Well, you've read the notes, the note baffled and amazed you, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they don't want to come home, frankly, now that tom turkey has.

Thanksgiving morning greetings!  I'm enjoying a relaxing cup of coffee or 2 before waking DH Richard for the big turkey procedure - we're like a surgical team, getting the bird cleaned, stuffed, laced, and in the oven.  It'll go in at 9am, just in time for me to sit in front of the TV and watch the Broadway performances from Herald Square.

Turkey Lurkey Time

It's turkey lurkey time
Tom turkey ran away, but he just came home
It's turkey lurkey time
He's really home to stay, never one to roam
Let's make a wish, and may all our wishes come true.......
A snowy, blowy christmas, a mistletoey christmas
A turkey lurkey christmas to you...
A turkey lurkey christmas to you
It's loosey goosey time
She was a gadabout, but she's back again
It's loosey goosey time
Her time is running out, and we all know when
Let's make a wish, and may all our wishes come true....
A snowy, blowy christmas, a mistletoey christmas
A loosey goosey christmas to you...
A loosey goosey christmas to you
Turkey lurkey, loosey goosey
Some for uncle joe, some for cousin lucy
Everybody gather round the table
Dig in, dinner is being served
Eat all the turkey you are able
Can't you see a partridge in a pear tree?
Climb up and bring it down for me
That's something i would like to see
A snowy, blowy christmas, a mistletoey christmas
A turkey lurkey christmas to you......
Jingle bells, jingle bells x 15

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Tonight on tv for me: Survivor and Ugly Betty.

Last night I watched Medium. It is on here at 8pm (yeah, since i have nothing else on at that time).

I also really enjoyed it. I always do.  It was weird though to have her live her day over (since that is the premise of the taye diggs show on the same night).

One thing i will say is that although i liked the ending, the last run through of the day did happen quite fast. I was a bit surprised that her boss did what he did, Which resulted in a very quick conclusion.

DR MattH, re: Veronica mars.

I don't get the previews for next week. Not sure if i would watch them.  All the CW promos are a bit iffy here (since i watch on fox). Often i see the promo without hearing the sound. but for Veronica I don't think i ever see them.

Although that said, since previews are not considered spoilers on the forum i read, sometimes i get bits and pieces (i try to avoid it when i can). So usually i have slight idea.

As for this week's show. It was good as always. It is definitely one of my favorites. Always makes you think.  And the ending was so sad, watching logan.

Good morning, dear friends!  And a happy Thanksgiving Day to you wherever you may be.  Since Tom Murray and I are taking a day away from Toyland, we worked until midnight last night.  I got home around 12:30, watched MEDIUM, which I too enjoyed, browsed through the new Jerome Robbins biography that arrived from Amazon.com, and got to bed around 2 AM.

Good morning, Woody!  I'll bet your kitchen is warm and smelling good this morning!

Outside of a very frustrating ninety minutes with the office copier yesterday, the day was quite wonderful: smooth work on "The Brain," successful errand runs, and a good Toyland session.  Today, I'm looking forward to dinner at DR FJL's with Skip's wonderful cooking, Dylan, Toby, and several sparkling guests.

TOD:  As a snooty young man, I never apprerciated this holiday much:  my grandmother, as many of my mother's siblings and their families in the vicinity would descend upon my Aunt Jean's home in Hamilton, Ohio, from around 1 PM to 7 PM for a huge meal. My Aunt Lois and her family in Columbus, Ohio, only showed up sporadically because of the drive and tending their farm, but the families of my Aunts Ruth, Jean, Dorothy, and Uncles Paul and Bob guaranteed a huge turnout.  On Chrtistmas day, my parents were the hosts. The problem was, there were cousins I liked immensely and cousins I detested.  On Thanksgiving I was stuck with the everyone of them. It was never a day I appreciated.

Everyone brought something, and the day was usually filled with reminiscence, drudged up angst, and nothing on tv but football, which I loathed.  I never looked forward to any of this, but in the past 30 years I've lost my mother, all of her siblings but her youngest brother Bob whose health is quite fragile, my cousin Tommy to leukemia, and there's nothing I wouldn't give to see them all again.

I love your new picture, Cillaliz!

I have a FOUR DAY OFF WEEKEND... lots of time this morning to do my reading, work on the two papers due next week, finish the take-home exam, prepare my Visual Aid for the final speech in my Comm class on Tuesday... and head to my sister Rikki's for the annual family get-together!

Each person in the family gets a holiday every year at their house - Rikki has Thanksgiving, Tami has Passover, Mike has Hannukah... Penny has July 4 up at the cabin, but so far NOBODY has come up... Maybe I'll do Groundhog Day down here in LA... oops, nope, it falls on the first Friday of February... got my marathon weekend... I'll think of something!

So, y'all, have a safe drive to wherever you're going, and a delicious and harmonious Turkey and All the Trimmings Day!

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it today!

We have a simply beautiful day here for our celebration. The storms of the past two days have left my front yard covered in downed limbs and rubbish, so at some point over the next couple of days, I'll have to go out and get that cleaned up. The front yard is still too soggy to go out there today.

I can't say that I have a single Thanksgiving that stands out in my mind. I always loved Thanksgiving day food so much that I'd beg my mom to cook THanksgiiving for us several times during the year, and she'd usually oblige. I can remember big holiday celebrations with lots of family and intimate dinners with just my immediate family. Frankly, I think they were always more fun than Christmas dinners because people were so exhausted by the time CHristmas day rolled around, but Thanksgiving seemed to be easier-going.

I don't think GROUNDHOG DAY was the first time the "repeat the day" idea was used. DEAD OF NIGHT does it, and Preston Sturges' UNFAITHFULLY YOURS does a variation of it, too. And those were just the first two that popped into my head.

I do have two shows from last night to watch (THE NINE and CSI: NY), but I will spend most of the day with DVDs, and probably all day tomorrow (wouldn't catch me out trying to shop under ANY circumstances).

There are UGLY BETTY, CSI, and GREY'S ANATOMY new episodes tonight, but I'll see all of them before I get back on at 11 p.m. to give my viewing rundown, so that will leave nothing for tomorrow's viewing.

Also highly memorable were the T-Day trips my buddy Roseanna Irwin and I took to Myrtle Beach, just the two of us, enjoying southern foods and many seafoods for the holiday. . .

What I like most about Thanksgiving: It is a nice holiday where we remember to give thanks for our blessings to whomever we worship. And this holiday hasn't been highjacked as a gift-giving occasion. And the turkey soup!

What I dislike about Thanksgiving: All the dishes to wash!

The three main holidays in my family were Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.

Easter was mandated to be held at my father's parent's home in Riverside, CA.  It included attending church, and dinner after.

Christmas and Thanksgiving, on the other hand, rotated between our place (Burbank), the home of his brother's family (first in Riverside, later moved to San Diego), and the home of his cousin Bob (Sepulveda, part of the western San Fernando Valley) and his family.

If either holiday was spent at our place, the turkey was roasted on a spit over our barbeque.  This saved space in the oven for other foods.

But I don't remember anything special about the holidays, not really.  At times, I felt like an outcast, since all of my cousins were of the female gender.  The closest male of my generation was Bob Jr., and he was about ten years my senior.  We didn't have reason to bond much.

Would I like to have a Thanksgiving with my Dad again?  Sure.  He's just a continent away, but it would be great to get to know my step-mom's family.

Would I like to spend a Thanksgiving with my sister again?  No.  What Larry has said about his sister-in-law with the last name MacBeth pretty well sums up my relationship with my sibling.  Der Brucer would agree.

To be honest, I'm looking forward to today at work.  Last minute shopping for forgotten ingredients, picking up complete dinners from the deli (we sell a lot of those), and family members who have been booted out of the house by cooks who need their sanity protected.  It makes for an interesting day.

Speaking of which, it's time for me to get ready.

The turkey is cooking away in its bottle of champagne---we also have a crack surgical team here---so it's time to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful to have stumbled into this warm and welcoming community.

Today we'll be on our way to my mom's with the champagne turkey and we'll get to see the new baby in the family. Since my brother and I have never had children, my common-law step-brotherhas stepped up to the plate and there's finally a grandchild to spoil. The pressure is off for me!

For Closer fans, there's a Thanksgiving Day marathon going on most of the day. (I think they're on the 3rd episode now...) I did all the promos, next ons, etc.

Enjoy your turkey!

Interesting thoughts from Ellen Burstyn (from imdb.com news).

Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn has slammed the state of contemporary drama, calling for actors to seek training before taking on stage and screen roles. The Requiem For A Dream actress is disgusted by falling standards in Hollywood and on Broadway, and blames the influence of television on their demise. She says, "I am appalled. I saw a couple of things (on Broadway) that were billed as good, but they were shockingly bad. I can't recommend anything on Broadway. I think (acting) needs some help. TV has lowered the bar. With quicker schedules everything is rushed, so the quality gets lowered." Burstyn famously won an Emmy nomination earlier this year for a 14 second cameo in television drama Mrs. Harris.

Just using DH Richard's computer to check in for a quick HI before our guests start arriving.  My computer had to be taken offline because my internet cable presents a traffic hazard when we have a crowd.  Our turkey is about an hour from being done and the house is smelling good.

Oh, I forgot the TOD - the Thanksgiving I mentioned yesterday - 1977 in NYC - is one of my most memorable.  When Becky and I went to the Macy's parade we stood next to a family from New Jersey and the mom wanted to adopt us for the holiday.  From Wednesday-Saturday, here are the shows we saw:

I Love My Wife
Side by Side by Sondheim
A Chorus Line
For Colored Girls...
The Wiz

Thanksgiving weekend 1980 is also memorable, because that's when Richard and I went to my parents' in Michigan as bride-and-groom-to-be (January 1981).  In addition to Thanksgiving dinner with my family, there were a couple of pre-nuptual parties for us and it was a lot of fun.  The day my matron of honor had a personal shower for me (girls only), Richard and my dad held down the fort in my mom's bookstore.

DH DerBrucer, in Detroit (where I grew up), Thanksgiving also meant the arrival of Santa, courtesy of J. L. Hudson department store.  I was appalled this year when Santa arrived at our local mall on November 11 - that's too early and it's Veterans' Day.

As for the Topic of the Day:  Thanksgiving isn't really a memorable day for me.  Because my family (parents, sister, sister's boyfriend, niece) live so close together, we see each other all the time.  When other family members have visited (my dad's sisters from California or my mom's family from Germany), it's usually been during the summers when the weather is nice.  Another reason is that I don't really like turkey. :P But it's a couple of days off from work (and this year rehearsal), so that's good. ;)

Well, I'm off to my sister's house.  My niece's paternal grandmother lives right next door to them and her aunt (father's sister) and her husband live right across the street, so they're all very close, as well.  My niece's father (my ex-brother-in-law) lives only 10 or so miles away, so he's close, also.

Have a great day, everyone!!

Last night's CSI: NY involved the death of a man by pigeons. Further investigation revealed that the pigeons were dead, too and this led to another murder.

Nice to see John Wesley Shipp as one of the principal guest stars. even though he's aged significently from his glory years as a soap star (two Emmys), THE FLASH, and even his run as Dawson's father on DAWSON'S CREEK.

You know, I have not bough any of these new boxed sets of the Bond movies. Allegedly, the transfers are revelatory, but I'm not willing to buy a whole bunch of movies I've already bough many previous times.

When MGM/Fox decides to distribute them separately, I'll pick up some of the Connerys, but I suspect I won't rebuy the entire series until I can afford a real high definition DVD player and thenbuy them in high definition.

#40021 for me. And now I don't have to curse the darkness!

The champagne turkey was the best we've ever done---a 16 pounder. I will make turkey carcass soup tomorrow if I can find my best friend's recipe for it.

I got to meet Erik, the new grandbaby. He's absolutely adorable and almost walking. His parents drove up from Florida, my brother drove in from NC and we had 11 at my mom's and then 10 at Greg's parents.

Now I need to settle down and watch the actual comic relief show.

DR TPunk, glad you liked the promos. I had this on while I was cooking, and no matter how many times I've seen the show, there are always good lines that make me laugh. Did you have a favorite episode?

Sad to say, CSI hit an all-time low for the series in my opinion.

First, when you have a guest star as famous as Roger Daltry and build an hour around his masquerading as different characters based on famous serial killers from slasher movies, you better get quality make-up that can really hide his face WITHOUT IT LOOKING LIKE MAKE-UP. I wasn't fooled for one second with ANY of the disguises he wore. Maybe on standard definition TV, the make-up wasn't obvious, but HD gave the game away VERY early.

And Roger's performance was terrible. He tried using a gravelly voice in an attempt to hide his British accent. Then, the gravelly voice fell away, and one started noticing words here and there that had British accents to them. By the last scene, he wasn't even attempting to disguise his voice any more. Really bad.

At least it was nice to see Barbara Bain in a small guest role, but she deserved much better than this.

Watched a low budget 1950s movie called PORTLAND EXPOSE...which was filmed on location in Portland, Oregon.

It was lots of fun as I recognized so many of the buildings, streets and areas...the shows the Portland Rose Garden where we took DR Tomovoz and DP Colin as well as Multnomah Falls where DR JMK took the Aussies also. The lovely Portland Towers apartments were shown and Union Station...in fact at Union Station the lead actor went through the very same double doors that I went through when I was looking for DR Jane as we were picking up the Aussies at the train station.

I hope all one and all have had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

My Mom made the turkey, the stuffing , the mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie, I made the candied sweet potatoes , mashed turnips, peas with mushrooms and pearl onions, candied carrots and an apple pie and we (the Vixter, Vixdad & I) transported my portion of the feast to Mom and Dad's where we were joined by my single brother and a lovely dinner was had by all... after we cleaned up from the dinner my married brother, his wife and three daughters (the eldest of whom DR Jose treated to an exciting backstage experience at Lestat) arrived for dessert.  they have come back from Ohio for the holiday and are staying at SIL's mom's house and had dinner with that side of the family.. the Vixter was overjoyed to see her cousins and a lovely reunion was had by all

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good turkey carcass soup recipe? I've found some on the internet, but if anyone has any favorites...

I bet Skip the Chef of Magnificient Feasts will have one for you ... if not I am sure SWW will have a good idea or three! ;)

Me... I don't do Turkey soup.. only Split Pea

I watched a couple CLOSERS with TPunk, and my fave was this one that involved three rotten rich siblings who were suspected of killing their butler, who was himself a suspect in another murder. Stephen Tobolowsky played their lawyer. They should have a show just about this family.

On TCM today, between Doris Day films they showed a short about Hollywood, from maybe 1964 or so. I think it was made as a promo for MarineWorld, but it began with this blonde woman wandering around and seeing the sites in Hollywood, while a narrator talked. The Chinese Theater, Gary Cooper's house, etc. There were a lot of city shots, so BK might have enjoyed it. At one point she went to this old western movie studio, somewhere off the highway. Glorriman's or something.  I forgot the name, but she watched them filming a western for a bit.

Then LOVER COME BACK came on, and I got to see the "can" joke referenced here the other day.

I had thought about finishing THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS; then I thought about watching all of SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, but decided on all of MARY POPPINS, a film that I saw for the first time on Thanksgiving Day in 1964. . .had I heard about Betty Comden sooner, perhaps my viewing would have changed.

Oh, and DR MattH - I too, am patiently wandering through the Masterpiece collection. . .

Also watched most of the 1966 BATMAN film. Truly brilliant and hilarious throughout. It's like the TV series, but the location filming, production values, and performance quality kicked up a notch. Adam West may have limited range, but what he did in that role is unmatched for sheer dryness. Lee Meriwether makes a solid Catwoman. No Julie Newmar "ah-ooga!" factor, but quite fetching.

Burgess Meredith has a great throwaway line after they have dehydrated some of his goons and they are sweeping the piles of dust into little test tubes for later re-hydration: "Every one of 'em has a mother!"

Possibly quite rare 1955 Michel Legrand Italian documentary soundtrack here for downloading. Fourth thing down on the page. CONTINENT PERDU (Continente Perduto—Lost Continent).

I'm home from my sister's.  It was only my parents, my sister, her daughter, my sister's boyfriend, me and a friend of my mom's.  Not my sister's ex-mother-in-law and ex-sister-in-law, like I thought.  But good food and a good time was had by all.  We had all the usual...turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, rolls, a broccoli salad that was real good (and I don't care for broccoli).

For dessert, we had some frozen Cheescake Factory cheescake that my sister got from Costco, and she made an almost-vegan cheesecake.  Instead of shortning, she used half Smart Balance spread mixed with butter in the crust...I don't know if that's what the recipe called for or if my sister just did that.  Otherwise, there was tofu in the pumpkin instead of milk and eggs and it actually was quite good.  It had a slightly different texture than "normal" pumpkin pie, but not in a bad way, at all.  I wouldn't have thought that it was almost-vegan.

I'm at home now and will copy the six episodes of "Lost" for my supervisor and a friend of my niece's.  While that's happening in my bedroom, I'm going to watch tonight's "Ugly Betty" and "Grey's Anatomy."  I also have three or four weeks of the Monday night CBS shows, "How I Met Your Mother," "The Class," "Two and a Half Men" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine."  Since I have absolutely NO plans this entire weekend (until Sunday, when our final week of rehearsals start), I'm going to watch as many recorded TV shows as I can. ;)

DR Ginny.. they live in Powell do you know of the place? SIL said it's next to Dublin...

Single brother?  Vixmom, you have a single brother?  Hmm. is there anything else you would like to tell us about him?
