Well, you've read the notes, the notes were brainy, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently on Planet X supping on brains.

And the word of the day is: EUPHORIOUS!

First post huzzah!

Happy Birthday to MR BK who makes all this possible.

I made mistake. yes, I did.
I notified both of the companies that have pending charges, and now the charges will not move from pending to posted on my account so they can be disputed and removed....

But they instead were wishing the cast and crew of The Brain From Planet X a EUPHORIOUS opening night
And broken legs one and all.

Happy Birthday, esteemed BK!
Broken leg to you, too! And a flashy chromed wheelchair, as well, for your opening night bows!

TOD -
We have oodles (that's several oods) of DVDs that have arrived, which der B and I are sorting through and enjoying.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (two disc set) is in the stack.
Lots of Doctor Who stories, ranging from The Tomb of the Cybermen with Patrick Troughton, Spearhead From Space and Inferno with Jon Pertwee, and The Hand of Fear and The Robots of Death with Tom Baker, then jumping to the later stories like The Mark of the Rani and The Two Doctors with Colin Baker (this also featuring Troughton) and The Curse of Fenric with Sylvester McCoy. Lots of nifty bonus stuff, as well, some of it quite silly and other stuff very interesting.
Der Brucer, meanwhile, has a Brit comedy called To Die For sitting in his stack, barechested leading man on the cover.
And last night we watched The Internationale, a film by Peter Miller, edited by Amy Carey Linton. A very interesting film about a song, it's history, and the people who have sung it.
Hopefully, der Brucer will post his thoughts about the film later.

In said article, our esteemed BK is quoted as saying:
"The Brain From Planet X is a sci-fi musical, one that has sport with all my favorite bad sci-fi films of the 50s, which include 'Invaders From Mars,' 'The Brain From Planet Arous,' 'Plan Nine From Outer Space,' and 'The Creeping Terror' (which features the first monster entirely made out of carpet), and so many other fine works of cinema. I grew up loving those movies, and I love them still, and now through the magic of musical comedy, I’m getting to relive them all. We have an actual singing Brain, we have two aliens named Zubrick and Yoni (Yoni being the man-hungry female, and Zubrick being the man-hungry male), we have an All-American Family, we have a General, we have an elderly Professor, we have 17 musical numbers and, best of all, the show is set in the San Fernando Valley in 1958."
It should be noted that there are parts of the San Fernando Valley that are still set in 1958! What happens in the San Fernando Valley stays in the San Fernando Valley... and stays, and stays, and stays...
;)
-
The VERY HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY to our beloved BK!
May your 59th year be the BEST EVER!!
-
Happy Birthday BK.
-
May OPENING NIGHT be as smooth as silk (or, you prefer cotton?) and perfection itself.
-
And you're going to RELAX today? I'm nervous and I won't even be there (unfortunately)!

Friday morning greetings! I popped in earlier with wishes for BK, but couldn't stick around for long. Here I am at work in the downtown
homeless shelter public library for a full day of information waitressing. After today, though, I have the next five days off ;D
Media check: CD(car) - audiobook - Bill Bryson's The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid: A Memoir, read by the author. Recommended to baby boomers. Other CDs - Tony Bennett's Duets: An American Classic and BK's holiday albums A Broadway Christmas and A Hollywood Christmas

Bringing Toby and Dylan over to Dear Friend Maureen's apartment so that she can watch them over the weekend.
It's cold out there, though.

Trying to understand the rules about whta you can and can't carry on airplanes in terms of toiletries.

Dang, it's already time to head to work.
I've a craving for Chinese food.
Maybe if I threaten to cook Chinese food (something I don't do well), der Brucer will come up with an alternative solution.
Hope hope hope hope hope.

Still no confirmation about the breakfast tomorrow? Skip and I won't have internet access (to the best of our knowledge) after about 1 p.m. NY time today, so if anyone has anything to communicate with us, please leave a message at 212-332-0641.
If it's not on, that's fine, since we'll presumably see everyone at the show on Saturday night, but someone PLEEEEEASE let us know either way on Friday if they know anything. Thanks :)
-
Or did I miss a post about the breakfast somewhere???
-
Good morning!
Bright sunny day out but VERY cold. It got down to 22 last night, and is going to be below 20 tonight. We didn't have any nights this cold last winter, and it isn't even winter yet!!
-
Happiest of birthday wishes to founder of this forum, the one-the only, BK.
-
And multiple leg fractures to all the cast and staff of THE BRAIN. Hope the run is a joyous one for everyone concerned!

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BRUCE!
BREAK A LEG, MERDE, & ALL SIMILAR SALUTATIONS FOR A GREAT AND SUCCESSFUL OPENING! WISH I WAS THERE TO SEE IT!

Even with a guest coming into town, my usual Friday errands are unchanged. I need to head down now to clean up to visit the ATM and grocery store.

You can take anything you like in your "checked" luggage -- any size, any quantity of toiletries that are liquid.
For carry-on, however, there are restrictions. No one liquid toiletry product may exceed 3 oz., and ALL liquid toiletries in your carry-on must FIT comfortably in one (and only one) 1-quart-sized zip-loc baggie.
There are exceptions, of course, for various categories of folks, like the disabled, breast-feeding mothers, etc.
As these are Traffic Safety Administration guidelines, you can find them online under TSA (just Google 'em).
-
Good morning to all.
-
It's a particular pleasure to be posting on this, my very last work day of the year Two-Thousand Six.
Let the holidays/celebrations commence!

Happy happy happy (good things come in threes) birthday to little Brucie Kimmel. Brucie is 59 today! And has a very swell show opeing tonight! That's probably the best present any boy could wish for!
Anyhow, I hung out with Elmore yesterday, offering immoral support as he finished the bow music. I must say, his music notation is just about the loveliest I've ever seen - mine's pretty good, functional - but elmore's hand is just a treat for the eye! I'm thinking you don't even have to be a literate musician to appreciate the aesthetic beauty of what really amounts to DRAWING. And I know the players love being so supported by graceful and supremely legible notation!
I sat with him during the first act last night - WOW! It's so good! So funny! So totally professional in every way!! I am bringing friends to see it tonight - I may even dress!!
Tomorrow is my brother's birthday, and my sisters and I are taking him out to lunch today. Got some stuff to attend to before I leave here at 11 - have a fine day, you all! And those who have come to LA for the festivities: See ya laters, gators!
-
May all of tonight's audience reaction to "The Brain From Planet X" be EUPHORIOUS!
-
Congrats on your last WORK DAY of 2006, DR RLP.
Wish I had had mine!
My computer likes to shut itself off....and no one can look at it until Monday...so it is touch and go here.
And of course still dealing with MasterCard and NO computer makes it more difficult.
If I am not here it is because the computer says NO.

Wonder what DR MBARNUM is up to today....
-
Good morning, all! Yes, Dear Friend BK, I did get a ride to my hosts' home by Mr Richard Berent, the musical director! He and I were both happy over how smothly all the band cues ran last night, and today around 6:30, we'll make cutrs in the Cusrtain Calls music to help them land with the actors' entrances.
Yes, THE BRAIN was quite fun last night and the first time I felt comfortable with my work since the sitzprobe on Monday. I've had a good time with the musicians on the show, and I will digress here for a second to talk about the breed: they can make or break you, especially the rhythm section, since most of the drums part is a bunch of illegible squiggles that you hope the player will turn into magic and you hope that on a rock number the bass player and guitar - if you're budget can afford one - will take your elementary scrawls and (sometimes) chord symbols and spinthem to gold.
I've been lucky on BK's albums and other projects to work with Ron Tierno, Chris Coluzzi, Ray Marchica, Danny Gross, Mark Minkler, Kevin Kuhn, and so many other wonderful players; I feel we're lucky to have Dan and Shannon giving the same talent to this show, If my work sounds good, I owe a lot to them, and to Matt on synth, Curt on the reeds, and the fantastic playing of MD Richard on keyboard 1. I am mighty proud of my work on THE BRAIN, but I can't say enough about how wonderful everyone in the cast and crew, as well as the LACC staff, has been.
The ever-beautiful PennyO came by to help me yesterday, as I was finishing up the parts for the Curtain Call, so we chatted as I finished them up, and then she stayed for Act One and the Entr'Acte. She's coming tonight, along with a lot of friends I care for, and I lok forwards to the festivities. I look forward to getting back to my own space on Sunday, but I will miss the show and everyone enormously![move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]

I'm up, I'm up. Woke up early but just stayed in bed, fell back asleep, and had a lovely morning being lazy. Shortly I shall have a birthday jog.
Thanks to all for the lovelier than lovely birthday wishes. I couldn't ask for a more beautiful LA day.
It was really fun to hear elmore's orchestrations last night, with much better sound and blend. There were just a couple of times when we didn't hear things, and we both gave notes about them.
-
Can't wait to see the show tomorrow night! How I wish we could have been there tonight, but schedules just didn't allow it.
I'll probably be E&T from the HHW board until Monday morning, but not E&T from mingling with HHW folk in L.A.
See the folks in L.A. tomorrow!
-
Still not sure whether I'll see the L.A. folks in the morning or evening, but definitely tomorrow. :)
Again, that number is 212-332-0641, that's 212-332-0641. :)

I haven't heard a word from Kerry or MusicGuy in ages, not even when I asked them to confirm their reservations. So, I don't know about breakfast, although we could all just say we'll meet at Du-Par's at eleven (it may be very crowded, however). In fact, let's just say that and be done with it. Du-Par's at eleven. Someone let Shayne know.

Great, Du-Par's at 11.
If anything changes, the phone number is...
Just kidding! Signing off for now.

One of those calls might just perk me right up. I cannot receive or send calls from my host's house, but the reception is fine at LACC. I'm still trying to decipher the instruction book. Perhaps that will be my task this afternoon.
I have to wander over to LACC soon, and do some shopping on the way.

All i have done so far this morning is is walk Hollywood Blvd in search of a Starbucks...and sneeze a lot! I must allergic to something...but it is so beautiful and sunny and warm out that I don't care about the sneezing!
Now I must hop in my car and pay a visit to the former homestead of Ms. Allison Hayes. Actress.
Then over the hills and through the woods to Studio City for lunch with Mr. Peter Lupus.
Then back to Los Angeles for dinner with Laurie and Diana and Laurie's neice...then off to THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X!!! Woohoo!

MOVIEFONE (http://news.aol.com/entertainment/movies/articles/_a/oscars-with-carnage-and-mayhem-galore/20061207071009990001?cid=918)
The big awards movies got off to a murderous start this season with “The Departed,” a film in which a number of characters played by big-name actors were whacked at close range as bodily fluids splattered everywhere. The body and organ count continues to mount as the season closes. Clint Eastwood’s war film “Flags of Our Fathers” featured horrific scenes of beach warfare with more soldiers blasted into more pieces than we’ve seen since “Saving Private Ryan,” including a head unaccompanied by a body. Its sibling film, “Letters From Iwo Jima” — Mr. Eastwood used the same battle to shoot a film in Japanese as well — has an extended riff on the consequences of sequential suicides by grenade.
It is not just war and crime movies that take a machete to fainter sensibilities. A message movie like “Blood Diamond” does not just refer to child amputees — it shows the process. And “The Last King of Scotland” features human flesh regarded as a cut of beef. Then the stream of bloody movie scenes becomes a river in “Apocalypto,” which has several recently removed hearts held aloft, a few more of the aforementioned bouncing, unattached noggins and enough impalement to bring to mind human shish kebab.
All well and good, but...........................
do they have a dancing Brain!

I began my afternoon with the remained two BONES episodes on disc 2.
One had to do with the death of a young boy masquerading as a superhero. As many of these "superhero" stories (LAW & ORDER: CI had a similar story), it was sad and ended badly.
-
The other BONES episode involved a governmental probe into the lab at the Jeffersonian. It had a very amusing conclusion.
-
I next finished up the CSI boxed set for Season 4. One of the episodes involved a Nicole Ritchie/Jessica SImpson type celebrity duo in which one of them was killed and the other the chief suspect in their murder. OK mystery but what was more dramatic was the continuing investigation of the mole in the lab reporting to the feds. M.E. Alexx Woods got her feelings trampled as the spotlight focused on her.
-
Media report, amended: DVD - Six Feet Under, complete 5th season.
-
The final episode of the season revealed the identity of the mole, let the head of the vicious Mala Noche gang go free (which set up this season's premiere episode set in Brazil), and also revealed a more insidious enemy to the lab than the mole, a revelation and conclusion which gave the season ender a triumphant feeling to it.
-
I finished the afternoon viewing with a MURDER SHE WROTE episode from season 4 involving a house that supposedly was the home of Benedict Arnold's mistress. Nice, compact little mystery.
-

Hi all and a very BIG Birthday wish to our very dear BK!
My boss called me last night and asked me to go with her to learn how to sit on an interview panel. I couldn't use my computer in her car but since I'm riding the bus home, here I am!

Actually, the one I have in mind is only 31 kb....about the size of a regular photo we post with regularity.
It's the .wav from the "old" forum...the "bitchslap" .wav wtih Carol Kane from "Scrooged" saying, "Sometimes you have to SLAP (sound of a slap) them to get their attention!"
Loads of fun.
-
I wish today was my last work day for the year. I've missed a lot of time in the past few weeks but it wasn't for fun. I hope that by next year at this time I will have built up some time so I can come and play with the gang!

In the "Hey Baby, It's COLD outside!" department, we are going down to 40 tonight! Aggh!

Does anyone here remember a song from the early '70's (I think) that went:
"Gotta find a woman, gotta find a woman, gotta find a woman"? Something about a caveman if memory serves but I don't know who did it or what it was called. It came up at work but no one could place it.
-
I think it will be about 40 degree here too - but C.
We are possible in the midst of the worse bush fire season in recorded history in this state. Bushfires are raging out of control and will burn for months!
Pray for the wildlife.
Visibility is poor here - smoke! the fires are 100s of miles away from us. Yesterday I was in the West of the State (The fires are in the heavily timbered East) but there was so much smoke in the air. Visibility today is down to about 500 yards in some areas that I drive through yesterday. Smoke smoke smoke.
There are fires in our neighbouring states also.

Maybe it was from "Troglodyte" (aka Cave Man)- The Jimmy Castor Bunch (1972)

But I will be at the theater for the evening's performance. I am not to far from LACC. I am staying in West Hollywood..
-
Well I am going to dinner and then have to pack. So I probably won't be back on here to Sunday evening. Everyone have a great weekend.

I'd give more details about our dealings with the airline, but I'm reluctant to give them on a public chat board lest I subject myself to charges of libel or slander. We did, however, get a lesson as to what we SHOULD have done as soon as we saw the long line, and that was be more vocal earlier, because the lady at the counter cared not a whit after the fact. There was no help on the line at all, and the lady behind the counter seemed as annoyed as anyone that she was stuck with only two people (her and one otehr person) helping a long long line.

Eat LOTS of CAKE!!!

Our sympathies to FJL and Skip.
Another reason for our taking a train across North America from E to W rather than fly. (We did consider train from W to E and then a flight!)
There are far less delays etc when you are "processed" to leave the USA rather than traveling to or through! So many people miss flight connections. It is a "people" and organisation problem. We are all aware of the need for security. A three hour wait can now be seen as usual.
How very sad for Fred and Skip.

HOORAY. Hello Jose. Has your email address changed? Some people - US - need a mailing address for you too!
-
That's such a terrible shame, FJL. This security thing is just getting out of control. Now they are talking about letting non-ticketed people go to the gates. That will just clog up the security lines even more.
-
I have had the pleasure (ha!) of flying lately, but I haven't had any trouble with long security lines. So far. I will have to do some traveling over the next few years. I hope it gets better.
I have a friend who stood in a security line almost three hours and missed her flight.
-
DR FJL - I'm so sorry you aren't on your way to California. What a bummer.
-
The security thing is completely out of control. It's why I always arrive at the airport at least two hours early, sometimes three - I'm just a nervous traveler in that way. The fact is, the airline should have done whatever was necessary - first off, taking those who had pressing flights first. Barring that, they should have switched FJL and Skip to another flight or airline. But common courtesy is a thing of the past, I'm afraid. I'm not afraid, however, of slander and libel because there isn't any - it's simply the truth and the truth cannot be refuted. THEY are responsible and it is THEIR job to make it right when they screw up like this.
-
And now for something completely different:
HERE (http://www.switchpod.com/users/cpl/Boot_Camp_A.mp3)
is the podcast that we created at the workshop I attended on Wednesday. What's amazing is that it's a bunch of librarians, doing a cold reading of a never-before-seen script. It was recorded, edited, and uploaded in a matter of about 15 minutes. I'm the mayor.
-
And of course the airlines have to overbook every flight so that they they'll always have a full flight and not lose money and that just compounds the problem. :P

True enough.
But something I've noted when flying is that a lot (LOT) of people don't check in at the airport earlier than 30 minutes before the flight. This causes jam-ups and delayed takeoffs.

This day, this week and this work year are almost finished!
Hoo.....&.....Ray!

The day has grayed over, the wind has kicked up and rain has been falling the past hour or so.
It's supposed to be colder tonight and tomorrow.
-
Here....it's supposed to be colder HERE...tonight and tomorrow.
In Oakland CA.
-
All this talk of travel woes has stirred up some anxieties in me re: my flight Wednesday evening.
Sigh.
Calm....calm....get there early, be organized and chill.
-
Just get there real early, RonPulliam.
-
FJL: why didn't you get on a later flight? Would they not give you that option?
-
Doggone, Fred and Skip! I was looking very forward to seeing you guys!! I can only image the frustration you must be feeling as that is always a fear of mine...not only do I start packing days and days before I have to go someplace, but I tend to get to the airport way, way too early because I am always afraid of bad traffic or some hold up at the airport.
-
I presume Musicguy, Kerry, and DearReader Laura will be here tomorrow!?
I hope so as I am very looking forward to meeting you peoples!
-
I must now dress for dinner and the play. I hope it is air conditioned in the theater because I tell you what, even in shorts and short sleave shirt I was sweating like a pig during my jaunt in Studio City today....but I loved the sun!!
-
Shortly I shall be on my way to LACC and opening night of The Brain From Planet X. I shall, of course, have a full report upon my return. All excellent vibes and xylophones appreciated.

Actually, the only option we would have had would have been a flight which would have connected in Chicago and gotten us to L.A. at 1 in the morning L.A. time (of course, 4 in the morning Eastern time) and would have necessitated a jaunt in rush hour to LaGuardia airport from Newark. And we would just wouldn't have made it through the next day that way.
-
Most excellent vibes to the Brain people.
-
It amazes me that they could not find you a flight from NYC. NYC, for heaven's sake! There must be hundreds of flights every day out of there!
-
Incredibly, as Skip is pointing out to someone on the phone, "our" flight was just about the only flight that took off on time.
-
MBarnum, I think Kerry and MusicGuy were flying over today; I will begin my drive when I wake up in the morning. Hopefully early. But not too early.
-
This is why I would rather drive.
-
I saw a little news clip on TV yesterday or the day before saying the Delta Airlines is late 100% of the time! Every single flight that they fly is late to arrive! What good is that?? You'd think that all they have to do is adjust their arrival estimates and call it good!
-
I flew Delta in October -- no problems going. The reason we were late coming back was storms in the Atlanta area -- everything was late. I thought Delta was quite comfortable. But then I usually am herded on Southwest, when I have to fly.
-
I should be packing a bag and washing my windshield.
-
I'm off to Cannibal: The Musical (http://www.olytheater.com/)! Have a good evening, all, especially those who are in and are going to see BK's very own The Brain From Planet X!!
-
DR FJL and DP Skip, so very sorry about your travel woes. I am also one of those people who is at the airport 2 hours early. With all the overbooking now, I also take the day after I travel off so I can get bumped if necessary.
Did they refund your travel or give you a voucher?
-
I just watched Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (my favorite dentist cartoon) and now it's Frosty the Snowman. I still love both of these shows
-
Excellent vibes to all associated with THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X And to George and the cast of CANNIBAL THE MUSICAL.
Hmmm The Brain and the Cannibal.....coincidence?
-
Jose - great to see you....how is life? Hope all is wonderful

I'm like Bruce. I'd rather get to the airport way early and just take a book with me once I'm through security. Going out of London the other day, we had to be out of our flat by eleven and our flight didn't leave till 4:30. So even after the cab ride to Heathrow, we had four and half hours to kill. Fortunately, we were travelling business class, so no lines (fast-track check-in)and we could wait in the VIP lounge, but the nice thing about Heathrow is that once inside security, there's a vertible mall of shops from book stores to Harrods that one could browse before going to the lounge.
Once at Chicago, we had to go through customs (first port of call) and then re-check our luggage and go through security again for any connecting flights, but this also wasn't a hassle as I had left two hours time between flights and we had plenty of time to spare before our Cincinnati connection at 9:00pm. But that somehow didn't stop the flight from inexplicably being late and us not leaving until 10:40. No explanation was ever given as to why the plane was an hour and forty minutes late, however.
-
Well, I went to this workman's comp clinic & was there over 2 hours. So rather than drive down tonight & not get enough sleep at my aunt's house, I'm going to leave butt-crack-of-dawn early & go to the Valley/breakfast first.
-
My company was a little late arriving, but I used the time to wrap Christmas presents and now find I am very far along in that little endeavor. One of my least favorite things to do, so I'm glad I've got a bunch of them already taken care of.
-
Cilla - They did agree to a refund even though there was technically only a legal requirement to give a credit towards future flights (less a penalty), given that it was officially nonrefundable.
-
Fred and Skip, I'm so sorry about the flight problems and that your trip was ruined. Bad things sometimes happen to nice people.
-
Gregg and I went to a small nearby restaurant where I had delciious spaghetti. Even though I made it for myself a few days ago, I was starving tonight and ate way too much.
-

Well that can't compensate for missing the world premiere of THE BRAIN, but at least it's something...
-
We were planning on watching SUPERMAN RETURNS when we got back, but while at dinner, the subject of LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA came up, and Gregg commented that we should have gone to it two summers ago instead of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG. I agreed and said that at least I got to see the show on PBS. Gregg mentioned that he had missed that program and didn't tape it, so when we got back, we watched the DVD I burned of that telecast. He really enjoyed it, and I certainly didn't mind seeing it again.
-
Of course, this means that I have a date with SUPERMAN RETURNS tomorrow night. Looking forward to finally seeing it.
-
Today I paid the deposit on the Orpheum trip to the Tonys. It includes 4 nights in NYC, so I'll have lots of time to see HHW friends.
-
I'm heading off to bed now.
Good night to all!
-
Happy Birthday, Bruce!
happy Birthday, Rick Mason!
Break a leg, Bruce. Knock 'em dead.
I send you a virtual 2 pound box of See's Nuts & Chews.
Wish I could be there with all of you on this exciting night!
All my love!

Hmmm The Brain and the Cannibal.....coincidence?
I don't think so! ;)
-
Tonight's Cannibal went quite well. No lost/dropped/flubbed lines that I noticed. And I got a few pictures!! HOWEVER, I brought my memory card reader to my sister's house, so I can't upload anything, yet. ::) I should be able to get it tomorrow, but I need to go to work, so I don't know how much time I've got before call time.
-
Hi, George! I just got home from BRAIN
Glad your Cannibal went well! Brain was great! Huge crowd, went ape-shit! All the jokes landed, all the songs and dances were well-received - cowabunga, matey!

In the mail today, I received direct from First Run Features "Before Stonewall," "After Stonewall," "Lenny Bruce Without Tears" (this is a Christmas present for my dad) and Edisaurus' "The Internationale."

I too am back from The Brain and the lovely reception after. I think it's a hit!

I'm back, and to prove it, I'm here. Must write the notes.
