Title: THREE FRENCH HENS
Post by: bk on December 18, 2003, 12:23:11 AM
Well, you've read the notes, therefore you know the drill.  You know the drill, therefore you know the routine.
To it, I say.

I assume casting Mame with Lucille Ball would also be considered off-limits.  Or at least off key.

I'd like to cast Gary Coleman as Young Patrick, but that would require the addition of the line, "Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, Mame?" at some point in the script.  Is that allowed?

I can't decide whether Harvey Fierstein & Leonard Nimoy should play the roles of Mame & Vera, or vice versa -- I see today's topic is going to require some more thought . . .

Oh dear....I was NOT nott again!  Oh well, TOMOVOZ obviously doesn't know talent....  ;D

Our young DR's are passing their tests and celebrating....DRPanni has a shining dog and lovely highlighted hair....Mr BK has three French hens....it must be almost Christmas!!!  ;D

Oh - I was just thinking of Mame yesterday, because I picked up a used copy on VHS in W I D E S C R E E N of Auntie Mame with RR!  I immediately forwarded to ONE of my favorite parts...Miss Joanna Barnes telling the ping pong ball story!!!! LOL.  :D

And Bad Casting for the musical would include:

Mame:  Mamie Van Doren

Beauregard: Cliff Robertson
Vera:  Fran Drescher

Gooch:  June Wilkinson (with apologies to her, because SHE is one of my favorites, but I am sure to make her look plain, what we would do in this production is make her wear glasses)

Patrick:  Gary Coleman and then Todd Bridges

Gloria:  James Van Der Beek

Pegeen:  Sean William Scott

LOL DR Sigerson Holmes we had the same thought at exactly the same time.  Spooky isn't it?  :o

Well, here we are in London. The computer set-up isn't the greatest but I wanted to post to say hello at least.

Anthony has been hit by some jet lag otherwise, things are great. The weather is wonderful and we are raring to go. We leave for Nottingham tomorrow to see friends for the weekend then back to London.

Tomovoz, thanks for the note.

Bye for now.

Excellent interview with Stephanie J. Block, BK. I had the pleasure of seeing her in Boy from Oz. When Isabel Keating made her entrance, the audience let out a collective gasp: it was as if we were seeing Judy Garland live at the Imperial. But Stephanie J. Block captured a Liza who, as SJB said in the interview, was not an icon at the time. It was fascinating to see her character develop along with her relationship and her career, and her final scene with Hugh Jackman/Peter Allen was moving. She has a great voice, and gave an honest performance.

I'll give today's casting call some more thought, but how does one improve on TomovOz's list?

Iwonder. . .

Where the three French hens singing the Jack Nicholson arrangement of  "La Vie en Rose?"  It's used over the end credits of his new movie, so I've heard.  I've also heard that people (namely critics) are surprised that Jack is singing!  Whassamattah with those critics? Don't they remember Ken Russell's TOMMY?! ?! ?! ?

Okay this is as mean as I get.

We had a huge storm on Sunday night and my neighbor was using his snow tractor at midnight and making huge amounts of noise. Well his tractor (which annoys me) does not lift snow, it only pushes it.

And he pushed huge amounts of snow onto the street (which he is not allowed to do). HE put it beside my driveway, leaving a huge mess.

Well we had more snow last night.  And this morning the snow plow came and plowed that entire HUGE pile of snow from the street RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIS DRIVEWAY.

It made me so happy :)

Tomovoz will soon also have a package on it's way also, just as soon as I make my way to Best Buy to pick up some empty CD cases (I ran out last night)

Looking forward to reading the interview. Haven't had time to get to it yet. Running behind this morning because I spent a goodly portion of it watching on one of the HBO channels the documentary PARAGRAPH 175 on the Nazi persecution of homosexuals during the Holocaust. BENT gave us a dramatic taste of the story, and this documentary fills in lots of gaps. I will be getting the DVD of this for watching again. Also, there are some additional interviews on the DVD which I want to see.

MAME is unquestionably my favorite Jerry Herman musical, so to demean it seems SO WRONG. Of course, I'll do it anyway.

Mame - Brittney Spears
Vera - Jane Withers
Beaureguard - Robert Morse
Gloria Upson - Angela Lansbury
Young Patrick - Sean Hayes
Older Patrick -  Mickey Rooney
Gooch - Raquel Welch
Mr. Upson - Tom Cruise
Mrs. Upson - Gloria Stuart
Ito - Russell Crowe

Emily's Executive Notes on Previewing American Movies in Canada

1) Canadians like sports (i.e. Hockey)
2) Canadians like seeing movies about sports (i.e. Hockey)
3) Canadians don't like seeing Americans winning sporting (i.e. Hockey) competitions instead of them.  But they can survive if the main theme of the movie is not nationalistic pride and if the USSR and not them is the movie's "bad guy"
**4) Never ever ever show a preview for a movie about the 1980- US Olympic Hockey Team's Gold Medal win over the USSR with the final voice over "THE BEST GAME EVER.  THE BEST PLAYERS EVER.  THE BIGGEST DAY IN SPORTS HISTORY" to a Montreal crowd who had been waiting in the snow and sleet to see LOTR III for two hours

I expect all of you in California to head over to New Line right now and pass on these rules.  I have never seen so many angry handfuls of popcorn thrown at the movie screen at once.

DR Emily - Three cheers for the booing Montreal crowd. I'm very fond of Montreal audiences. I was going to write more, but am having some back pain today and sitting - even in my state-of-the-art (and who the hell is Art and why does he have a whole state and which state is it and what does that have to do with my chair?) Herman Miller office chair ("like sitting on air") is hurting. So au-revoir.

DR Andrea has been embossed!

LOL DR EMILY - I agree I wish that sometimes movie producers could be in the audience when the previews for their efforts are shown.  Some of my favorite reactions have been to "Tidal Wave", "The Car", "Mommie Dearest", and "Yentl."

The interview with Stephanie J Block is terrific.  Thanks to MR BK and Ms Block for sharing with us.  Yes, it's true....it's all true.  Hopefully Ms Block will be on the Tony Awards show in a number from BOY FROM OZ....wouldn't that be terrific?????

GRRRRRRRRRR  DRMBARNUM - Aradhana did NOT have subtitles.....but I enjoyed Kati Patang a LOT....even with the train wreck from "The Greatest Show on Earth."

Raheesh Khanna.....meow!

No subtitles! Doggone it! Well you can get the subtitled version of ARADHANA for about $3.99 on Nehaflix, should you decided to give it another go.

Now you must see Rajesh Khanna in ANAND...probably one of the most emotional films I have ever, ever seen! Go get it now, you will simply fall in love with him...as I have!

....and how were you able to see these movies...is someone playing hooky from work today!! You lucky!

Question for all the college student DR's...do you ever get the feeling that the book selling people are screwing us over??  I mean, we HAVE to buy the books...and they don't come cheap, then we sell them back, and get a tiny tiny fraction of the original price.  And yes, I know about buying them at places like half.com...I do it all the time, and it's still expensive.  Example - I bought an art history book for $89 dollars, used.  I will sell it back for $5 because a new edition is coming out for next year and mine is useless.  Arghh!!  I saw a girl actually start to cry when she sold her books back yesterday...some people count on that extra money for traveling home...

Good afternoon.

-I would have said Good Morning, but my dial up connection was unusally, painfully slow this morning... So I took an e-break, and now everything seems to be up to speed - so to speak.

Boy, what a treat it was to sleep in my own bed last night!  My third night this week!  Alas, not consecutive, but I'll be back to consecutive nights come January after CAMELOT closes.  *Although it looks like I just picked up another short gig up in DC that would take me into the New Year - It would start the Monday after Christmas, so I'd be doing double duty for the last week of CAMELOT - rehearsing during the day, and show at night.  More money for New York City!  -New York City?!?!?!?

Congrats to all those DRs who have finished up this portion of the academic year and/or their academic life!  Nothing like that feeling when you're walking out of your last exam, and it hits you, "I'm finished!"

As for Mame casting...  I've actually never really been in to Jerrry Herman musicals - except for maybe Mack & Mabel - and that's solely based on the various recordings out there.  Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a full Jerry Herman musical on stage nor on film - at least all the way through.  -Does that mean I lose my "gay card"?  In any case...  ;) But I have played many of song of Mr. Herman's for various singers and students, and I do like them.  However, when it comes to Mame...

I AM Ito!

-In fact, I'm about to clean up some dishes in the sink - not mine unfortunately - and start on a few batches of cookies!  DR SWW - I'll race you!

Oh, and we're due for some snow tonight and tomorrow morning... I'm keeping my eyes on the forecast just in case it means that I should head back up to DC tonight instead of tomorrow afternoon.

DR Jose: "What a treat to sleep in my own bed last night". A few words spring to mind but it all has something to do with envy.

Jose--oh, do tell us about the new gig!  Is it another show?

I like Jerry Herman, but perhaps I'm weird in that I actually prefer Mame to Hello, Dolly.

Does anyone know what's up with Miss Spectacular, btw?  I saw part of Almost Famous: Vegas Showgirls on E! yesterday evening and it made me think about that.

I don' t think that word really applies to my story. I don't think of myself as someone who takes pleasure from others' misfortune.  I think that is a horrible quality.   But I do believe in the saying that sometimes "what goes around, comes around".

The neighbor was completely inconsiderate to dump his snow right beside my driveway.  Besides the fact that that is where all guests park their cars, he's not allowed to do it.  He made a huge mess on the street.  And I just had to laugh when the city's snow plows dumped it back (and he had to know they were going to do it, since he dumped the snow to the left of his house).

DR Ann, Lovely, lovely family and I'm right after DR Kerry (Sorry Jed!).

And yes, the book sellers hate us! Particularily a little bookstore near my school that shall not be named that always, always tries to leave out books. Once he actually succeeded!

Bah, humbug! - and similar salutations of the season!  So yesterday I got through mailing out the horde of gifts to the family back east and, once again, for the most part, it cost more to mail them than to buy them.  Now I'm writing out bonus cheques for the various and sundried (or is it sun-dried?) help...jacuzzi man, gardener, postman...It's all becoming a real expensive pain-in-the-butt.   The lovely wife and I finally pow-wowwed with some of the relatives a few years back and instead of going crazy buying gifts for each and every individual, we now have narrowed it down to one sort of representative gift to the family...and gifts for children and really old elders.  But it's still a hassle and we're now reconsidering those annual cheques to various nieces and nephews who are now through college and making their own way in the world and starting families of their own.  It must stop somewhere!

We're seriously considering telling everyone we've donated a 100 dollars in their name to our favourite charity CJATL...otherwise known as Chuck and Julieanne's Annual Trip to London.

And don't get me started on business gifts...although I've noticed that most of those various and sundried (or is it sun-dried?) handlers of mine have stopped sending out their annual loot and I'm wondering why I should reciprocate?  I'll get something from my business manager I'm sure, but it does seem the treasure-trove from agents and studio nabobs has dried up lately (maybe it's only because I'm no longer the hot ticket I used to be)...though I did get a lovely, elegant silver two-faced alarm travel clock from Jeff Zucker of NBC, home of my current project.  It's great...you can set it on the time where you are and the time back home.

On top of all that, I'm either getting over a cold or sinus-crap and it's a bloody bore.   I used to have more time for the festive aspects of Christmas and it wasn't such a dreary drudge.

I did pick up a few items at Amoeba with which to regale the lovely wife and myself for the next few days.  LORD LOVE A DUCK, which the  lovely wife has never seen.  MORGAN, which I have never seen.  And A KID FOR TWO FARTHINGS, which neither of us have ever seen and was bought because BK's review of it the other day piqued my curiosity.

Ah DRCHARLESPOGUE..... "Morgan! A Suitable Case for Treatment"

I loved that movie a long time ago....the last time I saw it, not so much.  But I am fond of it.

And Vanessa Redgrave as the illusive Leonie says something very interesting:  "People always take you seriously, until they get to know you."

TCB,  I just don't like to talk about ongoing projects until there is actually something viable happening with them.  One...I do believe there is such a thing as talking something to death and not doing it.  Two...I half-believe talking too much about something can jinx it.  Three...as Panni and BK both can tell you, in this insane business you can write something, get handsomely paid for it, and it never sees the light of day.  So rather than gab about the project and have people always asking when will it be out, when can I see it, etc. I just try to keep a low profile, do my job, collect my dough, and keep my yap shut until there is actually something to yap about.

Good afternoon/almost evening.

Well, I have yet to bake today.  Although I do suspect I will be venturing into one of my all-night baking binges...  something is in the air... and it's not the snow.. yet.   I also cleaned up the kitchen, and sorted through my baking supplies.  I noticed that I was really low on light brown sugar and bittersweet chocolate.  -I can't seem to remember where I "hid" that pound of Valhrona bittersweet I bought a few months ago.  ???  So, I'm about to head out to dinner with a friend, and then I'll make a stop at the grocery store... my second one day today.

DR Charles Pogue - I actually have little a "bah-humbug" in me today too (no comments, please, Tomovoz and TCB), but I'm not at the point where I feel like venting about it on HHW... yet.  However, I have been venting to some friends, and everyone is on my side, so that's a good thing.   ;)  It's nothing major.. just lots of little, minor things.  We'll see...  So, I bake!

-I may actually have a cocktail at dinner tonight...

I just came back from a long day of story meetings, shopping (for my daughter's presents) and doing errands... And may I ask a question?... What the HELL are all these people doing out there? I have to out bah-humbug DR Pogue because this time of year is nuts. And I for one don't like it. Not one bit. Bah-hum-bug twice over with fries. So there. And I've just now discovered that the huge bargain I got on a certain DVD for said daughter was not a huge bargain because it's not a DVD! Now I have to go out into the madness (not until tomorrow, though, no way) and exchange it or return it. B-H-Bug!
And I totally agree with DR Pogue in that I NEVER talk about things that haven't actually happened. Even when shooting starts, I always preface my remarks with "We'll see how it turns out..." 'cause you never know. As, again, Pogue, bk and any other writer making a living in this crazy field will tell you.

And before I forget, DR Jrand53, I most definitely do not remember the Edsel. I'm too young. Hear that? Young, young, young! That's not to say I wasn't alive at the time, but what did I know from Edsels? I'd just arrived in Canada from Hungary via Austria and Britain and my only form of transportation was a wonderful huge tricycle that my mother bought for me at the Salvation Army. I have to say, that was the best vehicle I ever had. I even talked to it. I don't talk to my Toyota Camry. If I did, it would probably answer in Japanese and I'd get confused and have an accident. and how would I explain THAT to the police, I ask you?

I've got a nice chunk of beef roasting in the oven.  I'm in the mood for beef (close to a Jimmy McHugh reference).

We're having dinner so late because we had to drop off a rideable four-wheeler for one of the grandlads at Daughter and Son-in-Law's.  They couldn't shop for it themselves, so they got Daddy to get it instead.  Where was Daughter all day instead?  Shopping with one of her girlfriends for shoes.  Where was Son-in-Law?  Picking up the kids from day care after work.  She was too busy shopping to work her schedule to include that.

We got to see the fiber-optic snowman she also insisted we buy for her. set up and lighted.  It is very not Christmas.  It's more Halloween, with beady, glowing eyes and a carrot nose that looks like a pointer to hell.

Daughter and Son-in-Law don't laugh together.  At, not with each other, if that.  We'll be spending Christmas Day with them.  They suggested we come up Christmas Eve and spend the night, but der Brucer demurred.

Der Brucer and I talk and laugh together.  I'm counting my blessings.

Fine BK,

For you're reading pleasure:

Captive Beauties and Virgin Lovers:
The Literary Idealization of Women in  “The Lady of Shalott” and the “Blessed Damozel”

The Lady of Shalott and the Blessed Damozel are proper, pretty and pure.  Just like the ideal of womanhood they reflect, they are the very model of chastity and good taste, devoted to God and the cult of domesticity.  They are plucked right out of Coventry Patmore’s poem, The Angel in the House, where chaste and selfless women create a sanctuary of peace for hard-working men (Abrams 1057).  This “angel” is the dream Victorian woman, who caters to the needs of her society by being graceful, gracious and good mannered.  However, she does not actually exist.  She has no real foundation in reality.  In “The Lady of Shalott” and “The Blessed Damozel”, Tennyson and Rossetti are espousing idealistic, traditional Victorian values about the place and conduct of women, not as a reflection of the realities of society, but rather as a reaction against the current role of women during the nineteenth century. The women in these poems represent male fantasies as paragons of otherworldly beauty.  Captive and unable to escape, even in death, they embody the Victorian ideal of purity and joy of domesticity.

DR TCB, the rights are certainly cheaper for just the play version. Jerry Herman musicals are very expensive to license, I'm sure.

I really like the musical better, not only for the score, but also some of the extra characters either get cut or combined with others to no real loss.

Well, here I go being contrary.  While I don't know from Auntie Mame or Mame, I can say that I do quite prefer The Matchmaker to Hello, Dolly.  Actually played Vandergelder in a HS production of The Matchmaker, and find it a very fun, well-put-together play.  I don't find the book changes to Hello, Dolly the least bit beneficial, and the score is certainly not a favorite of mine.  Moments I enjoy, certainly, but the musical in general leaves me pretty flat.

Ahh, horseracing. :)

Absolutely NOT.  I'm sure that yours was wonderful.  Actually the one that I saw was put on by local (Olympia) teachers.  It was actually not too bad.  Some of the teachers haven't really acted since...well...ever.  Since it was a fundraiser for some school thing, I was able to forgive most of the casting choices.  The leads were actually pretty good.

I would not bother ever going to see "Mame" or "Dolly" staged again UNLESS they starred TCB in any role. I put them in the same basket as "Sweet Charity".(Yes I know it is Coleman) Not worth the effort at all. Despite the faults I do not tire so much of "Mack & Mabel". bk as Harpo. I can see it. With a wig, it could definitely work. I have a wonderful DUCK SOUP poster up on my wall in which Harpo is just two huge eyes, clown lips and, of course the incredible hair which hovers over him like a crazy halo.

Despite my misgivings (is there a Mr. Givings?) I wandered out again tonight and went to the Gap in Studio City (open until 10:30!) and found the item I had been looking for all over town - a cute red purse for the offspring - to match the cute sweater I got her. The purse and sweater were featured in all the Gap adds, thus the purse was not to be found. But I saw it on a dummy and wrestled it off its arm. I also went to Bookstar and wandered around. Looked through a songbook of MIGHTY WIND numbers and noted that there are now two million books about how to become a successful screenwriter. There is a new practice which has sprung up in the last few years -- sending out screenplays to WGA members in order to get their votes. Today I received SEABISCUIT - a nice book of the script which is  being sold in stores. The other day, the script of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN showed up. I like having scripts around. Sometimes, when I get stuck in my writing, I'll just open a up a script at random and it never fails to give me ideas. (Most of the time the idea starts with, "This guy knows how to write and I don't. I just want to crawl under a rock and disappear before they find out that I'm a fake who's pretending to be a writer." But after a while, that passes and I start to write again and everything is fine until I get stuck and think... You get the picture.)
This rambling is actually sort of fun - like talking to my tricycle, but I'll stop now. I think I have done my bit to contribute to the Frenzy.

I'm downloading some pictures from SCROOGE that one of the cast members sent me. I'll share any good ones.

MBarnum: I'm waiting with bated breath...or baited breath...I dunno. Either way, THANKS!

I loved the interview with Stephanie. She's got such a great attitude about the whole WICKED thing...I'm sure she'll get to do it once Idina decides to leave. Did anyone notice that BOY FROM OZ will close for the two weeks that Hugh Jackman is on vacation? THAT'S interesting, isn't it?

The Holiday potluck that we had at work today was filled with much food and frivolity.  :D We have a morning break with goodies (I brought chocolate truffles...store-bought, but very good) and gift exchange.  Then for lunch, the adminstration (all 12 of them) chipped in to buy a fully cooked turkey with all the trimmings.  Everyone else brought everything else.  There was so much food and a lot of leftovers (as always)...enough so that most people don't have to bring a lunch the next day.

For the gift exchange (there's supposed to be a $10 limit), I gave a very nice, solid wood picture frame and some Ghiradelli chocolates.  I got a cowbell that has a very cute snowman and snowwoman hand painted on it, a "Country Bouquets" wall calender and a hand-made plastic flower display thing.  It's a round circle covered in black fabric that has plastic flowers hot glued to it.  I don't really know what to make of it, but it's...how should I say this...it's not what I'm interested in.  How's that for diplomatic.  It looks well made, but I just don't want it.  I wish I had a digital camera because I can't really explain it.  I'll have to ask my sister to take a picture of it so that I can post it.  It's a little weird.  The bell and the calendar are pretty cool, but this thing...I just don't know.

That was my day at work.  I probably got no more than a couple of hours of actual work done.  Love days like that!  ;)

George - I was always quite good at creating days like that for myself.  It's rather astonishing how little work I managed to get done in 5 years working at the university library. :D

Oprah as Mame - excellent.  I'm afraid we haven't reached "frenzy" yet - we're still at "fren" - all we need is the "zy" or the girl, one of the two.

Attended a local high school choir and band concert tonight.  It's sad how poor acoustics can take so much away from a performance.  The cafetorium they have is a black hole for sound, and the choirs, which I know to be reasonably good groups for a small high school, really did not sound it at all tonight.  Will be very nice to hear them again in March when they do a concert away from the school at a much more acoustically friendly community performing arts center.  Tonight's locale just gave a horribly anemic sound.

While still far from ideal, the set-up tonight was more band-friendly.  Sadly, they just weren't very good.  :-\

Ah well, still fun to be there to support the students (this is the school at which I did my student teaching last year).  Also fun to hear the vocal jazz group do an arrangement of mine I hadn't heard in quite awhile (I arranged it back when I was in HS myself).

Good evening/morning.

Whew!  I finally starting baking around 10:30.  I got one nice-sized batch of almond biscotti done, about four dozen oatmeal-chocolate-chip-pecan-toffee cookies, and I prepped the peanut butter cookies - the "drops" are currently in the freezer - I'll just pop them in the oven in the morning - about five dozen of those.  *Oh, and the oatmeal-chocolate-chip-pecan-toffee cookies have extra(!) toffee!  I just put the rest of the SKir bits I had... I'll be sampling one shortly.   :D

But before I started baking, I went to dinner...

Silly BK, there is no need to shut down for the remainder of the year.  As you said earlier, December has been a slow month in the past.  And do realize, our numbers, while down from the last month, are still double that of this same time last year!  Furthermore, if the E&T were to return and find us in hiatus, they would be more likely to remain E&T upon our return.  And getting out of the habit of our daily posting would very possibly cause sluggish numbers even from us non-E&T's upon our return.

No need for overreaction, they are simply numbers.  And anyone who says that numbers are the sign of a good website community can KISS MY ASS! :)

Dinner was wonderful.  My friend, Mark, came over to the apartment for a cocktail, and then we walked over to the restaurant - Avalon.  It's one of my favorite places, and I hadn't been there in a while, so...  Our friend, Scott, met us over there too.  The chef, Q as she is known, used to do a lot of costume work for theatres, but turned full time to the cooking a couple of years ago, and has never looked back.  Avalon is a nice place - nothing really distinctive about the decor, but there are black & white pictures of classic Hollywood all over the walls.  The only drawback is that the smoke from the bar tends to creep into the dining area.  -Like it did tonight, ah, well.. we still had a wonderful meal.

Our waitress, Aleen, was a hoot!  She really took care of us, and also played along with us too - come on, you get three gay men dining out together, and there's bound to be innuendo flying left and right!  She even picked out what I should have for dinner tonight: house-cured salmon for my appetizer, and Chicken Calais for my entree.  *I asked her what I should have tonight, and she was more than happy to oblige.  The salmon was wonderful - served with whipped chive-dill-cream cheese and baguette slices.  And the chicken was soooo good - the chicken breast was stuff with brie cheese and topped with a sage-apricot sauce, along with some mashed sweet potatoes.  My dining companions feasted on a very good bacon-cheeseburger (with both cheddar and bleu cheese), and a very generous portion of duck (it was half a duck!).  Dessert was Mrs. Lincoln's gingerbread a la mode.  It was actually a little "dry" tonight, but it was served warm, and by the time we slathered all the whipped cream and melting ice cream over it, it was very "edible".  *And because it was a litte dry tonight, Aleen comped our salads.

The fun continued even as we took care of the check.  We left the tip in cash, and proceeded to fold four of the bills into a pinwheel, then balancing it on the pen, and another bill became a bow tie.  A little post-meal origami.  Hopefully Aleen was able to get the bills back to normal without ripping them.

*And if you ever find yourself in Richmond and at Avalon, her triple cheese macaroni & cheese is to die for!

Then we all headed home, and I started to bake.. so...

It was a very nice evening.  Just what I needed.  I've been stressing out about "something" all day, and getting out of the apartment, and hanging out with some good friends was just what I needed to take my mind off things.  Also, it looks like I may have found a very plausible solution to my "stress" tonight too!  *I'll reveal all once everything is settled.  Again, it's nothing major, just a lot of related little things.  But once I start.... there's goes the bandwidth!

Hehehe... been there, done that, Jason.  When I understudied for Tevye in summer stock a couple seasons ago, my Hodel was a year older than me, and my Tzeitel was 5 years older than me. :D

Oh, and as I'm currently playing Fezziwig as well, my young employees Ebeneezer and Dick Hacking are both 10-12 years older than me!

The only problem with eating cookies that way is that most of the cookie ends up on the floor and not in your mouth.  Kind of like when Cookie Monster ate cookies.

Attended a local high school choir and band concert tonight.  It's sad how poor acoustics can take so much away from a performance.

I, too, hate it when the space works against the art.  A couple of years ago, a university within driving distance of Washington, DC, received a major donation to build a new performance space.  Well, they got it built - a very nice-sized building, comfortable seats, ample parking, etc.  Unfortunately, the interior seems a bit "cold", and the acoustics are terrible.  I've seen a few shows there, and it appears the orchestra pit is in the perfect acoustical space, however, the stage isn't.  They were doing Footloose, and every time the full ensemble started to sing all at once - with a nice crescendo building both on stage and in the pit - the conductor would have to suddenly "shush" the orchestra in order for the chorus to be heard.  Now what's up with that?!?!?  Everyone is singing, and you have to quiet the orchestra?!?!?  To add insult to injury, it appears that no one in the sound booth has been properly trained.  And from the looks of the speaker set up, it also looks like the "cluster" they have is more suitable for a space half that size.  Ah, well...

At least they have plenty of bathrooms.  :P

Ooohh.. Ina Garten is making Jam-Thumbprint Cookies right now on FoodTV... hmm... If I don't have to leave until 2:00 tomorrow afternoon....  Hmmm....  Although, I think if I actually do get up early enough, I may make that Chocolate Sour Cream Bundt Cake again... It was soooo good!  I'd make the Green Tea Pound Cake, but that takes a little more time than I wish to spend tomorrow morning.
