Well, you've read the notes, the notes moved inexorably from beginning to end, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently trying to figure out what inexorably means.
-
And the word of the day is: BRICOLAGE!
-
I'm tired, and yet I'm not tired.
-
I get a little nervous when things are suddenly slow, website-wise. It's taking a little too long between postings.
-
Oh, there, now it's better.
-
Where are our late-night denizens?
-
I see two people who are just sitting there like so much fish.
-
I wonder if we could have a whole page of ME?
-
Probably not.
-
Well, we've got 10 me's anyway.
-
Topic of the Day: nothing. I don't think I've ever (seriously) made a New Year's Resolution. ::)
-
Has there ever been a whole page of just one person's postings?
-
I'm beginning to fear there will be another server outage for whatever work they're doing - just veering from being okay to slow as molasses.
-
Well, here's hoping we'll be fine.
-
Well, that just too five minutes to post.
-
But that one posted in two seconds.
-
Well, here's hoping we'll be fine.
There's always hope!
;)
-
Well, I shall now toddle off to the bedroom environment and I'm praying that when I log on in the morning that we won't have had any problems.
-
I just refreshed the page a couple of minutes ago and it practically froze and I had to close my browser, but when I modified my last post...it took maybe five seconds, at the most.
-
It seems to be fine right now.
-
Is it just me or is the HHW clock off again? According to www.time.gov, it's approximately 01:30:30am Pacific Time at the time I posted this, but the posted time that's shown is 02:33:15am.
-
Anyway, I'm off to bed. Good night, BK. :)
-
I'm not and really have never been into the resolution "thing".
You say you want a resolution
Then Count me Out.
I resolve. Not.
-
Good morning, fellow Dear Readers.
I made the resolution to write letters monthly to all the family and to send birthday cards to each of them. I did very well. But the response I got was that they said they felt bad every time they got a letter or card, because they never sent any letters or cards. Except for my MIL. She sent lots of letters back.
An unexpected thing was that I never heard back from my elderly aunt, but she listed me in her will because she heard regularly from me.
-
DR Tomovoz, how are the fires today?
-
I have a very busy day planned. A friend of mine and I are driving to exciting Blythe, California, to birdwatch.
-
I am off to cause bedlam, mischief and mayhem among errant and truant books, and other things I get into...
I even polished my halo to guide my way!
-
Good morning, all! The East Coast morning contingent seems to be E&T today. I slept late, and I am the first.
I haven't organized my day yet; my first priority is a bank deposit, and my second is a trip to the post office to pick up a package that couldn't be delivered since there was no one to sign for it.
After that, I've got a few telephonic calls as well as some Toyland writing to reorganize.
The Macbeths called while I was out yesterday. I thought before I called them back I would see in the psot today delivers a Christmas card or package from them. If not, I'll hold off on the call because I want to say nothing to initiate another family contretemps.
TOD: I resolved at 39 to not be fat at 40. I failed. New Year's resolutions? Fuckem.
-
Good morning DR Elmore!
DR Jose, you have been much missed, and talked about!
-
I don't think I've ever seriously kept any resolutions I've made.
-
But I still make them, and this year will be no exception.
-
Good Morning!
Greetings from Richmond! I did wake up around 6:30, and had thought about putting my feet on the floor and beginning to head back up to 95, but... And now I'm thinking of making a semi-quick stop in Carytown for a spot of post-Christmas shopping/madness. There's one store that carries one particular item, so... It probably won't be on sale, but know they carry it. We shall see.
Otherwise, I believe - as I've been suspecting the past couple of days - that my wisdom teeth may be coming in. Time for the Advil. :-\
-
Hey, I just realized my resolution of kicking this to page 2.
-
I believe - as I've been suspecting the past couple of days - that my wisdom teeth may be coming in. Time for the Advil. :-\
Maybe the good folks at the World of Wisdom can help you!
-
As for New Year's Resolutions...
I've routinely made a resolution to lose some weight year to year. Some years I've kept it, some years I haven't. The past two years, I've maintained. Whew!
-
Hmm... The local news is showing some footage of some of the post-Christmas shopping madness from area malls and stores... And it doesn't look that mad. Yet.
-
OK... Time for some breakfast.
Laters...

It is snowing quite heavily here!
It has only snowed once or twice so far this whole season. And Christmas did not have even one drop of snow on the ground.
But we are making up for that today.
And of course that has to happen on Boxing Day (which is really huge here).
But the stores do not open till 1pm!
-
Re: yesterday's question of favorite gift this year.
I think my favorite is either a brown coat or a red nine west necklace (both of which i picked out).
The jacket is brown (sort of velvety). It is not a winter winter jacket. But can be worn at temps above zero C (32F). It has gold and pink stitching and i had seen it and loved it before. But it was $168 so i had never even tried it on.
Well last week it was reduced to $80. And then there was an extra 35% off. And on top of that an extra $10 off. So i think it ended up being $45.
And they only had one coat and it was in my size and it fit perfectly. So i figured that must be fate.
As for the necklace it had only been something i had seen and loved at full price. And last week it was something less than $15. It was discounted to $30 and was half price. And i got a scratch coupon on top of that!
-
Happy day after Christmas!
Last night's proceedings turned out to be rather enjoyable. Amazing what one year can do to three kids, in particular, two of whom entered college this past fall and the other joined the Coast Guard. QUITE the difference in their personalities and maturity level.
-
All my gifts are my favorites...except I was really looking forward to the latest batch of "state quarters" (the ones that are in "color"). They will continue, apparently, until 2009 when my collection will be complete.
-
My resolution: To live another year with a nod toward health and fitness and with a strong aversion to unpleasantness of any sort.
-
I'll be packing today to ensure I can get everything home with me tomorrow.
My suitcase weighed 48.5 pounds when I departed San Francisco on the 13th. Somehow, even though I took quite a bit out of it that won't be returning with me, I think it may weigh a bit more than that on the return.
As 50 lbs is the max, I may consider mailing something to myself. I'll know more this afternoon.
-
DR JoseSPiano: I know exactly how you feel about the dish washing.
I, too, once severely gashed my hand when a dish broke as I was washing it.
The trick -- for furture reference -- is to handle each item firmly, but gently. Don't take out your frustrations on the dish as you watch it.
I realized I had been holding the bowl that broke with a great deal of tension...and as the bowl was curved, it simply couldn't resist the pressure.
Easy does it...and count yourself fortunate that you didn't cut a tendon or nerve.

Well... I think it was more a case that I was washing a cheap ceramic coffee mug. But still... I have been ever so careful ever since then while hand-washing dishes.
And, yes, I do count myself very fortunate that I did not hit a nerve or tendon. Even the doctor was sort of amazed since the cut was kind of jagged and relatively deep. Thankfully(?), whatever part of the mug handle that ended up cutting me, gave a rather clean, fast cut - even if it was a little jagged. It took me a few seconds to realize that I had been cut, since I really didn't feel much of anything when it happened. But enough of that...
It happened about eight weeks ago, and I was able to play piano even when I had the gauze dressing on for two days. In fact, some of the cast members commented that I still sounded the same - consistent - while I was playing the tech rehearsals.
-
Steve just checked the traffic cams for me along I-95, and there don't seem to be any traffic back-up at the mall exits. Yet.
Hmm... To shop or not to shop. ???
-
...And Thanks for all the "Welcome Backs". It's very nice to know that I was missed - and discussed. I've missed all of you too.
-
Well... Just in case there is some traffic on 95 when I head back north... And just in case I happen to make a shopping stop along the way... *As long as I'm back at the theatre for tonight's show at 7:30...

Good morning!
Sort of a gray morning, but it's not bitterly cold (low 50s for highs today), and as long as the rain stays away, I can live with the overcast skies.

PAYBACK TIME - EXPECIALLY FOR JMK
A guy walked into a pet store looking for a Christmas gift for his wife. The storekeeper said he knew exactly what would please her and took a little bird out of its cage. "This is Chet," he said, "and Chet can sing Christmas carols and songs."
Seeing the look of disbelief on the customer's face, he proceeded to demonstrate. "He needs warming up," he said. "Lend me your cigarette lighter." The storekeeper lifted Chet's left wing and waved the flame lightly under it. Immediately, Chet sang Oh Come, All Ye Faithful.
"That's fantastic," said the customer.
"And listen to this," said the storekeeper, warming Chet's other wing. Chet sang O Little Town of Bethlehem.
"Wrap him up," said the customer, "I'll take him!"
When he got home he greeted his wife: "Honey, I can't wait until Christmas to show you what I got you. This is fantastic." He unwrapped Chet's cage and showed the bird to his wife. "Now, watch and listen."
He raised Chet's left wing and held him over a Christmas candle that was burning on the mantlepiece. Chet immediately began to sing Silent Night. The wife was delighted. As Chet's right wing was warmed over the flame, he sang Joy To The World.
"Let me try it," said the wife, seizing the bird. In her eagerness, she held Chet a little too close to the candle flame. Chet began to sing passionately:
"Chet's nuts roasting on an open fire..."

The plans for today right now are that best friend John and I are going to see CASINO ROYALE this afternoon. If he can't make it, I'll go alone. The movie finally was transferred to the theater very close to my house, so it's a quick trip there and back for me.
But he's a big Bond fan, and it will be fun discussing the relative merits of the film in comparison to others in the series.
-
I see happily that the CW network is showing VERONICA MARS tonight after a long layoff. I particuarly wanted to watch these reruns to see how clues as to the identity of the rapist were woven into the plots for the early episodes this season.
-
Good morning all! Jose, it's fabulous to see you are here again. You were definitely missed. Glad the thumb is healing
-
DR Edi, if you'll send me your mailing address, I'll get your DVD-R of LIFE AFTER TOMORROW to you. Thanks.
-
We had a most enjoyable Christmas Day with Prime Rib instead of just a beef roast. Tasty indeed. We also watched Elf. It was fun to see it again. We played a little Taboo and met my niece's boyfriend. It is very strange to see the kids who used to play in the basement in love, married and expecting babies. I don't feel old, it's just strange
-
I join the chorus of "welcome back"'s to DR Jose. The story of your accident was pretty grisly knowing how your hands are your livelihood, so I'm glad things weren't any more serious than they were.
-
I just finished printing my photos for my mother, so now we're off to a friend's house for coffee and doughnuts. It's supposed to be 45 degrees here today. That's great
-
The sun has popped out and there s some clearing of those clouds. That's a surprise!
-
My sister was supposed to be here today, but they all have recently had the stomach flu, so they are waiting another day in hopes of not bringing the bug with them. I'll be home when they arrive so they are stopping to see my and my house on their way back home on Friday, that should be nice
-

I resolve. Not.
Are you re-writing material for "1776"?

I am expecting some Blu-ray discs this afternoon in the mail. If they don't come, however, I will watch BEST FOOT FORWARD. I'm hoping it looks at least as good as the DVD-R I burned from a TCM broadcast. It looked very colorful. Warners should have been able to do a fine job with this movie.

Gotta go, we have doughnuts to buy and coffee to drink.

Tuesday morning greetings!
....Hmm... To shop or not to shop. ???
You know you want to, DR Jose - go for it! And, may I add my "welcome back."
I've already been shopping this morning, but from the comfort of my own home in my robe and bunny slippers. My mom gave each of us an L. L. Bean gift card and I just spent mine online. From the printed catalogs, I'd picked out several choices and when I got online one of them was drastically reduced in price. So, Mom bought me the other item and I threw in the sale item for myself.

Don't forget: DR MBarnum owes you bigtime for the return!

Morning all!
A Jose sighting! How wonderful! You have been missed! So sorry to hear about the accident. Healing vibes your way!
-
As for resolutions, I might make them but if I keep them, fine. If I don't , I don't stress over it. One can only do what one can.
If I was going to make one for the next year, it would be the usual "lose some weight one".
You guys have no idea as to how much weight I've gained since you last saw me. I know the reason is that I sit to much. When Bear and Brandi were young, I used to go on long walks. I know Sheena wouldn't mind walking but Bear is way to old for it.
The last time I took him, I was afraid we wouldn't make it home. He would lay down every time we crossed a street and was having a harder time getting up each time. I knew he couldn't go any more. That's one of the reasons I started to take them to the dog park.
I keep a sharp eye on him and when he gets tired, we leave.
I really do need to get a treadmill for myself. The problem being--where would I put it? I have no room in the house for it and it can't sit outside if it is an electric one. I think the roof is the only flat spot with noting on it. The roof----hummm----- ;D ;)
-
I like to make resolutions each new year. Some I keep and some I don't, but I do try and it is nice to have a goal of some sort.

My last day off and it's still overcast with rain. The Weather Bug says it will be sunny this afternoon. I hope so.
It didn't get as cold as they said it would last night. We're at 57 degrees right now.
-
I only real resolution I can recall being serious about keeping happened when the first local production of A CHORUS LINE was announced. I had gotten about 30 pounds overweight in the 6 1/2 year sabbatical I had taken from doing theater, and I resolved to lose that excess weight to be able to do the arduous dance auditions I knew were upcoming. And I did lose the weight, and I got in the show, so there was a great feeling of accomplishment about that.
-
I guess I'll head down now and see about some household things that need tending to.
WBBL.
-
I have some things I need to get done as well.
Laters all!
-
DR JENNIFER - great story about your shopping bargains. Isn't it wonderful when things work out that way.
DR JOSE should be encouraged by your shopping luck.

Lots of MR BK posting last night!
Not going anywhere today or doing anything. Stuff to do tomorrow, but today it's tv!

TOD:
On New Year's Eve, I always just think about where I am and where I was last year, and count the BETTER places or things I have. If I have some, I pronounce my year a success.
I think 2006 will be the same!
-
JRand - That's a lovely thought. I think I'll do that this year. I can already think of some of those (some even having to do with HHW!) Thanks!
-
Yes, JRAnd56, that is a wonderful idea, looking back at your year of successes and good things that happened!
-
My aunt and uncle are coming over for lunch in a few minutes. More turkey, dressing, asparagus souffle, etc., etc.,
I've packed my bag and weighed it, and I am JUST at 50 lbs.
Since I "have" to go back, I'm rather looking forward to my return to Oakland. Yet, I'll have to admit I'd love to buy a house, locally, and live in this area.
-
I'm planning on seeing "DreamGirls" this weekend with a friend in Oakland. Friday night or Saturday afternoon, probably.
-
Its about time, I think, for Bk to be astir and about in his domicile.
-
Jose's tale of the ER reminded me of this:
WIKIPEDIA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelve_days_of_Christmas)
In the 11th episode of the first season of the TV show Scrubs, a parody relates the reasons why doctors try to avoid being on-call on Christmas eve:
12 beaten children
11 drive-by shootings
10 frozen homeless
9 amputations
8 burn victims
7 strangled shoppers
6 random knifings
5 suicides
4 beaten wives
3 ODs
2 shattered skulls
and a drunk who drove into a tree

I've been getting the proof coin sets. It's pretty cool. Except that the coins from the first couple of years have started to tarnish! :o They're supposedly sealed in plastic display containers and the coins are turning colors! What's up with that??
-
Der B and I have much better resolution now that we have HDTV.
-
Casey and the strawberry blonde did a BRICOLAGE waltz not very long ago.
The only way they could improve upon their first attempt would be to make it BRICOLARGER, and the dance floor is only so big to begin with.
-
I'm up, I'm up. Slept well and had my favorite dream - where I suddenly find myself back in the LA of old. The "old" veers wildly from moment to moment. This particular time I was with people (can't remember who) and driving. First we were on Melrose and there was a movie theater there called The Melrose (I think there WAS a movie theater called the Melrose near LACC, but this wasn't that), and I thought, wow, there's not even a trace of that building anymore. Then we turned down a side street that wasn't even a street yet and Beverly Blvd. which should have been the next major street, wasn't even there.
Then it was the usual trying to visit the old house and maybe even see the young me. It never happens for various reasons. This time around I had the brilliant idea to go eat at my father's restaurant but that never happened either.
-
And then I woke up and my pillow was gone! Ba-dum-bump.
-
Add another "Welcome Back, DR Jose" to the growing list!
-
The sun apparently is in hiding this morning.
-
And one for the pillow.
-
Ah, page four.
-
I forgot I'm supposed to go to a boxing day party at Mr. Nick Redman's, but I may be partied out right now.
-
I've been a little E&T myself lately. What with my work schedule, I've found myself getting unexpectedly tired. And cranky. And blue-ish.
What had struck was another bout with depression. It happens.
So I pulled back, upped my meds a bit (my doc approves), and concentrated on what needed to get done.
I've survived Christmas at work.
I've survived Christmas Day with the family.
I feel better now.
And now I need to catch up on all the happenings here.
-
The sun apparently is in hiding this morning.
No, the sun in here in Rehoboth Beach.
-
Looks like I'll have to go into the office for a while today after all. :(
-
Go into the office, and suddenly start dancing - that will be festive and confusing.
-
I really must try and jog, but I do hate it when it's chilly - it looks chilly.
-
When I was in Los Angeles I noticed that the native's idea of chilly varied considerably from my idea of chilly.
-
Oh, in the scheme of things it's not that chilly. In MY scheme of things it is.
-
I may hold jogging until a little later.
-
Then again, I may not.
-
The clouds here look heavy with snow...which has been predicted for the day.
-
Back from the jog - difficult once again, and chilly to boot. But, it's done and out of the way and I shall now go ship some packages.
-
Good morning dear Esteemed, partayed, and pooped-out BK --
Your pasta shindig sounded swell and yummy, and it would have been fun to be there! And you've really hit the party circuit these past few days. What next for you.... the White Party?....Palm Springs?......Key West?......Studio 54? ......
I had a quiet get together on Christmas eve, and then visited with Kerry and family yesterday late afternoon, and enjoyed some very tasty baked Ziti with a good meat sauce. Then had a quiet evening later on, and enjoyed a good sleep.
-
Christmas music has been a little hard for me to listen to this year, but 2 real bright spots were listening to some of dear Larry Moore's arrangements that he sent me on DVD, and then also enjoying some of the wonderful things off of "A Wonderful Guy."
My copy of "A.W.G." doesn't have a tray card or cover booklet, so I can't look up composers, or show origins, or arrangers, or anything like that. Some of the guitar work sounds like Grant G. to me, but I'm not sure. Overall, it is sure a beautiful orchestra sound on the CD.......and Guy can bring tears to me on several tracks.
-
....and I send a very big "post Christmas" hug to dear Mike B. up in the chilly northwest!!
............ HUGS !! .......................
-
MusicGuy - It may interest you to know (if you didn't know already) that Studio 54 is no longer the exclusive place it once was. It's now a legit theater run by the Roundabout Theatre Company, all you need to get in is the $40 for one of the cheap seats; no getting past bouncers, no dress codes. They still call it Studio 54, though.
-
Good day, to one and all.
I decided not to go to work today; and, so far, I haven't even done any work on the home front. It is gray and wet out, and my beautiful view of the water is slightly diminished. Still, there is always something warm and toasty about signing in to HHW.
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]HAPPY BOXING DAY TO ALL BUT TOMOVOZ![/move]

BK--My mother was quite thrilled to have 2 Guy Haines CD's among her Christmas gifts. I also gave her the new Tony Bennett and Il Divo? CD's. She played Guy's CD's even before her beloved Tony Bennett!

Today I've been playing with some of my Christmas toys - new headphones for my iPod and a thingie that allows me to play and charge my iPod in the car. Tomorrow DH Richard will take my computer to the Apple store in Cincinnati to have installed the 512MB of memory that he gave me for Christmas. My mother-in-law didn't think that was very romantic.

In the last few weeks, we have seen the return of so many E&T Hainses and Kimlets.... Music Guy, Dan the Man, Jose SPiano ... to name a few; I wonder if there is any hope that Jason will return some day?

Good Afternoon!
Greetings from DC.
-
As for my shopping stop in Richmond... It was semi-successful. The store did not have exactly what I was looking for, but they had something close to what I was looking for... And it was on sale too, so...
That was that.
-
I did end up stopping at IKEA too on the way back up to DC... However, I ended up not buying a thing. I was mainly looking for some more shelving, but it appears that they have "updated" the system that I've been buying from them the past couple of years. My "old" stuff should still work with their "new" stuff, but since they changed the standard heights of the units... So, once I get all the boxed moved up to NYC over the next two weeks, then I'll see exactly what I need to buy.
And that was that.
-
DR Ginny - Installing memory on a Mac is actually quite easy, so... However, as long as you have a Genius Bar appointment, having the store do it is not a bad deal. -And you can look for more goodies while you're waiting at the Apple Store. ;)
-
My aunt and uncle are coming over for lunch in a few minutes. More turkey, dressing, asparagus souffle, etc., etc.,
I've packed my bag and weighed it, and I am JUST at 50 lbs.
Well... Just be sure to find the "sweet spot" on the scale to make sure the airline knows your bag weighs just 50 lbs. I've had bags weigh up to five to seven pounds more - or less - depending where you/they place the bag.
-
OOOHH!!!
And I started Page Five!
Everybody Dance... Dance... Dance... Dance...
-

Alas, I will not be there because I have to work tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday. We thought about going today, but decided that going to Kenwood Towne Center on Dec. 26 would not be a good idea. DH Richard has to get Rob to UC by 9:30 tomorrow morning to meet a group going to a conference in Louisville, so he'll just go to the Apple Store on the way home. The computer should be home and all revved up by the time I get home from work ;D
-
DR Jose - while you were MIA here at HHW we learned that the greater Cincinnati area will be getting IKEA, Nordstrom's, and Crate & Barrel. I'm pretty excited!
-
Here is the story of the day. I had an order and the guy wrote me an e-mail telling me that he's on vacation and if it was possible to get him the CD by January 4th I could send it to where he's vacationing but only via UPS. I wrote him back and said no problem. So, off I go to the UPS Store to send it. To North Carolina. A package that weighs less than one ounce - and is ensconced in a 6x8 CD padded envelope. Price for Groud shipping that would get the package there on January 3rd? $12.68. I hope UPS goes out of business. Are they insane? The same package via first class mail (usually arrives in three days) is $1.71 WITH delivery confirmation. Sticking it in a Priority flat rate envelope would cost around $4.60 with delivery confirmation and it would most likely arrive in two days. Sticking it a USPS overnight envelope would cost $14.00 and get it there the next morning. But not UPS - twelve bucks for ground shipping for a tiny little weighs-nothing package. Brilliant. I called UPS and railed at some poor fellow and he totally said he gets calls daily and he just doesn't understand how the company he works for can survive being totally and completely non-competitive.

It's now a legit theater run by the Roundabout Theatre Company, all you need to get in is the $40 for one of the cheap seats; no getting past bouncers, no dress codes. They still call it Studio 54, though.
Yes, I waited in line when I was a nerdy high school student in the 70s but, alas, didn't get in, now they gladly take my money and I get a ticket. No sweat.

DR Tomovoz, how are the fires today?
No news of them today Dear Reader Laura. We have had lots of rain - great news for usa ll here. We had a White Christmas! The ground was covered with hail stones on Christmas morning and there was snow in some of the "fire" areas! coldest Christmas day here since 1939. WONDERFUL

I need some advice. This afternoon my mother and I went through their old 78s and other great stuff (I have some really cool ones) anyway, we also found a number of records my dad made with his Dixieland bands in the 40s and 50s. They are self made albums. I'm not sure if they are acetate or what they are. Some are light orange and appear to have a cardboard center and some appear to me be a much harder substance. They are the same color as vinyl but much thicker
The are in ok shape, but some appear to be dirty or need some sort of restoration. My question is what can I clean them with that won't ruin them? Should I even try or leave it to someone who does that sort of thing professionally?

I know what you mean BK regarding UPS....I mailed a manila envelope that would have cost less then a dollar to mail by 1st class mail, but UPS charged me $15.00! Something about the zone it was going to or something...it was only going to southern California not the Antarctic!
-
That sounds very much like a DR Rodzinski question Cillaliz!

That sounds very much like a DR Rodzinski question Cillaliz!
I was thinking either BK or DR Rodzinski
-
I have some really cool stuff. I'll have to list it later it's packed up. I also got about 15 OCRs from the 60s and 70s
-
Well, since neither of them are here, I'll check back later. This is my last evening at my parents' house. I'll be back home tomorrow.
-
Today, I went out at lunch time and bought the 2-CD "Dreamgirls" soundtrack. I had a coupon from the Borders Rewards program, so it was only $16.99 (plus tax)! I'm happy! I'm going to listen to it right now. :)
-
Edi - Yes, Studio 54 is where the CABARET revival played for several years. But at some point since then, they've taken out the table seating and put in regular theater seating.
A good idea for most of their presentations (ASSASSINS and PACIFIC OVERTURES felt weird with the table seating), but I do think their disappointingly-received revival/rewriting of THREEPENNY OPERA with Alan Cumming, Cyndi Lauper, Nellie McKay et al would have gone over much better if it had been in the table-seating environment with drinks at tables. Not just because the critics would have been drinking :) but the looser atmosphere might have accomodated the loose style of that production.
-
Lunch is long over. My mom, aunt and I played four games of Scrabble (regular). I was lucky in my tile draws for three of the games!
And, of course, I made the best of bad draws.
-
I've no idea what dinner may be.
-
I know it's very chilly here, and cloudy and looks like rain.
And "Storm of the Century" is airing on SciFi Channel and makes it seem infinitely colder than F 48 degrees.
-
Speaking of scales and "sweet spots" (and Jose was speaking of those), did I mention that i got the limited edition "G" collection of Godiva candies as one of my Christmas presents? And that i'm not even close to finishing them close to two days later.
-
Back home from shopping. Actually I was done by 2pm (stores opened at 1pm).
It is hard to explain the phenomena of Boxing Day here.
The stores are only allowed to open at 1pm. Yet the mall parking lot is fully packed by noon.
Basically everyone goes at noon even though the stores are closed. The eating places are open. ANd select stores open early.
It's always neat to see which stores open early.
Today it seemed like Old Navy, The Children's place, various shoe stores, the pharmacy and the dollar store.
Anyhow first stop at 1pm was the calendar store (all calendars go to 50% off the day after xmas).
I got a small day by day calendar. They didn't have any left of the big calendar i wanted.
Then we went to Hallmark and Carlton (card stores) to check out their 50% reduced selections. My mom got some bags (xmas and chanukah) and some wrapping paper. And we got some calendars (also 50% off).
By 2pm we were done.
My dad and brother-in-law went to the electronics stores. They are so packed on Boxing Day it is not even funny. Glad i did not go there.
Then we brought our stash to my sister's house (she stayed home with my niece who had a fever).
Then we watched some home movies of my niece from xmas day. So cute. She is 15 months and she is so cute.

I believe you DID mention them.

And I am envious.

Allow me to put in a plug here for "Airborne", the mega-vitamin boost that has kept me from devleoping a cold this holiday season.
A cold was coming on. Yes, it was. I felt it. I sniffled. I ached a bit. I just KNEW I was going to be all kinds of sick.
But I'd just take another "Airborne" in a small glass of water. And the symptoms would go away.
I'm convinced.
-
When I arrive home tomorrow afternoon, I will have a bed fully made with fresh, clean linens (and the mattress was turned, etc.); I will have a clean refrigerator! And I will have a freezer full of yummy things to eat.
-
I was sitting here wondering whether to suggest we have spaghetti for supper...and I smell chicken frying.
Oh, MY!
-
Has anyone here tried Zicam? It's apparently very effective for minimizing cold symptoms, but it affects your taste buds by rendering them wihtout taste. (There's an opening for a joke there, but you know what i mean.)
-
Well... Just be sure to find the "sweet spot" on the scale to make sure the airline knows your bag weighs just 50 lbs. I've had bags weigh up to five to seven pounds more - or less - depending where you/they place the bag.
I've figured this out already. If I'm over, I open the bag and hand my mom an item that weighs about four pounds. That should do it. And she will mail it to me.
Hope I'm not over by much if I'm over. I could give her a pair of shoes to mail if that would be the difference.
-

I've done Zicam before, without much result. However, to be fair, my respiratory issues have cleared up significantly since the last time I tried Zicam.
-
My flight out tomorrow morning is at 7.
To get to the airport with enough time to check baggage and get through security, we must leave for the airport at 4:45 a.m. EST.
Joy!

Someone has to! So you've been using Zicam for quite a few years then FJL? (Thank you for that too!)

For me, it's Dimetapp. I start taking that as soon as I feel something coming on, and then it usually doesn't. But I have to start it at the very first symptom(s) for it to prevent any more from developing. :)

Welcome back DR Jose!
DR MBarnum, I know what you mean about BK's version of "chilly" being different from ours. Today here it was 32F with a windchill making it a bit colder and i would not even call that chilly. I'll bet it was 70F when he said he was cold! :)

PAGE SIX DANCE!! THE DREAMGIRLS DISCO DANCE!! ;)

How about a dime-a-tap dance?

Cillaliz, just wipe them with a cloth and see how that does. Should be a soft cloth that doesn't "shed". With the turntable I got that hooks directly to the computer, you can actually transfer them at the 45 speed and the computer then corrects to 78, which it sounds like they are. If they're 331/3, then you're fine. They sound like acetates.

I had a nice and light luncheon, and am watching the TCM documentary Looking For Lulu, about Louise Brooks. It's bad, like most of the TCM shows, and it makes Biography look like high art.
-
The sun never really came out today - did a little peeking, but that's it.
-
The postal office was empty - that made me very happy.

What am I, doing a monologue?

Before I set out on my afternoon adventure, I was able to watch about 45 minutes of BEST FOOT FORWARD.
The color looks simply splendid and the movie is in very good shape: sharp, almost no debris, clear mono sound.
I wish Hugh Martin had done a commentary for it. Or someone!
-
I did see CASINO ROYALE, but we had to go out of our way to do so. I'll admit, we were cutting it close getting to the theater. It was a 1:45 showing, and it was 1:38 when we got in line (yes, there was a line; there are six theaters at this multiplex). I got to the window and found out the showing was sold out.
The foolish people who booked the movie into this house assumed after a month at other theaters, it was probably played out and thus booked it into the plex's smallest theater - probably 75 seats. The next show there wasn't until 7:45.
Anyway, there was a 3:10 showing across town, so we went there. We bought tickets early to assure seats and did some window shopping. That theater was larger than the one at the other multiplex, but it was very full with only the front row empty. This theater probably had 150 seats.
As for the movie, the stunts, the action, the set pieces were on the typical grand scale (that opening chase after the credits was one of the more incredible things I've ever seen: those stunt men were fabulous).
But because they were restarting the franchise, the familiar personalities of the Bond series (other than Judi Dench) were missing. Well, Felix Leiter appeared late in the game, but as he's usually played by different actors in every film, it didn't matter.
I found the film incredibly overlong. While I admired all the action sequences, every one of them could have been trimmed. The love scenes could have been trimmed (especially late in the movie). The various rounds of the poker tournament could have been trimmed.
It really amounts to overkill once you pass the two hour mark.
Daniel Craig was rugged, incredibly athletic, and has piercing blue eyes. But in this first adventure, he didn't quite capture my heart. Pierce Brosnan did in his first Bond adventure GOLDENEYE. Perhaps it was the stoic early Bond who made many mistakes that prevented me from completely surrending to this new person in the role. Still, I'll look forward to the next one to see what kind of alterations he makes to his characterization.
-
Heading down to the confines of my own home theater. BEST FOOT FORWARD is waiting to put its best foot forward.

Thanks FJL -- yes, I did know that the whole "complexion" of Studio 54 is now nothing like the glorious and insane disco days. Whenever I happen to pass it (when I'm in NYC) it now looks kind of sad to me.
-
I shall now finish a motion picture on DVD that I began a few nights ago on the bedroom DVD player - tonight's DVD will be Brain de Palma's film of James Ellroy's The Black Dahlia.
-
Dear Esteemed BK --
When you have a second, I'd appreciate any tips that you could give me, as to how I can find (and hopefully print out) the title index, and the various artist and production credits for "A Wonderful Guy."
I tried looking at links here, and on the Kritzerland site, and I didn't have any luck.
Thank you, O wise and all-knowing Brain who has just come back from intermission.............
(one of my favorite lines from the show!!)

Damn Sony! There are a few tracks from the albums, like the history of popular song, that never made it to the CDs and I loves Ms Russell!

Well the sun is shining here in San Diego! The birds are squacking and it smells like ocean and my cousins are screaming in the backround...(Two girls 3 and 7).
Christmas weekend was lovley and filled with parties and food and even a few presents. I enjoyed reading about everyone elses holiday also.
I must now go set up mousetrap for the cuties! Goodbye!
-
It happened about eight weeks ago, and I was able to play piano even when I had the gauze dressing on for two days. In fact, some of the cast members commented that I still sounded the same - consistent - while I was playing the tech rehearsals.
I’m so relieved, you had mentioned this to me but when I read your earlier post I thought you had injured yourself again.
-
DRLaura-It was nice of your aunt to show how much she appreciated your letters and cards. :)
Jennifer-You really are a wonder at finding bargains. Your coat sounds lovely.

Damn Sony! There are a few tracks from the albums, like the history of popular song, that never made it to the CDs and I loves Ms Russell!
"a square talk on popular music or the decline and fall of the popular song" is on "Anna Russell - Again". is that the one DR Elmore?

Sherlock had multiple new experiences this holiday. We stayed in the beautiful 5th Avenue Suites where staff and patrons gave him loads of attention. He had his first elevator ride which he wasn’t too keen about but tolerated it. He did much better on the street car. He really was great during the trip, went shopping with us, including Williams-Sonoma, & was an angel at Bryan’s place.
City living is tough for dogs, not much grass so Sherlock often decided the street was the appropriate place to stop. Thank goodness he only did that when there wasn’t much traffic.
This morning he had a great time playing with those total sweeties, BeeGee and Blanch :D
-
Trying to upload some doggie pics:
-
Zach asked if Sherlock was gay. Keith volunteered that he was. :)
-
Keith and Jane were somewhat more reticent to discuss Sherlock's foot fetish:

Jane insisted that she had not had any eggnog (yet) this morning, but her fly said otherwise. :)
MY EYES!! MY EYES!! 8)

You'll notice a certain family resemblance between Sherlock and Zach. :)
-
Tell Betsy she might have mentioned my zipper BEFORE taking the photo, not after. ;D
-
We have no secrets here at HHW, or at least not for very long. ;)
-
Here's BeeGee moping in the kitchen that not only does he have to contend with "that stupid little black dog" (Blanche), now there's "the exotic multi-colored dog," too.
-
Tell Betsy she might have mentioned my zipper BEFORE taking the photo, not after. ;D
What fun would that have been? ;D
-
Watching a reprehensibly bad motion picture on DVD.
-
She might have well shouted the news across the room instead of waiting to quietly whisper it to me, it would have been less embarrassing than to have the photo posted. ::)
Of course Keith also had a good laugh at my expense. ;D
-
BeeGee was very, very good with Sherlock. I wish they could play together more often.
-
Betsy is entirely guiltless in the posting. She just walked in and shrieked in horror at my bad manners. I'll delete it.
-
Of course now you need to go and delete all the responses, LOL.
-
LOL-sure you will ;D
-
:oYou really did! We can leave the rest of the posts ;D
-
JMK, if you didn't delete the photo all together, email it and Keith can fix it with Microsoft digital Image, or whatever it's called.

Good Evening!
Well... We're sold out for most of this week...
:)
-
We are not deleting any open-zipper postings. They are too few and far between, if you ask me. It's not like we could see her UNDERPANTS or anything.
-
I guess I have to go back to this insufferably bad motion picture, about which I'll have puhlenty to say.
-
Well... The trumpet player got sick yesterday, Christmas Day, with a touch of the flu... So did the french horn player... As did the first violinist/concertmaster... And the percussionist... Thankfully, they were all healthy enough to come in for tonight's show - and they all sounded "healthy" to me. -And, no, they do not all live together. ;)
I'm hoping another day of rest will help them all recuperate.
-And the kicker to this 'sick wave' - the conductor's wife came down with something this afternoon... Hmm... Could be an interesting final week of the run.
*However, all of the actors are in good health. Whew! <knock wood>
-
I guess I have to go back to this insufferably bad motion picture, about which I'll have puhlenty to say.
I have a feeling I know which "insufferably bad motion picture" you're talking about, BK. Unfortunately, it only goes downhill from the opening credits. :-\
*Should I have posted a Spoiler Alert there? ;)
-
As for Airborne - I like it. I just wish it hadn't gotten so relatively expensive over since it's popularity started to rise. However, I usually stick to doses of Emergen-C, twice a day, during cold and flu season.
As for Zicam - That whole 'tasteless' syndrome is sort of an anomaly. However, there are still those documented cases where people have lost their sense of smell from consistent, continuous use of the nasal swabs. But since smell and taste are very much intertwined... Hmm.. But I've used Zicam too, and it's always worked for me. I like the Allergy formula.
-
I missed DR Jane's Zipper?!?!?!?
;D
-
And now I'm watching the Kennedy Center Honors... Too bad I missed the first half. And too bad that CBS honored Jessica Simpson's request to pull her flubbed performance of "9 to 5". ;)
-
:oYou really did! We can leave the rest of the posts ;D
Of course...some of us may have saved it before it was deleted. ::)
;)
-
Anyway, it's time for me to leave work and go to my sister's. She needs me to move a CD shelf for my niece. So, I'll move the shelf. :P
-
I began the evening finishing BEST FOOT FORWARD. I still had about 2/3 of it to go. There were some speckles later on in the film, and there were a couple of places where there were some slight but definite color registration problems.
I did appreciate that Warners added an overture and exit music on the DVD, something that was never done with the showings on TCM or on the VHS tape I had.
-
Next, I put on the first episode from the season six CSI box. This is the one where Warrick admitted that he had just gotten married, much to Catherine's disappointment. The two cases were just OK: a woman almost undressed found dead in an alley and two people turned to mush in the trunk of a car.
-
I did tune in the VERONICA MARS rerun, and sad to say the CW had skipped some episodes to get to this one, one of the best ones of the season where Veronica was accused of plagerizing her term paper. Major clues offered about the campus rapist. Nice to see how the viewer was set up to be led away from the truth. Very clever indeed.
-
And since I had the cable box on, I watched the repeat of THE CLOSER concerning the death of a restaurant owner slain in the kitchen of her restaurant. Another of my favorite episodes of this past season with DOuglas Sills and John Billingsley as the primary guest stars.
-
My Blu-ray discs did not come today (nor did any packages arrive including a Christmas present slated to be taken to the party tomorrow night.) Hopefully these things will arrive tomorrow.
-
Has anyone here tried Zicam? It's apparently very effective for minimizing cold symptoms, but it affects your taste buds by rendering them wihtout taste. (There's an opening for a joke there, but you know what i mean.)
I started to come down with something so my mom got me these Cold-Eeze things that made me feel better, but made everything taste funky. That was okay when I was just eating a sandwich that tasted like dirt, but as soon as I opened up a Cherry Coke that tasted like 7Up, I knew things had gone too far. I decided I would rather be sick and drinking Cherry Coke than healthy and drinking 7Up. I do have my priorities. So that was the end of the Cold-Eeze.
And that was that.
-
What a long day this has been! I'm heading for bed now hoping for more sleep than I got last night.
Good night!
-
What a long day, but a good one!

Hi Mom!

Hi Sandra! Are you packed for tomorrow?

Not yet.

Thanks BK. Dad has a place that transferred some for him in the past. They are 78s, and I think they are acetates (I noticed a little silver metal under a small chip. We decided not to listen to them so we don't make matters worse until they are transferred to CD.

This morning I went to a wildlife refuge, and this is what I saw:

And this:

Just heard that Gerald Ford died at age 93

My DH was still under the weather today so I popped some popcorn and we settled in with "Aventurera".
Wonderfulness! "I'll never forget you. Here's my card". LOL!
Those dance numbers are something else!
Thanks again, MBarnum!
-
I couldn't log on to the site a little while ago!
I'm about to ready myself for a friend's Birthday Party at an Indian Restaurant. MBarnum would be pleased.
-
Then we watched a good documentary on Klaus Nomi. I enjoyed seeing all the rare archival footage and it was very nicely put together.
-
Finished with motion pictures on DVD for the evening.

Now I shall write the notes.

And then I shall post the notes.
