Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both short and sweet and sweet and short, and now it is time for you to post until the short and sweet cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GREGARIOUS!
-
I'm nevr up at this hour, but I was anxious for reports about the BRAIN, and thrilled that it went so well. Congratulations to everybody involved
-
Nevr, that is the word I used. (I meant never, of course.)
-
Good Morning Fred.
Up really early
On my way to the airport and then LAX.
-
Damn Fred!
Just caught up with yesterdays post what a bummer!
I am then off to the airport, just in case I have problems here.
-
Michael S - We were flying (or trying to fly) mid-afternoon on Friday. I'm sure you won't have similar problems on an early A.M. flight. Wishing you a great trip!
-
Skip's better at certain details than I am. And he reminded me that we were at the airport 2:10 for a 3:30 flight, and that when we got there, there were at least seven agents tending the line, but by the time we were getting close to the front, the number had at some point dwindled to two.
But next time we know, we must find a person who looks official and be insistent that our flight is coming up. (And maybe tip? - who knew?)
We're not taking the position of never flying this airline again, just going to learn how to play it if we ever run into this situation again, and planning to try on principle (whether or not we succeed) to get compensated for losses, like the deposit on the hotel and such. And maybe avoid flying on a getaway day like a Friday afternoon.
I'm rambling, I'll go get some more sleep. Just was anxious to hear about last night's opening, and so happy about what i read.
-
Of course, there will be no compensating for the experience we missed out on, and hoping there will be lots of details on HHW so that i can live vicariously through them.
-
Glad to hear that Opening Night went well. It is 4:15 a.m. here -- and I am just about to hit the road. Can't wait to see everyone!
-
5 am. Mostly packed. I need to give my ratties some water & 3-S.
Oh, why am I still sitting here?!
-
Have a great time, singingnymph. Please report back with as many details as you can.
-
Saturday morning greetings! Today is the first of my five days off. I crashed last night about 9pm and woke up this morning without an alarm clock, very refreshed.
The glowing Brain reports are such a thrill! Congratulations to everyone and best wishes for a continued successful run.
Today, as as early birthday present from my mother, I'm going with her and many other senior citizens to the matinee performance of the Cincinnati Pops Christmas concert. The guest artists are the von Trapp Children, great grandchildren of the Captain.
-
Good morning all and Congrats on what sounds like a fabulous opening night!
-
French Silk pie and I have always been friends, but I like Apple, Rhubarb and my mother's peach pie a lot too...I've had some great berry pies from time to time....oh bother, now I'm thinking about pie.
-
Good morning Ginny!
-
Glad to hear the show was a smash!
-
Times I have been running close to my flight or there were big lines, there usually was an airline rep going through the line saying, "Is anyone on the upcoming 3:15 flight?" (or whenever), and such people were pulled out of line and moved along the chain a bit.
-
Pie! Coconut Cream with whipped cream on top just like they serve it at the best of all pie places -- House of Pies on Larchmont and Vermont in the good ole Los Feliz neighbourhood of Hollywood of LA of California.
-
Pictures! BK! I want pictures of last night's festivities!
-
I had a wonderful Dutch Apple pie at House of Pies with our very own BK last summer
-
Good morning!
Not a cloud in this forgeous blue sky, but cold, cold cold. Argh! 19 last night and the possibility of 14 tonight. Highs in the 40s. Not ypical for December around here.
-
Thrilled that THE BRAIN opening was mostly smooth sailing and was so well received. That's always a great hurdle to get jumped. Now, onward and upward!
Congrats to all!
-
I have 3 1/2 hours of TV backlogged on my DVR plus two movies that need to get watched and either erased or burned onto DVDs before the end of the weekend.
And, of course, SUPERMAN RETURNS for tonight. No substitutions allowed!
-
And I've been up since 6:30. Had a very troubling dream and couldn't fall back asleep once it woke me up. I doubt I'll get a nap today either, so I'm hoping that means I fall into bed tonight and sleep like the dead to catch up from last night's six hours.
-
Heading down now to tidy up a few things downstairs. May be back on later this morning.
-
Good morning Ginny!
Hi, Cillaliz! I was away from the computer - not ignoring you ;)
TOD - The Grand Finale in Cincinnati (Glendale, actually) serves an exquisite Chocolate Cordial Pie. For fruit pie, my blueberry pie is pretty darn good, as is my Aunt Jo's peach cobbler (not exactly pie, but close).
-
Pie! Coconut Cream with whipped cream on top just like they serve it at the best of all pie places -- House of Pies on Larchmont and Vermont in the good ole Los Feliz neighbourhood of Hollywood of LA of California.
I second that! I'm not a pie lover, but the coconut cream at House of Pies is to die for.
-
I'm up, I'm up, and shall try to jog pre Du-Par's.
-
I have, of late, become very fond of Custard Pie and Pumpkin Pie with lots of whipped cream.
-
TOD:
Mince-Apple pie with a good Hard Sauce!
der Brucer
-
Skip made a delicious pasta pie, which he learned to cook at the Instutute for culinary education. It has a fancier name than pasta pie, but I don't know what that name is.
-
The lyric ot the famed Neil Diamond single "Porcupine Pie":
Porcupine Pie Lyrics
Porcupine Pie, Porcupine Pie, Porcupine Pie
Vanilla Soup, a double scoop please
No, maybe I won't, maybe I won't, maybe I will
The tutti fruit with fruity blue cheese
Ah, but Porcupine Pie, Porcupine Pie, Porcupine Pie
Don't let it get on your jeans
And though it sounds a little strange
Well, you gotta eat it with gloves
Or your hands will turn green
Ah, but porcupine pie, porcupine pie, porcupine pie,
It weaves its way through my dreams,
And I do believe I'm gonna have one and
Leave enough room for dessert, chicken ripple ice cream.
-
Good morning, all! Yes, it was quite a festive evening, and I'm a bit loggy today. I look forward to seeing everyone today. I've started packing for tomorrow's flight, and the Brain is - for the nonce - a part of my past. I don't think my sojourn with it is over yet, but it will be on hiatus for a while. Damn! I will miss it.
-
Trying to get up the energy to jog - and failing. If the sun were out, I'd be out there, but the sun isn't out and I'm in here.
-
well, HI, guys!
-
Whatta show!
-
Sorry for your airport nightmare, Fred.
-
Bruce, thanks for the tickets - my gang really loved it, and Felice may be bringing in a gang for next week. I think Bill is sending his sister, niece and several friends.
-
I thought Cindy looked very good - last time I saw her, maybe three years ago at the gym in Agoura Hills, she looked stressed and harried. Nice to see her looking so pretty - who were those kids with her?
-
Okay, well, i see I'm talking to myself - so I'll just skedaddle and go on my merry way into my day...
-
Elmore, always a wonderful treat to see you and talk. A true highlight of my week, boychik! Love you, and look forward to another get together ASAP...
-
Penny, you're not talking to yourself, people are listening.
-
When I was dieting, i used to make a mean ricotta and pineapple cheesecake, which according to the diet was supposed to serve as a meal. Trouble was, after a while, i started eating a regular meal and having the cheesecake as dessert. :)
-
Hi all! I sat down to post and Santa came down the street! I had to run outside and give him a wave. :)
-
I'm so happy everything went so well for the"Brain". I only wish that I was there as well. Maybe next time.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful time and that lots of pictures (HINT, HINT) are being taken to be shared with those of us who could not make it.
-
I can type. Really I can.
-
I have to run down the store to get some pasta to go with the sause that I'm slow cooking. Yummers.
-
Santa just went down the back street. I told Bear he'd better not bark and scare Santa away or there won't be any dog goodies on Christmas for him.
I'll be back after my short trip to the store. Good driving vibes for DearReaderLaura! Good trip vibes to those who need them. Be safe!

Nurses Complain About Heart Attack Grill
By AMANDA LEE MYERS
AP
TEMPE, Ariz. (Dec. 9) - The Heart Attack Grill - a theme restaurant whose specialties include the Quadruple Bypass Burger and Flatliner Fries, cooked in pure lard - is making health-care professionals' blood pressure rise, and not because of the menu.
It is because of the waitresses' naughty nurse uniforms.
The waitresses wear skimpy, cleavage-baring outfits, high heels and thigh-high stockings - a male fantasy that some nursing organizations say is an insult to the profession.
…
The most serious complaint Basso has faced was made to the Arizona attorney general's office by the state Board of Nursing. In September, the attorney general's office wrote Basso a letter informing him that he is illegally using the word "nurse" at his restaurant and on his Web site. Citing Arizona Statute A.R.S. 32-1636, the attorney general said only someone who has a valid nursing license can use the title "nurse."
Basso refused to remove "nurse" from his Web site but inserted an asterisk next to every nurse reference and included the following disclaimer:
"The use of the word `nurse' above is only intended as a parody. None of the women pictured on our Web site actually have any medical training, nor do they attempt to provide any real medical services. It should be made clear that the Heart Attack Grill and its employees do NOT offer any therapeutic treatments (aside from laughter) whatsoever."
…
The Heart Attack Grill opened a year ago with a Hooters-like formula of red meat and sexy waitresses. Diners choose from among four cheeseburgers: the Single, Double, Triple and Quadruple Bypass. The Quadruple is a towering monstrosity with four half-pound beef patties, four pieces of cheese and a mound of bacon.
"Essentially, it's nutritional pornography. It's so bad for you it's shocking," Basso said.
If "patients," as customers are called, finish a triple or quadruple bypass, waitresses will push them out to their cars in wheelchairs at no additional charge.

Pies?? Coconut Cream, Banana Cream, Pecan. Yum!
-
Now that I've just arrived, I have to leave to go to work. Right after that, I'm off to my show. Later!
-
It's a balmy 56 degrees here right now. Great after having single digit temps a day or two ago. I have a couple windows open so the girls can have some fresh air. It's great.
-
I am so envious! Sitting here in my half-moved-into new apartment, reading about all the excitement and and joy of the opening of THE BRAIN. How I wish I could be there to be part of theatre history!
-
Hi Cilla! Hi Fred!
Fred, sorry to read about your flight problems.
-
TCB, HI! you must have said hello just as I was leaving. Didn't mean to ignore you. If it makes you feel any better, I've been here since February and still haven't gotten everything settled yet. It's a big house, but that's really not an excuse
-
Happy belated birthday to BK! I am glasd that the Brain opening was a success. I now hoave tpo backtracjk to doscover ehat happened to poor FJLand Skip although I presume they missed their flight due to airport personel incompetence
-
Saskatoonberry pie!
Lemon merigune pie!
Hot apple pie with cheddar cheese or vanilla ice cream (never both)
Chicken pot. chicken pot. chicken pot pie!!!!!!
-
Hi Vixmom! Still liking the job?
-
Off to find a new filter for my humidifier. I'm hoping I can find one. It's such a beautiful day, it will be nice just to drive around.
-
Are we on page 3 yet?
-
My favorite part of my conversation today with Customer Service at the airline was when I said we were on the line at the airport at 2:10 for a 3:30 flight, and he countered triumphantly with "Well, we recommend that you be there at least an hour and a half before the flight."
We were on the line 1 hour and 20 minutes before the flight, not an hour and a half, so I assume that must be what made all the difference and explains their cutting back from seven to two helpers with a long line snaking around three times.
-
Ain't nothin' goin' on but the rant
-
TOTD:
Oz is the land of the Meat Pie!
I do not share Paul McCartney's fondness for pie. (A "Penny Lane" reference).
"Strawberry Fields" was not a Pie reference though.
-
Skip enjoyed his Cherry Pie with Flip in 1960. (FJL was too young)
(Flip later went on to share his pie with Alley Oop)
-
"American Pie" is one of my favourite platters. One of the best albums of the 1970's
-
Not much of a pie eater. I'm mean, I like it just fine, but if it's a choice between pie and cake, I'll take cake every time.
However, I do love apple, cherry, strawberry, or pecan pie.
I guess Boston Cream Pie doesn't count? :D
-
I was able to watch three programs this afternoon. I began with last night's JUSTICE. Jane Seymour played a woman who shot her teenaged son, she claimed in self-defense.
Once the fact of the case were revealed and the suspects placed before us, I figured this one out very easily. And thus I concurred with the jury's decision completely.
-
Next was last night's LAW & ORDER, an interesting case with the female CEO of a financial institution standing trial for the murder of one of her male underlings. Again, some surprising revelations during the hour, but I concurred completely with the jury in this one, too.
-
I finshed the afternoon watching the last MURDER SHE WROTE episode on disc 4 of the fourth season set. In this one, Jessica is in NYC checking out the new restaurant she's become an investor in. Her nephew Grady and his fiance Donna are both accountants for the firm, and, of course, the maitre'd is murdered. Enjoyable episode with Dick Gautier as the murder victim and Jack Carter, Sonny Bono, and Norman Fell as suspects.
-
Oh good heavens, we're still on page 3???
-
We really must start a frenzy or two or three
-
I see lots of people, but no one's talking....
-
Well, I washed my car today and put some air in one of my tires that was a bit low
-
To post or not to post.
I'm listening again to the "new" Beatles album.
-
And the word of the day is: GREGARIOUS!
Casey would waltz
With one strawberry blonde after another...
Those he had already danced with couldn't decide
If he was being GREGARIOUS or merely a male slut.
-
It's Saturday night and I am here with the cats...again.....
-
But it's just where I want to be ;D
-
But with cats like Tomovoz, Matt and myself, who else do you need, dear Cillaliz?
-
No one, that's why it's just where I want to be.
-
My mother was a very good pie maker. Her specialties were lemon merangue (with a graham cracker crust) and pumpkin. Now that she isn't with us, I've lost my taste for either. :'(
-
Do you have here recipes? Making the pies and enjoying them would be a great way to remember her
-
This being my day off, I have spent most of it catching up on my sleep. The dogs have spent most of it using me as a pillow.
Der Brucer, being thoughtful, removed a leg of lamb from our freezer to thaw.
The catch is, it's still hard as a rock.
The leg of lamb may have to wait until tomorrow to be consumed.
:-\
-
Has anyone heard about the new show "One Punk Under God, the Prodigal Son of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker?
-
I just checked the Billboard Album charts. Great to see that music recorded over 35 years ago can still make it to the top selling albums. The remixes of all the Beatles tracks are not all that different from the originals. In OZ the album "Love" is only being outsold by U2 - not exactly a new group either.
-
I made a tasty meatloaf. I was really hungry for it, but I've been tasting the onions all afternoon
-
I'm having a "Christmas" lunch with DP Colin's relatives today. I'll try and control my excitement!
-
Unfortunately, Mom never shared the recipes with me. Men "aren't supposed to cook", after all. And by the time the cooking bug caught me, she was already gone.
If she shared any of her recipes with my sister, I doubt that she'd be willing to pass them my way. That we don't get along is an understatement.
-
And with that revelation, I shall depart the Board until much "laters".
I miss DR Jose.
-

Sorry to hear that. I've got to finish the cookbooks I made from my mother's recipes either tonight or tomorrow and get them wrapped and packed up for Christmas...I'm the only one in the family who thought it was worth the effort to type in all my mom's recipes. Now they all want the results...go figure
-
Like DR S. Woody, my mother was very reluctant to share recipes with me. She taught me a few things in the kitchen and a few basic sewing things (buttons). But I think she though my learning these things might prevent me from looking for a wife, though why it's HER job to know these things, I don't know. Well, my mother was from that very gender specific generation that lived through the depression.
Anyway, her prize confection, cocoanut cake, she never sahred the recipe with me and went to her grave with the secret of its lusciousness.
-
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]Page Four Dance!!![/move]
-
Well, if you are looking for any recipe in particular, I have a feeling someone on this site will have one, it may not be just like mom's but it will undoubtedly be good
-
Heading now to watch a few short programs before watching SUPERMAN RETURNS.
WBBL.
-
But with cats like Tomovoz, Matt and myself, who else do you need, dear Cillaliz?
Yeah, but the only cat who Knows Where It's At is from Paree! Mais oui! :)
-
My mom rarely used her recipes. She just knew how to throw things together and viola! I spent many hours in the kitchen watching her and that has helped me considerably in my cooking abilities. Of course I am a girl, and I realize that made a difference in attitudes back then. I don't think my brother watched her cook much although he is a good cook
-
It's Saturday night and I am here with the cats...again.....
Alone Again!
Naturally!
(Only know Johnny Mathis' version!)
-
Yeah, but the only cat who Knows Where It's At is from Paree! Mais oui! :)
Francois, so wonderful to see you!
-
My mother was a very good pie maker. Her specialties were lemon merangue
As DR DerBrucer would correct... it's "meringue!"
Glacée or not, I don't care for meringue! (In case someone asks you! ;))
-
They are now advertising the "Bust Free Bra" If you don't have a bust, why do you need a bra?
-
Of course there is peanut butter pie...but that's way too sweet for me
-
This being my day off, I have spent most of it catching up on my sleep. The dogs have spent most of it using me as a pillow.
Der Brucer, being thoughtful, removed a leg of lamb from our freezer to thaw.
The catch is, it's still hard as a rock.
The leg of lamb may have to wait until tomorrow to be consumed.
:-\
That reminds me of a Hitchcock TV movie! With Vera Miles, I believe!
-
I love watching "Flip this House"
-
Have we heard much about breakfast this morning?
-
Where are the photos? There must be photos!
-
Men "aren't supposed to cook", after all.
Aaaah! Heard that once from my own father!
I guess most famous CHEFS in the world have had a sex change! ;)
-
More break a leg vibes for the Brain From Planet X cast and crew
-
And with that revelation, I shall depart the Board until much "laters".
I miss DR Jose.
Remember, you're a Cher Man of this Board, and Sony never had anything to do with it!
(Cher as in "Dear", bien sûr!)
-
George, I see you......
-
I miss DR Jose.
I guess we put too many blames on him!....
-
I miss DR Jose, too.
-
DR FJL, maybe you and Skip should get some rubber dart guns (the kind you have when you're a little kid) watch that Airport reality show and shoot the rubber darts at the TV. I did that after a certain election about 6 years ago. It was quite theraputic and caused no one any harm
-
She just knew how to throw things together and viola!
Wrong instrument! ;)
Voilà; sort of "see-here!"....
-
Francois, so wonderful to see you!
Oooh... thank you!
I posted the other day along with you... and even teased you BUT you kept ignoring me! Unseemly! :P
;D
-
They are now advertising the "Bust Free Bra" If you don't have a bust, why do you need a bra?
Maybe but it's FREE! :D
-
George, I see you......
Cill Sees People!
(Scary!)
-
Wrong instrument! ;)
Voilà; sort of "see-here!"....
LOL, yea well I've always wanted to learn to play the viola ;D
-
I miss DR Jose, too.
I miss DR Jose, three! ;)
-
Oooh... thank you!
I posted the other day along with you... and even teased you BUT you kept ignoring me! Unseemly! :P
;D
I don't think I ignored you, if I did it wasn't intentional. It's always good to see you
-
Cill Sees People!
(Scary!)
And since DR George is in Canibal...I bet he see's dead people
-
LOL, yea well I've always wanted to learn to play the viola ;D
But the cats would not approve!
(The Cat & the Fiddle?)
-
Fiddle Dee Dee! New page!
-
DR George snuck off without a word...
-
And since DR George is in Canibal...I bet he see's dead people
Well, he even eats them!
Talk about meat pies! ;)
-
But the cats would not approve!
(The Cat & the Fiddle?)
Would that make the cows jump over the moon? Might be worth learning to play
-
DR George snuck off without a word...
.... he had his mouth full!!
-
Would that make the cows jump over the moon? Might be worth learning to play
The man in the moon is a lady
Bea told me that, once!
-
Would that make the cows jump over the moon?
Mad cows would not!
-
The man in the moon is a lady
Bea told me that, once!
A lady with lipstick and pearls perhaps?
-
A lady with lipstick and pearls perhaps?
That is so.... (green) cheesy! :D
-
I see we are safely over the all time low...I must go feed the cats.
-
A lady with lipstick and pearls perhaps?
Oh! She told you that too!! Such a good girl!
And a golden one at that!
-
That is so.... (green) cheesy! :D
Maybe it's cheesy but it's also the next line of the song from MAME
-
Actually Vera told me...
-
I see we are savely over the all time low...I must go feed the cats.
I LOVE your conclusion!
(Feed the cats! Tuppence a bag!)
-
Gotta run, it's been fun...see ya later, alligator
Now THAT'S cheesy
-
Actually Vera told me...
Oh, I was... miles away from guessing!!
(Does she still have that frozen leg?!)
-
Gotta run, it's been fun...see ya later, alligator
Now THAT'S cheesy
My fromages to you!
-
More break a leg vibes for the Brain From Planet X cast and crew
The leg of lamb is still too cold to break. Dang it.
-
If there are only 2 left.... will be the ones, Cill!
-
The leg of lamb is still too cold to break. Dang it.
You mean... the leg is in the cast??! So... it broke! ??? ;D
-
Der Brucer was watching a first season episode of NCIS. He's now re-watching it, with the commentary track. ::)
-
Maybe it's cheesy but it's also the next line of the song from MAME
Oh... I made the connection so, I was going on with "a bed of green cheese, see?!
(DON'T tell me I'm too subtle!!)
-
George, I see you......
Hi! I'm at work ordering high demand talking books. :P
;)
-
And since DR George is in Canibal...I bet he see's dead people
Well, actually, I never get a chance to see the dead people. I'm off stage when it happens, furiously changing my costume. ::)
-
Quick hello from a cybercafe in West Hollywood. looking forward to the show tonight.
Well tell all tomorrow
-
Hello from Hollywood. I just arrived at my motel. I am very tired.
-
This morning I went for a drive, and along the way, I saw this:
-
And these lovely autumn colors:
-
The yellow-headed blackbirds were a nice sight:
-
This coyote was looking for breakfast:
-
Great Photos! Have you seen any Hainesies or Kimlets yet?
-
So was the kestrel:
-
This coyote was looking for breakfast:
I bet he answers to the name of Peter!
-
Great Photos! Have you seen any Hainesies or Kimlets yet?
Nope. I just got here. I will see them tonight at the show.
-
So was the kestrel:
Mae?!
-
Great Photos! Have you seen any Hainesies or Kimlets yet?
They were looking for breakfast too!
-
Always glad to see Sandhill Cranes!
-
Those are some very nice pictures, DearReaderLaura!
-
I think that's it.
-
Thanks, George. I took a bit of a detour today. Probably explains why it took me twelve hours to get here.
-
Well, I'm done with work. Off to run some errands...I need to get a lip liner pencil ;) and a pencil sharpener. For the show!! No, really, it's for the show. ;D
Anyway, after tonight's show will be another cast party (the third that we've had but only the second one that I've been able to go to) and tomorrow we have a matinee. Then only one more weekend of performances!
As Jose used to say (when he posted regularly ::)) Laters!
:D
-
Hooray for Hollywood!
-
That's all I have to say. :)
-
Maybe I'll just be in denial and make believe I'm in L.A.
Gosh, those Du-Par's pancakes were delish.
-
I'm stuck at the corner of Hollywood and Whine.
-
I love to be a part of it
L.A. L.A.
-
I gotta wake up in the city that's got the Brain
To find I'm king of the Hills, just off the plane
-
Aw, you shoulda come on the other flight, FJL.
-
My luck, I would've missed the connecting flight.
-
Regrets I have a few
And I will let them make me mental
I didn't have a clue
The fools all work at Continental
-
Well, my "short" trip to the store turned out to be longer then I thought it would be.
One of the items I picked up was a wireless keyboard, which I am now using to type the words you are now reading.
The cart I have my computer on isn't the right height for me and I've noiticed how much my shoulders and back have been hurting me when I'm typing on the keyboard for a long time.
This is GREAT! I have it across my lap and am most comfortable.
-
I'm sorry that you had such problems with your flight, FJL. I've never had anything go wrong on the few trips that I've taken.
-
The Space Shuttle has launched successfully. Amazing to see it as a nighttime event, even on television.
I can remember those early launches, with Projects Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo. I lost track of the number of mornings that we would get up early to watch them before heading off to school. That Dad knew several of the people involved was reason enough for him to go to work late.
-
Crap! I missed it. I wanted to try to take some video of it going up.
-
And since DR George is in Canibal...I bet he see's dead people
No, Cilla, I believe George seas (ons) dead people!
-
Danise, I hope you re feeling better.
-
Danise, nice to see you posting. :)
-
After thinking long and hard about it, Skip is going ahead with his San Francisco wine trip, mainly since all the hotel costs are already paid for and subject to forfeiture, and the friends who were counting on his being there have been there since Thursday.
So I'll be stuck, I mean entrusted :) , with Toby and Dylan until Thursday night.
-
To Serve George is a cook book!
-
Laura, give my best to everyone at the show tonight.
-
I certainly will.
And now... I am off to see the show!
-
DR Laura manages to find wonderful things to photograph even on holiday! Thanks for the pics.
-
I had an interesting assortment of viewing experiences tonight.
I began with HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS. Hadn't watched this DVD I bought in years (had been seeing it on TV, I guess), so it was nice getting to see my own copy.
I can see why Warners remastered it into a new edition this year. I have the older issue, of course, and the color timing is off pretty severely.

Next, I put in a TWILIGHT ZONE disc and watched a favorite episode, "The 16 MM Shrine" with Ida Lupino. Always found it a haunting SUNSET BLVD. type story and enjoyed seeing it again after many years.
-
Next up was SUPERMAN RETURNS.
I have to say I was disappointed. It had no magic. Maybe it would have been more effective if I had seen it in the theater, but I found Parker Posey irritating and felt Superman wasn't very gallant with Lois married now even if he did have a child with her. That entire triangle gave me a very uneasy feeling throughout. I felt very bad for James Marsden's character who was an innocent bystander in all of this.
I haven't read a SUPERMAN/ACTION comic in decades. Is this story based on the current mythology? i.e. Lois is married to someone other than Superman?
The DVD transfer was also problematic for me. I found it drab with a slight softness I wasn't expecting (did director Bryan Singer give it this look to add a dreamy quality to it or is the transfer simply mediocre? The transfer for BATMAN BEGINS was so razor sharp, it was stunning, and I thought this would be its equal. Not on my TV.
And the color looked somewhat off to me, too. It looked blotchy. I watched an episode of BONES on DVD right after, and the sharpness and superb color was so superior to the look of SUPERMAN RETURNS that I almost thought I got a defective disc.
I have to think these were esthetic choices made by the director and studio for such a recent movie to have this look on DVD.

The BONES episode I watched to wrap up my evening of viewing concerned the discovery of two bodies (a young woman and an older man) buried in a garden. The investigation led to illegal innigrants, street gangs, and a U.S. Senator.

Yee and Haw! I finally finished updating the cookbooks and they are ready to wrap for the family. It took me 3 1/2 hours just to do a little update in all of them. I have a few more recipes I got at Thanksgiving, but I'm not adding them to all 12 books. From now on I'll update my own copy and let everyone else add to theirs. I've been working on this for 3 years. I am so glad to say I am done.

I'm heading off to bed now hopefully to sleep more than the barely 6+ hours I got last night.
Good night!

Well you can always hang out with us here at HHW

Well, I'm outta here. Looking forward to reading reports from the gang in LA

I'm back. The show was great fun. Lots of laughs. If anything went wrong (except maybe that one light problem) I didn't see anything.
Great cast and songs and music and dance number! Our dear reader Merrill was spectacular -- she had a HUGE part that she learned in just a couple of days.

Let me smallerize some pictures from dinner.

DR MBarnum just dropped me off at my host's after a wonderful evening at "The Bain From Planet X" and a get-together at Genghis Cohen's with our host BK, DRs Adriana Patti, Merrill, Michael S, MBarnum, DearReaderLaura, MusicGuy, Hisaka - who I hope will return to us - and Adriana's mother, Michael S' friend whose name I forget and Kevin Spirtas. What a festive day!
It was sad to say goodbye to my wonderful new friends in the cast and band. I will miss them, and I hope some of them will join HHW and become part of the best site on the internet.
Tomorrow I fly back to NYC, so I could use any and all travel vibes you care to send. Good night, all!
