Now playing on the iPod - wonderful music from what was meant to be volume two and three of music used in the Superman TV series. The albums were prepped and ready to be released (we did the first volume at VS), but there were some legal issues that didn't get ironed out - happily, I had the masters and still have them.
Has anyone else been having trouble with amazon being totally screwy lately. It's happening way too frequently - unable to log in (get an error message) - it's their glitch - they've been "updating" their system, but it's quite infuriating. You can't e-mail them about it, because they act like it's YOU who did something wrong and they tell you to change your password, etc. Do NOT do it - it's their problem and they get it working eventually. If you actually call them and you get a human being (not an automaton from India) then they admit it's their prob.
The German blintz on London was a terrible thing.
Congrats also to DR FJL on reaching 5,000 posts....as many posts as Dr T has fingers!
Anyone else sign up for their free D*ve deoderant sample? I did! I can't wait for everyone to see how soft and smooth my armpits will be.
Hmmmm.....there used to be an income point below which you got a total refund of your Federal Income Tax deductions.
Now - if you make $15, you owe $1 in Federal Income Tax. Even with ALL of my deductions and my LOWER income & retirement pay....I had to give the US Government $353. This is MORE than I paid when I earned much more and was working full time. >:(
A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR MICHAEL SHAYNE
HAVE A VERY HEALTHY YEAR MICHAEL
A Happy, Happy, Happy (that's three Happys) Birthday to DR Michael Shayne!!
Happy Birthday Michael Shayne!!
Good Morning, Cil.
Wow, almost to Page 3 at 7:45!
Perhaps it will be a record day in honor of Mr. Shayne, the keeper of the Bruce Kimmel archives.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MICHAEL SHAYNE (NOT THE DETECTIVE)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR MICHAEL SHAYNE!!
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MICHAEL SHAYNE!!!
Good morning, all! This is a relatively quiet day: I have a date at 11:30 with the folk from Rodgers & Hammerstein about some work, and I have reports to write as well as a weekly letter to the head of the foundation with the recording project. That's more than enough for the day!

Happiest of happy birthdays and salutations to DR MICHAEL SHAYNE - and congrats on the Filichia bouquet!
Page 3 before 9 AM EST.
It must be somebody special's birthday.
Happy happy birthday to Michael S!
Happy Happy Birthday, DR Michael Shayne!
Re the Filichia column and Micahel Shayne's letter to him - The only other Broadway flop play I can think of that had more than one screen life would be ALFIE, which was the subject of a BK trivia question (truly a major honor!!!) and also two movies.
When you comin' back, Shayne?
Come pick up your birthday wishes!

Edi - maybe you missed my question, since it ended up at the very botom of a page, but are you planning to see SISTER ACT while it's at the Alliance in Atlanta?
DR MATTH - since I can't afford the DD Set....what exactly does Ray A. say about the costuming in CAPRICE? They must have known it was WRONG WRONG WRONG for D. Day at that point in her life.....
And that previous post put me at 4000. Only 1000 or so behind FJL

Also of interest, although I can't link to it is in this week's (dated February 5) issue of Newsweek on Page 18 (The Periscope) is a short interview with Peter Miller, Edi's partner at Willow Pond Films and co-creator of the Sacco and Vanzetti documentary.
Thanks for the info, DR MATTH - my guess was that they were MODESTY BLAISE inspired as well.
Three sets of clothes!!! I just can't imagine that Doris would think she looked fine in those crazy rags....but who am I?
DR JRand, have you ever seen pics or clip of the LUCY IN LONDON (http://www.geocities.com/lucilleballspecial_lucyinlondon/LucyInLondonPhotographs.html) TV special? What do you think of the mod togs that Lucy dons in that?
...togs?--is that a word?
Not self employed, DR BEN...thanks. Just a struggling strip mall psychic.
That was me with the tax thoughts, JRand.
But having my thought process being confused with Ben's is a high compliment to me indeed!

Question for BK:
Have you ever designed for the stage? Costumes, lights or scenery? When and where?
And who are some of your favorite designers?
BK-my question would be, what is the best theatre restoration you have seen?
And what restored theatre has the most successful programming, in your opinion? The type that makes it a destination point, that would draw people from a large radius because it was unique, or it had some alluring identity?
My first question for ASK BK day... who are the most beautiful female celebrity and the handsomest male celebrity you have ever encountered?
Now if only we had some orders...
Our local Jewish deli stopped serving blintzes, bolstering BK's theory that the blintz has fallen out of favor. I used to love them. Adrianna, it's kind of like a burrito filled with cottage cheese and fruit! Yummy!
Just when I thought things were going well at the office I get a phone call that someone complained because I worked at home one day and then the next day said I got a good deal at the store closing. Can you believe this crap. I went on my lunch hour and my time sheet reflected that. 2 people called my boss to complain about this.
I made some calls about office rents today, it's cheaper than I thought. I'm back on the opening in August plan
And yet,.... I sense a stirring, an aura, a forcefield...... there just may be another Aquarian celebration here soon........yes, very soon.........
Yes.....the TIME IS NIGH! ......it isn't quite here yet, but it is definitely NIGH !!
More will probably be revealed in tomorrow's notes. :)
People - maybe Pick a Little Talk a Little was more truthful than we know. ;D
Hmm, I feel those stirrings also. All will be revealed tomorrow at 12:01 am (or whenever BK puts up those notes which is actually 3:01 am NY time).
I don't think I have anything to say today.

I’ve got to go now, Sherlock is waiting to play with a friend
Won't that be in Friday's notes?
I could be shameless and split up a post into bitty parts,......but I'll let someone else roll us onto a new page. (No, not senator whats-his-name!)

The best movie theater restoration I've seen is, hands down, the El Capitan here in LA.
I don't believe I've had a proper blintz since 1989.
History should honor what was and show respect for those who were forced to use a separate section of the theater.
DR George:
I have seen every episode of DIRT so if you have any questions about the show or characters, I'll be glad to try to answer them for you.
Why not add a tax to the sale of incandescents for anyone who wants an incandescent?
Also, we have a pair of tickets (5th row center) for the matinee on Feb. 24 that we won't be able to use, and if you're interested in that kind of thing, you can have them gratis - we just don't want the seats to go to waste, and when it comes to Atlanta, you're the first person I think of these days, of course.
Are there any "Raintree County" (the movie) fans in this forum?
If so...there is some phenomenal news. After many years, and despite numerous LP and CD incarnations of the original score (or, what was allowed to be released from the original score), Film Score Monthly has announced the complete original score -- remastered from original elements -- and including the main title song as sung by Nat King Cole:
I don't know if I've ever had an actual blintz. I wonder if I can get one somewhere today. :)

"Nearly three decades after California cracked down on rising crime rates with tougher sentencing laws, Californians are beginning to realize the downside of what many experts say has been one of the most poorly planned prison expansions in the country. A recent Justice Policy Institute study states that California leads the nation in drug offender imprisonment with a rate of 115 per 100,000 (the national average is 44 per 100,000).der Brucer
…
By the year 2000, there were 458,131 drug offenders incarcerated in America's prisons and jails – approximately the size of the entire US prison and jail population of 1980. This means that nearly one in four (23.7%) prisoners in America is incarcerated for a non-violent drug offense. Contrary to the public perception that the incarceration of violent offenders has driven America's prison growth the major group responsible for the overcrowding of California's prisons is non-violent drug offenders.
What movie is this from?
I worked with him in 1987, not too long before he died.
Nope, it will be revealed in tomorrow's notes. It's not what you might be thinking. MusicGuy and I are on the the same plane (astral not air) and we know whereof we speak ;)
What movie is this from?
That score was by Johnny Green! I worked with him in 1987, not too long before he died. I dearly loved him.

Quick, in which movie does that line appear? Bonus, who speaks that line? Another bonus, to whom is the character referring?
Thanks. I just don't know what to ask.
Here's one...including last night's, how many episodes have there been?
"B-Girls With A Yen"?
I knew the answer to THE BOYS IN THE BAND question and was too late getting here. Darn! :(Well, I gave you time - I had to find a hardcopy of the play and find the damn quote!
My Godson, Quinn, and his new helper dog, Kona, from the "coffee litter"! (Her sisters are Mocha and Latte.)
The sound clips for The Brain have been fixed (she imported them incorrectly) - you may have to empty your cache, but now no one should sound like they have a lisp when they're singing. There will also be more photos up later today. And you can now also see the lyrics as well as download them.
Now if only we had some orders...
And things at the sale were cheap, cheap, cheap
;D
I have a feeling you will be keeping your private life very private at work from now on.
Which issue was the subject of one the few social protests in which I participated in the 50s. The only movie theatre in Annapolis was requiring our only Black classmate to sit in the balcony - the earlier Annapolic classes, who also had a few tokens, did not challenge the policy - we did - and won. (A threat of a boycott by an establishment's main clientele is very potent.)

The other day when we were discussing breakfast foods, I mentioned my blueberry crepes. They sound a lot like blintzes - a thin pancake filled with a cream cheese/sour cream mixture, rolled up, baked, then topped with blueberry syrup laced with Curacao.
Ok, confession and feel stupid time. I attempted to catch up on spreading holiday cheer by sending the adobe files of the recipes in my cookbook to several people who I had addresses for and who I thought may enjoy them. (If it's clear you don't ever cook...I didn't send you one)
If you didn't get one, don't feel bad. It turns out I must not have done something right with the software on that computer because many, but not all, of the disks were blank! I have discovered the adobe files aren't that big and can be emailed.
SO, if you got a blank CD and want the files let me know. If you didn't get a CD and want the files, let me know. I'm happy to share them via email.
While similar, it needs the second cheese to taste like a blintz.
Sherlock at six months old.
Maybe not worth much unless the musical some day becomes a hit somewhere, but it's certainly unusual. :)
Is anyone else missing Edi’s photo of Quinn and Kona?
I want to know much, much more about this working with him.
Is this near?
The Salal Cafe
Three forks: Good
- Location: 634 Water St., Port Townsend, 360-385-6532.
- Food: Good. Breakfast choices include eggs, burritos and blintzes. Lunch offerings include sandwiches and homemade pastas. Plenty for meat eaters and vegetarians alike.

Actually, I don't think anyone has commented on the audio clips, which now sound great - go listen again.
Edi - I don't know that you'd necessarily even get face value for the tickets, since I assume people that want to see the show can get tix at the box office. However, we'd LOVE to make a donation. Can we send you the check, and what is name of the charity to make the check out to? Or is there a site where we can donate online and have it credited to this particular event?
But have you ever had a blini?
This might be the last photo of him sitting on the step, I had to squeeze him in there. ;D
Speaking of Eva Marie Saint, I did an imdb look-up and was amazed at how much work she's gotten in recent years. I often think how there aren't many good roles for the over-50 crowd, but she's found a lot of work. And good for her, too!
...the Continental Baths - i hear it was a wonderful place, even besides its intended purpose.
A wonderful birthday to you Michael Shayne!!! Have a fantastic day!!

..........And, a very Happy Birthday to DR Michael S. !!
I hadn't been aware of just how many of us splendid, unique, and beautiful Aquarians there were here in the Living Room. I see DR Ben is, and DR Edi is, and Obviously DR Michael S. . I wonder which other DRs here are avowed Aquarians?? Come on now, it's 2007.... you don't have to stay in the closet!

Edi - Just made my donation online, but wasn't clear where to put the "Absentee Buddy: Quinn" notation, so I just typed it in the comments box.
he's back in the USA. Did he run out of boys to play with in Barain?
Ron, I thought Lukas was totally out of line and out of control in his response to you.
eBay does it again - remember the other day when I asked about songs that had been made from commercial jingles - and I mentioned It Won't Hurt To Try It, which my pal Michael Burns had recorded? I have that 45 somewhere, but who knows where - so I got a copy on eBay for 1.00 - sung by - wait for it - Jim Nabors. Just played it - it's really pretty, very Burt Bacharach-sounding, with a nice chart by Al Capps.
Did the cusp runneth over?

I went to see Epic Movie with a friend at the Grove today because we love and have seen all the movies they made fun of. We left half and hour into the movie because it was lewd, stupid, and worst of all not funny.
We then procedded to sit at lunch and make our own jokes up about the movies which were loads funnier.
Time for THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE and then THE MATING SEASON!!!

Dear Reader Jane:
Thank you ever so much and one day our paths will cross at the right time.
I love THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE. I believe it was the first time I saw Ethel Barrymore.

. I had never heard of SMA until 5 years ago, when we found out that Quinn had it, but this is a disease I think everyone should know about:
SMA is the #1 genetic cause of infant death.
SMA is carried by 1 in every 40 people, or 7 million potental parents.
(Quinn's parents were both carriers but weren't tested for this.)
SMA affects 1 in every 6,000 births.
SMA causes dramatic loss of strength and in the worst cases, the loss of ability to swallow and breathe. The mind remains unaffected, while the muscles waste away.
http://www.fightsma.org/index.php?fam_atlanta
I'm looking forward to the event---it keeps growing every year!
Thanks so much!
DR Edi -- I was very touched by your picture of Quinn & Kona, and surprised by the similarity of SMA to a disease that my neice has. It is called A-T , and is an abbreviation for Ataxia-telangexstasia (sp?) .
Sherlock at six months old.OHHHHH He is adorable
This might be the last photo of him sitting on the step, I had to squeeze him in there. ;D
My what a big water dish he has
I ate a blintz once. It was really gross.
Edi-GOOD VIBES FOR A SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISER! There are two sites to choose from to make a donation. Is one better than the other?
Here's a happy story, though. After finding out that both of Quinn's parents carried the SMA gene, they were afraid to have another child. Through the miracles of science, they were able to use invitrofertilization on eggs that were tested beforehand that were SMA free. This is a very painful process and they underwent it 3 times. They were down to their last frozen egg but didn't give up. Here she is: a healthy, beautiful little girl named Sydney with her parents!
This is our Atlanta fundraiser site:
