Well, you've read the notes, the notes were filled with love sweet love, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're not feeling loved and they will not budge.

Thank you Tomovz for your good wishes. It wasn't an easy one to make but I need out of here and start somewhere fresh. I got friends to live with in Phoenix and there is sure alot more to do down there than up here. At least they have an art musem. I'm excited and scared at the same time. It's going to be quite an adventure.

I don't know if I can comment about love right now. My concept and definition of what love means and what comes along with it is all screwed up. Unfortunately, I'm kinda in a place when I have to break up with my lover just to better myself, I think I love him, but I won't really know for sure until he's gone. Love is a strange thing...

And the word of the day is: ABINITIO!
For starters, it's Latin, and it's two words - ab initio.

And there's too many vowels for me to even think of an anagram, unless I try something like A BIO IN IT, but it's too late for me to come up with a sentence using that and the word of the day, not even if I take it from the top.

Buster loves me.  He really does.  I know it because I can see it in his eyes.  Sure, it's puppy love, but it counts.

Either that, or he's just got these really great-looking eyes.

In any case, I'm really glad Buster is part of my life.

Besides, he's a lot more fun to pet than der Brucer.

Sorry, der B, that's just the way it is.

Love

I certainly distinguish between "loving" and "being in love". Each is wonderful.

If you need to ask if you're in love, you're not!

That "being in love" mixture of passion, tenderness, excitement, suddenly feeling more for someone else's happiness than for your own is magical.  Maybe it's different for each of us. I know it's not just lust!
Title: Re:LOVE
Post by: Tomovoz on September 14, 2006, 04:21:44 AM
Love as an overused term. I guess we all use it to mean different things at times.  Saying "I love you" is not however the same as loving ice cream, loving the last Sondheim score and loving your favourite TV show. I doubt anyone thinks so. We are just lazy in our choice of words.

Morning all!

Dear TomovOz I bet your getting really excited about your trip!  I just wish I could have made it up to me you and Colin.  I hope you both have a blast!

DR Elmore, I miss you too.  Give everyone a hug for me when you see them.

I had to go for bloodwork yesterday.  Nothing bad just the yearly check up.  I didn't make it to the vet last night like I planned.  It was drizzle raining and to be quite honest, I was just to tired to deal with it.  We will go on Friday evening.

I think I may have taken care of problem.  I gave the two a dose of an over the counter wormer and I haven't seen them any more.

Hello Danise.  I'm beginning to realise it is really happening!
Title: Re:LOVE
Post by: Danise on September 14, 2006, 04:58:13 AM
I know how that feels!  :)

Love.  I've never really known it in the romance way.  Only as in love for my mother, my father,  my animals, my friends.  I was so desperate back in my 30's thinking that I would never find the one I'd spend my life with,  I would have fell over myself if anyone had showed  the least bit of interest.  Once I hit my 40's and realized it never was going to happen and I needed to face understand that it never will happen, I got over it.    I'm ok with it now.

Love needs a recipe.

You know, so we can "make love."

Or, like, we can use the word "love" instead of "like," like, all the time!

(Wait a sec, that makes that last sentence translate into "Or, love, we can use the word "love" instead of "love", love, all the time," which doesn't make sense unless you're trying to sound like Michael Caine in Alfie.)

Suspected Montreal gunman called himself 'Angel of Death'()

I  don't know if anyone heard about the mass killing in Montreal yesterday. Very sad. Dawson College 20 students were shot and one has passed. The shooter was either shot by the police after he took aim at the them or he shot himself. (Conflicting reports)

He was part of the goth sub culture. He wrote on a blog that he was depressed (took quizes). I am sure a lot more will come out.

My parent's home is one block from the school and the whole area was shut down to traffic. The subway was also shut down as one of the station is built underneath. The whole area is a busy residential business area. All very sad. It is connected to a large shopping, business and residential area called Alexis Nihon Plaza which was shut down

The killer was a time bomb waiting to go off. I have a link to the article written in Globe and mail (National Paper) The Montreal Gazette, yahoo

Good morning, all!  DR Danise, I hope to see you in Manhattan soon.  If your ears burn in early October, you'll know we're talking about how much we miss you.

I wasn't back till quite late, then I watched the taped PROJECT RUNWAY and went to bed.  I slept in and I have to be at a sound check in an hour.  We run the show this afternoon and open tonight.  I love the show, but I'm afraid it will not be a solid first performance.  I hope I am wrong because I'd love to see good things happen with his piece.

TOD:  I just used the word love, as in "care deeply."  As to other definitions of the word, I've been communicating with a friend over the word's  deceptive qualities in human relationships, not to mention our desire to know we are loved and to be loved by others.  It is, to me, the most terrifying word in the vocabulary

TOD - Yikes!  That's as scary as bats in the house.

There are people in my life I love very much. They are my friends and family.  I know there is love if we can have big disagreements or fights and then regain the closeness of our friendship (I'm not talking physical), not out of convenience, necessity or guilt, but because it's what we both really want.

I spent years wanting romantic love.  Romantic love may just be an illusion, but it's not such a bad illusion to believe in. I think I've seen glimpses of it from time to time in my life, but never really had it happen to me.  Guess it just isnt' meant to be this time around.

I know little Boo loves me when she curls up around my neck and purrs in the middle of the night.....or is she just cold?   I choose to believe it's love.

Dear Esteemed, puzzled, loved, vexed, and Abinitio-licious BK --

I'll be thinking of you around noon today and envying your adventure down to the street of Olvera.  I sure hope some of the food is still homemade and good!

And WOW ..... didn't you pose just about the most confusing, wonderful, baffling, rewarding, puzzling, and fulfilling topics that you possibly could !!?!???!!

Hi DR jh --  We will also hold good thoughts and vibes for your move here to the "Valley Of The Sun" as it is called.  Yea, like you wouldn't notice that there is sun, especially by around July and August when you roast your butt off here!  But it really is a good city, and with a fair number of things to do depending on what all you enjoy.  I've always been glad that we are a large enough population base to at least get the "A tour" companies of the touring shows.  Phoenix also has a pretty cool new main library building, some really good local and alternative theatre, and you can always go line-dancing with cowboys at Charlie's !

Say "hi" when you get here.

Good morning!

It's a grand and beautiful day here after the gloom and damp of yesterday. The airport only recorded 1.5 inches of rain, but I sure could have sworn it would have been more.

Today, beautiful blue sky with puffy white clouds and moderate temperatures. The temps will be increasing throughout the weekend, but we get to keep our cool nights, and that makes me happy.

As in past years, I won't be watching this season's competition. With MY NAME IS EARL/THE OFFICE on NBC and UGLY BETTY on ABC, and SMALLVILLE on CW, I have a full plate on Thursdays at 8 p.m.

I'm up, I'm up, and I've been up since nine and already the day is a whirlwind.

I love all the thoughts on love so keep them coming so I can keep loving them.

The word abinitio was used in the lyric of a song - I recorded the song on an album.  What was the song, what was the album?

The first e-mail I opened this morning was from my publisher - it was a pdf of my galley.  I'm happy to say, it's perfect and as soon as Grant takes a quick look, we'll approve it.   Which means all that's left is to see the dust jacket proof and the softcover cover proof, approve those (hopefully sans fixes) and then we're good to go.

Howdy, Bruce! I'm back, I'm back. Staying at my sister Rikki's place until sunday - she is going outa town to do her annual Grape Stomp, and I'm taking care of her delicious little dawg.

Looking forward to our Read next Wednesday. Wanna get together at some point over the weekend to refrangulate whatever might need refrangulation before the peeps actually read-thru?

Love -- I think Falling In Love is something chemical, which comes and goes with hormone levels and music, etc. Loving is a decision. It is how some people manage to stay together forever ("or what's forever for?") and others decide it ain't worth it, and move on. True Love takes commitment and decision and some effort at overriding Ego and Being Right... Ya wanna be right? Ya wanna be "happy"? Yer choice, always. And when the going gets rough, and both parties experience the Crisis of Confidence at the same time, how strong is Resolve, how strong is the mutual vision of the Ideal, in order to get past the obstacles, and stay on the Path to the mutual goal... something like that. I have had the strange and difficult and glorious example of my parents to inspire me.

My brother and I got my nephew settled in Santa Cruz yesterday. wow, how beautiful is the setting! Little RV Park, on a gorgeous lagoon, about a ten minute walk to a beautiful beach. I took the RV to have the propane tank filled and get air in the tires (my brother drove it up from LA on flat tires...). while they were at the University getting lots of stuff accomlished, I hooked up the sewer line and the electric and water. A neighbor watched me spazzing around and came by to help with the sewer line, and he lit the ilot for the hot water heater for me. Then i went to Trader Joe's and got groceries to take the kid through the next couple of days - just some staples: mayonnaise, peanut butter, a loaf of bread, some eggs, butter, frozen enchiladas and green beans, tea bags, stuff like that. And a house-warming gift of a bottle of his favorite libation - Johnny Walker, Black. And off he goes into this next phase of his life.

Re: last night's Dancing with the star results.

I don't mind that tucker is gone since he was the worst dancer. But there were some things that surprised me. How would willa (3rd place with the judges) end up in the bottom 2. And how could sara (the country singer is that her name?) not be in the bottom 3?

Will must have gotten the lowest votes. And jerry springer and the country singer must have gotten a lot of votes.

I believe the system is the same as last year. You get points based on your position (not score) and that is added to your ranking from the fans. So really the first placed person (mario this week) could not have gone home (i think judges votes count for more in a tie).

I thought will was quite good and has lots of potential. I wonder if people are voting for who they are fans of previously. Or who they think is the best dancer.

As for the shootings in montreal yesterday.  Well of course it is all over the news here. Actually my sister's husband was eating lunch at the mall across the street from Dawson cegep WHILE THE SHOOTINGS WERE HAPPENING. So he could see the people running into the street.

I think around 20 were hurt, one girl dead. I think most (or even all) of the others are expected to live. I think they are going to update that at 4pm.

The police entered the school and shot the gunman. I believe he had 3 guns.

The entire montreal paper is page after page of stories. Really sad.  It brings back really bad memories of the 1989 Polytechnique shootings here. I had just started university at the time. And i remember that december a gunman killed many women at one of the french universities.  And then also in 1992 during the summer, a professor at my university went on a rampage (after not getting tenure) and killed 4 professors.

Really scary stuff.

I spent the afternoon with two mediocre movies. I started off with the remake of ALFIE. Wonderful actors in this (Jane Krakowski, Marisa Tomei, Sienna Miller, Susan Sarandon, Dick Latessa, Omar Epps, Jefferson Mays), but Jude Law just doesn't have the cocky charm (for me) that Michael Caine did, and, as I've said before, there was no real reason to remake what was already so well done the first time.

It wasn't a bad film, and there were moments of emotion that I kind of liked. But I kept thinking the entire time I watched it that I'd rather be watching the 1966 version. I guess if you've never seen it, this one was OK.

Next up came FANTASTIC FOUR. As comic book movies go, it'd not be among the best. Johnny Storm irritated the heck out of me, and I found the love story kind of lame. Emotions on display were very one dimensional and as variable as the wind, but I guess for younger kids, this might be an OK version of the comic book. (I never was into Marvel Comics so I can't say if it's an accurate depictuon of that world.)

I read that there will be a sequel to this one. Give me X-MEN or BATMAN any day.

Re: last night's Dancing with the star results.

The system they announced is 50% of the score is the fans vote. If you go to the website each person can vote 11 times.  Seems like a pretty crazy system to me.  I don't know if there's a limit on the text messaging, but that costs money, so I'm sure that would be self-limiting at some point

I wonder if people are voting for who they are fans of previously. Or who they think is the best dancer.

I think it's a mix of both.  I thought Jerry Springer was a lousy dancer, but he was very entertaining to watch and looked like he was genuinely having lots of fun. He just wants to learn to dance so he can dance at his daughter's wedding...how do you not keep him around til he can dance? Besides he's Jerry Springer, he has lots of crazy fans who will keep voting for him. I do think he was genuinely shocked that he wasn't voted out.

I think they do a great job of casting to get the mix they get. The show is a lot more fun than if it was just who's the best dancer or if everyone was a good dancer.  Plus there is lots of room for some of them to improve.

Re the TOD... This isn't right on topic, but addresses it and is well worth reading, in any case...

The Dali Lama's Instructions for Life

1.  Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

2.  When you lose, don't lose the lesson.

3.  Follow the three R’s:
Respect for self
Respect for others and
Responsibility for all your actions.

4.  Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.

5.  Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.

6.  Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

7.  When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

8.  Spend some time alone every day.

9.  Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.

10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

11. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time.

12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.

13. In disagreements with loved ones deal only with the current situation. Don't bring up the past.

14. Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality.

15. Be gentle with the earth.

16. Once a year, go someplace you've never been before.

17. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.

18. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

19. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

Evening folks.

I've been looking forward to DWTS--It one of the few shows I make time to watch (along with Lost and Boston Legal).

I have TIVO catch them for me and then I watch them in parts when I have time.  I did see most o DWTS the first night.  I'm not suprised on who was voted off.  He did sit in a chair for most of the dance.

Gotta run!  Have a good evening!

But there was no auto-da-fe!

We had an all-morning Town Hall Meeting for my agency in a nearby burg.

Afterward three of us went to a little cafe called "Creasian"...very nice.  Tempura asparagus, followed by Szechuan chicken (3-alarm variety) with Jasmine rice.

Yummy.

The NYMF should call itself "pissing in the wind" productions:  we had an 11 AM band call for set for an 11:30 sound check.  Around 1:00 PM the asshole sound man showed up, there was little to deal with in balancing the band and too much time was spent on electronic drums (WHY???).  By 3 PM he was gone the soundboard is now run by a young lady who has to deal with 8 bodymikes and a hostile orchestrator.  At 6:00 they were still teching the show.  We have yet to do a full runthrough with the band, the sound is screwed, and we open tonight.  Color me pissed.

And scared.  On the positive side, the producers of our show are great, and the tech staff supplied by NYMF are friendly and cooperative.  Back to the show!

Thursday evening greetings!  My drive to Columbus yesterday was a snap and I was there in time to hear my boss and a coworker give most of their presentation in the session before mine.  My co-presenter and I had only 16 people, due largely to competing topics that were more glitzy.  Went out to a nice dinner at Don Pablo's with my 2 bosses and a couple of others.  I crashed early and slept better than expected in the most uncomfortable bed ever.

This morning, when I arrived at the breakfast table, my manager Travis said, "Ginny, we have news."  Last month, I'd helped him craft a proposal and he'd received word late last night that Dayton Metro Library is one of 12 systems awarded grants for health and wellness programming for urban teens and their families  ;D

I attended sessions this morning on memoirs and audio books, had a nice lunch, didn't win one of the 2 MP3 players given as door prizes (but a friend did, so it's OK), had a latte happy hour at Stauf's (http://www.staufs.com/home.html) with 3 other Dayton librarians, and drove home amid many, many semi trucks.

That's absolutely correct.  Ms. Grace bulldozed her on national TV, demanded to know how she could have LET this thing happen to her OWN child.

She was, allegedly, deeply in grief over her child's abduction that Grace's nastiness sent her into a tailspin of despaire.

Nancy Grace is a disgrace, not only to the once-dignified profession of news commentary, but to the female gender!

It is a shame the English language has too few ways to express love.  There are so many people I love on all different levels who are special to me and sometimes those levels sadly or happily fluctuate.

And then there is my best friend, that guy I’m married to who still makes my heart skip a beat when he walks into the room…..  I certainly wasn’t looking for love at seventeen, but once it found me I knew I was making a commitment for life.

DR George, my washing machine is 26 years old, and even with a model that old , I can control the amount of water I use to wash a load of clothes. Unless a washer is absolute bottom of the line that turns on and off and has a spin cycle, I'll bet a new washer will allow you to control the amount of water for a load of clothes.

And I KNOW my washer is living on borrowed time. Can you believe it's that old and I've never had a second of trouble with it. Of course, now that I've said that, it will explode on SUnday when I do my next load of laundry.

For the last hour of the evening, I put in AN EVENING WITH MARLENE DIETRICH, the 1972 taping of her London concert. For fans of Marlene, we are SO lucky to have this souvenir of her concert program in this good condition. Yes, the videotape has some video dropouts and an occasional flutter, but for archival purposes, it looks very nice and a thousand percent better than the grainy videotape I had of the last 20 minutes of the concert. It's even stereo sound (and the sound level was set WAY TOO HIGH).

At this stage of her life, she looked just a bit unsteady (she lost her balance trying to step back and bow after one number), and at one point she seemed disoriented and tottered off the stage for a moment while the cameras just rolled. Still, I'm so happy to have this.

At this point, I'm thinking of having a Marlene weekend, at least in part. There are a couple of films in THE GLAMOR COLLECTION that I haven't gotten to. I have SHANGHAI EXPRESS on laserdisc that I haven't seen in ages. And I might pull out DESTRY RIDES AGAIN, THE SCARLET EMPRESS, or WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION for viewing, too.

So, there's a lot to choose from.

(Just saw JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG and STAGE FRIGHT not too long ago, so those won't be options.) I do wish I had RANCHO NOTORIOUS. It's always a fun show. I'll make a DVD-R of it the next time it shows up on the Encore Western channel.

We amazingly had a pretty good show.  It would have been nice if we'd been at tonight's point two days ago, but such is the nature of a lowbudget production.  Luckily we had no major wrecks, the actors were in fine fettle, and the show was outrageously funny and rude and quite moving by the end.  My mighty band acquitted themselves well, and I think by the end of the six performances we'll have a pretty good show.

I saw our missing DR Noel and his wife Joy at intermission, and they seemed to enjoy it.  I asked Noel to come back and I hope that he does.  He looked great.

George Firth was also at the show and seemed to be having a wonderful time; he's a friend of our book writer Blair Fell.

And now to bed.
