Well, you've read the notes, the notes were filled with ruminations and high hopes, and now it is time for you to post until the hopeful cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: HOGMANAY!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
Dino will be with us at our New Year's Rockin' Eve Do.
-
Cool!
-
George, incontinuation of our discussion about the Doctor
YES, i do think they may have done it. Why would the Doctor react as he did when she commented about the pregnancy.
-
Remember the Doctor is part human
-
A gal I know on another board agrees with me that they did the deed.
-
YES, i do think they may have done it. Why would the Doctor react as he did when she commented about the pregnancy.
True...very true. ;)
-
I'm listening to the symphonies of Alexander Tansman - very interesting.
-
that would have made for an interesting story....
-
I'm so happy I can sleep as late as I want tomorrow.
-
I have to have something yummilicious to eat for the final day of 2006. Actually, I'm thinking about making some tuna pasta salad, but I'm not certain. I could just make some tuna sandwiches instead. I love those, and they're not too caloric or bad for me.
-
Then again, I don't know if I want to make anything - I could go to Jerry's and bring home some turkey and onion pockets and make yummy turkey sandwiches.
-
George, the only doctor i did not like was Colin Baker. I thought he was rather boorish.
-
Then again, I'm not sure I want yummy turkey sandwiches. I could also go to any number of my favorite haunts and bring home a yummy meal.
-
Decisions, decisions...
-
Welcome four GUESTS. We're talkin' about what I should eat tomorrow. Dakota Celt and George are talkin' about something else but I have no clew as to what.
-

those are good... I like to make Tuna Melts ...
-
Turkey salad sandwiches would be good also
-
Just our ongoing debate about Doctor Who...
-
You know Matt would make a great doctor or even "the Master"
-
I think I may bring some kuchen, lefse or chex mix... I have not decided.
-
Dom Perignon?
-
Asti Spumante?
-
I'm getting tired. Perhaps I'll go finish watching Hitler's Children.
-
I think I'll let the Tansman symphony CD finish first.
-
Dom Perignon?
A couple of years ago, I bought a bottle (from Costco) for my parents' 40th anniversary. My dad was the only one in our family who liked it. I don't normally drink and everyone else likes sweeter wines.
-
George, the only doctor i did not like was Colin Baker. I thought he was rather boorish.
I'd never seen ANY episodes before the new ones with Christopher Eccleston. ::)
-
ahhh... I like wine more so than beer or something
-
Well, I think that I'll watch the new "Doctor Who" episode later in the morning. It's getting a little cold in my TV/computer room and I'm also tired, so I'm going to bed. Good night, DakotaCelt and BK. :)
-
ahhh... I have many on tape and now Peter Davison and some of Tom Baker on DVD
-
:D
Page 2 dragon dance
-
You beat me to the dance. I was going to do:
PAGE TWO DOCTOR WHO DANCE!! ;) (out of character, though ::))
-
I will not elaborate on the Matt ashford appearances on the soap collection.
-
And now, I really must be going...to sleep. Good night!
-
IT challenges my DR. Who collection. However my CD and movie collection is closing in.
-
I read somewhere that he is a big soccer fan. There is a program in Britian where they trace the genealogy of different celebrities. He is actually part Irish.
-
I think I shall toddle off to the bedroom environment - I'll leave the computer on for a few minutes, just to see if we have a late-night frenzy goin' on.
-
NN George and bk, pleasant dreams!
-
Well, that bad girl Adriana Patti is here. If she's up, she should call me to tell me what's going on, because I do not know what is going on.
-
We shall see if she gets this far in her reading.
-

Have you seen this...

Double Indemnity was fascinating, I must say I was never a fan of film noir, but now I begin to realize that was because I had never seen any good examples.
On my watching list for today I have Chinatown and Sex, Lies, and Video Tape. Possibly something else, if I have time...
Today is also a cleaning day, so my room is to be dusted and vacuumed and laundry must be done and I have newsheets on my bed, very comfy.
I am beginning my new year by putting together a clean, understandable copy of The Brain from Planet X, and preparing all necessary papers for the kids show.
My January calendar is already full of work and play! Along with working with Buce on the kids show, I will be attending shows at UCLA, The Greenway Theater, the Cinerama Dome, Hollywood Heritage, and the Egyptian. No nights wasted for me anymore, there is always something to do in LA, and I am going to go out and experience life!
Gee, Its 1:30....Im tired....More tomorrow, I cant wait to see what the party is like!
-
so apparently the weird beeping I heard was my battery dying....
-
It's officialy January 1st here in melbounre Australia.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL AND ESPECIALLY THE SUN DRIED
-
Hogmany - isn't that what happens when the pigs take over the Senate?
-
Interesting MOCKINGBIRD and VIPS stories in the notes. We need to hear those songs.
DR CP - is the William Gaunt you saw in London, the SAME William Gaunt who was in THE CHAMPIONS? I got that first season Box Set this year, and I still enjoy that series a LOT!!
-
Working today....our BookLog system is in trouble so it is mess.
The register at the front of the store doesn't work, so we have to make a list of the merchandise and then go to the office to ring it up and print out a receipt. It's a mess.
-
It's going to be a long day. A long day.
-
2007!! Will be here soon.
Sorry about your PEYTON PLACE, DRMBARNUM. Mine did the same thing in a different place! Lee Phillips became a director and MR BK worked with him, I think. He also did a suprisingly good job in THE HUNTERS.
-
It is raining very hard today.
-
for everyone
-
In the words of Margo Channing, happy New Year's, Eve!
-
I have nothing else to add.
-
Except this: No mail until Wednesday? Ye gods!
-
Have we ever goen three days in a row without mail? Not in my adult lifetime, i believe.
-
I don't mean an "adult" lifetime in THAT way. :) I just mean since I've been in the business world and reliant on the mails, i don't remember ever having three days in a row without mail service, absent a blackout or other emergency.
-
Happy New Year, Tomovoz!
-
DR FJL - if the gentleman is someone of renown, invite him for something...then it's HIS turn.
-
Question for ask Bk Day: Why do we go to extremes to mourn a life that ended peacefully at the age of 93? Isn't reaching that age something we should be celebrating?
-
And one for Mailer!
-
Tom and Jrand - Thanks for the advice on dealing with the gentleman. I'm hoping his subsequent email means all is OK as far as he's concerned. Lord knows I'm not the best at etiquette. He had also felt slighted when we had a cast luncheon (after the first of the three NYMF Last Starfighter readings) and we didn't invite him because it was cast and company of the show only, without guests, which the cast and company were all fine with. The guy's not famous, but well-connected and extremely charming and charismatic, and I sometimes assume that people who give the appearance of having it all together wouldn't be so sensitive, but apparently I'm wrong about that.
-
No one has it all together....if they do, they take it on the road. :)
-
Good morning, all! I slept very late; I had an exhausting dream involving the Petit Trianon in Versailles, Lee Radziwill, the Miami University Library, Michelangelo, several of my colleagues from the Packard Humanities Institute, and something to do with packing up and leaving school. This dream was quite complicated, and rather like a serial. I'm sure part of it has to do with my fear of the project's closing down, but I also think it's a mental reflection on how much I like working with my colleagues for PHI.
This afternoon, I meet friends from Atlanta for lunch, I may stop down at the office for some research info, and then I shall come back here and plan my evening festivities.
-
I am sure Lee Radziwill was a close friend of Michelangelo. She knew EVERYBODY!!!
-
Off to work with no register.
-
I am sure Lee Radziwill was a close friend of Michelangelo. She knew EVERYBODY!!!
And she married that ass Herb Ross!
-
Good Morning...
I hope... :-\
...Basically, I don't think I really slept at all last night. By the time I got into bed, my stomach started feeling a little off. Should I get up and take something? Should I just stay in bed and wait for it to abate? Then when the nightclub closed across the street, and the hordes of people started coming out... Ah, all that noise?!?!? And there was a round of gun shots too last night... Followed by the requisite battery of police sirens... By this time it was already about 3:30. My stomach was still feeling a little strange, but I still stayed in bed. However, I was afraid that if actually fell asleep, I might get "sick"... and I did not want that to happen... I remember looking at the clock and seeing it was 5:00... I got up for a bit, got a good drink of water - I was feeling quite dehydrated... Got back into bed... More tossing and turning... Got out of bed around 8:30... Decided I should try to get one good hour of sleep... So, I set my alarm, meditated for a bit... and then about 20 minutes later, I realized that falling back asleep was not going to happen... So, now I'm having a small bowl of cereal... I'm a bit achy... My stomach feels better, but still a little off... However, and this is the kicker, when I looked at myself in the mirror, I expected to be all baggy-eyed, and wan looking, instead, I look rather healthy. Practically rested... What the F is up with that?!?!?!?
In any case... I'm trying to figure out how to pace myself today, since I have two shows, a closing night to-do, and a New Year's Eve to-do... However, I have already decided/realized, that I will just take care of all of my packing tomorrow. It's not worth the extra effort right now. :-\
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO OUR OZNIAN, DR TOMOVOZ AND HIS DP COLIN AND HIS DDs MAGNUS AND FOSCA!!!
-
Well... Now that the cereal is starting to settle and digest, I'm actually starting to feel better. Whew!
I think some herbal tea is due next.
-
Well, I believe I will sit back and relax for a bit...
Good Morning!
-
This afternoon, I meet friends from Atlanta for lunch
I hope they're tasty!
I wonder if they know The Big Chicken? I am very close to said chicken.
-
DR Jose, I hope you continue to feel better. It would suck to feel bad on the last night. Lay low today!
-
I had "Sichuan" braised ribs in golden powder for dinner. It was yummy but I don't know if I would have it again. I'm sure it's bad for you!
-
"Stop The World" is the only show I've ever been in. It was fun, but not something I would want to do on a regular basis. I prefer hiding in my dark little editing room.
-
I was only in it because my friend was choreographing it and my roomate and I had been in his mime class. This was the early '70's, before everyone hated mimes. My friend had studied with Marceau and was very good at mime and dance.
-
It's coffee time! See you later!
-
An old parody:
You suck the air right out of the room
Mime
You turn a party into a tomb
Mime
You make the smiling people run screaming to the nearest exit door
[I forget the rest of it]
-
IT'S SNOWING! IT'S SNOWING!!!! Woo Hoo!!!! We may get 4-6 inches of snow. When I stepped out in my pjs to get my paper, my neighbor was scraping the windshield on his car. We is also very excited that it's finally snowing..
-
I have very ugly pjs but they are very warm
-
The cats are loving watching the snow fall.
-
Hope you feel better Jose.
-
FJL, I agree that we should be celebrating the life of Gerry Ford and I really get the impression that we are. I think they have to call it a National Day of Mourning because that's allowed for by statute. I don't think there's a National Day of Celebrating Life....well, not unless you get a holiday named after you.
Our local Federal Court is not closing, even though all of the rest of them around here are. God forbid we should change the schedule to show respect for the passing of a President.
-
Working today....our BookLog system is in trouble so it is mess.
The register at the front of the store doesn't work, so we have to make a list of the merchandise and then go to the office to ring it up and print out a receipt. It's a mess.
Yikes, sounds almost like what I have to do at the library when the system decides to go on vacation.
-
Happy New Year Tom!
-
Hope you feel better Jose!
-
Happy New Year Tomovoz, saw a replay of the fireworks in Sydney. Looked spectacular!
-
And the word of the day is: HOGMANAY!
Casey would waltz
With a strawberry blonde
On most every night of the year,
But tonight they celebrated HOGMANAY
And instead danced the Highland Fling!
-
Sunday morning greetings! Pouring rain here.
Our trip yesterday to the Apple Store with my computer was frustrating and, ultimately, not successful. The mall was mobbed, so DH Richard wheeled the eMac inside while I listened to the entire first act of The Magic Flute from the Met and drove around looking for a place to park. When I finally got inside, we'd been told to come back in an hour or so. Richard went to Panera to study and I went to Talbot's for their semi-annual sale. I found a great coat and scarf.
When we went to retrieve my computer, we were told that we had the wrong software and given a refund and directions to a place that "might be able to help you." For now, I've told Richard just to forget it. My computer is now working as it always has - I just get to enjoy watching the spinning beachball more than I'd like.
On the way home, Richard told me he had a sore throat.
-
Not to be confused with Hog Mornay, where the entire pig is served coated with a bechamel sauce that has been flavored with Parmesan and Gruyere cheeses. And, for a dish that large, it takes a lot of Parmesan and Gruyere. Definitely not finger food.
-
Good morning!
It's raining here but not especially cold. Looks like it's going to be a gray day all around these parts.
-
JRand, I checked the programme and Gaunt has listed the CHAMPIONS in his bio, so I assume it's the very one. I've never seen this series...what's it about? I had seen Gaunt a few years ago in a small but interesting role at the National in a play called HUMBLE BOY. I had found and read the play GATES OF GOLD on my last trip to London, because I like Frank McGuinness' writing. It's a fictionalized version about the relationship of Michael MacLiammoir and Hilton Edwards who were lovers and founded The Dublin Gate Theatre in Ireland, centering on MacLiammoir's death. When I saw it was playing, I wanted to see it. It was playing in a theatre on Whitehall (its original name I can't remember) which has been recently divided into two playing spaces, called The Trafalgar Studios. Gates of Gold was in the smaller space, so intimate you could count the nose hairs in an actor's nostrils. Truly, you could literally reach out and touch them. Lovely play; terrific performance by Gaunt.
The Lovely Wife and I will nestle in for New Year's Eve, like we usually do, and have a stack of movies to watch...AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH; PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST; and THE BLACK DAHLIA. I know the reviews for BLACK DAHLIA have not been great (including BK's); but a friend of mine wrote it and had been working on the script for seven-eight years, back when David Fincher was still involved.
We've also been catching up on our WGA Award screeners. We watched LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE last night...very funny! Also have seen THANK YOU FOR SMOKING and NOTES ON A SCANDAL.
Films I need to see in the next few weeks areTHE QUEEN; HISTORY BOYS (saw the original play); and, most of all, VENUS with Peter O'Toole.
-
In re: last night's discussions...
As proof that some things simply are not chosen, let me offer this - that viewing Rod Steiger's tail would have turned me straight!
(I saw Roger C. Carmel's tail once. Still didn't do the trick.)
Back to perusing yesteday's posts...

Remember the Doctor is part human
The Eighth Doctor was part human, because of a blood transfusion during the regeneration process as I recall. I don't know if the human element would have survived the next regeneration, though, and as that story has not been told... :-\
-
GEorge and SWW
Have you seen this...
The Sarah Jane Adventures
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0862620/ (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0862620/)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/ (http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/)
I hadn't heard a peep about it before, but it makes sense. Sarah Jane was/is a fun character, Slaydon is a good actress, and since the Torchwood spinoff is intended to be more "adult" in content, pairing Sarah Jane with a younger crew (and I'd presume K-9 as well) keeps everything in balance.
-
...This was the early '70's, before everyone hated mimes....
Hating mimes is far too easy, because everyone knows mimes never answer back.
-
Good morning dear Esteemed, resolved, rested, and rarin'-to'go BK --
I enjoyed reading about your "retreat to your darkened bedroom" to ruminate and reflect on your year and your life. I have a similar thing now, but it is in the morning, and I do it daily. It helps keep me centered, guided, and in a good place mentally and spiritually.
I slept terribly last night, with an annoying "crick" in my neck that just wouldn't relax out. But hopefully it will be better today.
-
And I want to send out a very big "virtual and collective" HUG to all of the great folks here, in the Living Room of HHW !!
H U G S TO ALL OF YOU.
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR TOMOVOZ!
In a few hours Bryan and Craig will be watching the extra special fireworks in Bucharest, extra special to celebrate Romania’s entrance into the EU tomorrow.
Unfortunately Bryan’s coat didn’t arrive with him since it was packed inside his new suitcase, along with all his other essentials, camera and his MCAP books. Using the powers of this site I’m sending him good vibes his luggage arrives, or at the least is located, very, very soon.
-
Thank you MusicGuy, and HUG back to you and to all our DR's.
Jose-I hope you feel better.
-
Time for me to head to work, to aid and assist those who still have New Years feasting and festing to prepare...
And then, a quiet night at home.
-
Question for ask Bk Day: Why do we go to extremes to mourn a life that ended peacefully at the age of 93? Isn't reaching that age something we should be celebrating?
I've said this over and over again, both here and elsewhere. Yes, we should be celebrating - 93 is not something to mourn - my goodness, someone lived THAT long, get up and dance a jig in their memory. If you go on other boards you'll see it happen - someone who's over 90 dies, and these kids who barely even know who they are say "I'm devastated" "Noooo" all that stuff and I've posted just what you did and they come after you like you were Hitler. Ridiculous.
-
As you may have gathered, I'm up. I went to bed quite late, but slept quite late, so we're even.
-
DakotaCelt-Glad you had a nice birthday dinner. :D
-
Most of the sky is very blue, while a little of the sky is blanketed in clouds. I'm groggy, but must soon joggy.
-
I'm feeling we're going to have a splendidly splendid partay here at haineshisway.com this evening.
-
I'm reminded of a joke that I think i first heard on "Welcome Back Kotter."
A telegram delivery man rings the bell to deliver his next telegram.
An old woman answers and says "Oh goody! A singing telegram..I've always wanted to get one of these."
The delivery man replies "I'm sorry ma'am but this isn't a singing telegram, it's just a regular telegram."
The woman, obviously disappointed, sighs and says "Couldn't you sing it to me anyway, I'm 91 years old and this may be my last chance to get a singing telegram?"
The delivery man says "No ma'am, it's not the kind of telegram you sing, and I don't sing very well anyway."
The woman pleads and pleads with him "Please, please sing me the telegram.."
The man finally gives in and starts-up, to the tune of "Hooray for Hollywood":
Da-da-de-dum-dum-dum..
Your sister Rose is dead,
The word I heard is that she died in bed,
I wanna tell ya she was really great,
But she was ninety-eight,
Yeah, your sister Rose is dead.
-
I played a singing telegram deliverer on an episode of Angie - it's at a wedding in Angie's house (one of the Mary's is getting married, but no one has met or seen the groom). I'm mistaken for the groom, and though I keep trying to let everyone know, no one lets me get in a word. Then they start playing the wedding march and she comes down the stairs. I look confused, and then we see each other. Ultimately I sing the telegram that the groom ain't showing up and has taken a powder.
It was one of the funniest TV shows I've ever done (I have it on Beta somewhere). I don't know that I was ever funnier on TV. And the funny thing about it is is that I almost left the reading when I went up for it. I took a look at the script and aside from the telegram and two lines, there was no dialogue. I thought "I don't do this anymore" and I called my manager and told her I was leaving. She convinced me to stay (she'd read it) and said "It's really funny - and you don't have to learn any lines." I went in, did my thing, got the part, and because of what I did on the show, they seriously contemplated bringing me back - unfortunately, the show went off the air.
It was exhilerating getting the kinds of laughs I did without having to speak one word - all with subtle eye moves and facial expressions. I must have that transfered to DVD - or maybe they'll put it on DVD - everything else has been.
-
Nobody here but us chickens. Everyone must be preparing for our annual New Year's Rockin' Eve.
-
I'm not quite ready to joggy yet. I'm still feeling groggy and foggy.
-
Let's all sing the score to Rockabye Hamlet.
-
I hadn't heard a peep about it before, but it makes sense. Sarah Jane was/is a fun character, Slaydon is a good actress, and since the Torchwood spinoff is intended to be more "adult" in content, pairing Sarah Jane with a younger crew (and I'd presume K-9 as well) keeps everything in balance.
I promised not to say anything about Torchwood until George got his copy...
I have always liked Sarah Jane. I agree with your assessment on Sarah Jane and she would make an excellent pairing for children.
-
Thanks for the hugs and good words Music Guy
((Music Guy))

AMEN!!
He lived a long life and that is what we should be celebrating. It is not like someone who has been murdered in the prime of their life.
-
Bk, I vaguely remember the show Angie.. I believe, if I remember right, it had Donna Pescow and Robert Hays in it.
-
That's the one.
-
And the late Debra Lee Scott, who I'd known since she was an understudy in Forget Me Not Lane at the Taper.
-
And Doris Roberts.
-
And Nancy Lane - the original Bebe from A Chorus Line.
-
I remember Robert Hays being on Starman and at the same time on the local independent station they broadcasted reruns of Angie.
-
There are now more clouds than blue in the sky.
-
As the cows would say: And one for Mooler.
-
Bill Parry was in ROCKABYE HAMLET.
-
And the late Debra Lee Scott, who I'd known since she was an understudy in Forget Me Not Lane at the Taper.
I liked her and she passed away far too young.
-
Doris Roberts was also on Remington Steele with Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalist.
-
Bill Parry? You mean that guy who lives with what's her name?
-
Doris has been on more TV series than anyone.
-
Okay, FJL, here is a question for your mathematical brain - divide my number of postings by how long this board has been in existence and tell me my average number of postings a day.
-
I'll never forget whats-her-name.
-
The clock is ticking FJL
-
You have one minute - don't miss out on this trip to the Bahamas.
-
My mathematical brain is not what it used to be.
-
Where'a a pencil? (a COME BLOW YOUR HORN reference)
-
That should be: Where's a pencil?
-
Can I take a wild guess?
I was bored one night at work during the school term and was reading the old posts....
-
First post, October 21, 2003 - this board's first day.
-
Thirty seconds... Don't miss out on that lovely set of Ginsu knives.
-
A bit late but I see we have made it to page 5!
-
How can FJL win when he leaves? At this rate he's not even going to win that brand new mini-disc player.
-
Can I guess please
-
I was trying to check the main page for the number of topics. it's 1225 days, right?
-
19.7 notes approximately but if you round up it is 20
-
Yes, you may guess. You can win a lovely set of alabaster ferns.
-
First post, October 21, 2003. Today is December 31, 2006
-
FJL, is she right?
-
I get 18.24. Do i win?
-
I am over 5500!
-
Come on, FJL, you can still win a set of Five Grecian Urns.
-
The Five Grecian Urns would look lovely next to the alabaster ferns.
-
So, I've made 18.24 postings a day? That is something - I'm not sure what, but it's definitely something. I especially thought my .24 posts were pithy and piquant.
-
Not bad for figuring in my head
-
WE are on page 6 of mathematical wizardry!
-
Hmmm.looks like it's only 1167 days. So dakota is closer than I was.
-
We have a tie, ladies and gentlemen, so both contestants will be back next week, when the grand prize will be a beautiful brand new trash compactor.
-
PIQUANT PI - my new mathematical dessert
-
And that's one of the tricks to get to page six.
-
hmmm I looked at my math and then bk's profile and I am fairly close
Gee I could use a trash compactor at work ;)
-
And wouldn't it be heaven if we could get to page seven.
-
Not to mention great if we could get to page eight.
-
And fine if we got to page nine.
-
The only question is when we'll get to page ten.
-
And if we get to seven, surely we'll get to eleven.
-
I bet my average is high and I have been here not quite a year...
-
Gee, I'm lucky I don't have to deal with numbers at my job.
:)
-
If we really delve we might even make twelve.
-
I say go for the gusto and wangle for menty goals for twenty
-
Don't call me a queen, but we might make thirteen.
-
Gee, I'm lucky I don't have to deal with numbers at my job.
:)
I have to bill errant and truant students!
-
It's many many many years ago, but one of my tricks did make it to Page Six (of the NY Post).
:)
-
you bad boy FJL!! ;) Just teasin'
-
I wonder if we could seriously challenge the long held standing posts record?
-
Jump in Mbarnum, the water is fine!
-
His making it to Page Six had nothing to do with me, of course.
-
The theme song to Angie is one of my favorite songs. My recollection is that it was quite a funny show and one of my favorites at the time.
-
And it was years after we stopped dating.
-
I also loved Angie and its theme song.
-
I'm not sure if I feel like going out tonight. I am supposed to go to a wingding up in West Linn which is a 45 minute drive from Salem.
I am thinking that sitting at home on my buns and watching movies is a much nicer idea.
-
I always thought "Love it binds" could be used for fiber commercials.
-
Glenn Slater kidded me mercilessly for my thread on that other chat board about concept musicals.
I should knwo not to mess with Alan Scott Gomberg.
-
Hmmm, nothing on youtube on the show Angie...
-
And one for McGovern
-
A theme from Angie reference

Doris Roberts was also on Remington Steele with Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalist.
I loved that show! Pierce was very attractive back then (he's certainly aged most gracefully ;)). but I've never seen any of his Bond movies. :-\

Had a phone call, then realized that my little rare paperback book section had never been properly alphabetized - those who know me know that I don't like that sort of thing, so I did it right then and there.

The theme song to Angie is one of my favorite songs. My recollection is that it was quite a funny show and one of my favorites at the time.
I remember that my sister and I really liked this show. We were sad when it was cancelled. :(
-
One of the first things that I will do when I empty out my storage unit is to put my CDs on my shelves and alphabetize them. I need to know where my musicals are. ;)
-
And now I must shower, shave and dress. Then I want to go shopping and find a new jacket...something light but will keep me warm and dry. I have a couple of heavy winter jackets, but I rarely need them.
The regular jacket that I have now is several years old (my mom got it for me for Christmas and now she hates it). Anyway, a couple of the snaps no longer stay closed and it's just annoying, so I must find a new jacket.
Until later!

I don't know if I'll be back before I go to dinner, but I'll definitely be back before midnight PST. ;D

But before I go...Gratuitous Post # 190!

While all the CDs are alphabetized (by genre), I've never gotten around to doing it for the movie theme CDs, and it drives me crazy trying to find anything. It's something I'll get to, but it's a major job.

Where has the morning gone, that's what I want to know?
-
I feel we should set a new record. We won't beat our Academy Awards night, but we can certainly enter the top ten, something no New Year's Rockin' Eve has done.

I am the same way... Every book has its place in the pecking order. Genre, Subject and Author... In some instances size comes into play when it comes to storage.
I have a sizeable Irish Lit and history collection, Sci fi, and non-fiction that includes art, theatre, photography and natue.

I do have some neat schoolbooks from the 1860s and 1870s. The oldest book in my collection is a geography book from 1860.

Good afternoon, fellow Dear Readers.

I do have an interesting little book. It is a copy of a Louis L'Amour book published in French.

Good afternoon, fellow Dear Readers.

Playdough?? The stuff that kids play with?

Where has the morning gone, that's what I want to know?
Are you mourning for the morning?

-
Yes, playdough. I know how to party!
Actually, the playdough is going with some ladies who will be working at a FEMA center in New Orleans which opens tomorrow to help folks who are going to be going home. They will abe caring for the children while the parents file their paperwork. I was asked to go also, but I have a three-day retreat in Pomona to go to during that time.
-
Back from a jog. Coudy and cool, but pleasant. I passed another jogger early on and he was going twice as fast as me. I passed him again at the tail end of the jog, and I was going faster than him.

Wouldn't it be great to get to page eight?

The soup is for the soup-tasting party tonight.

I can, however, already tell you that this will be the highest December, posting-wise, we've ever had, and by quite a margin.

The telephone line this morning was full of noise and static, so that's why I haven't been on line all day. Just couldn't keep the connection to the internet.
-
So, I spent the morning taking down the Christmas tree and putting away the decorations around the house. I don't do a lot of decoration but more this year than I have in past years.
And while I did it, I listened to the soundtrack of Lucy/MAME.
-
Once I got laundry started and lunch cooked and eaten, I sat down to watch some video items.
I began with some CSI episodes. The first one concerned a couple of people with "human werewolf syndrome," one of whom had been murdered. It was a melancholy episode, but well done and certainly interesting.
-
Finishing off disc 3 in the set, I watched a story of a motocross biker's murder. The suspects were a mother and daughter, both of whom were sleeping with the guy.
Another murder in the episode was a woman who had been tied up with Nick's kidnapping and near execution in the Season 5 finale episode directed by Quentin Tarantino. Nice to put a capper on that story.
-
Derbrucer-Nice photo of the fireworks. What station do I watch to catch the fireworks in Bucharest? They should be going off in about half an hour.
-
Then I watched 16 BLOCKS, a thriller from earlier this year starring Bruce Willis and directed by Richard Donner whom we've been talking about here for the past few days. It's a taut thriller/chase film with Willis as a cop trying to get Mos Def, a witness, to a courthouse to give grand jury testimony. The courthouse is only 16 NYC blocks away, but they have less than two hours to get there before the time limit expires.
A couple of places evidenced some weak plotting but on the whole, I liked it.
BTW, the DVD allows the viewer to watch the theatrical cut or the movie with an alternate ending. I chose the theatrical cut, but the alternate ending is also offered in the special features which I'll look at later.
-
I finished the afternoon watching some deleted scenes from 16 BLOCKS from the DVD. DOnner and the screenwriter (forget his name) offer introductions and in some cases commentary during the scenes explaining why they were excised.
The movie runs a very tight 102 minutes, so the cutting of these scenes worked well to keep the running time under two hours, perfect for this kind of movie.
-
Am burning photographs to a DVD - about 1.2 gigs.
-
TOnight, I'll finish the deleted scenes, look at the alternate ending, and then I'll be watching the Blu-ray disc of CORPSE BRIDE.
-
Then I shall go out in search of foodstuffs.
-
My goodness, it takes a long time to burn 1.2 gigs to DVD.
-
Still burning after all these years.
-
Only half way through. BK fiddles while DVD burns.
-
Isn't it rather late to be on page eight?
-
...and now it is time for you to post until the hopeful cows come home.

Cows also 'have regional accents' (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/5277090.stm)
Cows have regional accents like humans, language specialists have suggested.
They decided to examine the issue after dairy farmers noticed their cows had slightly different moos, depending on which herd they came from.
John Wells, Professor of Phonetics at the University of London, said regional twangs had been seen before in birds.
The farmers in Somerset who noticed the phenomenon said it may have been the result of the close bond between them and their animals.

More Than 1,000 Wounded During Muslim Animal Sacrifice in Turkey
Sunday , December 31, 2006
ANKARA, Turkey — One man lost his toes. Others cut their hands and legs.
Hundreds of Turks spent the first day of the Muslim feast of Eid al-Adha holiday in emergency wards on Sunday, after stabbing themselves or suffering other injuries while sacrificing startled and agitated sheep and other animals.
Muslims sacrifice cows, sheep, goats and bulls during the four-day religious holiday, a ritual commemorating the biblical account of God's provision of a ram for Abraham to sacrifice as he was about to slay his son. They share the meat with friends, family and neighbors and give part of it to the poor.
In Turkey, at least 1,413 people — called "amateur butchers" by the Turkish media — were treated at hospitals across the country, most suffering cuts to their hands and legs, the Anatolia news agency reported.
Four people were severely injured when they were crushed under the weight of large animals that fell on top of them, the agency reported. Another person was hurt when a crane, used to lift an animal, tumbled onto him, the agency said.
Three people suffered heart attacks and died while trying to restrain animals, according to television reports.

bk - How's the burning coming along? I know sometimes it will seem like it's doing it twice... and, in essence, it is. The first time, the files are transferred to the disc, then the second time it's permanently burned to the disc. I know I've "seen" that when I've burned extended audio files.

I don't understand this song, but it seems to have been recorded by Josh Groban:
February Song
Where has that old friend gone
Lost in a February song
Tell him it won't be long
Til he opens his eyes, opens his eyes
Where is that simple day
Before colors broke into shades
And how did I ever fade
Into this life, into this life
And I never want to let you down
Forgive me if I slip away
When all that I've known is lost and found
I promise you I, I'll come back to you one day
Morning is waking up
And sometimes it's more than just enough
When all that you need to love
Is in front of your eyes
It's in front of your eyes
And I never want to let you down
Forgive me if I slip away
Sometimes it's hard to find my ground
Cause I keep on falling as I try to get away
From this crazy world
And I never want to let you down
Forgive me if I slip away
When all that I've known is lost and found
I promise you I, I'll come back to you one day
Where has that old friend gone
Lost in a February song
Tell him it won't be long
Til he opens his eyes
Opens his eyes

Sandwiches were really yummilicious. What a good choice! Cole slaw was okay. On that other board, one of the Dreamgirls fanatics who must post every box office murmer has posted the Variety stats for the weekend. It did something like 18mil. And then he posts a cumulitive total of 38M. In what universe? Do they think we forget what they've posted before? It most certainly hadn't done twenty million pre Christmas. They did exactly this sort of lying on POTO - three months later the gross was LESS than they'd originally reported three months prior - that's WITH the three months' worth of business. Maybe it will be a box-office smash, maybe it won't, but this kind of horse manure is amazing to me.
-
But, Dreamworks has to do this - they NEED this. So, a little white lie about the gross to Variety won't hurt anyone. Except the shareholders, and what do they know?
-
??? thinking.

Sandwiches are made to be broken.
If you ever spent some time preparing lunch for 4-10 year olds , you would know that Sandwiches need to be particularly crafted, and particularly presented - Her Majesty, at High Tea, could not be so fussy! "Cut in half", you say. Which way "in half?" is the existential dilemma.

I've given them (on the other board) something to come after me about - they will, and I know FJL will be there to defend me from the usual suspects. That's where the puffed up POTP grosses appeared incorrectly - and, of course, three months later when it was rock certain they were horse manure, they just silently changed what they'd originally posted, and when I pointed this out on that board the usual suspects were, as usual, nowhere to be found.

Improvised cheesy potatoes are in the oven - soon we'll grill chopped sirloins and have those items with salads and breadsticks leftover from the Olive Garden carry-in last week. Another wild & crazy New Year's Eve in the Palmer household.

Larry, there are guest rooms aplenty in our new house! Of course, we need to have our offer accepted and all the loan stuff go through. I'm still trying to keep my hopes from going up too high.
I could not begin to try to catch up on EVERYTHING I've missed before the new year, so for now I am sending health vibes for all those who need them

Comfort and cheer vibes for all those who may need them

And general holiday spirit vibes for all, whether they need them or not!

Why? Why? Why, after six months straight, have I been "logged out" on this here site? It make no bloody sense. Can someone explain it? I always check the box "keep me logged in" and that's the way it usually is. Then, out of the blue, I'm a "guest" and need to log in. I don't get it.

I'm finding The Illustrated Man really bad.

Good afternoon (Mountain Standard Time) to each and every single lovely, enticing, demure, buffed, flirtatious, rugged, stunning, erotic, wise, all-knowing, creative, hunky, droll, witty, sensual, and guapo Dear Reader on this here board !!
Why..... I think I just realized that all of those "descriptives" could apply just to the unique and wonderful DR Mike Barnum alone!
But they also apply to all of the DRs here in the Living Room. !!
-
And even most especially to our Dear and Esteemed,....
B K HIMSELF !!
-
And Good to see you DR ANN !!
-
And even though I have to go to a little meeting in the earlier part of the evening,.........
-
I'm not going to give up........
-
Until I can shamelessly..........
-
Oh YAE !!!! ...
........indeed get to page 13 !!

But instead of anything shamelessly wild and showy, like the boogaloo or the monkey.....

I shall stand here coyly, and just do a small shoulder-shake, as my dance contribution.
Maybe Elmore could add in an occasional pelvic thrust......

BK: re your Dreamgirls posting on "that other site: (not to be confused with "that other label"):
You posted:
15 mil is okay. What's not okay is the cumulitive numbers - they make no sense - this film hadn't grossed over 20mil prior to Christmas, except in the Dreamworks Fantasyland.
Now the 15 Mil you said was OK was projected for this three day weekend (roughly 5 Mil/day). The 20 Mil you question would be for the four day holiday period 25-28 Dec (again, roughly 5 Mil/day) (Actuals reported at 22 Mil)
IF the 15 Mil is reasonable, then a projected Yearly Gross of $38 Mil seems reasonable.
What am I missing.

I just thought it would be fun, at the close of the year, to share a picture of a very fond memory involving a true star and a truly gracious and charming lady from film history.
This was from a special evening, quite a while ago, when the AFI gave a special award to Lillian Gish, and they presented it here in Phoenix. After the main program, Kerry and I were invited to a private party for Miss Gish, and we both had a chance to visit with her individually.
This picture was taken while Miss Gish and I were talking about silent films, the score music that I had played for a number of them (obviously in later years), and remembering a number of the grand old movie palaces in the Los Angeles and Hollywood area.
What a warm and friendly lady she was!
-
I'll be back later to check on the goings-ons, and the ons-goings here in the Living Room.
Save me a shrimp cocktail shrimp !

Just got back from the laundromat. do we know how to party or what?
The people who have a get-together every year are in the midst of kitchen repairs. We were all expecting to go there so none of us made a back-up plan. The weather is horrible and rainy hard, so everyone feels like staying put. We're going out for Vietnamese food with a friend who usually parties with us, dropping presents off to friends with the torn up kitchen, and then going into Atlanta to watch the year change in the new house. We also usually celebrate with my best friend but the weather is too bad for her to drive here from Athens, so we will go there tomorrow to celebrate with her and give her her Xmas presents.
I plan to return at least for a mountain-time HHW celebration!

But before I leave:

Happy New Year to all my friends and compatriots on this here site!!! What a strange year it has been, how strange the past three weeks have been, and on it goes.
I'm at my sister Rikki's tonight - I went to Costco day before yesterday to buy a slab o' salmon and a metric ton o' mushrooms, and I shall cook these delicious items simply, and toss a salad, whee, toss toss, and we will bite cheeses and sip some Veuve Cliquot and watch old movies, like the two old spinsters we are.
Sigh.
And life goes on. And on. Where have the last 8 years gone? And where was I while they were going wherever the hell they went??
Ah, me... but there is a swell dawg here to celebrate with, and my fine sister, Rikki, and all of us in good fettle/mettle/kettle. So go ye and have a good one! See y'all next year, hear?
-
But before I leave:
Happy New Year, Tom and François!
Thank you. It's started off well. François is on vacation so is unlikely to be on the NET for three weeks.
-
We have supped and are now well into The Devil Wears Prada. My DH and DS knew not to cross me on tonight's movie choice.
-
Finished The Illustrated Man, and will figure out what's next before we begin our partay - say around seven my time.
-
Ann and Jed, good vibes you soon have a house of your own!!!

I have a bottle here of something called Veuve Vernet - is that champagne?
-
It's left over from the Deceit opening night party.

Does on chill champagne before opening, should Veuve Vernet be champagne, that is.

Shouldn't we have more teen, say, fourteen?

I'll try and remember to send over a CD of nearly all the songs from the movie JRand. The soundtrack LP only had about half!
Helen was amazingly popular in England but had little stage presence I believe. She has the honour (!!) of being the most reported/rumour dead singer in the UK.

Helen Shapiro had 5 top 10 hits (including 2 #1) and was voted the UK's top female singer before she was 16.
-
JRand - Yvonne deCarlo Glare - it sounds like a special kind of eye makeup.
That was someone else who made Yvonne glare. I suggested that the glare might have been understandable because the fan was trying to explain to Yvonne why the house in which she had just done Hello Dolly was only a quarter full. The fan meant to be consoling to Yvonne, but I thought that by explaining the small house to her, he was just risking making her feel worse about it. But while she glared, she did sign an autograph for the fan. A couple of people thought Yvonne should have been more gracious.

I do hate to be the naysayer, but I have never liked Audra MacDonald's singing - ever. I enjoyed her, sort of, in Carousel, but I cannot listen to her CDs, because every single vocal sounds exactly the same, and that, for me, means she has no clew what she's singing about. And I cannot watch her perform because there's somthing snarky about it - there's no reality at all. And Audra (or her "people") always use orchestrators I have no interest in. Just has I had my rep company of orchestrators, so does Nonesuch and that group - only mine was good and theirs is, well, not interesting to me.

Our excruciatingly glamorous New Year's Eve continues - we finished The Devil Wears Prada and did the dishes. Now we're going to eat the last of the Christmas pumpkin pie.

I've had a wonderful day betwixt a late luncheon with my friend Donald from Atlanta and his friend John - a very interesting artist - now living in San Francisco. When I got in, I burned some CDs for Donald, and I will deliver them on Tuesday to his hotel. Tonight, I've had several slices of a most delicious pizza and I've been watching the UGLY BETTY marathon on the ABC family station.
I haven't decided if I should have some gin and tonic or eggnog before I go to bed. It will be very soon. New Year's Eve consists of Too Many Midnights, the title of my next fantasy novel.

I didn't care for Floyd Collins - it bored me to tears, I must say, along with its orchestrations. I got tired of all that multiple guitar stuff - even though it was our NY fave, Kevin Kuhn. Want to hear one of the most beautiful guitar things ever - listen to Mr. Kuhn on Guy Haines' version of What Can You Lose? It was originally scored for sax, but when I heard what Mr. Kuhn was doing I asked elmore if we could have him be the soloist, as I thought the sax was too standard (plus, our sax player was, how shall we say - oh, read Rewind), and elmore graciously complied and the result is magical.

SPRING AWAKENING SPOILER
There's a scene where a group of men, this is a family site so let's just say they spill their seed, on a coffin in a grave.
I figure that's a perfect spot for a coffin fit.
-
Last week, I decided I owed myself a present; so, I decided to buy a new DVD to watch over the holidays. I looked through the sale racks at the store and I came across a copy of the new Poseidon Adventure. And it was only $7.99
The surprise was on me! It wasn't the new Poseidon, or even the old Poseidon; but last year's television miniseries from the Hallmark Network, instead.
Actually, I ended up enjoying it very much. There are variations on all the original characters... Sylvia Syms for Shelley Winters, Adam Baldwin for Ermest Borgnine..... There was also, the same bad acting like the original; plus some international terrorists who help cause the ship to capsize. But it was fun. I really enjoyed it.

Jrand - At least off-Broadway, SPRING AWAKENING was quite a remarkable show until the last 20 minutes, when it seemed to go awry.
(What's disturbing is that its supporters seem to be treating it like a contest between it and the other serious-themed musicals on Broadway)

I finally had had enough of all the line noise spoiling my internet connection and called the telephone repair line. Within a hour there was a repairman at my door telling me he had located the source of the problem and it was cleared.
And this on aa Sunday and New Year's Eve at that! I say terrible things sometimes about the telephone company, but I have to admit that's pretty excellent service.

He is on TCM all night tonight! ;D

I am trying to hang on until 2007!

Anyway, thought I started my viewing with the Blu-ray version of Tim Burton's CORPSE BRIDE. I had a suspicion that animation would look spectacular in a high definition disc, and I wasn't mistaken. So three dimensional, I thought the figures were going to reach out and touch me. Really astounding.
I also watched some of the special features on the disc and some of the voice talent recording their roles. Like Disney does, Warners had each actor record separately, never together.
-
one site wrote that Helen Shapiro is now a member of Jews for Jesus.
-
Skip had better get back from that party to be here with me at midnight.
-

I saw that! Of course, I already have all of his films with his brothers except LOVE HAPPY. It was just too terrible to purchase.

Next I felt in the mood for action/adventure. I've seen all of the usual suspects (Indy Jones, AIR FORCE ONE, EXECUTIVE DECISION, DANTE'S PEAK), so I plucked LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER off the shelf.
One thing that spurred me to pick this is that Daniel Craig was in the cast. I didn't remember much of anything about the film at all apart from the opening fight with the robot, so it was empty-headed fun, and Daniel looked just as stunning in this as he does in CASINO ROYALE. He didn't have to get in shape for that film. He was already in shape when he did LARA CROFT.
I don't have the second LARA CROFT adventure (CRADLE OF LIFE). I saw it on HBO but never bought it on DVD. I can't remember if Daniel's in it or not. I remember Gerard Butler did this after he did PHANTOM.

Happy [impending] New Year, everyone!
-
I see others have no plans to leave hearth and home, kith and kin on this night of nights for joyous, drunken abandon.
Frankly, I've never understood the fuss.
Another year...OLDER and CLOSER to death.
-
I watched some of the deleted scenes from the Lara Croft DVD after I finished the main feature. There were lots of other special features, but I didn't bother with any of them tonight. I had other things I wanted to see.
-
I guess it's all about surviving.
-
TCB said: "I came across a copy of the new Poseidon Adventure. And it was only $7.99"
Where's TCB when you need him to comment?
I must be tired, because I don't get it.

I haz responded to Mr. John Patti (wonder if he's related to Adriana or if that's even his real name). My repsonse was quite even-keeled and nice.
-
My New Year's resolution is to be rid of concern about political correctness.
This year, I calls 'em as I sees 'em/hears 'em/feels 'em.
-
Next, I put in disc 4 of the CSI set. The first episode was the famous one with Faye Dunaway playing a showgirl who finally decides to write a tell-all book and have a party to celebrate its publication. At her party, a man is murdered and someone takes some potshots at her, too.
Good episode punctuated by lots of Sinatra oldies on the soundtrack.

We'll have postings aplenty if we get to twenty.

If you have to explain 'em...
:)

My last post makes no sense at this point!
-
I've been watching The Comedians for close to ninety minutes, which means there's still sixty minutes to go.
-
Check the verbs. :o
Speakin' of verbs.
I am sick to death of folks on TV using words as verbs that ain't verbs.
Today, I heard Brett Favre say about his performance (to come) in today's game against Chicago: "I'm gonna tribute this game to my father."
Say what? Come ON! No one can tribute something to anyone.
And that's just the tip of of the ignorance parade fully on display on the airwaves.

But he said if we're not gunshy
We can make it to page twenty

-
That's Christina Aguilara?

I've had few New Year's Eve celebrations that actually amounted to enjoyable evenings.
More often than not, someone's feelings got hurt, someone hated the food, someone got into a fight, etc., etc.
Rooms full of people trying way too hard to be too happy.

And still full from the earlier sandwiches.

So... Now I'm gonna attempt to catch up on the post from the past couple of hours... as well as make the requisite phone calls to my family. -Especially my brother, Jay, who's birthday is January 1 - and most of my family is actually at a surprise party for him tonight down in Virginia Beach, so... Since I probably won't make it back here by midnight (here on the East Coast, that is)...
A Very Happy New Year To Everyone!

I've had lots of good New Years' Eves. Some have been at home alone, some have been at parties with friends and some have been with family. At this point in time I can't remember a bad one...but I'm pretty good a blocking things out

Associated Press (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,240286,00.html)
Pope Benedict XVI prayed at a New Year's Eve service at the Vatican City in Rome that 2007 would bring the world "peace, comfort, justice." But he cast a cold eye on some secular New Year celebrations, saying such social "rites" are "often carried out as an escape from reality."
I agree - such disrespect on the eve of the Feast of the Circumcism; we should have sausage festivals :D

Skip got back in the nick of time.
-
As they say, "It's not where you start, it's where you finish."
I cannot say where it was I started the new year in 2006, but I'm finishing it here, looks like.
It's been QUITE the year...but the most joy I've had in it is the fact that the American public finally woke up to the awful truth about the Bush administration...I'd been soudning alarms about Bush since the day he won his first term with fewer popular votes than Gore.
Bush topped the polls recently as the worst villain and best hero in the world. The hero vote was a mere 19%, but sufficient for him to lead. The villain vote was far more substantial...and he topped some truly despicable folks.
Another joyous event was the downfall of Karl Rove. The evil behind the nimcompoop.
And then there was the Democratic victoriy at the polls in November, giving the party the majority in both houses of Congress.
2006 was QUITE the year.

After dinner at Anthony's, our parents went home and I went back to my sister's with her, my niece and my sister's boyfriend. We played a new trivia game about TV quotes. It was okay. Then I came here and that's where I'll be until tomorrow when we all go to our parents' house for dinner.
