Well, you've read the notes, the notes had both time and space, not to mention continuum, and now it is time for you to post until the cows continuum to come home.
-
And the word of the day is: OBSECRATE!
-
I haven't seen many Bond movies (and none of the Pierce Brosnan movies...although I loved "Remington Steele"), but "Goldfinger" was one of my favorites. The first James Bond movie that I can remember watching because I wanted to was "For Your Eyes Only." I also love the theme song. :)
-
My favourite Bond book and movie by far is "From Russia With Love". For me the movies went rapidly downhill after "Goldfinger".
I've collected all the songs. WORST by far was Madonna's effort. My favourites are "Never Say Never Again" (Probably JMK"S too), "The Spy Who Loved Me", "All Time High", "For Your Eyes Only" and "We Have All The Time In The World".
-
"The Spy Who Loved Me" was the other Bond song that I really like.
-
I knew that there was another one. ;)
-
Bond movie thug or victim?
-
OzDerek's Bear Ted took his visitor "Tassie Ted" to the Zoo today. TT goes back to Tasmania in a few days time.
-
Tassie Ted rugged up for a cool Winter's day at the Zoo.
-
Honorable mentions to the theme song from "Live & Let Die" and "The Look of Love" from "Casino Royale".
-
Hello and Goodnight DR George.
-
Hello and Goodnight, also, DR Tomovoz! :)
-
Bond movie thug or victim?
:o This isn't make-up, is it?? :-\
-
Not on the Bears George.
-
~~~Vibes!!~~~
-
Never read a James Bond novel.
Favorite Songs:
Goldfinger
Thunderballs
We Have All the Time In the World
Diamond Are Forever
Live and Let Die
The Spy Who Loved Me
For Your Eyes Only
All Time High (perhaps the last really good Bond Theme Song)
Favorite Bond moment from the first one I saw: On His Majesty's Secret Service
Bond skiing to escape the villiams. Jumps over a road in front of snowblower. One villians falls in front of it, Gets chopped up and blown off to the sky and Bond turns and looks and quipsm "That Guy had a lot of guts"
Then saw Diamonda Are Forever
and then they released the earlier Bond films. A triple bill of Dr. No, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger. (Which I sat through one Saturday afternoon. Then a double bill of You Only Live Twice and Thunderball.
-
And the word of the day is: OBSECRATE!
I shall travel to Guadelajara, to OBSECRATE that I receive the good life, and then I shall settle down for some TACOS, BEER, and fishing.
-
Re: Bond.
I never was much of a fan of the books. I even tried the later ones, by John Gardner, but the character just didn't do it for me in book form.
And I was not that big a fan of Connery as Bond. Connery got better when he got older, something Bond could never do.
For that matter, Roger Moore was too much the fop for the role.
But I'm still a fan of the films.
For me, Dalton and Brosnan are more what I imagined Bond to be. And I look forward to finding out what Daniel Craig does with the role.
Favorite films?
The Spy Who Love Me (in spite of Moore)
Licence to Kill
Goldeneye
The World Is Not Enough
Der B and I have the entire series (to date) on DVD, plus the spoofy Casino Royale. I don't think we'll be adding the new releases; what we have is fine enough.
(And Judi Dench as M positively rocks!)
-
Time to get ready for work. Yes, I'm feeling better now. Later.
-
Good morning, all! I am pondering the day amd mulling over the SWEENEY TODD of last evening.
Today I have a choral arrangement to finish up, a meeting about some work for Klea Blackhurst, and a dinner with two friends I haven't seen in far too long.
As to Mr Bond, I caught all the early ones beginning with DR NO, and I stopped watching them when Mr Connery gave up the role. My favorites are FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE and GOLDFINGER. I believe I drove everyone mad in my college dorm by playing the GOLDFINGER soundtrack to death.
-
The opening credit music for CASINO ROYALE has always been a favorite of mine, as far as instrumentals go. (It was very cutely performed by singers popping up out of the orchestra pit in the poorly-received Roundabout Theater Bacharach-David revue THE LOOK OF LOVE.)
-
There is an article in Playbill On-Line about
Dear Edwina (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/101083.html)
but nowhere does it mention DR Jose! How unseemly
Don't these people know who is important? ;)
-
Good Morning!
I have a sorta longish and sorta busy day ahead of me...
DEAR EDWINA (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/101083.html)
*My name is not listed, but I'll be in the "garage" at the keyboard. ;)
I'm going in in a few to get some more notes under my fingers, and then we have a run-thru his afternoon, and then our first performance tonight at 7:00. Whew!
So...
-
Awww.. Thanks DR Ben... Well, in the Rattlestick e-Newsletter my last name is actually spelled wrong, so... You can't win 'em all.
-
OK - Gotta run...
Laters...
-
Goldfinger; Shirley Eaton; Honor Blackman
BK, to indulge in moments of Midnight madness, I'd have to stay up until 3AM.
-
Good morning all.
Tomovoz, I enjoyed Tassie Ted's jaunty sweater.
-
I haven't watched a James Bond movie since I was a kid, but I recall YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE as being a favorite because it took place in Japan and co-starred Mie Hama and Akiko Wakabayashi who had both previously starred in separate Godzilla movies.
Sean Connery is my favorite Bond and the theme to Casino Royale is my fave of the Bond songs.
-
I don't know why, but I just found this record album to be most interesting.
Good morning, gang!
It is likely that TODAY'S THE DAY. I spoke to the mechanic late yesterday afternoon, and got the news that the sucker DOES run and DOES stop. Needs a few more "minor" adjustments - like headlights and turn signals... but I should call him at 11 ayem, San Antonio time - 9 ayem here... and if it's a go, I'll head over to DMV and get a trip permit (the sucker isn't registered); then call Geico and get an insurance rider. Then hit the airport for a 5:30 flight, find a motel, sleep fast, and begin the drive early tomorrow morning. Whew. And not a moment too soon.
I have to get back to Washington by next weekend for the Village Theatre new plays thingy, and to begin to drum up free ink in local papers for my 3-part seminar at Redmond Library the last week of August - all to promote my reading from Jewish Thighs for Redmond Association of the Spoken Word on September 2.
AND - I got an email from University of Santa Monica, informing me that I have, indeed, been accepted to their Masters program for the Fall. One weekend a month for two years, and I'll have the degree... I think my parents, may-they-rest-in-peace, would be content with my use of the gift they left.
Jose - break a leg! Oh, baby!!!
-
Page 2, at last!!!
-
Good morning!
It's going to be another stifling day with another one just as bad tomorrow. The weekend should be a bit better.
-
I LOVE Sean Connery as Bond. Didn't care much for Roger Moore. Nor Lazenby, though my ex liked Lazenby enormously. I like Pierce Brosnan quite a lot, and thought T. Dalton was just a bit too emotional for the icy character. Song: You Only Live Twice sticks in my mind, sometimes for DAYS! I think GOLDFINGER was the first one I saw - the murder of a beautiful girl by gold-leafing her gave me nightmares for years. It still makes me shudder. I am a huge fan of the opening sequences.
-
For me, no one has ever come close to Connery as James Bond, but then, he's the one I grew up with, so of course I think he's the greatest. I have younger friends who think Roger Moore was the best Bond (I think he's the worst - by far), so there you go.
I think GOLDFINGER is the Tiffany of the Bond movies. It's got a slightly bigger budget than the first two Bonds so it's a bit more impressive production-wise. It has the best theme song, the best women, the best villains, the best story with lots of surprises.
As BK said, all the others afterwards tried to outdo it by being bigger, wider (Panavision), louder, more overstuffed, but none of the others have ever matched its appeal.
Of the other Bonds, I think Pierce Brosnan is the best, and I've enjoyed all four of his adventures even if they got worse in quality with each successive one. GOLDENEYE is my favorite Bond after the Connery ones.
I also liked both of the Bonds Timothy Dalton did and watch them fairly often, too.
The Roger Moore Bonds get the least play around my house, but I will occasionally put one on since I've seen them fewer times than the others and tend to forget what they're about.
-
Goldfinger; Shirley Eaton; Honor Blackman
BK, to indulge in moments of Midnight madness, I'd have to stay up until 3AM.
Aha! That is the problem. It is not the rest of us Wussb Haines, but it is CP's fault for moving away from the Left Coast.
-
As for the theme songs, after "Goldfinger," I like "For Your Eyes Only," "Thunderball," "Nobody Does It Better," and "From Russia With Love."
-
I recorded THE ARISTOCRATS off HBO-HD last night and will try watching it today. Not sure I'll like it, but since it was the object of some discussion around here a few weeks ago, I'd like to see for myself what all the talk was about.
-
Also would like to get to Tuesday night's RESCUE ME at some point today.
-
Tonight, I'm having dinner with my former partner and then he's coming back to see the Mary Martin version of PETER PAN on DVD. There is a local production here this fall, and he thinks he'd like to try for Captain Hook. I think he's all wrong for it, but since he's never seen the show (amazing, isn't it, for someone involved with theater?), he's going to see it tonight.
-
I'm up, I'm up. I've only been getting six hours of sleep a night this whole week - I've got to start getting eight again. It's my own fault - I just sit at this machine until two every morning.
-
Today's Oregonian headline of note department:
Believe it or not, the accompanying article was not about ALW!!
-
Less than twenty postings until I achieve my new plateau, which will most surely be achieved this very day.
-
DR Elmore, you asked me the other day if I knew anything about future Mae West releases on DVD, and as I was curious about her, Deanna Durbin, Marlene Dietrich, and Carole Lombard, I posed the question at the HTF inquiring if anyone knew how the first DVD sets for those ladies had sold. Here's the answer I got this morning:
<Word is that the Durbin "Sweetheart Pack", while not an out-and-out disaster, performed poorly, likely not a profitable release for Universal. The 3 "glamour" releases had far worse sales results. They'd likely be considered a minor debacle based on their sales, so I wouldn't expect another trip to that well soon.>
Very disappointing news if true. I guess I'll be keeping a close eye on my West and Dietrich laserdiscs now!
And I'll be keeping an eye out so I can burn DVD-Rs of some Durbin films I love and SPRING PARADE which I've never even seen.
DR MattH, thanks so much for the update. It's greatly appreciated. If I live long enough, I may see KLONDIKE ANNIE and SHE DONE HIM WRONG on DVD, but there are other, perhaps more deserving, things I'm still waiting on!
-
It seems that the DVD division of certain studios, despite occasional excellent work and releases, just don't know what they're doing - I was discussing this very thing at my Paramount lunch yesterday, as that studio is, for me, one of the most erratic. I suggested they hire me for one year and let me do things right. :-)
You are SO right. They have treasure that they're sitting on and doing nothing with. It's very frustrating. And yet they release some things that don't deserve the attention they receive.
-
Now, I'm heading down to get cleaned up for the rest of the day. I'm so used to having lunch out that to have dinner out is unique! Makes me have to rearrange my day's schedule completely.
WBBL.
-
And they keep releasing the same movies over and over again. Ridiculous.
-
I mean, it's great to do a special edition of Mommie, Dearest but not to do a new transfer, to use the same bloody transfer as the older DVD is stupid and a slap in the face.
-
Fifteen more posts, baby.
-
Spirtas DVD mention up on Playbill.com
http://www.playbill.com/news/article/101106.html
-
What I want to see on DVD is "The Uninvited" with Ray Milland.
It's amazing to me that it's not out yet.
-
JMK - Well, whatever the Oregonian says, I'll go along with it. We in this here household love the Oregonian these days.
-
The "San Francisco Fog"is alive and kickin' and has returned us to our normally chilly selves.
We are grateful beyond words!
-
Should there be a party for BK's plateau? Or if not that, a partay?
-
Tonight's Big Brother show should prove interesting. Of more interest than who gets evicted is who will win power. Many changes may be on the horizon:
For MBarnum -- it's not the best screen capture ever...but it will give you an idea of how Kaysar looks now that he's had his head shaved (by Marcellas):
-
We're celebrating BK's plateau with braised short ribs, which are cooking right now. Kind of a plateau platter.
-
And they keep releasing the same movies over and over again. Ridiculous.
that is what drives me nutty! For instance at Universal they are releasing DRACULA and FRANKENSTEIN for the 3rd time, but all but ignoring their treasure trove of other Universal classics such as their westerns, sci-fi and dramas from the 30s through the 50s!
Of all the studios, Universal is the one that has the most films I want to see! It wouldn't be so bad it they were at least shown on TV so that I could tape them, but none of the channels seem to be showing Universal's stuff at this time.
-
I watched the head shaved Kaysar last night on Tuesday's tape episode...he looks good no matter what.
I got such a kick out of Marcellas talking about his crush/love for Kaysar! LOL!
SPOILER (to those who may not be caught up on BB all stars)
Although both evicties are dangerous to others in the house, I do hope that Jase stays for awhile longer...Dr. Will's lack of enthusiasm, even if it is his strategy, is tiring to me....even though his speech about not liking anyone in the house did crack me up.
-
I am interested in the Will Rogers set of DVDs I read about. STEAMBOUT ROUND THE BEND is a hilarious gem.
-
Trying to get up the energy to jog by nine-thirty. It's already really hot out there.
-
I happened to tune into BB the other night. Dr. Will's speech was absolutely hilarious. Of course, if he really wanted to, he could just demand to be let out of the house at any given time, couldn't he?
-
I've been trying for weeks to come up with what I call a runner for PennyO's show - not a complete song, really, but a recurring motif for every time she meets a new guy. Part of it I got last week, but the main part has been eluding me - I got that two days ago and am now trying to write the various lyrics to it. And I think that will do it for the songs.
-
Good work, Rodzinski.
-
Well, it's countdown to new plateau.
-
And yes, we shall have to have a partay, although given the attendance during this here month of July, nobody will be here to celebrate.
-
I think I shall achieve my new plateau post-jogging.
-
Thursday greetings! For lunch today, I'm enjoying a dish of the spaghetti & meat sauce that DH Richard made for last night's dinner. Yum!
TOD - I'm not the Bond fan in our household, but I do remember seeing Moonraker.
-
And yes, we shall have to have a partay, although given the attendance during this here month of July, nobody will be here to celebrate.
I'll be here, BK, unless the thunder and lightening require that we disconnect the computers at home. That's what happened last night.
-
Just noticed that yesterday or the day before, I must have passed the 3000 mark in posts. Now, that's a nice round number!
-
NUM-bahs!
-
Back from a nice long and brisk jog. I could feel it getting even hotter as I went along my route.
Well, seven more posts will do it.
-
Well, at least some people are here, should I choose to hit the new plateau right now.
-
I think the two and all those zeroes will look quite lovely.
-
T-minus three.
-
T-minus two.
The suspense is killing me. Why the suspense would want to kill me when I have never done harm to the suspense is anyone's guess.
-
T-minus two again. Math never did it for me.
-
T-minus one.
-
T-minus zero.
And with this post I have achieved my new plateau - 20,000 count them 20,000 postings!
Now, onto the next plateau!
I am never one to rest on my laurels or my hardys for that matter.
-
Well, congrats BK! That is a lot of posts!
-
For kitten lovers and non-kitten lovers alike, a very cute and funny video!
http://www.videobomb.com/posts/show/2860 (http://www.videobomb.com/posts/show/2860)
-
BK, congrats on your new achievement.
-
My next achievement will be going downstairs to retrieve the laundry from the dryer.
-
And my next achievement will be to continue work on the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
My, that 2 and all those zeros look sweet. I think it will take me a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, time (get the point ;) )to reach that plateau
-
Congratulations to esteemed MR BK on 20,000 posts!
-
I have read MOST all of them, I suspect. And if I had commented on each and every one of them, I would also be at 20,000 posts!
C'est la vie, n'es pas?
-
I had terrible day yesterday, a terrible night, and so far an awful Thursday....BUT I think it is all behind me now....and I didn't even need a life coach!
-
Congratulations on posting 20,000 separate things to say!! And here's the proof for posterity:
-
No YOUNGBLOOD today, DRMATTH, I fear it must be done again. I am so sorry....that your good deed is turning into such a chore.
-
What oh WHAT!!! is going to get a designer kicked off PROJECT RUNWAY next week? And who who who will it be?
-
AND - I got an email from University of Santa Monica, informing me that I have, indeed, been accepted to their Masters program for the Fall. One weekend a month for two years, and I'll have the degree... I think my parents, may-they-rest-in-peace, would be content with my use of the gift they left.
And Congratulations to DR Penny0!! ;D
-
I like Laura and Robert as designers so far..... Keith is okay...but ugh! The rest are all in the middle for me right now....although the funny blond guy does some nice work as well.
-
Goldfinger, From Russia With Love, Dr. No.
Songs: Goldfinger and Diamonds are Forever
I liked the George Lazenby movie, too.....but as DRELMORE said, once Connery left.... I lost interest as well.
-
I happened to tune into BB the other night. Dr. Will's speech was absolutely hilarious. Of course, if he really wanted to, he could just demand to be let out of the house at any given time, couldn't he?
Any houseguest can just walk out the door, but they can't go back in and I don't know what that does to their contractual obligations.
I read that BB is considered a soap opera and not a competition..that's why the producers can mess with it so much. Does anyone know if that's true?
-
Congrats BK on your posting milestone!!!
-
MBarnum....I like Dr. Will. I didn't used to, but I find his attitude a refreshing change from all the serious plotting. He's playing the game, just not the same way. His throw me in the briar patch seems to be working......
I can easily live without Jase
-
Back from a shortish morning walk...got to get my legs back under me after the torrid heat of the past week or so.
I walked on Monday and nearly perspired myself into a puddle the rest of the day. The humidity was only 83%. Normally, it's below 60%...so I probably overdid it a tad.
I, too, can live without Jase. He's blown his game, IMO.
I don't know...color me "bored with the doctor". I find him all too transparent.
He truly isn't doing anything but talking trash...which is all he did the first time. Bottom line: He takes none of it seriously, whereas the rest seem to take it too seriously. I suspect that's the charm most people admire. Will is the center of his own universe. Mike "Boogie" is his lackey (and I don't know what Ericka sees in Boogie...but then she was serious with "Robert" from her own season. I think she suffers from low self-esteem, pesonally).
I say give the doctor the axe and let the splinters fly.
They need to do "something" to make the show more interesting. Danielle better step up her game.
And if they introduce any new players into the mix, let them introduce "Ivette" from Season 6 -- I'd love to see the sparks fly with that.
-
Printed out the first thirty-one pages of the new book and will hand them off to my muse Margaret today.
-
Congrats, Bk, on your new plateau.
-
Once again, in BK's honor, here's Nirvana with their hit "Plateau."
Nirvana
Plateau
Many a hand has scaled the grand old face of the plateau
Some belong to strangers and some to folks you know
Holy ghosts and talk show hosts are planted in the sand
To beautify the foothills and shake the many hands
There's nothing on the top but a bucket and a mop
And an illustrated book about birds
You see a lot up there but don't be scared
Who needs action when you got words
When you've finished with the mop then you can stop
And look at what you've done
The plateau's clean, no dirt to be seen
And the work it took was fun
There's nothing on the top but a bucket and a mop
And an illustrated book about birds
You see a lot up there but don't be scared
Who need action when you got words
Well the many hands began to scan around for the next plateau
Some said it was in Greenland and some in Mexico
Others decided it was nowhere except for where they stood
But they were all just guesses, wouldn't help you if they could
-
Hey "in Bk's honor, here's Nirvana" almost rhymes.
-
What oh WHAT!!! is going to get a designer kicked off PROJECT RUNWAY next week? And who who who will it be?
I fear it's going to be Keith.
He's all over the internet for plagiarizing designs in his portfolio.
-
He's all over the internet for plagiarizing designs in his portfolio.
Ohhhhhhhhh.....well that would do it! ;D
Adelphia goes down for about thirty seconds. So, have to launch AOL. AOL, having lost the signal for thirty seconds, cannot find the signal - EVER - not without restarting the computer. It's unbelievable. I am now going to get an inexpensive 40 gig mini drive, back up everything in my mail folders and then I am paying someone to transfer all my e-mail addresses into both Adelphia and gmail, and then I am, at long last, stopping the madness.
-
Congratulations, BK, on achieving your newest plateau!
-
I don't know why, but I just found this record album to be most interesting.
(http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4569/190/320/Organ%20Fascination.jpg)
From the look on her face, is it fascination or envy?
:o :o :o :o :o :o :o
I couldn't see the record album in question!
Yes, you must escape AO-Hell!
MBarnum-thanks for the cute kitty link. :)
-
DRLaura-seems you have two shooters now, oh my. Are you afraid to go out?
-
Hey did anybody who watches SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE see Heidi and benji last night? I knew they would be good, but they were really wonderful. I think another pair i would like to see is benji/allison. And i can't remember if we've seen travis/allison. I'm guessing that ryan/ivan and natalie/donyelle will be the bottoms.
-
I was actually enjoying DR Will until he gave up so early on that competition...but I suppose that is part of his plan...I know I was certainly proud of Chicken George!
I disliked Jase when he was on during his previous season, but liked that he was being a bit more subdued...he was acting a bit childish last night, however.
All in all I am enjoying this season more then I thought I would, despite the fact that I don't care much for most of the contestants.
-
Thanks DR Jane,
I was wondering if anyone had even looked at the kitty film clip! It made me smile and laugh!
-
Re: big brother.
I like Will and want him to stay. I don't like him as much this year, since he will surely battle my favorite player janelle. But i think he is hysterical. Hopefully tonight they will be able to show something very funny that happened on the feeds (all the houseguests were taking roles doing the last veto ceremony).
-
Agree completely about MOMMIE DEAREST which is why I didn't indulge in the most recent issue.
-
No YOUNGBLOOD today, DRMATTH, I fear it must be done again. I am so sorry....that your good deed is turning into such a chore.
What's so infuriating is that it didn't reach you, but it also didn't come back to me. You'd think with two addresses, it would find its way SOMEWHERE! Oy!
-
I finally watched Tuesday night's RESCUE ME. A funny episode and less scheming than usual, so I enjoyed it.
-
I watched (and mainly suffered through) THE ARISTOCRATS. No, the filthiness didn't bother me; it bored me. More interesting were the ways they tore the philosophy of the joke down to try to figure out what made it funny. Also, the variations on the punch line were interesting. But none of it made me laugh much.
At least I can say that I've seen it.
-
And then I finished off the third disc in the MEDIUM box. This was the one where an ill Allison dreams herself into a 1960s sitcom about married mind readers. I liked this episode a lot when I first saw it and enjoyed seeing it again today.
-
Somewhere between here and there....someone must be enjoying James and Suzanne and sipping a cocktail. 8)
-
I have PETER PAN cued up on the DVD player ready to be shown tonight.
And we're doing dinner early tonight which will help keep the evening from running so late.
-
Somewhere between here and there....someone must be enjoying James and Suzanne and sipping a cocktail. 8)
I guess it would be crass of me to hope they choke on the olive. Or pearl onion. Or cherry. ::)
-
I read about DR Ron's cool temperatures, and I'm SO envious. Currently, it's 91 with humidity so high that the leaves on the trees are sweating. It's AWFUL outside.
-
And it's STILL COOL! The fog is only thinned out a bit...not totally dissipated.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,,,,,,,,,,,
-
Got to get offline now to be ready to receive guest(s).
WBBL.
-
Meanwhile, I'm totally spent. The week has caught up to me. The days of intense heat, some intense googling (for work) and making telephone calls to real estate developers attempting to build a database for a project that's about to be announced...very exhausting mentally.
So...I'm unwinding as I type...not voluntarily, either. It's happening at its sole discretion and I'm just along for the ride.
Am taking tomorrow off!
-
I guess it would be crass of me to hope they choke on the olive. Or pearl onion. Or cherry. ::)
LoL....at some of the dialog, no doubt.... ;D
-
Sole discretion.....aren't those made by Dr. Scholl?
-
Back from the tech meeting. I must now think about food because I am STARVING!
-
BK, I've a friend who has been putting every album I have on CD. I'm currently listening to one he just dubbed LAINIE KAZAN...LOVE IS LAINIE. One of the cuts is They Don't Give Medals to Yesterday's Heroes. Nice, but not nearly as nice as Mr. Haines' version.
I'm so in the mood for a good Mexican meal at Casa Vega, and if Pogue still lived here I'd try to rope him in, but alas I can find on adventurous soul to eat there.
-
If I were still there, I'd go.
-
Instead I ate CRAP from Gelson's - so BORED of that stuff. Three chicken tenders and some macaroni and beef (very small portion) - don't know how many calories that adds up to, but, with the jog and all, it can't add up to all that much so maybe I'll get something to chew on later.
-
BK, you keep complaining about the crap you get from Gelson's. Why do you keep going there, if you don't like the food they prepare there?
Our deli section, in it's pre-prepared and packaged goods, has a breakdown on all of it's packages on contents and nutritional value. I'm pretty sure this is by national law. Double-check the packages you purchased, the calorie details should be there (I hope).
-
Der Brucer is rummaging through the kitchen. He finally decided to run a wrecking ball through our refrigerator, and is cleaning up the damage before any of the green furry things can hide again.
What this means is, I'm going to have to get going on dinner pretty soon. Steaks tonight, with baked taters and a wedge of iceberg lettuce nicely dressed. Tomorrow, another attempt at fried chicken. I've come across a couple of better recipies, which should give us a better crust. Details later, when I get them the proper tryout.
-
The Gelson's deli is all freshly prepared foods - no calorie labels. It's not crap, really, but I've just eaten so much of it this year that it's all crap to me.
-
Back from the office, where the air conditioning wasn't working, so they had gone out and bought a few extra fans. Fans are not as effective as air conditioning.
-
I'm a big fan of air conditioning - is that an oxymoron?
-
Wsan't there a TV special years ago called I'M A FAN? I think Georga Engel and Dick Van Dyke were on it.
-
Speaking of Georga Engel,
SPOILER WARNING RE DROWSY CHAPERONE :)
how does she get spat on eight times a week in DROWSY CHAPERONE's spit takes without getting sick? When they do the calls for the road company, do they have to specify "you'll be spat on eight times a week?"
-
Oy vey, was that a spoiler regarding DROWSY CHAPERONE? I'd better go back and put a spoiler warning.
-
I'm havin' a spittin' frenzy!
-
What I want to see on DVD is "The Uninvited" with Ray Milland.
It's amazing to me that it's not out yet.
Maybe it was out, but then it vanished!
-
Greetings from beautiful Omaha, Nebraska.
-
Omaha...where the steaks come from.
-
I have PETER PAN cued up on the DVD player ready to be shown tonight.
And we're doing dinner early tonight which will help keep the evening from running so late.
If the evening runs late, perhaps he will have to stay over!
[/b] ;)
-
I ate a little bit of candy to assuage my sweet tooth. And that will be that for today's meal. More than reasonable, calorie-wise, but not what I wanted at all. I think that after tomorrow night's cabaret show I shall try to go somewhere fun.
-
Yesterday I got the e-mail about diapers; today I got one regarding my new power chair, at no cost to me.
And AARP claims they don't sell their mailing lists.
-
Yes Omaha has steaks, now that I think of it, I don't think I've ever had an Omaha steak. They have them in Iowa too,
-
I got one about viagra today...email that is
-
We actually had a very nice "retreat" today. Instead of being in the office working we spent the day at one of our co-workers' home. It was very laid back, and we spent a lot of time eating; but basically we remained focused on work issues.
-
What oh WHAT!!! is going to get a designer kicked off PROJECT RUNWAY next week? And who who who will it be?
We are all agog, simply agog!
-
Just finished watching SYTYCD- Spoiler alert!
Holy cow were we shocked by one of the eliminations. And so was everyone else by the look of things.
-
Good Evening!
-Just to state the obvious - at least here in NYC - It's GROSS outside!
:-\
-
Earlier today Rodzinski and I had an early dinner/snack which consisted of cocktails, frickles, and fried shrimp all from Spanky's. Very yummy. But I will have to work extra hard at the gym.
-
Right now, I think I am going to retire to the bedroom so that I can lounge in its air conditioned coolness.
-
BK, I'll bet DR Cillaliz will be game for pancakes while she's in town.
-
Just finished watching SYTYCD- Spoiler alert!
I just watched the show too. Frankly, with the exception of one of the dancers eliminated tonight, I think any of the remaining dancers being sent home would be a shock. It's just been such a great group of contestants this season. I frankly don't want to see anyone else go home after tonight. They're all just that good.
-
DR Sandra and the family are in Amarillo with car trouble.
-
Hmmm.... Frickles! Love my friend pickles! -And the ones from Spanky's are very good. *Did you try their S'Mores dessert? That's one bowl of gooey goodness!
-
...And during our break tonight, I had thought of heading to "A Salt & Battery" in The Village for dinner, but with the heat and humidity, I actually lost my appetite for hot, fried food. -Never thought that would happen. Truly must have been the heat. ;)
-
DR Jose, do you want to meet in the Village tomorrow for din before your show? How much is the ticket again?
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
I think I've seen most, if not all, of the Bond films. However, none of them particularly stick in my mind. I've always enjoyed them, but they're not something I've 'concentrated' on.
As for my favorite Bond... Sean Connery hands down. He looked the best in swim trunks.
As for theme songs... "Goldfinger" - Loves those horns!; "Nobody Does It Better"; "For Your Eyes Only".
-
DR Jose, do you want to meet in the Village tomorrow for din before your show? How much is the ticket again?
Hmm... I have to be at the theatre around 6:15 to go over some stuff... So, we could meet at 5:00-ish for dinner if that's not too early for you. The show will be done by 8:15, so we could always sup afterwards too.
*And I need to know your seating preference so that I can put a "Reserved" sign down on a seat for you. :)
As for the price of the ticket... You will be my guest this time, DR elmore.
**And be sure to dress "lightly"... (see one of my upcoming posts).
-
Vixmom, we miss you!
-
Well I'm back!!!
-
This new job is crazy busy...I got to the office today at 8:15 Am and left at 8:45 PM... no breaks
-
I am looking forward to meeting Cillaliz - I gather she will be calling me tomorrow.
-
Anybody like to give me a quick update about what I should know since it will take me a while to catch up... births? weddings? Lotto wins? No bad news I hope.
-
Oh, yes.. As for tonight's performance of Dear Edwina...
We spent the afternoon doing a run-thru and taking care of the tech elements - which, thankfully, are very minimal for the show. Unfortunately, due to the extreme heat and humidity outside, the A/C system inside the theatre basically broke half-way through the run-through. At first I thought I was heating up from nerves, but then when I "felt" that my keyboard was starting to 'sweat' - and when I looked at the cast "drenched" on stage - I realized that something was wrong. Well, as soon as the run was finished, we did indeed find out that the A/C system got a bit overloaded and shut down. Thankfully, we had some fans, and as soon as they turned off the stage lights, the temp in the theatre dropped a good 15 degrees.
The A/C was back up and working by the time the performance started, but since it had gone out for a time earlier, the theatre never fully "recovered". *They're leaving the A/C on overnight tonight, and, hopefully, that will help retain enough chill in the air for tomorrow night's performance. However...
We had a wonderful show tonight. We had an almost-full audience, and everyone's energy was running high. And, technically, tonight's performance was only our second run-through of the show, and for a second run, it went very well. -I even felt very comfortable and confident (almost a bit surprisingly so).
Just two more to go...
*And from what I understand, tomorrow night is sold out, and Saturday's matinee is very near sold out too.
:)
-
Congratulations to Jose!!
-
and plateau congratulations to BK!
-
*And I have to say that I'm enjoying working with everyone. We basically put this presentation together in about 20 hours, and for 20 hours... Well, I can only imagine what we could get done with another 20 hours. :)
And the piece itself is very smart and fun. It truly is a "Kids Musical" for children and adults. Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich have accomplished that rare feat: writing a children's show that does not talk down to children, and manages to entertain the adults in the audience too.
-And Marcy and Zina have been there to help guide all of us along the way. And Zina's helpful musical hints have been invaluable to me - especially since I've also just learned this show in the past 20 hours of rehearsals like everyone else has. -Well, I was even out of rehearsal for ten of those hours!
*And I really am feeling like I need to make a donation to the Northwestern University Alumni Association. Yet another alumnus, Jen Bender, our director, took a chance and brought me on board for this project. And it turns out my name came up when she was having dinner with fellow alumni, Brad Haak (my conductor for Lestat), and Curtis Moore (the composer of Triangle) a few weeks ago. I know I've always like Chicago for some reason. :)
-
BK - Congrats on reaching your new plateau!
* I wonder if it's possible to keep track of just "how fast" you've reached plateau? -Any statisticians out there? ;)
-
DR PennyO - Congrats to you too!
*Oh... It looks like I may be heading out LA-LA-Land for a week or two in early November. If you want to do another reading of the revised and updated version of Jewish Thighs... ;-) -I'll keep you posted.
-
Hi, vixmom!
:)
*At the very least, I hope your new office has very good air-conditioning. ;)
-
And one for Marcy!
-
And for "Project Runway"...
One of my roommates is actually doing some work for the P/R firm that's handling "Project Runway". Whenever he goes to the office, he's always been tempted to take a peek at the list of the "auf'd" contestants. Thankfully, he prefers to be surprised each week as we all watch the episodes together.
-
And also for Zina!
-
Now that we have a working scanner, and I watched Skip use it a couple of times, I may have to venture forth with some scanning efforts.
-
FJL I am looking forward to August 20!!!
-
Jose, do keep us posted re November. PennyO's trying to get funding for us to do the show after the first of the year here in LA and other places - November might be a good time for a real pro read-through at a theater for a couple of performances.
-
Caught up on yesterday Car congratulations to MBarnum.
FJL has Starfighter had its run in Washington yet?
-
vixmom - Yes, we're very much looking forward to the mini-HHW-NY gathering here on Aug. 20.
-
Will do.
I'm actually just thinking of coming out for a week or two of vacation, and as it turns out, some friends and relatives are all having birthdays, anniversaries, etc. around the same time. Plus, I'm just due for another trip back West. If I can work some work into my itinerary, that may not be such a bad thing. It will keep me off the Strip.
;D
-
*Oh - And Rattlestick is actually looking into presenting smaller musicals now in addition to it's regular roster of new plays, so... Hmm...
-
Wow! A delicious dinner and a very full night of movies/video.
At dinner, I had the dish the restaurant (Tryon House) is known for - fried squash. Superb. I was SUCH a pig!
-
Will do.
Well, if I can manage to get on an early train back to NYC that day, I may be able to make the gathering too. We'll see. It will all depend how the rehearsal schedule lines up.
-
I doubt that!
Ah, ye know me so well, DR TCB. ;)
-
We got back and watched PETER PAN. First, this 1960 color videotaping looks pretty miserable on HDTVs of today. Low resolution (though they did expand the sound to stereo on the DVD). The show is very old fashioned but still with charm and wonderful tunes. Peter certainly gets the lion's share of them!
I don't think watching it dissuaded Frank from wanting to audition. I hate to see him get rejected for a part he's so obviously not right for, but let the chips fall where they may. The auditions are in two weeks.
-
vixmom, in response to your other question: The presentation for Last Starfighter at the Village Theatre in the "Seattle area" (Issaquah) is on Friday evening, August 4th. And there's also a panel discussion on Saturday afternoon, August 5th, on the possibly volatile subject (because some poeple out there just don't like the trend) of MOVIES TO MUSICALS. BTW, that panel is scheduled to include the original screenwriter of the LAST STARFIGHTER film, Jonathan Betuel.
We were joined near the end of the show by best friend John (who's done several shows with Frank). After PETER PAN, Frank went home, but John and I watched RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. I hadn't seen it in a very long time, and I was astonished at the beauty of this transfer. The picture is as gorgeous as a newly minted film. Couldn't be better. The sound doesn't match the picture, of course, as they've tried to add additional surrounds to the mix. It's OK for a movie more than 20 years old, but its sound can't compare to modern action films. However, the sound is nothing to be ashamed of; it just doesn't quite match the splendor of the visuals.
Do I take it that this will not be your first encounter with Mr. Betuel?
-
Jose - That's great to hear that you may be able to make it on the 20th! Hope the scheduling works out.
-
We ended the eveing with the film version of VICTOR/VICTORIA, another movie I hadn't seen in a long time. Grand getting to see these treasures after such a long time away from them.
-
vixmom, you have been missed.
-
I recorded GREY'S ANATOMY and CSI for viewing tomorrow. I'll have my usual Friday errands to run, but otherwise should have a lot more time to watch things tomorrow.
-
TCB - Jonathan Betuel came to see the musical twice at the Storm Theatre; the second time, he came with the director of the original film, Nick Castle. Both of them also came to the closing night party, and we took it as a very positive sign that both of them stayed until the very end of the party.
Well, that's a relief. When you said possibly volatile I was worried.
-
Thank you, as have all of you been missed by me.
Are you feeling better these days?
I caught up on two days ao and it seems congratulations are in order for Elmore, JRand and TCB!! and now I mus to bed!! good night dear friends!
-
How scary! I was channel surfing and I found out, THAT 70'S SHOW is still on television. It is kind of sad. Half the cast is gone and the rest of them keep carrying on as if they were the original stars, rather than the second bananas.
-
Oh no, I meant that the subject of movies to musicals was "possibly volatile." I'll go back and edit my post above to make that clear. There are lots of people who seem to find the trend of movie screenplays being made into musicals a not so good trend, to say the least.
-
Thank you, as have all of you been missed by me.
Are we expecting?
-
I know that a lot of people at this site enjoy it, but I just don't find any humor in MY NAME IS EARL. Jason Lee is a nice looking young man, but I still don't find him funny on this show.
-
Well, its final season was the one just concluded. It won't be back in the fall except in syndicated reruns.
I like MY NAME IS EARL very much. Randy is by far my favorite character in the show.
-
It's after midnight here, and I'm off to bed.
Good night.
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]Page Eight Dance!!![/move]
-
And now, good night for real!
:D
-
:-\
Just saw the forecast for the next couple of days in NYC...
Hot, Humid... Hotter and More Humid... -There was even a "question" of a heatwave...
:-\
-
You can tell a lot about a person based on which "Heatwave" song they think of when a heatwave is mentioned.
-
Hmmmm....re:TDC....I was thinking said person was the spitter rather than the spittee! But I could be wrong.
Your ICE WATER, madame!
-
Watching THE VIPS....will suffer through THE SANDPIPER.....so I can see THE COMEDIANS
-
We "Tried" "My Name is Earl". Totally unfunny.
"Arrested Development" was a winner though. I shall miss the lunacy.
-
Well... I actually don't have to be anywhere "early" in the morning, but I do have to move my car, so...
Goodnight.
-
*Johnny Depp is on "Letterman" right now... Hmm... I guess since he's been doing the "Pirates" movies and living over in Europe (Scotland, England?) he's sort of forgotten his "accent". Well, at least I can't figure out "how" he's talking right now. ;)
-
mmmm "Heatwave". Linda Ronstadt's version of the Martha & The Vandella's song.
-
DR JRand55, have you been watching WHAT'S MY LINE?
I think that in the last few episodes aired this week (they seem to be from 1962) that Dorothy Kilgallen has been hitting the sauce...and some guy walked up from the audience right in the middle of the "mystery guest" bit and tried to announce something from the stage in front of Melina Mouceri and John Daily...Daily quickly called for security and they escorted the nutcase off the stage...it was certainly a strange episode.
-
Oh, and Victore Borge was the guest panelist...I had no idea what a funny, hilarious man he was! I was cracking up!
-
*Johnny Depp is on "Letterman" right now...
Perhaps I'll watch Letterman tonight to see if I can find out what this Johnny Depp guy is about. I don't get it.
-
Dear reader Laura, how are we doing on the latest story?
-
I've read through it the first time already. I like to wait a few days before reading a second time. I catch more things the second time that way.
-
I am watching Letterman, waiting for this Johnny Depp guy. "Stump the Band" is on.
-
So I am watching this Depp guy, and I don't get it.
This may shock some of you, but I actually saw part of a Johnny Depp movie once. It was the scissors one, and I found it disturbing and turned it off.
-
They're making a movie of Sweeney Todd???
