Well, you've read the notes, the notes were weird, and now it is time for you to post until the weird cows come home.

Casey would waltz
With a strawberry blonde
But she accidentally stepped on his foot
And what followed was a torrential BILLINGSGATE from Casey
None of which can be repeated on a family site such as this.

(Michael Richards was present at the time, and decided to steal some of the material for his own act.)

I really should get back to bed.

I woke up about an hour ago, raspy throat, and have been waiting for the cough medication to kick in.

Now, all I have is a headache.

*bleh*

Later.

Good morning, all!  I'm of out bed but I am hardly awake.  I had anothyer night of crazy dreams, one about going to college which was both a dormitory and a construction site, another about my brothers and me fighting over money, and one about driving through Oxford, Ohio, God knows why.  Perhaps it was all the same dream?

Tomorrow is a holiday, and I shall spend a portion of it with our DR Fred, Skip, and several guests.  The rest of my day will be spent on band parts for "The Brain," as will most of my life for the next two weeks.

And so to work!

I'm not awake but am getting ready for work.  Work will be busy for me since I m filling in for about 5 people who are off this week.  Tomorrow is indeed Turkey Day, but we're not having turkey.  I decide i was a big person and didn't have to spend the day with family.  So Lyn and David and I will have tacos (or watever we manage to find) and see a movie.  I will later in the evening show David "First Nudie Musical" and if we have time , "The Creature Wasn't Nice."

I'm really looking forward to the brain-- it's the one part of Christmas/December I am looking forward to this year.

Happy holiday to all you dear people!  MWAH! :-*

Hello, Kerry!!
Let us all know how you like your non-traditional Thanksgiving, won't you? One year I went to a fish restaurant with friends; another year I cooked Indian food, which I adore, then went to a movie with a friend.  Personally, I still prefer a more traditional feast, but it was interesting to try something new. Have a lovely holiday and hello to Lyn.

Wednesday morning greetings!  I woke up early this morning in the early stages of what my son calls "holiday head."  That's the condition I develop when there are too many details - food, tables, chairs, dishes, etc. running around in my brain.  Yes, our Thanksgiving extravaganza is now up to 14 and I have tons to do today.  It's all about tradition here at our house.

Here's my question, inspired by DR Kerry's plans for tacos tomorrow:

What's the most untraditional Thanksgiving you've ever had?

Mine was 1977, when, still both single, my friend Becky and I went to NYC for the holiday weekend.  We saw 5 shows and on Thanksgiving Day went to the Macy's parade and ate dinner at Mamma Leone's.

I've got the oven warming right now so I can roast some chestnuts.

We don't have a fireplace, which kinda wrecks the whole "on an open fire" thing anyways.

I suppose I could roast them over a gas flame on my stove, but that doesn't have exactly the same flair.

I've had too many Thanksgivings, back when we lived in Long Beach, where der B put off until the very last minute deciding it was time to eat.  We would then drive around like crazy as he tried to find a restaurant that was still open, where we could plunk down and have a middlin to lousy meal, being glared at by servers who wished we would go home so that they could.

Life is better, now that I have a kitchen that works like a real kitchen, and know how to cook.

The menu for tomorrow:

Roast Turkey Breast and Thighs, with Sage

Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Stove Top Stuffing (yes, I know, it's processed food  :-\)
with Celery, Onion, and Bacon

Chestnut and Mushroom Gravy

Green Beans with Almonds

Cranberry Jelly (again, processed, but it would look strange
without those funny ridges from the can, right?)

Oh, I forgot, we've got rolls to warm up, too.

And der B is going to make a cranberry/orange sauce, hopefully today so it will naturally jell.

I'm going to try to get as much done in advance as I can, tonight after work, since I'll be working tomorrow as well and it would be nice to have dinner sometime before midnight.

Tonight's dinner?  It's scrounge night, raiding for leftovers.

As we move to Page 2 I say Hoo and Ray. My small end of year project is now out of my hands. It took longer to do this year because the Foundation Center is 50 years old and that's an occasion for "rebranding" meaning a portion of the introduction for all my books had to be rewritten and reformatted. That affected 12 books. I just finished proofing the final corrections and my supervisor will finish looking at them Monday. They will ship to the printer on Tuesday and be in print by mid-December. By that time I will be on vacation, either volunteering for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS or in the Berkshires with Anthony visiting a friend or back in the city in full holiday swing.

Happy Turkey Day (or alternative feast day) if I don't pop in before I leave!

My roasty-toasty nuts have been shelled, and the sweet meats are now resting in the refrigerator.

Good morning!

It rained most of the night. It was certainly raining every time I woke up and rolled over, and it's been raining all morning, too.

I got less sleep than usual because I had my six month check-up at the dentist, and my appointment was for 8 a.m.  Happily all teeth checked out fine, so that's over for another half year. Always a relief to put that behind me.

Good morning!  I'm trying to remember a Thanksgiving when I didn't have turkey....hmm...I can't remember one. My most untraditional thanksgiving would have been when I lived in Phoenix. I never came back to Iowa for Thanksgiving. Holidays were very hard for me back then since I had no family there.  I think the one I remember was shortly after I got divorced.

I was a regular at a local bar we had an "orphans" Thanksgiving for all the people who were away from their families.  It was in the community room of an apartment complex. We had a huge tv to watch games and with all the restaurant people there, we had a fabulous spread of turkey and all the trimmings.  A lot of the group were local musicians who hung out there. Around 7:00 PM the bar/restaurant opened and we did an open mic with everyone well into the evening. It was a lot of fun and made the day special.
Title: Re:THE WEIRD DAY
Post by: S. Woody White on November 22, 2006, 08:14:09 AM
The "orphans" phenomenon, Cilla, can be a great way around the lack of a genetic family.  I know of several gay bars in the Long Beach area that hold Thanksgiving spreads for their regulars (and whomever else happens to drop by).  The spreads may not be the most lavish, certainly not the most costly, but they are quite welcome.

One Thanksgiving, der Brucer and I dashed across the street from our watering hole, The Crest, to a grocery store to gather up a bunch of pies, the one thing the owner had forgotten!

I could be wrong, but this doesn't seem to be a custom here on the East Coast, at least not around Rehoboth.  Maybe the ties that bind us to our families are stronger here.  Either that, or the blue laws are stronger.   :-\

DR Cillaliz - I wouldn't trade my family for anything, but also agree that the "orphan" gatherings can be as meaningful as (sometimes more than) the more traditional ones.  When I was growing up, we lived away from my parents' extended families.  My mom and dad had several couple friends who were in the same situation and one family, in particular, became ours for Thanksgiving.  The father (may he rest in peace) in that family was an OB/GYN who delivered my sister's children and who said grace at the dinner following Richard's and my wedding.

One of the funniest Thanksgivings I've ever had was my second Thanksgiving in Sioux City. I had been in my little stucco bungalow (the one I just sold last summer) for a year. My brothers family and sisters family decided to all get together in Joplin. My parents and I decided we didn't want to do the drive that year, so I hosted Thanksgiving at my house and invited both my next door neighbors, one a widow who really kept to herself a lot  and one who was about 60 then, had never married and was a retired elementary school teacher and a real busy-body (all stereotypes applied at the time)

They were so funny - they were catty back and forth. The school teacher started in about some people down the block living in sin and the widow told her she should try it, it may loosen her up. It went on and on liked that. No one was offended and we laughed until we cried.

My first question for ASK BK day....when you are directing a multi act play, do you wait until the end of rehearsal to give ALL notes, or do you give ACT ONE notes after Act One and Act Two notes after Act Two?

I like to give them all at the end of the evening....

On Deceit I found it helpful to give Act One notes after Act One, but that was the only time I think I've ever done that, except for once or twice on What If.  On The Brain, notes are at the end.  I may, however try an experiment next week and give notes the next day prior to the run-through.

DR JMK, it sounds like the "Health Food Man" song from BABES IN TOYLAND, which no one knows:

JOHN JOHNSON WAS A MAN WHO HAD
 A VERY TIRED DIGESTION
THEREFORE, HIS MEALS TO JOHNSON WER
 AN INTERESTING QUESTION.
HE PONDERED LONG, HE PONDERED DEEP,
 AND CAME TO THE CONCLUSION
THE FOOD THAT COMMON MORTALS EAT
 IS WHOLLY A DELUSION
AND SO HIS GOLD HE FREELY SPENT—
 FOR HE WAS VERY WEALTHY,
ON EVERY SORT AND KIND OF FOOD
 THEY ADVERTISE AS HEALTHY.

THEN EVERY MORN ON ALMOST CORN,
     HIS BREAKFAST HE WOULD MAKE
A PLATTER NEAT OF NEARLY WHEAT
     FOR LUNCHEON HE WOULD TAKE
HE ON THE BRAIN HAD OAT-O-GRAIN
     AND COUNTED LOST THE DAY
IF HE SHOULD FAIL TO EAT A BALE
     OF EXPURGATED HAY!

WHEN ANYONE TALKED FOOD TO HIM,
 JOHN JOHNSON GREW EXCITED
HE SAID ALL BUTCHERS OUGHT TO BE
 ARRESTED AND INDICTED
HE NEVER TOUCHED A STEAK OR CHOP,
A FACT OF WHICH HE BOASTED
AND WHEN JOHN JOHSON SPOKE OF BEEF
 THE BEEF WAS ALWAYS ROASTED
AGAINST ALL LAMB, AND HAM, AND JAM,
 HIS ELOQUENCE WAS TIDAL,
HE SAID DESSERT WAS SUDDEN DEATH
 AND SOUP WAS SUICIDAL!

HE DINED, ‘TIS SAID, ON BREADLESS BREAD,
   IT’S NAME MY MIND ESCAPES,
EACH EVENING LATE HE GORGED A PLATE
   OF SEMI-SAWDUST GRAPES,
HE ATE THESE THINGS FOR SEVEN WEEKS,
   THE FACT CAN’T BE DENIED.
HIS HEALTH GREW BETTER TILL ONE DAY
   HE OF STARVATION DIED!

The office is semi-quiet today.

Only half our staff is here.

The agency director's secretary has been arranging three huge pots of poinsettias outside the boss' office this morning.  Looks like the holidays have hit us.

I have been thinking about what movie(s) I might treat myself over the next four days, other than new ones I haven't yet watched.

What holiday titles do I want to indulge in?  What DVDs do I have that are Thanksgiving-friendly?

The one DVD that springs to mind, however, is Brian DePalma's "Carrie."

I don't know why.

I'm reminded, as I post solo this morning, of a bit of dialogue from "The Ruling Class".

A doctor is asking the believed-to-be-mad heir to a title/estate why he believes himself to be God.

"Whenever I pray, I find I'm talking to myself," he replies.

For all TAR fans did you know the next installment of TAR will be THE AMAZING RACE allstars?

I'm not really sure who will be involved (although i think it has started filming).

I heard there will be no winners. What do you guys think about that?

Rumored to have been seen at the airport: Rob and amber, charla and mirna, and the guidos.  My sis said she read Joyce and Uchenna and maybe even dave and mary (from kentucky).

I love romber so i am happy. Hopefully some of my other favorites will make it (i like competitive).

Back in the 80's, I used to have my "orphan" VMC co-workers over to my house for T-Day. Now it's much more complicated. My parents are divorced so I don't see my father. We cook the turkey to take to my mom's house where there will be @ a dozen people, then rush over to Greg's parents, an hour south of there, and try to celebrate the same with them. (You really have to pace your food intake for this event.)

I'm hoping this year Greg will be able to get our stove working...it's been out of commision for over a year. We bought the turkey last year already prepared and it was tasty but not as good as mine, which is cooked with French shallots in a bottle of champagne. (No jokes about how I got the turkey into the bottle, please!)

Until then, I'm stuck here looking at 30+ hours of comic relief footage.

Next year I hope to have everyone at our new house for T-Day and no more rushing around from house to house!

For those not inclined to do "The Turkey Trot" this year, consider "Ballin' the Jack":

First, you put your two knees close up tight,
then you sway 'em to the left, and you sway 'em to the right.
Step around the floor kinda nice
and light then you twist around and twist around with all of your might.
Stretch your lovin' arms straight out in space,
then you do the Eagle Rock with style and grace.
Swing your foot way 'round and bring it back,
now that's what I call Ballin' the Jack!

I could be wrong, but this doesn't seem to be a custom here on the East Coast, at least not around Rehoboth.  Maybe the ties that bind us to our families are stronger here.  Either that, or the blue laws are stronger.   :-\

Actually, there is a different "capitalist" reason. In Delaware what are normally called "bars" are illegal (there are three "grandfathered "establishments in the state): venues that serve alcoholic beverages must have a full-service kitchen, and 80% of their revenue must be derived from food sales (I'm sure the accountants have a grand time with this). So, a waterhole that offered a free buffet would be competing with its own kitchen!

The loss leaders are the weeknight reduced rate meals.

For fans of Big Brother:

Department of State to Introduce Passport Card (http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2006/74083.htm)
Quote
To facilitate the frequent travel of those living in U.S. border communities and those traveling on commercial maritime vessels, the Department of State has committed to producing a passport card that incorporates cutting-edge technology. The technology incorporated in the proposed card was designed in coordination with DHS specifically to address the operational needs of land border-crossings. The proposed passport card would use long-range, or vicinity, radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to link the card to a secure U.S. government database containing biographical data and a photograph. The card itself will not contain any personal information, and DHS will implement protections to keep the database secure.
Note: the use of RFID technology means agentts can pick you out of a crowd based on a card in your wallet!

Wonder what the new Passport requirements will mean to U.S. Canadian tourism? Just think Native Born U.S. Citizens will soon need a passport to return from a walk across the Rainbow Bridge in Niagra Falls!

Hopefully, the roads will be lightly travelled.

I am looking forward to assembling my stew components and getting the cooking going.

COPS SHOOT, KILL 92-YEAR-OLD WOMAN AFTER SHE OPENS FIRE ON THEM (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,231364,00.html)
Quote
ATLANTA — A police official said narcotics officers were justified in returning fire on a 92-year-old woman they shot to death after she shot them as they tried to serve a warrant at her house.

Assistant Chief Alan Dreher said the officers had a legal warrant and "knocked and announced" before they forced open the door. He said they were justified in shooting once they were fired upon.

As the plainclothes Atlanta police officers approached the house about 7 p.m., a woman inside started shooting, striking each of them, said Officer Joe Cobb, a police spokesman.

One was hit in the arm, another in a thigh and the third in a shoulder. The officers were taken to a hospital for treatment, and all three were conscious and alert, police said.

Sarah Dozier, identified as a niece of the woman, told WAGA-TV that there were never any drugs at the house.
"My aunt was in good health. I'm sure she panicked when they kicked that door down," Dozier said. "There was no reason they had to go in there and shoot her down like a dog."

Rev. Markel Hutchins, a civil rights leader, said Johnston's family deserves an apology.

"Of the police brutality cases we've had, this is the most egregious because of the woman's age," Hutchins said.

Apology, my ass >:(  She opened fire, and reaped the expected result. I hope the cops sue her estate for damages! Does the good Rev think the police should check birth certificates before returning fire? Does Granny get a free shot for every decade over age 60

Concur.  It's a sad, tragic tale.  Fact is, though, "Granny" wasn't all there if she couldn't tell the difference between an intruder and the police.

Instead of a gun, maybe she should have invested in a hearing aid.

The police cannot ALWAYS be at fault in such cases.

Is any movie currently being "buzzed" about?
OSCAR FRENZY (http://www.oscarfrenzy.com/category/predictions/2007-predictions/)
Quote
Breaking and Entering - The Weinstein Company
Dreamgirls - Dreamworks/Paramount
Flags of Our Fathers - Dreamworks/Warner Bros.
The Good Shepherd - Universal
United 93 - Universal

The favorite at this point has got to be Dreamgirls. The advance buzz has been terrific and a limited screening of select scenes reportedly drew raves. Furthermore, after a couple years of relatively depressing, issue-driven films, the Academy mgiht be ready to embrace a rousing, show-stopping musical. Closely behind Dreamgirls are Eastwood’s Flags of Our Fathers and De Niro’s CIA drama The Good Shepherd. Though skeptics doubt Eastwood can follow up Million Dollar Baby with a second Best Picture win, if anyone can do it, it’s the Clint. One question here is whether audiences are up for another war movie, especially given the state of current events.

Goya’s Ghosts, directed by Milos Forman and starring Javier Bardem and Natalie Portman, is probably next on the step ladder. One obstacle dogging this picture is whether or not it will be finished in time, being that it is still currently in production. Forman, as well, could be a little rusty being that he has not directed a film since Man on the Moon.

Two fillms that were once high on the Best Picture radar, but now sinking fast, are Scorsese’s The Departed and Steven Zaillian’s All the King’s Men remake. Early reviews of Marty’s gang thriller reveal it to be unfocused and in need of better editing. While this is typical for Scorsese films, this is never a good sign. All the King’s Men, meanwhile, suffers from the fact that the original already won a Best Picture. That, along with the film’s release date being pushed back twice do not bode well.

Speaking of also-rans, perhaps the biggest one is Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, which got trashed at Cannes. We could have told you so. Something about Kristen Dunst as the French ‘heroine’ just didn’t seem right.

Two of the biggest question marks of the fall season are Mel Gibson’s Mayan epic Apocalypto and Emilio Estevez’s Bobby. While both certainly have the potential of being Best Picture material, they also run the risk of catering only to a select audience. With Apocalypto, the big question may be whether or not this is more of an adventure film or a historical epic. The fact that Passion of the Christ was passed over a few years back could possibly help Gibson with Academy voters.

Come the morrow, someone will need this:

Troubleshooting Thanksgiving: The Turkey Is Still Frozen (http://www.realsimple.com/realsimple/package/0,21861,1119186-1119770,00.html)

Quote
Problem
It’s 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Dinner is at 2 p.m. And the turkey, which has been thawing for days in the refrigerator, still feels frozen solid.

Solution
Give the bird a cold bath. Water is a much better conductor of heat than air in the refrigerator, so this method works faster, says Robert L. Wolke, professor emeritus of chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh and the author of What Einstein Told His Cook 2 (W.W. Norton, $26, www.amazon.com). Fill a large bucket or the kitchen sink with cool water and plunge the bird in, in the original wrapper, breast-side down.

If the turkey has been defrosting in the refrigerator for several days, a mere half hour may do the trick. If you need to defrost a fully frozen turkey on the double, allow half an hour per pound. The U.S. Department of Agriculture advises changing the water every 30 minutes or so. (Birds labeled “fresh” can be chilled to 26° F, which explains why such turkeys can unexpectedly turn out to be partially frozen. The USDA suggests that you buy a fresh turkey no more than 2 days before you roast it.) No matter how dire the situation, don’t thaw a turkey at room temperature.

There was one interesting group in my lane at the store today.  They consisted of five oriental men and women, all of whom were deaf.  They had no problem communicating with each other, of course, but I have no knowledge of sign language, and there was a question on the price of one of the items being bought.

The "leader" of the group finally suggested that he and I communicate in writing.  I felt like such a dork, not thinking of this myself, since I always have a pen and notepad with me.

All ended happily, of course.  It's amazing how much can be conveyed with body language and a positive attitude.  And these guys (and gals) were good.

This is no excuse, of course, but just some context: The plumber who was working at our house today is based near where this happened. It's a very high crime area---big drug business there---and it was apparenly pretty common for drug dealers/criminals to pound on someone's door and yell "police", and then force their way in when the door was open. This woman had apparently had this happen several times and had been robbed and so she took the law into her own hands. No excuse, and this could all be heresay, but it's another perspective on the case, which is a very sad one.

Tonight I started the movie of OLIVER! with the introduction of Fagin and watched the rest of it.

Yes, once again I'm going to be auditioning for Fagin, this time at the theater where I did LA CAGE last year and for the director who cast me  as Father Virgil in NUNCRACKERS a couple of years ago.

I have to say, however, that whether I get the role or not, this is my last time auditioning for it. I've tried at two different theaters over the last six or seven years, and I consider this my third swing at bat. Three strikes and I'm out as far as this role is concerned.

I've only once before auditioned for the same role and lost it three times at three different theaters: Herbie in GYPSY. I'll never try for that one again, and this is my last attempt with Fagin.

After OLIVER! finished, I watched about half an hour of HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE on HBO-HD. Looked nice, but as HBO often does, the widescreen image has been cropped on the sides to fit the screen, even in HD. So stupid of them to do this.

I watched last night's 3 LBS. a little after 8 p.m. tonight. Last week, I thought the pilot was OK but sort of a straw hat theater version of HOUSE.

This week, it seems they've softened Stanley Tucci's character somewhat, and how the show is a straw hat version of GREY'S ANATOMY except with somewhat older leading characters.

The show was OK, but not memorable enough to be a must-see for me. I'll give it one more episode to impress me, and then I drop it from the watch-list.

BTW, it once again finished third in the time slot last night, not suggesting that word of mouth drew many folks to it for a return visit.

DAY BREAK took Tye Diggs through his day twice more, each time seeing different people getting killed (depending on what he did) but also learning some valuable connections so he can start to puzzle out who's setting him up to take the fall for a murder he didn't commit.

There's nothing else on in the 9 p.m. hour, so for right now, I'm content to keep watching. We also get a brief scene from LOST which returns in February.

MEDIUM had a fabulous episode tonight, as Allison (like Taye Diggs in his show) relived the same day with different (often horrifying) changes from day to day.

But I love how it all fell together. A great payoff for the viewer at the end.

BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't Patricia Arquette's Emmy submission episode, especially that jaw dropping monologue she delivers to Ariel about changing her attitude. What an eye-opener!

I understand you can't copyright ideas, only expressions of ideas.  But isn't the idea of waking up over and over and things changing over and over so closely associated with GROUNDHOG DAY that when others do it it's sort of a steal?  Or was the idea not original to GROUNDHOG DAY in the first place?

Hello... http://www.guntheranderson.com/liqueurs/cranberr.htm

I don't handle lines like:

And if you use the rubber rings like I do, clean them as well. You can't spend enough time cleaning.

very well :-X

Though I think I'd prefer some sort of cranberry wine or liqueur.

Another ask BK:

I have a paypal account, but I am having trouble linking up from your site to paypal. Also can I order multiple copies and get reduced postage rate?

Or

Can I pick them up when I am in LA to see the show?

There should be no problem with paypal, at least on our end.  I believe there's one shipping rate that covers up to five CDs - maybe six bucks or something.  You can pick them up whilst in LA if that's easier.

I have another ask BK question.

I was listening to your King and I recording tonight and was wondering  why you elected not to record The Small House of Uncle Thomas. (I think you explained it once, but I forgot.)

Also were the other numbers like: The Royal Bangkok Academy, Priest Chant/Children Sing, A Puzzlement (Reprise with Louis & Chulalonglork) and Western People Funny omitted from the recording because they were dropped from this production?

Thanks

Adding Small House would have taken us over the time limit where pressing plants guarantee pressings, which was common back then - today we'd probably chance it, but it also had to do with trying to get the entire album done in one day.  And we were recording a particular production, so yes, that's why those numbers weren't included.

One more:

Is contracted to have the cast and production credits on the back cover instead of the song listings?

We've done it both ways - has nothing to do with contracts - it's just what we did for that cast album.

Back from a two run-through day and dinner, and must now relax for five minutes and then write the notes.

Tonight's rehearsal of Cannibal:  The Musical went quite well. :) We were told that a reviewer from a local paper was going to be there to watch, but it turns out that she got very, very sick and couldn't be there!  Yea!  We were told that she got permission from her boss to see our show on our final (and open) dress rehearsal on October November 30th and that she could turn in the review first thing in the morning of December 1st.  Whew.

Anyway, we wore as many costume pieces as we could...my Indian costume still needs tweaking, but it'll be fabulous! ;) And my quick change might not be as quick as I thought it was going to be, but then we weren't doing any makeup. ::) That'll make it more difficult, but we'll see.  Otherwise, we got through it and I remembered all of my lines! ;D

AARRGGHH!!  I forgot to record this. >:( FORTUNATELY, my niece tapes this so I can watch her tape...but I couldn't watch it when I got home from rehearsal, when I really wanted to.  ::)

Wow! Cilla! In the blink of an eye, your avatar changed! Looks very summery where you are!

That's a very nice picture!  You look like you're having fun. :D

Yes, I understand completely, but with a little tweak - and I'm talking changing a couple lines,  the story would have held up and that's what bugs me.

You should write the show and tell them to hire you as their legal advisor!  You could make big bucks...probably. ::)

;D

I mean, theoretically, someone could do a musical with the overall premise of GROUNDHOG DAY without getting the rights to GROUNDHOG DAY, as long as they invented their own procession of events, if these shows can do it on TV - or am i missing something?

Maybe the idea of one day (or time period) repeating over and over is too general a concept to have to attribute it to "Groundhog Day."  And I'm pretty sure that "Groundhog Day" was either a book, novella or a short story first, so who knows how far back the idea really goes. :-\

I also remember reading several years ago that Stephen Sondheim bought the stage musical rights to the property.  I wonder if he'll ever get to it??  I'd love to see/hear what he'd do.
