And the word of the day is: AMPHIGORY!
Good morning, all! Except for a dream in which I was shot while running from a demented Hindu with a pistol, I slept very well. While the shooting took place in what I remember to be Trump Tower, the rest of my dreams took place in Ohio, I think.
Good morning elmore
And the word of the day is: AMPHIGORY!
DR Matt, thanks for your comments about CURTAINS. I hope you get a chance to see it.
Me, too! Your enthusiasm was contagious.
Can't wait for the cast album either!
DR Cillaliz - has your car been parked under cover in Omaha or will you have to clear it of snow before you can drive home?
There was also a coming attraction of a film about this kid who is under house arrest. He is not allowed to go beyond a certain distance or he will get arrest and go to jail. He gets bored and starts looking into other peoples homes with binoculars. He then thinks he sees a murder.
Gee I think the film was once called Rear Window.
I'm up to my ass in Tartuffe, both as adapter and actor (I'm playing Orgon). We open Friday. Up in front of a live audience Wednesday.
Pray for Rosemary's Baby.
What is it, fish? Thanks, DearReaderLaura. I just don't know WHERE I got the inspiration... ;D
Mmmm, DR Jose, that brunch sounds wonderful!
DR Ginny - Hmm... Tito Munoz and the Celtic Men and Woman... Hmm...
???
CATS and MICHAEL FLATLEY are coming to Indianapolis, but they are in separate shows.
Ginny, thanks! I love that song (They Were You). It's my favorite song in the show and one of my all-time favorite songs of any genre. It would be in my Top 10 list of show songs on any day.
I just felt like cooking brunch for the house today, so...Sounds delicious, DR Jose.
BK - How does someone apply to be part of the L.A. Musical Theater festival? or is it by referral or recommendation only?
Ginny, I think Fantasticks should still be running. It's available on the half-price ticket booth but that's no indication of good or bad business, most shows appear at the booth at some point. I haven't heard any news about any closing so I think you'll be able to see the show.
CATS and MICHAEL FLATLEY are coming to Indianapolis, but they are in separate shows.Just wondering...if the companies got confused and switched theaters inadvertently...would the respective audiences notice?
Did I really just say/post that?!?!?!?Do we have "do over's" on this board? ;)
Do we have "do over's" on this board? ;)
Which part of NYC do you live in?
Jose, Nope, don't speak French to any proficient degree. Many translators/adapters don't speak the language of the plays they adapt. Often they are given a literal translation of the play and work from that or...as in my case...I digested and referred to four different translations of the play and, from those, did a version (freely adapted) in my own words.
DR JoseSPiano, didn't mean to mislead, but when I typed New York, I meant the state, not the city! I'm in Westchester, but only about a half hour out by train.
DR Jose, what's the name of the great cookie place? I didn't get there, but know someone who would like to check it out.
some bakeries
It's a deal! What's a few extra hours on the treadmill?
It's a deal! What's a few extra hours on the treadmill?
DR Ben (or other New Yorkers) - speaking of the half-price booth, how's the construction coming along on the new facility? Are they still in the temp quarters?
Whatever my 4:00pm meal is called. ;)
DR JoseSPiano, didn't mean to mislead, but when I typed New York, I meant the state, not the city! I'm in Westchester, but only about a half hour out by train.
DR singdaw - I've had variations of Paula Deen's "Better Than Sex" Cake. Usually with chocolate pudding. It's not bad, but I'm not sure I'd truly qualify it as "better than sex". Although, that may all depends upon one's experience. Or lack thereof.
;D
AND...on a totally different subject...It has been in this house. Everything's coming up Googie.
WHY has not Rita Moreno's "Googie Gomez" of The Ritz been preserved forever on silver disc?
...and the initials growns...
...preceded and/or anteceded(?)...
AND...on a totally different subject...
WHY has not Rita Moreno's "Googie Gomez" of The Ritz been preserved forever on silver disc?
CATS and MICHAEL FLATLEY are coming to Indianapolis, but they are in separate shows.
Gotcha. Well, if you ever come into the city, I have some bakeries I'd like to show you.
;)
OH!
DR elmore - Did you like your Levain cookie?
Just heard DR Ben's review of The Fantasticks, and, as usual, "They Were You" made me cry.
Isn't it FLATLEY FEET?
Will we never get to page seven?
It's Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance
I would guess CATS is Feet of Clay
I-29 just opened last night. Checking the IDOT website, it looks like the road is normal for all but the last 20 miles and that is partially snow covered. So, it's not too bad. I'm hoping that maybe they will get the rest of it cleaned off today.
Is this a new euphemism for etchings?
I picked up a cheap copy of Infamous - was this made at the same time as Capote and then held for release?
Held back for a year to distance it from "Capote," which deals with the same period in the writer's life, "Infamous" inevitably won't escape comparison with the earlier film.
I won't shell out any money to rent/buy it until I sampled the goods...
Thanks, DearReaderLaura. I just don't know WHERE I got the inspiration... ;D
DR EDISAURUS here is some Camelot touring info.
I'm looking forward to seeing INFAMOUS when it finally shows up on pay cable. I won't shell out any money to rent/buy it until I sampled the goods, but it got very good reviews.
Warning, long post ahead:
edisaurus - sadly, the Goldsmith score has never been available, although heaven knows I've tried to pry it out of Paramount. They simply cannot be bothered.
There are still a few sausage links and pancakes leftover, so if anyone would like to come over...
;)
And I LOVED reading it! I love radio too. I also love Radio 2! You're right, the US radio is pretty uninspiring; that's why I started listening to short wave years ago. The internet has taken the place of that.
There is a radio station up in your parts that I do love: WFMU, which broadcasts from NJ. They play a lot of weird stuff and some fantastic stuff, especially on Irwin Chusid's show.
I would love to be on your list and will send you my email address. I look forward to hearing the show!
I would guess CATS is Feet of Clay
And while we're on the topic of FOOD: seeing as how Paula Deen came up in discussion the other day, has anyone ever tried making her "Better Than Sex" cake?Quote
My mother made me a cake called that years ago for my birthday. It seems to have different ingredients than this one. I told my mother I loved it, but inside I was thinking "this person obviously has never had really good sex!"
They have a neat little area set up with a counter, bar stools and a strip of outlets so you can play on your computer and charge it all at the same time
And the word of the day is: AMPHIGORY!PRIM HOAGY?
DR JoseSPiano, didn't mean to mislead, but when I typed New York, I meant the state, not the city! I'm in Westchester, but only about a half hour out by train.
I-29 just opened last night. Checking the IDOT website,
I really can't wait to see the cats though. I haven't left them for this long in ages and Callie hasn't had one of her medications since I left. The vet thought it would be ok for 5 days and well, this is day 5, so I really want to be sure she's ok. She won't let my cat sitter give her pills, but does let her give her the liquid
Gotcha. Well, if you ever come into the city, I have some bakeries I'd like to show you.
;)
Well, just keep your eyes here on this board, as I suspect another HHW Eating and Walking and Eating and Walking Tour will be shaping up sometime in June. And maybe even another one in October.
-With all the walking involved, it basically becomes a "negative calorie" activity.
Congratulations to DR Jose!! That's great news.
I GOT THE CALL!!!
Ahh, a nice, relaxing "all about me" Sunday...
...In honor of DR Jose, I was going to post a photo of my current treat -- vanilla ice cream with this heavenly concoction of strawberries and balsemic vinegar mixture (something my little leprechaun came up with) -- in a golden chalice ---- but alas, I do not have the Holy Grail, no digital camera, and no chocolates wrapped in gold foil, nor a golden fig leaf to grace the top of the creation -- but it's the thought that counts, right?...so I'll just pretend my plain, white, ceramic bowl is indeed the Holy Grail fit for a HHW Goddess...
edisaurus, believe me, from what I've heard, you don't want to see this "production" of Camelot. Its director is known for "recreating" the work of better people, and there are several of the show's songs cut.
Is this some sort of...code? ??? :o ;D
Almost time for TAR!!!
Well, will this suffice for now?
*Did you top it off with a grind of freshly-cracked black pepper? Hmmmm... That's good eating!
The DVD is great and it has a commentary by Frankenheimer and the long version (with complete nudity) of the wine stomping ceremony.
It'll be fun to hear what newbie thinks of DR Jose's "bakeries"...I can't comment on that; I'm stuck back a few pages on trying to envision those soccer players... ::)
DR elmore - Patrick sends his best. As for the orchestrations, Bill Brohn will be supplementing Michael Gibson's original charts from the Signature Theatre production.
Edi, have you listened to either CeltRadio or Renaissance radio?
Naaa, I just think it's a variation on that old Mae West quote "Why don't you come up sometime and see me" .....
It'll be fun to hear what newbie thinks of DR Jose's "bakeries"...
yes audiences in Indy would notice, but nobody would say anything.
ARe you familiar with Peter Oustrousko? He is a composer from MN. He is not bad and I have listened to a couple of his CDs. The local library has copies of them.
I <heart> Signature Theatre. Any theatre that has Bill Irwin as their artist-in-residence is tops in my book and worth a trip up from Atlanta!
Isn't it running late tonight? I noticed that golf didn't end at 6:00 PM.
What's with that fish at the top of your avatar? ... Looks like he's been drilled full of holes....Miss Karen, when I attain Goddess status like you, I will upgrade my fish...like so much fish.
If I knew how to do all that funky message stuff on this here contraption, I would post some cool graphic with a theme of 'Way to go, Jose!"
You could always hop down to Florida to see it, DR EDISAURUS. You are in the movie business, don't you make a million per?
Dakota-I add Vegemite to my nut burgers & mushroom burgers before cooking them. I don’t care for it as a spread.
DR edisaurus - ....From this morning... As for the formatting commands, all you have to do is place your text between the formatting brackets. So, based on your post this morning...
I've been out taking the day....Only our esteemed BK has days with cut scenes.
DR Jose ~ MY GOSH! That's it! You must open your own hotline. That's what my treat looks like, exactly...
I like Vegemite and Marmite, too. We have an Australian Bakery on the Marietta Square so it's easy to find all that Aussie stuff, like lamingtons.
Yes...I think I remember reading that they cut one of my favorites: "The Seven Deadly Virtues". Why?? They cut it from the movie, too, didn't they? I did like David Hemmings as Mordred, and since that's a song you don't really have to sing, anyway...
Why??
Well, it's a different Signature Theatre. This was/is Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA which "specializes" in musicals, especially those of Mr. Sondheim. Trust me, if Signature Theatre (Arlington, VA) had Bill Irwin as an artist-in-residence, I would actually consider working their again. ;)
Jose-You didn't mention my favorite NY bakery, Bruno's home of the wonderful marzipan. Where were those delicious almond macaroons from?
If you hit the "quote" button, you'll see the formatting code in the reply box.
I like Vegemite and Marmite, too. We have an Australian Bakery on the Marietta Square so it's easy to find all that Aussie stuff, like lamingtons.
Uh-oh it may be - I am watching NBC until 8 pm....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
congrats on having as many posts as Dr T has fingers, DR DtM...that is VERY atomic! ;D
Aha. I was thinking of the one in NY...
Nude wine stomping? Sounds like a fun DVD!None of my cooking DVDs have nude wine stomping.
DR EDISAURUS according to my Playbill "The Seven Deadly Virtues" is in this production.
"I Loved You Once in Silence" is missing.
Words that have never been spoken: "There goes the editor's Lexus".
OMG!I know. Der Brucer is actually watching this. :P :P :P
They have all the potential Danny's greased up to sing "Greased Lightning"!?!?!?!!!?
The horror... the horror..
Well, having worked on two "major" productions of Camelot, all I can say is what one of my director's said, "You cut what you love." There's just soooo much book, and soooo much music - especially if you decide to include "Take Me To The Fair" and "Fie On Goodness" - which are not a part of the "standard package" anymore. I do not envy any director who has to tackle the show. Even Lerner & Loewe never thought they truly finished, "solved" it.
Yes...I think I remember reading that they cut one of my favorites: "The Seven Deadly Virtues". Why?? They cut it from the movie, too, didn't they? I did like David Hemmings as Mordred, and since that's a song you don't really have to sing, anyway...Der Brucer, before I met him (I believe when he was still a blond) played Mordred in a community production somewhere... Monterey? As he explained it, it really is a song that needs to be performed, not sung. And trust me, he's much better as a performer.
Why??

I like Vegemite and Marmite, too. We have an Australian Bakery on the Marietta Square so it's easy to find all that Aussie stuff, like lamingtons.
DR EDISAURUS according to my Playbill "The Seven Deadly Virtues" is in this production.Maybe it's just being mouthed.
"I Loved You Once in Silence" is missing.
This is a nice, relaxing, all-about-me SUNDAE!
Maybe DR Jose has surveillance cameras stationed in your house?
Which reminds me of one my favorite musician jokes....
What do you call a guitar player without a girlfriend?
Homeless
DR Jose, cut that out! .....Sooo..the piano stuff is just a cover, heh? You really work for Homeland Security... I was wondering how they had such a big file on me...
OH! Do they carry Violet Crumble and Crunchy Bars? And Freddo Frogs? And Rocklea Road?
:)
And what's perfect pitch?
Getting the banjo into the dumpster the *first* time!
like DR Sandra loves diet cherry coke.
I <heart> Signature Theatre. Any theatre that has Bill Irwin as their artist-in-residence is tops in my book and worth a trip up from Atlanta!
Miss Karen-I can’t picture MBarnum wearing large rings. ;D
I know they have Violet Crumble (which sounds like someone from Willy Wonka) and Freddo Frogs, which sound like a French gangster! :)
I like Vegemite and Marmite, too. We have an Australian Bakery on the Marietta Square so it's easy to find all that Aussie stuff, like lamingtons.
Diet?
DIET?
:o
Again, if I could italicize or bolderize, I would do that now.
I am eating pudding.
Hey look! Pudding on the Ritz!
I bought the Ritz crackers just so I could say that.
Thankfully, they also brought out a chocolate cake too which was decorated with Freddo Frogs.
Let's all go to the lobby
Let's all go to the lobby..

Thanks!! Perfect! ....well, almost, if only they were in tiny plaid boxer shorts, white T-shirts, and a giant ring on each finger.....
Looking at that in "reply" mode, that took some doing!
Now, if you want a pic of DR MBarnum in plaid boxer shorts.... Well, I just need to doctor up that pic, and....

(What Would Freud Say?)
It worked! I blame Jose!
My best guess, DR MISS KAREN, is that in your brief meeting with DRMBARNUM during the run of BRAINEX - he made an indelible impression on your subconscious. He is in someway connected to someone in your past, by looks voice or action, and this could have even been someone who is a rejected suitor.

For your consideration:

(That's their spelling of desserts, not mine.)
I am also told that in Australia, the vanilla slice is also known as a "snot block".
Tomovoz, is this true?
Actually in dreams the blimp is usually the opposite.....or even a representation of the female anatomy that is NOT the brain.
Ohh...umm, well then...never mind... then we are to assume that the airplanes being lobbed at the blimp might be, in the Latin...(I'd better give up, as I said, I'm no Freudian expert...and obviously so dream expert, either)...I defer to you DR JRand on all future dream analysis...

I love good onion rings, wouldn't want to eat pimento anything. Most likely I would have the egg salad sandwich & hope it wasn't runny.
Jose has only himself to blame!
Keith prefers those big fat onion rings & I prefer the skinny ones. We will both eat either. :D
The main thing at the Varsity is that you have to know how to order. When someone yells at you "whatdyahave?"
you say: "One yellow dog walkin', rings and an F.O." and you get a hot dog with mustard, onion rings and a frosted orange (sort of like a melted creamsicle) to go.
And they are the skinny rings.

Yeah... The Glow and Shadow effects don't seem to work (anymore). -At least not in Safari.
What about IE?
I'm watching the Simpson show, but I can't seem to make sense out of it.
DR Jose, I do own two pairs of boxers...but not plaid...I think they are striped.
No one warned me...
There is a lot of FOOD on this board.
Not that I'm complaining!
DR Jose, I do own two pairs of boxers...but not plaid...I think they are striped.
Any news on Grease?
Will we never get to page eight?

What kind of medication, Cillaliz?
I GOT THE CALL!!!
(about five minutes ago!)
So, since it's now official...
I will be the rehearsal pianist for the other post-Ebb Kander & Ebb musical, All About Us (formerly known as Over and Over, and Skin of Our Teeth. This will be for the upcoming production up at Westport Country Playhouse.
So, not only will I be getting to play for the wonderfully talented - and amazingly well-connected - Patrick Vaccariello (who's the musical supervisor and conductor for the current revival of A Chorus Line - and the venerable John Kander, but the cast includes Tony winners Cady Huffman and Shuler Hensley, and the still sensational Eartha Kitt(!).
So, needless to say, there's quite a smile on my face right now.
Thanks again to everyone for their Good Vibes and Wishes.
:) :) :) :) :) :) :)
It has! Only it wasn't one of those little silver DVD discs but rather one of those large silver laserdiscs. I have it on laserdisc.
I got home with no problems, only a 30 minute delay in Chicago. I almost got a free flight voucher being bumped voluntarily, but at the last minute he said they had room after all....
The cats are glad I'm home. They have chased each other, sat on my lap and purred and now Boo is napping and Callie is trying to get me to go get her some treats. Guess I better go. Night
Have we totally lost DR Ron Pulliam? I hope you're feeling better!
...that's why I started listening to short wave years ago...
Interesting dream DR Karen! But I don't see anything Freudian about my eating weiners.
Oddly, enough I am cooking hot dogs at this moment!
I hear Mr. Sondheim [voiced by himself] will be appearing on the Simpsons episode that starts in a few minutes, for those on the East Coast at any rate.
Yes...I think I remember reading that they cut one of my favorites: "The Seven Deadly Virtues". Why?? They cut it from the movie, too, didn't they? I did like David Hemmings as Mordred, and since that's a song you don't really have to sing, anyway...
Why??
Ahem...speaking from experience (I played the part in Monterey CA)My Mordred gig got me pre-cast as the lead villain in a California First Theatre production
Ah, the 'ole "Midwestern nice" thing. I'm sure you're right!
I went to school in Ohio, and being from the East Coast, stupidly thought I had arrived in the Midwest. The locals quickly corrected me on that - no, I was still in the East. And looking at a map, you know, I discovered that they were absolutely right! :P
And as "Grease..." wraps up...
The producers are in no way helping any of these contestants with the material that they, the producers, are picking for the contestants.
I'm still shaking my head in disbelief. And pity.
Words that have never been spoken: "There goes the editor's Lexus".
Maybe DR Jose has surveillance cameras stationed in your house?
Der Brucer, before I met him (I believe when he was still a blond) played Mordred in a community production somewhere... Monterey? As he explained it, it really is a song that needs to be performed, not sung. And trust me, he's much better as a performer.
I don't know what DR Jose would make of his performance, however, as he says he lept from the stage onto the piano in the pit! SCUFF MARKS!
I had a bowl of Greek lemon chicken soup at our local diner. Perfect.
DR Jose, if you want to give Shuler Hensley a chuckle, mention The Big Chicken. It's the world famous landmark of Marietta, GA, his hometown:
(I believe when he was still a blond)
And I am not that fond of weiners in the morning.
Re Over and Over - when I was in NY rehearsing for The Last Starfighter, I went into the rehearsal room - it had just been used for casting sessions for Over and Over - and I got to have a nice chat with John K. We will, of course, want full reports from Jose.
Where's DR JRand and those dream analysis abilities when we need 'em?! DR ELmo's gun dream, my MBarnum hotdog dream, and DR Sandra's blimp dream -- lots to look over and think about...
I shall report what I feel comfortable reporting, if you get my drift... And I think you do.
Again, it will be a little strange showing up for the first day of rehearsal, and then leaving for the rest of the week, so... But I'm sure I'll have a report or two along the way.
I GOT THE CALL!!!
:) :) :) :) :) :) :)
Jose...if I may ask, as rehearsal accompanist, once the show is up and running, are you done with it or will you actually play in the band or have some other function in the production??
Congrats!!!!!!
I'm strictly rehearsal pianist this time round - rehearsals and tech week. Which I actually like. I like the process, getting to see the show being put togther. And then I actually get to SEE the show - which is something I've rarely ever had the opportunity to do.
George, have you listened to DAMN YANKEES before?
...but what about those rings? Got a huge, gold crest ring to go along with those boxers?
Oh, I forgot about the rings...I don't wear any jewelry other then my Buddha chain, and that is around my neck. My fingers are ringless...unless someone proposes.
But we still don't know what that means, do we! I am intrigued still.
