And the word of the day is: THAUMATURGY!Casey would waltz
After the load-in last night, I drove another cast member home and one of his housemates is our costumer. I got to try on the top part of my "Indian" costume and it's going to be fabulous! That's all I'm sayin'! ;)Say what? What exactly is going on here? Your costume only has a top part? What kind of audience are you guys aiming for???
TOD:I've got to slow down when I read things. I thought you had written that Tevye had been played by Paul Lynde.
I know the first musical I saw was a touring production of Fiddler on the Roof with Paul Lipson as Tevye. (Sounds crazy, no?)
I see a Republican congressman is going to introduce a bill to start up the draft again. Another congressman (Republican) who won't be re-elected in 2 years,Nope, you've got it wrong. The congressman is Rep. Charles Rangel, from New York. (http://articles.news.aol.com/news/_a/congressman-rangel-will-seek-to/20061119133009990016?ncid=NWS00010000000001) He's a Democrat, representing the 15th district, which covers a fair stretch of upper Manhattan, plus a bit of the Bronx. He's currently serving his eighteenth term in office, which suggests he doesn't believe in term limits.
DR SWW - a couple of days ago DR JMK gave a list of codes that could be used for 20% your order at DEEP DISCOUNT DVD....I can't find the list, but you can do a search. It was a LONG list and will certainly save you some money VS Amazon!I've just started comparing prices between the two, and will be adding them to the spreadsheet I've set up for der Brucer after I get back from work today.
This morning I am meeting my birdwatching friend who lives here in the wintertime.
I took several other trips with the library ladies after that... I remember going to the Shakespeare Festival in Stratford Ct... I believe we saw a Midsummers' Night Dream and The Tempest there (2 different trips)
TOD - first professional musical: The Music Man touring company with Forrest Tucker and Joan Weldon at Detroit's Riviera Theatre:
Say what? What exactly is going on here? Your costume only has a top part? What kind of audience are you guys aiming for???
And are you going to supply us with pictures???????
;D
I was privileged to have a childless aunt and uncle who took my brother and me as their own and who took us to NYC once or twice a year for much of my growing up years. We almost always did musicals, however, as my uncle had a hard time following the plots of plays in the theater. He probably couldn't follow musicals well either, but at least there was singing and dancing as compensations.
Anyway, my first professional production was MY FAIR LADY at the Mark Hellinger Theater. Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison had left after two years and were either playing it in London or in rehearsals there, and I saw their immediate replacements: Sally Ann Howes and Edward Mulhare. I was very young (7) but I remember Doolittle's two numbers absolutely stopping the show cold and the audience standing and cheering them.
I call Shenanigans. Go get your broom.
Good morning, Larry!
And away I go to work!
(PS to TMC - George Ball and Amanda McBroom are on the BK produced OCR CD of Heartbeats. Great voice, his, I think.)
Wow, I would imagine among ALL of us here at HHW - we have seen EVERY show that played on the Great White Way & on tour.
DR GINNY - I have (had?) a program from that Tucker-Weldon tour, and as DR MBARNUM said, I was also MOST fascinated that Ms Weldon had tackled giant ants in THEM! She was a pretty nifty singer and looker, too, if I remember correctly, and their dancing was good, too.

Joan's on a couple of operettas, THE GREAT WALTZ from Los Angeles (DRG) and KEAN (SNY or DRG). She had a glorious soprano voice.
Yep, I'm back from errands, and I'm procrastinating before I had back to The Brain!
DR JRand - I still have the souvenir program book! Maybe DH Richard can get Them for me from Netflix - won't he be surprised when I ask for a sci-fi movie?
BK, did I ever send you a bio for the program?
Don't forget to include the fact that you are a close personal friend of Jack Randall Earles & Jose Simbulan (both born on August 26) - it will certainly impress SOME members of the audience. ::)
Well, if I mention you two, I'll have to mention Barnum and Shayne, the Michaels, and soon the list would get totally out of hand!
I see a Republican congressman is going to introduce a bill to start up the draft again. Another congressman (Republican) who won't be re-elected in 2 years,
Also Henry Kissinger says that a military victory in Iraq is not possible. Interesting. Very Interesting. We will see what the outcome will be in 2 years.
I thought this Michael Richards thing might have been a misunderstanding. But I've seen the tape. It looks like career suicide.
Watching MATLOCK and hoping the gay "confidant" didn't do it.
Shocking! :-X
Where does one see this tape of Michael Richards?
Darcy;D
DRs Edisaurus, JRand56, and Jane now have packages coming to them all the way from Salem, Oregon.
I have an hour before I have to be at work today...I think I will watch some MXC!
Who played your part in the movie, DR derBRUCER?
I have played more Jack Lemmon parts or rather parts played by Jack Lemmon in the movies! ;D
Laura will be gone after this week, so no need to worry, JRand.
No discount on Pre Order so I will place my request for Mr Val Moses tomorrow.

Urinetown? No way. Urine Stevens Point.
"Urinetown" a comedy about a town plagued by such a serious drought that residents must pay to use public restrooms, was a surprise hit on the Great White Way. But while it suited Broadway to a pee, it just won't play in Peoria. Or the Wisconsin town of Stevens Point.
That was the ruling of the school administrators who brought the curtain down on a production of the show by students at Stevens Point Area High School, the Associated Press reports.
The show's bathroom humor and adult themes figured in the decision to cancel it, according to Principal Mike Devine.
"This is a K-12 public education system," said School Superintendent Bette Lang, contending the show's satirical and ironic humor was not appropriate for younger audiences.
...
OH GOOD GRIEF!
High School Gives 'Urinetown' the Big Flush (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,230614,00.html)But somehow their previous productions of the satanic musical Damn Yankees and the spousal abuse themed "Carousel" got the OK.

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition. :P
DR derBRUCER....see above - TIME OUT FOR GINGER became BILLIE starring Patty Duke. ;D
WITHOUT A TRACE had an interesting case of a missing child protective services worker.
Thanks!!!
Why are you working the night shift? 8)
Ya know....that Luke & Laura s#*t ruined General Hospital and was boring the first time around - WHY do they keep thinking people are interested?
With Reed Diamond of Judging Amy fame.
der Brucer
Mainly because your view is the minority one...Luke and Laura are the most phenomenally successful "couple" on daytime soaps. "They" continue to plug them because the audience loves seeing them.
Now, instead of leaving early on Fridays I go in late on Mondays.
It seems they re-named the characters in the film. I played Ginger's nerdy boyfriend.
der Brucer
I got the best laugh of the run when I did an incomplete costume change and ending up on stage in a black tux with one black dress sock and one argyle wool sock. I hiked up my trousers when I sat on a sofa and an endless stream of giggles started roaming through the house while Ginger's dad was giving me a very thorough grilling.
Well, if I mention you two, I'll have to mention Barnum and Shayne, the Michaels, and soon the list would get totally out of hand!
DR Ron,
It was mentioned on BROTHERS & SISTERS last night that the Army wanted Justin back and would handle his rehabilitation itself. That was their way of circumventing your criticisms. If I understand you correctly, the writers are totally off base about that, that this would never happen.
Is the policy you have stated for all the U.S. military or is it possible, especially in this age of a lack of the draft, that the Army especially might be a bit more lenient about it needing every body they can get their hands on?
I'm not challenging your knowledge; after all, you were in the service; I wasn't. I'm just wondering if perhaps things have changed a bit since Iraq.
So your part was played by Warren Berlinger! :DWarren Berlinger?
Dinner time.[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%] ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D[/move]
Serve the cheerleader, serve the world.
Did someone mention here that the O.J. book and TV show deal are apparently off?I read that and I'm glad they did it. The whole concept of the book is disturbing. Mr. Simpson is one sick puppy. (My opinion, Not a medical one)
I read that and I'm glad they did it. The whole concept of the book is disturbing. Mr. Simpson is one sick puppy. (My opinion, Not a medical one)And I doubt you really intended to insult dogs.
This morning I went for a walk and I saw two bald eagles, a shrike
Will your Sacco & Vanzetti film cover any new ground as relates to the actual guilt or innocence of the gents?
And I doubt you really intended to insult dogs.
One sick weasel. How's that one, instead?
No good! Weasels have and serve a purpose in the grand scheme of things. Those don't work, either. They were all leaders who ordered the deaths of others on a mass scale. Compared to them, Simpson is trivial.
Let's see....how about "He's one sick Osama" or "He's one sick Hitler" or "He's one sick Mussolini"?
Hey, Dakota Celt,
Have you seen any North (or South for that matter) Dakota quarters. I collect them and I have not yet seen ANY ND quarters. The South Dakota quarter was released recently and I haven't seen any from them either.
If you have any extra, I would glady send you a regular quarter in exchange for a North Dakota quarter.
DR Edi -- I just about plotzed when I read your reference to "birdy num nums" earlier. That line always cracks up DP Kerry and me.

And whatever became of Tad?
With a name like "Tad," not much I would guess
His view is rather interesting. He's saying that he believes one of the reasons the war has gone on so long is because a majority of the troops are ethnic minorities and/or of a low socio-economic status. He thinks that once the lives of upper-class white folks are impacted to a larger degree than they are now, there will be huge pressure to bring the war to an end.
Didn't Tad die during the Cujo attack?
Oh, was Tad bit?

I know he is probably not reading these days.......... but I also wanted to wish a belated Very Happy Birthday and all of the most wonderful wishes to DR Jason .
For you newer DRs who may not be aware, DR Jason has one of the most colorful and emotional voices that I have ever heard. I had the pleasure of accompanying him a little while back, and even during the rehearsal he brought tears to my eyes during "If I Loved You."
DR elmoore.......if you happen to run across Jason, tell him he is very missed and still very loved by Kerry and me.
Will Broadway be the next to do this??
In London, a new production of "The Sound of Music" has opened. Its star is the winner of a BBC TV reality contest called How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria (http://www.theatre.com/story/id/3004752) which ran for 8 weeks as contestants vying for the lead role in the West End revival went head to head singing songs from the show.
The winner was apparently a hands-down favorite and the critics are beside themselves!
It's interesting to me that there was only one member of congress who had a child in Iraq. Not hard to send people to war if you don't have to send your own.
I read that and I'm glad they did it. The whole concept of the book is disturbing. Mr. Simpson is one sick puppy. (My opinion, Not a medical one)
Well I can give you the collective clinical but informal opinion of my co-workers. We diagnosed him with narcissistic personality disorder and anti-social personality disorder over lunch last week.

I think I got the better performer.

Thanks, Cil for the quarter offer. I will take you up on it. I used to get the quarters regularly when I went to the greenmarket (I like to get them in my change, I don't want them in the official U.S. Mint Plastic Proof Case) but my farmer folk haven't had any new quarters for quite a while.
