Later today, I'll be back at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts (I was just there on Friday), but this time I'll be working at the concessions counter.  Performing will be SOGO (http://www.studentorchestras.org/), which is the Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia.

Fortunately, I don't actually have to go into the house to watch/listen to the groups.  I'm sure that they'll be very good, but instrumental or orchestral music tends to bore me.  If anyone here loves it, I'm very happy for you.  But it's generally not something that I would choose to go to. ::)

Good morning, all!  Except for a dream in which I was shot while running from a demented Hindu with a pistol, I slept very well.  While the shooting took place in what I remember to be Trump Tower, the rest of my dreams took place in Ohio, I think.

Back to Toyland today.  We have to find a new office space and move by March 31, so this month will be crazier than I like.  I hop0e to be hme no later than 4 today; outside of the new SLINGS & ARROWS episode at 8, I have to finish more band parts: last night I finished the oboe and screwed up the clarinets.

I must admit I'm ready to go home.  It hasn't been easy to be away with the storm going on back home. Thankfully my cat sitter is crazy enough to go out on terrible weather to care for animals including mine.  And thankfully my neighbors decided to clear the snow out of my driveway.

I loved the movie SECONDS, too, as I've mentioned here before. I didn't know it was out on DVD. I remember telling friends about it after I saw it on TV, and how wonderful Rock Hudson was, and they just looked at me like I was ceazy.

Is the score available on its own?

DH Richard is off to Cincinnati for church and after while I'll meet him  and our DS Rob at the Univ of Cincinnati.  We'll have an early dinner together before Richard and I go to Music Hall for the Pops.  Guest artists tonight are Celtic Tenors Matthew Gilsenan, James Nelson, and Daryl Simpson and Celtic Woman Deirdre Shannon.  One unusual thing is that Tito Munoz is conducting, not Erich Kunzel.

DR Jennifer:

You expressed surprise yesterday that so many of tonight's shows were not repeats but were fresh episode.

It's really not so hard to understand. Twice in the last month and a half, the Sunday night schedule has been put in limbo by big events: the Super Bowl in late January, and the Oscars in late February. The shows featuring new episodes tonight were not broadcasting new episodes during those special events, so they have one or two "extra" episodes that the networks can play now.

Very easy to understand.

The Dannys get solo moments tonight on GREASE, and I'm really looking forward to watching them perform. The four that are left are definitely the strongest performers and the most appealing ones, too, so it should be an entertaining hour.

As for which Sandy will be leaving, I really have no clue.

Dogs stolen at gunpoint recovered
Police help reunite four out of five Yorkshire terriers with L.A. family
The Associated Press
Updated: 10:06 a.m. ET March 4, 2007
LOS ANGELES - Four purebred Yorkshire terriers stolen at gunpoint during a home invasion robbery more than a week ago were returned to their owners after a man turned himself in to police.

Three puppies, valued at $2,500 each, and a full-grown family pet named Tan-ja were reunited with their owners at the Wilshire Division police station Saturday night.

One puppy remained missing, police said.

Family members hugged and kissed the panting pups and left the police station with the dogs in their arms.

The animals were recovered after Ryan Betton, 19, of Los Angeles, surrendered to police Friday night, Detective Luis Corona said.

He was booked for investigation of residential robbery, police said.

A videotape of the robbery that aired on local television brought in many tips, including telephone calls that sent police to the home of Betton’s father, Corona said.

“When the son came home, he confronted the son and that led to the son being brought in to the station to turn himself in,” Corona said.

A second man was being sought.

Likely intent to give dogs as gifts
The puppies had been advertised for sale in a newspaper and two men posing as buyers made an appointment to see them on Feb. 23. When a family member opened the door, one of the men pulled a gun. The men ordered the family of four to lie on the living room floor.

A home surveillance camera caught the scene as one man held a gun and the other chased after the puppies with a plastic garbage bag as they scampered around the room and underneath a coffee table.

He snatched one of the dogs from a woman’s hands.

No one was injured.

Corona said before they were returned, the dogs were found in several places, including Long Beach.

Authorities believe the robbers didn’t intend to sell the dogs but probably wanted to give them away as gifts, Corona said.

An LAPD official did not know if Betton had legal representation.

Saw Zodiac on Friday night. It's an okay film, but probably 30 minutes to 45 minutes to long. The film spanned many years and basically it was the same thing over and over again: Searching for the Zodiac killer from the 60's and 70's. He was never caught, but I did learn they actually had a suspect but didn't have enough evidence to arrest him.

At one point the investigating detectives go see Dirty Harry. You see a clip with the late John Vernon and you hear a couple of other seens. Most notable when the  killer played by Andrew Robinson  hijacks the schools bus. It was also quite obvious that they could not get permission to use Clint Eastwood's likeness in the film. He is missing from the any of the visuals and audio clips from the film. Also there is another quick seen in the lobby where they show a standee cutout of Dirty Harry and it is scene from the neck down.

There was also a coming attraction of a film about this kid who is under house arrest. He is not allowed to go beyond a certain distance or he will get arrest and go to jail. He gets bored and starts looking into other peoples homes with binoculars. He then thinks he sees a murder.

Gee I think the film was once called Rear Window.

I hear ya!

Now movies about an event are instead about people who are investigating the event:

HOLLYWOODLAND - a detective lives his life while investigating the death of George Reeves

THE BLACK DAHLIA - a detective live his life while investigating the death of The Black Dahlia

ZODIAC - a reporter investigates the San Francisco killings

I've heard that David Shire's score (his first major film in probably twenty years) is very retro and very good.

The film has been getting good comments, but they're very confusing - some calling it a great newspaper movie in the tradition of All The President's Men, some calling it "brutal" (I've read nothing that would imply it's overly violent or "brutal" - this happens frequently - you'll read that sort of comment then see the film and scratch your head about the "brutal" part), some calling it "funny", etc.

Warning, long post ahead:

Edi, to give you more background about Radio Wales, (thanks to Francois for posting the link), we are allowed to listen to music at my place of employment (The Foundation Center). I listen to many shows on the BBC. I was looking for shows that played theatre and film music and came across a program on Radio Wales called Showtime. It's hosted by Beverley Humphreys. She's a former opera singer who has moved into being a radio presenter.

I listened to the show for a few weeks and then in April of 2003 she opened her program with the overture to Gypsy. I had tickets here in New York for the Bernadette Peters revival. I sent an e-mail to Beverley and said I was seeing the show and how nice it was that she played the overture. Her producer wrote back and said that Beverley was interested in what I thought and could she call me to tape some comments. Since I love radio (or what used to be radio, with the exception of NPR most radio in this country is DREADFUL), I gleefully said yes.

I saw Gypsy, jotted down some notes, the producer called and we spoke and low and behold, the next Wednesday I was on Beverley's show.

I must have done something right because she asked if I would be interested in commenting on Broadway shows on an ongoing basis. I was overjoyed. If I had been born in the 1920s-1950s my dream job would have been to work in radio (there is something wonderful and magical about good radio). I said yes and with minor interruptions, I have been doing just that (talking about Broadway musicals on BBC Radio Wales) since April 30, 2003.

The show is now broadcast live on Saturday evening from 5-6pm. I listen to see if one of my segments is broadcast (they don't usually tell me when a review will be played, nor am I payed for this, it's all an avocation for me, a great gig for a former actor). If a segement is broadcast I then send out e-mails to my "fan base" (many of them are here on HHW) telling them. I include the link to the show and information about where I am in the broadcast.

If you, Edi, (or anyone else on this here board) would like to receive the e-mail when I appear on Radio Wales, send me a Private Message or IM with your e-mail address and I'll add you to the list.

Those of you who usually get an e-mail, stay tuned because I will be sending one out sometime today telling you about the new broadcast. Remember, it's only available to hear for 7 (seven) days after broadcast (it will be up through March 10th).

End of long post! Thanks for reading.

Good Morning!  Good Afternoon!

I'm up!  I'm up!...  Actually I've been up for a while now.  I just felt like cooking brunch for the house today, so...

Pancakes, Chicken Sausage with Apples and Maple Syrup, Chopped Toasted Pecans (for the pancakes), and wamr Maple Syrup (also for the pancakes), plus Coffee and OJ.

Quite good if I do say so myself.  *And I'm loving my double-burner griddle!

DR edisaurus - RE: MoonPies - Although, I like MoonPies, I don't really love them.  They always seem to disappoint after the first couple of bites.  I actually expect them to be a bit more decadent - more chocolate coating, more sugar in the filling.  However, on the flipside, as far as junk food is concerned, they're actually on the low fat, low sugar side of things.  Which really isn't a good thing necessarily, but it's something.

...But when you're on the road, and you want the most filling thing in the vending machine after spending a couple of hours on the bus.... Those $1.00 Double Decker MoonPies sure are tempting!

Jose, Nope, don't speak French to any proficient degree.  Many translators/adapters don't speak the language of the plays they adapt.  Often they are given a literal translation of the play and work from that or...as in my case...I digested and referred to four different translations of the play and, from those, did a version (freely adapted) in my own words.

The Fantasticks is now on the list of shows Richard and I hope to see in late June/early July when we're next in NYC.  Do you think it will still be playing then?

I think I've told this story here before:  Richard and I were falling in love at the time I was playing The Mute in the DR-Elmore-directed production here in Middletown.  "They Were You" sort of became our song, to the extent that we included it in the pre-ceremony music at our wedding.  It was being played just as many of our theatre friends, including the pianist and the people who'd played El Gallo, Matt, Luisa, and one of the fathers were taking their seats.

I just felt like cooking brunch for the house today, so...
Sounds delicious, DR Jose.

And while we're on the topic of FOOD: seeing as how Paula Deen came up in discussion the other day, has anyone ever tried making her "Better Than Sex" cake?

[sorry, haven't quite mastered the art of linking yet...]

1 (18.25-ounce) box yellow cake mix, plus ingredients to prepare
1 (20-ounce) can crushed pineapple
1 1/3 cups sugar
1 (3.4-ounce) box French vanilla pudding, plus ingredients to prepare
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
1 cup flaked, sweetened toasted coconut

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Prepare yellow cake mix as directed using a greased 13 by 9 by 2-inch pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. While cake is baking, combine the pineapple and 1 cup of sugar in a saucepan, and bring to a boil over medium heat stirring constantly. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.

Remove cake from oven and using a fork, pierce holes into cake. Pour pineapple mixture over hot cake and set aside.

Prepare pudding according to package directions. Spread pudding over cake and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled. Whip heavy cream and remaining sugar until stiff. Cover top of cake with whipped cream and sprinkle toasted coconut on top.

As I inferred the other day (or did I imply), I went to the press conference and I have no idea how they're finding material.  I said that I hoped it wasn't going to remain the clique-ridden thing this woman has always done - using the usual suspects for the shows, directors, creative teams - it's such a bore.  I'm going to try and have a meeting with her to see what's what.  I do know that Michael Kerker was going to talk to her about me and The Brain - but I won't know more until I get a meeting.

Are you keeping the French(?) version of a scene where a scene equals anytime a character enters of exits the stage?  I remember studying some Moliere plays in high school, and the initials growns that went up from the class - myself included - when Mrs. Kammerer gave the class the assignment, "Please read and summarize the first 12 scenes for tomorrow." -Well, that basically ended up being only about 20 pages of text.  C'etait vrai, n'est-ce pas?

No. dear heart, "ante" means "before" (ante-bellum, AM); what you have is a postprandial stroll.

Or you could have your nosh succeeded by a walk.

I guess all this walking is what keeps you fitting into that size 1 "little-black-dress" ;)

AND...on a totally different subject...

WHY has not Rita Moreno's "Googie Gomez" of The Ritz been preserved forever on silver disc?

It has! Only it wasn't one of those little silver DVD discs but rather one of those large silver laserdiscs. I have it on laserdisc.

STarted out the afternoon watching POSEIDON on HBO-HD. Not nearly as effective as the 1972 version for my money though, of course, it cost hundreds of millions more to produce. To be honest, I don't think the actors were nearly as personable a bunch as in the 1972 version. I actually found several of them very irritating and wished them ill, not what the writers and director would have wanted the audience to feel, I don't think.

I'll stick to the original version as a guilty pleasure. I don't really understand why they felt the need to remake it anyway.

Finally, I put in LOUISIANA PURCHASE. Made by Paramount in Technicolor, it has that brownish Technicolor look that all of Paramount's Technicolor films tend to have on DVD. Of course, Universal hasn't done any noticeable clean-up of the print they used for the DVD. The reel change markers are still there in glorious purple, and there are colored specks sprinkled throughout the first 20 minutes that I've watched.

Thank you soooo much for all the birthday wishes, It is really something special.

To continue my wonderful birthday weekend I am now going to see "The Groovaloos", a free 40 dollar ticket because it's my b-day and I know the choreographer. Then I will come home and walk over to the Pantages where I have tickets to see "Wicked", also free from a friend who decided not to go.

I GOT THE CALL!!!

(about five minutes ago!)

So, since it's now official...

I will be the rehearsal pianist for the other post-Ebb Kander & Ebb musical, All About Us (formerly known as Over and Over, and Skin of Our Teeth.  This will be for the upcoming production up at Westport Country Playhouse.

So, not only will I be getting to play for the wonderfully talented - and amazingly well-connected - Patrick Vaccariello (who's the musical supervisor and conductor for the current revival of A Chorus Line - and the venerable John Kander, but the cast includes Tony winners Cady Huffman and Shuler Hensley, and the still sensational Eartha Kitt(!).

So, needless to say, there's quite a smile on my face right now.

Thanks again to everyone for their Good Vibes and Wishes.

Ahh, a nice, relaxing "all about me" Sunday...

...In honor of DR Jose, I was going to post a photo of my current treat -- vanilla ice cream with this heavenly concoction of strawberries and balsemic vinegar mixture (something my little leprechaun came up with) -- in a golden chalice ----  but alas, I do not have the Holy Grail, no digital camera, and no chocolates wrapped in gold foil, nor a golden fig leaf to grace the top of the creation -- but it's the thought that counts, right?...so I'll just pretend my plain, white, ceramic bowl is indeed the Holy Grail fit for a HHW Goddess...

Well, will this suffice for now?

edisaurus, believe me, from what I've heard, you don't want to see this "production" of Camelot.  Its director is known for "recreating" the work of better people, and there are several of the show's songs cut.

Yes...I think I remember reading that they cut one of my favorites: "The Seven Deadly Virtues". Why?? They cut it from the movie, too, didn't they? I did like David Hemmings as Mordred, and since that's a song you don't really have to sing, anyway...

Why??

The DVD is great and it has a commentary by Frankenheimer and the long version (with complete nudity) of the wine stomping ceremony.

Frankenheimer directed several original films for TNT. I cut the trailers for them,so he would occasionally call the editing room. That's not a typical thing, but he was friends with the producer I was working with...they were tennis buddies. One time she wasn't in the room when he called (well, she very rarely WAS) so I did get to tell him how much I loved SECONDS. He was very gracious and appreciative.

I went and stuffed my gaping maw with Indian food from STAR INDIA....then came home and did yard work most of the day, while supervised by Freddy and Dog Bosco.

My neighbor from the mansion across the street, Rod, came over and played with Bosco a bit and we chatted about thisa and thata. They got a new puppy the other day, a cute little golden retriever.

Now I am exhausted and all stuffed up from allergies...this nice weather must have started up the pollen or grass seed or something...but that is Ok...I am pleased to see the sun out instead of the rain.

I got a pretty good night's sleep last night, but when I started reading the newspaper this morning it hit me that I was still sleepy, so I went back to bed, that's when I had the dream, so analyze this one DR JRand:

We were in my house (except it didn't look anything like my house) and we had invited MBarmum and some other HHWer to stay at our house cause they needed a place to spend the night after we had been to some theatre show.  So Cason and I are in the kitchen that morning when MBarnum and the other HHWer walk in (I never did see the other guy's face, he got a drink and went back to bed)..anyway, MBarnum was in a white T-shirt and boxers (plaid I think) and looked just like his avatar except he had thse gold ,wire-rimmed glasses on.  I asked, "Would you guys like some breaksfast like eggs and bacon."  MBarnum says, "No, I just want a hotdog."  My dream Karen wasn't thinking that was weird cause the dream Karen remembered she had read on the site that MBarnum loved hotdogs like DR Sandra loves diet cherry coke.  I look in the frig and there are no hotdogs, but the freezer is filled with them (like I had bought a gross at Sam's or Costco's, or something like that).  But they had been in there forever, so I look at Case and he gives me that one-raised eyebrow look while mouthing "blech!" so I don't want to give MBarnum bad hotdogs that could make him sick so I tell him "I could cook you a couple of pieces of bacon and put them together to look like a hotdog."  And MBarnum goes "Okay" and then we're eating at the table (which looks nothing like my table) and I notice that MBarnum is wearing two huge rings, one on each hand.  The one is gold with some big crest on it, and the other is silver or pewter with some symbol that I'm not sure what it is.  Then the dream ended.

When I told Cason and my husband about my dream, my husband said "You're loopey and they're gonna band you from that site if you tell him."  Cason and I just laughed at that.  Then I said, "I wonder what the symbolism was for that one."  Cason gave me his mock "I'm thinking" look, then just laughed and said "Hee-hah!"

And I swear all of the above really happened -- most bizarre and silly

Yes...I think I remember reading that they cut one of my favorites: "The Seven Deadly Virtues". Why?? They cut it from the movie, too, didn't they? I did like David Hemmings as Mordred, and since that's a song you don't really have to sing, anyway...

Why??
Der Brucer, before I met him (I believe when he was still a blond) played Mordred in a community production somewhere... Monterey?  As he explained it, it really is a song that needs to be performed, not sung.  And trust me, he's much better as a performer.

I don't know what DR Jose would make of his performance, however, as he says he lept from the stage onto the piano in the pit!  SCUFF MARKS!

Well, during my college summers, I worked in the Personnel Records division at Coast Guard HQ in Washington, DC.  And since we had access to said records, we were granted a certain security clearance level... And since it never really technically 'goes away'....

When I was in Australia a few years ago, my birthday happened to coincide with the trip, so... At the of end of a very wonderful meal, they brought a Vegemite Birthday Cake for me!  -Well more like a big Vegemite Sandwich.  -But it had sparklers in it!

I had a dream this afternoon, too.

There was some kind of celebration in town. It consisted of blimps flying overhead. The tradition was to throw rocket-powered model airplanes at the blimps with the hope of exploding one. When the model airplanes fell to the ground, you pick it up and hurl it up again. One of them fell into our yard, and my dad (who passed years ago) picked one up and was about to hurl it at a blimp.

Then I woke up because the phone rang.

What does this mean?

POTENTIAL SPOILER

Well, it's certainly becoming obvious that the producers are fixing the results of the show by the material they're picking for the contestants.  If you give someone a bad song to sing, they're only so much "good" they can get out of it.  In other words, "Sh*t in, Sh*t out."

-And not the best easiest thing to eat while walking along 7th Avenue... or riding the A train back uptown.  The powdered sugar is bad enough, but then you also have to deal with the cream filling.  Most definitely a knife and fork confection.  -Ideally accompanied by a cafe au lait.

I love good onion rings, wouldn't want to eat pimento anything.  Most likely I would have the egg salad sandwich & hope it wasn't runny.

The best onion rings I have had is a mom and pop place in GrandForks.

The main thing at the Varsity is that you have to know how to order. When someone yells at you "whatdyahave?"

you say: "One yellow dog walkin', rings and an F.O." and you get a hot dog with mustard, onion rings and a frosted orange (sort of like a melted creamsicle) to go.

And they are the skinny rings.

I've now finished Infamous (after having a little salad from the Gelson's salad bar - no fat 1000 Island dressing).  While Capote ultimately has better form to it, I think Infamous has more interesting things in it, despite some extremely rotton directorial and writer choices.  The actor who plays Capote is superb, howeer.

Well... I saw who got eliminated tonight, but I don't remember who it was.  Neither do I care.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD

Alas, the show which used to be bad in the sense that I wanted to watch the train wreck is just plain ole bad.  And boring.

Tonight was just a Danny night, so... I think the song choice for Austin may have backfired.  The song choice for Max was well done.  The song chosen for Chad did him no favors at all.  And the song for Derek - well, the promo piece they did for him beforehand and the song picked for him, basically sabotaged him.  So...

We are back from the Cincinnati Pops concert with the Celtic Tenors, which we enjoyed very much.  Beforehand, DS Rob and I went to the Apple Store, where I almost bought an 8 gig red iPod.  Almost, because the guy said if I trade in my old one, they'll give me a 10% discount on the new one.  Since we were on our way to Music Hall, I had a "lady" purse with me and didn't have my iPod.  Maybe next weekend...

Toby Jones, the son of actor Freddie Jones (who was the barker in THE ELEPHANT MAN). He certainly physically matched Capote more than Philip Seymour Hoffman did, at least from the stills I've seen.

I began my evening finishing LOUISIANA PURCHASE. Not a very good film. Flatly directed and acted. I found Victor Moore more annoying than funny. And most of the score was cut. The color was nice though, as I said earlier, Universal didn't do any digital cleaning on the print they used for a transfer at all.

GREASE was very irritating to me tonight because the judges are doing what they're doing to make it a contest.

In my mind, the only worthy contender out of these four is Austin Miller. He can sing very well, he can dance like a dervish and not be winded, and he has oodles of stage presence. (They really haven't let us see any of the acting scenes, but I'm assuming he can act.) He's also the closest of the four to Travolta if he's your idea of the ideal Danny.

Kathleen Marshall pegged what he did tonight to "Fun, Fun, Fun" perfectly. He had fun, and used his triple threat abilities to make the number really entertaining. (He also showed off his very strong and on-the-money falsetto that puts all of the falsettos used by this season's AMERICAN IDOL men to shame.)

But David and Jim complained that the sense of fun they were looking for looked artificial on Austin during the number. Good god! That's what acting is!

And Austin's number was BY FAR the most complex in terms of movement, choreography (as all of his numbers have been; they always give him the most to do while people like Derek and the evicted Jason always just stand and sing ballads), and interaction with the girls.

Max, who was all three judges' pick tonight, had the second best routine ("Hard to Handle"), but I didn't think his singing was anywhere near the class of Austin's, and he just looks too young to me (and too much like Huntz Hall).

Chad's "Don't Stop Me Now" did have wobbly vocals, but his routine was more interesting to me than Max's. David's infatuation with Chad's looks insures that if he and Derek are in the bottom two (as I suspect they will be next week), they'll pick Chad strictly on looks.

Derek's crack in his vocals ("Heaven") makes two weak vocal performances in a row, and as he was doing literally nothing of interest during the vocal, the judges who liked him from the start have really turned on him. I have to agree. He's got a great body, but his voice just isn't up to the demands of those high notes that Danny's going to have to deliver eight times a week.

I sure agree with DR Jose about this vocal material, however. I hate every one of the songs they used tonight. They must have gotten the rights for peanuts to save money. The girls got much better songs last week.

As for the girl who was ejected, I was surprised. They had saved her twice before, and she wasn't the lowest vote getter this week, so I thought they'd save her. I thought in the sing off, she did the better job of the two. But I honestly don't think either of those two girls in the bottom two have the right stuff for Sandy.

I liked DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES tonight. The various stories moved along with interesting dimensions to the characters, and I was quite surprised that the Edie and Carlos storyline (which I had read earlier was going to develop) was handled sweetly and with great aplomb. The Mike and Ian face-off definitely isn't over despite the way it appeared to have to be tonight,.

I love actor John Slattery, so to introduce him as Gaby's next amour was exciting. Looking forward to seeing that develop.

I knew the Tom-Lynette anniversary would turn out just the way it did with her being stranded, but I loved the way that was resolved.

Interesting dream DR Karen! But I don't see anything Freudian about my eating weiners.

Oddly, enough I am cooking hot dogs at this moment!

Well, there you have it...all these posts about dreams, Freud, symbolism, etc., and it has nothing to do with any them.  By jove, it wasn't a dream, it was a premonition!  You do like hotdogs and you were going to have them today. ...  Nothing Freudian about that....right, DR JRand?

...but what about those rings?  Got a huge, gold crest ring to go along with those boxers?

I hear Mr. Sondheim [voiced by himself] will be appearing on the Simpsons episode that starts in a few minutes, for those on the East Coast at any rate.

I'd read that Sondheim was going to be on the March 25th episode!  I didn't know about tonight's episode. :(

Yes...I think I remember reading that they cut one of my favorites: "The Seven Deadly Virtues". Why?? They cut it from the movie, too, didn't they? I did like David Hemmings as Mordred, and since that's a song you don't really have to sing, anyway...

Why??

Ahem...speaking from experience (I played the part in Monterey CA)...Selling this song requires breaking the fourth wall; my director actually had me leap from the stage onto the piano in the pit and play to selected individuals in the audience - it was a scene stealer! (And I can't sing a note!)

der Brucer

My Mordred gig got me pre-cast as the lead villain in a California First Theatre production - which I turned down because of the lengthy commitment (every week-end all summer long).

Ah, the 'ole "Midwestern nice" thing.  I'm sure you're right!

I went to school in Ohio, and being from the East Coast, stupidly thought I had arrived in the Midwest.  The locals quickly corrected me on that - no, I was still in the East.  And looking at a map, you know, I discovered that they were absolutely right!   :P

Any native East Coaster will explain that "Out West" means the other side of the Allegheny mountains.

And as "Grease..." wraps up...

The producers are in no way helping any of these contestants with the material that they, the producers, are picking for the contestants.

I'm still shaking my head in disbelief.  And pity.

I know!  I saw the segment on Austin, the blond guy, who was supposed to show that he can be "funny."  They send him to The Groundlings to teach him a few things, but then they have him sing "Fun, Fun, Fun" (as in "till her daddy takes her T-Bird away.")  Yea, that's a "funny" song. ::)

Well, if I read ahead before posting I could have saved a lot of typing!

DR Jose, if you want to give Shuler Hensley a chuckle, mention The Big Chicken. It's the world famous landmark of Marietta, GA, his hometown:

Hmm.. I'll see if I can work that in during the meet and greet.

(I believe when he was still a blond)

Yes, but I died it black for the part - and even let my fingernails grow: I had 3/4" talons by opening night! (The call buttons for the elevators in the University were electro-static - so I had to use a knuckle to page a ride.) I might also add that opening cigarette packs with long nails is a bitch!

Re Over and Over - when I was in NY rehearsing for The Last Starfighter, I went into the rehearsal room - it had just been used for casting sessions for Over and Over - and I got to have a nice chat with John K.  We will, of course, want full reports from Jose.

I shall report what I feel comfortable reporting, if you get my drift... And I think you do.

Again, it will be a little strange showing up for the first day of rehearsal, and then leaving for the rest of the week, so...  But I'm sure I'll have a report or two along the way.

Jose...if I may ask, as rehearsal accompanist, once the show is up and running, are you done with it or will you actually play in the band or have some other function in the production??

Well, I'm hoping to make it down to Chelsea in the morning to get my hair cut... And then I have to do this... and that... go here... And there... And then my day will wrap up with the 1,500th performance of Avenue Q.  -I haven't seen the show since the original cast left, so I'm looking forward to seeing the "replacements".

In any case... I need sleep.

Goodnight.

I'm strictly rehearsal pianist this time round - rehearsals and tech week.  Which I actually like.  I like the process, getting to see the show being put togther.  And then I actually get to SEE the show - which is something I've rarely ever had the opportunity to do.

Time for bed, what a weekend this has been! ( I have a math test tomarrow...I don't like test's on mondays, they set the wrong mood)

Wicked was good, I think that some of the cast members pushed the jokes a little too hard, and I dislike the sound system in the Pantages...Im sure on the orchestra level it is loud, but there was no sound coming into the balcony, so the show sounded dead even though it was quite good. My mother enjoyed it very much. which made it worth going to me.
I had been slightly spoiled by seeing the original cast in NY.

Oh, I forgot about the rings...I don't wear any jewelry other then my Buddha chain, and that is around my neck. My fingers are ringless...unless someone proposes.

But we still don't know what that means, do we! I am intrigued still.

LETS GIVE BK SOMETHING TO FRET ABOUT:

Daylight Savings Time starts next weekend - three weeks earlier than before.

Computer Programs earlier than 2005 may not update their clock correctly.

Many digital devices like VCRs, TV's, etc. may not update correctly.

The world may end.
