When I was at LACC in the sixties, I wore a carnaby-style cap. I have a photo of it somewhere. I also regularly wear baseball caps, but in the seventies I was fond of wearing those white floppy tennis hats. For a time in the seventies I also wore a fedora.

I'm glad it's not incredibly far, but I keep worrying that it will be on one of my LA trips that my little old car will call it quits.
I also don't have any sort of music playing device in the car & making that trip is really dull w/out it. Oh well.

There are programs for cell phones that you can pay as you go. You put on x number of dollars and when it is used up and you don;t pay again I presume the phone becomes deactivated,
Also on Law and Oder and I am sure other crimes shows there is always a mention of a "throwaway phone" when they try to trace a phone call. Maybe that;s what you need. I don't know anything about those. Maybe someone else does.

DRs singingnymph and Michael S, thanks for the help. I have to do a bit of phone exploration today and tomorrow. There is no Target near me and I don't have time to run up to the Bronx, so I'll rersearch what I can between Toyland, The Brain, laundry, barber, and whatever fresh hell shows up.
I still wear a hat. I worry about skin cancer on the top of my bald head.

Tuesday morning greetings! Back at work today, reluctantly. The holiday season is when I really miss the days when I worked part time.
TOD - Not a hat person, which is why I buy coats with hoods. I have managed to wear a mortarboard and a wedding veil for the occasions that required them, but would not otherwise wear a hat.
My DH and DS, on the other hand, are quite fond of hats. When Rob was little, Santa always left him a hat, perched on the North Pole of the world globe that sits on our hearth.

I used to wear baseball caps all the time. There were people who thought I was bald, because they'd never seen me without a cap.
The only cap I now own is one with this really super "G" stitched in white on a black background. It's from the store. But I only wear it when I'm cart wrangling.

Another beautiful day, probably our last for awhile. There are clouds in the sky, but it's still mostly blue and gorgeous. ANother day with highs in the 70s.

Those "throwaway phones" can be purchased at most drug stores. The first cellphone I had was a phone in which I bought minutes I wanted, but as I began to make friends here and on other forums and needed to call long distance a lot, I found a real cell phone with unlimited night and weekend minutes suited my needs better.

I have a $20 cell phone with pay-as-you-go service from Virgin Mobile ($20 every three months to keep it activated), which works fine for me. I'm not a cell-phone person--I hate listening to phones ringing--and this works fine for me. It's a real help when traveling. Amazon lets you compare service packages--you just need to make sure that you can get service in the right geographic areas. You can buy on Amazon or not. In addition to Target, Best Buy has a good selection. I recommend something (relatively) simple and easy to use. All phones now have far more features than I need.

I've never liked hats much. If you have short hair (or no hair), they're fine, but as my hair is fairly long, I find hats to weird things to my hair when I wear them. Of course, if I'm having a bad hair day, hats can cover a lot of problems.
My favorite kind of hat of the ones I have is a British touring cap. I love the way they look on the right man.

And the box office snafu is typical. There are some local theatres I do NOT attend no matter what show they are doing, because I will NOT deal with the Box Office personnel. I wish theatres would realize that those are the people that STAND for their organization. I know that dealing with some people is difficult (I work in the box office during the summer) - but PLEASE!!!

Unbelievable that I don't watch anything at 8, but once we get to 9, the dam bursts. At 10, I have FOUR shows I want to see. Lots of recorders juggling shows then.
Of course, this may be my last time recording 3 LBS. The show hasn't hooked me yet, and the ratings have been so mediocre that I'm not sure how long CBS will stay with the show. Like last year's LOVE MONKEY, it just hasn't captured the public's attention.

As for "Superman", ALAS THE DAY. I'm a week away from obtaining my 14-disc ulta-Superman collection and I've already learned there are problems with two of the discs.
Warner Brothers is upfront about the problem and will replace the problem discs once I call them. I'm certain I'll need the set in hand before calling...probably some code or other I'll have to read off.

I just read Glenn Erickson's review of PANDORA'S BOX. I've never seen this movie, but he certainly does make it sound intriguing. The Criterion disc is prohibitively expensive as a blind buy, if anyone has gotten it, please post your reactions here. Thanks.

I was very distraught to learn that the writers had introduced this wonderful waitress character...and then decided to give her an aneurysm that would have killed her as surely as Sylar's bullet did.
I totally "get" the reference to brains being missing from possible future Sylar victims since we've learned he's managed to find a way to acquire powers by accessing the DNA of his victims....but why kill Charlie? He didn't take any part of her brain! And her gift was phenomenal.
Niki/Jessica's story was a revelation! Didn't know that they had been twins. This is shades of "The Other"!!!
It's still difficult to tell which way the ball will bounce -- if, indeed, it will bounce at all -- with the cheerleader's dad. And his getting that woman to pose as a neighbor/friend of the Indian professor....well...that smacks of something sinister if I've ever seen anything sinister. She's the one who stopped Sylar last week after the attack on the cheerleaders.
My BIG QUESTION -- that black guy we see with her -- is he seen by anyone else? I never got the feeling that anyone else acknowledged his presence...only her. So....
LOVE this show! Hiro and Peter and the Cheerleader remain my favorite characters. Can't wait to see where the writers take us....

I like to wear a baseball cap when I am directing and outdoors during the summer....since like DR ELMORE, I am hair-challenged.
I bought a couple of flat golf caps last week and I like those now and then. I always wanted a Foreign Legion hat because they look so neat, but I don't think I could wear it with any style.

Once I left behind my coonskin cap back in grade school I never wore a hat again until recently. Now I wear a baseball cap once in awhile when my hair gets long and unseemly.
I would love for the Fedora to make a comeback...some guys look quite handsome in them (think Kaysar on Big Brother!).

I have two new Christmas CDs to listen to...a double album CD of The New Christy Minstrels MERRY CHRISTMAS and CHRISTMAS WITH THE CHRISTIES and I picked up a Japanese import WHITE CHRISTMAS KAYAMA YUZO.
Kayama Yuzo (better known as Yuzo Kayama to us Americans) was a big star in Japan in the 1960s and co-starred with Toshiro Mifune in SANJURO and in RED BEARD...evidently he was quite a singer, as I will soon find out.

I had a lovely chiropractic session yesterday afternoon. Minor tweaks put me to rights.
Afterward, I took some boxes to a packaging store to have them sent back to SC prior to my return on Dec. 14. And, since I was in the neighborhood, I shopped at a favorite market with a scrumptious deli and bought buttermilk fried chicken and soup for my dinner.
At home, I did nothing but relax. I watched a few episodes of "CSI" on Spike TV before "Heroes" aired. After "Heroes" it was bedtime, and I slept like a log.

I can vouch for them. I might point out that the $20/quarter is not a fee, but rather a credit you can use for minutes, and you can carry over balances from one quarter to the next. (We have a second Virgin phone so Woody and I can each have one when on the road; since it is rarely used, it has an accumulation of about $150.00 in phone credits.) Virgin also has a nice website where you can manage your account.

Thanks, DR MattH! I just went to Verizon around the corner on Broadway and bought myself a phone and a "pay-as-you-play" plan. I purchased 350 minutes, which should be enough to get through phone calls to the apartment and folk trying to track me down. I'll keep it for trips to Ohio as well and other jaunts.

DENVER — A subdivision has withdrawn its threat of $25 daily fines against a homeowner who put a Christmas wreath shaped like a peace sign on the front of her home.
Homeowner Lisa Jensen told The Associated Press on Monday that the board of directors of the Loma Linda Homeowners Association had apologized, called the incident a misunderstanding and had withdrawn its request for the wreath's removal.
Jensen was ordered to take the wreath down when some residents in her 200-home subdivision saw it as a protest of the Iraq war. Bob Kearns, president of the board, also said some saw it as a symbol of Satan.
The homeowners' association demanded Jensen remove the wreath from her house, saying it doesn't allow flags or signs that are considered divisive.
None of the three members of the board in the scenic town 270 miles southwest of Denver was available for comment late Monday. Kearns and colleague Jeff Heitz both had their phone numbers changed to unlisted numbers Monday. Tammy Spezze, the third board member, did not return a call seeking comment.
If ever there was an easy way to harass you neighbors, it is to post their phone number on a friendly blog!

What a surprise at the end of HEROES last night! Another new episode next week! I certainly didn't expect that!
I was trying to figure out what you were referring to re: the ending.
There were some parts of last night's show that i enjoyed.
I liked finding out about nathan's wife's accident (and the flying). I thought it was interesting to see matt interact with eden (and find out why matt never passed his test).
I liked seeing hiro go back in time. But that was so sad.
I suppose the part about niki's father was enlightening. And the part about papa suresh finding sylar. And to see claire and jackie 6 months ago. Funny that the whole tagline is "save the cheerleader, save the world" and claire wasn't even a cheerleader then!

I'm also very sad that charlie will not be a regular. The only thing i can think of is that the writers did not realize that she would be as popular as she is. I think every person i've seen post about the show just loves her, myself included.

While reading posts at the televisionwithoutpity forum, i noticed some people were talking about the previews for next week. I didn't get to see that preview, but i'm gathering something major is supposed to happen next week.

Thick willow groves have erased nearly all traces of the washed-out road that once pointed extreme sportsmen to the ruins of a onetime silver boom town. Bighorn sheep appear with greater frequency, conservationists note, and the endangered Inyo California towhee has returned.
But the battle for Surprise Canyon, home of the longest year-round stream in the Panamint Range, has revved up a notch: More than 100 four-wheel-drive aficionados determined to see their prized run reopened have filed a lawsuit in federal court that is being closely watched throughout the West.

GAY rock star Sir Elton John has delivered an "up yours" message to Prime Minister John Howard for opposing same-sex marriages.
Sir Elton, in Sydney last night for the first of three concerts, said he was unimpressed with the lack of legislation to protect gay couples in Australia.
The 59-year-old and his partner David Furnish last December became one of the first gay couples in England to tie the knot in a civil partnership ceremony.
"It was just a commitment I wanted to make because I love him, and vice-versa, and it was just a great day," Sir Elton told the Seven Network.
Asked what he would like to say to Mr Howard about his views on gay marriage, Sir Elton replied: "Up yours."
The Howard Government earlier this year scuttled plans to allow gay marriages in the ACT.

Oh, Timothy Olyphant is one of my favorites. Now that DEADWOOD has ended (apart from the two made-for-HBO movies still to come), I am hoping he'll get a network series soon. I'd love to see him in something lightly dramatic, like BONES.

I started the afternoon with the rest of the episodes on the SUPERMAN Season 5 second disc.
Among those episodes is a really good one: "The Prince Albert Coat" and also one of the worst (if not THE worst) ever, "Mr. Zero."

Next came last night's OLD CHRISTINE. There was some funny stuff with Christine's ex-husband not being able to perform with his new girl friend becasue he took her to the place where he and "old" Christine had their honeymoon. But, there was too much squabbling between Christine and Barb that just wasn't funny.

Next came last night's CSI: MIAMI, an okay story of a murdered Marine back from Iraq killed under mysterious circumstances. There were some questionable conclusions about drugs in his system that weren't tied up as neatly as usual, and two brothers who didn't look a thing like one another (which was not the intention). One of the sloppier CSI;MIAMIs I've seen.

Then I put in THE FALLEN IDOL, and watched the first hour of it. The direction by Carol Reed is so striking that it makes other films made around that time pretty pedestrian.
The Criterion disc looks wonderful, but it's not flawless. There is a slim scratch that runs through the near-center of the frame for about five minutes making for somewhat irksome viewing. But most of the dirt and other flaws have been cleaned up marvelously, and it is the best version of it I've ever seen.
Makes me want to watch THE THIRD MAN after I finish this.

Very bad news at work today. One of our floor managers, Reber, is in the hospital and goes into surgery tomorrow, to have a "mass" removed from his colon.
Reber's the sort of fellow who always spreads good cheer, disguised with a salty exterior. Several customers were asking about how he's doing, but I simply didn't have any information to give them. He's going to be out for at least a month, more if that mass isn't benign.
And right now, this is the only thing I can think of to do.

Hmmm, I'm a bit concerned about tomorrows forecast. Des Moines seems to be smack dab in the middle of the icy buildup forecast. I hate driving on I-80 as it is, but to drive with speeding semi trucks and freezing rain....I just don't know about it. Guess I'll just watch the weather.

Yes, I just watched "The Dreamer" episode the other day. The "Jimmy the Kid" episode was in the previous boxed set (which, of course, I watched some months ago). I remember both ladies very well.

I finished THE FALLEN IDOL. The child's following the police around at the end trying to tell them something that appears will implicate rather than help his beloved servant gets me every time; puts me on the edge of my seat. Brilliant writing and direction.

Next, I put in the next disc in the CSI: MIAMI 4th season set and watched a couple of episodes. The first was a bizarre story of Miami teenagers aping the scenario of a video game in committing crimes. Good drama with some surprising twists.

The other CSI: MIAMI episode featured the CSIs in a race with a bounty hunter to find the killer of a suspected drug dealer. An IAB investigation into Delko's alleged drug use also clutters up the investigations until all is straightened out. Another good episode.

I spent the last thirty minutes watching HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE on HBO-HD. Only watched the sequence dealing with Potter's selection up to his facing his dragon. Looked nice but not significently sharper than seeing the standard DVD I have upconverted to my set's resolution.

LAW & ORDER: CI had a very unusual case involving a cyber video blog that appears to be the scene of a kidnapping. A back and forth real-or-fake investigation resulted in one of the best CIs of the season.

The conclusion of the BOSTON LEGAL two parter was half good, half bad. I didn't find the Shirley storyline very satisfying at all, but I did enjoy the lesbian murder trial, especially Jerry Espenson's techniques in the courtroom. Quite wonderful during those sequences, and the result of the trial surprised me.

My Little French boy arrived. The new house is less than a mile from the subway stop so it was so convenient to pick him up there. The house was sparkling---he was very pleased to move in. I had my car washed and vaccumed on the way to work so he would have my new car to drive, and I will drive my 16 year old 5 speed Corolla, which still runs great. I miss having a stickshift with the new car. Here they cost more than an automatic because traffic is so bad here that no one wants to shift gears so dealers never have stickshifts on the lot----you have to order them. That's how I ended up with an automatic car for the first time in my life, and probably the last. They are so boring to drive!
When I got home, I had a call from my mom that my cousin's husband had died. No one knows the cause right now; she just came home and found him. He was only @ 58. Thye have been married for 40 years. I am in shock.
