Well, you've read the notes, you know all about Sharon McNight's Nuts, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home, which will be just as soon as Jack Frost stops nipping at their collective noses.

And the word of the day is: EXCURSUS!
-
Good morning, all! I'm so isolated at times: I knew about the dreadful weather, but I had no idea how dire things currently were for some of you wonderful HHW friends in the Northwest. Please know I'm praying for your safety, health, and comfort.
I'm trying to finish up my Christmas chores, still praying the BABES project is not closing down in 15 days. I don't believe it is, but I wont feel comfortable till I know that I'm still billing for work on Jan 2 and being paid. This morning, I'm off to the Post Office to mail some items, I must give some thought to something for my father, and I have no idea what to give him except my heart, and he already has that. I'll play a bit on Amazon and eBay today and see if anything turns up.
TOD: At the moment, I have no Christmas memories except for one from around 1977: my crazy, angry mother throwing Christmas gifts at my brother and sister-in-law in the front yard for being late to Christmas dinner because of in-law jealousy. Oy!
-
I have blocked all MEMORIES of Christmas. That is all.
-
DRJANE - thanks for asking. No I don't think she made the right decision. Molly is coming to visit us for a few days next month.
Maybe she will stay, but I doubt it. I just hope they get their power back today. A Saturday without power - whew!
-
I am sending VIBES for the BRAIN taping and looking forward to the CAST RECORDING after Jan 1....sometime.....on the Kritzerland label.
-
Working today and hoping for a BIG retail Saturday. Time will tell.
I bought an external floppy drive.
-
The title of today's column made me think of that old Paramount Popeye cartoon that was set in the Great Northwest....when three snarling bears suddenly broke into song:
McBluto's Furs hit the spot.
Finest furs is what we got.
If a girl you wish to charm,
Buy a fur at McBluto's Farm.
[In Harmony]
Furry furry furry furry furry furry furry furry...furrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Saturday morning greetings! Today's my last work Saturday of 2006 and I'm teaching the December edition of Grantseeking Basics this morning.
Thoughts and prayers go out to all our Pacific Northwest Hainsies/Kimlets for power restoration and recovery from wind damage. Yikes!
-
And the word of the day is: EXCURSUS!
Casey would waltz
With a strawberry blonde
To the same melody hour after hour, night after night,
As they perfected their EXCURSUS on the subject of the dance
Never noticing that the band itself had drifted away.

Have a great session, DRGINNY.
I am off to work myself.
-
Hi DR SWW....have a great day!
-
Have a great session, DRGINNY.
I am off to work myself.
Thanks, DR JRand! I just got word that the assistant manager of my department will be sitting in today. Our manager, who's heard the presentation twice, has directed all members of our department to attend this monthly workshop sometime during 2007. Guess the AM decided to get that requirement completed early.
Have a good day yourself!

On the title of today's notes:
Skip went to a wedding a few years back in the Hamptons and it was already 9 pm and I hadn't heard anything. The phone rings and a voice says "Hello this is Bette Davis, letting you know Skip is here in the car and on his way home." It sounds like Bette Davis, but I ask who is this and stuff like that and the flawless impersonation continues, recounting the fun of the wedding. Finally, "Bette" lets Skip on the phone, and I say "That was fun, who was that?" And Skip says, fully heard by the Bette Davis impersonator: "That's Sharon McNight. She's acting crazy tonight" and people in the cra, including I'm sure Sharon McNight herself, laugh hysterically.
At least that's how I remember it: It's a "Sharon McNight's crazy" story to accompany the "Sharon McNight's nuts" story told by BK. :)

I should get off line and back to bed. Today is a day off, but since I already had a day off this week I might get called in, and I want to appear rested and wonderful if that happens.
In any case, I should check for phone messages. And when I get up again, the dogs will appreciate getting a second breakfast!
-
And DR FJL, you are up way too early! Go back to bed! (After giving Beegee a loving pet from me!)
-
It's Saturday, the sun is shining on the pond anbd reflecting the trees beautifully.
I've had a plate of grits, bacon and a piece of toast. I've had my coffee.
It is time to get on with the doings of the day.

Any thoughts from anyone in LA about Laemmle's Music Hall theatre?
We got an email from Gregory Laemmle that he wanted to book us there, and that he hoped to show there and not move us to The Grand. I don't know either of these theatres. Would one be more likely to draw a crowd than the other?
-
Grits. Yes, you are in The South, DR Ron!
-
I did, indeed, go to the "visitation" last night. Am glad I did. All my maternal first cousins were there. The ex-wife of my cousin Butch -- and the daughter of the deceased - seemed particularly glad to see me and spend a good deal of time walking me around and introducing me to members of her family, all of whom assured me had been told many nice things about me.
I was stunned. And taken aback. I had never heard a word about any of these people, but I was assured the ex-wife had counted me among her favorite ex-"in-law" relations, so I'm pretty well pleased with that news (I was, indeed, taken with her the first time I met her when she was a mere 17 years old and dating my first cousin). She's been a "favorite" person ever since, although we've long been out of touch.
Having met so many folks disposed to "like" me after only one sighting reassures me that I actually CAN retire here in the near future.
-
Since I'm a bit behind, I thought I'd mention a couple of Christmas albums I love.
Here's one from the early 70s, with gorgeous arrangements by my friend Peter Schickele, AKA PDQ Bach, whose "Oedipus Tex" is one of the funniest parodies of classical music I know:
"You murdered your father,
You married your mother,
You rascal, you're my kind of guy!" as sung by the great Dana Krueger is one of the funniest arias since "Glitter and Be Gay."
-
And I play this one a lot since I love John Rutter's Christmas arrangements.
-
Grits. Yes, you are in The South, DR Ron!
I prepare the occasional bowl of grits in Oakland, too, Amy. Somehow, though....it never tastes quite the same!
Must be the water!!!!

Good news on the washing machine agitator-that-ate-my-shirts front:
A service person will be here at 11 a.m. with an hydraulic agitator remover. Yes, he has encountered similar problems. No, it isn't humanly possible to remove a "stuck" agitator with normal exertion. Yes, he can take care of the problem in a jiffy with hopes that the remaining shirt will be unharmed.

Healthy good wishes are directed toward Bee Gee!
-
All best wishes to our friends in the Northwest who may or may not have been adversely affected by the storm.

One Christmas memory I have is of the year I was single, between husbands. I usually loved to decorate for Christmas and have been collecting ornaments for many years. But that Christmas I was pretty depressed. An old high school friend who seemed interested in being more than friends was shocked that I wasn't putting up a tree.
The week before Christmas, the grocery store was giving away free trees, trying to get rid of them. Even though I still didn't feel like putting up a tree, I thought, "well, it's free..." and crammed it into my Toyota and brought it home. I left it laying in the yard beside my house for several days, still unmotivated to bring it inside. My friend stopped by and saw the poor tree. He said "That's pathetic. You should at least put it up outside even if you don't want to decorate it." So he helped me put up the tree on the porch. Having it there, even undecorated, gave me a bit more Christmas spirit, because it smelled so good.
I went to my father's on Christmas eve. When I came home I discovered the tree was decorated. It was sparse, with lots of cheap plastic baubles, but I was very touched that my friend felt it was important to do that.
The next year I was with Greg and back to decorating a tree indoors. But since we've acquired a herd of cats, I'm not sure when we'll ever have a tree indoors again. Not that I'd have time to decorate it, but I do love a tree in the house! (I guess the people in Washington aren't saying that right now...)

From the serious to the seriously tacky, I see that HarperCollins, presumably fed up over the scandal of her last two publishing efforts - OJ's "If I Did It" and the Mickey Mantle novel - has sacked editor Judith Regan. Someone's showing good taste in this era always surprises me.

Good news on the washing machine agitator-that-ate-my-shirts front:
Yay! Good shirt news!
I didn't realize that you were home for a funeral, though. I somehow missed that bit of information. I thought you were just going home for the holidays.
I like grits, especially cheese grits. Yummmm. Think I'll go have some now!

Good morning!
Beautiful, gorgeous, heavenly, highs in the 70s. This is December?
-
BeeGee seems a little more like his "normal" self (such as that is, LOL) today. We're still on pins and needles wondering if this weird bloat will recur as suddenly as it did yesterday. Hopefully not. We're going to get the stomach attaching surgery done probably next week. Thanks to all for their good wishes.
Christmas memories: We did Christmas, so sue me. ;) I remember one year my Dad was gone on Army business and my mom, sisters and I went out, bought a tree, got it up and completely decorated. We were almost done, putting our traditional angel (named Angie--an antique thing my Mom had had since her birth) on the top when the entire tree fell over, with all the glass ornaments shattering. Of course, just at that moment, my Dad walked through the front door. ::)

Maybe I saw it wrong, but I thought the murderer was the suspect's parole officer, wasn't it; not the gas meter reader? The meter reader saw a figure inside bashing in the apartment manager, and it was revealed to be the parole officer who was never accused of the crime.
Or maybe I just saw it wrong.

We finished the Christie Boxed Set last night with the pretty abominable Sparkling Cyanide, which was another version of the Suchet Poirot Yellow Iris. Does anyone know if the Poirot appropriated (or should that be apPOIROTiated) a non-Poirot story, or did Sparkling Cyanide remove Poirot in its rewrite?

Nope, this was my annual pilgrimage to SC. The funeral is incidental.

I'd lose some weight if I got more EXCURSUS.
-
I've had many fine Christmases, so it's tough to single out a specific Christmas "memory" that stands above others. I still remember being a kid and waking up way too early....sneaking down the hall to see if Santa had been there...and then nearly peeing my PJs as I beheld a bounty of beauteous things. And then my mother said, "It's too early. Go back to bed." So I did, and I just lay there, occasionally turning and deliberately squeaking the mattress springs, until it was apparent I would not be sleeping any more.
So-o-o-o-o-o exciting.
But I've had many gratifying Christmases as an adult, more often than not slightly tarnished by some relative or another who had some bug or other up their butts.
-
I'd lose some weight if I got more EXCURSUS.
Excursus, excursus....

As a choir girl, I think I'm obliged to say that my favorite Christmas tunage are P.D.Q. Bach's Consort of Christmas Carols.
http://www.schickele.com/composition/consortchristmas.htm
But I really do adore Peter Schickele...in that I love singing the PDQB choral pieces & I learned more theory from his radio show than I did from my HS choir director kind of way.

Good morning all. Great news that BeeGee is feeling better. Continuned vibes that all stays well through the surgery.
I must do many things today...I must find my address book so I can try to get cards out. I still haven't decided if I'll make them or buy them, so I must do that as well. I'd like to hit some of the sales to see if I can find some work clothes.
Sometime this weekend I must spend a few hours at the office. Between being in pain and running around on my new case I've got some things backed up that should be attended to before Monday.
-
Sometime this weekend I'm planning to watch The Beales of Grey Gardens. It's the movie that was recently released made from the footage that wasn't used in Grey Gardens.
-
I did some puppy sitting last night. I like this job!
-
I'm up, I'm up, and am scurrying to get ready and get out of here before she of the Evil Eye gives me the Evil Eye.
Edisaurus: The Grand is, I believe, downtown and should be avoided. The Music Hall is in Beverly Hills - haven't been there in years, so I don't know what shape it's in, but it's one of their most known theaters, so I'd go for that, and I will, of course, be there for the showing.
-
So SPRING AWAKENING seems to be being hailed as the second coming among musicals. I did like it quite a lot, although I thought it was uncomfortably graphic at times, but who knew that crossing songs being almost entirely internal monologues (which frankly seems to me to be easier to write than usual musical material) with rock concert staging complete with hand-held microphones - while all extremely exciting and entertaining - would be hailed as revolutionary musical theater? Is it just that it's music that's accepted as good music (and it is IMHO) and staging that's wildly entertaining (and it is IMHO), even though the techniques have been around forever? I daresay it's not new, it's just good, but certainly not new.

Singingnymph-NO MORE COLD VIBES!
JRand-I hope your sister doesn’t return to Seattle, or if she returns is very happy there.

Today when I purchased a white feather boa to be used as a prop in tomorrow's Christmas concert, the clerk asked me if I was going out tonight. I told her yes, that I would be partying with my feather boa and leopard-spotted tights. She looked horrified.

-
Cillaliz-ouch-I’m glad your back is better now.
-
Elmore-I had a few Christmas memories similar to yours. Fortunately before those I had many years of fun, happy memories. I was also sick during a number of Christmases. I remember the year I wasn’t permitted downstairs at all. I was very upset my family opened my gifts to them that were under the tree. I felt they didn’t have the right to do that and should have waited to open them in front of me. I saved all year to purchase my gifts and half the fun of gift giving was watching the expressions of joy when the “perfect” gift was opened.
My best Christmases were when the boys were little.
-
Off hand I can't think of a particular Christmas that stands out, however as far as I can recall every Christmas has been a wonderful Christmas.

Does anyone know if the Poirot appropriated (or should that be apPOIROTiated) a non-Poirot story, or did Sparkling Cyanide remove Poirot in its rewrite?
The Regatta Mystery (1939) contained the story "Yellow Iris" with Hercule Poirot.
That story was expanded into a full length novel "Remembered Death"(1945_) - UK Title "Sparkling Cyanide". - but here a Colonel Race replaces Poirot as the sleuth.
The TV show was a Sue Grafton rewrite of the latter (with some name changes).

Good morning, all! I'm so isolated at times: I knew about the dreadful weather, but I had no idea how dire things currently were for some of you wonderful HHW friends in the Northwest. Please know I'm praying for your safety, health, and comfort.
Thank you very much!! I'm still without power at home, but I'm at work right now, which has power...but of course, it's not home. The Dura-Flame logs worked fairly well, but they are mainly for "decoration." They aren't meant to be used more than one at a time nor for heating your whole house for very long. But they take the chill off when you stand right in front of them ::) (especially when one is nekked! :o). ;) Otherwise my cat Ebonie seems to be okay. She stays upstairs. I guess the fire frightens her, but it could just be that it's a bit warmer up there. I was able to take a fairly warm (but not hot) shower today. I may need to go to my parents' house tomorrow, but we have a matinee, so I won't have much time in the morning. We'll see if the power comes on today or not. :-\

The washing-machine-agitator-hydraulic-lift man has been here and gone.
Dagnabbit, but he never used the lift. He wrangled the remaining stuck shirt out from under the agitator...and then ran a series of checks to determine whether there might be something else under there and whether the agitator was seated properly.
One thing is for sure...the agitator IS stuck. The remedy is to remove it with the lift, with a 75% chance that the agitator will break and need to be replaced.
He recommended against it, primarily because everything is now functioning normally.
When was the last time someone came to your home under professional circumstances, stayed 30 minutes and solved an appliance problem -- including recommending against doing anything unnecessary -- and then charged you only $25?
;D

Thoughts and prayers go out to all our Pacific Northwest Hainsies/Kimlets for power restoration and recovery from wind damage. Yikes!

The day here is beyond glorious...the sun is shining, the air is sweet. The temp is around F 68 degrees.... F 75 in sunny spots. The surface of the pond is smooth and reflective.
It's like a little piece of heaven.

George, thanks for the visual aid! :P
Are you using the regular Dura-Flame logs or the 6-hour logs?
One 6-hour log takes the chill off my living room and keeps me comfy for at least 4 hours (!)...even when I'm in my underwear. Of course, I don't have an upstairs acting as a suction channel for all the warm air downstairs.
-
TOD - One of my favorite Christmas memories is recent, 2004. Not only was it my first HHW Christmas, it was the year that we were hit with a major snowstorm on Dec. 22. DH Richard and I went to the grocery as soon as we realized that the Weather Channel had a reporter on location in Dayton, OH (they send those guys to the BIG stories) and bought enough to keep the 3 of us fed and entertained for several days. We were snowbound for the next 72 hours, which included Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning. I baked and cooked and Christmas-cocooned with just my husband and son. We watched holiday specials on TV, listened to all our Christmas CDs, and marveled at the beauty of deep snow (which we don't see often in SW Ohio). It was glorious.

TOD (cont'd) - Christmas Day 1982 was pretty great, too. Richard and I had a quiet lunch with his parents then flew to NYC for the week. We saw 8 shows in 7 days, spent time with DR Elmore, celebrated New Year's Eve just north of Times Square.

I got a 9-pack of the 6-hour logs at Costco for less that $20 a box. When I went to Fred Meyer for the lighters, they had a 6-pack of the 4-hour logs for almost that much.

I don't think that I've ever had an extra special Christmas...at least that I can specifically remember. They were, of course, more special as a youngster, but they've all been quite nice as an adult. :)

Well, I must be off. I'm going to have lunch with my sister and niece somewhere soon. Have a good day all. Send your vibes for power at the college!! ;D

DR Jrand: I flew out at approximately 11:40 p.m. on the 13th. My arrival in Cincinnati was around 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 14th. My flight out of Cincy was supposed to be 9:10 a.m. We were boarded at 9:50 a.m., taxied out and took a place in line and didn't take off until about 10:15 a.m.
Arrived in Columbia SC at 11:30 a.m. Met by my mom and aunt. The drive to Johnston was an hour. Had a bite to eat.
I then napped and napped and napped. I got up, got dressed, and we went out to a buffet dinner (that all-you-can-eat debacle without sufficient cranberry sauce or "seconds") I complained about yesterday.
Thanks for asking!

WOW! You are indeed fortunate! Is this the norm in SC??
-
Semi-interesting (or not) footnote to my trip east:
My travel companion in seat 2B (I was 2A) was a lady from Cincinnati who works in product development at Procter & Gamble.
She was en route home from a four-day trip to China on business and had, in fact, been travelling about 16 hours when we departed San Francisco.
We spent about an hour of our 4 1/2-hour flight chatting...and talked mostly about bridge, of all things. That's "Bridge", actually...the card game.
-
WOW! You are indeed fortunate! Is this the norm in SC??
Nope. My mom had someone come in once to replace fluorescent lights in the house. There were 10 of them, which she had already purchased.
The guy who came over took 30 minutes. Charged her $60.
She's done it herself ever since.

I wish someone could but it seems only HE can do the job!! Firing himself that is!
-
Nope, this was my annual pilgrimage to SC. The funeral is incidental.
"Love" that! Title to my next murder mystery set at Xmas time!
The Funeral Is Incidental" or Incidental Funeral!

The day here is beyond glorious...the sun is shining, the air is sweet. The temp is around F 68 degrees.... F 75 in sunny spots. The surface of the pond is smooth and reflective.
It's like a little piece of heaven.
Reads like lyrics to a Xmas song!

Singingnymph-NO MORE COLD VIBES!
Thank you! I may be off from work, but my own classes don't break until Christmas eve. So I need all my marbles to do my homework. Can't be medicated & in bed (which actually kind of sounds like fun.)

And I made money doing it!

THE INCIDENTAL TSOURIS - that's the title of something about Ron P's trip

While I do send warmth & safety vibes to all of our forum family in the Pac NW, knowing that the ex is likely freezing his tushy off makes me rather happy.

My goodness, I've been gone for a long time!
What a saga! I finally made up my mind that I was going to dive into one of the high def DVD formats, and I've chosen Blu-Ray. It has support of more studios than its rival format HD-DVD. Its discs have more storage capacity. It has the mighty Sony behind it. Sony lost out with Betamax, but it seems to be on the right side of the fence this time out. Tape recording time was the key to the win/loss in the VHS/Beta war, and I'm guessing greater capacity discs and almost full studio support (of the major studios, only Universal does not support Blu-Ray currently) will tip the scales toward Blu-Ray in this war.
At any rate, the cheapest Blu-Ray player out there is the Playstation 3 videogame machine, and we know how rare a species they are right now. But there are THOUSANDS of them for sale at Ebay, and for fun, I've been putting my lowball bids in (more for fun than anything; always below list price which practically assured I wouldn't win; folks wanted $1000 for $500 machines).
Wouldn't you know it? I was the second highest bidder on a machine yesterday, and the winner didn't claim his prize, so the seller offered me a Second Chance offer with my lowball/under retail bid as the winning bid! So, I'm going to be watching high definition DVDs within the next week or two. I had to wire the money through Western Union, and I had never done this before, so I was out and about taking care of this earlier today.
-
I had time for only two DVD viewings today. I finshed up with HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES (1939) which I started last night. When it was over, I went back to selected scenes and listened to the commentary. I had heard the commentary before, too, but had forgotten some of the points. I never knew until this commentary that Richard Greene, who played Sir Henry, also played Sir Hugo in the flashback story.
-
Since I only had one disc to go in the MURDER SHE WROTE fourth season box, I put it in and watched the first episode on that disc. This one had Jessica visiting her niece (Kristy MacNichol) who was dating one of the rodeo cowboys. Larry Wilcox, Paul LeMat, and Terry Kiser were others in the guest cast.
-
There are two more episodes on that disc, and then I have the 1938 A CHRISTMAS CAROL set out to watch. It's only 69 minutes, so should be able to squeeze in something else tonight, too.
-
I have some things I need to attend to before settling in for the evening's entertainment.
WBBL.
-
I'm so happy to see the NW Hainsies on the board.
Now to catch up!
-
I just stopped by the library to let everyone know that I am alive and well. The power is back on for me (but not a lot of people), but I have no phone or internet service. The kids and I survived the storm unscathed. I did see Jed and Ann briefly yesterday, and they, too, made it through. I hope to be back on line in a few days.
Hugs to all,
TCB

When was the last time someone came to your home under professional circumstances, stayed 30 minutes and solved an appliance problem -- including recommending against doing anything unnecessary -- and then charged you only $25?

Hello DR Ann (and Jed). Life is not a train. It is "catching up".
Beware of many layered cakes.

I enjoyed watching The Beales of Grey Gardens today. It really gives a much different perspective of Little Edie. She actually leaves Grey Gardens several times. The relationship between the two Edies seemed warmer to me. Amazing what editing can do.
I would recommed it to anyone who has seen the film Grey Gardens and would recommend both to anyone who has seen the musical but not the movies.
-
Glad to hear everyone in the NW survived the storm.
I haven't really gotten anything on my to do list done today. Maybe I'll send New Year's cards this year... My neighbor girls stopped by with oatmeal raisin cookie dough (my fav cookies) that I ordered from a school fundraiser. The youngest...I'm guessing about 3 years old raved about how she loves my Christmas lights (they are rather pathetic, actually). I really put them up for the girls to see from their windows, so I'm glad they like them. better go turn them on

BTW, my feather boa is hot pink. I got it to go with my halloween costume a few years ago when we celebrated Halloween in New Orleans.

Back for but a moment from a drama-laden end of afternoon. The show went very well, but the audience, with some blatant exceptions, wasn't as much fun as last night's. You'd think with forty high school students it would have been more raucous, but I think they were told to be polite. We had no tech flubs in the first act at all, which was great. Because the plan changed and we were only going to be taping one show, I knew I had a very short window at the end to get any pickups, because we also had a Q&A to do.
Well, then came act two and Alet's song. She completely went up on the second half, repeated her lyrics from the first half which, unfortunately, don't go with the music of the second half, and she couldn't get back on - thus the band was playing different music than was being sung, and none of the moves worked because of it. Then the fellow playing Rod flubbed a line. Then there was a flubbed light cue. Then there was a missing prop and a missing actor at the very end. So, the pressure was on me to get these things AND do the Q&A. Well, even though I'd sent word back at intermission for ALL actors to stay in costume and mics, the word didn't get to Alet and Kevin, who both changed. When I saw that, I freaked out, told them they both had to get back in mic and costume and THEY both freaked out because of the lack of communication. While they angrily went to change, I began the Q&A, which lasted about fifteen minutes. The problem also was that I only had the band for thirty minutes.
The Q&A folks left, and then Alet came out, very emotional (over-emotional) and being very cold and testy. I apologized for the lack of communication, but said again that we weren't taping two shows and I had to get the end of the number. She was still testy, and I just said to do it, which she did. Then she and Kevin left and I got the other little things, none of which involved the band.
It's a shame we didn't tape last night's show, but today's had good energy and I think it will be fine when it's cut together. I have no idea what mood Alet will be in this evening, and frankly, if she's going to go to this place, then she can go to it - if she wants to think of me as a bad guy, oh, well - I've treated her with more love and warmth than anyone in this cast, and I've also been more tolerant with her with her many absences for work and children. Who needs it? I still adore her, and hopefully she'll be a professional and do a great job tonight.
-
My guess is the latter, MR BK.
-
Good vibes for the final performance of the World Premiere Run of BRAIN FROM PLANET X.....
It has been my experience that people (theatre people in particular) get the most upset and mad and temperamental, when they realize that THEY are wrong.

DR CILLA LIZ - I am intrigued by the movie you describe...I didn't even know it existed. Is it produced by the original documentary team?

Here is the computer I bought - it was on sale. I now hear the roar of an engine when my computer starts up.

I think I may watch the UGLY BETTY rerun tonight on ABC.

DR MBarnum, thank you for the tasteful Christmas card!
-
That card must have come from Jose.

I just finished watching, from my Rock Hudson DVD set, THE LAST SUNSET and I have a new appreciation for Miss Carol Lynley...she was fantastic in this movie! I have of course seen her in many other films but she never caught my attention like she did in this one. I don't think this film was Rock's best performance however, but Kirk Douglas and Dorothy Malone were quite good.
-
Wasn't Rad Fulton also in that movie?

Well I for one am proud to accept Time's Person of the Year honor:

Well, it was on the list until the unexpected 4 figure repair of BeeGee. Luckily he is already region free. ;D

Gosh! It must have been really cold out! 8)

My mother and I watched "Finding Nemo" tonight. She'd never seen it. She thought "it was a cute show".

I've honestly been nowhere today, but I feel this viral thing coming on and it's more pronounced than any previous false alarms.
I'm gonna dose with some Airborne in a few minutes.

DR CILLA LIZ - I am intrigued by the movie you describe...I didn't even know it existed. Is it produced by the original documentary team?
From Amazon Product Description
The 1975 cinema vérité classic Grey Gardens, which captured in remarkable close-up the lives of the eccentric recluses and cousins to Jackie Onassis, Big and Little Edie Beale, in their decrepit East Hampton mansion, has spawned everything from a midnight-movie cult following to a Broadway musical remake an upcoming Hollywood adaptation. Now, Albert and David Maysles have revisited their landmark documentary with a sequel of sorts, culled from hours of never-before-seen footage recently found in the filmmakers’ vaults.

Another personal best, all-time high (or, passing another "century" mark).

The Beales of Grey Gardens was just released directly to DVD in the past couple weeks. I got it from Netflix.
-
Sayo-ro-nara, everyone!
Till Tomorrow....
-
Congrats Ron
-
There are Sharon McNight's nuts and there are FJL's puns that some of us are waiting for tonight, in vain!
-
I suspect the person Alet was really mad with was herself for messing up and probably had little to do with the miscommunication about changing and mics. It's VERY hard for a performer to just forget a bad screw-up and push ahead, especially if you're a perfectionist which I suspect she is.
I remember I had a terrible night one night at LA CAGE. Kept dropping stupid pieces of the monologues in the nightclub (thankfully, it didn't affect the other performers, and I hope the audience didn't notice how I was DYING inside.) Anyway, afterward, I was in a black, black mood and snapped at people I later begged forgiveness of.
-
I decided to finish the MURDER SHE WROTE boxed set tonight.
The first episode dealt with a play adapted from one of Jessica's books, and one of the critics who pans the play ends up dead. A good mystery with some grand actors: Lloyd Bochner, Carol Cook, Dean Stockwell, Eugene Roche.
-
The next was the season ending episode featuring Shirley Jones as a senatorial candidate battling against Robert Fuller for the party nomination. Also guesting were Eddie Albert and George Grizzard.
-
A favorite Sharon McNight story:
We were at dinner at our friend Ellen's along with Sharon, as well as Toby (Dylan wasn't born yet) and Ellen's dog. Someone spotted a puddle of pee, and we were trying to figure out which canine had done it. Sharon suddenly exclaimed, "I think i have the answer. Toby's wee-wee is wet!"
-
The only bonus feature in the set was an episode from Season 5 (to be released in January). In this one, the US World Cup Ski Team is snowed into a ski resort when murder begins to take the lives of some of the team members. Emma Samms and Barry Newman were among the guests.
-
Oh, years ago, in Dames at Sea, in Good Times Are here To Stay, I just happened to start a verse too early!
My, a co-star was so mad at me!! BUT, to this day, I'm adamant I WAS right and THEY were late!
I just don't know how I did it! Really!
I sure did not notice anything... Only that one person next to me grabbed my arm because I also was moving too early but i did not know what was going on!
She (the co-star!) got over it! LOL!
But boy, the looks she kept giving me during the show and backstage!
-
I concluded the evening with the 1938 A CHRISTMAS CAROL. I hadn't seen this in decades, and I've had the boxed set of Christmas-themed movies for a year or so without watching this one.
I was very pleased that the black and white image was so well preserved with only a stray slight scratch or two to mar things. And the film is only 69 minutes so it moves at a very steady pace and was much more enjoyable than I remembered.
-
I guess tomorrow I'll get to PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST. It's LONG, so it will take a good part of the afternoon to watch it.

Good evening DRs and H/Ks -- It is just coming up to the end of act I of "The Brain" on the west coast right now. I REALLY wish I could have gone back and seen a last performance, but I certainly hope that the videotaping works out well.
I also hope that our Grande Mensch, dear BK, has a nice day tomorrow, and can catch his breath for a few hours.
It's time for me to toddle off now, and also get some rest. But I just noticed that toward the end of yesterday, I became a God here in the hallowed halls of HHW. I just don't know what to do with myself!
Goodnight all.....goodnight MB and sleep well.....goodnight elmoore, you pixie.....goodnight Laura, and I'm sure your boa was lovely.
Goodnight Lucy!

DR MBarnum, "The Last Sunset" has a reputation as one of the oddest westerns ever made.
Did nothing seem amiss to you?
It didn't seem much different than any other westerns of the era, although one aspect of the film could be considered very controversial...and maybe just a bit on the yuckky side...but so as not to give away any spoilers, I won't mention it.
-
I picked up a budget DVD of an old 1950s religious anthology show which I had never heard of...A WAY OF LIFE...it had four episodes just jam packed with B movie actors..Richard Denning, Donald Woods, Hilary Brooke, Phyllis Coates, Kent Smith, Gregg Palmer, Charles McGraw, Richard Jaeckel, Alex Nicol...and 3 of my interviewees popped up in 3 different episodes...Anne Kimbell, Diane Jergens, and Dorothy Green!
On top of that most of the 4 stories were pretty interesting and really expressed the values of love, friendship, forgiveness, and not hurting others....with a heeping dallop of infidelity and gun fighting.
For $7 a pretty entertaining 2 hours.
