Well, you've read the notes, the notes were relaxing and restful, and now it is time for you to post until the relaxed and restful cows come home.

And the word of the day is: DEGUSTATION!

Umm, BK? "...elmore will have everything he needs to being his orchestration"?? ::)
;D
-
I just watched "Adam & Steve" and I thoroughly enjoyed it! There were several laugh out loud moments for me (well, not extremely knee-slappin' funny, but definitely better than a chuckle). One tip, though...if you plan on watching this movie, DO NOT watch the gag reel before hand. You don't want to see what happens out of context!! :o
;)
-
Yes, that's how elmore orchestrates - he is being his orchestration - his orchestration becomes him.
-
Ahhh...I wondered, but that makes perfect sense. :D
-
He is one with his orchestration!
-
He has reached zen!

I am what I am! Good morning, all! The alarm went off at 6:30, and I have a busy busy busy morning. Actually I have a long day, most of it hopefully fun: a trek to Toyland, a dinner with our DR FJL and Skip, a Singing Nun performance. I'll probably hit the performance long enough to insure the sound is okay and then bail. Tomorrow, I hopefully sleep in.

Didn't some of our beautiful HHW ladies run into him in Times Square during last year's visit? If my failing memory recalls correctly, for a while there was a naked lady either working with him or comepeting a few years back. Several DRs will be sorry you didn't post his PLAYGIRL shots!

Yes I will try to post a picture of the cake in the next few days. But just remember I did not decorate it (my mom did).
Now I must get ready to go. I can't believe I have to get ready so early for a noon party. But i need to pick up my brother-in-law at 10:30am so we can pick up the balloons and get to the restaurant.
It's their tradition (here at least) (filipino) to have big birthday parties. So little megan (turning 1) is expecting approximately 100 guests. Oy.
I went over last night and we tried on her birthday dress. OMG i think i will need to post a pic of that too. Cause she looked like a little rollie pollie doll. It was hysterical.
-
Larry - we'll see you at 5. Looking forward to it.
-
Ben - No, I didn't realize when I suggested it that was the weekend of fun doings in Shubert Alley, but I tend to find it a nice place to meet, especially if the weather is good. (That, or the passageway of the Marriott Marquis, if the weather isn't that great.)
Sorry I won't be there for the Saturday and Sunday morning/afternoon activites - mainly because of Rosh Hashanah, and also some prep for rehearsals officially starting that Monday.
-
And the word of the day is: DEGUSTATION!
"For your DEGUSTATION," our waiter said in a prim but mannered tone, "might I suggest the STAID TONGUE en gelee - no cognac or vermouth have been used in it's preperation. Thirty-seven ninety-eight."
"No, thanks," we replied, "Just the thought of it puts our GUTS ON A DIET."
-
Good morning!
I got up bright and early this morning in order to get the gutters in the front of my house cleaned out while it was still cool. I didn't do them in the spring, and they looked horrible. The side and back gutters are small and can be cleaned very quickly, but I didn't do it this morning. I didn't have on the right shoes, and the rungs on the ladder were hurting my feet near the end of the work.
It's going to be mid 80s today, but still in the 60s right now. I'm sitting next to an open window and really enjoying the cool fresh air.
-
Sunday morning greetings! By the time we returned from moving our DS back to college in our 3-car caravan, unloading, touring his building, and taking him and his friend who helped us for Skyline chili and Graeter's ice cream, I was exhausted. Crashed about 9pm.
Didn't some of our beautiful HHW ladies run into him in Times Square during last year's visit?....
Yes, I think it was DR Cillaliz who had an encounter with the cowboy and with a bicycle messenger (not at the same time, though...)
-
I live in Arizona. I know about cowboys. That is no cowboy.
Well, it sure ain't no cowgirl!!!
-
I had a surprise when I brought the ladder around to the front of the house to start my chore this morning. My mailbox was open, and there was a package inside. I took the mail in around 1:45 yesterday afternoon disappointed that I hadn't gotten any packages. So, the mailman must have come back at some point during the afternoon and put in the package (or a neighbor who got the package by mistake may have done it).
It was the Dick Cavett interview DVD set called HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS. So, After SHANGHAI EXPRESS, I'm sure I'll be watching the three hour Katharine Hepburn interview. I remember seeing it when it was first broadcast on consecutive nights back in the 1970s (she was there primarily to publicize THE CORN IS GREEN or was it THE GLASS MENAGERIE?). Years later, Cavett broke it down to five nightly segments, and by then I had a VCR so I taped it. Somehow, that tape got taped over, and for years I've wanted to see it again. Now I'll get my chance. (TCM will be showing it at some point in the coming weeks, too, along with interviews from this box and the previous Cavett set featuring comedians.)

Has the "Naked Cowboy" ever given biograpghical details about himself? Where is he really from? What kind of life did he have before he started doing this?
-
I'll have to play catch-up later. We didn't get back from DC until nearly four in the morning (der Brucer took a couple of strange turns, getting us in some interesting territory near Andrews AFB, and it took all my map-reading skills to get us back on our proper route home), so I set my alarm to just two hours before I have to get to work, rather than my usual three.
Still, I do feel rested.
Everyone, have a shpadoinkle day! (George, at least, will understand.)

Steve Franken was Chatsworth Osborne, Jr - with his mother played by Doris Packer - they were the only two people who could be funnier that Sheila James (as Zelda) on DOBIE GILLIS.....for me.

Even funnier than Maynard G. Krebs.

Maybe I will be able to post from World of Wisdom. :)

Doris Packer is another favorite character actress from the period. Adored her on DOBIE GILLIS, and she made some memorable appearances on THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW, especially handling a celebrity auction, "All the royalities from his book 'Me and My Gall Bladder.' That's you and your gall bladder!"
-
He should work everyday so we can see him. I always thought he would have been as funny as Don Knotts as the replacement for the neighbors on Three's Company. 8)
I didn't like that show much, but I particularly didn't like Don Knotts on it. He was NO replacement for Norman Fell.

Today on TCM is one of my favorite Esther WIlliams films EASY TO LOVE. (This is the one with the big Cypress Gardens finale). I may watch it tonight unless I decide to watch WEDDING CRASHERS on HBO-HD. It's premiering tonight, but I'm not much a fan of Owen Wilson.

WBBL.
-
Maybe not....I don't know... I thought I read that a while back, but can't seem to find it again. I did find this from an interview. He was born in 1977 in Cincinnati Reading this, I was just glad we didn't try to have a conversation:
Jellio: Have I got this straight? Are you two partners now?
[Silence]
Cowgirl: What do you think, Bob? I don't think we're partners.
Cowboy: I'm asked that all day long, naturally, and I'm sure she's probably asked that same question. Again, from my standpoint, I am the Naked Cowboy, and that's really the only thing I can comment on. Naturally, we have the similarity of the name. And the appearance. And, if you want to go with a society-based symbol (note: Here's where I know it's gonna be a long interview.) , it looks like we're doing the same thing. but prior to Naked Cowgirl, there was just Naked Cowboy. And, naturally, in that atmosphere you have, nothing it can be conformed to. In other words, if there's only one, there's no conformity whatsoever. And that's pretty much my thing. If you can live, create, be, do, you know, you can literally not conform to society, but still fit in with society. So you can exercise that whole ego-centric, I want to be somebody, part of your humanity. (Was that a yes or a no...gotta pay more attention.)

Good morning!
Food report: Last night I finally tried the Greek restaurant in my neighborhood (The Great Greek). A hit! Wonderful service, friendly ambiance and - most importantly - the food was superb. We didn't have reservations and the place was filling up (although it was early). So they gave us a table as long as we left by 7:30 - which was no problem because we were going to an 8 PM show. I had the Greek-Style Vegetarian Platter -- which includes yogurt tzatziki, hummus, eggplant , melitzanosalata, tabouli, spinach cheese pie, spanakopita, rice pilaf, fresh vegetable of the day, Greek fassolia beans, feta cheese, fresh tomato and cucumber. (No salami, however.) Needless to say, I couldn't eat half the food. But I tired everything - and everything was totally delish. As we were going to the theater, I couldn't take the leftovers with me. Next time, I'll get a doggie bag.
-
Good mawnin', folks! Today is my brother-in-law's birthday, and we didn't get to a birthday celebration for my sister, his wife, two weeks ago - so I think there might be some sort of b'day bash later today or tonight. These are not Party People, so maybe some barbecue from Wood Ranch or something, shlepped over to their house? Their son just got back last night from his honeymoon in Hawaii - he may have some ideas.

Dear Esteemed, leisurely, and suave BK --
Good morning on a fine Sunday..I hope the day holds rest, reward, and fun for you. And if your lunch plans don't change, I'm sure that you will make the most of the degustation of your salami adventure.
I was shocked yesterday, while reading your posts, to realize that I have never been to 4 and 20 Pies !! And I'm a true pie-holic ! Do you think they are better, equal, or under House of Pies quality? Or maybe just different?

And a Happy Sunday morning hello to all H/Ks and DRs.

Well, this isn't terribly fascinating, but it is a post ........
I just trimmed a few shrubs and bushes in our front yard, threw away a scrap piece of 2x4 that has been laying in the front garden for probably a year, and swept up some very dusty and dried leaves that had blown into one of the garages.
Life is certainly highly paced and on the cutting edge here on the ranch!

I'm back from my first part of the day, and now I have a bit of work to do. While I edited this morning, I listened to SIMPLY SONDHEIM; I know a couple of people on the recording through San Francisco's 42nd Street Moon Company, so I won't say much about the recording. I would have killed to see the great Guy Haines' number because of the laughs and I get great pleasure from Mr Haines' way with a musical phrase and a lyric. Unfortunately, I think there are several voices I didn't particularly enjoy hearing on the recording, one of them being the producer of the event. I do like Steve Rhyne's voice and the young lady who sang "I Remember," and I really enjoyed the band.

May I vent? ...I was working away writing and received an e-mail with the title line "Urgent prayer request"... Didn't recognize the sender, but opened it anyway, thinking I'd better check it out in case it was someone I knew writing from another address. You don't want to ignore a person in trouble. ...So it turns out to be an ad for penis enlargement! Are there no depths to which these a-holes won't sink? (A rhetorical question.)
-
Interesting comments from elmore, many of which I agree with.
I, too, found a couple of the voices marginal (at best).
Is the young lady who sings "Back in Business" also the tap dancer in that number?
I wish there could be a video clip of Guy Haines' number on kritzerland.com.
The show seems to end somewhat abruptly and not with a bang.
-
Had a smashing good time with the video viewing this afternoon.
I began with SHANGHAI EXPRESS. I hadn't seen this in years, and what astonished me was how wonderful the laserdisc looked. I was expecting lots of dirt and spotting and garbage, but it looks like Universal took some pains with this release all those years ago and did a good job with it.
Dietrich, of course, was stunning looking, probably the movie where her glamour and allure are at their zenith (it was certainly the biggest hit of her Von Sternberg films). Clive Brook has the physique for the male lead but what a sad sack he is! I don't think he cracks a smile during the entire film. But what a grand adventure of the old school!
-
Next came EASY TO LOVE. I sure DR JRand would enjoy seeing Carroll Baker's first film (wasn't it?) No doubt you have it already.
The Technicolor was very rich in this film, and the print TCM broadcast looked grand. I wonder if this one isn't going to be part of the Esther WIlliams DVD boxed set due next year. It looks like it's been remastered for such a release.
-
Then I watched the first of the two Katharine Hepburn-Dick Cavett interviews. Both of them were nervous as could be at the start of the interview. Finally, once they got into their rhythm, the conversation flowed beautifully, and I remember at the time being so entranced with her stories, the first time I had heard most of them. Subsequent biographies both in print and on video have covered the ground she covers over and over again, but it was revelatory at the time, for me anyway.
BTW, what she's there to publicize was the American Film Theatre and her film of A DELICATE BALANCE. I had forgotten about all of that. She gave an interview with 60 MINUTES and Morley Safer when she was drumming up an audience for THE CORN IS GREEN.
-
On that first Cavett disc are some Hepburn outtakes in the bonus features which I'll be certain to watch tonight along with the Fred Astaire interview.
I remember that interview with Astaire because they used film clips only from his Paramount features like LET'S DANCE (ugh!), HOLIDAY INN, FUNNY FACE, and BLUE SKIES. At one point, he congratulated Cavett's producers on getting clips of numbers he said were his favorites, and I thought it odd than none of his RKO-Ginger Rogers films or any of his MGM triumphs would be counted among his favorite works. Maybe he was just being gallant.

Yes, the little girl does her own tapping - she was a little bundle of dynamite. I will say that the SF audience you hear whooping it up was really that way - we didn't sweeten it at all.

Guess I'll head downstairs now to clean the guest bath and then back to TV.
I still haven't decided if I will watch WEDDING CRASHERS or just give it a pass. I was SO disappointed in THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN, and this made even more money last year, so I'm wondering if movie comedies of today just aren't to my liking.
-
I have this to say: LAGAAN is one heck of a beautiful, wonderful movie!
It was like watching a Rodgers and Hammerstein film made in India...the music was great, the dances were great, the story was fantastic!
I highly recommend it...and you needn't be a fan of Bollywood to enjoy this film!!

Keith surprised me by sending the following email to our puppy’s breeder. :D :D :D
We're going to go with the registered name of Silver Blaze, call name SHERLOCK. The Silver Blaze is a Conan Doyle / Sherlock Holmes short story in which the following famous exchange takes place:
Detective Gregory (Scotland Yard) - "Is there any point to which you wish to draw my attention?"
Holmes - "To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time."
Detective Gregory (Scotland Yard) - "The dog did nothing in the night-time."
Holmes - "That was the curious incident!"
Initially, we thought Hound of the Baskervilles would be
ideal but soon remembered that the hound in question was demonic! Anyway, as it now stands, Muzbe has morphed into Sherlock.

Any spare vibes would be appreciated for my friend Peter who is fighting (the problem is he is not fighting) the dreaded HIV and is hospitalised at the moment. I'm off to visit him. He is only 41, has a 12 year old daughter and has much to live for - if only the cycle can be broken.

Their son just got back last night from his honeymoon in Hawaii - he may have some ideas.
It's such a lovely day! And I see on the weather map that it's raining again up north -- whatta surprise!
It isn't raining around here!

VIBES TO PETER and his Family~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
Today was a beautiful day, it's in the 60s and there was a nice breeze all day. It was great to do windows...so great I went ahead and did the kitchen windows while I was at it
-
DR Tomovoz - Thoughts and prayers and, of course, vibes for your friend Peter and his family.
-
My real inspiration for starting to clean and work on the house again was watching the documentary of Grey Gardens. My house is in really good shape, but watching that really made me want to take care of my house!
-
NEW TAR TONIGHT!!!! I forgot about it until I was channel surfing. Yeah! Think I'll go take a quick bath and then watch the show
-
And don't forget DR Ginny -- I actually trimmed a few bushes and threw away leaves earlier today. Whew.......the frantic pace is overwhelming... ;)
I started the coffee............. oh and I cleaned the microwave.
-
TAR has a really interesting mix of people this time. I think I'm going to like them.
-
Vibes and prayers for Peter.
-
No spoilers yet, just wanted to say I really enjoyed TAR's opening epiosode. I think I'm going to enjoy this season a lot. There are only one or two teams that annoy me.
-
H-E-L-L-O-O-O-O-O-O
Is Anybody out there?
-
On Mythbusters today they discovered that a duck's quack does echo, it's just very soft and you can't hear it....
-
Cleaning the microwave...that's one thing I forgot to do....
-
Well, I can talk to myself without being on the internet, so guess I'll sign off.
-
Best of thoughts and wishes go to DR Tom's friend Peter.
-
I won't be watching THE AMAZING RACE, but I look forward to reading the thoughts of various DRs here who do watch it. That's how I keep up with the events of the show.
-
I went back down to finish the Katharine Hepburn segment of the DIck Cavett interview. I also watched the outtakes and reaction shot taping which was also very interesting. At one point, Kate reminded Dick to ask her about George Cukor, and he snapped his fingers saying how much he was looking forward to doing that. Of course, he never did.
I do have on videotape two interviews Cavett did with George Cukor so I guess that makes up for it a little bit.
-
Next, I watched the Fred Astaire interview. I had vivid memories of this one. He sang several medleys of his old hits and did some dancing, too. He was never a very responsive interview subject, nothing like the other interview subjects I watched tonight.
-
Hi H/Ks......... I just thought I'd pop in for a minute to say hello.... and also probably goodnight.
Dear Tom-Oz....all the best thoughts and prayers are sent for your friend Peter.
Dear BK -- Eat pie for me........yummy pie. Better yet, Eat pie WITH me next time I'm over....I want to try 4 and 20 . :)
-
Tomovoz, you know that your friend, Peter, will be in my thoughts and prayers not only before you leave on your trip; but during the entire time you are visiting The Americas.
-
The Bette Davis interview was not the one I was expecting (an appearance where she sang "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte" with Barry Manilow with hair past his shoulders and weighing about 80 pounds accompanying her was the one I thought this would be). A mesmerizing 90 minute interview. One wished it would never end.
-
Next came the interviews with Debbie Reynolds and Groucho Marx. Debbie hadn't lost her fortune yet, so she seemed on top of the world (they talked about the MGM auction). Groucho was, as always, supremely witty if a bit slower in delivery at this stage of his life. His companion Erin Fleming appeared on the show with him.
-
I ended the evening with an interview with Kirk Douglas which I had never seen before. Interesting comments from him. I very much enjoyed what he had to say, but I yearned for more stories about his big studio days in Hollywood. He spent more time talking about his most recent pictures A GUNFIGHT and LIGHT AT THE EDGE OFTHE WORLD.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ VIBES FOR PETER & HIS FAMILY AND TRAVEL VIBES FOR DR TOMOVOZ & COLIN! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[/move]
I am at the end of a fantastic day: DR FJL and Skip invited me over for a birthday dinner, which was one of the most wonderful meals I've ever encountered and a splendid showing of Skip's culinary skills: perfect roast chicken, corn on the cob, fresh green beans and the most lucious chocolate mousse topped with grated white chocolate. The champagne was tasty and the dinner wine absolutely vin extraordinaire! The company of such cultivated, generous, witty and erudite gentlemen was nearly the cherry on the sundae. The coup de grace was a ticket to MARY POPPINS, which I will attend with them on Oct. 25. Thank you again, gentlemen!
Then, I drunkenly rambled to the theatre for the Singing Nun; a new sound man was brought in tonight and the sound was excellent. I will catch up on the posts and fall over.
-
George you look very cool! :)
Thank you! :D
-
Any spare vibes would be appreciated for my friend Peter who is fighting (the problem is he is not fighting) the dreaded HIV and is hospitalised at the moment. I'm off to visit him. He is only 41, has a 12 year old daughter and has much to live for - if only the cycle can be broken.
Unless I totally missed something (which is entirely possible), there isn't anything on TV that I want to watch. So...I'm going to watch "Third Man Out." Since I watched "Adam & Steve" last night, I will watch another movie tonight. :)
Later!
-
And even if I did miss something, I don't care. I'm watching "Third Man Out." ;)
-
I rewatched THIRD MAN OUT the other day and really enjoyed it the second time even knowing all of its twists. Just a pleasure to see the actors working so confidently. It may have had a small budget, but it didn't stop these talented craftsmen from turning out a very polished production.
-
Now, I'm heading off to bed.
Good night!
-
Thank you Laura, George, Matt and Jane, Ginny and Cilla. Pete was a little better today and has at least eaten something. The hospital is excellent and the staff wonderfully supportive of patients and families.
That's good news for today, Tomovoz. It is very difficult to have good friends who are ill. I've been there.
-
I notice DR Pogue is present. I though of him the past three days while I have been reading Caleb Carr's "The Italian Secretary: - a Further Adventure of Sherlock Holmes.
It's not great, or particularly inspired, but a very pleasent page turner for an autumn evening.
So much for having the whole day free - I ended up spending many hours proofing the final rehearsal script for The Brain, and then proofing the lead sheet for the new version of one of the songs. My eyes are bleary, but it's done and I don't really have to look at the script again in terms of changes until we go into rehearsal.
