Well, you've read the notes, the notes had zing and zip, not necessarily in that order, and now it is time for you to post until the new cows in town come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BOMBINATE!
-
The workers at Undershaft Munitions were all abuzz with their company's record. According to the bean counters, only one BOMBINATE was a dud!
-
Hello and Goodbye. More work before Thanksgiving. I'll be in and out as time allows. I have my performance evaulation at 10am (should go smoothly, I'm not expecting any problems) and then I have to finish my annual little project.
-
Well, well, well. (Three, count 'em, three wells!)
I just did a comparison between DDDVD and Amazon on those Doctor Who discs I'm interested in. Amazon beat out DDDVD, even on those that were only 20% off. And since Amazon is selling some for as much as 50% off...
-
Ah, performance evaluations. They do seem to be all about the corporate attitude towards the employees. Right now, I'm getting wonderful reviews - I've had to ask my supervisors how they think I can improve - and that seems to come from the culture of the store. The attitude in the store is to make the customers want to return, and that reflects on our treatment of each other, as well. We strive to be friendly and helpful for our customers and our fellows.
That wasn't so back at that damn insurance company I retired from. There, they had a definite pecking order. Clerks were at the bottom of the order, treated nastily by nearly everyone, scapegoated for nearly everything. Claims adjusters cringed when their supervisors went by, and used the clerks as their punching bags. Supervisors despised the office manager, who in turn was baffled by why he couldn't get the work out of them that was being demanded by the regional office. Nobody really liked or trusted anyone else.
So, when it would come to the reviews, I could count on all sorts of nasty comments being made, things that were simply not justified, just one level blaming what was wrong on the next level down.
Maybe that's why I don't watch The Office. I'm outta there, and don't need to go back.

Good morning, Edi!
Good morning, Elmore!
-
Woody! Good morning. You're always so chipper at this time, and I feel las if I'm desperately pouring coffee down my throat, hoping the engine will start and the windows defrost.
Good morning, all! I'm listening to a demo of one of the most wonderful songs ever. It's called "Here On Earth," and - for whatever reason - it's simplicity and beauty grab my throat and stir me. Today, I have to finish scoring it, and my biggest fear is that I won't do it justice, which is why I've kept it to till the end of the scoring.
Dear Friend BK, it sounds like Merrill will be wonderful. I am looking forward to meeting everyone when I arrive next week. Next week? Oy!
TOD: I still think the greatest poster design ever was the one for FOLLIES and the crack in the American Dream.
I have very few posters, mostly Goodspeed and New York State Theatre Institute productions I've done and my Carnegie Hall poster for JUBILEE with Bea Arthur, Tyne Daly, Alice Ripley, and a lot of other wonderful actors, along with the horribles, Sandy Duncan and Herb Ross.
-
Tuesday morning greetings! I took today off to accompany DH Richard to the dentist's office, where he's scheduled for a rather elaborate procedure. Before then, I'm meeting a friend for breakfast at Java Johnny's.
TOD - 1776
-
Yes I agree the Follies poster is a classic.
I had quite a few, but they seemed to have disappeared over the many moves over the years. (I had a reproduction of the Follies poster without the credits)
On the Twenth Cenury Century with its wonderful art deco look and mylar on it.
I also had a A Chorus Line that had mylar, but I am not sure which in the long line of posters it stood.
I might still have in Montreal an autigraph poster of The Most Happy Fella that was revived on Broadway in the so called two panio version.
There is also an artist named James McMillun who did a lot of work for Lincoln Center. Among them was the psoters he did for Anything Goes with Patti LuPone. There is a book of his art work. I bought in as a remainder at Barnes and Noble so it might be out there.
The above artwork came from the website www.bookcloseouts.com (http://www.bookcloseouts.com) so you still might be able to get a copy if it interests you.
Also I can recommend another book by Steven Suskin called: A MUST SEE! Brilliant Broadway Artwork. This is more of a history of Broadway via the art work of posters.

I know it's not a page turn yet, but I can't resist after DR Michael S's post:
And one for mylar!
-
Speaking of Goodspeed (and Larry was), has anyone already mentioned this about their change in policy for their Norma Terris Theatre?

Good Morning all. I had another job interview and another job offer yesterday. I was uncomfortable yesterday though... I don't know why but I just couldn't wait to get out of the place even though I kept smiling and answering questions.
I think I am going to be contacting the first guy a little later today and see if we can't firm up deatils and perhaps I can start next week .
-
Bruce, this may have been asked and answered before, but will Brain be filmed and released on Kritzerland for the benefit of those who cannot make the trip to the west coast?

Re: last night's HEROES.

I really enjoyed last night's show. A bunch of my favorites were on.
I guess there was no other way to make peter's living a surprise. I mean we all know he can take on other people's powers. So being around the cheerleader, it seemed pretty clear what was going to happen.
Perhaps if he hadn't explained this to the girl who brought him the paintings, then it wouldn't have been totally obvious to everyone. Anybody else wonder why they went over those details on last night's show. I guess they wanted everyone to understand his powers.
Btw, if the ending of last night's show had hiro just getting to charlie's party 6 months ago, then i'm wondering will they just show a scene or two from then? Will anybody else be shown in the past?
-
Good Morning dear Larry!! Where is the song "Here on Earth " from? Is it part of the Brain score or is it from another show you are doing?
-
And Lar... how is your dad?
-
Mornin', Lar,
Bye, Lar.
-
Hey Ben! I have a North Dakota in my billfold...I'll see if I can get a South Dakota today
-
Gotta run...mornin everyone
-
Good morning dear Esteemed, zingy, and zippy BK --
Terrific news about Ms. Merrill........and I can't wait to see what the actual "Brain" looks like, and what all he does!
-
And a big Good morning to the lovely Cilla, the lovely Ben, and the lovely Jeanne....
and to always lovely Dr Larry (who slipped away just now).
-
and I'm also off to a rather busy day today. Gotta go generate some gelt......without guilt ! :)
-
Good morning, DR SWW! Sorry I missed you---I popped in before leaving for work to read last nights notes and didn't see your message until now.
TOD: Movie posters that I own: I hate to sound vain, but the only ones I have are from films I've edited. The new house has hardly any wall space, so I am going to frame some of the smaller posters I have, (11x17) for my tiny new little edit room. Thanks to DDD, I found a smaller "Daughters of the Dust" poster. Yay!
-
Btw, if the ending of last night's show had hiro just getting to charlie's party 6 months ago, then i'm wondering will they just show a scene or two from then? Will anybody else be shown in the past?
I read next week's TV GUIDE in bed last night, and next week's episode goes back in time six months to see what EVERYBODY was doing then. I'm assuming that's the focus of the entire episode, not just a scene or two.
BTW, is the Claire's boy pal really gay or was that just a mean thing her rival could say to shoot them both down? I mean, the speech he gave about being happy with himself sort of suggested that he was gay, but until she called him that, it never occurred to me that he was. Admittedly, I have the worst gaydar on the planet.
-
Good morning!
It's overcast and very cold. Not a fit day for man nor beast though the snow they thought we might have was just a mist of rain early this morning.
-
Good call, Michael S. I have my copy of A MUST SEE! right here with me.
-
My den and bedroom are decorated in window cards from Broadway shows. In fact, I had so many that some are in storage because I ran out of suitable wall space.
In my den I have LES MIZ, A CHORUS LINE, PASSION, ANGELS IN AMERICA, and INTO THE WOODS.
In my bedroom I have my two favorites: MY FAIR LADY and CITY OF ANGELS. I also have THE MUSIC MAN.
In storage I have SWEENEY TODD, WEST SIDE STORY, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, and some others that are slipping my mind now.
-
I have to say that I also adore '1776' that was posted above, and also I love A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC.
-
I've got HE'S A BULLY, CHARLIE BROWN to watch today, a Peabuts special that was new last night and also OLD CHRISTINE and CSI: MIAMI.
-
And since I didn't make it to my friend Jeff's house on Sunday to complete his HDTV installation tweaks, I'm doing that early this evening. He's also getting my used DVDs of SOUTH PACIFIC, THE KING & I, and CAROUSEL.
-
Page Two Mickey and Minnie Dance!!!
-
I have no theater posters in my possession. Unless movie posters count..those I have and plenty of them.
-
Rodzinksi, what was that Japanese-like album cover you showed the other day? The one with the blonde gal, I think it was.
-
DR Rodzinski---do you recognize this lobby? And can you name that rockstar?
-
Heading down now to start thinking about preparing lunch.
WBBL.
-
I've got HE'S A BULLY, CHARLIE BROWN to watch today, a Peabuts special that was new last night...
I am totally unfamiliar with "Peabuts".
I know.
I know.
I think I am going to....and see if we can't firm up deatils
As DR Vixmom might be wont to say: "Deatils, deatils, deatils..."
;D
-

But....but....what are YOU getting out of all this "giving"???
-
TOD:
I love so many window , but I can agree that "1776" is one of the most memorable ever. Ditto "On the Twentieth Century" with its art deco design and the generous use of mylar!
I have both those window cards (originals)...along with "Mack and Mabel", "Dreamgirls," "Annie" (original and awards window cards), "Cabaret" (Tony window card), The Chelsea "Candide", "Dear World," "Woman of the Year," "A Little Night Music", "Company," "Sweeney Todd," and "Into the Woods" among many others. I also have reproductions of several window cards and posters I've found it nearly impossible to find originals of, including "The Music Man," "Follies" and "My Fair Lady."
-
Somebody told me Robert Altman has died.
-
But....but....what are YOU getting out of all this "giving"???
"Thanks"!
-
Joey Ramone! And that must be the lobby of a certain music video channel off of Hwy. 85. Though I am just intuiting that last part. I don't actually recognize it!
-
I am totally unfamiliar with "Peabuts".
I know.
I know.As DR Vixmom might be wont to say: "Deatils, deatils, deatils..."
:-*
It is always very important to firm up your deatils... there is nothing worse than a flabby deatil
;D

MBarnum-
You took a photo of that LP when you were out this way. I don't actually know the name of the album or anything. It is extreme easy listening, from Korea I think. There is only one song with an English title: "X+Y=Love"

Apparently so.. What a shame
-
We're very wide, aren't we? If someone can resize edisaurus' pic, we'll be fine.
Re Here On Earth - yes, it's from The Brain - song number two and ironically the second song I wrote after the title song. It's a really important song because it makes our little cartoon play real in a way. It has some heart, which I felt was really important. At the reading it worked like a dream because it made people really like the character who sings it and it also got chuckles exactly when it should have. It's my favorite kind of song to write - one that's hopefully pretty but that makes you smile, too.
As to taping, I would love to have it professionally taped and while it doesn't cost all that much, really, I can't personally afford to do it - if I was being paid for the show I'd use that dough, but I'm not. We'll see what happens. And if it were to be released on DVD, I'd have to get waivers from the cast, which I'm sure they'd do.

I thought it looked familiar. I think it is one I should have listened to as it evidently intrigues me.

re: claire's (cheerleader) friend zach being gay.
I have been reading the televisionwithoutpity forum for HEROES and they seem to think zach is gay. It actually never occured to me. I thought he had a crush on claire.
I wonder if they are changing direction with the character and making him gay? Or maybe that is what they were thinking all along.
I think it is interesting that we will see what everyone was doing 6 months before. Although does that mean that none of them had realized their powers? Might not be too exciting powerwise.
Re: last night's show, did anybody else wonder why Hiro did not show up at the Homecoming? I had been expecting he would (and there was a painting of him and his friend there).
-
You can hear a bit of Here On Earth on the Brain myspace page.

How about a cast recording? )Obviously I am completely ignorant about the costs of producing such a thing)
-
We'd also love to do a cast recording and I'm trying to figure out how to make that happen.
-
Loved HEROES last night.
-
Sorry to hear about Robert Altman.
DH Richard has survived his elaborate dental procedure and is now home enjoying some ice cream.
-
You can hear a bit of Here On Earth on the Brain myspace page.
I am having trouble locating it. Could you please provide me with a link? Thanks!

-
Well my FAVORITE would have to be the original A CHORUS LINE....
I like the NEW one - but the original is my favorite. I also like many of those already mentioned including DREAMGIRLS and WEST SIDE STORY.
-
Favorites (that have already been mentioned) are:
1776
City of Angels
Follies
Into the Woods
A Little Night Music
On the Twentieth Century
Sweeney Todd
I'll actually have to think (don't you hate it when that happens ;)) if I want to mention some that haven't already been mentioned. ::)
;D
-
Sound like the rehearsal went swimmingly! New energy from a new person almost always brings the company up!!!
Congratulations on your choice, MR BK.

JRand, loved the photos, especially the one of Miss Blue Moon. :)
Cillaliz-Send a hello back to JHVW.
Ginny-Good dental vibes to DH Richard.
Vixmom-Congrats on the second job offer.
-
Bruce-Great news about Merrill & the show. :D
-
Bought TEN COMMANDMENTS THE MUSICAL (Val Kilmer IS Moses) and was going to buy WRECK OF THE MARY DEARE, but it seems to be available in a Gary Cooper collection, not ready to pay that price yet....so I bought the SE/WS version of THE DAVINCI CODE which I have not seen.

Ginny-Good dental vibes to DH Richard.
Vixmom-Congrats on the second job offer.
Thanks, DRJANE. As you can tell, she is getting her winter coat. ;D
-
I just read of Robert Altman’s passing. :(
He was very sweet, showing concern for our friend, his employee, on 911. He didn’t need to offer his home for our friend to stay at instead of crossing the bridge to Brooklyn.
-
Sherlock is shedding his puppy coat. The not so little guy wants to go for a walk in the rain.
-
Love the BRAIN page....which I bookmarked. I am a member of MYSPACE...don't have a page yet....but it keeps telling me to log in to become a friend of the brain....but I am logged in....so it's a vicious circle.
I will work on it sometime....when the mood strikes me....sometime.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW....
Robert Altman directed THE JAMES DEAN STORY....and one of my favorite films: NASHVILLE. I also liked his more recent THE COMPANY about a Chicago dance company. ;D
-
The man had a long & good career.
-
Bruce-Nice site. Since I will be flying to Philadelphia on the 8th I will say this now……Have the best birthday ever and a hit show!!
-
Good Morning dear Larry!! Where is the song "Here on Earth " from? Is it part of the Brain score or is it from another show you are doing?
It's one of "The Brain" songs. It's got a great tune.
Thanks for asking. My dad is staying limber and chipper. I've told him he has to stay well until I go back to visit in 2007. I have no idea how much time I've got with him, but outside of some minor problems from a mild stroke in July, he's mobile and sounds good. We have to see how the cancer treats an 85 year-old!
-
I also meant to comment on the lovely Miss Blue Moon!
-
DR Jane, I will pass your greeting on to Jon.
-
DR Ben - South Dakota comes out next week, lol, that should be the title of something

Thanks, DR JRand...I made mine smaller but then it wouldn't let me reattach it!
-
I also liked his more recent THE COMPANY about a Chicago dance company. ;D
Van Dyke Parks was working on that while he was scoring our "Ociee" film. It was fun to get a peak into their creative process!
-
I can't remember if I posted these last two photos of the wood ducks, better twice than not at all.
-
The reeds have been cut down for the winter so the ducks won't land in the pond anymore :(
-
My cousin was a nurse, hired to be the location nurse on a Robert Altman film. He apparently thought she did a good job so he hired her for other films, and would usually put her in as an extra. I had always gotten the impression from her that he was a very nice man. I met him at Sundance in 1991 and he was indeed as nice as she said. I told him that "Popeye" was one of my favorite films and he said you could count the number of people who agreed with me on one hand. I will miss him and his films. (Except for "Prêt-à-Porter"...)
-
I need to take Sherlock for his walk now. It will be good for me too.
I know I’ve said this before, but I have been extremely (an understatement) tired since we got him. It isn’t all him, other factors are contributing to my not taking care of my health as I should.
The result is I haven’t done the things I should to prepare for Bryan’s visit, the upcoming holidays, or my trip to the NIH & my stays in DC or Pennsylvania.
So, I will wish you all a HAPPY THANKSGIVING now and will resist my addiction to HHW & all you wonderful folks. I will return after the weekend.
-
Does North Dakota know?
North Dakota will SAY that it knew all along....
-
Van Dyke Parks was working on that while he was scoring our "Ociee" film. It was fun to get a peak into their creative process!
Oh wow! Love the music and the modern dance in that film is much more entertaining than I usually find such stuff. And the backstage dealing with costumes and budgets was so very realistic.
The dance during the rainstorm was thrilling!! ;D

...veteran TV producer Rick Melchior persuaded the City Council to go with his proposal to make AMN self-sufficient, and even profitable, by selling commercials. In Melchior's first year, AMN's expenses were $788,000 and the station brought in only $75,000 in advertising.
Memories of Melchior, whose programs "Fly," "rock.alt" and "What's the Cover?" were predecessors to the current "Smash," "Red River Rocks" and "Tex-Mix," no doubt created much of the cynicism that greeted Wodlinger's takeover. Like Melchior, who co-founded the Video Music Channel in Atlanta in 1982...

Joshie had some kind of adventure. I didn't see him at all yesterday; he didn't come in and request dinner as usual. I was very worried. This morning he showed up and was very skittish. I got him to come in and shut the doors so he can't get out. He finally calmed down and is napping on the sofa.

LOL, JRand.

Callie decided that I should wake up every hour last night. I think the problem was the cat in the mirror. She gets concerned about that cat every once in awhile - not sure if she wants to meet her or make sure she stays away, but she meows about it, so I have to cover the lower part of the mirror, then she's fine. I'm hoping that's the only problem
-
DR Ben, I heard the S.Dak. quarters were in circulation, too. All I know is the bank said they won't have them until next week. Maybe they are out, but not in Sioux City, lol
-
It's funny, but I had almost mentioned PRÊT À PORTER the other day when we were discussing films that disgusted us. When Altman went wrong he could go waaaay wrong. And come to think of it, I had almost mentioned QUINTET as a fave when Paul Newman was the topic. That movie is fascinating, but almost completely inscrutable.
I have enjoyed many Altman films, including PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION, which is a good capper for his career. He may be the director whose movies I have seen the most of.
Other faves:
McCABE AND MRS. MILLER
CALIFORNIA SPLIT
THAT COLD DAY IN THE PARK
THE PLAYER
BUFFALO BILL AND THE INDIANS (which several of us mentioned the other day for Newman)
3 WOMEN
NASHVILLE

Surely Edisuarus' film Sacco & Vanzetti will attempt to draw parallels between the xenophobia of the twenties and today.

It's funny, but I had almost mentioned PRÊT À PORTER the other day when we were discussing films that disgusted us.
That is the only film in which Greg and I both decided to leave mid-film. Painful. And I'm not a big fan of recording actors ad-libbing lines on 8 tracks and letting them play simultaneously so you can't latch onto any of the lines, a la "Gosford Park". It worked on "Popeye" for me because nobody understood what he was saying in the cartoons, but I l know it bothered other people. I love "The Player". "Shortcuts", "M.A.S.H." and "Brewster McLeod".
-
Robert Altman was an original. I have to agree with other DR's about Pret a Porter....
I also liked THE WEDDING.
-
Or was it...A WEDDING?
-
It is a beautiful day today. It's 54 degrees and sunny. I have found a reason to leave the office for I think it's the 4th time today. Time for another walk.

Does this ring a bell:
Indeed! Rick and his wife were friends of mine from Atlanta and he and I were the first two VMC employees. It originally started out pre-MTV in Austin where 1 hour pods of music videos were assembled on 3/4" cassettes and mass duplicated and sent to various cable affiliates. When they moved their operation to Atlanta, they still sent out the tapes, but we also cablecast live on 4 Atlanta cable systems. Rick and I worked together for about a month auditioning, working on graphics and sets and putting it all together. It was quite a day when we finally went on the air with a live music broadcast featuring Dave Edmunds, the Georgia Satellites (old friends of mine who used to practice in my mom's basement) Tom Chapin and some other local acts.
Rick brought in a great technical director, an old friend of his from Canada, to direct the show. It was wonderful to watch him---he kept everyone calm and held the show together...it was most peoples' introduction to the world of live TV.
After it was all over, we climbed up to the roof for drinking and smoking and all-around decompression. That was one of the most intense days I've ever had, but fun!

John Ford's THE HURRICANE is on TCM tonight. Haven't seen it for many years.
Now that TCM has access to the Paramount/MCA/Universal titles, I keep hoping we will see some early Frances Farmer.....

Robert Altman could make a GREAT movie out of that!! ;D
-
Hey, George, silly question I know but do you have The Symphony Sessions - The Manhattan Transfer?
I just found it at Academy for $9 bucks. I'm a happy camper.
I also found Don't Give the Name a Bad Place, an album by Max Morath with Danny Barker, Clifford Jackson and Dick Hyman at piano and conductor. The subtitle is Types and Stereotypes in American Musical Theatre 1870-1900. They sing songs from the "early days" of American musicals and music hall. Sounds interesting.
-
I just accepted the first job offer (from Friday) I start on Monday. I am very excited and definitely feel I have one more thing to say "Thanks" for on Thursday. Amongst my many blessings, I will of course be counting you, my friends here at HHW.
-
Congrats on the new job, DR Vixmom. That was FAST!
-

Don't know about that, but I'm positive he would have been up on the roof, smoking! ;D
-
Congrats Vixmom!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Congrats on the new job, DR Vixmom. That was FAST!
I was just in the right place at the right time I guess. Like I said, I have a lot to be grateful for.
:D
-
Have jogged, done errands, and must now shave and shower and then be on my way to rehearsal.
-
Looking at Robert Altman's list of credits I can see that I have only seen two of his films...and I did not care for either one. However, I have seen a LOT of his television work from the 50s and 60s.
-
Just because you can never have enough spam in your diet, after 5 years "The Internationale" is released on DVD today (hopefully coming soon to Netflix):

OF COURSE I have TMT's "The Symphony Sessions!" I got it directly from Japan when it was first released (before it was released in the US) but paid more than $9 for it, though. ::) Yes, I MUST have every TMT recording! ;D
I've never heard of "Don't Give the Name a Bad Place." It sounds interesting. I may have to check it out.
-
So sorry to read about Robert Altman. Thankfully, the Academy gave him special recognition before it was too late. Too bad they weren't smart enough to do it with other cinema icons.
-
Oh---and if anyone feels compelled to buy it (if they have any music history lovers on their holiday shopping list) it's cheaper and we make a bit of profit if you buy it through First Run...
I now return you to your regularly scheduled postings!
-
Great news Vixmom. I assume you insisted on access to HHW from work. Congratulations. Now back to normal spending habits!
-
You were right the second time, DR JRand. It was A WEDDING. I liked it very much.
Many of Altman's films I didn't cotton to the first time around, especially NASHVILLE (which I now think is a masterpiece) and BUFFALO BILL AND THE INDIANS (which I enjoy very much now). Loved THE PLAYER and GOSFORD PARK immediately.
The one film of his I haven't seen and want to see is SHORT CUTS.
-
Thanks for that DR Edisaursus.
Now for a release of "Reds".
-
It is POURING rain here, and that on top of it being cold outside makes for a VERY dreary day.
-
I bought a video today titled FIVE MILES TO MIDNIGHT, a 1962 thriller starring Sophia Loren and Anthony Perkins, shot in Paris, directed by Anatole Litvak.
IMDB doesn't have much to say about this flick....has anyone on HHW seen it?
-
Oh...the video was $1.99!
-
Favourite Altman films were "A Wedding" and "Gosford Park".
I found "Company" a disappoinment but it really wasn't an "Altman" film. Didn't he make it as a favor?
-
Congratulations to DR VIXMOM - the Mercury Retrograde ended perfectly for YOU!!
-
However, I've had plenty of fun video offerings to keep me busy today.
I started with HE'S A BULLY, CHARLIE BROWN. Many of the newer Peanuts specials have been VERY lacking during the last decades or two (often made from the comic strips, they lacked continuity and focus, really just became a series of blackouts for the characters), but this newest one was very entertaining. It had a story from beginning to end, and I laughed out loud several times. What's more, it actually let Charlie Brown have a victory for once in his life. A nice surprise!
-
Next up was OLD CHRISTINE, not a very good episode this week though I continue to find Christine's slacker brother appealing in an offbeat sort of way. He really got most of the laugh lines in this week's show.
-
.Now for a release of "Reds".
On Amazon, it says that people who bought the DVD also bought "Reds", "The Conformist" and "1900". We're in good company!
-
CSI: MIAMI had a fascinating episode that ostensibly dealt with the murder of a woman at one of those singles/auctions for charity. In typical CSI fashion, however, it ended up being about something much more deadly serious than that with some real threat and tension established. A good one for the Miami branch of the franchise.
-
Next, I finished THE DA VINCI CODE. Enjoyed it just as much the second time around. I'd be curious to hear from those here that read the book and saw the movie if you felt cheated out of anything significent in the transition from book to screen.
-
Congratulations to DR VIXMOM - the Mercury Retrograde ended perfectly for YOU!!
Gee...maybe that means my water heater will get fixed tomorrow before it explodes and the new lawnmower I just bought aand used once before it stopped working will miraculously heal itself!
-
Next up was a CSI: MIAMI episode from the fourth season boxed set. This was the one dealing with the theft of $10 million in gold bars by a crafty set of grifters masquerading as an upper crust family. Really liked the episode when I saw it last season and found it full of clever plotting and real surprises.
-
Finished the afternoon with an episode of CSI: NY from its second season set. This was the one dealingwith the murder of a marine during Fleet Week. I didn't quite finish the episode, and though I did watch it last season, I don't remember how it ended or who the murderer was. Will look forward to finishing it hopefully tonight.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! ;D ;D
-
DR Jennifer, I'm not sure if you read this, but the CW did renew VERONICA MARS for the rest of the season, but they reduced the order to only 20 episodes instead of the standard 22. The wrter/producer is now deciding how to squeeze in the other two mini-mysteries in the remaining episodes of the season.
(small spoiler about the next mini seasonal mystery after the rapist storyline)
(The current rapist mystery wraps up next week at which time a murder is going to occur that is going to be the next mini-mystery for Veronica to solve.)
-
Very happy about your job news, DR vixmom!
-
Congratulations on your new job, DR Vixmom!
And thanks, everybody, for the vibes for DH Richard. He's feeling much better now.
Soon we will have to go to the basement and try to locate our early Thanksgiving houseguest - we think we have a dead mouse in the furnace :P Even the aroma of pumpkin pies baking can't mask that!
-
DR Edisaurus,
First Run also released on DVD those East German westerns that I have fallen in love with...are you involved with those at all? Or are you involved with First Run only as far as them releasing your films.

They probably wouldn't sell to me because of my Party affiliation :)
Of course I could add this to qualify for free shipping:

No, I really enjoyed both (however, I prefered the books ending scenes at Rosslyn with Sophie's grandmother over the film's).
Did you get the bonus DVD "The Creation of the Di Vinci Code"? It has some nice interview material with Dan Brown expresing how fine a job he thinks Howard and Goldsman did on translating the book to film .

Question for DRs. Is "Reds" awaiting a new cleaned up release or is it available. Mixed messages on Amazon! Last time I checked it was only on VCR and expensive. One Amazon listing says "yet to be released" or whatever. The movie is not available here in OZ as yet.
-

Just for releasing our films. I like their catalogue and am happy to be in their stable!

Tomovoz: Reds is out on DVD here in a special edition.
TOD: the little-known Legrand/David musical Brainchild had an awesome window card which I have. I also managed to get the privately released "OCR" which has some very nice stuff on it.

Well, you sure have mastered the capitalist mantra!
They probably wouldn't sell to me because of my Party affiliation :)
I'm not a Capitalist...I just want to make the world a better place! ;D
I won't make any $ off the release; the profits will go to paying off what it cost to make it. (We still have bills after 5 years.) Then profits will go to paying off Sacco and Vanzetti bills, including the extra 20K to license archival materials for theatrical release, and all the expenses that First Run incurs to publicize the film and make prints. Since the filmmakers make a fraction of the profits anyway, I'm not anticipating ever getting paid for working on this film, but that's not why we made it, anyway. It's the one and only film I've worked on where I wouldn't change anything, except maybe cut 3 frames out of one particular edit.
Im my other life for Turner, Disney et al, I AM a capitalist!
-

No, I got the 2 disc-set but not the set that had that other DVD. I assume there will be some Dan Brown interview footage on the special features disc which I have not gotten to yet.

I'm heading down now to clean the living room before heading off to my friend's house to complete his HDTV installation.

The one film of his I haven't seen and want to see is SHORT CUTS.
The bride of "A Wedding" was one Miss Amy Stryker. Actually, her real name is Amy Irwin, but since Amy Irving was hot at that time, Ms. Irwin used her mother's maiden name.
How do I know this?
Well may you ask.
Ms. Irwin/Stryker is from Greenville SC and was a frequent performer with the Greenville Little Theater. I saw her in several productions. My mom sent me clippings when she was doing the Altman film.

I liked the book and found the movie rather hum-drum except when Sir Ian showed up. The movie was quite faithful to the book until the last 20 minutes when it suddenly wasn't, and I think I'd have liked the film more if it hadn't been so faithful - except for vutting the romance between Hanks and Tautou - and shorter. It was way too long.

Sometimes, hearing a line out of context can work wonders.
Der B is watching NCIS, and someone just emoted the following:
"You've got your greasy fingerprints all over my peanut butter jar!"
Just think of the uses such a line can have!
-
My senses tell me lunch time is drawing nigh.
I'm hoping for some terrific soup at a local eatery known for its soups.
You mean, the soups are the eatery's bread and butter?

Yesterday, I went to rehearsal (first night on the set) and things went...not too badly. :) The real good news is that we got parking passes!! None of us has to pay for parking for the entire run of the show! It's actually for rehearsals this week and next week that we need the passes. All of our performances are on the weekends, when they don't charge for parking. Anyway, it was a nice surprise to find that out! ;D
-
Also yesterday, I bought some new shoes for my Indian costume...it's to die for!! When I went to Payless Shoes to the women's section, there was a woman with her probably 13 year old daughter. There I was, trying on women's shoes and she was watching me. I just smiled and continued with what I was doing. I bought three different kinds, and the director and costume designer made the final decision. They will work with the costume the best and, although they weren't the most comfortable of the three, they weren't the least comfortable.
Now all I need to get are some fishnet stockings! My friend Margo said I should try Lane Bryant. There's a new store here in Olympia, so I'll try that when I leave work, in a few minutes. ;)
-
Off to rehearsal!! ;D

OKAY I have my Robert Altman story.
Altman filmed Quintet (Not one of his best) in Montreal one very cold winter. They main location was (still stanfing at that time) the Man and His World pavillon from Expo 67.( These pavillon's were not winterize as they were all meant to be torn down after the fair. They remained standing for several more years and from time and elements finally were bought down.)
Back to the story.
My father's old law firm was retained as council for the film. An American production filming in Canada. I heard alot of stories, but one remained in my memory.
Of course the usual stories of rampant drug use (Cocaine the drug of choice when they watched the dailies. "They were stoned" as it was told to me.
Nina Van Pallandt was in the film (Best know as part of the Howard Hughes book hoax). Her character was killed in the film by having a skewer driven through her face..
That night Altman had his chef prepare for shiskabob for the cast as the farewell dinner for Nina Van Pallandt.
-
And I forgot to post this earlier in honor of Merrill's arrival in LA and joining the cast of The Brain From Planet X
There's a new girl in town and she's looking good.
There's a fresh freckled face, in the neighborhoood.

I love Der Brucer's new avatar!
Happy Noo Job, Vixmom!
Okay, off to read another 300 or so pages before beddie bye...

I've had a busy evening. Since I wasn't slated to go to my friend's house until 7, I watched the end of the CSI: NY episode I was watching and then put in MURDER SHE WROTE so I could finish the second disc in that latest set. This was the one concerning Jessica posing as an injuired Joan Caulfield only to learn that her late sister owned a brothel called the Garden of Eden in Oregon. MacDOnald Carey, Stuart Whitman, and Roy Thinnes were among the guest stars.
-
Page Seven ALICE IN WONDERLAND Dance!!!
-
The work at Jeff's house was accomplished in about ten minutes. He's got family coming in tomorrow, so everything should be ready for them media-wise now.
-
However, driving there and back I had to go through a torrential rain, and it continued for a couple of hours after I got home.
-
I watched the last half of the Tony Bennett special.
Kudos to NBC for filming the show in high definition. I honestly didn't expect it. He's certainly had a long, interesting career, and that was quite a guest roster he had singing along with him tonight.
-
LAW & ORDER: CI had a story about the murder of a former sitcom star who had hit a rough patch and was making a living selling illegal videos. Sad story, but nice to see Dee Hoty playing his mother in one all-too-brief scene.
-
And nip/tuck sure pulled out the guest stars tonight:
Catherine Deneuve
Brenda Vacarro
Rebecca Gayheart
Jacqueline Bisset
Brooke Shields
Mario Lopez
and more corners turned in the lives of these two plastic surgeons.
-
Heading down for bed now. I have to be up earlier than usual for my six month check-up at the dentist tomorrow.
Good night!
-
I just saw the beginning of Drawn Together after Colbert, my nightly tv show, and the characters were watching "The Amazing Race...Riot". I've never seen TAR but it made me laugh anyway.
-
North Dakota will SAY that it knew all along....
And South Dakota hates to admit it, but being gay is the most important part of its personality.
-
Whew! I had just completed putting together my cookbooks the other night when I had the ridiculous idea of checking the laptop to see if there were the same number of recipes in the program as there are in the desktop I'm working on.....there were 30 more - 340 in all.
So, I have now added 30 recipes, taken things apart and rearranged them. I have the changes for all the books copied, but one copy actually complete. Mom wants to see it at Thanksgiving before I give it to everyone. Since they are her recipes, it's a little hard to say no, lol. I think she'll like it.
-
Congrats on the new job Vixmom!!! It sounds like this change was meant to be. Hope you will be much happier there.
Congrats on the Internationale relase, Edi. May your efforts be rewarded and your debts paid off!
-
With that, I must sleep. Tomorrow will be a good day at the office, most of the people there are either gone or will be leaving by noon. It will be a great day to organize my office, get a few things done. Catch up on correspondance, that sort of thing. I'm looking forward to it.
-
Night!

Isn't the capital of South Dakota, Peter?
I know he's not a Boy named Sioux.

Back from rehearsal and another late-night supper. Must now write some notes.
