Well, you've read the notes, you were as confused by the notes as I was, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're very interested in the Scorpido, which they think is a new dish at Taco Bell.

I can tell this cd has been checked out a few times... It is like it is skipping from time to tiem in the song.

Len Cariou has an incredible voice!

One of my favorite foreign songs (and I'll admit that I mainly like it because it was recorded by The Manhattan Transfer with Laurel Massé doing the solo) is Je Voulais (Te Dire Que Je T'Attends).

Don't you hate it when that happens??  When you turn it in, you should give it to someone and tell them.  At the Service Center where I work, we have a CD grinder that (if a CD has scratches that are NOT on the label side) can grind down the underside enough to take out most scratches.  It cost a lot of money, but it totally works.

All the Abba songs were written in English first; even "Waterloo" which had to be changed to Swedish to be eliglible for Sweden's initial competition for the Eurovision Song Festival.

I am so glad people have mention Jaques Brel I love his song as well, but a side not he is not French, but he is from Belgium

A favorite of mine is Le Ciel est Bleu.

Too bad DR Francois doesn't post today I am sure he can give us a long list.

I also like the original French lyrics to I Dreamed a Drean from Les Miz. If you do a literally translation of the lyrics they are a lot more meaningful for the character.

Good morning, all!  To paraphrase the original German title of ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT,Im Ohio nichts Neues; not a word on the Ohio front.  I shall proceed with my usual day - today I'm mixing JOSEPH & THE DREAMCOAT for Rodgers & Hammerstein - keeping my cellphone near me.

DearReaderLaura, the only DR to send me fudge is my beloved Nursie, but if we were ever to have a fudge judging contest, I couldn't vote till I had sampled yours . . .

I love Brel's songs, and while he's Belgian, his songs are mainly in French as opposed to Flemish - I love the collision of the two languages in "Marieke," and I like the way the best songs in JACQUES BREL IS ALIVE AND WELL . . . capture the sounds of the original language in English, often when the translation itself is very free.  The biggest insult to the French original is Rod McKuen's "Seasons in the Sun," which alters both the tne of the original as well as its musical structure.

I also like Volare, Love Is Blue, and Never on Sunday.

Feliz navidad

which I believe was translated to:

Phylicia Rashad

Or at least it did on the local bar scene :)

The only foreign language I know reasonably fluently is Hebrew, so my favorite songs for the TOD are the Hebrew songs

"Next Year" ("Bashana Haba-a") by Hedva and David (not to be confused with Harry and David),

and the previously discussed "Hallelujah," for which Steve and Eydie did a ubiquitous American version many years ago.

Last night for dinner I ate Chinese food for the first time since I had my attack of the heart and I wound up having a series of bizarre dreams.  In one segment that I clearly remember, I was at a Caribbean seaside resort, taking advantage of a free three day stay provided by an insurance company that was trying to sell me a life insurance policy.  I decided to skip a sales seminar and sit on the beach and read.  However, the insurance people sent a little native boy who was schooled in sales talk to interrupt my beach time.  The little boy went into a sales pitch in which, in order to illustrate the risks in life, he allowed himself to be stung and bit by a variety of insects and bugs.  I stared in horror as he shook a jar of spiders, millipedes and wasps (no scorpidos, though) onto his arms and legs and started talking about rates and premiums.  I didn't exactly wake up screaming, but I was plenty disturbed I can tell you.

There was a Japanese song that was a hit in the sixties that they just arbitrarily entitled Sukyaki, which, of course, was not it's real name but one of the few Japanese words Americans knew.  I guess it sounded better than Won Ton.

Our school structure is failing, we need more law enforcement officers, the sewers are inadequate....BUT....

We are GIVING tax dollars to Mr Irsay and his PRIVATE BUSINESS to operate a sports team and BUILD a stadium....TAX DOLLARS in addition to the "temporary" entertainment/restaurant tax that was placed on Marion County a dozen years ago to pay for the Super (RCA) Dome that they will soon abandon.

My prediction - the Colts will Bolt Indy for a larger and more metropolitan city before 2015!

I'm a day late in piping in on the discussion, bit I am in the pro-2001 ASO camp.  I recall seeing it's TV broadcast debut and thinking that it was okay.  But years later I got to see it on a big, big movie theatre screen in a re-release and was able to really appreciate the spectacle that it was made to be.

What has somewhat soured me on 2001 over the years has been subsequently reading Clarke's novel and numerous sequels, which over-explain the original concepts and take away from the cosmic grandeur of the film.

The score to ANYTHING GOES has been tampered with repeatedly since it became a hit in the 1930s. I grew up with the off-Broadway recording with Hal Linden and Eileen Rodgers (which added other tunes to the original's score), and that's forever my favorite.

The 1987 Lincoln Center revival added different Porter tunes and rearranged others, but the Broadway cast recording is undeniably exciting to listen to. I also like the London version of the same update with the marvelous Howard McGillan still onboard as Billy and Elaine Page as Reno.

The Kim Criswell recording that DR George alluded to contains just the original score, not the additions from other Porter musicals, and it's valuable for that reason. But you're not likely to ever see that version of ANYTHING GOES ever performed.

Isn't the 1987 revival the "official" version of the show now? The last two times I saw it in theaters around here, that's the version that was used.

I've had two calls in the past 10 minutes, one from my brother Randy and one from his beautiful wife: my dad has asked to be taken to hospital.  As soon as I know the state of things from the medical point of view, I'll make a determination on returning to Ohio.  I hope it's not so severe that I can hold off untill at least the end of the week to finish my IRS date with my accountant, but that can be postponed if necessary.

I'm sure the Macbeths will weigh in shortly: she loves to spread bad tidings.

I'm not a football fan at all, but I had to feel happy for Peyton Manning after so many Super Bowl lost chances in years past to get his chance finally and make the most of it.

And I especially loved his humility in acknowledging that it was a team effort and not his win alone. He has always impressed me as a very decent person.

The discussion of the A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC film. So many good elements for such a puny result. Bad decisions were made all around: dropping many of the best songs, using the same voice dubber for three different female characters, etc.

And yet, without that movie, we wouldn't have that absolutely marvelous new version of "The Glamorous Life" which I prefer ten thousand times over the original stage version. We wouldn't have Diana Rigg's unforgettably poignant Charlotte, my favorite performance in the movie. And we wouldn't have Len Cariou or Laurence Guittard's performances of their original roles (even though they lost some of their music along the way).

So, it's a very mixed bag for me, but I'm glad I have the movie (pan and scanned as it is) on videotape.

Foreign language songs. I guess it would have to be LES MIZ's songs. It's the only pop opera that I really like, so that gives it the title for me without any competition.

I do like "Volare" in its original language. Didn't Petula Clark sing it half in English and half in Italian? SOmeone did that I had on an 8-track tape (remember those?).

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I allowed myself to sleep in for a bit.  Alas, the radiator had another bout of knock-knock-knocking last night which woke me up, but I feel rested and non-sleep-deprived, so...

And while lounging in bed this morning, I came up with an easier and less "dismantling" way to get my shelves set up.  It was one of those "DOH!" moments.  I was originally going to dismantle one set of shelves completely, then move the new set in its place.  But then I realized that I could just slide the old shelf forward, place the new one in its old place and then just transfer the contents of the shelves from one to the other.  -And I won't have to worry about trying to find free floor space to place the CDs and books during the "transfer".

And like bk , DR George, and others here on HHW, I just have to way too much stuff.  And I must whittle down my belongings.  -And like other DRs, I've been going through this process for years now.  So, maybe we should all form a pact of sorts, or even have a contest to see which Hainsie/Kimlet can de-stuffify first.

I watched the Superbowl last night. Not really too exciting a game. But my brother-in-law organizes a pool, which makes it more exciting. Everyone ends up cheering for the scores they have at the end of each quarter.  All i have to say is why couldn't the colts have tried to scrore a touchdown in the last minute. They could have scored if they had tried. But no, they just kept downing the ball. They owe me $50! :)

As for the commercials, my little niece megan was transfixed by the beer commercial with the dogs. She loved it.

The one with the 2 guys biting the hotdog/sausage and then kissing was so silly. And then they were so embarrassed that they pulled off their chest hair!

There were a lot of animated coke commercials. And many budweiser commercials.  There was a funny one with a guy having a beard combover.

...And I also have to say that I'm almost in the mindset where the only belongings I have are the ones that are in my room.  Nothing in storage.  Nothing in the basement of my parents house.

And after doing some "math", I'm pretty sure that once I get all the new shelving set up here, I will still have a number of boxes of books, music, papers, etc., that are not "up and out".  -But at least stored neatly under my bed.  But it would be nice to get down just to the basics as it were.   -At least until I get my own place.  My own bigger apartment.  ;)

*DR elmore and I have a mutual friend/colleague who has one of the neatest, uncluttered NYC apartments I've ever seen.  And not really that big an apartment.  Roomy, but not "big".  Everything he owns is there.  And when it comes to his clothes, everything is one dresser and a small closet.  So, whenever he buys a new piece of clothing - t-shirt, jeans, coat, etc. - he gets rid of an "old" piece.

CBS debuts a new comedy tonight at 9:30 (RULES OF ENGAGEMENT), but I'm not interested in it at all. When THE CLASS finishes its first run episode order, OLD CHRISTINE is going to move into the 8:30 time period for awhile.

I was overall disappointed in the commercials last night.  The only one that I felt was funny and surprising was the Grand Theft Auto guy going nice in one of the Coke commercials.

And one last thought on de-cluttering...

I did a quick read through the new organizing book written by the guy on TLC's "Clean Sweep".  -I read it at Border's - it really was a quick read.  He does a nice job getting to and through the emotional attachments people have to their stuff, their belongings, their junk.

His number one rule - well, one of them at least - is "If you don't have to room to store it, then you need to get rid of it".  And another one is something along the lines of, "If you haven't used it in a certain amount of time, then you don't need it.".  -Of course, I'm paraphrasing.

I liked this one hint for decluttering your desk area and kitchen gadget drawers:

Place all the gadgets in a cardboard box on the floor by your desk, kitchen drawer.  As you need and use a particular item, take it out of the box, and place it out of the drawer.  Whatever is left in the box on the floor at the end of a month... ditch!

Then you basically do the same thing with cookbooks.... Place a Post-It note sticking out of a book when you use it... Any books that don't have a Post-It note sticking out of it after a year...  Etc., etc., etc.

I alsl had a wierd dream: DR Sandra and I were invited to be in a melodrama in LA. We were to play the Miller Brothers, who get hanged at the end. Also starring were Larry Raben and David Engel.

That was no dream - you HAVE been invited to be in a melodrama and you will be playing the Miller brothers and you will get hanged at the end.  It's called Plaid Hangings - I'm quite looking forward to it.

I'm glad the Colts won the game yesterday.

I'm not particularly impressed with the game, however.  It was lackluster and dull.

As far as MVP goes, I'd have given it to the Colt defensive player who made an interception and scored a touchdown.  THAT was the play that made the game for the Colts.

As they said when Manning was named, any number of players qualified.  That Manning played respectably was apparently enough to seal the deal for him.

He's a great quarterback, don't get me wrong.  He was just okay yesterday, though.

Rant of the day:

One of my co-workers is returning today from a three-week vacation.  Sadly, we learned at the last minute two weeks ago that her mother had died.  I attempted to send flowers on behalf of my work group, but I was too late to get anything done in time for the funeral.

A couple of my co-workers indicated they would just do something personal for her when she returned.

This morning, however, I ordered a basket of African violets be sent here and I instructed the card indicate it was from all of us (not by name, but by our group name).

I let others know what I'd done and told them it was their choice whether to participate or not...that I would have done it alone anyway.

A couple of folks thanked me and anted up.

One person, however, said, "Does she LIKE African violets?"  The tone was challenging.

I replied "I don't know.  I think it's the thought that matters."

I got a "look" and nothing more was said.

I say it here:  Some people can go straight to HELL!

Rant over.

The Topic of the Day

"Besame Mucho"
"Love Is Blue"
"Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" ("Quizas, Quizas, Quizas")
"The Girl From Ipanema" - And basically another Jobim title.

And that's about all I can come up with right now... I've been up for a few hours already, but haven't had any breakfast yet, so...  Time to eat.

There is no indication of speed dial anything.  I programmed a bunch of numbers....I just go into my address book, scroll to the name (like yours), highlight the number and press "Call".

I can dial my cell phone number.  I actually haven't set up a password for obtaining my calls, but I shouldn't need one to listen, I wouldn't think.  When I first got the number, I got a lot of voicemails I was able to listen to and clear.

YES!!! I certainly agree. I feel that way about books in general. I do cull--I have to, I just don't have the space--but I have many books and files that I haven't used in years, but they are still relevant to projects that I'm currently working on or could easily be given. A few years ago I was offered a writing assignment that was quite esoteric and would have been much, much more difficult if I hadn't had certain books already on hand. I don't think that the de-clutter "pros" understand the concept of a professional library.

More on clutter: I watched a PBS program on decluttering and it had one or two good ideas. Clearly, the woman giving it had had serious clutter problems and maybe how to get rid of things didn't come easily to her. Overall, I didn't feel it helped me much.

I really think that some people are minimalists and some of us are not. I have a friend who tosses something every time she buys something new. She was taught this by her mother and is rather obsessive about it. Worse, she expects her husband to do the same. I grew up in a frugal family and can't do that.

I think that it helps to look at what it's costing you in $$$, such as a storage locker. Every time you can reduce your monthly expenses, such as DR GEORGE is doing, you're ahead. After all, you can now afford to BUY MORE STUFF!!! :)  Seriously, due to the high cost of housing these days I can't afford the large house that I was planning on some years ago, so that is a motivator. On the other hand, why not keep something you might need or simply enjoy if you have the space?

As for the "If you haven't used it for a year.." thing, well, that just doesn't work in my life. If we have a warm winter am I to toss my winter coats and cold-weather gear? Hardly. I think that what you keep and what you toss just depends very much on your lifestyle. One day I'll tell you all about the REALLY HUGE MISTAKE  I made long ago when I threw out something that I REALLY, REALLY REGRET. But not now.

I have to laugh and laugh again at the smokers who have still been standing outside our building so they can have their ciggy breaks.  Our building strictly enforces where these people can gather, and it's on a wall that is directly hit by a blasting wind tunnel, which is all the worse in these temperatures.

I was overall disappointed in the commercials last night.  The only one that I felt was funny and surprising was the Grand Theft Auto guy going nice in one of the Coke commercials.

There was one commercial that had everybody at the party laughing. It was for budweiser. IT had a young couple driving. And there was a hitchhiker standing in the road with a beer and an ax.

The boyfriend wanted to stop and the girl was like, "but he had an ax". And the boyfriend was like, "but he had a budweiser!"

So the boyfriend opens the window and looks at the hitchhiker and says "so what's with the ax?" and the guy says "oh it's a bottle opener". So the boyfriend lets him in.

Then the same thing happens with a chainsaw hitchhiker.

One more word (from me) on clutter:
I do say that if I'm going to keep something it must be organized. What's the point of keeping something if you can't find it when you need it? I find that most annoying. "I know it's in the house. I just don't know WHERE." I've said that a few times.

And I am very glad I did all that decluttering over the past few years. It's not done, but I threw out TONS and I'm really glad I did it. So, GEORGE, you'll probably be glad you did it too!

Unfortunately, every time I do a MAJOR CULL I throw out something I later regret. I just accept that now.

Someone is wearing some hideously allergy inducing scent this morning...either a powder or a perfume.

I may have to put my foot down and make a point of leaving work ILL because of it.

As someone with allergies, you have not only my sympathy but my support about making a point about it. I do wish women would refrain from wearing loads of strong perfume (I've never been around a man who wore obnoxious scent), especially in public places. I was at the Kennedy Center one evening when someone nearby was wearing something that bothered me. It really distracted from the performance.

I don't think that many people are aware that colognes and perfumes are made from weeds because they are both cheap and plentiful. These are the same weeds that cause an array of allergic reactions. So that person who complains bitterly about the ragweed--or pollen in general-- is actually introducing more of the same into the environment by wearing scent.

In coming years this could become an issue like smoking, since more and more people are suffering from allergies.

Topic of the Day:  a few years ago, I got a CD called Thank You for the Music (http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/pid/6665060/a/Thank+You+For+The+Music.htm) by Deborah Boily.  It's a live CD of her cabaret act and it's very good.  Anyway, she does this French medley and one of the songs is called "Comme D’Habitude," which means "As Usual."  She tells the story on the CD that when she first heard the song, the music sounded really familiar.  It turns out that Paul Anka also heard the song and wrote English lyrics to it and called it "My Way."  However his lyrics have nothing to do with the original French lyrics.  She she translated it herself and recorded it.  Here are the lyrics that she sings, translated from the French:

Each day, when I awake
You lay asleep as usual
Afraid you might be cold
I raise the sheet as usual
And though I hesitate
I touch your cheek as usual
But you, you turn away
From me, as usual

So then I quickly dress
And leave the room as usual
Alone, I have my tea
I’m running late as usual
I leave without a sound
It’s cold outside as usual
So cold, so wet
And I am numb as usual

Yes, every day and all day long
I act as if there’s nothing wrong
As usual I always smile
I even laugh and play the clown
As usual my life goes on and on as usual

Oh and during the Super Bowl there were plenty of promos for Survivor starting Thursday and TAR allstars (starting 2 weeks from last night). I cannot wait. Especially for TAR.

Anyone else excited?

I'm excited for TAR, especially since it should start at 8:00 on the dot, barring the odd overtime basketball game.  No more setting TIVO to cover two and a half hours.

You will be pleased to know that California is one of only four states in which folks with my model phone cannot retrieve their voicemail EXCEPT via their cell phones.

My voice mail box is FULL.

AND....the CLINCHER....Cingular has said they cannot figure out what to tell me in regards to how to correct the problem with dialing my voice mail.  It "seems" it's IMPOSSIBLE to reprogram the number "1" as anything.  Only numbers "2" through "9" can be set to represent a number (i.e., for "speed dial" purposes).  And...since "1" cannot be programmed to be anything other than voice mail, there are no instructions on how to UNprogram "1" and reset it to voice mail.

I even tried "master reset", knowing I'd probably have to redo my address book.

But....it didn't do the trick, and it didn't mess anything up.

Hey everyone.  Finally some time to catch up with some posting here at HHW.  Nothing much is new here from Area of Bay in CA.  Pippin goes up in a week or so, complete with the new arrangements, lyrics, an actual first act Finale and a new ending.  The arrangements are ok, some of the lyrics are not superior to their original, blah blah....

Next up is Jekyll and Hyde complete with a LACK of pop rhythms and sounding a bit Phantom-esque.  It always bugged me that somgs like "Someone Like You", "This Is The Moment" etc, really interupt the flow of the show with their style.  We'll see how it goes.

Other than that, it's good to be back (says Norma D)

All rioting was confined indoors because of sub-zero temps.  But there is a parade downtown in about an hour which may be the cause of some carrying-on.  And the Capital Improvement Board is figuring out a way to tax it.  8)

Sheesh, talk about work schedules.

What with erratic, and long, work hours, plus the care and feeding of der Brucer, I've been errant and truant in these parts.  And it doesn't end with today, because I've been called in to fill in until closing this evening.  This was scheduled to be a day off.  I'll day off on Saturday, instead.

Take yesterday, for instance.  Superbowl Sunday, I get pegged for the closing shift.  Before the game, there's business.  After the game starts, everything is quiet.  Very quiet.  It's just me, Stacy as our front end manager, and Debbie.  Debbie leaves at nine, so it's just the two of us at the front of the store.

We're to close the doors at ten, normal Sunday schedule.  So, ten minutes before ten, a couple of big, beefy guys saunter in, one talking on his cell phone the entire time, casing the joint, the other referring to me as "Mister Boss Man" when I greet him.  Oh, yeah, they're cool.  The other guy buys a bottle of water, they saunter out when they realize they've been watched the entire time and that they aren't going to be able to pull anything.  They've been recorded by the video cams, they don't even think about that.

Two minutes before closing, two other guys, separate from each other, come dashing in for last minute purchases.

Stacy has already annouced that the store will be closing in ten minutes, five minutes.  She's locked the doors, announced that the store is closed.  I head to the men's room for a quick dump (man, those chili leftovers were tasty but next time I'm not making it with beans), and on my way I find yet ONE MORE CUSTOMER!!!

With a FULL CART!!!

Yep, he'd heard the time warnings, but he'd been given a check for two hundred and fifty by his girlfriend and needed to fill his cart with that much groceries before he could leave.

So of course I headed back to my register, to check him out (he wasn't my type, nowhere near) and he's got short of the amount, but he's within the fifty dollar cash back amount.

But the computer won't accept the check.  Doesn't recognize the account, will not allow any cash back, nada.

Stacy goes through the procedure, comes up with the same result.  He gets his girlfriend on the phone, she's just telling him to buy more, but the check isn't going to clear, and since it's her check, not his, he doesn't have the correct driver's licence to verify the check.

They don't get the groceries.  Boo-hoo.   He leaves in a huff.  Too bad.

This leaves me with less than an hour to get everything that is in the cart back on the shelves, some of the stuff needing to get back on the shelves RIGHT NOW because it's refridgerated goods and needs to get back in the cool chests.  Good thing I know the store as well as I do, and bag like items together, because I got everything back on the shelves in something like forty minutes, not bad for a cart as full as his was.

So, tonight I get to close again.  Lots of fun.  Hopefully it will be quieter than last night.

But now I'm wondering about how my schedule is being worked.  I closed on Thanksgiving.  I closed on Christmas Eve.  I closed on New Years Eve.  And now I've closed on Superbowl Sunday.

It's almost like management wants to have a guy at the registers on holiday closings.  Like, maybe, I'm just a little more imposing than the other cashiers could be, just because I'm six foot two and male.  Instead of female.

It makes sense to me.  No reason for management not to take advantage of their staff, for whatever reason.

And that's why I've been E&T.

Life in Ohio is one state of anxiety!  I feel like I'm on a roller coaster and I don't like it.  Right now, things look good after the panic of yesterday.

My dad's in hospital but his lungs look okay from the x-ray, he's on IV and loooking much better, and I guess my stress level can calm down.  I may be able to accomplish what I have already scheduled here before I go, I hope, and I owe a lot of it to those HHW vibes and such wonderful caring people.

I think Judi Dench does wonderfully as Desiree on her A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC cast album, but the actor playing Hernrick is so unbearably awful that I don't end up listening much to that recording.

I agree that the two "Glamorous Life" songs don't pair well together nor do I like "My Husband the Pig" and "In Praise of Women" paired together. "In Praise of Women" is one of my favorite songs in the score.

Some foriegn recordings that I particularly enjoy:

The Spanish cast recording of Mamma Mia which is quite fun
The German cast recordings of Sunset Blvd and The Phantom of the Opera

Also, Sarah Brightman's recordings of "Piano" - the Italian version of "Memory" and "Guardami" the Italian version of "With One Look" - far superior to their orignals, IMHO.

DRs MBarnum and JRand your TAR comments made me laugh. I really don't like that family!!!!!!!!! ;)

I like survivor a lot (although not as much as TAR). But it's hard to get too excited until the season starts and we meet the teams. But for TAR allstars i already know the teams and know which ones i like. So it's easier to be excited (plus TAR is my favorite reality show).

I wonder how many fights we will have on HHW. I will say for the record now i am cheering for rob and amber and the beauty queens. But i may also cheer for danielle and eric since i don't know them as a team yet.

I will count on DR MBarnum cheering for 2 of my least favorite teams: dave and mary and teri and ian.  Oh and i'm sure you'll love joyce and uchenna too!

I started my afternoon of viewing with last Friday's LAW & ORDER which featured an obnoxiously smug Ann Coulter-like character in one of the main parts. This made it a very difficult episode to sit through. Not only that, the ending one could see coming a mile away. My, how L&O has faded from its glory days of 8-10 years ago.

DR MattH, i know that you said this wasn't appealing to you (or something like that, perhaps you said you did not think it would be appealing to others watching), but i sort of like it.

Oh DR MBarnum re: TAR allstars. At least you probably won't hate my teams too much this year. Since you'll have the Guidos to hate (assuming they play the same style of game as season 1).

I will be surprised if joyce and uchenna go till the end though this time. I did not think they were the strongest team in their season. I have nothing against them. They seem nice enough (as do dave and mary). I just prefer strong teams (although that said J & U are much stronger than dave and mary).

DR MattH, i know that you said this wasn't appealing to you (or something like that, perhaps you said you did not think it would be appealing to others watching), but i sort of like it.

I know the show is basically about the comedy show. But i just really like harriet and matt. And i don't mind seeing a show focusing on them (and danny and amanda peet's character).

I didn't find it very involving, no. Separately, I like these characters, but the constant throwing together of actors who for me have NO chemistry at all together gets to be tiresome.

And since the ratings now are half of what they were at the beginning of the season, it looks like a lot of people have become disinterested in it.

I'll continue watching; I've stayed with it this long, but I'm certainly not going to invest any emotional furvor into the show. I am pretty sure it won't be back for another season next year.

Also, Sarah Brightman's recordings of "Piano" - the Italian version of "Memory" and "Guardami" the Italian version of "With One Look" - far superior to their orignals, IMHO.

I love these versions, too.  She also recorded an Italian version of "My Heart Will Go On" (the theme from "Titanic") that I really like.

Rant over.

Man you can say that again!!!!!

Do you have a warranty on the phone? You could accidentally run over it with the car and get a new one...I didn't say that did I? :o

I do say that if I'm going to keep something it must be organized. What's the point of keeping something if you can't find it when you need it? I find that most annoying. "I know it's in the house. I just don't know WHERE." I've said that a few times.

I always amazed co-workers by keeping a suite of offices piled floor to ceiling with stuff - and I never failed finding what I was looking foor. The co-worker neatniks who were always complaining about my "messes" were always coming to me for copies of things they had tossed!

The workforce got quite a lesson in Navy "vocabulary" when some ditz decided to "strighten up" my office while I was on a trip.

This site tells you how safe your perfume is:

I am SOOOOOO P'O'ed at itunes!

I was working with a client today and he was sending me some music to import. To access his itunes, I had to give his password, and then I was supposed to have access.

Backtracking---I have not upgraded to the current itunes version 7 because I don't want to upgrade my OS, even though I already have the software, because I don't want to create a conflict with my editing program until after I'm finished with editing projects in progress (icluding The Brain). That has been fine so far; I just haven't been able to buy any more music from itunes so I've bought from Amazon.

BUT---when I divested or detached or whatever it is called from my client's computer I wanted to log back into my itunes from my own computer. To prove it was me, it wanted me to play one of the songs I had purchased. But when I tried to do this, it would not play it, it would only send me to the page to download itunes 7. It would not play any of the music.

So now I cannot play ANY of the music I have purchased in the past, including lots of music I downloaded to DJ my brother-in-law's wedding.

DAMN YOU Stephen Jobs!!!

Love is knowing exactly when to slam the door shut on someone's fingers.

I don't think it was love, but when I was in college, I was accompanying someone for an audition. We had been rehearsing "Corner of the Sky". To thank me, he took me to dinner, along with his friends who were in the car. I was in the backseat between two of them, and when we got there, we all got out. But the guy on the side I was exiting thought I was getting out on the other side so he slammed the car door behind him without looking, right after I put my hand on the car hood to pull myself out. (It was one of those cars that was hard to get out of if you were in the back seat.) He broke several bones in my hand and I didn't have to play a piano jury that quarter, which was so much of a relief that I realized I shouldn't even BE in music school.

When Greg and I listen to the Wonderful Guy CD and heard this song, he asked me if it made my hand hurt. LOL!

Sherlock really isn’t rough on his toys, I’m guessing his teeth are very strong, that or they don’t make toys like they used to.

We decided to go to Pet Country, the Grange pet store.  We purchased a few new nylabones, a couple of new stuffed squeaky toys, and a Tuffie’s Sea Creature http://www.edogtoy.com/retail/index.php , supposedly the world’s toughest dog toy.

Well... I got about 12 boxes of music and books unpacked over the past couple of hours.  The big task was rearranging the shelving system/units, and I got that done.  Alas, as I was shifting things around, I went from Plan A to Plan B... to Plan C... to Plan D... So...  I do have one "flow" issue, but I'm happy with the way things are set now, for now.

My classical piano rep is out of boxes for the first time in years.  As is my classical vocal rep.  It was a bit strange getting all that music out of the boxes, I actually thought I had more.  It's a nice library, but it's more manageable than I remembered.  All my show score and vocal selections are on the shelves.  And I even took my cookbooks out too!  -And one row of music reference books.

Alas, there are still four big boxes of music under the bed, and they may have to stay there.  We'll see.

CHICAGO on Blu-ray looked and sounded spectacular. Well, the musical numbers were spectacular in their sharpness and intense color (without the noise that often goes along with deeply saturated colors). And the lossless uncompressed soundtrack was splendid.

The scenes apart from musical numbers looked as drab and flat as they've always looked.

One of my friends started doing that about ten years ago when he got his CD jukebox stereo thingy.  He kept the CDs in the jukebox (it held about 150) and the covers went into a binder that had code numbers so you knew what to punch into the remote to play the desired disc.

Now he stores all his music as mp3 files on a PC that's specially designated as his music center.  I have no idea where he stores the actual CDs.

Edi - we at the Yeshivah of Flatbush weren't savvy (or impish) enough to go from Nod'dot to Yes-dey-do.

I do remember a teacher correcting students who thought the song was "Oh Tir-eh, oh Tir-eh" instead of "Od Tir-eh" - but that was an innocent error, it just sounded like "Oh tir-eh."  And someone in my sixth grade class thought they were shaving on the mir-pe-set ("they shave al hamirpeset").

I ended up going to Amoeba to do the trade stuff.  Sometimes you luck out with who does the trade and sometimes you don't.  I got a guy who's always been one of the worst for me, but I traded in a couple of Ozu DVDs because I've upgraded the transfers, and it turns out Ozu is his favorite director - we bonded, he told me he was a poet and wrote a poem based on Ozu's Floating Weeds, and I got the best trade deal I've ever gotten at Amoeba.  I got several DVDs, a few CDs, and have a lot of credit left.

DR Matthew - Good to see you again!  Are you doing the "new" version of Pippin?  Or is it something the creative team them came up with?  -I actually like the new ending, but I don't seem to recall that many lyric changes.  -And which Act 1 Finale are you using?  "Morning Glow"?

Hey Jose - good to see you again.  This version of Pippin is the new version of the show.  Newly re-done score, no more messy manuscript and a "Magic To Do" First Act Finale with a Majpr 9th chord at the end.  Seems like it was thrown together at the last minute.  It works, I guess.  <shrug>  The parts are all done on Finale and the piano/conductor score has WAY too many cued notes in the accompaniment.  So when you reduce it down to put it in a three ring binder, the cued notes are TINY.   It's still fun to do, of course.

What are you up to these days?

Six people on, two posts in the last hour.  What is wrong with this picture.  Will we never get to page seventeen?  If the WUSSBURGERS hadn't happened we probably would have entered the top ten today.

I don't recall an intermission in Pippin.

The cute little dog in the corner, Otto, turns one today!!!  We're off to obedience class.

A Scottie in obedience class? That's optimism.
Or does Otto take you to obedience class?

I'm sorry, BK. I just don't have anything to say. I don't even know why I'm awake.

And speaking of CDs...

Do any DRs keep their CDs in binders/sleeves?  Take them out of the jewel cases?

-I'm wondering if I should go that route eventually.

A woman that I work with has done that with her DVDs, but I'm not sure about her CDs.  She had over 3,000 video tapes and was running out of room (duh!), so she recorded some onto DVRs (not all, just the ones that were really special) and put them in boxes specifically made to hold 400 (I think) DVDs in one box.  She also got rid of ALL of her original cases (even ones with special packaging) and just had booklets and paperwork in sleeves with the discs.

And speaking of surprises, HEROES was loaded with them, too, though I have to admit I was kind of expecting Clair's father to turn out to be who it was.

I had NO IDEA that it was going to be who it was. ::)
