AAARRRGGGHHH!!!  I thought that I would be going to bed shortly after the new notes were posted, but NOOOOO!  I have to go to the store! >:( Why do I have to go to the store?  I'll tell you why I have to go to the store.  I have to go to the store because I have been wearing my contact lenses all day.  That in itself isn't enough reason for me to go to the store, but when I was just about to take out my contact lenses, I discovered to my HORROR that I have no more contact lens solution! :o I can't sleep with my contact lenses still on my eyballs, so I have to go to the store NOW and get some new contact lens solution so that I can take my contact lenses off of my eyeballs, place them in the new solution and be able to sleep.  DAMN.

Fortunately, there are a couple of 24-hour grocery stores close by, so it won't take too long.  And I'm still fully dressed...other than my shoes and socks. ::)

So, on that note (crap-flat) let me just say good night, all. 8)

I had another dream. It involved two babies that I didn't seem to care much about and a big mess mixing that powered formula that got all over my stove that they wouldn't consume, anyway. I woke up and fretted about those babies that don't exist. I finally just got up.

I love the play.  I just don't think there's a musical in it: Bernstein and Comden & Green couldn't do it and he's the only composer I can think of with the chops to find equivalent musical choices to match all the dramatic parody and styles in the original play.  It should have been a comic opera by Offenbach.

The question is can an animal actually give a performance? I am sure as with small children it is all in the editing. Also I am sure as in the case with Lassie there were several used in a single film. There was a running Lassie, a jumping Lassie, a cute Lassie etc.  Arnold the Pig on Green Acres was played by multiple pigs because once they grew to a certain size they became unmanagable. So many of animal performances of recent films where they "talked", like "Babe" were played by live versions and animitronics.

I really don't have a favorite performance by an aimal.

But I did get to meet and became an "assistant" for a week to Zippy The Chip. A great roller skater (He did this rather than walking) and when he wanted a hug (and he wanted a lot of them) he would bring his arms to his chest. I am sure he is no longer with us.

Well, it's certainly becoming obvious that the producers are fixing the results of the show by the material they're picking for the contestants.  If you give someone a bad song to sing, they're only so much "good" they can get out of it.  In other words, "Sh*t in, Sh*t out."
********
Which song(s) were you referring to?

Right now my favorite danny is max. And my favorite sandy is laura. Although since i have never seen them sing or act together i have no idea if they are compatible.

As for who they got rid of, i think it was obvious who was going to be in the bottom 2 (ally and kathleen). But i was disappointed with who they sent home (kathleen). Just in her sing-off, her acting skills were so obviously superior. I cannot believe that they are considering having ally as the new sandy.

Btw, since david ian is payrolling the show shouldn't his vote count more. He said he wanted kathleen to stay. I am surprised that kathleen (marshall) chose ally, since she has continually said that ally cannot act but that kathleen is superb.

Btw, most of us cannot post about GREASE when it is on since that is the same time as THE AMAZING RACE.

Tonight was just a Danny night, so... I think the song choice for Austin may have backfired.  The song choice for Max was well done.  The song chosen for Chad did him no favors at all.  And the song for Derek - well, the promo piece they did for him beforehand and the song picked for him, basically sabotaged him.  So...

Okay i just got to this post.

So you're saying that the judges want max to win???

I thought they wanted chad. Or at least that is how it is coming across with david ian.

I thought chad sounded terrible in his song (like he had the worst cold ever).

I actually think that they are quite shocked that max is still around. I don't think any of them ever thought he could cut it. But he is hugely popular. And he is the only danny who actually acts all of his songs. And since we are not privy to seeing any actual acting scenes, we must assume that max is the best actor.

It's all we have to go by!

I sure as heck hope they start showing acting scenes in couples. Or they are gonna just end up with a danny and sandy that have no chemistry.

I really cannot believe that they have a whole hour for just 4 people and they cannot bother to show any acting scenes.

Boggles my mind.

Don't they want a danny and sandy that work well together. To me that is so much of the show.

Ah!  Zippy The Chimp!

Steve's uncle was a photographer, and he used to keep a Zippy the Chimp doll in his studio for when he had children in a for a sitting.  Steve had pictures of the doll, but had never had one himself, so...  A couple years back, I found a whole Zippy family up for bidding on e-Bay - Zippy, his wife/girlfriend, and their baby (I guess).  And the squeaker still worked in Zippy's hand/paw too. :)

And my word on "Grease..." this morning... at least for now...

I thought Austin sounded bad during his song.  Not awful-bad, just sort of peculiar.  It should have been in a higher key, imho, and he sang most of it through his nose.  Yes, he was doing a character, but Danny never is supposed to sing like that in show.  So... Again, the producers aren't really helping anyone with the song their choosing for the contestants.  And although Max was good last night, he could have been a lot better with a different song - one where he didn't have to push to show his more tough, macho side.

Favorite Lassie moments:

June Lockhart - in a long shot drives that old Dodge Pickup from a long shot to a medium shot, stops the truck and jumps out and is in focus!

And....the plumber visits the Martins and leaves some tools by the sink.  Later June/Ruth is driving the 57 Dodge car and has a flat tire.  She loses control of the spare getting it out of the trunk and of course steps in a bear/bobcat trap.  Lassie comes by and Ruth makes a "C" figure with her hand telling Lassie to go get the C clamp the plumber left by the sink and bring it to her.  And she does, just before the bobcat gets her!

I do remember in the 70's watching an episode about a runaway speedboat and I said - if that dog brings that boat in by herself, I will never watch that show again.  She did and I haven't....much.

More about GREASE. The "assignments" each actor was given to help round him out as the perfect Danny were ludicrous. I hated that part of the show.

Even more, I despise the segment where the actors all rag on each other. It's not really good natured ragging either. One of them called Austin a "showgirl," which was definitely hitting below the belt. I'm not saying that there isn't competition and maybe even hard feelings among the guys wanting this part, but we don't have to see it, and all four come away looking like gossiping old biddies jealous of one another's attributes.

Damn! damn! damn!  I preferred to stay in and work on Liz' chart, but I had to go to 27th Street to begin ONCE UPON A MATTRESS.  So, I got to the subway platform and no trains!  Nothing local or express.  There's a big crowd, so this delay's been of some duration.  They never tell what the hell the problem is with the train you want, but every three or so minutes, the PA announces there's no uptown express service because of an "investigation" on the Brooklyn express line.  Sounds bad.  I'm home.  If my options are working or waiting for a train that may not come for another hour, I'd rather be home working.

It just dawned on me, too, that although I visited many, many movie sets as a child and met many stars, I was never on the LASSIE set, so I never met Lassie in person! (I believe that LASSIE was shot at Hal Roach studio in Culver City, which is where BK shot First Nudie Musical many years later. ) My uncle was given many gifts related to the show, including drinking glasses with a picture of Lassie on them. How's that for movie trivia!

Like DR JANE, I would NEVER say "Surprise me!" to a hairdresser. Even though I'm always very specific about what I want, more often than not I don't get it. I've never understood why it is so difficult to give the same cut each time. One friend of mine got so fed up with this that she cut her own hair for a year. I'm not that brave. I did recut my hair once when a hairdresser I went to on an LA visit gave me a cut that was soooo far from what I asked for and wanted. I made the mistake of mentioning I was in town for a visit, thus giving her no incentive for repeat business. I went to a nearby beauty supply store, bought a pair of haircutting scissors, and recut what I could.

Don't get me started on hairdressers!

Yep... All that "behind the scenes" stuff is sooo irritating and extremely unprofessional.  Unfortunately, it's obvious the contestants are watching the shows, and most likely some other footage, that the producers have shot throughout the week.  And, in the 'real world', most, if not all, of that gossip would have never been shared or leaked.  Yes, people do say things behind closed doors, but they stay there.  It truly is a small business.  And since the contestants also seem to be living in the same bubble seven days a week, 24-hours a day.... UGH!  I'm guessing NBC wants to bring out the more soap opera like elements of the process in order to gain and keep more viewers.  Sad, sad, sad.

And all the little cats and dogs that played the title characters in "Milo and Otis" -- I love that movie -- they are so cuuute!

and I love spider monkeys (I guess that's what those little monkeys are) in just about any thing -- have you seen the new commerical where the elephant goes to get things at the store for his sick master -- and right at the end you can see the little moneky in the corner pulling all the tissues out of the box -- cracks me up -- I think it's the same kind of monkey in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies...anyway those little monkeys always make me laugh

Your uncle wasn't Walter Strenge, was he?

No, my uncle was Eddie Fitzgerald. He also filmed Oh, Susanna!, which is why I remember it,  I believe one of the Lassie films (as opposed to the TV show), and Alfred Hitchcock's The Rope. Unfortunately, so much family history was lost. I was just a little girl and since the entire family worked in motion picutres and TV, so much was taken for granted. My cousin Marion, Eddie's step-daughter, is the only survivor from that era in the family, and she's forgotten a lot. Marion, BTW, was originally chosen to be the little girl in the Our Gang comedy, but Eddie wouldn't allow it. There was another little girl, about the same age, living down the street, whose father was absent. Eddie suggested they use her instead, because the family needed the money. They did. Don't ask me her name--I don't recall. I respect these stories as family history, but I also know that memories are imperfect and that there may be some discrepancies. Marion also threw out a lot of photos, which I will NEVER forgive her for! Now we're getting to Too Much Information.

Speaking of touch, I was at a little awards ceremony here in Prescott yesterday afternoon for the local Fine Arts Association scholarship competition -- Heather had won a couple of awards (2nd place in the classical voice, musical theatre, and drama competitions :D) and some scholarship money, so I went to be her cheerleader [end shameful allusion to today's notes].  Well, to make a long story short, in the program, they had each kid's name and next to it, one or two sentences either quoting them about their respective field of art or their college plans, etc.  Well, one of the kids who did a visual art piece had given an "inspiring" quote, that - thanks to the mindset you all put me in - I knew I had to come back and share.  So here goes:

"Art touches people in ways that words can't and my goal in life is to touch as many people as possible."

I had to stifle my laughter when I first noticed that right in the middle of one of the first place kid's performance... :D

Not at all Jeanne! I love this kind of info! I want to hear more about your family, what they did and what movies/shows they worked on!!! You have never mentioned all of this before!

I will try to put it in a nutshell. I grew up in Culver City, which isn't far from where BK and Jane and PennyO grew up. Virtually all the family worked in movies or TV at some point in their lives, but for most of them it was simply a way of earning a living. My uncle's position was the most notable--he was the only one to receive screen credit. My father didn't usually work directly on the shows, what he did was more support stuff. For instance, he wallpapered the sets for the Andy Hardy series with Mickey Rooney. I recall this because I watched the show as a very little girl and my dad would ALWAYS say, "I didn't get that seam straight" or something like that and I'd moan because I'd heard that sooo many times.

My dad worked at Desilu for many years (what was it before it was Desilu? I don't remember) and would sometimes get off work early. When I'd get home from school he'd sometimes ask me if I wanted to go over to the studio. I always said yes. Over the years I met Johnny Weismiller (sp?) on the Tarzan set, the Real McCoys, Batman and Robin and saw the Batmobile, saw the sets for The Greatest Story Ever Told, met Robert Stack and the Untouchables (a school chum was an enormous fan, so we arranged that for her). My dad also built the munchkin houses for the 1939 Wizard of Oz--but I wasn't around in 1939 to see them!

Once I reached high school, we'd often get tickets for the live Lucy show and Danny Thomas. I'd often bring my friends and we'd be part of the audience. (You had to be at least a certain age; they didn't want young children.) So that was partly my laugh you heard on those shows!

I've always felt a debt to Hollywood because it literally put food on our table. But I also grew up hearing stories of how cut-throat it was. Eddie was shooting some film from a helicopter when he and the camera fell. I recall visiting him in the nursing home--he survived, but it was a long recovery. That was just an accident, but it could be quite treacherous. As a result, I have a sort of love-hate relationship with Hollywood. I left acting because I had NO illusions whatsoever about the business, only to learn, sadly, that the rest of the world is often no different and no better.

But, DR Mike, I cannot tell you all my stories because then there'd be no mystery! I did try to tap both my dad and my other uncle for stories before their deaths, but so much had already been forgotten. I suppose I should write down what I recall before I get to the can't-remember-anything stage!

I also got a kick out of the orangutan that was in EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE.

I did too, that is until the time I was about 5 or 6 when my parents had a St. Patty's Day party out at a wildlife park where we lived in Central Texas -- that particular orangutan had "retired" there and made an appearance at the party, where I was set up for a trick where he pulled the chair out from under me (unbeknownst to me).  The shock and surprise, not to mention all of the adults laughing at me, pretty much ruined the night for me.  Had I known the set-up, I'd have played it for all it was worth, but I guess everyone thought that'd it'd be funnier to watch a little boy cry.

So yeah, thanks a lot Clyde the Orangutan, you've lost a friend and made a mortal enemy...

Der Brucer is grandladsitting today.

Last week, Magic Mommy told him that she "might" need him to ladsit for a half day.  Apparently, she then told the grandlads that he "was" going to ladsit, because they've been looking forward to it all week.

She's so considerate.

No matter that the lads' father is home today.  He's not feeling well, and can't be bothered taking care of them.

Yep, it's that kind of household.

I have no idea when der B will be getting back, and I don't get off work until six-thirty tonight.  I'm planning on walking home in the dark.

Bleh.

The good news is that the weather is great right now, warm and blue-skyed.

And I'd better get going.

We are seeing the final dress rehearsal of The Pirate Queen this evening. Anthony knows one of the costume people. I haven't been to a gypsy run in years. The reviews for the show in Chicago were, shall we say, not good, but it will still be fun to go. We will be sitting in the orchestra of the Hilton Theatre (FKA Ford Center for the Performing Arts, FFKA a combination of the Apollo and Lyric Theatres) spanning 42nd and 43rd Streets just west of 7th Avenue. The seats are not reserved (being a gypsy run and all) but we won't sit in back of any tall people (if we can help it).

I'll report tomorrow.

FYI, the Pirate Queen is the new musical by the folks who created Les Miz and the folks who created Riverdance. Pray for Rosemary's Baby.

So many animal actors to choose from, often my favorite is the cutie I’m currently watching.  Cats, dogs and horses are my favorites.   What wasn’t to love about Homeward Bound, 2 dogs & a cat.

We just watched a couple of Thin Man films & Asta truly holds his own amongst such great talent.  Other favorite dogs are Hooch & Rin Tin Tin.    I was a big fan of Fury.  The cat on The Closer is pretty even if “he” doesn’t do anything.

The Cheetah in Duma is wonderful.

Because of a late lunch and going to the hospital, I had time to view only one show this afternoon - last night's COLD CASE, an interesting story of a girl who was killed right after giving birth out of wedlock. Some interesting suspects among the cast. Bruce Boxleitner (who still looks very good) played the father of the child (now grown up) born out of wedlock.

My very favorite animal performer was a basset hound named Bernadette.  Bernadette portrayed "Cleo" (short for Cleopatra") on "The People's Choice" with Jackie Cooper.

Cleo was "voiced" by one Miss Mary Jane Croft.

Never was there a more droll animal character on Television.  Not even Mr. Ed or Arnold the Pig!

"Now and then I get the urge to ride the range."

DR JEanne:  re Desilu

From Wikipedia:

The company was formed in 1951. For the first few years of I Love Lucy, Desilu rented space at General Service Studios (what is now the Hollywood Center Studios), on Santa Monica Boulevard and Las Palmas Avenue in the Hollywood section of the City of Los Angeles. Desilu soon outgrew their first space and in 1953 bought their own studio: the Motion Picture Center on Cahuenga Boulevard in Hollywood, at the site of what is now the Ren-Mar rental studio; most of I Love Lucy was filmed there. In late 1957 (taking possession in 1958), the company also bought the RKO Pictures properties, including its main lot in Culver City, with the backlot known as Forty Acres, and another lot on Gower Street in Hollywood.

Don't get me started on hairdressers!

Not to get you started on hairdressers, but I LOVE mine! I had the same guy for 20 some years, back when I had waist length hair, he was the one who cut it short and I never wanted to change.

He owned a very expensive salon where I would never be able to afford to go had we not been friends. He gave me a "documentary maker" rate. He didn't like working for his rich clients, though, and listening to their political tirades. He said that if Bush was reelected, he was leaving the country.

Now he's retired to Argentina. The guy who bought his shop was a young Romanian guy, but he gives me great haircuts, even better than my friend who left. Last time I went, after the new hairdresser cut it, I thought the bangs were too long. He was very hesitant but went ahead and trimmed them. I was totally wrong and now they are way too short and not worthy of Jose. I hope he won't be ashamed to be seen with me!

Hi JRand.... it is really odd how it often happens that someone you mention, turns out to be someone I had an association with in the past.

In the mid 1960s I was fortunate to be asked to substitute on General Hospital when the regular MD took a vacation.  Some of the cast were very stuck on themselves, but several of the cast members were very nice to a young musician like me.  One of them was Patricia Breslin, who played Meg Baldwin (wife of one of the main characters Peter Baldwin).  Patricia was always very open and friendly;  the other really great character actress on the show was Lucille Wall and I really adored her!.  She would invite me to take the 30 minute break between dress and final taping in her dressing room.  She always had cookies and goodies to share, we'd have coffee or a soft drink, and she would tell me about the much earlier days of radio drama that she had starred in.

One of my fondest working memories of my pro days.....and I liked Ms. Wall so much that I even named my first '56 Thunderbird "Lucille" in her honor.

Glad to hear that she AND Patricia were so nice.  Last time I saw Patricia, she was on some cable show about stars' homes.  She had purchased and was living in the home that Charlie Chaplin had given to Lita Grey as part of their divorce settlement.  She still looked great.

I had a fun start to the day. I had a nail in my tire, so we jumped off the battery of my 17 year old Corolla but I couldn't keep it running. So my DH leant me his car and took mine to have the tire fixed. When they did, they also found a huge shard of wood impaling the tire.  (Last year a logging truck dropped a tree in front of me on a very rainy night after a long edit until 2AM. A semi almost hit me as it tried to avoid the tree and the tree destroyed two of my wheels.)

Later today my DH drove into Atlanta and swapped cars so I wouldn't have to drive his Trooper home in the dark. He handed me the shard of wood from my tire. It brought back some creepy memories.

Our local PBS station has a fun documentary tonight--a review of a number of local children's television hosts from the 50s and 60s.  A lot of my childhood favorites will be included--Sally Starr, Pixanne (who I had a crush on), Gene London, Chief Half Town, Ranger Rex and Captain Noah (who I always made fun of but turned out to be one of the nicest men I ever met.)

The show is part of the local station's pledge drive and this show will be repeated a number of times this week, so I can afford to miss it tonight (since it runs against HEROES.)  But I will Tivo it at some point and enjoy it then.

I had a touch of something ugly, but I was still able to do things around the house.  I had to ensure I left nothing in harms' way, though, 'cause when I had to go, I HAD to go!

What do you mean "Ew!" ?  A factual bit of trivia -- DR MBarnum likes hot dogs in the evening -- so the resident psychomeatrist was only asking as clarification about which he loves more -- hugs or hot dogs...most innocent .....

( ;))

Since he doesn't like them in the morning, I guess there aren't many sleepovers.

Now THAT's an "Ewwwww!"

Jose, George, Dan (the Man), Jrand, Miss Karen & Ed, thank you for the good vibes.  So far our news isn’t bad, which is good news for now.

The problem has never been with Sherlock’s paw.  It seems to be someplace on his leg, probably the left leg.  We still aren’t sure.

While the vet couldn’t find the location of the possible strain, it doesn’t appear to be a growth related problem (our big fear) which is fairly common in large puppies.  At 7 months and 87 pounds he is definitely a large puppy. The examination didn’t hurt him at all & he thought it was fun when we went outside to walk & run him while the doctor watched.  He enjoys his visits there & playtime with our vet’s pug.

For now we still have to wait and see, which means no hikes for the next week.  We can still walk him around town on a leash.

Der Grampa is with the grandlads right now.  I think he has taken them to see Bridge to Terabithia, and won't be back until late.

This means I get to scrounge dinner for myself.

I'm thinking eggs and sausage.

I'm thinking Toad in a Hole.

(I'm thinking I'll have enough for myself and to share with the doggies!)

Edi-So sad.  When my mother was dying we were in the middle of moving from Massachusetts to Pennsylvania.  Keith had a new job & the boys were very young.  I only managed two visits to her, one without the boys.  Shortly after we moved she passed away, the same week our 15 year old babysitter in Massachusetts died.  Keith had to stay home with the pets & his new job.  We never even considered him going home with me.  Needless to say this was a very difficult time for all of us.

A few months later Keith went to L.A. on business and went to the cemetery.  I had no idea he was planning to do so.  The thought still brings tears to my eyes.

He is too strong for that, he just drags me along with him.  At least my arm stays in the socket that way. ;D

Yesterday we began using a pronged collar.  They look barbaric but are the safest collar for a dog that pulls that I know of.  And he doesn't mind it nearly as much as the gentle leader (halti-collar style) I was using.

 :(

ENVY, ENVY, ENVY.

Of course, DR Cillaliz may have a different opinion.

If you tell them they are all guilty, it normally doesn't keep you off the jury after the "can you be fair" questions. If on the other hand you have a personal or religious conviction against judging other people and couldn't find anyone guilty...I bet you'll be off the jury

I didn't work today. I had planned to take the day off, but I really wasn't feeling well. I'm not sure if I picked up a cold on my trip or if it's all related to last night.  I was driving home and went a block away from a house fire where the fire trucks were just arriving. I slowed down and rolled my car window down to see and this awful acrid smoke filled the car. I immediately had a sore throat that got worse over night.  I'm feeling a bit better now

And, Paul had a conversation last night with the Immigration lawyer in town who is retiring.  He wanted me to call so I did and stopped by. I guess they just brought in a young lawyer to do immigration, but I didn't even know he was here, so he isn't making the rounds to let people who have the ability to give you lots of referals that you are out there.  Anyway, the retiring lawyer suggested I office share there.   I don't think so. There are 2 male lawyers, one 70 and one young - who is going to be doing all the same areas of the law I am and a secretary I had no input in hiring.  If I wanted that situation,  I wouldn't leave.

Productive days and evenings like today remind me that i really do enjoy tax work, at least when it comes to the corporate and business returns.  I find it very satisfying somehow, as long as all the information is there.  The part i hate is having to hunt down information, i guess.  All seven returns I did today had all the info laid out for me; there were some real complexities, but it was like playing a game, fitting pieces of a puzzle together.  I almost feel guilty taking the money for doing this when it's so much fun - almost, anyway!  :)

Well, I thought I had checked the MTA website before I left the apartment, but I guess something happened after I left...

The D Train was doing its thing along the express track, then once we got to 72nd Street it stopped.... Then it moved ahead a couple feet and stopped again... Then ahead a little... Stop.  For about five minutes!  Then it moved a little more... Stop...  -And we were literally just feet away from the Columbus Circle platform - I was in the front train and could see all the signal lights... Which were all red... And then came the announcement that due to an incident at 50th Street, all A/B/C/D trains were being shifted over to 6th Ave. after Columbus Circle...  So, they were literally shuffling trains back and forth for about ten more minutes before we pulled into the station proper.  Luckily, I was able to transfer over to the 1 train to get to Times Square.  -Normally, I would have walked down from Columbus Circle, but since the train was delayed, and it's so friggin' cold(!!!!) outside, opted to stay underground for as long as possible.

In any case...

Avenue Q still makes me laugh, cry, giggle and smile.  Sometimes all at once.  The show is in very good shape.  It's been a while since I've seen the show, and it was neat picking up some of the tweaks they've done since they opened.  -Most of them are as a result of the Vegas production.  An old and dear friend of mine, Jen (I introduced her to her husband years ago - and they now have three kids!), came with me, and she hadn't seen the show yet, so it was neat having a fresh pair of eyes and ears sitting next to me.  She loved it too.

And in honor of the 1500th show, they gave out cupcakes after the show - yellow cake, chocolate frosting, with an orange Q on top.  :)

After the show, I joined former DR Jason for a post-show dinner at Ollie's...  And sitting at the table behind us were, apparently, the next big boy band/brother act... They had just been "discovered" in their hometown, and they were brought to NYC to record a single.  Of course, their combined ages was probably less than 40... or even less than 35, so... We shall see.

DR SWW - I'd be interested in hearing DerBrucer's and the grandlads thoughts on "Bridge To Terabithia".  I loved that book as a grade-schooler, and from the commercials I've been seeing it looks like they may have overdone and overblown the quite small (and tragic) story.  I shall hope for the best.

Well, if tomorrow's first rehearsal ends up being short - and I have a sneaking suspicion it will be - I should have time to get everything in the mail to those I need to mail things off to in the afternoon.  If not, then most definitely next Monday.  However, depending how full my carry-on, I may be able to take the envelopes with me down to Atlanta and mail them from there.  So, my apologies in advance for the delay in the delivery of any Sparkling Prizes and such.

And, actually, I think I'm still owed a Sparkling Prize myself for answering a "North By Northwest" related question a couple of months back.  Alas, I don't think I forwarded my current address to the person sending out the prize.  Hmm...

The pancakes at The Cafe Edison were very good.  What I can't believe about that place is they get you your food faster than I could cook it.  I don't know how they do that. It's almost scary

Yes, sometimes the service there is spookily quick.  It's almost as if they were telepathic... Or the waiters "make" you order what you end up ordering.  But, hey, I don't think I've ever had an undercooked meal there ever.

...a hairdresser I went to on an LA visit gave me a cut that was soooo far from what I asked for and wanted. I made the mistake of mentioning I was in town for a visit, thus giving her no incentive for repeat business.

Her?? What is it about decent hairdressing you do not understand?

.... UGH!  I'm guessing NBC wants to bring out the more soap opera like elements of the process in order to gain and keep more viewers.  Sad, sad, sad.

Indeed! We want a Sandy and Danny we can like - not some alleycat ruffians. I bet Ians knows that.

The ability to find a good chortle in the Staten Island Phone Directory is a precious talent - enjoy it!
