Title: DOES ANYONE STILL EAT A BLINTZ?
Post by: bk on January 31, 2007, 12:17:25 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes made you hungry for a blintz, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're just having some blintzes and then they'll be right home after they plotz.

I will leave it to others to explain what a blintz is.  It resembles a burrito, sort of.

Now playing on the iPod - wonderful music from what was meant to be volume two and three of music used in the Superman TV series.  The albums were prepped and ready to be released (we did the first volume at VS), but there were some legal issues that didn't get ironed out - happily, I had the masters and still have them.

Some of this music is so amazing and so familiar from being used in so many episodes - volume two actually has the most recognizable stuff on it.

What kind of legal issues?  Can they be ironed out now?  Would it be worth it...or just much too expensive?

The legal issues had something to do with the publishing - it's convoluted - for some reason volume one was easy to do, but Varese's lawyer just gave up on the subsequent two volumes.  My guess is that if you just put 'em out no one would care.

Has anyone else been having trouble with amazon being totally screwy lately.  It's happening way too frequently - unable to log in (get an error message) - it's their glitch - they've been "updating" their system, but it's quite infuriating.  You can't e-mail them about it, because they act like it's YOU who did something wrong and they tell you to change your password, etc.  Do NOT do it - it's their problem and they get it working eventually.  If you actually call them and you get a human being (not an automaton from India) then they admit it's their prob.

Monday night was an adventure at work...

A shelving unit that i informed library admininstration that was wobbly last summer and they claimed they placed a work order in last summer to fix it. WEll it was not fixed and it collapsed Monday night thus meaning me, two student workers and two students who volunteered to help clean up the mess of over 800 books strewn on the floor. What a fun mess!

Well at least it was an interesting area... books on Stravinsky, Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin....

BK-my question would be, what is the best theatre restoration you have seen?

And what restored theatre has the most successful programming, in your opinion? The type that makes it a destination point, that would draw people from a large radius because it was unique, or it had some alluring identity?

I forgot to mention last night that I also found time before prime time started to watch Monday night's STUDIO 60. I found it a very disappointing episode. The characters are becoming people I don't like or very much care for (especially the smug, egotistical character D.L. Hugley plays), and the plotting is for the birds. Tom lying to the girl he's interested in because he was asked by his boss to take someone else to a dinner. Why lie? It's not like he had much of a choice or that they had invested any time at all in the relationship yet. Of course, he lied so the show would have a plot for him. Of course, she's going to find out.

Making matters worse, this was the first of a three part episode on this set of plotlines (Matt and Harriet falling out, Danny and Jordan stuck on the roof, etc.) I think this episode pretty much put the final nail in the coffin for the show. It's not going to pick up any more viewers with stories like this and without more viewers, NBC will cut its losses by the end of the season.

Hmmmm.....there used to be an income point below which you got a total refund of your Federal Income Tax deductions.

Now - if you make $15, you owe $1 in Federal Income Tax.  Even with ALL of my deductions and my LOWER income & retirement pay....I had to give the US Government $353.  This is MORE than I paid when I earned much more and was working full time.   >:(

I feel your pain. No matter how much I pay in quarterly taxes to try to get a jump on taxes owed, I still end up owing more. It's never ending.

I haven't figured my taxes yet for 2006 and won't for another two months. Last year, I did it mid-February, and I received three updated forms from my brokerage that changed my taxes (luckily lower each time but still). This year, it'll be late March/early April before I sit down to do them.

Last year, I used Turbo Tax, and it was relatively painless. I've switched to TaxCut this year. The software was cheaper, the e-file came with it, and hopefully, it will be as manageable as TurboTax was.

Absolutely thrilled that at long last the brilliant movie THE HEIRESS comes out on DVD next week. So does THE CLOCK. Two great movies making their DVD debuts next week, and I'm delighted to finally get them in commercial form.

I've used the laserdisc to watch THE CLOCK for the last ten years. As for THE HEIRESS, I burned a DVD-R from its airing on TCM about a year ago.

These new issues should be a step up for me with each of them.

He said the set of costumes that she wore in the film were the third set of clothes he designed for her for the movie. She didn't like his designs the other two times he tried, so these clothes were HER choice, not his. He drew what she told him she wanted. I wonder if she saw MODESTY BLAISE and wanted something op-art?

He said he didn't really mind doing three sets of designs for her because he had done her wardrobe before and considered her a good friend.

He also said that the lynx coat and high boots that she wears late in the picture for her meeting with Ray Walston in the snow was his favorite outfit in the picture, and because of the way it was shot, you really didn't get to see it in all its glory, his biggest disappointment with the film.

He says that looking at the clothes now, he thinks they're silly, but that at the time, they fit right in with the Carnaby Street high fashion that was popular.

I also have two incomes...my retirement (military) and my full-time job with the County.

I have to pay additional state/federal taxes to compensate for the combined income, even though taxes are taken out of both incomes.  They take out taxes based on "each" income...but neither is sufficient when the incomes are combined.  It's just a higher tax bracket.

Edi - re Sister Act:  A good friend of ours is one of the writers, and it got a nice review (linked below) in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, so i was wondering if there was any buzz about the show in entertainment circles.

Also, we have a pair of tickets (5th row center) for the matinee on Feb. 24 that we won't be able to use, and if you're interested in that kind of thing, you can have them gratis - we just don't want the seats to go to waste, and when it comes to Atlanta, you're the first person I think of these days, of course.

Are there any "Raintree County" (the movie) fans in this forum?

If so...there is some phenomenal news.  After many years, and despite numerous LP and CD incarnations of the original score (or, what was allowed to be released from the original score), Film Score Monthly has announced the complete original score -- remastered from original elements -- and including the main title song as sung by Nat King Cole:

Jrand - Are you self-employed (an independent contractor)?  If so, in addition to the "income tax" computation, you pay "self-employment tax" instead of social security tax, and that starts with almost the first few dollars you make of gross income.

For the regular "income tax," there's always deductions and an exemption (about $3,300 per exemption at not-too-high income levels) in arriving at taxable income.  Once you have "taxable income," which is computed AFTER deductions and exemption, yes, THEN you pay the income tax from the very first few dollars.

There will be a quiz later.  :)  :)  :)

DR DtM - I think this is the only Lucy special I was not able to watch all the way through.  Part of it WAS the clothes....although for some reason, maybe the comedy angle, they didn't bother me as much as CAPRICE did.  Maybe I wanted my Doris to be stylish and appropriate and I didn't mind Lucy looking silly sometimes....she seemed to do it on purpose and it fit her persona without doing damage.  8)

Question for BK:

Have you ever designed for the stage?  Costumes, lights or scenery?  When and where?

And who are some of your favorite designers?

I haven't - but I know what I like, which is helpful.  Favorite designers - Tony Walton, Robin Wagner, Florence Klotz, Boris Aronson, Tharon Musser.

Two Ohio restorations:

Victoria Theatre, (http://www.victoriatheatre.com/about/about.html), In downtown Dayton.  We have seen some touring musicals there, including 1776, The Full Monty, and Thoroughly Modern Millie.  What we've really enjoyed is the summer "Cool Films" series - the showings include free popcorn and drinks in the lobby and an organ recital before the movie.

The Ritz Theatre (http://www.ritztheatre.org/history.html) in Tiffin.  I have not been there yet, but will go in April when Tiffin hosts the AAUW/Ohio conference I've been working on.  We have before-and-after-the-conference activities planned at the Ritz (before=behind the scenes tour, after=Village People concert)

BK-my question would be, what is the best theatre restoration you have seen?

And what restored theatre has the most successful programming, in your opinion? The type that makes it a destination point, that would draw people from a large radius because it was unique, or it had some alluring identity?

The best movie theater restoration I've seen is, hands down, the El Capitan here in LA.  Formerly one of my favorite movie theaters, the Paramount, by the late 70s it had fallen into a state of neglect by SRO Theaters.  Then, Disney bought it, and completely restored it to the way it looked when it was first built and changed its name back to what it was when it was first built (I sort of wish they'd kept it the Paramount, but that's a different studio).  It's spectacular.

Also, the theater where Lion King played, the New Amsterdam, I think - also a Disney restoration.  Gorgeous.

My first question for ASK BK day... who are the most beautiful female celebrity and the handsomest male celebrity you have ever encountered?

I've met some real beauties, baby.  And worked with a few, too.  I'll start with last night's encounter - Eva Marie Saint who, even at her age, is still so beautiful.  Of the people I've worked with I was entranced by the beauty of Patricia Neal, Susan Dey, Shirley Jones, Jean Simmons, etc.  Tanya Roberts was very pretty, too.

And lest we forget - Miss Ann Margret!

Our local Jewish deli stopped serving blintzes, bolstering BK's theory that the blintz has fallen out of favor. I used to love them. Adrianna, it's kind of like a burrito filled with cottage cheese and fruit! Yummy!

It is a crepe made with milk, not water.  The filling delicious filling contains cream cheese & farmers or hoop cheese flavored with vanilla, cinnamon and sugar.

I can't eat the ones made with cottage cheese.

Edisauris-I hope the history of the theater is maintained.  If the “colored only” entrance is torn town I would expect the lobby to have photos of the original entrance and stairway leading to the section.  I would also expect a plaque to be placed outside the current entrance.  I’m not sure why there is a debate since the original sign has already been removed.  History should honor what was and show respect for those who were forced to use a separate section of the theater.

Just when I thought things were going well at the office I get a phone call that someone complained because I worked at home one day and then the next day said I got a good deal at the store closing. Can you believe this crap.   I went on my lunch hour and my time sheet reflected that.   2 people called my boss to complain about this.

I made some calls about office rents today, it's cheaper than I thought. I'm back on the opening in August plan

Anyone read about the L.A. politician who plans on introducing legislation to ban the sale of incandescent light bulbs in the state of California?

While incandescents are not as efficient as fluorescents, he would ask that we ban the incandescent bulb.

But...never ban cigarettes.  No.  TAX cigarettes.

Why not add a tax to the sale of incandescents for anyone who wants an incandescent?  That tax would offset whatever damage they claim incandescents do.

But by all means, let cigarettes be sold....far more worthwhile to allow the sales of death sticks than light bulbs.

History should honor what was and show respect for those who were forced to use a separate section of the theater.

Which issue was the subject of one the few social protests in which I participated in the 50s. The only movie theatre in Annapolis was requiring our only Black classmate to sit in the balcony - the earlier Annapolic classes, who also had a few tokens, did not challenge the policy - we did - and won. (A threat of a boycott by an establishment's main clientele is very potent.)

Why not add a tax to the sale of incandescents for anyone who wants an incandescent?

Thank-you! Using government's taxing policy to encourage socially responsible behavior is something even a conservative like me can support. (Of course I support a $3.00/gallon tax on gasoline as well.)

Meanwhile, the Delaware coastal dwellers are up in arms at the thought that the state might support wind farms over a new coal burning power plant. The wind-farms (9-15 miles off ahore) might ruin their pristine vista, not to mention the unsightly power connection boxes where the power comes ashore. Even some of the environmentalists oppose the windmill farms: might hurt some birds, and noisy transmission lines on the sea bed might scare the fish!

My favoritie scheme proposed  for preserving Delaware's air quality is that we should prohibit any new power plants, tear down the existing power plant and pull our power needs off of the NorthEastern Interstate grid.

Of course there are thgose who want us to buils a corn-to-methanol plant; after all we are a mjoer agricultural state. (True, but we import corn! Those chickens sure do eat!) Sussex County, Delaware is ranked first among America's counties in broiler chicken production.

Awwwww!  That would be wonderful, FJL!

Would it be tacky or would you be offended if I offered them for a silent auction instead of seeing the show myself? I have been collecting items for our SMA Masquerade on Feb. 17th, and we have nothing like this! Randy Newman and Alton Brown have given me some great autographed items, Ken Burns sent over a huge box of autographed books, DVD's and jazz CD's and local merchants that Greg and I frequent have been very generous, but this is something that anyone would want to go to so it would be easy to get bids for it.

From last year's event:
http://s4796.gridserver.com/index.php?fam_atlanta

My godson Quinn has SMA---he's a brilliant, musical kid but will be in a wheelchair the rest of his life. This group strictly funds research and has made some progress towards finding a cure. Quinn has been flying into Salt Lake City for regular visits for experimental therapy.

If you think that would be OK with your friends, it would be an extremely cool thing to have, especially since the tickets are a week after the auction. We can send your friend a tax document thanking them for their donation. (We're a 501C-3.)

That score was by Johnny Green!  I worked with him in 1987, not too long before he died.  I dearly loved him.

TAX cigarettes.

Better yet, de-criminalize pot - regulate it, and Tax the hell out of it! (You could probably generate enough tax income to provide health care for all disadvantaged minors in the state.)

Of course de-criminalizing, and then regulating, all recreational drugs would result in a giant reduction in the crime rate (particularly crimes against property) - not to mention a dramatic lowering of prison needs).

Overcrowded California prisons and the incarceration of drug offenders (http://jurist.law.pitt.edu/hotline/2006/10/overcrowded-california-prisons-and.php)
Quote
"Nearly three decades after California cracked down on rising crime rates with tougher sentencing laws, Californians are beginning to realize the downside of what many experts say has been one of the most poorly planned prison expansions in the country. A recent Justice Policy Institute study states that California leads the nation in drug offender imprisonment with a rate of 115 per 100,000 (the national average is 44 per 100,000).

By the year 2000, there were 458,131 drug offenders incarcerated in America's prisons and jails – approximately the size of the entire US prison and jail population of 1980. This means that nearly one in four (23.7%) prisoners in America is incarcerated for a non-violent drug offense. Contrary to the public perception that the incarceration of violent offenders has driven America's prison growth the major group responsible for the overcrowding of California's prisons is non-violent drug offenders.

I want to know much, much more about this working with him.

Pray, tell all!  The guy who wrote the liner notes for this new release once interviewed Green specifically about the score and also did a complete score analysis, which was printed in a Library of Congress publication.

In an interview he did for "The Cue Sheet", the in-house publication of the Film Music Society (formerly the Society for the Preservation of Film Music), Green had a lot to say about many things he did, among them "Oliver!" about which, he promised, he was going to write a book.  It never happened, but one hopes he had notes that may one day come to light.

Poor guys would never come out and say that the movie flopped, but flop it did. It was really Doris' lowest grosser of the 1960s to that time (BALLAD OF JOSIE ended up being the lowest). I think even JUMBO did better business.

BOSTON LEGAL has now enetered the territory of other shows where almost everybody in the cast is sleeping with, dating, or otherwise interested in someone else in the cast. It all gets rather tedious and predictable.

This week's courtroom scenes were ridiculous in the extreme (Shelley Berman was the befuddled judge), but as Spader and Shatner said in the closing moments, regular viewers know to expect and not be surprised about anything so you just take it with a grain of salt and go on.

The sound clips for The Brain have been fixed (she imported them incorrectly) - you may have to empty your cache, but now no one should sound like they have a lisp when they're singing.  There will also be more photos up later today.  And you can now also see the lyrics as well as download them.

Now if only we had some orders...

I just ordered both CDs!  BK, which e-mail do we use for requests for autographed copies?  Is it too late to get autographed copies??

Ok, confession and feel stupid time.  I attempted to catch up on spreading holiday cheer by sending the adobe files of the recipes in my cookbook to several people who I had addresses for and who I thought may enjoy them. (If it's clear you don't ever cook...I didn't send you one)

If you didn't get one, don't feel bad. It turns out I must not have done something right with the software on that computer because many, but not all, of the disks were blank!  I have discovered the adobe files aren't that big and can be emailed.

SO, if you got a blank CD and want the files let me know. If you didn't get a CD and want the files, let me know.  I'm happy to share them via email.

The other day when we were discussing breakfast foods, I mentioned my blueberry crepes.  They sound a lot like blintzes - a thin pancake filled with a cream cheese/sour cream mixture, rolled up, baked, then topped with blueberry syrup laced with Curacao.

While similar, it needs the second cheese to taste like a blintz.

Edi - If the charity wants something truly unusual to auction off, we had a nice response once when we gave away as a grand prize a LAST STARFIGHTER giveaway package, which consisted of:  the collectors' edition 3-part Marvel comics series; the collectors' edition Last Starfighter movie DVD; the Kritzerland CD of the musical; the program for the musical's world premiere in NYC; and (especially rare) the limited edition jumbo poster from the world premiere of the musical.

Maybe not worth much unless the musical some day becomes a hit somewhere, but it's certainly unusual.  :)

I want to know much, much more about this working with him.

Well, there isn't much to tell.  I was the librarian/music supervisor for Michael Tilson Thomas on the Emmy winning Gershwin celebration at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and Johnny, because of his Fred Astaire arrangements from the 1930s, was a guest star.  He conducted a set of his Astaire Gershwin arrangements with Maureen McGovern, Christopher Walken and others.  He was grumpy, could be very curt with fools, and he liked me because I was at rehearsals to work and I had a ton to do.  After a couple of days, he became very friendly and I had a great time with him, asking questions about his career and his family.  He had been Richard Rodgers' musical director for BY JUPITER. which led to Hollywood, he had done Broadway, radio, and recordings with his band in the 1930s, and he knew everyone.  I do remember telling him I thought RAINTREE COUNTY was a weird film and he agreed.  We talked about how expensive the album was, which amazed him, and how hard it was to find.  I don't remember talking about other films, I was mostly interested in his Broadway career.

I don't remember much more from 20 years ago, except that he liked me and was very kind.  I loved him dearly.  He was sort of the curmudgeonly grandfather with me. When I went backstage after the performance, he told me we'd be working again, which thrilled me no end.  The next year his health rapidly declined and he was dead not long after.  Cancer, I recall.  I still listen to those arrangements for Astaire and marvel at how wonderful they are.

DR Elmore, I would have wanted to know all his stories about working with the Freed Unit at MGM. But the Broadway stories certainly would have been interesting, too, especially since it appears during his career he worked with most of the greats in the industry.

As much as I love the original CINDERELLA with Julie Andrews, my favorite is his remake cast recording with Lesley Ann Warren with the new overture and "Loneliness of Evening" added.

Edi - I don't know that you'd necessarily even get face value for the tickets, since I assume people that want to see the show can get tix at the box office.  However, we'd LOVE to make a donation.  Can we send you the check, and what is name of the charity to make the check out to?  Or is there a site where we can donate online and have it credited to this particular event?

FJL, oh we will definitely get face value for the tickets, so since they are comps, that would be 100% benefit for SMA. I am moved by your generosity of your offer to donate. Even a small donation means a lot to SMA---it shows that there are a number of people interested in seeing that research is funded. Our governor has already cut the budget of a lot of programs that would benefit these kids. We staged a rally at the capitol a few months ago. Dozens of kids showed up in the cold in their wheelchairs. The governor turned his back on them and did not want to acknowledge them. I had never heard of SMA until 5 years ago, when we found out that Quinn had it, but this is a disease I think everyone should know about:

SMA is the #1 genetic cause of infant death.
SMA is carried by 1 in every 40 people, or 7 million potental parents.
(Quinn's parents were both carriers but weren't tested for this.)
SMA affects 1 in every 6,000 births.
SMA causes dramatic loss of strength and in the worst cases, the loss of ability to swallow and breathe. The mind remains unaffected, while the muscles waste away.

SMA has been chosen by the National Institute of Health to be a model for translational research because it is the closest to a treatment or cure out of all 300 neurological disorders.
Reasearch is focusing on drugs and genetic therapies that appear to increase the functionality of the backup gene, creating greater strength in people with SMA.

If you would indeed like to donate, you can do it at our website:

http://www.fightsma.org/index.php?fam_atlanta
or send a check to:
Tonya Mason
160 Wellington Drive
McDonough, GA 30252

In the area on the bottom of the check where it says "for", you would say "Absentee Buddy: Quinn".

I'm looking forward to the event---it keeps growing every year!

Thanks so much!

This 60s score in which all stereo elements have been found in pristine condition.

In which an extra half hour of music was found that he didn't know existed.

And that he is planning on releasing at a later date this year.

And if you know....why....I'm just all ears.

Then a friend who's trying to unload a rare first edition of Kerouac's On The Road came by, and I helped him with an eBay listing, after first being turned down by a dealer.  Dealer's only pay 50% of what they can sell it for, if that, so he wasn't going to get anywhere near what my friend wanted.  On the ABE, the book in like condition (which is excellent) goes anywhere from $3750 to about $8000.  My friend wants to come out with a more than reasonable $2500, so I think eBay is the best way to go, where he'll probably at least get close to that, depending on who sees the listing (I've suggested a "featured" auction for best visibility.  I wrote his description.

I don't think I will be trying any cottage cheese burritos....

I have a whole list of errands around the lovely town of HOLLYWOOD to do, so I must get going before it starts to rain!

Thank you Adrianna.
It was ever so nice seeing you in LA this pass December,

You are cute as a button.

And this is coming from an out of the clost Aquarian.

eBay does it again - remember the other day when I asked about songs that had been made from commercial jingles - and I mentioned It Won't Hurt To Try It, which my pal Michael Burns had recorded?  I have that 45 somewhere, but who knows where - so I got a copy on eBay for 1.00 - sung by - wait for it - Jim Nabors.  Just played it - it's really pretty, very Burt Bacharach-sounding, with a nice chart by Al Capps.

I thought it an overreaction, although he made some points I simply didn't consider.  A private note to me would have been more appreciated.

I appreciate that SheriffJoe "cleaned up" Lukas' post a bit at the bitter end...when he exhorted me to "eat the XXXX ing steaks,"

Michael Burns was a sort of "hero" for me during those years when he was on the short-lived "It's A Man's World" with Glenn Corbett and Randy Boone, and later on "Wagon Train."

It was cool when I could see kids my age in grown-up shows, holding their own and being a big part of the show.

I've gone about as fer as I can go with the post office - right up to the top - consumer affairs and the postal inspector.  They are not happy about what I told them and attitudes and lies - and they are now doing an internal investigation of the woman at the post office branch who was uppity with me, and they are putting a tracer on the two packages and will try to retrieve them.  With the eBay CD, I'm out of luck with both seller and paypal because it shows as delivered even though it wasn't delivered to ME.  It's not much money but it's the principal of the thing.

We then procedded to sit at lunch and make our own jokes up about the movies which were loads funnier.

Steve and I had a good time at "The Martha Stewart Show".  Alas, no big audience giveaways today, but lots of good cooking - and lots of good smells wafting through the studio.  Alas, no samples were given out to the audience.  However, from where we were sitting we had a great view of the kitchen area, and it was fun watching the staff's reactions while the show was going on.  Alas, because of where we were sitting, we did not get on camera.  But, again, we had a good time at the show.

The mind remains unaffected, while the muscles waste away.

http://www.fightsma.org/index.php?fam_atlanta

I'm looking forward to the event---it keeps growing every year!

Thanks so much!

DR Edi -- I was very touched by your picture of Quinn & Kona, and surprised by the similarity of SMA to a disease that my neice has.  It is called A-T , and is an abbreviation for Ataxia-telangexstasia (sp?) . The effects are very similar....my neice Emily is coming up to 13, and is in a wheelchair most of the time.  Body very weakened and affected, and a very sharp and loving mind.

I have heard of that but didn't know much about it. Yes, they do sound similar as far as how the body is affected.

Here's a happy story, though. After finding out that both of Quinn's parents carried the SMA gene, they were afraid to have another child. Through the miracles of science, they were able to use invitrofertilization on eggs that were tested beforehand that were SMA free. This is a very painful process and they underwent it 3 times. They were down to their last frozen egg but didn't give up. Here she is: a healthy, beautiful little girl named Sydney with her parents!

You guys are so kind!

I have to post one more picture of little Sydney, because you can see how happy her parents are to have her. Her mom is an editor that I've known since she was a college student and interned with me. She now works at Turner. Her father was an editor that used to assist me down in Jacksonville and I brought him up to Atlanta. Now he's a children's book writer ("The Monster Who Ate My Peas"). After finding him a place to live and a job, I introduced him to his future wife. The rest is history, but that's why Quinn is my godson. I have tried over the years to fix up my friends and this is one only one that took, so I'm quitting while I'm ahead!

I went to a very interesting restaurant tonight. It is new here. But i believe they have others in other cities.  It's called Madison's NY grill and bar. ANd at least here it is really nice and fairly unscale. I had the ribs and they were fantastic.  I went with my uncle and he had roast beef (which he said was fantastic).

They had a really fancy bathroom. And it had this really bizarre turbo hand drier. It was the freakiest thing i've ever seen. Someone was drying their hands while i was at the sink. And it practically blew me away. It was strong!

I found that it helps to feel the office gossips little innocuous things. Otherwise they think you're not quite normal. (Well, maybe in my case...)

I don't think I'm normal, but that's a good thing  ;D

Off to the gym, then to a dairy
Shop for the quints
And on a whim, eat something scary
Maybe a blintz

Does anyone - still eat - a blintz?

They make me wince

(Does wince rhyme with blintz?  :) )

It works for me.

(Someone clearly has too much time on my hands :) )

Another long engrossing play
A drama by Lynn Nottage
Ricotta cheese from overseas
Perhaps we'll just use cottage
Iiiiiiiii'll pass on that

And one for cottage

So here's to the crepes made by Jews
Everybody fries
Ask me where they wind up, I'll give you the news
Everybody's thighs

A dish to give you reason to shmooze
You slice it, watch it slither and ooze
Let's hear it for the crepes made by Jews
Everybody sighs
Everybody sighs
Sighs
Sighs
Sighs
Sighs

Sighs!

I finished MOVE OVER DARLING. Just as cute and funny and endearing as ever. Of the two films she made with James Garner, I like THE THRILL OF IT ALL more, but MOVE OVER DARLING is funny, and Edgar Buchanan is hilarious as the befuddled judge.
Title: Re:DOES ANYONE STILL EAT A BLINTZ?

After I finished MOVE OVER DARLING, I watched all of the featurettes on the DVD. This included a "making of" short, a Doris vs. Marilyn short, and a (brief) conversation with Polly Bergen. Nice but none of them exceptional - mostly talking heads, and since they have to reference MY FAVORITE WIFE so much but didn't want to pay for any use of clips, we get an abundance of clips from SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE and MOVE OVER DARLING.

And I certainly was not disappointed with tonight's BONES episode, a grisly, riveting chase of escaped serial killer (and recurring nemesis for Brennan) Howard Epps. Several close escapes for our heroes and leaving Booth in bad psychological shape.

One of the best episodes of this new season of the show.

Another tedious night with IDOL. In LA, more than 40 people were put through to the next round, but we only saw about four of them. The rest were the weird, crazy, and deluded (and one rather elderly man who had made a promise to his dying lady friend that he'd try to get one and sing to her. Sad to say, she died of cancer two days before audition day.) Had they had IDOL forty years ago, he surely would have qualified. He had a very good crooner's voice.

MEDIUM was back on form for me tonight, a very involving story of what appeared to be a killer doll. But this wasn't Talking Tina from THE TWILIGHT ZONE. Other forces were at work. As with the best episodes of the show, I didn't quite understand how all the pieces fit together until it was explained at the end. I liked it a lot.

Didn't quite understand how Devalos' daughter's story quite fit into the episode - seemed sort of like an afterthought to fill out the episode and leave us with a nice final image - but I'm sure others will have their own ideas about that storyline.

Why does Norton Antivirus 2007 already have 12 updates when it is only February

Anti-virus software updates are no reflection on the quality of the software, they are a testament to the dilligence of the software company. Everytime some crack-pot generates another new virus, Mr Norton (and McAfee, et al.) have to generate changes to their software downloads so all the lovely people in computerland can be protected from infection.

To make up for my bad movie experiance earlier, I went over to Virgin's $10 sale and bought 2 movies. This evening I watched JOE, which I loved because of the great acting, even though all the drug stuff really creeped me out. I would have little problem as an actor pretending I had to do it, but watching it gives me the willies.

I also bought Bladerunner just to have it.

I just can't imagine that anything like this would be released today.  Most of the songs have fairly sophisticated lyrics.  Some of the songs are "Hooray for Capt. Spaulding," "Napoleon Sailed the Ocean Blue," the title song, "Aba Daba Honeymoon" and Noel Coward's "Mad Dogs and Englishmen."
