livingroom.

The Air Conditioner man finally showed up.  So, now I must wait for him to finish and then off to work.

Glad you enjoyed the DVD.  We've got a Ten Questions With Matthew Ashford going up on the Kritzerland site in the next day or two.  I'll post here when it's live, but it's fun and very informative and I think his fans will enjoy it.

Getting stuck with deadbeat "roommates" is a pain, DR Elmore. I've had two in my life. One stayed 5 months, and the other an incredible 14 months. I only let the 14 month one stay because I was in love with him and hoping he'd come around. He did pay his half of "selected" utilities (the cheaper ones like water and natural gas; of course, gas isn't cheap any more). Oh, the horror stories I could tell!

Luckily, I'm not remotely in love with Dylan, but I'm sure beginning to feel how my Dad felt between 1972 and 1979, while I was struggling with depression, inertia, and inabiiity to handle my life!  I did accomplish a lot and perfected a lot of my craft during that period, but I'm sure my parents regarded me as a total waste of time.  Luckily, they never abandoned me or gave up.

I'm here, I'm weary, and I'm bored.

Have been sleeping very well lately, but for some reason, I've had difficulties the past couple of days in getting out of bed.  I'm just pooped, for some reason...possibly it's an allery thing.

We are supposed to get some of our hottest weather in a long time over the next five days.  Here in Oakland, it's rare that we get days in the upper 80s, although it happens.  Weatherman last night suggested we might see a day or two of triple digits and some high humidity.

I hate this global warming thingie!

If I wanted weather like that, I'd be living in South Carolina!

Hmmmm......my first question for this ASK BK day.....which film do you think was most successfully (creatively speaking) turned into a television series?

My first vote goes to PEYTON PLACE with MASH a close second.

I think ALL IN THE FAMILY could be added to the list.  Even though it was directly based from the British TV series, the characters and their relationships are derived as much from Norman Lear and Bud Yorkin's NEVER TOO LATE.

I have no idea what was involved.  It was all highly suspicious and I doubt the administration would have approved.  I'm sure several grade point averages were helped out via these instructions.  Sounds kind of like Dr Pangloss and Paquette, n'est-ce pas?

of course I am at work now, so I won't be able to enjoy it until later, but I turned the thermostat way down. I figure all the furniture etc is hot and needs to cool down. It will be frosty when I get home...then I'll set it normally.   Once we fired it up (can you fire up something that is cold) I couldn't believe how fast the house began cooling down and how cold the air was coming out of the vents.

During the weekend I came across an old cassette tape that was released around 1985 called THE PRIDE OF PORTLAND. The cassette was produced locally in Portland using local talent such as Nu Shooz, Dan Reed Network, Crazy 8's, Cal Scott, and other singers and bands from the area...anywho, when I bought it waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when I only listend to two songs on it which I loved...but now that I have this rental car which has only a cassette player in it I have been listening to the cassette...boy Portland had some great pop music talent back  in the 80s!!!

Two of the songs on the cassette got a lot of airplay, although likely only locally and the whole thing was done to raise money "For African and Oregon Hunger Relief" and featured the hit song KEEP GIVING TO THE WORLD by the Pride of Portland chorus (which was made up of local celebs from the sports, political, music, and broadcasting world).

...There was a voice teacher at my college who tried teaching proper breathing technique by having his young female students take off their shirts/blouses/etc., and stand there in their bras.  He would then ask them to place a Kleenex over their chest.  The goal was to make the Kleenex not move - which meant that you were properly breathing from your diaphragm.  However, that also meant that the young girls had to keep their chests stuck out.  Hmm... :-\

THE LOVED ONE is a favorite of mine, and it was on TV just a couple weeks ago. What I noticed watching it is that so much of the dialogue was dubbed. Sort of flailing around for things to watch today. I began with the Thanksgiving episode of FRIENDS from Season 7.

This is the one in which we found out that Dr. Ross didn't know all 50 state names (neither did anyone else), Chandler hated dogs, and, the best thing in the episode, Joey's coining of the phrase "a moo point." Hilarious.

Next up was another episode of THE WILD WILD WEST, this one from the third disc in the set of the first season.

Much more a traditional western-like episode than the usual sci-fi tinged shows in the series, this one boasted some surprising guest stars:

Leslie Nielsen, Katherine Ross, John Drew Barrymore, Elsha Cook, Jr., and Jackie Joseph (who didn't even get billing).

Then I watched AFTER THE FUNERAL from the latest Hercule Poirot boxed set. If you've seen Margaret Rutherford's MURDER AT THE GALLOP, you know the basic mystery and the identity of the murderer. However, even if I hadn't already been tipped off by that previous film, one particular casting decision let the cat out of the bag very, very early. Sad to say, this is probably the most disappointing Poirot mystery that I've seen. (It was nice to get the backstories on the other suspects which were missing from MURDER AT THE GALLOP.)

And I finished this afternoon with the blooper reel for 1938 from the ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD 2-disc set. Called BREAKDOWNS OF 1938, we get to see folks like Kay Francis, Claudette Colbert, Humphrey Bogart, Bette Davis, Hugh Herbert, Pat O'Brien, and other luminaries flub and bungle through some of their 1938 films.

I probably wouldn't have pulled this out except I was reading reviews of the Warners Tough Guy boxed set that's coming out next week, and special features on several of those DVDs were BREAKDOWN blooper reels from 1936, 1937, and 1939. It was mentioned in the review that the 1938 reel was in the ROBIN HOOD set, and I'd never watched it before. There are outtakes specifically from Robin Hood on the disc, and I'll watch those when I go back downstairs.

I've spent the day sorting through 18 days' worth of mail and packages.  I have a bit of reading this week.

The meeting about the Singing Nun is set for Saturday, and I've made a couple of phone calls about some other work.  There are tornado warnings outside the city, and they keep interrupting the television with warnings.  I hope whatever storms we are getting cut down the humidity.

I loved WILL IN THE WRLD, and I got today a book about Christopher Marlowe, THE RECKONING.  It will be my subway/bus reading for the next few months.

It could but in the case of Matt, I doubt that. IN the opinion of many of the fans, Matt was let go due to Missy, his co-star leaving.  They (TPTB) cannot see Jack as a stand alone character and the potential it provides.

However the appreciation of Matt's talents will never waiver. The fans admire him far too much to let that falter.

There have been cases of it but it boils down to TPTB like the actor or the character or if they have a personal bone against them.

In Matt's case he has been fired three times by DAys and the last time they brought him back they continually had his character dying and then backburnered. GRanted the writer they had for a bit was less than competent for it was the same individual who writes Passion and he apparently did not like Matt.

What kind of birds? And most birds have more than one baby at a time.

sweet.... IT is always fun to watch that... When I worked at the museum in Grand Forks, there were birds who always nested in the light fixture and they hatched a brood in the early summer. It was fun to see them take their first tentative flights.

The day ended on 2 high notes (if not a C at least a B natural...or two)  One is the Cats, They were nose to nose and no one died. There was some minor hissing and a little growling, but it was quite friendly.   I didn't let it last too long and then separated them and praised them in the ways they loved to be praised...Bonita Tuna Flakes for Callie and playing toys for Boo.....

The cats indeed gave me a very wonderful gift.   I know it will work out now. We are getting very close.  They are both quite irritated I shut the door.  Soon they will gang up against me to be together.  That's the day I'm waiting for.

I liked that episode....

Did you know about the spin-off called Torchwood?

BTW, Capt. Jack is rather cute.
