The absurd and money-grubbing idea that I can't get a complete recording of the new Chorus Line on one CD is appalling. Appalling enough that I will probably not purchase the new recording. I know the record company doesn't give a rat's patootie about it but who cares. Not them and now not me.
Much as I like having my iTunes, I have no urge to see my computer replace either my CD or DVD player, and the corporate world's insistence otherwise irks me a lot.
Dr Edisaurus, when will your documentary be available for public viewing? DR WFO explained the background to me (I am afraid I was woefully ignorant of the entire matter) and I am interested in seeing it.
And the word of the day is: VORAGINOUS!Casey would waltz
I remember, when we were children, watching my cousins pop olives onto their fingers, and then eating them. It looked quite cannibalistic
Der B had a half a duck that had been sauced with Madera and green olives, and was quite happy as well.
This means that I'm up by 24 points - meaning that if I only make 50 points on yesterday's test, I am still in the game!
I wish I was sauced in Madeira RIGHT NOW!Der Brucer is napping. It's an hour drive up to Dover for our shopping, then a half hour driving over to his daughter's house, then at least an hour listening to his daughter screaming at everyone, and then a ninety minute drive back to home. All that can be quite draining.
(Have some Madeira, M'Dear!)
Is Der B too sauced to write anymore?
Edisaurus - I'm wondering if your documentary will be shown a few times in a few places in and around LA??
My "Ask BK Day" question is: How much of your new book is autobiographical? The characters are so charming and witty---there are some lines that are so funny I made a note to myself to remember them for future use. (My favorite one was about the cleaning lady...I can use that a lot!) The description of writing the dirty book was so well done that it seemed like something you must have experienced! Or maybe that's just what really good writers do...
Oh, now I think I remember the line - in Dirty Book, right?
We studied S/V in a high school class...but it wasn't Civics or History, I think it was in a Journalism class for some reason.
Vanzetti in particular wrote beautiful, poignant letters, perhaps that's why? The trial was heavily covered in the press for years as the "crime of the century", so that could be the reason as well.
In the movie "The Male Animal", one of the central plot points involves Henry Fonda reading Vanzetti's letters to his college students, which caused quite a stir back in the day!
Question for ASK BK day:
Of all the Courts shows you have attended and been a part of - who have you seen that you have been surprised at how nice they still look....and who takes the cake as the one you had to check the name tag to identify...and even then....
DR EDISAURUS mentioned Something Weird Video the other day. I got a 4-DVD set of Harry Novak Hillbilly Sexy South comedies today.... I have watched COUNTRY CUZZINS and MIDNITE PLOWBOY. I think the one-DVD set would have been a-plenty!
Diane McBain looked incredible, I thought. Samantha Eggar looks swell, and so does Hayley Mills - the best of them all, however, is Leigh Taylor Young.
Worst - Paul Le Mat and Jack Wild.
bk, what was the most interesting experience you have had at Ray Courts?
What is the worst experience?
After meeting at Pioneer square we headed back to the hotel and to my car, making a delicious pitstop at See's Candy, and drove haphazardly to DR JMK's (the crew will attest that I cannot drive and chat at the same time...well I can, but I tend to get lost).
I don't love any olives except normal black ones.
I got halfway through the third chapter of "Dirty Book" and then had to drive into town to stomp out an emergency. I was so annoyed! It's my favorite story so far and the first where I couldn't wait to see how it ended! I think it would make a great adaptation into a short film. Who's with me? Let's put on a show! (I have a barn...)
The news just announced that a small plane crashed into the 8th-10th floor of a building at 71st Street and York Avenue. It looks like 9/11.
The news has updated the information: the building struck was the building I worked in and a helicopter crashed into a higher floor: 39th or 40th The building was a residence for a lot of United Nations people, so I'm wondering what's going on!
Hopefully, nothing.
Holy SH*T!

524 East 72nd St
Firefighters now say it was a helicopter.....CNN live coverage right now
No one seems to be certain what floors are affected. I just heard 31-32, then 39. Beats me!
NEW YORK — A small aircraft crashed into a high-rise on the Upper East Side, raining down debris on Manhattan and unleashing what witnesses reported was a gigantic fireball, police said.
The aircraft struck the 20th floor of a building on East 72nd Street, said Fire Department spokeswoman Emily Rahimi. Witnesses said the crash caused a loud noise, and burning and falling debris was seen. Flames were seen shooting out of the windows.
No - I HAVE A BARN!

A few questions for our esteemed BK, and everyone else who cares:
Do you like olives?
Do you like them by themselves?
Do you like them as an ingredient in certain dishes?
I remember, when we were children, watching my cousins pop olives onto their fingers, and then eating them. It looked quite cannibalistic
Sounds like good fodder for a musical. DR George would love it!

No one seems to be certain what floors are affected. I just heard 31-32, then 39. Beats me!Seems some confusion came from the early eye-witness report from a women on the 32 nd floor, plus the confusion that the higher height of the lower floors mean the actual 20th floor is a level of a normal 30th floor.
And what a lovely barn it is, too! (Mine are collapsing.)
Your barn it is!
Deal....on a double bill with:
Knobby, The Swedish Postman :P
And not to be confused with this "First Class Comedy":

;)
Horrible! It appears to be an accident. But, just in case, according to NORAD Command, fighter planes are being scrambled over other major cities. What times we're living in!
Giant grasshoppers and 50 foot tall women soon to make their appearances. :o
There is a pilot on the phone on CNN who witnessed the crash and says that it looked to him like the plane was in trouble and the pilot was trying to get to a place to land.
InfoSpace lists 112 families at the address.
And now for something completely different: Ellen Barkin Jewel Collection Nets $20M (http://www.comcast.net/entertainment/index.jsp?cat=ENTERTAINMENT&fn=/2006/10/11/496479.html)[/b]! :o
NEW YORK - Actress Ellen Barkin's jewelry, more than 100 pieces that included her wedding ring from her failed marriage to Revlon billionaire Ron Perelman, has fetched $20.3 million at auction.
The article mentions her wedding ring and other pieces of jewelry, and then it goes on to say:
The $20.3 million total "makes Ellen Barkin's collection the highest single-owner jewelry sale of the past 15 years in the U.S. and also places it among the top four ever worldwide," Rahul Kadakia, head of Christie's jewelry department, said in a statement.
Who knew??
DR MattH, yes i did watch VERONICA MARS.
Not as good as last week, but still highly enjoyable.
The plane belonged to Cory Lidle of the Yankees, and they've confirmed he was a casualty (4, so far).
Horrible! It appears to be an accident. But, just in case, according to NORAD Command, fighter planes are being scrambled over other major cities. What times we're living in!
That is indeed tragic, DR Elmore. Thank you for alerting us to this. I was able to call my partner, and he was grateful that he knew to avoid that area when he picked up his young children from school nearby.
It doesn't "appear" to be an accident, it IS an accident. "Just in case" Please. I wouldn't be surprised if the NORAD report was just more hysterical misinformation put out there by the incredibly ignorant and ratings-hungry media.
So, yes, it's horrible that an accident happened.
From what I understand, they're already saying the pilot was maydaying pre-crash, which means the FCC absolutely knew what was going on.
Today is National Coming Out Day!
Come out, come out, whoever you are! :)
I sure hope George Clooney sees this post!
Diane McBain looked incredible, I thought. Samantha Eggar looks swell, and so does Hayley Mills - the best of them all, however, is Leigh Taylor Young.
Worst - Paul Le Mat and Jack Wild.

Horrible accident in NYC. My thoughts to the family of CAry Lidle...
For those who cannot wait: I just read that in November there will be a special edition DVD of Peter Jackson's KING KONG with 13 additional minutes of footage. For those of us who thought the film too long at 187 minutes, I ask, what the hell?
I completely forgot that I have to go to Mr. Grant Geissman's at six to do some vocal touchups to what we recorded the other day, and then to actually burn the tracks to CD
I've asked the same question re Rewind, which was not purchased by several dear readers - since so many had wanted me to tell that story for so long, I was rather taken aback by it. Again: How come?
It's time to eat...then to rehearsal. :) My VCRs are set to tape some shows (LOST!!) and I'll be back later.
I'm waiting for Pwoject Wunway. I just had a debacle with my publisher, who's getting ready to publish a typeset edition of "Appalachian Carols." The first proof was missing a bar, which was corrected. Tonight when I was sent the final version, I discovered that the last proof, which was set to go to print, is missing the damned bar again. Oy!
It's a terrible thing to be dis-barred.
It's COry.
mea culpa for my error!! I misread... Sorry...
I was reading on the fly
I have two things to say about THE NINE. (1) I found the episode tonight outstanding. It's really going to twist us in knots wanting to find out everything that went down during that 52 hour hostage situation which watching current day events continue to happen.
(2) The show will begin to lose its audience starting with this episode and not recover. We'll be lucky to get a full season run out of the show.
Unlike LOST which has the personal dramas wrapped around an exciting mystery adventure saga, THE NINE has none of the adventure, and in holding back information from the audience about the characters more than LOST can afford to (since there are only nine characters and a finite amount of past time to deal with), the audience is going to get antsier more quickly about needing information here than they are with LOST. I think the audience will lose patience with the show.
I hope I'm wrong. I really like the show.
Interesting take on it, Matt. I watched tonight and I found it interesting, but I think you're right. It's going to unfold so slowly that people will lose interest
I am also catching a cold (don't like a cold inside- my head that is).
Feel better, DR Cillaliz! At least if you're too sick to go to work tomorrow, you can stay in bed with a good book! ;)
I think there are people on the site who really can't afford to do that
For anyone in the LA area, we're having a CD release party
I can do a three book special for you - cheaper than amazon or anywhere else.
What did the fly think of that? Ask POGUE!
Land-water interactions: Effects of introduced nutrients and soil particles on reservoir productivity by Bruce L Kimmel (Unknown Binding - Jan 1, 1981)
Only if you bundle it with this famous Bruce Kimmel tome from Amazon:
Land-water interactions: Effects of introduced nutrients and soil particles on reservoir productivity by Bruce L Kimmel (Unknown Binding - Jan 1, 1981)
NDSU library actually has the last book and I had to chuckle when I placed it on the cart... Bruce's secret life as a soil scientist!!
I never knew!
It's times like these that I hate living in Atlanta.
(OK. I hate it lots of other times, too.)
Anyone want to come nad play in the snow?
A very funny one that they carry, and I keep meaning to order is "Sin in the Suburbs".
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056491/
Talk about lurid!
My favorite line (which was immediately added to our vocabulary) is when a plumber comes to the housewife's door and needs to run a hose from the house to where he's working. "Ma'am, can I hook up to your outside tap?"
From soil scientist to "Dirty Book"!
Um. No. That's why I live in Arizona. ;D
Oh, my gosh, I have this movie! I also recently purchased SATAN IN HIGH HEELS, but haven't watched it yet! LOL!
Before or after JW died?Awwwww...I didm't know that Jack Wild died. He was such a cute Artful Dodger!
